Prom Date Ben Carter waited for all his peers to exit the classroom. His teacher Miss Jamieson had requested he stay behind for a few minutes. It was the end of the day on a Friday and a long weekend loomed. Ben was anxious to get back home. He suspected he knew what the teacher wanted to discuss, "So Ben, what am I going to do with you?" Miss Jamieson asked. She was an older lady with a kind smile and seemed genuinely concerned for Ben. Ben looked at her with a downcast look. "I don't know Miss," he replied. "Ben you are a star track athlete and are assured a place at a good university this fall. But, one of the conditions of this place, is a GPA average of 2.8. Right now you are borderline. You are especially low in mathematics. Is there anything troubling you?" Ben looked at Ms. Jamieson forlornly. "I don't know Miss. I do find some things hard to understand." "Well, we can't have you lose your scholarship. I have discussed this with your maths teacher, Mr. Robson, and also with your athletics coach. We have come up with a solution. We are going to pair you with another student who is brilliant at maths. Perhaps you both can communicate so you get a good understanding. Agree?" "Yes, Miss. But I don't have time for that. I practice three days a week and we have meets at the weekend." Ben was pleading his excuses. The fact is he didn't understand mathematics and he didn't think anybody could help. His parents had tried private tutors but Ben didn't make a connection and did not concentrate. The last thing he needed or wanted was to have some smart students talk down to him and start rumors in class and school. "Ben, I understand. But if you don't attain the passing grade, you will lose your scholarship. So we are going to find a student to help. I'll let you know on Tuesday after discussions with your other teachers. We want you to succeed but you must get that scholarship. Have a good weekend." The conversation hadn't taken long. Ben gathered his backpack and left the room deep in thought. Ms. Jamieson was right. But try as he might, Ben just didn't get maths. He exited the building worried about his scholarship. As he ambled toward the large entrance to the street, he saw a small crowd at the gates. They were mostly girls, laughing and joking. 'Good for them,' he thought. As he approached he saw a bunch of girls surround another girl with taunts. Ben was mild-mannered and had been the butt of many jokes early in his life. If not for the fact that he discovered his athletic talents on the track that he would never have gained any confidence. "So do you have a big or small cock?" he heard a girl ask. "You don't have a bust. But maybe you make up for it with your mouth." Ben looked at the small group and saw some girls surround Rhianna, a new girl in school. She had just transferred here. He didn't register their comments but recognized one of the girls taunting her as one of the track cheerleading squad. The girl Rhianna was surrounded and was crying. Ben was torn: he had been bullied in his early teens because of his slim stature and knew the taunting he had endured. This all changed when he discovered his talent for track events and became the fastest guy on the track. He didn't have many friends in school and didn't want to get involved. He knew exactly how Rhianna was feeling at that moment though. Something drove him toward the group. "Linda, stop it," he yelled. He recognized the lead tormentor. She was one of the girls on the cheerleading squad. "Oh, look who's here," Linda retorted. "If it isn't Mr. Track Star himself. Found your voice have you?" Ben walked up to Rhianna who had two tracks of tears rolling down her face. She was as tall as Ben with a slim figure and mop of curly hair in a high bob. Her light, coffee-colored skin indicated mixed parentage. He grabbed her gently by the arm and broke through the small group. "Be nice to her," Linda yelled. "She may have some hidden surprises for you." Ben ignored her and still holding Rhianna's arm walked away from the group. Rhianna had not uttered a word, "Don't worry about them," he reassured her. "They're just bullies. You OK?" Rhianna nodded, blew her nose with a tissue and dried her tears. "Thank you," she said softly. "I was bullied when I was younger. I know how it is. They'll find somebody else soon," Ben said with confidence he didn't feel. "Where do you live?" "37812 Edgewater," Rhianna replied softly. "I can manage, thanks." "Oh really. Mum and I live on Edgewater too but farther down on 41063. So it's on my way. Mind if we walk together? It's only about fifteen minutes. You're new to Winslow High, right?" "Yes, it's nice to have company. We only moved here several weeks ago. I just started in this school last week." "Yeah, I saw you but we didn't talk. I am Ben Carter. Welcome to Winslow." "Thanks. Rhianna Johnson," she replied softly. "Just finishing off my year before I go to college in the fall." "That's great. Where are you going?" "I've got a place at Mesa College." "Wow. You must be smart." "Oh no. My dad was smart and got me interested in maths when I was very young." "That's good. I am not so good at maths. I envy you." "So, Ben, where are you going to college?" Ben's face lit up. "You will be shocked. I got a full scholarship to Mesa too if I make my GPA average." "Hey, I am happy to know someone at Mesa." Rhianna's face broke into a small smile. "Well, to be honest, Ms. Jamieson was talking to me today after class. I am struggling with my grades, my track events and things. I'd like to go there but..." "Don't worry," Rhianna said reassuringly. "I am sure you'll make it." They were almost at Rhianna's house. "Ben, thanks for coming to help. I am not used to that." "Hey, no problem. We can walk together to and from school if you like. But somedays I have practice but I can let you know in the morning. 7.45 Tuesday morning? I 'll wait here." This was a three day weekend for president's day. "That would be very nice. See you." Rhianna went into the modern two- story house without looking back. He noticed she had a slim figure much like his own. Did she do track? The front garden was small but well kept. A few steps were leading to the front door indicating the presence of a basement. The house appeared to be in very good condition. Ben walked the remaining ten minutes to his house with a jaunty stride. At least the walk would be more interesting with a companion like Rhianna. He avoided thinking about the conversation with Ms. Jamieson. It would be a terrible blow to his prospects - and his mother - if he failed to graduate with the required grades. Ben's mother was waiting for him. His father was in the army in the Middle East and wouldn't be back for a long time. He was very close to his mother and she was waiting for him in their modest bungalow. He didn't get on too well with his father. "You're late," she said hugging him. "Ya mum. Ms. Jamieson wanted to talk to me about my grades." Ben's mother Alicia looked at him. "I know. She called me too." "It'll be OK, mum. I'll work hard. I know I need to improve especially in maths." "Ms. Jamieson wants to put you in touch with another student who can help. I told her to do what is possible and that you would co-operate." "Yes, mum, I will." Ben rose from the kitchen table. "I am going for a shower," he said and left the room. Ben took a leisurely shower and wondered about his encounter with Rhianna. He wondered what Linda was on about although he wasn't near enough to hear her comments. As Ben came into the kitchen to help his mum prepare dinner he saw her looking at him with raised eyebrows. "What?" he asked with a smile "Who's Rhianna?" "Oh, she is a new girl in school." "Anything more you can tell me?" his mum asked with a small smile. "Yes, well Linda and some other girls were teasing her and I asked them to stop. We walked back together because they live on the same street as us but nearer the school." "Her mum Jacinda called whilst you were in the shower. She wanted to thank us and invited us for coffee tomorrow morning. I accepted." "Mum. I can't. I have to practice. We have that meet next weekend and I have to be on top." "Hmmm. I'll call Jacinda and tell her we can't make it. I thought it might be nice to meet people and for you to make a new friend." "Why don't you go? I have agreed to walk with Rhianna to and from school." Ben appeared uncomfortable with the idea. "No, she wanted us to meet together. They don't have a man in the house either so we have some things in common. I think it is very kind of her. Why don't you take your things with you? Then we'll meet them and you can go on to your training after that." There wasn't much to say. "OK," Ben said with a shrug. He wasn't keen and not a very confident person and girls especially made him nervous. But he had promised to accompany Rhianna to school and back every day so he didn't want to be impolite. The next morning Ben and his mother. Lucy left the house mid-morning. They would go to Rhianna's house and afterward, Lucy would drop him off at the track. Lucy didn't expect the coffee to last more than an hour. The house was very well appointed with modern furniture and lighting. Large windows let in streams of light. The living room was very long and ended with a large dining table with great views of a well-kept garden. .Jacinda greeted them warmly. She called for Rhianna to join them. She came out to greet them. She was not smiling and did not return Ben's greeting. The adults shook hands but the children just said 'hi'. There were plates and cups on the low coffee table with plates of cookies and small pastries. "Lucy, would you like some coffee? Ben, do you drink coffee or something else? Juice?" Jacinda asked. "Could I have some juice, please?" Ben replied softly. "Rhianna, why don't you get Ben and yourself some juice?" Jacinda suggested. Rhianna led Ben to the spacious kitchen and served him juice. Jacinda poured out coffee for Lucy and herself. They discussed the neighborhood and the places of interest, shopping and entertainment. Jacinda also explained that she was a recent divorcee and that they had moved to the area to get away from their previous life. There was more to the story but it appeared that Rhianna's father was an important lawyer who had been generous in the divorce settlement. Lucy knew that her marriage was rocky too and Ben's dad enjoyed being away from home for long periods to avoid the arguments. It was only a matter of time before a divorce would be discussed. She took an instant liking to Jacinda. They were of similar ages, status and the biggest difference appeared to be in their bank accounts. Lucy would not get the lifestyle that Jacinda had won. No matter. She had Ben and that was worth life itself. After some chatter about the school and teachers and the common thread of Mesa University, Jacinda turned serious. She looked at Rhianna whose face became a mask. "Lucy, Ben," Jacinda started, "there is something we should tell you. I am grateful to you Ben for helping Rhianna yesterday. Kids can be cruel and Rhianna has been through a lot. That is why we moved here hoping for a peaceful life." Jacinda paused to take a sip of coffee. Perhaps it was more to assess the reaction so far to her comments. "The simple truth is that Rhianna is transgendered. For some years now she has been through counseling and is adjusting. But despite great academic grades, her previous school classmates did not react well to her decision to be Rhianna full time." Seeing the blank look on Ben's face Jacinda paused and looked at Lucy. Lucy looked at Ben. "Ben, this means that Rhianna was born a boy and is in the process of transitioning to become a woman." It was a difficult subject and had never been an area of discussion between them. Ben looked blankly at Rhianna. "Are you a boy like me?" Rhianna looked at him with that mask on her face. "Yes, I was born a boy but should have been born a girl. That's who I am." Jacinda picked up the discussion. "I wanted you both to know this because there is no point in continuing with lies. Rhianna has been through a lot of taunting and bullying. Sooner or later kids will know. Then it may be worse. That is why I thought some months here before graduation and university would help her adjust. But we don't want to deceive anyone. I love Rhianna with all my heart and will protect her at all costs. I don't want to have her get close to people, who then find out, are offended and break off with her. That has happened and that is why we moved here. Lucy, can we take a stroll in the garden and let these two chat?" "Jacinda yes. That would be a good idea. For my part, Rhianna is welcome in our house at any time. So please don't hesitate." The two mothers left the room. Rhianna looked at Ben. They were sitting on separate chairs but close to each other. "Rhianna, I don't understand what you are going through. I know about bullying because I too was bullied. I don't have many friends off the track. I would like to know more and would like you to be my friend. Sorry, I don't know what else to say. I vent my frustrations on the track and use up that energy to run. I am going to track practice after we leave here." Rhianna looked at Ben disbelievingly. Two tracks of tears rolled from her eyes. Instinctively, she leaned forward and hugged Ben briefly. "Thank you." she whispered, "Thank you." Ben sat there impassively. Except for his mum, he had never experienced hugs. His father had patted him but that was some time ago. He felt the warmth of Rhianna's body and the faint perfumed smell. He liked it. "Can I come with you to the track?" Rhianna asked quietly. "I won't get in your way." Ben looked at her surprised. Nobody had wanted to see him train. It was different at meets of course. "Do you have track gear?" he asked quietly. Rhianna nodded. "We bought some but I have never used them. I'll go change." She got up and left Ben seated with a blank look on his face. The ladies returned to the drawing-room and found only Ben. They were unsure as to what had transpired. "Is everything OK?" Lucy asked Ben. "Everything is fine Mrs. Carter," Rhianna said from behind the ladies. "I was going to join Ben on the track." Both ladies turned and saw Rhianna in training gear with sneakers and a big smile on her face. "I am sure he will outrun me but it would be a fun exercise." Both ladies smiled. Ben and Rhianna had each found a friend. "I'll drop you two at the track," Jacinda said. "I don't know how far it is but you can call me when you need a ride home." Jacinda went to the kitchen and came out with several bottles of water. Rhianna put them in her backpack without comment. "It's no problem, Mrs. Baker. I can walk Rhianna home. It's around twenty minutes from here." "Ben, I will be home and can pick you up too. So call when you are done and let me know what you have decided." Lucy was pleased with Ben's reaction although she suspected he didn't fully understand Rhianna's situation. Jacinda dropped them off at the track. She had exchanged telephone numbers with Lucy and was happy to have found a friend. She was even more excited that Rhianna had found a friend. Ben had not said much but he had been quite clear that he had no preconceived notions. Jacinda was also sure Ben did not fully understand transgenderism. But he had the first requisite: an open mind. Ben and Rhianna didn't say much. There was no way Rhianna could keep up with Ben. She ran some slow rounds around the track. Ben overtook her several times. After several rounds, Ben slowed down and did stretches, He then sat down next to Rhianna who handed him a bottle of water. They sat quietly for some moments before Ben looked at Rhianna. "What does transgender mean?" he asked quietly. "I have no idea." Rhianna looked at him and a tight smile appeared on her face. They were sitting close together, bodies touching. Ben was in shorts and Rhianna had a tight-fitting tracksuit that hugged her slim body. Rhianna was trying to assess the root of Ben's question: sheer ignorance or some curiosity. Ben's look convinced her of his sincerity. Rhianna's hand touched Ben's as she looked straight ahead and began. "I was born a boy in Chicago over seventeen years ago. From an early age, I preferred to play with girls and their dolls rather than boys. Luckily, we knew more girls than boys and so it was easy. I had no idea that people, including my father, thought it strange that I played with dolls rather than climb trees." Rhianna paused to see Ben's reaction. Seeing a passive face, she continued: "I was nine or ten when the girls dressed me in their clothes for a 'tea party'. I remember clearly how the adults laughed as I pranced around quite happy to be a girl. At Halloween that year I asked my parents if I could dress as Snow White. My father was mad and shouted in the house. His anger was not directed at me but at my mother for encouraging such behavior in me. I remember how he left the house banging the front door. My mother sat down with me and explained that my dad wanted me to be batman or something. Mum then asked me how I thought Snow White should be dressed. I went to my room and brought out a book I had read and showed her a picture of Snow White. She asked me if this is what I wanted. I said 'yes'. Mum explained that some boys might laugh. I didn't care. I wanted to dress as Snow White. So mum bought me everything and I went trick or treating with my friends. They all loved my costume. They said I looked pretty. I loved how I looked. From that day on, I used to dress sometimes as Snow White when I played dress-up with my girl-friends. " Rhianna looked at Ben who hadn't said a word so far. He had that same passive look on his face. Rhianna reached for his hand which he didn't retract. Sensing approval to continue, Rhianna began. "Of course as we got older my friends changed. Some had moved away. The other girls and I continued as before. I didn't get to dress frequently but as the girls began to buy more fashionable clothes and use makeup, I wanted to be like them. Emma was my closest friend. She asked me to come with her and select clothes for her 13th birthday. Her parents gave her money. Mum also gave me money to buy clothes. Emma saw this very nice dress in a lavender color. She loved it. I liked it too. Emma saw my look and suggested I buy the same dress but in pink. I loved the idea. Not for s moment did I think anything about a boy buying a dress. We tried the dresses and I was amazed at the feeling of the soft material. I bought the dress and matching shoes as did Emma." By now Rhianna was firmly clasping Ben's hand. He didn't pull back but continued to look passively at her, his face a mask. Ben reached for the bottle of water and took a big swig. His left hand was still firmly in Rhianna's Ben could see the questions in Rhianna's face. "Did you like it?" he asked finally. Rhianna tightened her grip on Ben's hand. "Yes. I loved the feeling. When mum saw what I had bought she was shocked. Dad was spending less and less time at home. This was not just because of me. I think mum and dad were having problems. I heard them shouting often." Rhianna also gulped some water, her right hand firmly holding on to Ben's. "There was no way I was not going to wear that dress to Emma's birthday. Mum helped me and drove me there. Everybody at the party was shocked except Emma. She knew I would be coming in a dress. She took my hand and introduced me as her friend Rhianna. She took me to her room and applied some lipstick on my lips. I looked fantastic. Then we went back to join the others. Nobody made any comment and all accepted me as Rhianna. I had a good time. At that moment I knew that I should have been born a girl." Rhianna's grip on Ben's hand tightened. "I bet you looked good," Ben finally said, a small smile on his face. "I think they were jealous that a boy could look so good in a dress." A small smile appeared on Rhianna's face. Ben was taking it well. "So how did your mum react?" Ben asked. "Well, she was worried at first. Then she helped me dress and encouraged me to behave like a girl. When she saw me with lipstick and enjoying myself and all the parents left at the party were commenting on how pretty I was, she had to admit I looked good. I decided then that I was a girl in a boy's body. From that time on I used to dress as Rhianna at weekends and mum and I used to go to the mall or eating. Of course, she bought me new clothes and accessories and allowed me to get my ears pierced. At fifteen, I persuaded mum I could only go to school as a girl. She took me to counseling, changed my school and discussed my gender with the principal. They accepted but some of the kids found out and began calling me names and bullying me. At my last school, some of the boys got me into the male bathroom and wanted me to do things to them. I screamed and got beaten. Luckily, a teacher was nearby and rescued me. I had a black eye for some weeks. The boys were expelled from the school. Their friends continued to bully me. Mum decided we should move here. Luckily, even though I was bullied and had no friends. I used my energy to study and did well. That's how I got the scholarship to Mesa College." By this time, Rhianna was holding Ben's hand firmly. He was more than happy to have his hand in Rhianna's. "I am sorry for what you experienced. I didn't have the same problems but I was also bullied. Neither the boys nor the girls seemed to like me. Around fifteen, I was on the track and found I could beat all my peers. The coach knew I was a loner and encouraged me to develop my track skills, He helped me a lot and that is why I have a scholarship to Mesa. But my grades are not good and if I don't maintain my grades, I will lose the scholarship. That would hurt my mum more than me," Ben said wistfully. "What about your dad?" Rhianna asked. "It is similar to what you said about your mum and dad. My dad is in the army and spends long periods overseas. When he is home he is mostly drunk and abusive to my mum. He hates me as he doesn't think I am a 'man'." "It seems we have a lot in common," Rhianna said softly. "I never told my story to anybody except psychologists and doctors." "Well, I don't understand these things but I think you should do what makes you happy," Ben said. "That's what my mum always says. I'll call mum and we can go home." Ben had to release Rhianna's hand and grabbed his phone. "Mum, we are walking home now," he said. He listened to his mum and then asked, "Can Rhianna visit with me till then?" Ben listened again, said 'OK' and hung up. It seems we are all going for dinner tonight. Would you like to come to my house and we can play video games, listen to music or... or talk." "Yes, I'd like that. Let me call mum." Rhianna called her mum and explained how she would spend the afternoon. Her mum agreed. She turned to Ben and gave him a brief hug. "Thanks for listening," she said softly. Their faces were inches apart and Rhianna pecked Ben on the lips. It was brief but sent a shockwave through both. It was a first kiss. They walked back slowly not holding hands. They talked about music, films, video games and normal things. The subject of Rhianna's gender never came up. Lucy offered them some snacks and drinks and left them alone. Jacinda called and said she would pick Rhianna up as she wanted her to change before dinner. Ben and Rhianna listened to Ben's collection of music, mostly hard rock in distinct contrast to his personality. Jacinda came by to pick Rhianna up so she could change before dinner. It was a very pleasant dinner that Jacinda insisted on paying for. The talk was casual and it seemed that the two families that found and unifying bond: friendship and acceptance. There would be many such evenings. It was a long weekend and Rhianna and Ben met again and went to the movies. It wasn't a date but they both enjoyed each other's company. Ben promised to meet Rhianna at the agreed time on his way to school on Tuesday. During a period break, Ms. Jamieson and Mr. Bothell, the track coach for Ben, had a meeting. "Ben, Mr. Bothell and I are concerned for your grades. We do not want you to lose your scholarship. We think you could use some coaching from another student who appears to be quite gifted in English and Maths. Are you open to such help?" As always, Ben didn't have much to say. He knew that he couldn't afford to lose his grant. "I guess, but who is this student? You know I don't have much contact with other students." "Yes, we have seen that," Ms. Jamieson said. "But this student hasn't found too many friends either. Mr. Bothell?" Mr. Bothell stood up and went to the door and invited the other student in. Both students looked at each other for a moment and then a rare smile broke out on Ben's face. "Rhianna?" Ben whispered. "I didn't know ..." "Me neither," Rhianna smiled. "I would be happy to help you." Ms. Jamieson and Mr. Bothell watched this short interaction with quiet smiles. It was good that they appeared to know each other. "You two seem to know each other it seems," Ms. Jamieson commented. "Yes, we walked together to school today. We live close to each other," Ben replied. "Rhianna has excellent grades in maths and English and has won a full scholarship to Mesa to study Sociology. You two can meet in breaks or after school. Rhianna, Ben here has a scholarship to Mesa because of his outstanding track performance. He needs better grades in Maths but could also use some help in English. Do you think you can find the time to help?" Rhianna looked at Ben. He had admitted his weakness but she didn't know she would be asked to help him. "If Ben would like it, I would be happy to help him." "Yes please," is all Ben had to say after a thoughtful pause. "That's settled then," Ms. Jamieson said. "Please agree to your timings. Mr. Bothell and I are looking forward to see improved grades, Ben," In the corridor, Rhianna smiled at Ben. "I would be very happy to help, OK. We can do homework together and please think of any maths problems that you didn't understand. I will try to help explain it." Ben looked at Rhianna for a moment. "I I'm glad they picked you," he said quietly. "Maybe we can do homework together tonight." "Yes. We can stop at my house." There was a sly smile on Rhianna's face. They went to their respective classes and agreed to meet at the end of the day to walk home. During a break, ben texted his mum to explain what had happened and that Rhianna was going to be his coach for English & Maths. He would spend time with her every day to improve his grades. Over the following months, Ben and Rhianna spend more time with each other. There were comments from the school bullies about them. Since they didn't spend much time with these students, the taunts were wasted, Rhianna took it more seriously. She often heard boys ask her to fellate them or do other things. Even though she tried to ignore them, the remarks hurt. Ben always comforted her. Over time, Ben asked Rhianna questions about her transition which she answered honestly. She was taking hormones and had a nice set of breasts which became more noticeable over time. She hadn't thought of any surgery beyond breast augmentation. Rhianna was growing more confident and whilst they didn't discuss it, most students considered Ben and Rhianna an item. They were both derided for it with all manner of name- calling. Ben suffered less because of his athletic performance. Jacinda and Lucy watched as Ben and Rhianna acted like two normal high school seniors. There was no overt sexual activity, but Rhianna did tell Jacinda that Ben had kissed her at the movies or when they were alone. It was something she had wanted. They hadn't gone beyond that for which both Lucy and Jacinda were grateful. They wanted it to be natural and mutual. They both were pleased that their offspring had found a close friend. Ben and Rhianna spent time together studying and also at the movies or in the mall. Under Rhianna's tutelage and in an effort to be with her at Mesa College, Ben applied himself to improve his grades. Rhianna was patient and explained the solutions to the mathematical equations. By forcing Ben to read to her, she would question him and thus helped him improve his grades, Ms. Jamieson and Mr. Bothell were very pleased with Ben's progress and indicated that he had improved enough to ensure graduation. Lucy was thrilled. Life was suddenly good. A new friend that had become close; the certain graduation of her son and his entry into college and most importantly Ben's relationship to Rhianna. She attributed Ben's graduation to Rhianna's help and did not dwell on the gender issue. She had taught Ben to accept people as they were and knew that Ben fully accepted Rhianna as the beautiful girl she was. Spring brought around the question of graduation and the prom. They had several discussions about this. Rhianna didn't want to go. Ben wasn't keen but he thought Rhianna should show all those who taunted what a beautiful prom date she would be. He said he would be proud to accompany her. Jacinda too took Ben's side and soon persuaded Rhianna that she should attend the prom with Ben. Rhianna reluctantly agreed. Lucy was very happy that Ben would be seen with a beautiful girl on his arm. Next Saturday Rhianna persuaded Ben to go prom dress shopping with her. Once she decided, she would go with her mum to purchase the dress and accessories. They visited all the stores in the mall and Ben was fascinated with all the outfits he saw. It appeared to be a collection of items from dress to shoes to accessories. Boys had it easier with a tux and shoes but they were not as exciting as the outfits for the girls. Rhianna asked Ben for his opinion. To each, he said 'great'. At the last store, Rhianna went to a section of evening dresses. She selected a dress in a copper color that perfectly matched her skin tone. It fitted her frame perfectly with a flared collar halfway below her knee. It would be tight and require small steps. It was very elegant. Ben gushed how wonderful it was. This was totally unlike Ben and Rhianna saw the sparkle in his eye. "So do you think this is the one?" she asked coyly. "Absolutely. It suits you perfectly. Boys don't have such exciting clothes to choose from," Ben replied enthusiastically. Rhianna's face broke out into a big smile. "Then why don't you buy a dress like this too. You are about my size and would look good I am sure. We can be sisters." Ben's face remained passive, his mind trying to comprehend. Was Rhianna joking? "Are you serious?" he asked quietly. Rhianna could see his mind wandering and an impish thought came to her. She knew he would do what she wanted. "Why not if you like the style? It would show those bullies that you are not less male." "Oh," Ben sighed. "It's what they have been saying about me to my face and behind my back. That I am a boy in a dress and they laugh at me." "Are you serious?" Ben asked "Of course you must do as you want and be who you want to be. That is what you have been telling me. I should dress as I like as it is my life." Rhianna's voice had turned serious "You wouldn't laugh at me?" "Why would I laugh as I will be wearing a similar dress"? "Everybody there will think it's funny and laugh at me". Rhianna's demeanor changed. "So, it's OK if they laugh at me as a boy in a dress? I thought you were different." A tear formed in Rhianna's eye. "Let's go home. I don't need a dress as I won't be going to any prom to be laughed at." Rhianna turned away to hide her tears and put the dress back on the rack. "I'm going home. If you think I am ashamed to wear a dress, you got it wrong. I am proud to wear what I want. Oh, Ben, I thought you were different." Rhianna made her way out of the store. Ben rushed after her. "Rhianna, please stop. Can we talk? Please?" Ben was pleading with her. He grabbed her arm. "Please, you know I didn't mean it like that. Please. We can sit by that bench over there." Around a central planted area there were some low concrete benches. Rhianna let herself be guided to a bench. Ben held her hand. Rhianna let him with a sniffle. They sat there for several moments, holding hands firmly, silent and each deep in their thoughts. Rhianna just looked at him with sad eyes, not saying a word. Suddenly, both began to speak at once. "I'm sorr..." came out of their mouths simultaneously but the sentence never finished as Rhianna grabbed Ben's head and kissed him hard, tongue thrusting into his mouth. They were oblivious to their surroundings; two lovers expressing their feelings. "Rhianna, I would never hurt you. Do you know that? You have to believe me. What you suggested there took me by surprise. I never thought about and I would never laugh at you. Please believe me." Ben managed to whisper whilst still hugging Rhianna. "I'm sorry Ben. I would never force you to do anything. I just thought you enjoyed the dress so much that you could be my sister. Sorry." "If I agreed to do it, would you help me? I mean in everything," Ben asked. Rhianna looked at him. "You don't have to do it for me, Ben. I didn't mean that. It has to be something you want to do just like I had to do." "Look, I am sorry for the way it sounded. You know I didn't mean it. Can we discuss this later?" "Yes. Will you kiss me again? Am I forgiven?" "Yes, there's nothing to forgive and I like kissing you. My first girlfriend." Ben stressed girl. "And you are my first boyfriend and prom partner, however you dress. Agreed?" Their kiss was tender and long. A new and deeper bond had formed. They walked back toward home, holding hands. Even though Rhianna lived further away. Ben walked her back with a promise to call later. He didn't know what his mother had planned. He then returned home deep in thought. He knew that everyone at the prom would be waiting to laugh either overtly or covertly at Rhianna and Ben. Rhianna had become a good friend who had helped him immensely with classwork. Those kisses this afternoon had triggered an even closer bond. But there was someone whom he trusted implicitly: his mother. He would need her advice and guidance. It would be a difficult discussion. "So, how did it go? Did Rhianna find her prom dress?" Lucy asked Ben as he came through the door. She was busy in the kitchen. Hearing no reply she came out to see Ben. "What's the matter, hon?" Lucy could see the troubled look on Ben's face. They were close and he couldn't hide much from her. Until now, he had been very open with her. "Honey, what's the matter? Did you disagree with Rhianna? Come sit and tell me. I was just making tea." Lucy went back into her kitchen and Ben followed. Lucy placed a pot of tea on the table and two cups. Ben rarely drank tea but it was a gesture. "Everything is OK with Rhianna now," Ben said. "But she is worried that when we turn up to the prom everybody will think of her as a boy in a dress. I told her that she would be the prettiest girl there." Lucy placed her hand on Ben's. "Honey, you have seen how bullies work. They find any excuse to mock and laugh at people they think are not normal. You've experienced that yourself. I suspect that there is more to the story. I will listen." Ben described in detail what had happened that morning; the shops they had visited and how they had found a perfect dress that Rhianna and Ben loved. He described how he felt the material and was sad they didn't have such textures and colors for boys. He went on to describe that if he liked the material so much he should also consider wearing a dress to the prom. If she could do it proudly and be who she wanted to be, then why not he? He explained how he was so upset at the idea. But he was also tempted. Rhianna had said that if she dared to be who she wants to be and dress as she wants, why couldn't he? Ben explained their discussion and makeup omitting the deep kisses they had shared. "So how did you leave it with Rhianna?" Lucy asked drinking her tea. This was her second cup as she saw the confusion in Ben's face. She was confused herself. Had Ben's relationship with Rhianna also caused him to have doubts about his sexuality? "She said she would go with me however I wanted to dress." "And what did you reply?" Lucy asked fearful of the answer. "I said I would think about it. I also wanted to talk to you about it." Ben's voice dropped. "So, what would you like to do?" Lucy tried hard not to let her concerns be heard in her voice. This was a new idea. "Do you think it strange if I go to the prom with Rhianna in a dress? I want to show her that she should be who she is just like you always tell me." "Well, it would only be strange if you looked like a boy in a dress and Rhianna looked beautiful. I realize you want to support her - as you have done and I am very proud of you for that. But you also have to accept that some there will think it very funny and may mock you." Lucy did not want to openly criticize Ben for wanting to wear a dress. He needed to decide what he wanted. She was his mother and would support him however he dressed. But she also had her concerns that he be aware of the risks involved. It was hard to imagine her son in a dress. "I know that. But they will mock Rhianna. It will be harder for them to mock both of us. I want to show everybody that she is my gi.. my friend." "It's OK Ben. You can say, girlfriend. That is how you see her and accept her, right?" "Yes, mum. We have even kissed. I like her a lot and she has helped me. Without her, I don't think I would graduate." "Yes, hun, I know she has helped and I am glad you want to support her. I just want you to understand fully what you might encounter." "Mum, I understand. Rhianna has told me about everything she experienced at her school when she became Rhianna." Ben was thoughtful for a second. "I had the same feeling before I got into track sports. I haven't made friends except for Rhianna." "So what do you want to do?" Lucy suspected she knew the answer but she wanted to hear it from Ben. Ben looked at Lucy for a long moment. His grip on her hand tightened. "When I see those people on TV marching for a cause, they wear something or dress somehow to identify with the cause. I want to do the same. If you and Rhianna will help me I think I would like to show everybody that I am not afraid to support her by wearing a dress. Will you help me?" "Hun, that's quite a speech. I am proud that you want to stand up for what you believe in. Of course, I will help you. But I have a condition." Ben looked at her startled. "What?" "I want you to be as pretty as Rhianna, in a dress and makeup and be able to dance with her in heels. I don't want you to be the 'ugly sister'. Do yourself and her proud. Agreed?" Ben looked at her for a long moment. "Yes. I don't want people to laugh at me more than necessary." "You have to tell Rhianna and Jacinda. It will take time to prepare. When is the prom?" "Saturday, 5th of May." "That's the week after your track finals. You also have finals coming up so you won't have much time to learn. We need Rhianna and Jacinda to agree. Will you call or shall I call Jacinda?" "No mum, I will call Rhianna. I said I would call her anyway." Ben left the kitchen and Lucy sat there pondering on where life would lead them both. She only wanted Ben to be happy and successful. That he had a close relationship with Rhianna didn't bother her. Times were different but there was one night in college where Lucy and Maria, her room-mate, had spent one tipsy night making out even to the point of penetration with Maria's toy. She didn't regret it, missed the warmth occasionally. But it had not turned into her being only into women. That was the first and the last. Her current relationship with Walt, Ben's father, was dead and divorce was coming. Ben didn't know that yet but he had no relationship with his father and wouldn't miss it. She would yearn for that understanding, friendship and warmth that came from a relationship, male or female. That is what Ben had with Rhianna. It was his first deep relationship with a peer, male or female. Once he went to college he would meet more people and find many friends who wouldn't judge. It was comforting that Rhianna would be at the same college. Lucy sat there for a long time it seemed until Ben came back. The tea was cold. Ben had his cell in his hand. "Jacinda and Rhianna would like to meet tonight. Can we do that?" Ben sounded quite cheerful. Lucy looked at the change in Ben. That had been the result of his chat with Rhianna. She envied him. "Yes, tell them I have a simple pasta and salad for dinner and they are welcome to join." Ben relayed the message and gave Lucy a thumbs up. "What time?" he asked. "6 pm is fine. We'll have time to chat before dinner." Lucy was pleased with Ben's changed demeanor. It was just after 3 pm and she would make a quick dash to the store. Promptly at 6, there was a knock on the door and Jacinda and Rhianna entered. After a warm greeting all around, they sat on the sofa in the living room. Rhianna and Ben sat close together on the small couch. Lucy and Jacinda sat on comfortable stuffed chairs, all part of the living room set. Lucy poured wine for Jacinda and herself; Ben got Rhianna and himself some juice. During the small talk, Lucy and Jacinda observed the interaction between Rhianna and Ben. It was easy and relaxed. Neither showed any stress. Jacinda broke the easy calm. "We know why we are here. Ben and Lucy, you both know how I love and appreciate my daughter." Jacinda emphasized the word 'daughter'. "I am grateful and happy she has found a friend and companion in Ben who has given her a new purpose in life. I can't tell you how grateful I am. Rhianna also told me of your plans for prom night." Jacinda paused to take a big sip of wine. "I have only one question for you Ben: Is this your decision or has Rhianna put pressure on you. I know how persuasive she can be." Ben was quiet and looked at his mother and then Rhianna. His hand crept slowly into Rhianna's where he got a supportive squeeze. "Rhianna has helped me too and without her, I would have problems to graduate. Over these last few months, I have seen how strong Rhianna is to be who she wants to be. I don't want her to hear stupid comments at the prom. If I also dressed up, it will be harder for them to laugh at both of us. There will be some who will. I know that. But I think I would like to wear a dress to the prom." "Lucy?" Jacinda asked after a long pause in the conversation. Lucy looked at the serious look on Ben's face. If she did not support him, there would be a wall building between Ben and her. If she supported him, he would appreciate it but she wondered at the signal she was sending. Ben was going to college in the fall certainly because of Rhianna's help and tutelage. "I am still trying to visualize my Ben in a dress and makeup wearing heels. We have brought him up to fight for the things he believes in. If he is sure he wants to do this, I will support him." Lucy paused. "But I have some conditions: first that his grades and track performance can't drop. He must graduate. Secondly, he must try - with all our help - to be as pretty and confident as Rhianna will be. This will require practice. She doesn't need an awkward and 'ugly sister' going to prom with her." Lucy paused again. "Jacinda, how do you feel about Rhianna going to the prom with a girlfriend?" Jacinda also took her time to study Rhianna and Ben. She looked at Lucy and similar thoughts went through her mind. What she thought didn't matter. She wanted to protect Rhianna from derision and humiliation. She admired Ben for wanting to support her daughter in such a way and attend the prom. "Ben, I can't describe how much I admire your desire to support Rhianna. I can only support Lucy's conditions. If you agree to do this willingly, you can count on my support. Do we all agree?" "Yes," everyone said in unison. Rhianna turned and hugged Ben. Lucy and Jacinda saw this and exchanged small smiles. It would be an interesting few months. "Dinner in ten minutes. We can talk about a plan after dinner. Ben, you can lay the table," Lucy said. Rhianna jumped up at the same time. "I can help." Jacinda and Lucy were left alone. "Are we doing the right thing?" Lucy asked. "Only time will tell. I share your concerns and perhaps after some experimentation. Ben will change his mind. I am very glad they have the confidence to discuss with us openly. We need to be enthusiastic and sincere. I hope and pray they will work it out." Jacinda took a big gulp of wine and rose with Lucy. They instinctively hugged both offering a silent prayer things would work out. Dinner was a quiet affair. Everyone had their thoughts, Rhianna was the most vocal stating how beautiful Ben would look. She described in detail all the outfits they had seen and the accessories that went with each outfit. Ben sat next to her not saying much but a smile was on his face. After the dishes were cleared, they still sat at the small dining table. "So what do we need to do to get Ben ready?" Lucy asked. "Ben, what is your schedule at the weekends?" Jacinda asked. "I have an important track event the week before prom. I need to train hard for that. I need a few hours every weekend day. Why?" "It would be important to have some practice so you gain confidence in female dress and heels. I realize that weekdays may be more difficult and that is why we need a plan." "Ben, you can do your training early in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays, can't you?" Lucy asked. Ben thought for a moment. "Yes, I guess I can be done by about 10 am. Why>" "Well, if you want to go through with this, we will need to get some stuff and you may have to practice being a girl to gain confidence. Have you ever dressed as a girl before? For Halloween?" "Oh no, never, I think I was batman when I was seven or so. Right, mum?" "Yes. Ben never took to Halloween trick and treating. We never celebrated the event," Lucy added. "I suggest that Lucy get Ben's measurements and we go shopping tomorrow. You either can come with Lucy and me or do something else. This will be just initial stuff." "I was planning to train and be done by 10 or so. Do I have to try stuff out in the shop?" There was a hint of fear in Ben's voice and Lucy took heart. He might change his mind yet. "Probably not at this stage. But this means you have to trust Jacinda and me to pick out stuff. No arguments about styles or colors." Lucy said. "Ben, I can go with mum and Lucy and meet you after that. Is that OK?" Rhianna's smile would get Ben to do anything. "Yes, OK," Ben said. "I can do some stuff till you guys get back," "Rhianna and Ben why don't you go Ben's room and talk or play video," Lucy suggested. "I want to talk to Jacinda." Ben and Rhianna were more than happy to escape and they disappeared quickly. "I have some cognac left from Walt's last visit home. Can I offer you a glass? I think I need something strong." Jacinda smiled. "Yes, I think I need one too. A small drink, please." Lucy poured out two small shot glasses and took a sip. "I have no idea how I'm going to handle this," Lucy confessed. "I understand. I hope Rhianna didn't push Ben into this. She likes him a lot and was even talking about sharing an apartment in college. But that is down the road." "Ben never mentioned that. He is normally quite open with me. This is a departure for the shy and awkward boy I used to know. I am really happy for his self-confidence and the thought that he will graduate and get that scholarship. Without Rhianna's help, he wouldn't have made it. I can't afford it otherwise." "Don't worry, things have a way of working out. So how do we train Ben in the feminine arts?" "I have no idea. We have to think of his hair, his bust and other things," Lucy said. Her imagination could not picture Ben with longer hair or breasts. Did she want a daughter? "Yes, he doesn't have the same history as Rhianna so we'll have to research the best way forward. I did some research but that was over five years ago when she said she wanted to be Rhianna. There is much more talk about cross-dressing nowadays and I've seen remarkable TV images. Men dressed as beautiful women. They are in film, on TV and magazines. From runway models to the seedier side. Except they have done it for a long time and even professionally. For Ben, it is a one-time thing. It will also depend on the outfit, I guess." Lucy looked at Jacinda. Could it be that Ben would want to dress this way after the prom? He would need to practice before of course. "Frankly, I don't know where to start. This is all a shock to my system although I am glad he shared it with me." Lucy wanted to help Ben but the thought of him becoming a girl for a night and how to help him achieve that confused her. "Lucy, I have more experience with this than you. I can take the lead. I need your help of course, but it may be fun and Ben and Rhianna may get a chance to kick some bully butts. OK?" Lucy nodded gratefully. "Thanks," she replied softly. "OK, time to get moving. I will pick you up around 10? Is that OK?" Lucy nodded. "Sure. I'll call them." Ben and Rhianna came into the living room with big smiles on their faces. Jacinda gave Lucy a tight hug and whispered that it would all be OK. They both watched as Rhianna gave Ben a big hug too and a sweet kiss on the mouth. They were oblivious to their parents. It was not too late and Lucy was not ready for bed. She asked Ben to undress to his boxers and then call her. She needed to take measurements. It didn't take Ben long. Lucy measured his height, bust, waist, hips and inner leg. Ben allowed this to happen without comment. Lucy ran her hands along his chest; hair growth was sparse. She turned him around and noticed not much hair growth. "How often do you shave?" Lucy asked "About two or three times a week only." "You realize that although you don't have much we will probably have to get rid of all your body and leg hair." "Yes, I know. Rhianna said she uses a cream every week," Ben replied in a matter of fact way. "We'll have to do something about giving you breasts too, again depending on the outfit," Lucy mentioned casually. "You know that, right?" "I know. Rhianna thought we should be about the same size as we are also about the same height. She said she is a B something but would like to go bigger." It seemed that Ben and Rhianna had discussed these personal matters quite openly. Lucy would never have discussed such a thing even with a girlfriend at the age of eighteen. How times had changed. At 38 now with an 18-year-old son, she felt old. "Lastly, we'll need to get you a wig. Your hair is too short." "I know. Rhianna and I thought I could be blonde in contrast to her black hair." Ben seemed perfectly accepting that he would have to wear a wig. "It seems you guys have been thinking hard about this. I hope you know what you are doing," Lucy said a little concerned. Ben's willingness to do this might cause him problems. "Mum, I know this sounds weird but I really want to do this. Not only to support Rhianna but also to show I am not ashamed to be associated with her. I know it may not look normal but I think, if we look good, we will have the last laugh." "Ben, I love you and support you hon. If you have any thoughts, please tell me. I only want your happiness." Lucy and Ben hugged for a long moment. She kissed his cheek. "Get changed and go to bed. It will be a new day for us both tomorrow." As Lucy went to her bedroom she wondered at the changes in Ben. He had more self-confidence and seemed at ease to display himself in a dress, makeup, wig and heels in front of his peers. He had always been a shy, unassuming boy even in his teenage that never sought the spotlight. He never had any interest in costume parties or Halloween. Yet now he appeared remarkably at ease to appear in drag. One thought troubled her greatly: her husband Walt. If he had any idea of his son's desire to cross-dress, he would throw a fit and go on a drinking binge which would result in violence. He was not due back for some six months more and his occasional calls were more for show purposes than concern. As an army man, he wanted Ben to be manly and aggressive. The next morning, Sunday, Lucy awoke after a restless night. She had breakfast ready as Ben entered the kitchen. He seemed relaxed and happy. She didn't want to bring up the subject but asked about his training and homework. After a long pause, Ben looked from his cereal. "Mum, do you think I am crazy to do this? And do you think I can look good?" How was a mother to respond to a son who wanted to be a pretty girl? "Well, son, if you apply yourself and do all that is necessary, I am sure you'll be really pretty and both of you will turn heads. Remember my condition: you have to be the best girl you can be." "Yes, I know. Rhianna thinks I can be as pretty as her," Ben replied through a mouthful of cereal. Lucy thought it remarkable that Ben accepted Rhianna as any normal girl. She wondered if that would change if they went further