Suzie rolled over and looked at the time through the one eye she dared to open. It had been a big night, and she groaned thinking about having to go work. She had promised to try and be on time this week, but the beauty of working for her father meant that he forgave her for things she would never get away with if she worked for anyone else. She was unreliable at best, and they had come to the agreement that she would just help his receptionist when she could rather than be the receptionist at the automotive repair business.
She'd let him down, she knew it, and he knew it, but rather than belabour the fact he had made the compromise of just paying her for the time she could spare him. It was up to her how much or how little she worked. He got to keep an eye on her and throw a few dollars her way, and she got her independence and the life she wanted. Still, she had promised to come in early for stocktake, so she rolled out of bed and padded across the old worn carpet to the bathroom ignoring the human-sized lump on the other side of her bed. At least, she had come home to her bed, rather than waking up in foreign territory.
She showered and pulled on some reasonably clean jeans, after giving them a quick look over and a sniff, then nudged the lump in her bed. Two big arms reached for her and she danced away deftly.
"You gotta go, I hafta go to work," She said loudly throwing a discarded pillow at him. She watched as he groaned and sat up rubbing his face and pushing his hands through his shaggy hair.
"I thought the band was your gig," he said in confusion. "Never pegged you for a nine to five chick."
"Yeah well we all gotta eat," she shrugged. She picked up his pants from the floor and threw them in his direction. "You gotta go," she said again letting irritation colour her voice.
"Wait! Did you hear that?" He asked cocking his head and turning to look at her clock radio. The morning crew had just come on as the time ticked over to six.
"Yeah it's a clock radio, I like a random music fix in the mornings," this guy was becoming seriously annoying. So what if she liked waking up to her clock radio, not everyone enjoyed the piercing scream of the phone as a wake-up call.
"No did you hear what they said?" he flopped back onto the bed rolling to his belly and staring at the clock. He reached out to turn it up messing up the channel tuning but quickly bringing it back to where it was before finding the volume wheel.
"Shit that musta been one hell of a fire if it destroyed all the music and equipment. You should get down there," he said enthusiastically.
"What?" she shook her head not understanding what he was saying.
"Listen!" she almost shouted at her.
"Overnight fire has destroyed the station. We are on air on by the superhero efforts of our tech support teams and the amazing Lukey McQ. Live music is going to be the only way out of this mess now. If you have a half decent band get yourselves down here and save the day and the station."
"You should totally do it. Blow off work and get down there. Call your guys and wake them up already, you guy's rock!" He said sitting back up to look at her.
She knew she should be going to work as she promised, but it did seem too good of an opportunity to pass up. She picked up her phone to call Harry and Eks. She left a message, realising that there was no way they would be awake at this time of the morning. She sighed knowing that getting their band there on time was impossible, but maybe other bands would be feeling the same way. Her mind tumbled over the possibilities until the guy spoke again.
"No luck? You could go and wake them up," he suggested.
"Look," she struggled to find his name in her memories of the night before and failed. "I need to go to work and trying to get any sense out of those guys this early in the morning is impossible. It's not like it's the Big Gig or anything like that we are missing."
"But it could be. Can you imagine if ten or twenty bands showed up to play? This could be awesome, better than awesome. This could be epic!" The guy didn't let up.
"Yeah well, we aren't exactly a covers band, and I have to go to work, so you gotta go," she said as if she didn't care that she was probably missing the opportunity of a lifetime.
"I'm gonna check it out, I sent you a Facebook request, add me and if it's half as good as I think it will be I'll message you," He suggested and stood to finally pull on his pants, and she knew immediately why she had brought him home last night. Tall and athletic he was neither overly muscled nor underweight. He was incredibly hot as he stood there looking around for his shirt. Noticing her watching him, he smiled as if reading her mind and she went to pick up his shirt and tossed it to him looking down at her phone as she opened Facebook rather than admit that she had been checking him out.
The radio announced the arrival of the first band of the morning and music began to sound harsh and distorted through the tiny speakers of the clock radio. She tapped the button to accept the friend request from Quade Armstrong. Well, at least, she knew his name now, she smiled.
"I'm gonna head down there. You have fun at work," Quade announced walking toward her and the door. He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her to him as he kissed her. "I'll meet you back here at six?" He asked.
"What? Why?" she spluttered pushing on his chest to move away from him.
