Nia Nal Dox was sitting on the couch in her living room, next to her
husband Querl Dox. With names like those, it was obviously they were not
born of Earth. This was true-Nia was born of a Naltorian mother and a
human father. She was also a transwoman, having transitioned soon after
her eighteenth birthday. Querl was also alien in nature, having been
born on the planet Colu, a world of living computers. He had blue skin
and was considered to be the most intelligent being in the galaxy, albeit
of the thirty first century. Querl was from the future, and was a member
of a group called the Legion of Super Heroes, in which he was known as
Brainiac 5. He really didn't like this, since it brought to mind some of
his more vicious ancestors, especially the being known as Brainiac (1).
He was the monster who had roamed the galaxy stealing and shrinking
cities, one from each world, and imprisoning them in glass bottles.
Superman and Supergirl had finally freed the Kryptonian city Kandor and
succeeding in enlarging it to normal size. It's people were thriving on
a red sun planet they named Rokyn, and were busy building a new world.
They were safe, the planet only appeared in normal space for a day every
ten years.
Nia was also super-powered, being the daughter of a Naltorian Seeress,
and being the one chosen from her generation to carry on the family
power. Her sister had expected to be the one with the power to tell the
future, since Nura had been male at the time, but somehow, transition had
allowed the power to manifest itself in her. To say her sister was
disappointed was an understatement. She had developed more powers since
then, including energy whips and the ability to create a shield around
herself. She and Querl had met while working with Supergirl on several
cases, had fallen in love, and had recently gotten married. Her sister
was maid of honor, while Supergirl and Alex Danvers were bridesmaids.
This is what set up Nia's quandry. Brainy had told her-and others-that
Nia was destined to be the ancestress of another member of the LSH in the
future, Dream Girl (Nura Nal). Nia wondered just how that was going to
happen, given that she was unable to become pregnant or give birth.
Nia may not have known how it was going to happen, but her husband Querl
certainly did. While much of the intervening years between the current
era and the far future was hidden to to various catastrophes, Querl did
know the future history of Nia Nal. And it was up to him to make it
happen. The key was that even though Nia was legally and outwardly a
female, she was still genetically XY, meaning that there were certain
chemicals that could work on her. And Brainy had a sample of one. It
had been used before by the legion and in an alternate timeline involving
Superman, when he had been transformed into Super-Sister as a youth. In
that alternate universe the transformation had been real, and permanent.
They had used the aforementioned drug to fool the townspeople into
believing that both Clark and Claire-and their super identities-were two
separate people. It was called Grandian Gender Reversal Serum. And it
could only work on a single individual once, and for a short period of
time. Nia needed to be totally female for almost a year, in order to
conceive, carry a child to term, and give birth. That was Brainy's
dilemma. However, as the only twelfth level intelligence in this time
period (and most others), he was sure he could create a variation of the
serum that would last on his bride for the required amount of time,
allowing her to have a baby and keep the timeline intact.
Querl had learned a lot about human emotions since being stranded in the
twenty first century with his teammates a while ago. Much of this
knowledge came from his lovely wife Nia, who was one of the most feminine
women he had ever known. Extremely pretty, too. She had long dark hair
and eyes, and a figure that made any straight male's eyes pop out of his
head. She also had a mysterious aura about her that added to her
attractiveness, from her alien heritage. Querl considered himself
extremely fortunate to be married to this goddess, and also that he would
be the ancestor of Nura, his friend in the thirty first century. All he
had to do was create the serum and have Nia take it, and then matters
would take their normal course. He and Nia had an extremely satisfying
sex life, and they engaged in intimacy often, to Querl's surprise. Prior
to meeting Nia, he had felt that intimacy was primarily and in fact ONLY
for reproduction. He had changed that opinion, especially since Nia was
currently incapable of becoming pregnant.
Querl and Nia shared a rather pricy home in the suburbs of National City,
in an area favored by many emigrants from other worlds. A few years
earlier during the Dark Times, this would have been dangerous, but with
the demise of Lex Luthor and the other specisist forces (including the
President), most aliens had come back into the limelight. Most of the
ones with various powers had resumed their protection and aid to their
adopted planet. Only a few of the more powerful ones had continued their
hatred of humans for what had occurred, and refused to aid them in any
way-they just lived their lives quietly and with as little interaction
with humans as possible. What was important to Querl was that it had
both a large basement and a large outbuilding in their back yard. He had
two labs set up, both of them quite well equipped. There was also an
elaborate thirty first century security system set up to protect them.