in their sexual exploration. She had seen them kiss and it wasn't a light peck. At some point, it would go further. Ben left for his training hugging his mum. "Keep your phone handy," Lucy said. "We might need to call you." Jacinda and Rhianna arrived on time. They had done lots of research and had many ideas. Lucy listened to them startled as how they thought Ben's transformation should take place. The drive to the mall wasn't far and Jacinda suggested they have a coffee and quietly discuss what they needed to do. Lucy's mind was in a whirl with the ideas and decisions that needed to be taken. In a way, she was sorry that Ben was not there as he may have changed his mind with the discussions taking place. The coffee shop was not so full so early in the day. They sat close in a huddle so that the discussion remained private. Jacinda started the conversation. "So Rhianna and I discussed this and also how we could do this given time. She is a lot more enthusiastic than I wanted but we agreed. I don't think it will be a problem to get Ben dolled up into a pretty girl. He is slim, athletic and not so hairy. "Jacinda took a sip of coffee looking at Lucy's reaction to all of this and then continued. "Do you think Ben will be able to walk in high heels and dance in a tight dress without much practice?" Lucy looked at them. Ben was athletic but she knew that being comfortable in heels needed practice. "No, I don't think so," she replied. "He is athletic and could learn to walk quickly I suppose but he will not be able to dance well nor have a good female gait." "We all agreed that he needs to be convincing. So practice is necessary. Do you think he would wear some female items and heels, say over the weekend?" This was all rather confusing for Lucy. "He wants to do this and spends a lot of time with Rhianna over the weekend, so I suppose he would. He doesn't want to show them up." "Rhianna, why don't you show us the type of dress you guys looked at yesterday?" "OK," Rhianna replied. She had been quiet so far. They went to the dress store where Ben had enthused over Rhianna's choice of dress. Rhianna was quite enthusiastic. Jacinda and Lucy looked at the garment. It was beautiful and very elegant. The color would suit Rhianna well. It was available in several muted colors. "Rhianna, I assume you guys want to stand out. I don't think you want to stand around the punchbowl just talking to each other," Jacinda asked. "Of course not. I would like to dance with Ben and show them all what a couple we make." "Well, this dress is very elegant but hardly a dress for your age group. I think it is more suited for an elegant dinner and nightclub, but not for a prom dance," Jacinda stated. "Lucy?" This was all too much for Lucy. These were extremely attractive outfits but she agreed with Jacinda. They were for an older lady. "They are very nice but I can't see you guys dance in these tight-fitting outfits." "Rhianna, there is a great choice of outfits and we can even go to another mall. I don't think you want to look like a twenty-eight-year- old. Let's look at other outfits." Jacinda moved to other racks. Lucy tapped her arm. "Jacinda, can I suggest something? This is all new to Ben. Whilst he wants to help Rhianna and do this, he has no idea of what he is committing to. So, we now know what kind of prom dress Rhianna likes. Why don't we go to a thrift store, get a similar outfit and shoes? We may need to get a good wig and some underwear. Let him try it out. We wouldn't want him to practice in an expensive dress that doesn't work." Rhianna face lit up. "Yes, let me dress him up and see how he looks. He will be beautiful I am sure. I can buy a dress at the thrift store too and show you both that we can look good." Lucy was relieved. She didn't want to spend hundreds and have it fail. She still hoped that Ben would not like the bra and panties, heels and a wig and even makeup. She could afford to discard the outfits purchased economically at a thrift store if Ben decided it wasn't for him. It was a slim hope but one worth trying, "Mum, can we choose the wig I wanted for Ben?" Rhianna pleaded. "I guess," Jacinda replied cautiously. What Lucy said made sense. "We'll need to get appropriate underwear and stuff if we want him to see what it takes. He can't borrow yours." Lucy gave a silent prayer that a small investment would allow Ben to see what it took. It may cause him to change his mind. Rhianna might prefer a good looking boyfriend in a tux rather than a sister who wasn't convincing. Rhianna led them to the wig boutique. She went straight to the wig that she and Ben had seen online. It was dark blonde, full of curls and would match Ben's skin tone. Rhianna wasn't interested in looking at others: this was it. The wig was quite expensive and Jacinda saw the look on Lucy's face, "Wait, let me have a word with the salesperson," she said and went to the saleslady. It took a few minutes and Jacinda paid her with a credit card. When she returned, Lucy protested. "I don't have the cash on me but can go to the ATM," she said. She didn't have Jacinda's money but she could still support Ben. It was his prom too. "Don't worry," Jacinda replied. "We can settle later. I agreed with the girl that if my daughter did not like it in her new outfit, we would need to return it. She agreed for a small restocking fee. So if it doesn't suit or we return, the cost will be minimal. Let's go that large Thrift Store on Willow Rd. It's only a few minutes from here. Do you have the size of the shoes?" "I have his size, but I drew the outline of his bare foot. He will need the right width to be comfortable." Lucy was pleased she had thought of that. The thought of Ben wearing heels still vivid in her mind. "Mum, I will meet you at the car. I need to get something," Rhianna said and walked away not waiting for a response. Lucy and Jacinda looked at each other and walked back to the car. "OK," Lucy replied. "We'll be a few minutes as we need some underwear. They went to a large department store and guessed at the bra size required with matching panties. Jacinda recommended a size somewhat larger as Ben would need padding. Rhianna too padded herself when going out to parties in order to convey a very full figure. "Lucy, Rhianna wears very tight panties to keep her parts tucked away. We'll need to do the same for Ben," Jacinda whispered. It didn't take long to find two sets of underwear in different colors. Jacinda paid. "I want to pay you for whatever you buy for Ben," Lucy said quietly as they walked to the car. "I assume the dress will be expensive. Rhianna has excellent taste." Jacinda touched Lucy's arm. "Lucy, I know my Rhianna well. This was her idea I am sure. She knows how to get her way. Ben is so accommodating to her but they seem to have a great relationship. For that, I will always be grateful to Ben and you. We can discuss the costs later when both our kids are happy and outdo the others at the prom. Besides, my ex-husband and I agreed that he pay for whatever clothes Rhianna wants. He needs to be reminded that he rejected her. These are just additional items for her. It is definitely something that makes Rhianna happy and he needs to pay for. "Jacinda smiled at the thought. Lucy couldn't help but wonder if Ben's father would want to pay for Ben's happiness if he wanted to buy a dress and wig. Rhianna was at the car a few moments after them with a small brown bag in her hands. The bag had the mark of a pharmacy. For a fleeting moment, Lucy wondered if this bag contained condoms. Rhianna and Ben had plenty of opportunities to have sex and at almost eighteen it would be normal for them to try. Yet Lucy wondered how Ben was coping. She had briefly discussed sex with Ben and he had sex education in school but doubted he was educated in how a transsexual and a male would perform. Like all young adults, Ben and Rhianna would find a way to satisfy their lust. The large thrift store had every type of artifact. In the dress section, there was everything from floral day dresses, blouses and skirts, wedding dresses and lots of formal wear, even tuxedos. They looked at the prom dresses: most of them were above the knee and with flared skirts requiring petticoats. Yet others were evening dress style. After browsing carefully, they saw two outfits that Rhianna liked. They had puffed sleeves and a square neckline. They appeared to be matching bridesmaid dresses. Both above the knee with full petticoats. They had some colored embroidery and looked very attractive. The price was nominal and they appeared to be in sizes to fit both. Rhianna also chose two narrow skirts in black and blue with blouses in white and pink. Lucy wondered how Ben would look in a formal gown where they started, to a skirt and blouse and now a potential bridesmaid. Her mind boggled. They looked at shoes. Rhianna was driven to the high-heels. She took the paper of Ben's shoe size and measure it against the available heels. Some were very high in a variety of colors. Rhianna loved the heels. "My highest is only 3," she enthused. Lucy had that concerned look on her face. "What is it Lucy?" Jacinda asked. "Well, Ben's future depends on his scholarship. Whilst he will try, I don't want him to twist an ankle. The season will start soon and he must be able to compete at his best." "You are right. Rhianna, please select two inches for Ben. Even that may be a challenge. He cannot jeopardize his college." Rhianna's face fell. She looked at Lucy and Jacinda. A moment later she was back, "Great. If he wears 2" and I get into 3" or 4" then we will be about the same height." The smile was big. It took some time but two pairs of heels were chosen for Ben and 2 for Rhianna. The Thrift store even had large gold clip-on earrings. All in all, the cost was very modest but all went back happy. "Can we invite Ben over and try these outfits?" Rhianna asked. "I am sure he will look beautiful." Jacinda looked at Lucy. "Your call. I can organize dinner if you want to come to the house. I am sure it will take time." Lucy looked confused. She didn't really want to see Ben in a dress and make a fool of himself. At a certain level, she thought that a private dress-up session might put Ben off the idea. She fervently hoped so. "Why don't you drop me off at the house? I can drive over with Ben. That way it won't be a problem to get back home." So she called Ben and told him to wait for her. She would be home in fifteen minutes. Ben was happy to go to Rhianna's house and stay for dinner. Lucy didn't explain what he would be in for. "I'll text him to shave," Rhianna said a big smile on her face. She was excited. They dropped Lucy off. "We'll be there in an hour or so," Lucy said as she left them. Ben was eating a sandwich. He looked at Lucy. "Did you get everything?" "Oh yes, Rhianna made sure of that," Lucy responded. "I made you a cheese sandwich also," Ben replied indicating a plate on the counter. "Great, thank you. I'll put the kettle on and we can chat." Ben chewed for a few moments and as Lucy sat, asked "So what did you guys get? Did you buy those outfits?" "No. We didn't think they would be suitable for prom. Rhianna agreed and got you other stuff. I don't want to spoil the surprise. Let Rhianna show you. This is between you and her." "OK. She has good taste and will have picked something nice," Ben said confidently. Lucy was surprised. Ben appeared happy to dress up. "Ben, I need to ask you something." Lucy took a sip of tea looking at Ben. "I am very proud of you for supporting Rhianna. I just want to know that you are OK with this decision." Ben looked at Lucy with that open gaze, "Mum, I want to do this. I want to show these guys I am not ashamed to wear a dress and heels. I know Rhianna will make me look good." Lucy gave a wan smile. "You do know what you are getting into, right? Dress, heels, wig and makeup. I want to be sure you are happy. You can back out at any time. I am sure Rhianna will understand." "Mum, Rhianna said she would go with me to the prom whether I am in a tux or a dress. I should look good was her only condition. I promised her that and Rhianna will make sure of that." "What are your plans for the prom? We can drive you there and pick you up or do you have parties to attend?" "Well, there are some parties but we don't want to go there. Some guys were talking about hiring a motel room. You know what that means, right? The girls and boys get up to stuff." "Yes, Ben, I know. I went to prom too. It was many years ago but relationships and expectations don't change that much." Lucy left the statement hanging hoping Ben would share his plans more. Ben was silent, deep in thought. "Is that what you and Rhianna want to do?" "Maybe. We haven't talked about it. I like Rhianna and she is the best girlfriend I could have. She has helped me so much." Lucy patted Ben's hand. "OK. I didn't want to pry. But as you know, Rhianna is a special girl and you need to treat her and respect her as such." "I know she is. I am not ashamed to be with her. Mum, I won't do anything stupid." "OK. You better have that shower now. And shave closely." Lucy rose and put away the plates and cups. Ben hugged his mum. "Rhianna already texted me and told me to use that cream she gave me all over my body too. I want to do this," he whispered in her ear. "It is like a dare to see if I can be as brave as Rhianna." "I am sure you are and I am very proud of you. Go shower." Lucy wondered if she had crossed a line with Ben in asking his intentions. He didn't seem upset. She was concerned that things might go far in the heat of the moment and then make a discovery. Ben had no experience with girls and whilst Rhianna was outwardly all girl, she had some extra parts. Ben was almost eighteen and she couldn't protect him. She admired him for what he was doing but also worried about him. Rhianna greeted Ben very enthusiastically with a hug and a peck on the lips. Lucy greeted Jacinda and settled down on the couch. Jacinda offered refreshments and watched Ben's smile widen at the sight of Rhianna. "So mum, it will take some time but I will take Ben to my room and surprise you later. It may take some time," Rhianna said with a big smile on her face and holding Ben's hand. "Shout if you need help," Jacinda replied. "Ben, are you OK with this? No pressure. Rhianna knows how to persuade people." "I would like to see what Rhianna has planned," Ben replied. Ben and Rhianna climbed the stairs. Lucy looked at Jacinda. She didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She would have liked to think of it as a childish prank but knew it was more than that. "What's the matter, hun?" Jacinda asked. "You seem worried. Talk to me." "Well, I am not sure. Ben seems very happy to do this and dress. If Rhianna is going to help him dress, they will be expos..." "You mean Rhianna might see Ben's boy parts and vice versa?" Lucy nodded. "Ben has never been in a close relationship with a girl. He knows Rhianna's history but still...he thinks the world of Rhianna and only as a girl." "Lucy, they have spent time alone in this house and yours, right? Sometimes it has been many hours. They could have got up to anything. I know they have had deep kisses and it would be natural to explore. We can't decide for them. They'll be going to college soon. Ben knows well what is underneath Rhianna's dresses and she knows exactly what is in Ben's pants. Nothing is going to happen that we have to worry about. I think we have brought up our kids well. Rhianna is too smart to go there with Ben if he is not ready. Let them decide, I say." "I suppose, except Ben has never had a girlfriend before never mind one like Rhianna. His face lights up when he talks about her," Lucy responded. "Lucy you didn't know Robert before he became Rhianna. It broke my heart to see him so down and sad, with no friends and bullied at school. His father had no time for him. Then, when Rhianna emerged, she was also shy and had no friends. She was busy learning to be a girl. After we moved here and she met Ben, she has become a truly different person, happy and full of life. She dotes on Ben. If their relationship collapses for whatever reason, we'll be there for them. But it would have been their decision, not ours." "I know you're right, Jacinda, It is still hard." I have no idea what Walt would say if he should learn of this. He will hurt Ben and kill me. To be honest, we're headed for divorce and I may end up with nothing. I will protect Ben with my life." Jacinda gave her a big smile. "Lucy, we haven't known each other long but we have a lot in common. Robert, my ex, is a criminal attorney and seemed to like his trysts with his paralegal. I was a family lawyer and that's why I got the deal I did including this house. If you need help with divorce, I'm your gal. I was going to return to practice when Rhianna went to college." Lucy gave a rueful grin. She knew it was coming but wasn't ready to admit it. "I'll be calling I'm sure. We don't have much but I just want Ben." Jacinda patted Lucy's hand. "It will be fine. Wonder what our kids are up to? Should we interrupt?" "I'd like to see what is happening. It has been over an hour, but I suspect it would not go down well." "As you know, we girls need time to look pretty. It's only 3 pm so we have time. What shall I order for dinner? I am not a good cook." Jacinda smiled. "Why don't we go up and ask the girls how long they would be? We can drive to the store and I'll cook a pasta dish if you'll let me into your kitchen, "Lucy said with a sly grin. Jacinda jumped up. "Deal. Let's go." At the top of the short stairs, Jacinda asked how long they still needed. "Don't know mum," Rhianna replied. "It will take some time." "OK. Lucy and I are off to the store to get something for dinner." "OK, take your time," came the brief reply. Jacinda and Lucy looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders with small smiles. They went in Jacinda's car and talked about their lives and loves. There was a bond forming between them. Both had difficult marriages and kids that were very special. "I'll let you in on a little secret," Jacinda started. "When I was at college I used to go to parties where everything was available if you know what I mean. Once, I was somewhat tipsy and found myself in bed with another girl. Sorry to say, I don't remember much. The point is, it didn't change my taste to girls only. In fact, it made me appreciate men. But I picked the wrong guy to have a kid with." Lucy smiled to herself. "I had the same experience in college and it didn't change my views on boys." "See? So relax. Just know that Rhianna is a girl in mind and soul but not yet in body. One day she will be. Except for having kids, Rhianna will have all the attributes of a woman." "Honestly, if you hadn't said, I would have never guessed. She is a terrific girl and has helped Ben a lot." "OK. Let them surprise us. What are you going to cook?" Jacinda asked as she parked the car at the store. "I am not going to miss my son's fashion party. So let's keep it simple. A pasta dish and salad. Ice cream for dessert." Lucy sounded more cheerful. It didn't take long and they were back home within 45 minutes. Jacinda yelled out to them, "We're back." "Won't be long," came Rhianna's reply. Lucy organized the dinner. It wouldn't take long. Jacinda prepared some cheese and biscuits and opened a bottle of white wide. "It's almost show time. Let's make ourselves comfortable. Lucy and Jacinda sat side by side on the couch and nibbled on biscuits and cheese. They were halfway through the first glass of wine when they heard the sound on heels on the wooden landing. Lucy grabbed her phone and switched to camera mode. It was Rhianna. She was dressed in the blue skirt which only came midway to her knee. The white blouse and the 4" heels. She seemed to have no problem standing in them. Her face was tastefully made-up, with bronze eyeshadow, darkened brows and a very bright red lipstick. She looked like a supermodel. "Ladies," she yelled from the last step of the staircase, "I'd like to present to you my prom date and best friend, Bessie." She went back up the stairs and a few moments later two figures descended. The second girl was in a black skirt, pink blouse and had a head of blonde curls piled high on her head. She wore black two-inch heels and seemed to wear them confidently. Her face was fully made up with bronze eyeshadow, darkened brows and the same lipstick as the other girl. Both had huge smiles on their faces. Lucy's heart was pounding as she snapped away at the figure in the pink blouse. She was plain gorgeous. "Ben," she shrieked and got up. Rhianna put her hand out and stopped her. "My friend's name is Bessie. Ben is not here." Bessie and she came into the living room and Lucy rushed to embrace Bessie. She felt the soft padding of Bessie's breasts and the hint of perfume. "How do I look?" Bessie asked hugging Lucy tightly. "Baby you're gorgeous," she said. There was more to Bessie than the clothes, the makeup, the well-defined bust and heels: it was the happiness that radiated on his face. Or was it her face? Jacinda and Rhianna watched the intense hug. "You did an amazing job. You look so beautiful and poised, I am so proud of you," Jacinda said and also gave Rhianna a big hug. "Let's eat. Lucy cooked." They sat at dinner, Rhianna and Bessie side by side. Both were radiant. Jacinda poured them out some wine too and they cheered to having beautiful daughters and a successful prom. "You did a great job with the makeup," Lucy said. "Bessie is beautiful." "Well, YouTube helped a lot. Bessie was more than patient as I applied, removed and changed colors. I loved doing it." "The outfits match well, the heels too. So do we have everything for prom?" Jacinda asked. "No, mum," Rhianna replied. "We need to add and change somethings. First, what we bought doesn't keep Bessie flat down there. We had a struggle but got it right." Lucy and Jacinda looked at each other trying hard not to show their emotions. They had no idea what had happened. "Then, the pads I have for the breasts aren't big enough or right. We used socks but that is not good. Also, we didn't buy a wig cap so I couldn't pin the wig as the lady recommended. Lastly, I told Bessie that if she had pierced ears I have a lot more earrings she can wear. She likes the idea." Lucy's heart missed a beat. She couldn't imagine her Ben with pierced ears and long earrings. But, on further reflection, she had never dreamed that her Ben could turn into a beautiful girl called Bessie who looked very comfortable and happy in that role. Rhianna didn't wait for comments. "Bessie needs to practice some dancing in heels. So I think once or twice a week she will wear hells and practice dancing. Maybe we can do that after our maths project. Next weekend we should get the missing stuff and Bessie and I want to show you how we will look in our prom dresses. We won to win that prize at the prom?" Lucy looked at a smiling Bessie who had lapped at every word Rhianna said. The smile on those red lips as big as ever. "So, Bessie, how do you feel?" Bessie looked at Lucy and then at Rhianna. "Mum, I never imagined that I could look like this. It's an amazing feeling. I would be proud to go to the prom and show them there is nothing wrong with Rhianna or me dressing like this." Bessie's smiles in the last hour were the biggest that Lucy had ever witnessed. There was a truly happy person, eyes sparkling and looking extremely confident. Bessie saw the look on Lucy and Jacinda's faces. "I told Rhianna that we can go and get my ears pierced next week. I want to show them there is nothing wrong with that. I have seen sports stars, movie stars and others have earrings in both ears. I also want to practice and show them I can dance on heels although I have never danced before with anyone." There was little to be said after that and the conversation changed to what outfit they might look at for the prom. Lucy and Jacinda were reminded of the girl talk they had experienced during their senior year. "Tomorrow's a school day and you need time to remove your make up and change," Lucy reminded Bessie. "I can give her the cream and she can get changed at home," Rhianna said. "That way Bessie can stay dressed a little longer." "Rhianna go put everything Bessie brought in a bag and get her the cream etc to remove her makeup. Lucy and I will clear up." Rhianna and Bessie went back up. Jacinda looked at Bessie. "I am at a loss for words. Bessie turned out to be beautiful, confident and very sure of herself." Jacinda said when they were in the kitchen. "I can't believe that is my Ben underneath all that." Lucy had mixed emotions. Bessie was all that Jacinda said. But, was that her son in a dress and wearing makeup? When Bessie came down, Lucy noticed the smudged lipstick around her mouth which appeared to have been hastily repaired. Rhianna appeared to like Bessie and Ben. Bessie had the same big smile on her face. Lucy drove them home. She had come here with her son in the passenger seat. It was now a bright and happy girl. Was this the same person? It was a short drive and Bessie didn't say anything. As they entered the house, Lucy could not restrain herself. "Would Bessie like a selfie with me?" Bessie nodded and wrapped her arm around Lucy's waist. The image of two smiling faces was recorded. "Need help with anything?" Lucy asked hopefully. Bessie shook her head. "No, thanks, mum. Rhianna showed me how." Bessie paused, "I look good don't I?" "Baby, you're gorgeous and you look happy." Lucy wondered at the question, Ben would never have asked her anything like that. "Mum, I was surprised. Rhianna helped me a lot. I feel good because I look good. I want to show those guys that laugh at us that we will be the stars at prom." "I'm sure you both will," Lucy said. There was nothing else for her to say. Bessie's enthusiasm was infectious although in her heart Lucy had some doubts about the future. Would she ever see Ben in the same light again? The next week passed comfortably. Ben met Rhianna for the walk to and from school. Several times he met her later to get help with mathematics. These were mostly at Rhianna's house as she lived nearer the school. Because of the kids, Lucy and Rhianna, it had become common for Lucy and Jacinda to spend most of the weekend together. They didn't have other friends anyway. They alternated dinners. On Friday it was dinner at Jacinda's. Ben decided he would do his maths work with Rhianna and