Joey does what he loves and that is finding cars doing repairs and

Joey said, "There is no way you will get $15,000 for this car. Now, I
have $9,000 cash in my pocket which I can give you right now."
The man thought about it for a moment and said, "I will take $9,000 and
you said you have cash."
Joey counted out $9,000 and Robert transferred the title to Joey's name.
Joey got on the phone and on the 3d ring, his shop manager answered.
Joey said, "Rolly, bring the flatbed I have a great project car."
He gave Rolly instructions and Rolly told him he will be there in a few
minutes.
In 15 minutes there was his shop manager with the car carrying flatbed
truck.
Rolly said, "Let me look at this car."
Rolly walked around the car slowly inspecting it and was impressed
saying, "Damn what a car a 1959 Chevy Biscayne. Wow still has the 348 in
it that was a good engine. How much did you pay?"
Joey said, "$9,000."
Rolly looked at Robert and Joey and said, "Well, both of you got a good
deal."
Rolly raised the bed and reeled out the cable and hooked up the car.
After loading the truck Joey said, "I will meet you at the shop."
Rolly said, "Sure."
Joey got to the shop in time to see Rolly unloading the car.
After unloading the car in the shop Joey said, "Let's see if this car
turns over."
First, they turned the fan and the saw the car turned over and then Joey
climbed into the driver's seat and put the key in the ignition and hit
start.
As he was doing it he saw the car was definitely turning over and he
stopped.
He got out and he and Rolly gave a high 5 to each other.
Joey said, "I would love to stay out here and help you but I have
business to tend to."
After he walked into his office his assistant who was 5'5" weighed about
115 to maybe 120 lbs and was red-headed poked her head into his office
and said, "Mr. Reynolds there is a lady who is looking for a classic
car."
Joey said, "Oh thank you, Ms. Jacobs, tell her I will be there in a
moment."
Joey closed one of his binders and walks out and saw a beautiful lady
with shoulder length blonde hair blue eyes and she was wearing a skirt
that came down to just above her knees and a matching blouse.
He said, "Hi, I am Joey Reynolds and I understand you are looking for a
car."
She smiled and said, "My name is Linda Thomas and I am looking for a
1963 Lincoln Continental."
Joey said, "Really, I have to say you have good taste and we do have a
1963 Lincoln it is black and it is beautiful if I must say so myself."
He walked over to the Lincoln that was in the showroom and opened the
front driver's side door and also the suicide door on the driver's side.
He went to the front of the car and opened the hood and said, "That is
number's matching 430 and I believe it had 350 hp. You can check all of
the date codes on this car."
She smiled and said, "Another dealership was so condescending to me."
He laughed and said, "I never look at a woman presuming she knows
nothing about a car especially if that can get me a loyal customer."
She said, "I love your philosophy so how much are you asking for this
car?"
Joey said, "I am asking $65,000 I know high but not many were built in
1963 total production was 31,255 and there are only about 100 that are
in this condition. Everything functions the way it should the power
windows the power door locks and the power mirrors and also the power
seats. The air conditioner and heater functions almost perfect. Why
don't you test drive this car?"
Joey pulled the car out of the showroom and then he went from the
driver's seat to the passenger seat.
He said, "Why don't you take the driver's seat?"
Linda slid into the driver's seat and Joey got out and kneeled beside
the driver's seat.
He said, "The seat controls are beside the seat and it all adjusts
electrically."
She moved the seat about an inch to an inch and a half and she saw she
was comfortable.
She said, "I know this is crazy but is this car running?" \
He said, "Yes, this motor runs so silky smooth you don't hear it. I have
occasionally hit the ignition when it is running so I will check the
position of the ignition."
She put the car into drive and slowly wheeled the car to the road and
saw it was clear and pulled into the street.
He said, "You can turn left at the intersection and pull to the
freeway."
As they were heading to the freeway Joey asked, "Just out of curiosity
what do you do?"
Linda laughed and said, "I am in upscale real estate and I have done
well in that. In fact, I sold that 11 room home on the west side of town
for $1.5 million. "
Joey said, "Well, that definitely keeps the wolf from the door."