"We were going to grab some food before heading over to Eks and Harry's place," he reminded her.
"We were?" she asked not remembering having made plans with him.
"Sure, so I'll see you at six," he reiterated and walked out of the door before she could cancel their plans.
Suzie walked down after him, concerned that she had drunk so much that she didn't remember making plans with the band let alone this Quade. Yes, she admitted that she drank way too much, way too often, but she had never had memory problems before. Well, she had problems with names occasionally, but that as only because she didn't care enough to remember them she rarely saw them after one night. He turned at the bottom of the stairs and bent to kiss her again then jogged off toward a car parked further down the street that she assumed was his.
She drove to work listening to the breakfast radio show that had suffered the devastating losses from the fire that had gutted their building. Another dreadfully incompetent band came on making her cringe, and the announcers cut them off begging for talent to come to their aid. Maybe she should have gone and woken the guys up. Too late now she thought as she pulled into the Auto Repair shop and seeing the look of both incredulity and happiness on her father's face.
"Didn't think you'd make it in what with the radio station burning down and the call for serious muso's going out on the airwaves," her father chuckled as she walked into the office.
"Not you too?" The apprentice mechanic Douggy groaned, "Doesn't anyone check the date? They would hardly be on air at all from this station if it burnt down. They'd be lucky if they could get a live feed from another station. I can't believe you fell for it."
"Would I be here if there was a chance my band could get air time?" Suzie replied haughtily. "Don't be such an ass."
"Well, I fell for it," her father announced. "I thought you'd be there for sure, so I asked your mother to come in to help out."
"Oh God, no! Dad tell me you didn't," Suzie went to pick up her bag from where she had thrown it on the big desk.
"Aprilfool's!" He chuckled loudly.
"You shoulda seen your face," Douggy gasped between bouts of laughter. "That was awesome," he laughed again and gave his boss a high five.
"This is going to be a very long day," Suzie groaned and flopped down into the chair leaning forward to bang her head on the desk.
*****
Suzie had put in a big effort with the stocktake, but by mid-morning the lack of sleep, real food and the effects of the big night before conspired against her and she climbed into the back of her car and closed her eyes.
It felt like she had barely closed her eyes for even a minute when her phone began buzzing insistently against her boobs and rolling to her back with a sigh she pulled the phone from her bra and looked at it. The guy from this morning had been trying to call her using FaceBook messenger, and she groaned. Dropping the phone she rolled over and closed her eyes again. She just needed a ten-minute power nap, and she would be fine.
When she woke, the car was pitch black, and she panicked. Oh fuck, what time is it, I couldn't have slept all day. She fumbled around for her phone the glow illuminating the old car's interior. She'd only slept for an hour, and she looked at the windows realising someone had put a cover on the car. If she had thought about it for a minute, there was no way her dad would have left her there at night.
"Very funny Dad," She groaned into the phone. "You can come and let me out now." His answering chuckle was enough for her to stop paying attention to anything he said as he called her an Aprilfool for the second time that morning.
She sat forward peering into the rear vision mirror, her mop of tangled curls was in total disarray, as normal, so she hunted around for a hair tie and pulled her hair back into a messy bun. If Quade could see her now, she bet he wouldn't continue to message her. She sighed and poked her tongue out rudely at Douggy who was helping her father take the heavy blackout cover from her car.
"What?" Her father complained as she got out of the car giving him a murderous look. "It's just a bit of fun Suzie-pop," he reverted to his c***dhood name for her with a grin. She walked back into the reception of the business without a backwards glance and picked up her clipboard.
"Feeling better?" Molly, the receptionist, asked as she entered the stockroom.
"Much, thank you," Suzie returned hr smile. It was hard not to like Molly. She was a genuinely kind and good-hearted woman who seemed to care a lot about her father and the business. "So where are we up to?"
"If you want to make a start on the brake pads over there, I'll keep going here," she suggested. "Unless you wanted to do this then I can start on that lot," she offered.
"You know it's okay to tell me what to do," Suzie laughed. "You're the one who has to work here every day while I just pop in and out occasionally."
"We have to work together, so we may as well both be happy," she said mildly and went back to work leaving Suzie to start at the other end of the stockroom. They worked for another hour or so before being interrupted.
"I'm doing a lunch run. Anyone want anything?" Douggy sang out from the door of the room in which the girls were working.