No one but him, Nia, Kara Zor-El (Supergirl), Alex Danvers (Head of the
DEO) and Jonn Jonzz (Martian Manhunter and former head of the DEO) were
allowed in, and only if he was present. If Mon-El or Winn Schott ever
visited from the future they would be on the short list too. No one
else. Querl went out to the backyard lab and got to work.
He started by analyzing a sample of the solution to break it into it's
component parts. The active ingredients that actually caused the change
were simple to duplicate, what was the problem was the secondary
chemicals that controlled the length of the transition. Many of the
elements involved didn't even exist on Earth, and in fact, one was only
found on Grandia, where it was extremely rare and expensive. And of
course, that was the one that controlled the time factor. The amount of
the chemical in the mix was what determined how long the effects would
last. Querl needed a large amount of the drug, and a lot of money to pay
for it. That part was simplicity itself. While he was in no way a mind
reader, he could calculate odds in an instant, and he had a phenomonal
memory which could be used to count cards in a game of chance of some
sort. While that was technically illegal, there was no possible way
anyone would detect his use of his prodigious mind in time to stop him
from amassing the fortune needed. He could then convert it into
universal credits (assuming he could borrow Jonn's or Kara's ship), fly
to Grandia and buy what he needed. At least that was the plan.
National City wasn't too far from the state of Nevada with its large
legalized gambling industry. He donned his human disguise device and
took a bus to the city of Las Vegas, the largest center. Just for
amusement, he decided to make his killing in a casino with the name of,
and owned by a former president, who had become famous for his xenophobic
feelings and other negative situations that made him one of the most
hated presidents ever among well over half of the population. Of course,
many people felt he was the best president ever and would have saved the
country (from what?) had he been elected to a second term. The rest of
the country breathed a sigh of relief when he was soundly defeated, along
with much of the rest of his party. Up to the entrance Brainy went with
a few hundred American dollars and prepared to make the necessary cash
for his project. He calculated that he would need several million
American dollars for fuel and to exchange at the galactic bank-which he
knew existed in this time period, and was almost as efficient as it would
be in a thousand years. After all, it had already been serving
spacefaring races in the galaxy for well over ten thousand earth years
already.
Brainy sat down at a high stakes Blackjack table, with minimum bets of
200 dollars. There were five decks in the dealers shoe in order to make
counting cards more difficult. For a normal human, it would be. For
Brainy, it was a simple exercise. He decided that he would spend his
time making money at blackjack, poker, and eventually venturing into the
rarified world of Chemin de Fer. You needed a stake of at least a
thousand dollars to enter that area, and many of the gamblers there had
brought much more than that. There were arab sheiks, cartel members,
tech billionaires and other members of the fabulously wealthy. Brainy
planned on getting in there and doing his best to clean out the house
before he was finished. All he had to do was keep from getting caught.
He began his slow but steady assault on the blackjack tables, making bets
of $200 at a time, the table minimum. He won almost nine out of ten
hands, losing once in a while to keep up appearances. His winning
attracted the attention of the pit boss, who alerted security. A
security agent wandered up to the table, next to Brainy and unobtrusively
scanned him for any electronic signal devices. His image machine
however, didnt register on twenty first century devices, so the agent,
and others watching over closed circuit television, closely observed him
for any of the signs of illegal card counting. They found none. They
could only conclude that Querl was extraordinarily lucky on this, his
first night. They continued to observe him.
When he had taken the house for almost thirty thousand dollars, he left
and wandered over to the poker tables, where he was evenly (sort of)
matched against other players, rather than the house itself. He was
skilled at reading facial expressions, and used his knowledge to good
advantage. He easily knew when to fold, when to raise, when to call, and
when to draw based on his opponent's facial expressions. Since he was
again at a high stakes table, he took his opponents for almost another
forty thousand dollars. Since he now had a bankroll of almost seventy
thousand, he welked to the rope and guard at the entrance to the CDF
room. He showed the guard his card, which was scanned, showing he had
the requisite assets. He entered, prepared to finish what he came to do.