Linda laughed and said, "I have to say that is a unique way of looking
at it."
Joey said, "Thanks."
As they got on the interstate the car easily and smoothly hit 65 mph and
it maintained that speed quietly and easily.
Linda said, "I am so impressed with this car I am not used to a car
quite like this. The newer cars their ride and their quietness is
artificial like but this car is real. It rides like it is on a pillow."
Joey said, "Ya that is pretty much how the old Cadillacs and Lincolns
ride."
Linda said, "You are so right and I think I will love this car we just
need to negotiate a good price."
Joey said, "Sure, are you ready to go back to the dealership?"
She pulled in front of the dealership and he held the door open for her
and he followed her to his desk.
He said, "You have seen the car and you have driven it and what do you
think?"
Linda said, "I love it and first I won't be financing it and will you
take a cashier check?"
Joey said, "Sure. not financing it that is great."
Linda said, "$65,000 is a little above my budget how about $55,000."
Joey said, "Wow, that is a cut in $10,000 what is the highest offer you
can afford?"
Linda said, "$58,000 I can do."
Joey said, "Can you raise that $500?"
Linda said, "I can do $58,500."
Joey said, "Great let's do that and let me get the title and we can
close this."
They stood up and shook hands and Joey went to his office and found the
title.
He signed the title over Linda and handed it to the notary he had.
Joey said, "We do have a wonderful service department."
Linda said, "Wonderful."
Linda walked out and Joey watched her get in the car and drive off.
He looked at Lisa Jacobs and said, "There is nothing better than another
satisfied customer and we just made an $18,500 profit today."
Lisa said, "Wonderful will ever show me the ropes on buying and selling
these cars."
Joey said, "Sure, as for buying Ms. Jacobs I will remember to take you
with me for lunch because often times I find a car while out for lunch."
Lisa said, "That would be so great."
Joey said, "Believe me, any way you can help this dealership make money
makes you a valuable asset. As a valuable asset, you will be compensated
accordingly. How are is it going between you and your fiancee?"
Lisa said,' Wonderful, we should be getting married in about 3 months
and poor Henry is such a nervous wreck."
Joey laughed and said, "Understandable, but he is a good man and is very
lucky to have you."
As Lisa walked back to her workstation he shook his head at how far she
has come in the last 3 years and how nervous she was the 10 months
working here. Now, he looks at her and her quiet confidence she has,
Joey walks out and went to look at the Biscayne and Rolly walked over.
He said, "Wow, this car is in good shape and here I have a surprise."
He walked over and hit the ignition and the car started up.
The engine ran a little rough and had a little bit of a leak.
Joey said, "Wow, other than just running on 6 cylinders and that exhaust
leak that car sounds great."
Rolly said, "It only took an hour of work now we are just stripping the
body and interior down."
Joey said,' This will be a great car and I think that light blue with
white in between the trim will look so good."
Rolly said, "You are right and did I hear correctly that you are taking
Lisa with you to train her to buy and sell cars?"
Joey said, "Ya, she is so good up front."
Rolly laughed and asked, "So what will you do if she outsells you?"
Joey said, "Come back here with you guys and work on these cars and no
Rolly your job will be safe you keep these things in shape back here."
Rolly laughed and said, "That is funny."
Joey said, "Why not I hope her future husband won't mind."
Rolly laughed and said, "I do have to say Lisa sure has come a long way
since you first hired her."
Joey said, "Oh yes she has and I do love her around here."
Rolly said, "Remember those really short mini skirts she used to wear
how she had all of that makeup plastered on her?"
Joey said, "Ya, now she dresses and now she is dressed and her
appearance is as classy as she really is.'
Rolly said, "Oh ya I am impressed."
Lisa walked in and says, "Mr. Reynolds you were missing."
Joey laughed and said, "Fantasizing about you outselling me and I am
able to come back here and do what I love to do."
Lisa laughed and said, "You silly but for now you will have to stay up
front."
Rolly laughed and said, "Never thought your assistant would keep you
straight."
Joey laughed and said,"She is definitely management material."
As they walked back out front Lisa asked, "Did you mean that?"