"Oh yeah get me something fattening and very bad for me," Suzie sang out, "Just whatever Dad's getting is fine."
"One Caesar salad and diet iced tea coming up," Douggy chuckled as she looked at him in astonishment. "Yeah, your mum's got him on some strict diet for his cholesterol.
"Good God," Suzie was horrified. "Can you get me bacon and egg burger then, I skipped breakfast and need something more substantial than a salad. Some chips and a coke would be good too."
"One heart attack on a plate coming up," Douggy chortled. "You want a cake or pastry for dessert?"
"Oh that that would be fabulous," she grinned, "But only if it's fresh."
"I'm fine Douggy," Molly smiled. "I have put my wallet on a diet, so I brought mine in from home." She laughed lightly and went back to work.
"Alright, back in a few," he went out to his car and took off down the street.
"Well, we have the majority of this done now. You can take off after lunch if you like and we can finish up next week," Molly put down the clipboard and went to wash her hands. "I need to catch up on the office work this afternoon."
"Yeah, okay," Suzie agreed easily. "I'll just finish off this section before Douggy gets back."
"Thanks," Molly smiled and went through to reception.
Suzie's phone buzzed again in her pocket, and she ignored it, the guy was persistent, and she considered him to be bordering on stalking. He was good looking and she knew very well why she had taken him home last night, but aside of that, she knew nothing about him, aside of the fact that he liked her band and had some connection to one of the guys. He was on old school friend or something. The sex had been great, urgent and rough, totally chemical attraction rather than softer emotions. It was the world she chose to live in. The rock and roll lifestyle, as her mother put it all the time.
She could hear her mother's voice in her mind lecturing her about growing up and getting a proper job. Telling her that her looks would fade along with her voice and she would be left with nothing if she didn't make an effort to hone her talents and get a real job. Her father was on the opposite end of the spectrum always awaiting the news that her band had got their big break, suggesting they apply for those television talent shows where the winners get recording deals. Her parents couldn't be more opposite, and yet they doted on each other. Suzie had never understood it and at an early age had decided that when they split up, she would live with her father. The problem was that they never even fought, let alone talked about splitting much to her chagrin.
She heard Douggy's V8 gas guzzler return and pull into the small parking lot in front of the business, and she dropped her clipboard with a sigh. "Food glorious food," she sang to herself as she went to wash her hands.
"Come and eat," her father called from reception.
"Hold ya horses," she called back, "We don't all like the taste of dust and grease on our food," she laughed.
"You were saying?" he held up the big greasy burger as she walked into the small lunchroom beside reception. She groaned and took a seat snatching the burger from him. He watched her unwrap it and take a huge mouthful the sauce and grease dripping over her fingers. "Plans for the weekend?" he asked.
"I haven't forgotten Mum's birthday dinner," she rolled her eyes.
"Didn't think you had," he said innocently. "No gigs came up then?
"Not yet," she teased knowing that her father had been planning this surprise for a while. "Don't worry Dad the guys aren't available anyway. I will be there Sunday rain, hail or shine."
A bell signalled someone entering the reception and Molly jumped up hurrying to the front office. She came back a few minutes later saying that a good-looking guy was here to see Suzie. Frowning Suzie put down her burger and wiped her hands before standing and heading to the front office. She saw Quade standing there as she neared the doorway. He'd been trying to contact her all morning, and she thought he was persistent but following her to work, that was stalking, and she took a deep breath ready to give him a piece of her mind.
"I know I know," he held up his hands in a gesture of surrender. "Harry and Eks made me come to get you because you aren't answering your phone, and they're setting up to record."
"Nice but I've fallen for enough pranks today," Suzie crossed her arms and stared at him. "What else have you got or is that it?"
"So you heard about the station not burning down after all," he laughed genuinely amused by her assumption. "It was still cool though all those bands showing up. Apparently they have been planning this for a while and took the bands names and a demo clip if it was available. The station is going to host a battle of the bands."
"That' great but we weren't there to get into the mix," she said holding her disapproving stance.
"No but I was, so I entered a clip of your gig last night, they loved it, so you're in," he said with pride noting the consternation on her face. "This would be about the time you thanked me. Kissed me, told me I was your hero. At this point, even a handshake would even be welcome."