With bets of five to ten thousand or more, Brainy felt he could reach his
goal in a matter of hours. He was right. After a few wins, with bets of
ten to thirty thousand dollars each, his pile of chips began to grow, and
he started to cash them out and have them placed in an account with the
casino. By the end of his first night, he had accumulated almost five
million dollars, all of it under close scrutiny from house security.
They knew he was cheating somehow, but couldn't discover exactly how. In
reality, it was merely his lightning fast calculating ability, and his
advanced knowledge of probability. He decided to wait a while, and go to
other gambling houses, with a different holographic disguise each time to
avoid suspicion. It worked. After a month, he had banked almost one
hundred million dollars, with most of it transferred to a caribbean bank
on an island known for its secrecy laws. It was time to put phase two
into action.
Kal-El (Superman) had taken his capsule to Argo City with his wife, Lois
in order for her to safely carry and deliver their child, so that capsule
was out of play for a long time. Kal evidently planned on staying on
Argo, though Lois might get homesick for a visit to earth. Querl
couldn't count on that. That left Kara's capsule and Jonn's
shapeshifting vehicle, both of which were capable of star travel. He
decided to ask Kara for the loan of her's, since Nia was one of her
closest friends.
He was in luck. When Kara heard of his plans, she enthusiastically
agreed to help. He told Nia of his plans, which she agreed to, and when
everything was ready, Brainy took off, with several tens of millions in
cash, and several more encrypted on a terran flash drive. The galactic
bank would honor both of those, he knew. Subject to a ten percent
monetary exchange fee-they had to make a profit somehow. That was it.
He got to the asteroid where the bank was located, produced sufficient
identification for the guards and the Green Lantern Corps member on duty,
and proceeded to change his earth dollars into their Grandian
counterparts. He wound up with almost twelve million of their units.
After refueling, he then proceeded to set course for Grandia. This was
the easiest part.
He made his way to one of the pharmaceutical firms licensed to make the
drug, and inquired as to the amount of the active ingredient available
for sale. He found that they had enough in stock for him to make up a
batch that would transform Nia into a genetically XX female for a period
of eighteen months, enough time for them to conceive a child, bring it to
full term and deliver it. With enough time for Nia to breastfeed their
child for almost nine months also. Querl also found that he had enough
funds to do exactly that.
Querl made his purchase and loaded it into his capsule. Upon again
refueling, he entered it and took off for his new home planet of Earth.
He sent a signal ahead to Kara and the DEO that he was on the way, and
that he was not piloting a hostile vessel-identification required for any
alien vessel to enter the planetary atmosphere. He landed, unloaded his
cargo, and the capsule to his good friend Kara Zor-El. Who had also
experienced a several month long gender transformation as a result of
exposure to Pink Kryptonite. As had her cousin Kal-El. Tricky stuff,
that Pink K. Good thing it would only work once on any given Kryptonian,
and everyone else was immune.
After properly greeting his wife, and spending some time alone together,
Querl retired to his lab and mixed the batch of GGRS (Grandian Gender
Reversal Serum), properly dosed to transform for the desired length of
time. Nia wished she could have enough for a lifetime transformation,
but this would have to do. She would also have the ultimate female
experience, that of pregnancy and childbirth. Of course, after the
delivery, her body would revert to its normal female pre-pregnancy state,
and for the remainder of her transformation, she would experience the
usual monthly female cycle. Another experience she had never expected to
have. She was looking forward to the entire thing.
Querl offered her the vial of serum, which she eagerly drank down.
Immediately her body began to change,though not as much as one would
think. Her hair was already long, so it merely increased in length, down
to her hips. She already had breasts and curves, plus a vagina. What
she developed was internal female reproductive organs. In short, Nia Nal
Dox was now a completely functional and genetic female. Meaning she
could conceive a child and become the ancestor to Nura Nal, Dream Girl of
the thirty first century. She and her husband lost no time in ensuring
that it actually occurred.