Lucy would meet him there in time for dinner. This had happened several times now. She knew that Saturday Rhianna would take Ben shopping after his track practice. Jacinda greeted her effusively and offered her a glass of wine. Rhianna and Ben were still upstairs. Jacinda called out to them to come down as Lucy had arrived. "We're just finishing," came Rhianna's reply. "Be down shortly." Jacinda and Lucy caught up on the news. They heard the sound of feet on the landing and Lucy looked forward to see Ben. As they descended the last step, Lucy gasped. Ben wasn't visible. It was Bessie, She wore the outfit that Rhianna had worn previously and Rhianna wore Bessie's. "We swopped outfits," Rhianna said as they came to greet their parents. Lucy didn't know whether she should hug Bessie or kiss her on the cheek as was her customary greeting. That decision was taken from her as Bessie bent and hugged her kissing her cheek. A bright red print marked the kiss. Jacinda seemed equally surprised. Rhianna and Bessie had big smiles and it was hard to criticize or ask questions. "I want to practice dancing with Bessie after dinner," Rhianna explained. "She has to be good in heels and a dress." Lucy and Jacinda had nothing to say except take another sip of their wine. Closely observing their offspring. The makeup was a little heavier and the pads on the chest a little bigger. It was not out of proportion to what they intended on prom night. Bessie's blouse was snug on her body and emphasized her bust. Dinner was a normal affair. There was idle chatter. "So what are you planning tomorrow?" Jacinda asked. "We need to get some things so Bessie and I want to go shopping and then hang out. Tomorrow night we promised to dress in those bridesmaid outfits so we want to do it right." "Bessie?" Lucy asked involuntarily "Yes. It would be easier to look at clothes with Bessie and she can try them on too." Rhianna had that big smile' Bessie was looking at her mother. Lucy stared at Bessie. "Are you comfortable with this?" "Sooner or later others will meet Bessie. I can get used to it. As Rhianna said, it will be easier to try stuff out. We want to look good." Bessie thought for a moment longer. "You feel confident enough? You've only dressed twice now," Lucy said with concern in her voice. "Yes. I think I look good and Rhianna will be with me. I can try stuff we like." Bessie paused. "Besides, it will be people I don't know." Bessie had all the answers. "When will you be done with your training?" Jacinda asked Bessie. "I was planning to start early and be done by about 10. I was going to meet Rhianna here around 11," Bessie replied. Jacinda thought for a moment. "OK. I don't want you guys buying prom outfits without Lucy and I being there. So let's plan to meet around 2.30 at the caf?. Then you can show us what you like. Get the other things you needed. Agree? "Yes," Rhianna said. "It will take an hour to get Bessie ready. So we'll have about two hours to look at things," "OK, Lucy and I will clear up whilst you do your thing." Jacinda got up and Lucy followed and they both cleared the table. Bessie and Rhianna went into the den and soon they heard music. "I know what you are thinking, Lucy," Jacinda said. "But I think if we intervene it will only make things worse. At the moment, whatever they do and plan, they inform and involve us. If we interfere, I am afraid we will lose the connection. That's when they will stop sharing and do things underhand. I don't want that. I don't think you want that either." Lucy nodded. "I never thought that I would ever see my son in a dress and makeup. It's a shock that he seems so accepting and interested. He was always timid. I don't see that now." "It's normal. Now he has a strong partner in crime. There is nothing wrong with what Ben is doing. Unusual perhaps but not entirely surprising given his relationship to Rhianna. If he had that interest, perhaps some girl in college would have brought it out. You wouldn't be a part of that then. So that is something to be grateful for." Jacinda paused. "When Rhianna went through her problems, I had nobody to talk to. You can always count on me, you know that." Lucy touched Jacinda's arm gratefully. "I know and am very grateful. And confused. It has surprised me that he has taken to this and his self- esteem and confidence have grown. I would never have expected him to accept walking into a shop in a dress. Am I that behind the times?" "No, my dear, your reaction is normal. Boys and men have been dressing in female attire since time began. There are many reasons for it. The ones to be concerned with are if that is how they get sexual excitement which sometimes can lead to them being abused. That is not the case here. Because of Rhianna's past, Ben has been confronted with transvestism more closely. I am grateful he has accepted Rhianna for who she is. But Rhianna is not a transvestite but a transsexual who one day may become a full woman. I know it's not easy to overlook but trust Ben. You have brought him up well. Whatever he chooses, you will always be his mother and love him. As I do Rhianna. I know Rhianna can be very persuasive, especially with Ben whom she likes a lot. She would never force him to do anything he doesn't want. Neither will she ever hurt him intentionally. OK? Let's see how the dancing is coming." They went to the den quietly. They heard a fast song and Rhianna instructing Bessie how to move her arms. Rhianna was swaying her body and Bessie was trying to follow. She was more awkward but seemed to be managing in heels. As they approached the entrance to the den, the song switched to a slow number. Rhianna's hands went around Bessie's neck. Their faces were close and it didn't take long for their lips to lock. They swayed slowly like any other couple to a slow song on the dance floor. Jacinda stepped back and yelled, "How are you guys doing? Can we watch?" "Sure," Rhianna replied. As she turned, she saw Lucy and Jacinda in the doorway. Rhianna's hands were still firmly around Bessie's neck. They looked extremely happy. "My, but Bessie looks very confident in heels," Jacinda said softly to nobody in particular. Lucy was watching closely as she saw Bessie and Rhianna in a close clinch. If not for Bessie's dress, she was reminded of her early dates with her then boyfriend Ron. But she was the one wearing the dress. "We need to get going," Lucy said. "Sorry to break the clinch." Rhianna and Bessie broke apart. "No problem, mum, I'll get my things," Bessie said. Still holding hands they went to Rhianna's room. It took some time before Bessie came down with a fresh coat of lipstick. On the way home, Lucy tried to engage Bessie in conversation. There was no lengthy explanation but short responses and a glow on her face. She appeared very happy. "You danced well in heels," Lucy added trying to establish a dialogue. "Yes. It was easier than I thought," Bessie replied. "Rhianna was teaching me how to move." "You seem very comfortable and happy." "Yes, mum I am. I look good, Rhianna thinks so too and I feel very comfortable in these clothes." Lucy had no response. She loved her Ben and it was strange to see him in a dress and lipstick. But she could also see the difference in his confidence and happiness. Would Bessie be a permanent part of Ben's life? Isn't this what she wanted for her son? The next morning Ben was up early. He was quiet at breakfast. He left immediately after for his training kissing his mum on the cheek. Lucy was left confused and concerned. Had the relationship with Rhianna led Ben to be interested in crossdressing? His personality changed when he became Bessie. Lucy busied herself with cleaning the home and was surprised to see Ben back around 10, .30. He had been out for about two hours. He looked sweaty but cheerful. "Mum, are you going anywhere? Can you drop me at Rhianna's?" he asked. He had a large glass of milk in his hand. "I have to do some shopping so I suppose so. Take your shower and get ready. I'll be finished by then too," Lucy said. It was a simple conversation but one she found normal. Ben had never been trouble in his teenage years but was now causing her more concern. Maybe she was the problem in worrying too much. It took some time and Lucy called out to Ben. She was ready to leave. "I'll be ready in five," came the reply. Lucy waited by the door, keys in hand. Her mouth fell open as she saw Bessie appear in the same outfit as last night. Her only makeup was the bright red lipstick. She had a big smile on her face and a small purse over her shoulder. "I thought it would save time at Rhianna's," she said with that big smile on her face. "She needs to help with makeup. I wanted to surprise her." Lucy gave a forced smile, heart beating faster. You surprised the hell out of me she wanted to say. "You look nice," is all she managed as they locked the house and went to the car. "So what do you plan to buy? Do you need money? I don't want Rhianna to pay for everything." "No, mum, I think I have enough. We don't need to buy much as we will wait for you and Jacinda. We want to get that wig cap and some padding. Maybe we can go to that Thrift store later if we don't find anything." Lucy observed how Bessie pulled down her skirt. She wore neither pantyhose nor stockings. "So what will you do if your school friends see you like this? Are you ready for that? They may be at the mall." Bessie paused for a minute. "Mum, I don't have any friends in school except Rhianna. Mostly they leave me alone. I am not ashamed to dress like this and be seen with Rhianna. I feel good and look better than as a boy." "If you want to dress more often we'll have to get you more stuff." Lucy wanted to understand in Ben wanted this to be a bigger part of his life. "I don't know, mum. I want to be as pretty as Rhianna at the prom. I will dress to practice but I like the clothes. It's different." Bessie paused. "You don't like me to dress, right?" "No, it's not that Ben.. I mean Bessie. I want you to be happy and I will help you any way I can. But this is something new and I am trying to get used to it. Not everybody understands that dressing like this for a boy is OK." Lucy looked at the smile on Bessie's face. "Jacinda and I will make sure you both are the prettiest at the prom, I promise." "Thanks, mum. I don't think I am weird for dressing like this. Many people do it and even on TV and films. Look at Rhianna, how beautiful she is." Before they could continue, Lucy was at Rhianna's house. "So we'll meet you guys at the caf? at 2.30. OK?" She didn't mention to Ben that this was Rhianna's life choice and she was truly feminine in every way. For Ben, it was a choice and it seemed to make him happy. Would it be a permanent choice? "Yes," Bessie said and got out of the car. She was walking quite confidently in those 2" heels. The Bessie that walked out with Rhianna was confident. Her wig was straight, her full makeup applied and a big smile on her face. They linked arms and walked to the mall as two girlfriends would. They discussed what they needed and where was the best store to acquire these items. They were discussing whether they should buy silk stockings or pantyhose. Lucy and Jacinda were already in the coffee shop when the two girls entered. As usual, there were big smiles on their faces and several bags in their hands. Lucy almost dropped her coffee when she saw Bessie. Two gold studs were in her ears. "You had your ears pierced" Lucy exclaimed. "Yes, mum. Now I can wear a lot more earring styles." Seeing the look on her mother's face, Bessie continued, "We also got some plain studs which I can wear to school. Nobody will notice." The voice was cheerful and without a care. "I have a lot of earrings that Bessie can borrow," Rhianna interrupted. She will look really pretty. "So what else did you buy? Did you see any outfits?" Jacinda asked to distract from the earrings. She had seen Lucy's reaction. "No, mum we haven't looked yet. We got the wig cap for Bessie and the lady was very interested in what Bessie is doing. She gave us a good idea on how to make some nice breast forms. We also got a bra, panties, stockings and some new makeup. We got Bessie's ears pierced too. Won't she look great? Can we go back to that Thrift store? They get new stuff every day." Jacinda looked at Lucy. "I guess. It'll be easier on the budget. Why do you need more stuff from there? You haven't used the dresses we bought last week." "Well, I've worn both outfits we bought. I would like to see what else they have. Maybe look at slightly higher heels too," Bessie said from the back seat. She couldn't see her mother's face from the back seat. It was another shock to Lucy. "Mum. Lucy, we would still like to see how those prom dresses look on us if you guys want." Rhianna said. "OK," was all Lucy managed to say. Jacinda drove them there. Nobody spoke each absorbed with their own ideas. Rhianna and Bessie wandered off to the clothing area; Lucy and Jacinda decided to leave them to select and went to a large grocery store nearby to find something for dinner. It took the girls around 40 minutes and they had a basket full of items. Outfits, two pairs of shoes and a bag of accessories. Happily, the total was very modest. Both were smiling and chatting excitedly. It was just 4 pm when they returned to Jacinda's house. Rhianna and Bessie were anxious to get started on their prom dress fashion show. "Mum, it will take some time for us to get ready," Rhianna said as they climbed the short staircase. "I will call when we are ready." Jacinda and Lucy carried the few groceries into the kitchen. "It's too early for a drink. Would you like some tea or coffee?" Jacinda asked. She could see the worry on Lucy's face. "Coffee please," Lucy replied sitting at the kitchen table. "Lucy, I know it seems like things are getting out of control but you need to be patient. I think Ben is enjoying his dress-up sessions and no doubt Rhianna is encouraging him. I don't see a way to stop them and still maintain communications and relationships. Do you?" Lucy looked at Jacinda. "I just don't know what to do. They are good kids and enjoy each other's company. Ben has been open and said he liked to dress up and wasn't worried about his peers finding out. He does look good as Bessie. I wouldn't know how to stop him. He will leave for college soon and who knows what he will encounter there." "Yes, I know. Rhianna talked to me about getting an apartment they can share. They will both be eighteen by the summer and I am not sure how we can control them. Are you concerned that he likes to dress or that he appears to be in a relationship with a transsexual?" "I am not so sure what that means. Rhianna is all girl and Ben thinks the same. He admires her very much and they have grown very close." "To be frank, are you worried that Ben may be having or will have sex with Rhianna? He knows who she is underneath all the female attire. Are you thinking that makes him gay or whatever the politically correct word is?" "Jacinda, I can only think of Rhianna as a warm and loving girl who has found a kindred spirit. I don't think of her as male in any way. Look at her? She is more feminine than many girls her age." "Exactly and I am proud of her. She is confident, smart and, dare I say it, sexy. Why wouldn't a boy want to be with her?" Jacinda paused. "Assume they had some sort of sex, Ben would either like it or hate it. Neither of them has any previous experience with the opposite sex. So, like we have said many times, we have brought up two good kids. We need to trust their judgment and love them for who they are and however they dress. Whether Rhianna goes through all the surgeries or not, she is my flesh and blood and I love her." Jacinda paused. "I don't want to go on about this but I think you appear to believe Rhianna is a boy in a dress, however good she looks. Ben thinks of her only as a girl. However he dresses, Ben's instincts are male. So they kiss and make out and may have done more. It's the way boys and girls of that age behave. I think it would be easier for you if you were to accept Rhianna as a female. If we had not disclosed this at the start, you would have found it even more disturbing to see a girl want to see her boyfriend in a dress and make-up. Enough lecture." Lucy stared at Jacinda for a few minutes. "You are right, of course. Ben is my life whether he is in a tux or a dress. I need to stop worrying and accept he will follow his instincts." Lucy paused for a moment her eyes never leaving Jacinda's. "I only want Ben to be successful and happy. With Rhianna's help, he's got that, and I should stop worrying. Thanks for being patient with me." Lucy gave Jacinda a wan smile and asked, "Is it too early for a drink?" "It's happy hour somewhere and let's drink to the great kids we have - and their great mothers too." Jacinda opened a bottle of wine. "Wonder what those two upstairs are up to." Jacinda touched Lucy's arm. "Don't worry hun. It'll pass. They are not doing anything wrong. Besides, we two have less to worry about: Rhianna can't get pregnant and Ben won't get a disease. Cheers!" That brought some humor to a serious conversation. Lucy and Jacinda made a salad and prepared the Lasagna dish they had bought. It would be a simple meal. They sat in the living room with plates of cheese and biscuits and glasses of wine. "How much longer?" Jacinda shouted. It was almost 6 pm, almost two hours into their transformation start, "We need to put the Lasagna in the oven." "Twenty minutes, mum," Rhianna shouted back. It was a long twenty minutes as the ladies pondered what to expect. Suddenly Rhianna shouted. "We're ready. Two minutes." Lucy's heart beat faster. The first person to appear was Rhianna. She wore the bridesmaid's dress and very high heels. Her face was heavily made up with eyeshadow, large false eyelashes and a bright red mouth. Her breasts were a little larger and quite prominent. The hair was piled on her head and kept her face free. Long earrings chimed as she took a step down. She was beautiful. "Now, I present my best friend and prom date, Bessie." Bessie came slowly into view. Lucy's hand flew to her mouth. She didn't recognize the child she had borne. Her dress was identical to Rhianna's, the same heavy makeup with large false lashes, and large earrings dangling from her newly pierced ears. The smile was huge, confident and poised. Like Rhianna, her breasts were prominent; fingernails were painted a color to match the lipstick. The heels appeared higher. "Mum?" she asked in a soft voice, "how do I look?" Lucy flew to Bessie and gave her a big hug. "Oh baby, you are so beautiful. I can't believe it. I am frightened to kiss you as I don't want to spoil your makeup." Jacinda also was hugging Rhianna. "You did brilliantly," she said. "You guys are going to be the hit of the prom. Where did you learn the makeup?" "YouTube and practice," Rhianna replied proudly. "Bessie is a very patient model. Mum, Lucy, do you think we'll stand out at the prom? That is what we really want. I think Bessie looks beautiful. Just look at her. " "Yes, darling, she looks fabulous as do you. Let's celebrate with some wine. "Jacinda poured out half glasses for them. "To our prom Queens." Lucy still had her arm around Bessie's waist. "I can't believe how beautiful you look," she whispered. She touched the earrings. "All Rhianna's work," she replied. She broke from her mother and sat next to Rhianna and held hands. Both had big smiles. "Well, we had some problems but we solved them. We need to get some other stuff but we're getting there," Rhianna said proudly. "What problems?" Jacinda asked with raised eyebrows. "Well, I solved it but Bessie needs a gaffe," Rhianna replied with a smile. "Gaffe?" interrupted Lucy. "What's that?" Rhianna looked at her mother and then replied, "Well boy parts create a bulge where it should be flat. So they make a gaffe, something like a tight panty, especially for that purpose. I gave Bessie one of mine as we are about the same size. I know it may be tight for her now." "What did you do for Bessie's breast forms? They look much bigger," Jacinda remarked changing the subject. She knew Lucy would have some questions. Rhianna's smile lit up her face. "The lady in the wig shop suggested we use old stockings and fill it with birdseed or rice. So we made some for Bessie and me. The lady's brother also dresses and this was his trick." "And the makeup? You've done a good job but it looks quite heavy. Is that the effect you wanted?" "Mum, I have never used makeup to go out to a party as you know. I saw many videos and tried to copy the style. We didn't want to look ordinary but maybe this is more than we need for the prom." Rhianna was still smiling and holding Bessie's hand. "Well, I'm no expert but we can get that fixed easily. The wig looks nice and is sitting quite firmly." "Yes, we bought the wig cap and I was able to pin the wig to the cap. It won't move even if we are dancing." Rhianna paused, a question forming on her lips. "Do you and Lucy think these dresses are right for the prom? We like them but we know they are bridesmaid dresses." "Lucy?" Jacinda asked. "You have been so quiet." "I am just admiring my beautiful daughter and her equally beautiful friend. Could we want more?" Lucy replied. "If you wanted to stand out, these dresses would do that for you. They are knee-length and with stockings and heels, would certainly get attention. I have no idea what girls wear these days to prom." "Honestly, neither do I," Jacinda stated. "Perhaps we should look tomorrow? Prom is less than a month away and you should decide all the little details soon." "Can we, mum? We want to look great." Rhianna's enthusiasm was infectious. "Yes, we can look if Lucy agrees. I think dinner should be ready soon. Girls, we will support you on this adventure. However, I do think you need to graduate well and not be distracted by this. You both have scholarships but they need you to graduate well. Lucy?" "Ben, I mean Bessie, has improved a great deal because of Rhianna. However, she must graduate and hopefully well above the required grade. I agree with Jacinda." Dinner was pleasant. The conversation was about how the class would react when they saw two beautiful girls, one of whom they may not recognize immediately. Rhianna had heard the girls talk in class and each girl was less interested in the clothes than the date they would bring to the prom and what their plans were after the prom ended. Most wanted to get active sexually. Talk also turned to what would happen after the event. Neither Rhianna nor Bessie volunteered ideas and the mothers were grateful for that. Rhianna cautioned Bessie to use the rinse for her ears and change to the studs at bedtime. It was recommended they wait to use other earrings but the lady said short term uses were OK. Lucy noted that to go home, Bessie changed into a skirt and blouse. The elaborate bridesmaid dress was hung up in Rhianna's closet. The glow on Bessie's cheeks showed how much she was enjoying the role. Whether this was headed into a transition like Rhianna, Lucy did not know nor care to dwell on. She was glad Bessie was happy. They had agreed to meet around 11 and then have brunch in the mall. The short drive back was in silence. "Ben, I mean Bessie, you look beautiful and happy. That makes me happy," Lucy admitted. "Mum, have you told Dad about Bessie?" Bessie asked quietly. Lucy heard the concern in his voice. "No, Bessie, I haven't, He hasn't called in some weeks. Do you want me to mention it?" "No, mum, if he calls, I will tell him myself. I am not ashamed of dressing like this. Look at me!" "Bessie, you know your Dad and I are not doing too well. So I don't think it will be a long conversation. He will try to call for your birthday in three weeks. You can tell him or not. There is no need to make that a distressing call." They were soon home and the discussion ended. Bessie hugged his mother and said it would take some time to remove the makeup and get ready for bed. Lucy watched him walk the few steps to his room. She admired her new daughter's figure and stride. Ben was up early the next day, Sunday, and went for his practice run returning by 10 sm. The only signs of Bessie were the studs in his ears. He took his shower and was ready in skirt, blouse and heels by 10.45. Lucy noted the careful application of lipstick and the wig. More importantly, each outing in female clothes was accompanied by a bright, confident smile on those red lips. As Lucy expected, after meeting Rhianna, Bessie came down the stairs with a little more makeup and different earrings. Her heels were the lower two-inch height. Rhianna was similarly attired. At the diner, they discussed the stores they had to visit. Rhianna wanted to go with Bessie to a special store that sold a variety of exotic lingerie and notorious in that mall. Lucy didn't want to make a scene but she was getting a hot flush. Rhianna saw the look. "It's for the gaffe," she said in a low voice. "That's where I got mine." Lucy was relieved. They had talked about it at dinner last night. It made sense. She was reminded of Rhianna's statement that she had taken care of the bulge. Did that mean what she thought? They went to a store offering formal wear. There were many different dresses, colors and styles. Most of them were long and very exotic; others were very revealing with open backs, some with split skirts that came high up the legs. Many resembled classical evening gowns and not necessarily for 18-year-olds. "Mum, I really want something around knee-length or shorter," Rhianna said. "I doubt the girls in our class will spend so much money on dresses like these." "Your choice, honey, want to look elsewhere?" Jacinda replied. "Let's go to that lingerie store. Maybe the Thrift shop will have new stuff too. Bessie, what do you think?" Rhianna replied. "Yes, they have a lot more choice and the prices are better. We saw dresses like these at the Thrift Store too. Mum, Rhianna and I can go to the lingerie store together. We'll be back soon," Bessie replied with a smile, grabbed Rhianna's arm and walked away. "You know Lucy, the way these two acted just now reminds me of myself at eighteen. I was probably not as mature as Rhianna but just as impulsive," Jacinda said. "Let's sit on that bench and wait for our girls. Feel a little easier today?" "Oh yes, thanks for that chat last night. Ben, I mean Bessie brought up the subject of his father. He will call as it is Ben's birthday