"It's a nice story, but if you're trying to get into my pants that ship has already sailed remember?" she said dryly.
"Oh yeah, I wouldn't mind a do-over of that," he chuckled. "Your one wild woman." She looked over her shoulder, and true to form her father and Douggy were eavesdropping.
"Not sure that's something my father needed to hear," she smirked watching him quickly look around for the man.
"Ya got me," he laughed until he saw the older man come through the reception door. Then he dumbly looked between the two of them.
"What did you call my daughter?" he growled menacingly.
"Oh fuck, I'm sorry I didn't realise, I mean... It's nice to meet you, Sir," Quade quickly regained his composure. He held out his hand, "Quade Armstrong."
"Heh Sir. I like this guy, Suzie-pop," he chuckled and shook the young man's hand. "Bob Mackey," he introduced himself. "What's this you were saying about my daughter?" he asked resuming the growl in his voice which was ruined by the laughter in his eyes.
"Just how much I enjoyed spending time with her last night and hope to repeat the event again tonight. The problem is that she doesn't seem to believe she has a gig and won't answer her phone to confirm it." Quade said conversationally deciding he liked the man and his laughing eyes.
"So you saw her band huh? I snuck into a gig once, stood at the back for a whole set before she kicked me out," he chortled.
"I didn't kick you out," Suzie shook her head, "I believe Mum did that for me." He frowned remembering the row that ensued after that night between mother and daughter and wished he hadn't joked about it.
"The battle of the bands thing is true," Douggy said coming into the room. "It's been on the radio since the breakfast show ended. I think the station had to do something because of the rage against them. Aprilfool's joke or not they got a lot of night owls out of bed with no sleep and hangovers. I'm surprised there wasn't a riot."
"Nah they planned it that way, they are posting the clip's bands gave in on their breakfast show page and letting the public vote for the top eight," he pulled out his phone and brought up the web page.
"So it boils down to who has the most fans," Suzie said knowing that their fan base was pretty small even on a good night.
"Exactly so Harry wants to update the youtube channel, thus me coming here to get you to come and play," he said as if that explained everything.
"Yeah alright, where are they setting up," Suzie gave in to the possible coverage this could give their band.
"I'll take you that's why I'm here," he said easily.
"My car's here I can drive myself." She still wasn't sure he wasn't some stalker or weird fanboy. She knew she needed to lay off the booze and make better choices after their gigs.
"Finish eating first, they can wait another ten minutes," her father interrupted the conversation, picking up on his daughter's reluctance to reacquaint herself with the young man. "You can call Harry and get the address."
"So all good, then," Quade took the hint and agreed with a shrug. "I'm letting them use some old office space I'm managing in a building above the markets at West End. I guess I'll see you there later." He turned to look at Bob and Douggy, "nice to meet you hope to see you again sometime soon."
"I guess that's not up to me now is it," Bob nodded in a friendly way and watched the young man leave. "Come and eat while it's still warm," he smiled at her and walked back into the lunch room. "He seemed like a decent enough guy, what's wrong with him?" he asked half knowing the answer.
"Too eager, I only met him last night at the gig, and he has been texting and calling all morning, then he shows up here," she shrugged.
"Stalker," Douggy agreed but shrank in his chair as the both turned to glare at him.
"Sounds like he was just trying to do you a favour to me," Bob said. "I like him. I'm sure your mother would like him."
"You date him then," she laughed.
"All I'm saying is don't judge people too quickly," Bob cautioned his daughter. He wasn't one hundred percent sure but he was almost certain he had met the young man at one of his wife's charity events that she constantly dragged him along to. He always grumbled and complained about it but by the end of the evening, she was more than demonstrative of how seeing him in a suit made her feel, so it was more for a show that he voiced his reluctance. Still he was sure he had seen the guy at something.
*****
Quade couldn't shake the feeling of familiarity he had when meeting Bob Mackey. He didn't think he had ever met a mechanic before but it was a nice feeling, he liked the man and he more than liked his daughter. When he'd stuck around after the gig with his mates from school and met her, he'd gone from the initial feeling of lust to one of desire as he got to know her better. He had planned to ask her out when they started to leave but he had barely got out, "Would you like to," when she had stopped him with an aggressive kiss. "Sure, but my place is closer," she had winked and took his hand leading him up the street to a small loft apartment. He smiled remembering the moment well and getting hard at the thought of the chemistry they had together.