Joey said, "Yes why not you listen to me and you have as much potential
as that Biscayne in that shop. You just aren't as rough as that car is,'
Lisa said, "I never thought I would take that as a compliment but coming
from you it is beautiful."
Lisa was about to walk away but she turned and said, "Oh, there is that
man coming in with a car restoration."
Joey said, "Oh my goodness, I forgot that is Robert Sanders he is
bringing that Buick Roadmaster."
As soon as he said that a truck with car hauler pulled up front and Joey
walked out and Robert was opening and lowering the door on the back of
the trailer.
As he walked out he said, "Mr. Sanders how do you do?"
Robert said, "I am doing well I am bringing my car today."
Joey said, "Bring it out I love those 1950 Buicks."
He rolled it out and there was the Buick Roadmaster the paint was faded
and peeling and Joey examined the car closely.
He whistled and said, "That is quite a car to start with.'
Robert said, "Really, I thought this car was kind of rough."
Joey said, "I have to have it media blasted but it looks like it doesn't
have any cancer eating through the body. If that is the case that means
less time has to be spent on the body."
He lifted the hood and saw the engine and the serial number on the
fender.
He said, "263 cubic inch motor and it looks like the stock motor and
unless it has a cracked block we should be able to rebuild the motor. It
only puts out about 150 bhp but this car was a cruiser, not a racer.'
Robert said, "I am glad you are impressed now how much?"
Joey said, "That depends on what kind of restoration you want. Do you
want a frame off rotisserie type restoration?"
Robert asked, "What is the rotisserie type restoration."
Joey said, "That would be the body off of the frame and the body would
be on a rotisserie. When it gets done it would be show quality."
Robert asked, "How much would the frame off rotisserie type
restoration?"
Joey said, "$50,000 and we would need 2 months."
Robert said, "That would be great I want the rotisserie type
restoration."
Joey said, "You will be happy with the quality work."
Robert said, "I am glad."
They rolled in the car into the shop and Rollie walked up.
Rollie whistled and said, "1950 Buick Roadmaster there is a car with a
lot of style."
Robert said, "I am glad you approve."
Rollie said, "I rode in one Roadmaster when I was in high school and it
left one hell of an impression it was a 1952 model."
After Robert left Rolly asked, "Is this the schedule restoration?"
Joey said, "Yes, he wants this car rotisserie restored."
Rolly asked, "How much and how long did he give us?"
Joey said,"$50,000 and 2 months."
He said, "Nice and what color are you thinking?"
Joey said, "You know this car has white interior I am thinking teal
blue. They came out of the factory in that color combination at least a
few of them have."
Rolly said, "That will look good and if not then can make the interior
teal blue also."
Joey said, "You know we can do the seats and headliner in a light grey
and the dash in a teal blue."
Rolly said, "That would look good and are you sure that won't raise the
price?"
Joey said, "I don't think so if you take the seats and headliner and
panels out and take it to them tomorrow or in 2 or 3 days max."
Rolly said, "OK we can do that."
Joey said, "Great I am glad to hear that."
Rolly said, "Remember starting this business in that barely 1000 square
foot building you rented?"
Joey laughed and said, "Oh ya and wondering if this business would go
anywhere."
Rolly said, "Well, this business has gone a long way."
Joey went to his office and worked on his quarterly reports to hand to
his accountant to proofread and noticed it was time to close up shop.
He looked at Lisa and said, "I am surprised you are still here it is
almost 6 go on home and keep getting ready for your wedding I really
want to see you get married to Henry."
She smiled and said, "What about you?"
Joey asked, "What about me?"
Lisa asked, "Are you ever going to get married?"
Joey thought about it and said, "I guess so, I guess when I meet the
right woman."
As she left Joey shook his head at her concern as she left in her 1965
Mustang.
He locked up the dealership for the close of another business day and
then Joey walked over to his convertible 1970 Ford LTD and put the key
into the ignition and it quietly started and he put it in reverse.
He drove home thinking about today and how far his business has gone. He
would meet the right woman though the right woman was transgender and
she bought the 1963 Lincoln Continental.