in three weeks. I told him he doesn't have to share if he doesn't want to. Walt is not due back for another three or four months." "Interesting. It is Rhianna's in about 5 weeks. We'll have to give our girls a party. It seems Ben will celebrate before and Rhianna after the prom." Jacinda paused. "I think you should let Ben decide. He seems confident and, if he brought up the subject, I think that is a good sign." They saw the girls return with big smiles. "We got two gaffes," Rhianna explained. "I helped Bessie and she is wearing a new one now." Both ladies looked at each other with raised eyebrows. What kind of help had Rhianna provided? They went to the Thrift store again. Lucy and Jacinda decided to look around other shops and leave the girls to choose. Jacinda knew Rhianna would call her if she was uncertain r had questions. The cashier at the entrance recognized them and greeted them with a friendly wave. The girls rushed to the racks with special clothing. Fifteen minutes later they found some things but nothing that immediately grabbed their attention. They chose two more dresses for Bessie that could be worn to shops or for a walk. Bessie went to the small glass covered counter and saw some earrings she thought would match. Rhianna approached the cashier but had to wait until she had finished with the customer. After a brief discussion, the lady asked another assistant to take over and led Rhianna to a secluded area. Bessie followed. This section was the new arrivals. There were many different items of clothing, household items and many other things. There was a rack of clothing and Rhianna saw something sparkling that caught her eye. She raced to it. There were several dresses with glittering sequins. They were above the knee and square cut. As Rhianna held them up, the shop assistant, Julia, said, "Those clothes belonged to a lady who was on the stage. She was very fashionable. They are a little big for you around the waist but a smart tailor can adjust them. They are unique and, I believe, were tailor-made for her. I think there is a box with shoes and accessories too." Rhianna held the black one up to her and the red to Bessie. The smiles were big, Rhianna immediately called her mum and excitedly asked her to come over. Julia and the girls searched for the box and found a box with matching sequin-studded shoes and a small box of accessories. This was heaven. When the mums arrived, Rhianna had selected the two outfits with matching accessories and appeared very excited. "Mum, aren't these fabulous," she asked. Jacinda and Lucy admired the outfits and accessories. They did require some alterations. Held up to the frames of Rhianna and Bessie they appeared the right length. The former owner appeared to have a bigger frame and bust. The dresses were also lower cut along the bust. "I'm sorry, ladies, we have nowhere for you to try them. Also, they haven't been laundered and we don't allow trials. But if you are willing to take the two dresses, shoes and accessories, I can provide them with a hefty discount. I know they will need adjustment." The total of all the items was so modest that even if they had to re- donate them, it would be a very modest cost. The excitement on the girls' faces made it a simple decision. "Our dry cleaner has a tailor that does alterations," Lucy said. "We can go there. I think they are open Sundays till 5 pm." It had taken some time but she was now all in. She saw the excitement and happiness in her son/daughter and couldn't help but join in. The old Asian seamstress was more than happy to assist. She admired the outfits and took careful measurements of the two girls. She looked at the outfits and in her faltering English explained that the top was a lot larger than the girls' current bust sizes. She offered to sew in some padding discreetly but recommended the use of inserts to show the bulges needed to fill out the top. Both girls were very excited at this prospect. Rhianna only indicated that she would like both bust sizes to be the same. That meant that Bessie would need some different pads. The lady said that by the use of bigger pads, Bessie could match Rhianna. They left the dresses with the lady for adjustment and dry cleaning. They were to return on Wednesday for a fitting. All returned to Jacinda's home excited. The girls were anxious to try out the shoes and accessories. Bessie found the matching red heels higher than she had worn before and they were a little tight but felt she could manage an evening in them even dancing. Rhianna's shoes fit better. The matching earrings looked beautiful. Both sets consisted of three connected oval shapes with golden edges with black or bright red inlays. Each strand was about two inches long. It was certainly costume jewelry but the overall effect was fantastic. It was hard for the mothers not to be carried away by the enthusiasm of their girls. Lucy decided they needed to leave even though it was just 5 pm. If Bessie wanted to stay she could come back later, Bessie looked at her mother and said she would be ready to leave in a few minutes. She went upstairs with Rhianna to gather her things. It took over ten minutes and the fresh coat of lipstick and the smudges around the edge of her lips indicated what had occupied her time. Bessie had that big smile on her face as she descended the stairs with a small bag. She still wore those tight new heels. "Rhianna said that if I wore them a few times a week around the house that they would get more comfortable," Bessie explained. Lucy had no response. "Mum, can we talk?" Bessie asked after they had returned home. "Sure, honey, what's on your mind?" Lucy sat at the kitchen table with another cup of tea in front of her. She wondered if she needed something stronger. Bessie sat down across from her. "Mum, what do you think of Rhianna?" Lucy paused. Was this a trick question? Honesty was always the best. "She is a smart and beautiful girl and has helped you a lot. Why?" Bessie looked at Lucy seriously. "She is my best friend and we are close. You know she was not born a girl but she is a girl in every way." "Yes, she is. What troubles you, hun?" "Do you think it is right for us to kiss and do things?" Lucy wasn't sure what 'things' meant but she could imagine. "I know that at your age, boys and girls experiment and when they are close, do things. Kissing is one way of showing your feelings." "Do you think it is wrong? I mean if we do more than kiss." "Hun, I am not sure what you mean. Some would think it wrong if they knew about Rhianna. She is a girl and nobody needs to know anything more. She will tell only those she wants to. Her body is going through some changes. It is not important what I think. What is important is what you think. Do you like her? Do you like kissing her? Do you want to do .. do other things? If you like her that much, it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks." "Mum, I like her a lot. She is my best friend. I think she is a girl and my girlfriend. She is even Bessie's best friend. I like to kiss her as Ben or Bessie and she doesn't mind either. I think she likes it too." "Hun, I know it is difficult and I am very happy you can talk to me about it. As you say, she is your girlfriend and you should both do as you like - as long as you both enjoy it." Bessie went to her room deep in thought. Lucy sat at the table staring at her teacup wondering at the conversation. As she went about her tasks, she heard voices in Ben's room. He was talking to Rhianna. That was his sole friend. They were probably discussing the conversation. Around 6.30 Lucy called out to Ben for dinner. It was Bessie that appeared, dressed as before in the higher heels. Fresh lipstick glistened on her lips. "So how are the heels?" Lucy asked by way of conversation. Bessie looked up. "They feel better now and pinch less. Just like Rhianna said." Rhianna was his guide. It was nice to see Bessie appreciate her help. But she still had that serious look on her face. "What should I do after the prom?" Bessie asked. "I know everybody makes plans to spend time with their girlfriends." Bessie was stirring her soup and not drinking it. Lucy did not have an immediate response. "So what would you like to do? What do you think Rhianna would like to do? What are others doing?" Bessie thought for a moment. "I would like to spend time alone with her and do what other boyfriends and girlfriends do." She paused. "Mum, what did you do on prom night?" The question caught Lucy off guard. How much detail should she divulge? "Well, hun, things were different then. I went to the prom with Ritchie. We drank and danced and then went to one of the girls' houses." Lucy paused. "We then found corners and made out. Some went to corners and did more." For a fleeting moment, she went back to that time and place. After an intense make-out session, she remembered giving her first blowjob. She didn't remember much about that time but had given Ritchie the same pleasure almost every time they met after that. When possible, Ritchie had reciprocated in the cramped space in the cab of his pickup. She liked it. "I would like to do that too but we have no party to go to." "Well, have you talked to Rhianna? What would she like to do? She is part of this too, you know." "Yes, mum. We talk about everything. She would like the same thing." "Hun, don't worry. Jacinda and I can find a way to give you guy's space. I'll discuss with her. But don't worry." Lucy paused for a moment. "So how will you get to the prom? Shall we drive you? Pick you up?" "I've never driven in heels and I don't want Rhianna to drive us there." "It's not a problem, hun. Jacinda or I can drive. What else do you need to do?" "Normally, the boys are supposed to give the date a corsage. The date gives something back, but if we are both in dresses, what can we do?" "That's easy. Give each other a corsage. It is Bessie going with her date Rhianna." "Do we need to have dinner somewhere? There will only be drinks at the prom. Some teachers will be there too, I think." "I am not sure. I know some think it is customary. But people will be in their best outfits so they need to be careful of spilling things on their clothes. If you guys want, we can certainly reserve a table for you both." Bessie looked at Lucy. "Will people think it strange that two girls are dining out before the prom?" "Hun, why do you care what people think? They will see two gorgeous girls enjoying themselves. That is all that matters." Lucy looked at Bessie's solemn face. "Why don't you and Rhianna draw up a list and we can go over it and ensure you two have the best time ever," Lucy suggested. "I want lots of pictures of my beautiful girl. OK? And remember what we said that first time we talked about the prom. You must graduate well. I know things have improved but keep up the studies, OK?" "OK," Bessie replied quietly. "Rhianna and I study most days after school. It will take some time to change, mum. Meeting Rhianna to walk to school at 7.45." Bessie stood up, hugged Lucy from behind and kissed her cheek. "Thanks, mum." Lucy sat there for a few moments longer, her mind going back to her prom and all the preparations. It was a different situation of course. Still, whatever the situation, she wanted Ben or Bessie to have the greatest time. Lucy cleared away the dishes and decided to call Jacinda. "I had an interesting discussion with Bessie about details for the prom." "I had the same from Rhianna. As the event approaches they are getting nervous. She was thinking aloud about what happens after the prom ends," Jacinda replied. "We've been there. I think they are looking for a private setting to explore." "Yes," Lucy agreed. "I think Ben wanted to see how I feel about it." "Feel about them having sex?" "No, he didn't ask that. He was concerned about how the evening would end as all others would go to parties. Rhianna and Ben have no invites. But he wanted to do the things we did at prom I guess." "Well, after prom, my date and I partied and I don't recall all that happened. But he went home happy." Lucy laughed. "My experience is the same. I wouldn't have dared to discuss with my parents though.. that's new." "Well, we both have very unique kids. I can't tell you how nice it is to see Rhianna so happy. That's Ben's or Bessie's influence. It is a different type of relationship than you and I experienced." Lucy could hear the laughter in Jacinda's voice. "So. What do we tell them? They will do or may have already done things as you already said. So let's make it a great memory for both." "I think that is the idea. What time are you off work tomorrow?" I will be home by 2.30 or so. Why?" "Come over for a coffee on your way home. We can talk before the kids come back." "Great. I'll be there." Lucy hung up and thought about Ben as Bessie, the unusual prom date and what she expected. Could Lucy expect different behavior from Ben than she had experienced? Ben and Rhianna may not have any other friends but they were smart and knew what life was about. She had seen them kiss and saw a bond she had never had. Jacinda was waiting for Lucy. A pot of fresh coffee and some cookies on a plate were waiting for Lucy's arrival on the kitchen table. "So, Lucy, what are your thoughts?" Jacinda asked as she sipped her coffee. "I just don't know, Jacinda. I am excited for Ben or Bessie. I know he is all excited and looking forward to prom. I can see he is happy. Just wondering what it would be like some years from now to see a picture of Ben's prom picture as Bessie." "Yes, I imagine. It is a little different for me. When Robert was younger, I too dreamed of him going to the prom with a beautiful girl on his arm. He will be for sure but he will be equally beautiful as Rhianna in a dress. I don't think of Robert much anymore." "So do you have any ideas? We just have to accept them as they are. I know they make a beautiful pair." Lucy sipped her coffee and reached for a cookie. "Yes, we can't let our feelings spoil their big night. The event is on a Saturday, I think. I called my friend Cindy and explained a little. She owns the beauty salon in town. I made appointments for both to have full makeovers around 2 pm. It will take a couple of hours. We'll bring them here and get them dressed. That will also take a couple of hours probably. So, let's say around six they will be ready." "What about dinner? I explained what Ben told me," "Well, I am not sure whether they should go to a restaurant. I know you are a great cook so I thought we could set up a small dinner for them at this very table. We will serve them discreetly of course. Then there will be many photographs. We will drop them off around 8.15 so they do make a grand entrance. We will go out and have a leisurely dinner. How am I doing so far?" "Better than me," Lucy responded. "Now we come to the tricky bit. They will message us and we will pick them up. I think we should bring them here and have a bottle of something if they want to drink. I don't think Bessie and Rhianna are drinkers. But their choice. I will make up the spare bedroom. They can decide on where they sleep or when. If you don't mind, I would use your couch." Jacinda was pleased with her organizing skills. Lucy looked at Jacinda. "Do you think they will.. I mean." "Lucy, maybe you are not aware of this stuff. But remember, Rhianna said she had helped Bessie with the gaffe. This is a tight panty with a small pocket for the penis. When males wear it, it flattens the bulge. The balls go back up into the body. Sorry to be so crude. Rhianna does this when she wants to make an impression. Otherwise, it's just a tight panty that keeps things in place and flat. So, if Rhianna helped, she certainly touched Bessie's parts. Ben is a normal boy, so if a girl touched him down there, he would get a rise. What do you think might have happened?" "I don't know," Lucy admitted. "Lucy, if you touched your boyfriend's penis what would happen? He would burst in your hand or you would use your mouth. Sorry to be so crude again, but that is the reality. I've done it as probably you have." "Yes, I guess so." "Look, it's normal and whilst this is a little unusual, it is not a surprise. Rhianna likes Ben and her Bessie a lot and she would have certainly taken care of him or her. Agree?" "Do you think Bessie..." "Yes, almost certainly. Why wouldn't she return the favor? Don't think about it. It's their business and we can't stop them. Better with someone we know and like than some stranger, right?" Jacinda paused. "Do you have a problem with Bessie or Ben doing something with Rhianna?" "No, of course not. As you say, we can't stop it. My Ben has not much experience in that area." "Neither has Rhianna, I assure you. So they will learn together. When we were that age we also learned by experimentation. We didn't have access to the internet etc. They appear to be very happy and as long as nothing is forced, I will accept. Rhianna doesn't need a rejection to doubt her chosen sexuality. Bessie accepts Rhianna for who she is - even with extra parts at her crotch. Else they wouldn't be this close. Sorry to be so direct but do you agree?" "Yes. She has been the change in Ben's ability to graduate and his brighter outlook on life. He is so happy now, it fills my heart. I am so grateful to her. You are welcome to stay in our guest room. It is small but comfortable." "Great. Then we are all set. I am looking forward to it as much as Rhianna." "I'll talk to Ben tonight. I think we have to take them for fittings on Wednesday," Lucy said as she got up. "A lot is happening. It is Ben's birthday on the twelfth, a Thursday. Then he has his big track competition on Saturday. The week after is Senior Prom. Then a week later Graduation. It's a busy calendar. "Yes. Rhianna's birthday is some weeks later on the 26th. We should be planning a party for them." "You will see Ben before me as he still needs to do homework with Rhianna." "Yes, talk to him and make sure he agrees. He is the one who has the biggest challenge. He seems very confident but he needs to be sure. I won't tell Rhianna our plans till Ben leaves." Lucy busied herself until Ben returned. Her mind was in turmoil. She saw the changes in Ben and his happy moods and improvement in school grades. On the other hand, she was surprised by his determination to exhibit himself as Bessie. She was proud that he wanted to support Rhianna but would it lead to more? He seemed so happy as Bessie and perhaps it would be hard for him to stop. She was thinking too much about this. Ben's happiness was her highest priority and she would do all she could. Ben came back around 6 pm beaming. He dropped his backpack and told Lucy he would take a quick shower and be down for dinner. The Ben that came to dinner set her heart beating faster, He wore a tee- shirt and a skirt and the heels for the prom. He looked at his mother smiling. "Rhianna said to practice in these higher heels. I wore the skirt too because it changes how I walk," Lucy looked at him unsure if to encourage or be noncommittal. She remembered that she had promised to support him. "You seem to be getting the hang of the heels. Well done." After the usual chatter about the school day, Lucy wanted to discuss the plan hatched out with Jacinda. "So, have you and Rhianna discussed your plans for the prom night anymore?" Lucy asked casually. "We have talked a lot about it, mum. But don't know how we can do everything." "Well, Jacinda and I talked and we came up with some ideas." Lucy paused to sip her tea looking at Ben's face. "The first thing is to decide if you are fully on board with going to the prom in a dress. It is a big commitment and I know you have been thinking about the reaction of your class." Another sip of tea. "I am happy whatever you decide and very proud of you." Ben looked at her. "Mum, I am serious and want to do this. I want to support Rhianna. I got my ears pierced, am wearing heels and a skirt to practice. Yes, I will go in a dress and I don't care what anybody thinks." "Ok, good. It seems Jacinda knows the owner of this salon and has made appointments for you both to have complete makeovers around 2 pm. Then you come back to Jacinda's and get dressed. This will take more time but you both will definitely be the most beautiful prom girls there. We need lots of photographs of course. Then Rhianna and you will have a quiet candlelit dinner at the house. Jacinda and I will serve. You will then be driven to the prom. Whenever it ends, send us a message and we will pick you both up and bring you back to Jacinda's. There will be food, drink, music whatever you want and you guys can spend the rest of the evening together. Jacinda and I will spend the night here. You can call us the next day when you are ready to meet. How does that sound?" Ben stared at Lucy for a moment trying to absorb what he had heard. He then got up, rushed over and hugged his mother from behind, clutching her tightly. "Thank you so much, mum. I won't let you down." Ben hugged her for a few moments and pressed his cheek to hers. In the almost eighteen years of his existence, he had never hugged his mother in such a manner. Lucy reached up and pulled him to her. It was an unforgettable mother-son moment. Lucy pushed Ben to sit next to her. "So, what else do you need for Bessie to be perfect?" Ben looked at Lucy. He was concentrating. "Mum, would you mind if Bessie was here every night? I want to make sure she can walk properly in heels and I don't want to let Rhianna down." Lucy looked at Ben. He was very serious. "You like being Bessie, don't you?" Ben nodded. "It feels good and I look good, Rhianna says." "Yes, you do hun. You look beautiful," Lucy said. "I don't mind at all. I am proud you want to do your best. What else do you need? We can go and buy it and surprise Rhianna. How about underwear? Bras?" "Mum, I have one or two of everything. Rhianna has lent me a gaffe. But we could buy another bra and one more outfit. Can we do that?" "Is that gaffe comfortable?" Lucy asked innocently. "The one we bought is OK. Lucy's was very tight. But she showed me how to wear it comfortably. I'm not wearing it now." Lucy raised her eyebrows but said nothing. "Well, if you come home around 6 tomorrow, we could go shopping and then get something to eat." "Go shopping as Bessie?" Ben asked wide-eyed. "You don't mind?" "Why not? I haven't been shopping alone with my daughter yet." Ben hugged his mum again. "Thanks, mum. I need to finish my homework." Lucy felt good in the support of her son. He looked happy. Did she really care if he dressed in jeans or a dress? It didn't matter. Lucy decided she needed to dispel her doubts and embrace Ben's ideas and confidence. She thought she needed to make a call to Ms. Jamieson, Ben's teacher. The following evening Ben came home a little earlier. He had his shower and by 6.30 Bessie came out. It was the same white blouse with her bra providing the obvious bust, the slim skirt and the 2" heels. She had a hint of shadow and the bright red lipstick. The drop earrings hung from her ears and the wig was sitting firmly on her head. She appeared to be a shy girl out to shop with her mother. "You look beautiful, hun. I'm so happy to go shopping with my daughter," Lucy said linking arms with Bessie whose face bore a big smile. "Can we go to the Thrift Store? They are friendly and don't worry about me. I can't try things out except shoes but the prices are very cheap," Bessie stated. "They also have some nice accessories." Lucy beamed. Despite her reservations, it was an unusual pleasure to go shopping with her 'daughter'. "Mum, it is Rhianna's birthday later this month. What can I buy her?" "Do you have any ideas? It is your birthdays soon too, you know. Jacinda wants to give you both a party." "Rhianna said she is going to buy me something nice that I will like. She won't tell me it is a surprise." An hour later they had bought two more tight skirts with suitable blouses and a multi-colored dress. Some shoes 2" were added. Bessie found some nice earrings, a small gold-plated bracelet and a slim watch. She was very please and smiled all evening. They ate at a diner and nobody saw anything other than a mother and daughter enjoying dinner. Bessie repaired her lipstick several times and Lucy admired her confidence and poise. This was a new experience and she was enjoying it. "Rhianna will get a big surprise tomorrow," Bessie said happily. Lucy couldn't believe the calm in the voice of her new daughter. From the time of breakfast, Ben appeared excited. He knew that they would be trying on their amended prom outfits. He rushed off at 7.30 am to meet Rhianna at 7.45 as usual. That afternoon Ben was back early, homework forgotten. He had persuaded Rhianna that he would meet her around 5 pm to change. He arrived back around 3.30 and flew to his room to shower. Lucy admired his dedication to the task. At almost 5 pm or so Bessie appeared in the multicolored dress. She was fully dressed, made up with lipstick and a little blush. She was wearing 2" heels. Bessie obviously needed Lucy's approval. "Sorry, hun, you look great. But.." Lucy responded. "What?" Bessie asked. "Don't you like the outfit?" "No, hun, I told you. The dress looks fabulous on you. Except, I think it might be difficult to undress to try on the prom outfit. So perhaps the skirt is best." Bessie looked at her and was momentarily despondent. "You're right. I need a few minutes to change. I want to try that brown skirt and beige top." Bessie rushed off to Lucy's astonishment. There was no protest or discussion. Ten minutes later a different Bessie appeared. "That also looks good, and much more practical. You can surprise Rhianna with ight be difficult to undress to try blush. He wore 2"fits.enjoying dinnethe dress some other time." Bessie looked like a normal girl. They drove to Rhianna's in silence. Just as they entered the house Rhianna flew out and embraced Bessie. "Wow, you bought stuff without me," she pouted. Bessie's answer was muffled as Rhianna pressed her lips firmly to Bessie's. After a few minutes, Jacinda interrupted. "Girl, the seamstress is waiting. " There was a smile on her face as she saw the two girls separate. "Just need to fix our faces, mum. Two minutes," Rhianna said and dragged Bessie upstairs. They came down some 10 minutes later, lipstick refreshed. Lucy also noted that Bessie's breasts were fuller as were Rhianna's. Rhianna noticed Lucy's observation. "We wanted the dresses to fit perfectly," she said with a