He wasn't a one-night stand sort of guy, and he felt uneasy about her attitude toward him this morning. Even at the auto repair shop, she had seemed cold and regretful of the night they spent together. It would have been easy just to shrug and walk away with the old platitude of "plenty more fish in the sea," but there was something about her, call it chemistry or kismet or fate but he wanted to see her again, and again. He wanted to get to know her better, and if he was honest, he wanted to fuck her brains out every night and day.
She wasn't even his usual type of girl. She was a tough rock chick who could match it with the boys he had grown up, playing around in bands with until he joined Greenpeace as an environmental engineer and travelled the world with the ship he was stationed on. His sister's illness had brought him home last year, and he had stayed after she had gone into remission. He tended to date quieter and studious girls who were environmentally aware and impressed with his Greenpeace credentials far more than his current job working for his Uncles company. Suzie hadn't even asked him what he did as a job.
"Carpe diem," he said to himself out loud. She obvious lived in the moment he should too instead of worrying about the future. He pulled his car into the small almost hidden driveway around the back. He loved living here in the old part of the city. It was one of the few inner suburbs that had a community that campaigned strongly against redevelopers that came in trying to change the look and feel of the place. Locking the car, he made his way back down the driveway and over two blocks to the old offices. If Suzie had just followed him she could have parked there too, he wasn't sure she would get a parking space near the office block.
"This place is awesome," Eks yelled over the noise of the music they had playing as they set everything up. "Thanks, man, where's Suzie?"
"She had to finish something for her old man, she be here soon," Quade said with a shrug as if he didn't care.
"Harry call Suz and tell her to hurry the fuck up, we gotta get rolling on this," Ecky yelled at his brother.
"I'm not her frickin' keeper," Harry grumbled loudly walking past them to the door and the stairwell which was slightly quieter pulling out his phone.
"Yeah but you are the music and lyrics team, I'm just here to look pretty and sing," Eks laughed.
"Shame you still need help with both those things," Harry continued to grumble shutting the door behind him. "Trouble in paradise?" Quade watched him slam the door behind him.
"They have history but it's well and truly over. He regrets it, she doesn't," Eks laughed.
"I wanna hear that story," Quade laughed with him.
"I don't know if you remember them at school, they were a few of grades below us, but when everyone started pairing up, they got together and stayed together for two years or so. They were always more best friends than boyfriend and girlfriend. Anyway, once they left school and turned eighteen they joined the band, and Harry decided that it was gonna be a whole lot more fun if he could take advantage of all the girls who were becoming groupies and happy to sleep with the band members. She agreed, and they broke up remaining best friends," he explained.
"Doesn't sound like a problem to me if they were always besties to begin with," Quade frowned at the story.
"Ah see the problem is that she has groupies of her own," he winked knowingly at his friend having seen them hooking up the night before. "I guess he expected her to be a nun or something while he wore his knob off fucking anything in a mini skirt."
"Now I get it," he chuckled. "So you're telling me she's a bit of a slut?" he didn't like the idea or saying the word in regards to Suzie, but he was curious.
"Actually, she flirts more than anything. I think she does it just to drive him crazy. She hasn't been drunk enough to take anyone home for a long time," he continued to chatter as if it was common knowledge but became silent and shook his head when Harry walked back in.
"No answer," Harry grumbled. "I guess you're staying then," he looked at Quade.
"Yeah I thought I might hang around for a bit, be a general roadie or gopher," he smiled in what he hoped was a friendly way understanding why Harry was not as happy about his help with the band today as Eks had been.
"Know how to work a sound board?" he asked.
"No but I'm an engineer, I'm sure I can manage it," he said willing to prove he meant what he said and would help out if asked.
"Great you can help with this sound check this place has mad acoustics," Harry went to where his guitar lay beside a big amplifier.
It was half an hour later when Suzie walked in dragging her smaller amp and guitar case, panting from the struggle up the stairs. "A little help would be nice," she said breathlessly.
"I'll give you a hand," Quade offered moving from the sound board he had only just mastered.
"Have you met our new roadie?" Harry said acidly, "Oh that's right you know him better than any of us ever could." She flinched and turned a hard-eyed stare on him. "What? It's true isn't it?" He said defying her to deny it.