The two spent as much time alone as their duties with the DEO and their
group, the Superfriends allowed. Besides the two of them, the group
consisted of Jonn, Kara and a reformed Psyche, who had the power to
induce powerful emotions in her victims. She had been a criminal, but
now had been paroled to Kara and was using her powers for good, and was
fast on the way towards receiving a complete pardon. However, it soon
became obvious that Nia would have to take a leave of absence from the
group, and eventually went on leave from the DEO also. Nia was very
pregnant.
The DEO had some of the best doctors in the world on call, all of them
experienced in xenomedicine. In addition, Alex Danvers was a fully
trained and licensed Physician. All of them were extremely interested in
keeping their friend healthy. Nia saw one or another of them every week
without fail, while Brainy kept track of the amound of GGRS in her
system. It would be a disaster if it wore off while she was still
pregnant. No chance of that-he had given her plenty in order for her to
complete the process.
After nine months, which Nia thoroughly enjoyed (since she got to be a
complete female), the big day came. Nia felt contractions, and all of a
sudden, she felt a dampness on her clothing. Her water had broken.
Getting to the DEO hospital was no problem, with friends possessing the
power of super speed. Kara happened to be closest, so she swooped in,
carefully scooped up her frend and at a sane rate of speed transported
her to the medical wing under the mountain. Alex happened to be on duty
that day (as director, she was most days) so she scrubbed in after
turning operations over to her deputy. She prepared to deliver her first
baby since her residency days. Brainy arrived via a grav speeder a few
minutes later, prepared to be the nervous father in the delivery room.
Kara waited outside for news, while keeping an eye on the world
monitoring satellite feeds for anything that she would be needed
for.Naltorian family descent was determined through the female line, as
were any children's surnames. This meant that Querl and Nia's baby would
be named Nal, not Dox, so the name could be carried on through the thirty
first century, assuming Nia's baby was a girl, amd each succeeding
generation also gave birth to at least one female, a situation that was
statistically probable. In Nia's case, however, this child was the only
one she could ever have, as she would revert to her trans status after
the drug wore off. And it could never be used again. The Dox's were
fortunate-soon after going into labor, Nia delivered Nyla Nal, a healthy
Naltorian/Human/Coluan hybrid baby. Hopefully, she had enough Naltorian
to pass on the genes for the sight that Nura would possess in the far
future. Since there about 30 generations between Nyla and Nura in the far
future, assuming that she married a full blooded Naltorian and her
descendants did also, Nura would most likely be as close to 100%
Naltorian as it was possible to be. Since she would be the female
offspring, she would most likely carry the Seeing gene. In the meantime,
Nia had some work to do.
Nia had spent ten months as a genetic XX female, and she had about eight
more until her serum wore off. Even though she had been a transwoman for
a long time, and had had full SRS surgery, it wasn't quite the same. For
example, for the next eight months she would be breasfeeding little Nyla,
and she would also have the monthly visitor that all human and humanoid
females experienced. Since she didn't have a mother to help her with
that she needed to talk to another genetic woman in order to find out how
to deal with it. The two obvious choices were Kara, her best friend, and
her sister. Since her sister was back in their home town, and currently
out of range, she opted to ask Kara. Kara remembered helping her cousin
Kal when he had been exposed to Pink Kryptonite with this same problem,
in addition to learning how to function as a woman for almost nine
months. In Kal's case, that had included hair, nails, makeup, clothing,
heels and a hundred other topics that women took for granted. As a
transwoman, Nia was familiar with all of these, and had been for years.
Except for those who actually knew her, absolutely no one had any inkling
she was not XX. The fact that she was a real beauty, with help from her
Naltorian genes went a long way in that direction. Pretty much the only
thing she needed help with was her cycle and how to care for herself.
Kara was only too happy to help her friend, and even went with her to
purchase the necessary supplies the first time she needed them. Kara
warned Nia, though, that for the next few months she was going to have to
deal with that herself.
Nia decided that since she was now a mother, she was going to continue to
be retired from the super hero life. Little Nyla needed constant care,
and she had decided to breastfeed her as long as was possible. She would
also store and freeze a supply of breast milk for when she no longer
could, so that Nyla could have a proper healthy diet for at least a year.
Another serious thing-she and Querl would have to be extremely careful
when they shared intimacy, since if she got pregnant again before the
serum wore off, it would cause instant death for the infant she was
carrying. She and Querl absolutely did not want that to happen. She
would have to be-and was-content with being the birth mother to one child
only.