smile. There was no chatter as they drove to the seamstress. She was about to close and rushed them in. Both dresses were on hangers. Rhianna and Nessie looked at the dresses and held them to their bodies. "I don't have changing room but you can use the area behind those racks," the seamstress said. Bessie and Rhianna rushed there. Lucy and Jacinda chatted to the seamstress who assured them it would be a good fit. S fee minutes later, the two girls appeared. Their faces showed their happiness. The extra padding filled out the top neatly and the dresses hung beautifully. Both girls looked stunning. Lucy and Jacinda couldn't help but admire their offspring. They would certainly be the "Belles of the Ball". "Very good. I close now, "the seamstress said. "Please change." Reluctantly the girls went back and changed into their regular outfits as Jacinda settled the bill. In total, it was very modest and about one- third of what a prom dress would have cost. The next day was school so they had to make it an early night. Lucy and Jacinda could see the excitement in Rhianna and Bessie. As the days went by, Lucy saw Bessie every night. She dressed modestly and except for a smear of lipstick, did not go overboard. Bessie was also getting more comfortable in heels and Lucy admired how quickly Bessie had developed a natural female stride in the 3" heels. She knew that Rhianna and Bessie also spent weekends practicing dancing. It was inevitable that the greater part of the weekend found Rhianna and Bessie together shopping or just hanging out. Ben was rigorous in his training as the next weekend would see the state track finals. Whilst his place was assured, he needed to excel in this event. Most weekends, Rhianna accompanied Ben to the track and watched him practice. Sometimes, his school track athletes would join them. They stayed away from Rhianna. The next two weeks would be very busy. Ben's birthday was on the Thursday, the state finals on Saturday and the week after that was the prom. As it was a weekday, Ben's birthday was a low key affair. Early morning, before Ben was barely awake, his father rang to wish him Happy Birthday. He asked briefly about school and was he going to the prom? Did he have a date? He wanted pictures. When was graduation? Dad wished him well and was sorry he couldn't be there. Was he considering the army as a career? Ben replied he wanted to finish college first. It was a short conversation and Ben passed the phone to Lucy and got into the shower. He didn't hear the discussions but heard raised voices. This was nothing new and Ben ignored it. He knew he could not live up to his father's expectations. He expected Ben to join the army. Ben had no interest in this and had told his father so. Rhianna and Jacinda came over with presents and Lucy had baked a cake. Homework was forgotten as Rhianna took Ben to his room to show him his presents privately. In Ben's room, Rhianna threw her arms around Ben and kissed him deeply, her tongue probing deep. Ben responded similarly and they spent a long moment with lips glued. "I got you something," Rhianna said and gave Ben a gift-wrapped box and a small bag. Ben peeked in the bag and pulled out a black thong. "I thought you could use another gaffe," Rhianna said. "Open the box." Ben tore open the wrapping and opened the neutral box. He gasped. Nestled in two nests were two beautiful breast forms. They felt soft and jelly-like to the touch. "Oh, Rhea, they look wonderful," he said and kissed her again. "Thanks," he whispered. "Let's get you dressed. They will be waiting for us. Get undressed." Rhianna was business-like. Ben undressed completely and stood naked. It was not a new sight for Rhea. "I'm glad you kept your body hairless," she said stroking his stomach. Rhea held out the gaffe and Ben held on to Rhea's shoulders as he stepped into them. "This will be difficult," she said as she noted the bulge. She looked at Ben whilst her hand went to his rising tool. He looked at Rhea unsure. "It's your birthday. When a girl likes a guy, she does things to please him in a special way." They had used their hands before but now Rhea knelt and used her mouth. It was an incredible experience and Ben didn't last long. Rhea waited till it was flaccid before releasing him. She stood up and kissed him. "I liked that." Ben looked at Rhea and pulled her to him. His hands drifted under her skirt. "We don't have much time," Rhea said unconvincingly as Ben knelt. He too had touched her there and brought her to climax but never been that close to the rising shaft. "You don't mind that I still have those parts?" Rhianna asked as Ben stroked her. He looked up at Rhianna. "They are a part of you, aren't they? So, I do like them." He pulled down her gaffe and panties to her knees, licked the head tentatively and then took it in his mouth just as Rhianna had done. He sucked on it, amazed at the pleasure he was getting. Rhea's member didn't get fully hard but erupted in his mouth a few minutes later. He savored the taste, rose and kissed Rhea. "It doesn't get that hard because of the hormones. But I do produce semen," Rhea said softly by way of explanation. She turned around, skirt at her waist and showed him her perfectly rounded cheeks. "I'll show you what to do on prom night," Rhianna said turning around. "It's what girls offer their boyfriends that night." "I liked it. That was the best birthday present I ever got. Can we do that again soon?" he asked quietly. Her reply was a kiss with a softly whispered, "Oh yes. I want that too." "Quick. Let's get you ready," Rhea said with a sly smile holding out a bra. "We can use the new forms. You'll see. They feel natural and look great." Lucy and Jacinda sipped wine downstairs unaware of the happenings in Ben's room. They could expect Bessie to make an entrance. They knew it would take some time. "Jacinda, I had a call from Walt, Ben's dad, today. He wanted me to force Ben to go to the army. He thought that would be better than college. I declined of course. I know what Ben wants and where his interests lie. What should I do?" "Oh, hun, that's not good. I've only been around Ben for a few months. He is smart, kind and very different from what the army wants and needs. The question is, sorry to ask but I am using my lawyer's hat, are you still in love with Walt? Do you want to stay married to him?" Lucy stared at Jacinda. She didn't want to admit it but the relationship had died some time ago. "No. Not anymore. I don't think he can change. I can't stand his drinking and his wanting to get Ben into the army. When he drinks he becomes a different person and can be quite aggressive. Ben is eighteen and will run away. I don't want to lose him," Lucy replied softly. "Well, this is not the time. Come over for coffee tomorrow after work and we can talk about it." Jacinda reached out and touched Lucy's arm. "It will be OK, I promise. I've been there." "Here comes the birthday girl," Rhianna announced as she led Bessie out of her room. She was wearing the dress they had purchased recently. She was fully made up, had earrings dangling and seemed to have a rather pronounced bust, made all the more prominent by the belt tightened at her waist accentuating her curves. Her big smile with those shining red lips was captivating. "Do you notice anything different?" Rhianna asked the mothers. Lucy and Jacinda saw the curves and clothes but nothing was outstanding. "No," both said in unison. Both Rhianna and Bessie had big smiles on their faces. "I bought Bessie some nice silicone breast forms. See how they fill out her bra? We can even glue them on so she can use a strapless bra." Rhianna paused to see the reaction. "I bought some for myself too," she said with that big smile. "Oh Bessie, that looks perfect on you," Lucy said, trying to be supportive. Bessie had that happy smile on her face. She wasn't sure what would happen if they were glued on and couldn't be undone. How would Ben go to school? "Don't look so worried, Lucy. There is a solvent to take them off," Jacinda said. "Rhianna doesn't glue them on often, I don't think. They certainly fill out the top nicely." She didn't add that the boys at the prom would be staring at the two all evening. They enjoyed the cake and the evening ended early. Bessie didn't eat much cake. Ben needed to be fit for the Saturday track event. Rhianna, Jacinda and Lucy would all be there to cheer him and the school on. After work on Friday, Lucy visited Jacinda. She had spent the night thinking about her situation and what she needed to do. There were too many things happening and she examined her feelings for Walt, the marriage and what she wanted for a future. Her main goal was to protect Ben. Jacinda listened quietly, asking a question now and then. She explained the legal side of things. She couldn't advise Lucy to break up a marriage. She did say she would be happy to handle the case for her if she decided to pursue it. She explained the steps and what needed to happen. Lucy felt relieved that she had a knowledgeable friend she could rely on. It wouldn't be easy, especially when Ben left for college. On the Saturday, Ben left for practice early and then returned to rest. The meet would start at 2 pm but he didn't expect to be on till about 3 pm. Lucy dropped Ben off at around 1 pm to meet his team members. She wished him luck and promised to be back by two. She had prepared the house for snacks and a drink after the event. She had also made a late reservation at a small Italian restaurant for dinner. Schools from all over the state competed. There were more than a hundred observers in the stands, mostly families of the competitors. Jacinda, Rhianna and Lucy met up and watched from the stands. They saw Ben talk to Mr. Robson, the coach and then start his warm-up. He was entered in two races and the relay. As the races started, Rhianna left the group. As a student and a friend of an athlete, she thought she could get nearer. Lucy and Jacinda watched as Rhianna made her way down toward the circuit. She was not allowed near the athletes but stood near a low barrier that separated the coaches, sponsors and some students from the athletes. With a wave, Rhianna drew attention from Ben who smiled. Ben was due to start the first race, the 200 m, as predicted. He performed well and came in a close second. Around thirty minutes later he was in the 400m. Lucy and Jacinda observed Rhianna shouting to Ben and blowing him a kiss. The race ended with Ben in first place and they saw Rhianna jump up and down excitedly. After he had cooled down he walked up to Rhianna who hugged him and kissed him. The coach observed the action but said nothing. His star athlete had yet to run the relay. It was another 45 minutes before the relay started. Ben would be the last in the chain and moved to position himself accordingly. It took some time and the baton was handed to Ben a few seconds behind the leader. The exchange was perfect and Ben launched himself. He was too distant for Lucy to see his face but she could see him sprinting with a burst of energy. Rhianna was shouting him on but Lucy doubted Ben could hear her. It was over soon and the judge had to declare Ben and his team the winner. It was by fractions of a second, but enough to win and claim the trophy. Ben's smile was broad as he walked toward Rhianna after his cool-down stretches. A huge hug and a peck on the lips brought new energy to a tired Ben. Mr. Robson came toward them and patted Ben on the back with congratulations. Not only had the team won, but Ben's place at Mesa College appeared secure. He greeted Rhianna warmly quietly observing their interaction. The group congregated at Lucy's house. Rhianna had a bag with her and sat with Lucy and Jacinda whilst Ben took s shower. She was aglow and couldn't stop praising Ben's athleticism. It seemed she was more proud of him than Ben himself. Twenty minutes later Rhianna went to Ben's room after knocking on the door. Lucy and Jacinda looked at each other. "I think Bessie will be joining us for dinner," Jacinda stated with a smile. It wouldn't be a surprise to either of them. It was almost 7.30 when two well-dressed girls entered the living room. They were beautiful. Bessie wore her floral dress. Rhianna also wore a dress with a similar pattern. It was the first time for Lucy to see Rhianna in a dress. "Goodness Rhianna, haven't seen you in a dress in ages," Jacinda remarked. "Yes," Rhianna beamed. "I wanted to be like Bessie. Do you like it?" "Oh yes, you both look great and somewhat older than your ages." "Bessie, tell them," Rhianna urged a smiling Bessie. "Tell us what?" Lucy interrupted. "Rhianna glued on the breasts. They feel so natural. I can wear them till tomorrow night," Bessie said touching her prominent bust. "I did the same and now we have the same sized breasts," Rhianna said disarmingly. Lucy and Jacinda marveled at Rhianna's candor. "Oh," was all Lucy could say. Jacinda drove to the restaurant. The dinner was great and Rhianna was full of praise for Ben's athletic ability. Bessie was blushing and it appeared Ben was not present. Lucy had to admire Bessie's strength to remain so alert and happy after three strenuous races. At the end of the dinner, Rhianna got serious. "Mum, Lucy, Bessie and I want to thank you for arranging our prom night. We can't believe you would do that for us. We will do our best to make you proud. We really want to show those guys up." "Our pleasure. Enjoy yourselves and don't let anything or anybody dampen your spirits. Let's go," Jacinda said. As Lucy descended from the car, Rhianna gave Bessie a lingering kiss in the back seat totally ignoring their parents. Rhianna reached behind and gave Bessie a small bag. "Call me. I'll see you tomorrow," she said as they drove off. Bessie hurried in anxious to see what was in the bag. She opened the wrapping and a long nightdress fell out. Bessie held it up for Lucy to see. She had a huge smile on her face. "It seems I will be your daughter till tomorrow night," she said. "Wonderful," Lucy replied. "A new experience for you and me. We can have a nice mother daughter breakfast since you don't have to rush off for training. " She gave Bessie a big hug and felt the crush of their breasts. It was a strange and exciting feeling. "I am so proud of what you achieved today." The nest morning Bessie joined her mother for breakfast around 8 am. She wore the nightgown but not the wig, makeup and heels. Her bust was prominent through the thin nightgown. She had changed the earrings to the studs as recommended. The short hair made Bessie look rather strange, "Hi, hun, sleep well?" Lucy asked. "Yes, mum, like a log even with these breasts. They feel so natural. I didn't want to dress yet before my shower," she said by way of explanation. "Hun, you look good but I can fix that." Lucy got up and went to her room. A moment later she returned with a silk scarf. She tied it on her head with a knot at the back. "Much better." "Cereal or toast and eggs?" she asked. "Cereal is OK with some fruit." Bessie was trying to imagine what she looked like with the scarf. She helped herself to a glass of milk. "So, what's the plan today?" Lucy asked casually. "Don't know. I will meet Rhea later I guess and hang out." Rhianna had now become Rhea. Lucy hoped to spend a little more time with her new daughter. They ate in silence and Lucy thought it was time to talk. "Bessie, so are you happy with the prom arrangements? We wanted you guys to enjoy the evening alone. If you want to go out, we don't mind at all." "No, mum, it's great that you would let us do that." "I want lots of pictures of you both." Lucy paused. "Your dad wanted a picture too." Bessie thought for a moment. "I don't mind if you send him one of Rhea and me. I told you, I want to do this and if he doesn't like it, well..." Bessie left the end hanging. "You know he won't like it. He wants you to join the army. Did he say that?" "I don't care. I'm eighteen now. I want to go to college. Rhea is going there too." "Yes, I know. Bessie, I need to ask you something. What will you think if dad and I divorce? You know we have our problems." "Mum, it will be better for you. Rhea told me that when Jacinda and her dad divorced, it was mostly because of Rhea. Are you divorcing because of me?" "No, hun, because I want a life. Your dad is never here and when he is, he drinks and we argue." "Can I stay with you?" Lucy looked at Ben or now Bessie. "Hun, you are my life. I'd die without you. You are eighteen and can decide what you do. I know you will be independent someday and I am ready for that. But I want you to feel at home with me and be who you want to be." "Thanks, mum, so what are you going to do?" "I'll talk to Jacinda. Did you know she is a family lawyer and has handled many divorce cases?" "Rhea told me she was a lawyer but not what kind," Bessie admitted. "OK, Bessie, last question. What are your plans for college and housing? We need to make plans and I need to arrange for money." Bessie looked at Lucy. "Can I talk to Rhea and get back to you. We had talked about sharing an apartment, but we haven't done anything." Bessie paused. "What do you think of Bessie? Are you upset I dress like this?" The question took Lucy off guard. "You look beautiful." "Mum that is not what I meant. Do you mind me dressing like this?" "Well. It took me some time to adjust but it is nice to see you so happy and confident." Bessie looked at her. "What do you think if I was to dress like this over the summer?" Lucy paused to reflect. "What do you mean? You are now changing several times a week." "After graduation in two weeks, we will be off for the summer till college starts. I wanted to work and earn some money. Well, that lady in the wig shop would give Rhea and Bessie a summer job. But I would need to go to work as Bessie every day." Lucy's shock showed in her face. "What kind of job?" she managed to ask to hide her shock. "Well, it seems they have many men interested to dress as girls. They would be very interested to meet someone who is doing it. Rhea and I were going to talk to her today." "So, you would be Bessie all the time? I'll never see Ben again?" "Muuum," Bessie said in frustration. "I am not like Rhea. I like being Bessie but don't want to be her all the time. I like to go out with Rhea as her boyfriend too." "Hun, sorry, I'm trying to take all of this in. You can now decide what you do. I love my Ben and Bessie. Why don't you see what the job is and what it pays?" "OK. I better go and get ready. I'll call Rhea." Bessie got up and once again Lucy was confronted with the prominent bulge on her chest. Bessie seemed very comfortable with it. Lucy sat at the table, her coffee growing cold trying to absorb events and where life for her was headed. Ben appeared very calm and thoughtful and didn't appear to want to transition like Rhea. Yet he enjoyed being Bessie and Rhea appeared to enjoy and even encourage it. It took an hour and Bessie appeared fully dressed with light makeup and the two-inch heels. Lucy noticed it was the same bright lipstick, a light touch of shadow and a good lashing of mascara. She wore a simple skirt and blouse and had a small handbag hanging across her shoulder. She appeared poised and confident. "Jacinda has some errands to run and will pick me up in a few minutes," Bessie stated. "Do I look OK?" Lucy looked at Bessie, got up and hugged her tightly. "You look great," she whispered. "Make sure Rhianna gives you the solution for taking off those forms. You have school tomorrow." "Yes, mum, I have it already," Bessie replied with a big smile on those red lips. A few minutes later Lucy heard a car horn and Bessie hugged her, kissed her cheek and left. "I will call you later," she promised. As Lucy went about getting ready for the day she saw the bright mark on her cheek. This was Bessie's lip imprint. Ben had kissed her like that so many times without leaving a mark. Reluctantly she washed it off. She forced her mind to think of something else. Bessie called around 3 pm and asked if Lucy could pick them up from the mall. Within fifteen minutes Lucy was on her way and picked them up. "Mum, can we go home and talk? Jacinda is not home and will pick Rhea up later," Bessie said. Lucy picked them up. They were smiling and seemed happy. "So how did it go?" Rhea and Bessie looked at each other, big smiles on their faces. "Mum, we'll tell you when we get home. Rhea had a great idea and Angela loved it." "Who is Angela?" Lucy asked. "That's the owner of the wig shop. She is also planning a section with clothes, makeup and accessories," Rhea explained. "So what will you guys be doing?" "Mum, Rhea had a great idea. Every day in the summer, I will go into the shop as Ben around 9.30. Rhea thought that every day around 11.30 she would get me dressed and then provide a makeup demonstration. Customers can see how I transform to Bessie. Every day will be a new look. Angela has clothes, wigs and accessories." Bessie sounded excited at the prospect." It seemed innocent enough but she still had questions. "Who will be coming to these demonstrations?" "Angela's brother dresses. And he has many friends who would like to do it but have no idea how to choose dresses, do makeup etc. So Bessie will be a demo model. She will then also be able to experience many looks and wear different clothes and wigs. It will be fun. We will get paid a hourly salary and tips," Rhea explained excitedly. Bessie's smile confirmed her acceptance too. "We can also get discounts on products." "Mum, Angela said we could do this also on Saturdays when we are in college," Bessie exclaimed. Her eyes were shining and she seemed truly happy. "You realize that there is more chance of your school friends seeing you, right?" Lucy asked Bessie. "Mum. We will be leaving school in ten days after graduation. I won't care and besides," Bessie paused seeking words, "they will have seen me at the prom in full dress, heels and makeup. It won't be a surprise to them." "Does Jacinda know this?" Lucy asked Rhea. "Not yet. I told her we were going to see Angela about a job. She'll be here soon to pick me up." Lucy thought for a moment. She had no way to stop them. "Then, I assume we will be seeing you guys at least at the weekends." "Oh, yes. We'll be here." Bessie said with those bright red lips. "So, I guess I will only see you in a dress then. Are you OK with that?" "Mum, we talked about this. You will see Bessie and Ben." There was a soft knock on the door. It was Jacinda. She greeted Lucy warmly and went to the kitchen where Rhea and Bessie were seated. "So, what happened with Angela?" Jacinda asked sitting down. "Tea, coffee or something stronger?" Lucy interrupted with a smile. Jacinda looked at Lucy and gave a rueful grin. "A little early for a drink, tea?" Rhea explained the conversation they had with Angela and what they would be doing. Jacinda listened without questions, taking a sip of tea and occasionally looking at Lucy. "It seems Angela is quite a savvy business lady," Jacinda commented. "Yes, she has joined with the dress boutique next door. She thinks this is a great idea," Rhea stated enthusiastically. "Bessie will look different every day and I will take lots of pictures." "So, girls, I have some comments. First, it is Finals week culminating in the prom. So, study, cram, do whatever but graduate well. Lucy and I haven't talked yet but I need you to be aware of some things. I am not commenting on your plans. I will talk to Rhea privately first. I am going to put on my legal hat now. I'll talk to Angela myself to be safe." Jacinda paused, saw the horrified looks on Bessie and Rhea. "So, first, Angela cannot take pictures or videos, not use anything for websites or advertising without our express approval. There is too much of this stuff going around and we don't want anything to spoil your future careers. Rhea, you are the only person who can take pictures. Agree?" Rhea and Bessie sat there, close holding hand under the table and nodded their heads. "The other problem is how are you going to get between college and here every weekend? You need a car, then there is insurance, parking etc. Have you thought about that?" Rhea looked at Bessie. "We talked about that and we will buy a car with the money we will earn at Angela's. I also have some other money. We just need something reliable for the journey. It is about 30 miles to Mesa." "Other money? We'll talk about that later." Jacinda looked at the two girls, both smiling at the prospect of a job and oblivious to any difficulties. "Now, the prom is on Saturday. Let's make sure that goes well and we can discuss the job next week. Are we all set for the prom? Do you guys have everything?" Rhianna and Bessie looked at each other. "Yes, thanks mum, we're all set." Rhianna appeared set. As usual, in Rhianna's presence, Bessie was silent. "I think Bessie and I should practice dancing one night but that should be all. We can do that after study." "Bessie, you are quiet as usual. Are you happy with everything? This is your prom too," Lucy reminded Bessie. "The same goes for you re the finals." Bessie looked at Rhianna, smiled and nodded. "Yes, I am studying hard and looking forward to the prom." Jacinda and Rhianna left soon after. Bessie and Lucy still sat at the table looking at one another. "So, Ben, this is the big week where you'll show your Bessie side. You can always back out and neither Rhianna, Jacinda nor I will think the less of you. You also have finals all week and need to concentrate. OK?" Bessie looked at Lucy directly. "Mum, I told you. I want to do this and you'll see, we'll be the stars there. I am doing better and will pass. I can study more and have to get these forms off. I am not hungry. I'll come down for some milk and a snack later." "Do you need help?" "No. Rhea explained how and I have the solvent." "Don't forget to remove the nail polish too." Bessie looked happy and Lucy had to put on a smile. It was too much all at once. Finals, prom, the inevitable with Walt. Lucy sat down to watch some TV when her cell rang. It was Jacinda. "Hey, Lucy, if you have time want to come over for a coffee after work? Or I can come to you." "No, I will be driving anyway. I'll be there. I would like to chat too." If nothing else, the relationship with Rhianna had also brought a great friendship with Jacinda. Lucy went to bed early and heard Ben go to the kitchen. In a single- story house with wooden floors, it was not possible to walk without the sound of creaking floorboards. The next morning Lucy kissed Ben on the cheek and wished him good luck. The first exam was to take place. She watched him walk away with that backpack. He would meet Rhianna and be in school within thirty minutes. Lucy had an office manager position with a small trading company. The work was not demanding, her colleagues very friendly and she was paid reasonably for the hours she worked, She wondered what Jacinda had on her mind. She also had many questions about her son becoming a girl more often. Bessie was beautiful, poised and confident. Yet, under all that paint, prominent bust, dress and heels was her son. Would she ever get over it? Ben was happy as Bessie and even as Ben. Rhianna had been a very positive influence on him and had motivated him to be his best. Jacinda greeted her warmly and, after serving coffee and biscuits, sat down at the table of her luxurious kitchen. Lucy was mindful that despite the size, appointment and luxury of the kitchen, Jacinda rarely cooked. She had no interest and skill. "Lucy, before we get to our kids, let me ask you about your job. What do you do now?" Lucy was not sure of the reason and answered. "I work as an office manager for a trading company. 