"Good grief. Are we doing this again? Seriously?" She marched over to where he stood. "I love you, Harry, as a brother, and that's probably why I want to kill you right now. We have been over this so many times I can't believe I have to say it again," she said angrily. "I love you. You're my best friend in the whole goddamn world, but I don't feel that spark, that chemistry that couples need. You have to stop acting like a jilted lover anytime I want to date someone,"
"So it's dating now?" Harry asked his tone surprised.
"Honestly, I don't know what the fuck it is. I haven't had the chance to find out. I've been at work all morning. So if you have fucked this up for me before I can even explore it, like every other time, I will never forgive you. Do you understand? Never and you can find yourself a new guitarist and songwriter," her voice became angry again.
"Okay, okay, I'm just being concerned, as a brother, we don't want another stalker fanboy messing things up," Harry said gently. "I'm sorry."
"Fine now help me set up you ass," she let go of the anger and turned back to see Quade picking up the amp and guitar case. "Where do you want it?"
"Just give it to Harry he knows where it goes," she sighed. "Look I'm sorry about that and earlier. Can we talk later?"
"Sure, if you want," Quade agreed easily and let Harry take the equipment from him. He then stepped back behind the soundboard glad to have a job to do rather than stand around like a fanboy. Roadie sounded way cooler in his mind. They ran through three songs that they hadn't managed to get up on their channel yet. Even raw and unmixed like this they sounded great.
"Alright I cut work early and got the equipment here," the band's self-appointed manager and their main fan said dumping his stuff on the table. "Oh good, you've roped in a new sound guy that will help." He walked over to where Quade stood and shook his hand. "I'm Red, and you are?"
"Quade," Eks came forward to intercept the hurricane that was Red. "He's the only reason we made the website at all, so play nice."
"Well done, well done," Red clapped him on the back. "So you can stay on sound, and we will film, edit and upload. The lighting leaves a bit to be desired, but we can work with it," he turned as two other men entered the large space looking around. "These are friends from work who helped with the equipment. Grant's a director and John's an editor. Grab some space where ever you can," he waved his hand around. "This place is great by the way how did we get it?"
"Once again, Quade," Eks said.
"Have you told her yet?" he lowered his voice and spoke directly to Eks.
"No I forgot to mention it," Eks said with a perfectly straight face.
"That was the deal, or I walk," Red threatened.
"Yeah right," he scoffed at the idea. "You're our self-appointed manager you deliver your own ultimatum."
Eks went and stood beside Quade watching as Red approached Harry and Suzie. "Wait for it," he whispered folding his arms across his chest.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" Suzie yelled. "Could you be any more of a pervert, no!"
"Fine it doesn't have to be that song, it can be one of your own, but you take the lead at least once in a song tonight," Red argued back. "I brought all this equipment and a crew here tonight for your goddam band."
"Fine," she yelled.
"Fine," he yelled back and turned around to look at Eks with a grin. Then he walked to where his friends were unpacking a range of equipment.
"She's got a great voice, deep and throaty," Eks whispered to Quade, "She just hates to take the lead. It's a never ending battle for Red to bully her into singing, he suggests something dirty, she fires up, he compromises, and she accepts the lesser of two evils."
"What did he ask her to sing?" Quade tried to hide the smile he felt creeping into his features.
"Going by her answer probably the Pink version of "I touch myself", he chuckled. "He loves those old dirty eighties gems. I swear he just likes to see her reaction to the titles, I doubt she's heard of most of them." The two men chuckled quietly.
"Her? I'm not sure I have, how old is that guy?" he continued to chuckles quietly.
"Not much older than us I think but he's a walking encyclopaedia of rock," Eks was enjoying having his old school friend back in town. The drummer Danny didn't talk much, but he had stuck with him as the band line-up changed a few years ago to include his brother and Suzie and they dropped the dopers that used to play with them when they weren't too wasted to play that was. "Better get this show on the road now that the gangs all here." He walked over to where Harry and Suzie stood next to Danny's drum kit.
Quade relaxed as the band all seemed to be talking and sharing a clip of something on one of their phones. Red Grant and John each held a camera and seemed to be waiting for them to start. The drummer counted them in, and they launched into the first of the three songs they wanted to record. They did it several times under the direction of Red and his crew, and Quade took orders from them as well as the song was perfected. It had taken hours just to get the one song down, the camera work done from every angle and the sound mixed the way Red wanted it.