Time went on. Querl was employed by the DEO, as were Alex and Kara, with
Alex being the director. The group of friends, including J'onn often
gathered at the Dox home with their various significant others. J'onn
was still with M'gaa, the white martian who used to tend bar at the alien
club, and had been away on Mars for a long time. She was now back. Alex
had a new partner, a beautiful blonde FBI agent, and the two seemed to be
getting serious. Kara, surprisingly, was often seen in the company of
Batman, sometimes in his guise of Bruce Wayne. She also wore civvies at
those times. While he didn't have any actual powers, he was her cousin's
best friend, the best detective in the world, and the most alpha male on
the planet. He was in no way intimidated by being in the presence of the
most powerful woman on the planet and others having powers. During the
Thanagarian invasion of a few years ago, he had personally taken out
using hand to hand combat, several of the invading Hawk Police. Even
though they were physically tougher than humans, including him. Batman
feared nothing. While in Nia's home, they of course avoided shop talk,
it was a safe haven, and made a fuss over the baby, which pleased Nia no
end. She loved the fact that had been able to give natural birth.
Evantually, it came to an end. Querl wasn't sure how things would turn
out when the serum wore off. Nia was biologically male, even though the
was transgendered and had been through all of her surgeries and hormone
treatments when the serum was administered. It had changed her into a
biological woman, and when it would wore off, she would revert to being
genetically XY, her normal state. The question was, would it undo all of
the treatments she had undergone-hormones, tracheal shave and facial
feminization, breast enhancement (largely through hormones and not
implants) and most importantly, her bottom surgery. Brainy just didn't
know. Finally the day came.
'Aunt' Kara had agreed to take the baby so the couple wouldn't be
disturbed. She would be unable to answer DEO or other emergency calls
while she was babysitting her goddaughter (none of the group were terran
Christian, so it was more of an honorary and legal title, rather than a
religious one. Kara was actually a priestess of Rao, and had been for
several years, ever since Kyla's death). She took little Nyla to the
fortress where she had a nursery set up, and waited for Querl's call to
let her know when she could return with their baby. And how Nia was, if
she would have to repeat all of her procedures. Even Brainy didn't know
the answer to that one, it had never come up in all of the histories.
Nia doubled over in pain, prompting her husband to enfold her in his
arms. While he wasn't physically strong, he had developed a keen sense
of emotions and their appropriatness. Nia cried out in pain and the
transformation began.
Her hair grew shorter, though it stopped at the length she had worn it
before her transformation. Her internal female organs disappeared, which
neither of them knew at the time, though they could surmise it. Her
feminine features, curves and breasts remained. And while her internal
organs disappeared, her external surgically produced genitalia remained,
as did her smooth throat-the result of a tracheal shave. In short, Nia
Nal Dox was now again a transgender woman, and an extremely attractive
one. The two kissed, partly out of relief, and signaled Kara to return
with Nyla, which she did. For all intents and purposes, the timeline for
the next ten centuries was intact.
EPILOGUE
On a certain day in the early part of the thirty first century, the
Legion of Super Heroes was having tryouts for admission to the Legion
Academy, and eventual membership in the Legion. There were five
legionaires assigned to this screening committee, including Saturn Girl
and Brainiac Five. They interviewed several candidates having extremely
minor powers and called the final applicant. It turned out to be a woman
from the planet Naltor, though she said from family histories that she
had both a terran and another non-naltorian as distant ancestors. Her
family had lived for a few centuries on Earth before emigrating back to
Naltor. She explained she had basically three powers-fortelling the
future in a limited way, the ability to create lightning whips, and the
ability to create a force field. She was also highly intelligent, the
result of a recessive gene for that trait. She had been rated as an
eighth level intelligence, while the standard human was only sixth. She
was asked to demonstrate her abilities, which she accomplished
successfully. She was asked to leave the room while a vote was taken.
The vote was unanimous-she was accepted to the academy, subject to a
background check. Which she would pass, Brainy knew. He sat back with a
mysterious smile. His however many great granddaughter had just been
accepted-and the timeline was secure. Good old GGRS.