8.30 To 2 pm." She resisted asking why. "Perhaps you would consider this. After Rhianna starts college, I intend to set up my practice here in town. I need an office manager. Interested?" "Yes. The people are nice and they pay reasonably but with Ben gone, I will have more time. I will need a challenge to distract me," Lucy replied with a wan smile. "Well, the money will not be an issue. I plan to set up about a week after they enter college. Is that OK for you? We can work out details later." Jacinda paused. "'How are things with your husband?" "Haven't talked to him since we last talked. He will call to ask about graduation, the prom etc." "OK. Let me know. I've been there." Lucy left Jacinda her mind in a whirl. It sounded great. But her mind was not totally on the job. It was Ben who came home around 6 after cramming with Rhianna. She was pleased to see him and hugged him. "How were the tests?" she asked. "I think I did OK," he said softly. "I'll take a quick shower before dinner." He paused. "Can Bessie come to dinner?" "Of course," Lucy replied. "She's always welcome here. Don't ever think otherwise." She hugged him tightly. "Thanks, mum. I need to be perfect for Saturday," Ben said by way of explanation. Lucy watched Ben disappear into his room. Bessie would come out. It was a very natural Bessie that came to dinner. She was very discreetly made-up with a dash of shadow and the signature bright red lipstick. Long earrings dangled from her ears. The bust rested naturally and Lucy wondered if they were glued on. It didn't matter. However she looked, it was her Ben underneath. "Mum, what will you do about dad?" Bessie asked quietly after dinner. "What can I say? It will most likely end in a divorce. But I am getting ready for that. Why do you ask?" Bessie looked at her with those large eyes. "Rhianna told me that her dad accused Jacinda of turning her into a girl. Will dad think the same if he sees a prom picture?" Lucy stared at Bessie for a long moment. "I don't know. He won't like it. But Bessie is different from Rhianna, isn't she? She thinks, acts and wants to be a woman. That is not what you want, is it? You dress when you like." Bessie looked sad. "Mum, I told you many times. I like being Bessie but I don't want to be a girl all the time. Is that a problem?" "No, hun, it isn't. I love you however you dress. Bessie is beautiful as I've told you." "I know you think it is crazy that I like to dress like a girl. Until I met Rhea, I didn't have any real friends and neither did she. So when I decided to support her by dressing I didn't think how I would look. Bessie is beautiful and everybody thinks that. Now, Ben has found a new part of himself that he likes; Rhea has a girlfriend that she talks to about clothes, makeup and fashion. And Ben has found the best friend a boy or girl could have. What's wrong with that?" It was the longest statement Lucy had heard from her child. It showed a sense of confidence, thoughtfulness and self-esteem that Ben had lacked before. This was Lucy's problem, not Ben's or Bessie's. "Oh, hun, she said giving him tight hug. "I love you and accept you any way you want to dress. I can see you're happy. That's all I care about. Forgive me?" "Always, mum. I know there is a lot going on. I can talk to Rhea, You don't have close friends. Maybe talk to Jacinda," Bessie whispered whilst still in that tight embrace. "Yes, I might start to work for her when she opens her practice," Lucy whispered back. "That's fantastic. Does Rhea know? Can I tell her?" "I think Jacinda should tell her when she is ready." "I'd better go and study now. I'll come and say goodnight." Lucy watched Bessie go to her room. She was amazed by Bessie's statement. Ben had found his special friend. Lucy needed one. Perhaps Jacinda was the one. They had much in common. After a long week, the big day arrived. Exams were over and on Friday they gathered at Jacinda's. Of course, the party consisted of four girls. Both Rhianna and Bessie were relieved that exams were over and prom was going to be a culminating event even better than graduation. They went over the details again and Jacinda and Lucy saw the excitement in their girls. It was definitely going to change their lives. Rhianna asked Bessie to come over at noon so they could arrange their outfits and get ready to go to the salon. She reminded Bessie to remove all hair from her body and legs. They would need to glue the forms before the salon visit. During that time Lucy and Jacinda would prepare dinner. Lucy had a restless night. She wasn't sure why. She knew Bessie would be able to pass and with her growing confidence deal with anybody who stood in the way. Bessie and Lucy drove to Jacinda. There wasn't much to say, each deep in their thoughts. Rhianna and Bessie disappeared to Rhianna's room. Lucy helped Jacinda with the setting of the table in the kitchen with plates and candles. It was a romantic setting. All four drove to the mall where the salon was located. It was a normal beauty parlor day. Jacinda knew the owner and introduced Rhianna and Bessie. She discreetly explained to Cindy, the owner, what was needed and how 'special' Bessie was. Cindy looked at Bessie. "She'll be beautiful. Just wait. We'll have to remove her wig and style it. I'll lend her something to wear during the makeover." Cindy went to the main salon and came back with a similar colored dark blonde wig but which had shorter hair. The mothers drove back to prepare for the return of their girls. Lucy began to prepare a three-course meal they would like: one large prawn each followed by a small Caesar's salad. The main course was a small salmon steak. Dessert was chocolate mousse. As they prepared, Jacinda and Lucy were preoccupied with how their girls would look. They knew that each girl would be beautiful. The tanned looks of Rhianna with the pale color of Bessie already made a nice contrast. Jacinda had told Cindy to make them elegant eighteen-year-olds and not overdone tarts. It was almost two hours later when Jacinda received a message. The girls were ready and would be waiting in the parking lot outside the salon. Excited, Jacinda and Lucy drove to the mall. If it were not for the frizzy hair on Rhianna's head, they would not have recognized the two. They were just beautiful and somewhat out of place in a parking lot. They both had the biggest smiles on their faces. "Oh my God, you are a knockout," Lucy screamed at Bessie. Jacinda looked at Rhianna. "I can't believe how beautiful you both are. Wait till the class sees you guys." There wasn't much talk on the short drive back. As soon as they arrived, Rhianna and Bessie disappeared upstairs. "Call if you need us," Jacinda shouted after them. She was sure they didn't need her help. It was after six when Rhianna called out that they were ready. Lucy and Jacinda had their phones out as both girls came into view holding hands. No two brides could have looked more beautiful. Two gorgeous girls descended the short staircase. The smiles were big. Both had subtly different makeup but shared the same bright lipstick. They were elegant, stylish and decked out with all the accessories. Lucy noticed the bright red nails on Bessie. They were longer than normal. The ladies grabbed the corsages from the counter and ran to meet their daughters. They handed one to each and positioned them on each arm. Jacinda had a digital camera on a tripod and took pictures of each girl individually in various poses; then the two posing side by side; finally, she put the camera on auto exposure and took several with all four. Lucy found a moment to hug Bessie and whisper how beautiful she looked. Long dangling earringless hung from Bessie's ears. There was a subtle hint of perfume. The tailor-adjusted outfits accented their figures and thrust out the busts that were perhaps a little bigger than normal. Their legs were encased in sheer hosiery and both girls appeared to stand easily on their heels. "Mum, can you take some pictures of Bessie and me like this?" Rhianna asked excitedly. The poses were of them looking at each other and so close, their lips were barely touching. The other was of them jugging each other and cheek touching cheek. They were meant to be sexy reminders. Given the moment, It was hard to be critical. Bessie asked Lucy to take a couple of herself and then with Rhianna on her cell phone. "Ladies," Jacinda announced. "We need to serve dinner to meet our timing for tonight." Bessie and Rhianna sat across each other, much as two lovers would in an intimate restaurant setting. Lucy served the food. Jacinda kept the glasses full. They only took a few sips of wine and Jacinda poured glasses of the chilled Chablis for Lucy and herself. Dinner was a great success. Lucy and Jacinda went out of the kitchen discreetly allowing the two their private moments. They couldn't hear much talk. The young ladies went upstairs to repair their makeup and get ready to leave. It took some time but they came down with big smiles, fresh new red lips and small purses hanging around their shoulders. Each carried a corsage and they held hands. Lucy and Jacinda could smell the fresh spray of exotic perfume. "Ready, ladies?" Jacinda asked as they left the house. She had a small grip with her overnight clothes and personal accessories. It appeared the party was in full swing as they arrived in the school. Lucy and Jacinda desperately wanted to watch the entrance of their two daughters. All entrances were sealed and only the guard was at the door. They saw them sashay into the corridor which led to the hall. "It brings back memories of my prom. Let's go eat before I embarrass myself," Jacinda said. Over dinner, Jacinda and Lucy talked little about their girls although it was at the forefront of their thoughts. Jacinda described the breakup of her marriage and confirmed what Rhianna had told Bessie about her father's attitude to her changing gender. Rhianna was a transsexual; Bessie was a crossdresser or transvestite. Everyone used these words interchangeably. Jacinda explained the differences. Rhianna was more female than many girls her age as she always strived to be better. For Ben it was fun at first, then he likes to transform to Bessie with Rhianna's encouragement as he, sorry she, looks great. But he has exhibited no signs he wants to change gender. As Jacinda explained, many married men liked to dress as women because of the colors, textures and designs of female clothes. She also pointed out that all crossdressers are not gay; many lived very happy heterosexual lives especially if the partner was sympathetic. Of course, some did it for sexual thrills and without the knowledge of their partner. This was all new to Lucy as she tried to understand Ben better. She tried not to put a label on the relationship between Rhianna and Ben/Bessie. "Lucy, I can imagine what is going through your mind. I think it would be easier if you thought of Rhianna only as a girl. She is certainly acting more feminine than I was at that age - and certainly looks beautiful." Jacinda drank a sip of wine. "For Ben it is fun. It may last, it may not. In college they will meet others and who knows?" Lucy also took a sip of wine. "I know that I am the problem. Ben has no problems and likes Rhianna a lot. He respects her and the changes in Ben / Bessie are incredible. He is more confident and very happy. I am grateful for that." "Let's go back to your place. I don't want to drink more now." Jacinda waved for the bill. "Let me pay this," Lucy said. "You both have done so much for Ben." Jacinda put her hand on Lucy's. "No, the pleasure is all mine. I'll pay. After those difficult early years and until recently, it is also incredible for me to see Rhianna turn into a very feminine, loving and open-minded girl. I think Ben's acceptance of her, his respect and fondness have helped Rhianna to develop. She will soon have to choose how far she wants to go with her transition. She will be eighteen soon." They drove to Lucy's where Jacinda was to stay the night. They didn't have long to wait when Jacinda received a text message. It was winding down and they would be outside in fifteen minutes. Jacinda and Lucy drove to the school to the front entrance. There was a sprinkling of students. They saw Rhianna and Bessie in a lip lock ignoring the world around them. Jacinda gave a brief tap to the car horn to get their attention. They quickly broke the kiss and got in. "So, how was the prom?" Lucy and Jacinda asked almost in chorus. "OK," came Rhianna's muted response. "Mum, they loved us," Bessie said excitedly. From the moment we entered we were the center of attraction. We got asked to dance so many times by boys and girls we were not able to sit for long. The girls wanted to know who did my makeup. It was fantastic. Nobody said anything about how I was dressed." Bessie was holding Rhianna's hand. "Ms. Jamieson and Mr. Robson were there and congratulated us. Everybody clapped as Rhea and I did the last dance together." For Bessie, this was a long speech in front of Rhianna. Normally, it was she who would lead the conversation whilst Bessie just sat there. Jacinda noticed this and asked Rhianna, "Hun, was everything OK? You are so quiet?" "Everything was great, mum. I am just a little tired after so much dancing. Bessie is much fitter than me even in heels." "Well, you guys have time to relax and enjoy. Call us when you want us to come by in the morning." As the girls got out, so did Jacinda and Lucy who hugged their daughters tightly and told them to have fun. They then drove back to Lucy's house. "I have a little cognac left. Would you join me?" Lucy asked. "I need it." Jacinda smiled. "Of course. I'm not expecting them to call before late morning at the earliest." Lucy's mind went back to her beautiful Bessie. She had seen them kissing and knew tonight they could or would go much further. Memories of her prom night flashed back at her. "To our great kids," Lucy toasted. "I'm sure they are having fun." Shortly after that, they retired to their rooms. Jacinda felt something had changed in Rhianna, but it wasn't Bessie. As far as she could tell, Bessie had a great time. It would certainly come out when they were alone. Lucy had a restless night. It wasn't often that a parent knew when her child would be having his or her full sexual experience. Perhaps it had happened before but she didn't think so. They had definitely gone beyond kissing. She was up early and went to the kitchen to make coffee. It was barely 7.30 am As the coffee percolated her cell phone rang. She looked at the caller IG and saw that it was Walt. It was unusual for him to call this early. She was tempted to send the call to voicemail but knew that it might be important. Walt would persist until he got through. She answered the phone "Lucy?" were the first words she heard. "Yes, Walt?" she replied. "You f**** bitch, what have you done to Ben? You're no.." "Walt, calm down, What are you talking about?" As on many occasions, she knew he was more than half drunk. "Did you see Ben's prom picture? How could you let him go to the prom dressed like that? You..." "Walt, stop it. I didn't do anything. It was Ben's choice to support his girlfriend." "Are you sure that wasn't another boy? What the hell were you thinking to turn my son gay?" "Walt...," Lucy began and found a touch on her shoulder. It was Jacinda, who moved and poured out two cups of coffee. She placed one in front of Lucy who looked up, put the phone down and turned on the speakerphone. Walt was still raving and screaming obscenities. "Stop," Jacinda commanded in an authoritative tone. My name is Jacinda and I am a friend of Lucy's." For a moment there was silence. Walt was shocked to hear someone in the house at 7.30 am. "Who are you?" he shouted. "Are you sleeping with Lucy? Has she become gay and turned my son gay?" "Walt, I don't know you but you should shut up for a moment and listen. What are you talking about? You've upset Lucy. I am here because my daughter went to the prom with your son." "Son? My son wouldn't wear a dress to a prom. What kind of girl would want her date in a dress?" "Walt, you hush right now. It's my daughter you are talking about. Your son is smart and knows what he wants. He has respect for others. My beautiful daughter respects Ben and if they decided to do this, it is their decision." "Ben would never have done this if I was home. Lucy is a b.." "Walt, shut up." This was Lucy now finding her voice. "I don't want to hear this. Don't come back. I'm filing for divorce. " Lucy hung up the phone and looked at Jacinda. Tears were starting to form. Jacinda rose and hugged Lucy. They stayed that way for a few moments. The phone rang twice. It was Walt but Lucy did not answer. "I assume Ben sent him the picture?" Jacinda stated. "Yes, Walt asked for it when he called for the birthday." "I admire Ben for his bravery. I am sure he knew what kind of reaction he would get. He's not only smart, he's also strong. One more reason that Rhianna likes him a lot." "Ben talked to me about it. He did say he would tell his father if it came to that. He didn't want me to mention it." "Jacinda, I meant it. I want to file for divorce. We don't have much and Ben is over eighteen. I have no idea what to do." "I can tell you exactly what we need to do. Go take a hot shower, get changed and have a good breakfast. Meet you back here in thirty. I'll use Ben's bathroom. Lucy had a small en-suite." They went to a small caf? that served a hot breakfast. Jacinda ordered Huevos Rancheros for both and a pot of coffee. "I would have liked a Bloody Mary but it's just gone 9. Have to hold back," Jacinda said with a rueful smile. "Coffee will have to do." They didn't talk much at breakfast. Lucy's mind was on what Ben had done that night and what her emotional outbursts and threats of divorce to Walt would mean for her. Jacinda patted her arm. "We'll go for a walk in the park and can talk more freely. I don't think our girls will be calling anytime soon." They walked to the small park nearby. There weren't many people around on this Sunday morning. "So, Lucy, tell me your thoughts. You can't decide these things in the heat of a moment," Jacinda stated. "We have talked about this. We haven't got on for some time. When he is home, all he wants is to drink and have sex. I provide what I can but can't do this anymore. You heard him earlier. He will blame me for Bessie for the rest of my life. He doesn't stop to think." Lucy paused. "I know he is a combat zone and it can't be easy. I accept he has to be away for months, But that should make it even easier when he is home. I really am done." "Lucy, I have been in a similar position. I understand. Let's discuss it again at the end of the week. Once we start, no turning back. So think hard. I am always available to talk." Jacinda touched Lucy's arm in a gesture of warmth and friendship. "How do you think the girls are doing? I expected them to call by now," Lucy said. "Well, if I had the run of the house and had my boyfriend next to me and carte blanche, I'd take my time too. Who knows when they will have this same opportunity again?" "I guess. I hope they got on." "Lucy, I don't think you appreciate the situation. Why would you rush to call your mum? To be crude, you'd go another round. Besides, they probably didn't get to bed till the early hours. We dropped them off after 11 pm." "I suppose." . "Don't worry. They'll call soon. They are both level-headed kids," Jacinda comforted Lucy. The call came around noon. Jacinda and Lucy drove in separate cars so that Lucy could drive back. Each was thinking of what their daughter would be saying. Both mothers were very surprised to see Rhianna and Ben sitting side by side at the kitchen table. Lucy's heart missed a beat to see her son sitting at the table with his beautiful girlfriend. Was this a dream? No sign of Bessie. Jacinda observed the scene and smiled. She knew her daughter and suspected that there was more to this. Rhianna and Ben were in the kitchen, sitting next to each other, with orange juices. Lucy and Jacinda hugged their child and sat down. Ben and Rhianna looked like any other eighteen-year-old pair. Jacinda put on some coffee and looked at Rhianna. "So, now, tell us all that happened last night from the moment you both walked into the prom," Jacinda asked. She didn't mention she thought Rhianna had not looked happy when they were picked up. Rhianna looked at Ben. "When we walked in, everybody was surprised. They thought we were gate crashers. Ms. Jamieson and Mr. Robson greeted us and then the room started to buzz. Everyone was staring at us:" "That sounds like what you wanted," Jacinda stated. "Yes, and then they all crowded around us asking us so many questions. Where did we buy the dresses, who did the makeup? They didn't recognize Bessie at first. Then, when they found out, they went nuts. They were surprised and seemed to accept it." "How did you like it, Ben?" Lucy asked "I was surprised that nobody made any remarks about me wearing a dress. I think they liked Bessie." As usual, it was a soft reply. "Oh, yes. They liked Bessie," Rhianna started with a changed tone. "All the boys wanted to talk to us and dance with us. I think I only got four dances with Bessie. I made sure I got the first and last dance though," Rhianna said, a smile back on her face. "All of them were pigs. Even though they saw Bessie and I come in together. All the boys and some girls even wanted dates with us. I mean, they came with their prom dates but wanted our numbers so could call us after." Jacinda smiled. "But that is what you wanted, wasn't it? You practiced with the clothes, makeup and dancing so you both would stand out. Why were you surprised? You both achieved exactly what you wanted." Rhianna scowled. "I didn't like the boys and some girls even dancing with me or Bessie. I made sure everybody knew she was mine. I showed her also when we came back." A small smile appeared on Rhianna at the thought. "It seems you were both in high demand. You won't have that issue again as prom is over." Jacinda and Lucy were curious how the two had spent the night but refrained from asking. "Ben, are you OK?" Lucy asked. "He is not," Rhianna interrupted. "Bessie's phone rang early this morning many times. When she finally picked up, it was her dad." Rhianna held Ben's hand under the table but Lucy and Jacinda couldn't see that clearly. "Mum, dad called me, " Ben started. "I sent him a picture of Rhianna and me in our prom outfits like he asked." Ben paused. "He called me all kinds of names and said I was not a son anymore and he blamed you for allowing me to be Bessie." "I am sorry. Hun. He called me too and we had a brief discussion. Jacinda heard part of it. So what did you say?" "I just told him I was doing it because I wanted to and that everybody, including my date Rhianna, thought I looked good. If he didn't want me to be his son, OK." Ben was near tears. "Then Rhianna jumped in and told him that if he didn't love me for who I am, Ben had others who did. She said she loved me because I was not afraid to dress how I wanted. Dad exploded." "Mum, I couldn't let Bessie be treated like that. She was doing it for me too." Rhianna was unapologetic. "I am glad you stood up for your friend but perhaps you should not have got involved. What happened then?" Jacinda asked. "Dad cursed and hung up," Ben replied quietly. Rhianna jumped. "Last night I had shown Bessie just how much I loved her. As soon as the call was over, I told Bessie to change into Ben. I helped her. And then I showed Ben how much I loved him too. I don't want to share my Bessie with any boy chasing her. I don't want to share my Ben either. Bessie will dress whenever she or I want but we don't want to work at Angela's boutique and be on show to others." Lucy gave a small smile and looked at Jacinda. At least that worry was gone. "Ben, I told your dad some things and we will most likely be headed for divorce," Lucy said. "Better you all know now. It is absolutely not because of you or Bessie. I love you both. As you know, this has been coming for some time." "OK, guys, what are your plans for today?" Jacinda asked. "Ben and I can walk to the mall. We need to talk about an apartment near college. There is also something else we need to do. We don't need anything but we need to talk to Angela." Rhianna looked at Ben for agreement and he nodded. "We are going to tell her that we can't take the job but we'll definitely be shopping there. We can find other summer jobs." The children left holding hands much like any young couple. Lucy and Jacinda sat in silence reflecting on the current situation. "I am sorry, Lucy. I think Rhianna wanted to help Bessie but perhaps she shouldn't have got involved. She certainly appears to have taken care of her man however he was dressed. Ben appeared very happy." "Yes, he did. I was pleased to see Ben although I was getting used to Bessie." Lucy paused. "It doesn't really matter. I am glad she stood up for Bessie," Lucy replied. "They seem to have come to a happy arrangement." "Well now, that problem appears to be settled so let's talk about setting up that office. It appears I might have my first client who may want to file for divorce." Both mothers smiled. "Yes, I think it is time," Lucy said softly.

