The Dunce Cap
It wasn't until the 2030's, with half of the world's present electrical

given it to me last week when we met back in my hometown, Alaska. "Nah
man, both you and me are in that hazmat suit today. Give it to Daryl.
He's wearing a black ensemble."
"The cap will be too much then, don't you think? Don't want him to look
like a boomer would we?" Crow takes the cap and wears it himself. The
moment he puts it on, he lets out a short giggle. That's strange. Crow is

But I don't give it further thought. Five minutes later I'm texting
Alicia, a girl who met me five months ago and worships me when it gets on
my nerves. The giggling. From Crow. He's on the phone, probably with

During the show, no - make that as soon as our performance began, Crow
began jumping up and down. With his knees closed but his feet a bit
apart. As far as I could tell neither did Julian or the crowd think much
of what he was doing. I coundn't tell him off just then so I kept staring
at him hoping he would look at me and stop. But when he did look at me,
his eyes opened a bit and before I could make any gesture, he winked at
me. That downright gave me goosebumps. Not cool . Not cool at all. I
could barely focus through the rest of the gig.

His behaviour got worse afterwards. The five of us - Julian, Harper,
Daryl, Khloe and I were in our dressing caravan parked 3 blocks away. I
was sitting at the entrance next to Harper, smoking (vaping). Harper was
using a cigar. Between puffs, I strike up a conversation with Harper.
"Hey man" *puff* . "Have you noticed that" *puff* "Khloes acting as if
he's a different person lately?" *puff*. We both turn to look at Khloe.
"Mmm mm. Oh yes. See Julian. Wasn't it a good idea of mine to talk you

waving it in front of me, "wanna play dares with the rest of us?" We were
in Julians apartment and had nothing to do until our next performance.
Which was eleven days away. Boys aren't immune to boredom. So, even
though I wanted to stay as away from Khloe as possible, which I really
did . But boredom kills so I joined the crew. They were talking about
something but I was only registering what Khloe was doing. How she sat on
Julians lap, how she looked so nice with makeup, how all of this was
possible only because of the cap on her head.
The dares started normal enough. Harper was asked to jump on the
trampoline with a force enough to make a hole in the middle, I was asked
to chew a card and not spit it out, Khloe was made to give Julian head in
front of the rest of us and Julian was made to apply brickloads of
sunscreen uptil the point he was unrecognizable.
But then it was Khloe's chance to give Daryl a dare. "Daryl I dare you to
put on this cap," she says taking her black cap and handing it over to
Daryl. "That's it?" Julian raises an eyebrow at Khloe, clearly
unimpressed by it all. Everybody's interest was waning as Daryl put it
on. "MMmmhh," Daryl moaned sensuously. Nobody gave two thoughts about the
noises Daryl was making, as if he were like that all his life except for
me. For some reason I was having this big boner while looking at Cheryl.
