For the first few weeks of us sleeping in our bed, I had to sleep on my back, which I absolutely hate, I'm a side sleeper, but they wanted me to wait until the bones were completely healed first. But we laid there, Lisa cuddled up to me on my right side, laying her head on my chest as we drifted off to sleep.
I was getting antsy to get back to work, but I still wasn't cleared to return to full duty, but I was allowed light duty, so Jack decided to train me to work dispatch in the meantime. It wasn't my rolling office which I'd have liked, but it got me out of the house and back to work. Jack had also gotten in touch with his lawyer and they filed a suit against the other driver and his company. Between insurance and work comp, I NEVER saw a bill at all. They ended up settling out of court, and we ended up after fees and everything coming away with about 5 million dollars. Totally shocked me when we got the news. So instead of just blowing it on stupid stuff, we decided to be smart about it, I invested half of it in a CD, to let it grow interest, the rest we used to upgrade cars, and other things. We took a vacation which ended up being our honeymoon to the Caribbean.
Just before Christmas, I received the news I had been waiting for, I was cleared to return to full duty for work with no restrictions. Now since I had the injury to my pelvis and hip, I have a pretty noticeable limp, and at times need a cane to walk, but I have been able to get around most often without it.
Our first time making love after I got my clean bill of health, we took it slow, it was passionate and deliberate, and one of the hottest lovemaking sessions I believe we've ever had. We felt so connected, and in touch with each other. We were just happy to have a reason to celebrate, after the hell we had been through all year. And we looked forward to seeing what the next year would hold for us.