SRU The Prom Date

SRU - The Prom Date "I don't believe this!" said Paul as he arrived at his usual table to eat his dinner. "Don't believe what?" asked his best mate, Mark. "I've just asked Yvonne to go to the prom with me and she told me to get lost!" replied Paul. Paul had had his eyes on Yvonne for ages. Yvonne was one of the hottest looking girls in their year, her light auburn hair fell below her shoulders and her lips were begging to be kissed. "Oh, I'm sorry," said Mark, feeling sorry...

Our Daughters Prom Date

Our Daughter's Prom Date By Daphne Xu I'd just finished combing our daughter Cherry's hair, parting her hair on her left side, and now I stood back from her, hands on her shoulders. "You make a handsome, elegant picture," I told Cherry, with all the pride of a father. My wife, Brianna, was making the finishing touches on her hair, tucking it under to give it a light androgynous impression. "She's truly all grown up now," added Brianna, tears in her eyes. Indeed she was, and she...

Prom Date

Dan always enjoyed sleeping late on Saturday mornings. As he relaxed in bed, the sun beaming through his window he recalled Friday night at the mall with his best friend Alex. The two had stumbled across a shop of oddities. A shop neither had seen in the mall before, though from the look the shop had been there forever. With little else to do Dan and Alex chatted with the scruffy old shop owner. About nothing much, daily life, though both were shocked when he scoffed, that neither...

Prom Date

My senior prom was the most memorable night of my life. My date, Caitlyn, was stunning. She is nearly 6’ tall, with flowing auburn hair, all natural. Looking at the freckles dotting her body was enough to be certain, but the little red bush was confirmation. She kept it mostly shaved because of her swimming, but left just enough curls on top to emphasize the match. She swam varsity and all that training gave her an athletic, lean frame along with a small firm ass. She had a fairly flat chest,...

Prom Date

It started with a flyer, posted up on the school's bulletin board. Prom was coming up, the magically pageant event in which all the seniors get to pay an extremely high price to simply come to school all dressed up and dance. I don't understand the point, if people wanted to go dress up and dance, there were places in town they could go for a much cheaper cover charge. What made the prom a special event this year at my high school was that a former student was going to make a special...

I never saw my sister as anything but my sister, you know, part of the environment, never noticed or appreciated, but the young woman standing in front of me with the phone in her outstretched hand caught my attention. I checked her from hair to heels then back to her face, I was...

Prom Princess

Prom Princess Three Months Karen was smiling at me. I should have realized it right then and there: if she was smiling at me, it could not be good. She had come over to drop something off from her Mom to my Mom. They have been friends for a long time, which explains why Karen and I have known each other for, well, ages. It looked like she had come over from school since she was still in her Catholic school girl uniform. Since I go to a public school, and since I loved to give...

Bailees Prom Date

Her short cut honey colored hair was done up as a loose updo held in place by a rhinestone comb at the back of her head. The carefully done style looked as if she had just stepped in from a wind and had nonchalantly swept her hair up with her fingers. She was made up with light blue eyeliner which boldly contrasted with naturally long curled lashes, nothing fake there. Bailee's face was made up with blushes and creams that enhanced the high cheekbones, Greek nose and full bodied Brandy...

A Prom Night To Remember

Sometimes, the most important moments in your life can be born from the smallest, most insignificant events. Take, for example, a man bumping into a woman in the hallway of their apartment building, after some apologies and helping to pick up dropped items, it can lead to the two having dinner together, and then lunch, and then dinner again and you skip ahead forty years to find an old married couple with seven grandchildren and one on the way. The cause of the most important moment in...

After the Prom with Daddy

But that probably wasn’t going to happen because Tiffany’s mother Lisa had sex on prom night and got pregnant with Tiffany, and she decided to go through with the pregnancy. Tiffany really liked Tim though but wasn’t sure if she could control her emotions if things went too far. She had irregular periods and was put on birth control pills to regulate them, so she didn’t have a risk of pregnancy, but didn’t want to be a cliché of a girl having her first sexual experience on prom...

Prom Night

When I was in high school, I was seventeen-years-old and dating an older man. He was forty-years-old and very handsome. He had taken me out to dinner and for ice cream and for walks on the beach. We had held hands and kissed but had never gone any further, but I knew he wanted to go further by the way he looked at me when we were riding in his car. I would see him looking down at my sexy, smooth tan legs and I would know, instinctively, he wanted what I had between them. Darryl had already been...

The Boy Who Would Be Prom Queen Chapter 21 The Prom

3 PM Three Hours Until Prom Zoey pulled her car into the Departures Ramp for Terminal A and found a spot between two other cars where families were saying goodbye to each other. As she left the car running and ran into the ticketing terminal, a bellhop complained, "Hey! This is a no-parking zone!" Zoey ignored the bellhop and just kept running. She wished she had asked Tyler which terminal he dropped Lance off at. She knew Tyler's lazy tendencies and took an educated guess that...

Altered Fates The Prom

The Prom By Sara This is a strange story of what the prom can be like if a guy is not too careful in how he deals with his girlfriend. Hi, my name is Mike, or so I think it used to be. Anyways, that is getting far to ahead of myself. Let me start by telling you a little story about me, which leads me to where I am now. In the end you will see why it is that I am sitting here writing this down, if even I can help one person. Anyways, like I said, my name is Mike, Michael...

The AntiProm

The Anti-Prom We finished our lunch in the cafeteria and proceeded to walk out back to the parking lot. We still had fifteen minutes and a few of our group liked to get a cigarette in before the next class period started. This was a routine that we have been following since we came together in our sophomore year. It was such an incredible find for all of us to come together. Five of us are from out of state and it wasn't even the local that got us all together. We don't really fit in...

My Mom Chaperoned My Prom

1.My StoryIt all started at the last Parent/Teacher meeting before the prom. I'm secretary on the student council (don't laugh). The meeting was about the prom and how it was going to be organized. My mom was there and she made a big deal about having herself be nominated as one of the chaperones. She always has to make a scene wherever she goes. She made a big speech about it, even embarrassing me by mentioning that her son was on the student council and how that somehow gave her more of a...

Stepmom Goes to the Prom

When Jillian's period came a few weeks after her encounter with the boys she breathed a huge sigh of relief. So far her stepsons had not said anything to their father and she felt this was the last bullet she had to dodge. Despite taking a "morning after" pill she would not believe she was in the clear until she was sure she wasn't pregnant. She had never been so happy to have her period in her life. Her husband had asked during those weeks why she was so nervous, but she kept putting him...

Taras Prom

Tara's Prom By Janis Elizabeth I walked into my seventeen-year old daughter Mary's room that Saturday afternoon with a pile of her clothes and lingerie that had been freshly laundered and ironed. Little did I know of the surprise that would await me. No, it was not my daughter in bed with her boyfriend. To me, it was something even more surprising. There, in front of Mary's full length mirror, stood my son Tim, aged fifteen, his longish blond hair framing the features of his...

A Different Kind of Prom

A Different Kind of Prom By Brian [email protected] When we were both five years old I told Brenda Anders that I loved her. She told me that she loved me too. I told her that she was pretty. She replied that I was pretty as well. I told her that I wanted to marry her. "I'm sorry," she replied, with seriousness that now seems silly in a kindergartner. "I don't want to...

New Girl in School Part 11: Valentine's Day Date and the Prom Queen Election Written March 11-23 "Oh so lovely...." Chloe thought as she stared off into the distance, lost in thought. Joey had to poke her with a straw to get her attention. "Hey, you alright, Chloe?" he asked plainly. She looked back to him. "Oh it's nothing, Joey. I am having a great time," waving her hand dismissively. The two sat at a booth at Louie Drello's, a local Italian place right off the main road leading...

Edward Morelli heard the phone ringing. It was annoying the 18 year old, both because it was the fourth ring and also because it was interrupting his drinking. He took another swig from his 5 liter bottle of Jack Daniels and leaned across the living room sofa to the irritating telephone and answered it without looking at the caller ID.“Hell-loooo,” he slurred. “Ed?”“Yeahhhh. Who the fuck is this?”“Your mother.”The blatant reply, mixed with a tinge of parental authority, offset his...

Amy Prom and the End of Life as We Know It

Okay, so you want to hear about my strange prom and the decision I made to give my prom date my virginity.  The first thing you should know is that I had been planning the event for years, long before I really knew what prom was supposed to be like.  By the time I was old enough to go to prom I was more than ready to give a guy my cherry.   So, I had everything all planned in my head.  Of course, what some teenage girls call a plan is often referred to as a fantasy by those older and...

A Later in Life Prom Fantasy

A Later in Life Prom Fantasy By Delanna Madison It must have been the 5th or 6th time that I checked my makeup and worked at getting my hair just perfect. It seemed as though I would never truly be satisfied with the results. "Come on Del, you're acting like a silly schoolgirl on her first date," I thought to myself. Then the irony struck me and I had to laugh. In a way, that's exactly what I was. Not quite a schoolgirl in terms of age, but soon to be on my way to my first prom,...

The New Girl in School Part 12Prom Night Masquerade

NGIS Part 12: Prom Night Masquerade Written April 12-17 2018 And thus, Prom Week was at hand. Oh yeah, Leavitt Jones High School held Prom as a week length celebration of the springtime, the time of near perpetual youth and vigor. The preparation work involved was extensive and labor intensive. But at the end of it all, it would be all worth it. For Chloe L'Amour, or rather M, the time was fast approaching when she would open up to Joey about her mission and see how he would take it....

I – Julie Sophomore year had started. Classes were fine. Sports were going fine. Dating was better than ever, I was actually seeing three or four different girls at this point. Not all at the same time of course but one this week, a different one next week, a party here or there, whoever had a particular event at the time. I was pretty care free at that point. The Prom

The Prom © 2015 by Nom de Plume Twenty years! It's hard to believe that much time has gone by since I limped out of Grover Cleveland High, at the bottom of my class, prospects zero. My sole achievement was the dubious designation as Class Clown, in recognition of outrageous pranks which got me suspended twice and almost expelled. The last, which nearly ruined the senior prom for everyone, featured me disguised as a girl in a long halter gown. More on...

Going To The Prom With Mom

I stared at her, she stood there with one hand on her hip. In her other hand, she brandished a wooden spoon. Mom was making basil pesto pasta, which is one of my favorites. “I dunno Mom, ‘cause I don’t want to go. That’s why.” I tried looking behind her, to see if she had grated parmesan cheese yet. She must have anticipated my interest in the food because she moved to block me. “Ryan… that’s a lie, I can see it on your face. What’s wrong, honey?” her brow furrowed, and genuine concern...

Don't go to prom," I said. "I didn't go my senior year, what's the big deal?" "You don't understand, this is my last chance." "Wait, what?" My eyes narrowed in disbelief. Fatherdaughter Date MothersonChapter 13 Prom

“Dad, did you ever go to a prom?” I was taken back, “Sure. I think I went to five or six of them in high school. They were fun. Why?” “Well, the Junior-Senior Prom is coming up in May, and underclassmen are allowed to attend if an upper-classman invites them. I think it’s a big deal. Our three other teen friends are coming over any minute to talk about it with the three of us.” Penny stated her case as Misty hung out beside her. I saw Doug at the doorway listening to our talk. I chuckled,...

I was devastated. I lay on my bed and sobbed tears of sorrow as I looked at the ball gown hanging on my closet door. I don’t know if I cried for him, his grandmother or myself. Maybe all three. I’d fended off his advances for months but I promised him in a moment of heated petting on my 18th birthday that...

My workouts became more intense each day as the big night approached. I am not talking about the big night, which most high school seniors look forward to, High School Prom, but my first defense of my amateur division championship in Thai kickboxing.