"Can we use this space over the weekend?" Red asked walking toward Quade.
"I don't see why not but it's deemed as a residential area, so noise restrictions kick in about ten, so as long as your careful not to antagonise anyone," he said wanting to hang out with the band more.
"No problem we can go unplugged after ten if we're still working, need to break for food soon too," he smiled and patted his belly. "Alright, our new friend says we can use this space for the weekend so rather than rushing the other two I suggest we give them a go tomorrow. Unless anyone has anything pressing they can't miss," he looked around at the group who all nodded and mumbled their assent. "No need to act so enthusiastic, it's me and my crew who have to piece all that footage together into something worthy of YouTube fame."
"Let's break for food then," Eks said.
"As soon as Suzie sings, we can call it a night," Red grinned.
"Yeah alright, can you film it on my phone for me," she agreed surprising Red. "It's for my mum's birthday on Sunday.
"Keep your phone we'll film it properly for ya," he tossed the phone back.
"I'm only doing it once," she warned him.
"Yeah we'll see. If your filming for your mum you might wanna change your shirt, pit stains don't really go with the happy birthday theme," he laughed.
Quade watched as she looked down and wrinkled her nose and sighed. She put her guitar down and crossed her arms over and grabbed the hem of her shirt and pulled up over her head tossing it to the side. Then took up her guitar again.
"What? You see more skin than this on any beach. Give me a break," she said to the stunned expressions of Grant and John. "Let's do it." She began playing a series of chords in an oddly familiar tune to Quade, who hadn't taken his eyes off her. Stepping up to the mic she began to sing, "When the little blue bird who has never said a word starts to sing."
"It's spring, its spring" Eks had stepped in beside her to add the backup vocal making her smile.
"When the little bluebell at the bottom of the well starts to ring," she continued. "Ding dong, Ding dong," Eks answered.
After the final opening lines, the band launched into the Joan Jett version of Cole Porter's classic, Let's Fall in Love. From where Quade stood it was amazing and so was she as she sang in a deep raspy voice and bounced around the stage. He wasn't sure her mother would appreciate the bra and the bouncing breasts that threatened to hypnotise him, but maybe she wouldn't notice in the same way he did.
"That was fan-fucking-tastic," Red applauded. "When did you add that to your repertoire?"
"She wanted a gift for her mum's birthday, and she's broke as usual, so she made us help," Harry chuckled. "It's the big five-oh," he added as an after-thought.
"You guys eat, I need a shower," Suzie said picking up the discarded shirt.
"My place is close we could get take out and a few beers and look at what the guys have filmed if you want?" Quade offered not ready for the night be over yet and after the rocky start this morning and not sure how she would take the invitation if he made it to her individually.
"This guy is gold," Red laughed, "Let's do it!"
"Yeah alright as long as I can have a shower there," Suzie agreed in the face of everyone else's enthusiasm.
*****
It was two in the morning, and Suzie stepped out onto the balcony where Quade sat nursing a beer. The guys were still huddled around the computer playing with the special effects package John had brought with him. She breathed in the cool night air and looked up at the stars before turning to face him.
"You did a lot for us today, I hope you're not expecting," she left the word hanging for him to fill in the blanks.
"No expectations but I would like a proper date. I mean I was trying to ask if I could see you again last night before you dragged me home and took advantage of me," he said innocently.
"I did no such thing!" She protested.
"Hey I'm not complaining," he laughed. "I don't mind a girl who likes to take the lead."
"You wouldn't want to complain," she said giving him a hard look before smiling, "I might have come on a little strong last night," she admitted. "I don't drink that much usually.
"Like I said I'm not complaining, and there're no expectations for a repeat tonight, especially with all your would-be protectors in the next room but a proper date might be nice, don't you think?" He said easily.
"I don't think I have been on an actual date since, well, since ever. Guys I meet usually come to the gigs, and we hang out after or at home. I'm not even sure that Harry and I had a proper date in high school. What does a proper date consist of exactly?"
"I guess it depends on the couple but to start with how about dinner and maybe a walk along the river to get to know each other. I mean for you to get to know me and what a great catch I am," he chuckled. "I already know you work for your dad. You play in a kick-ass band and even though you have a wonderful voice, you don't like to be centre stage. I know that you used to date Harry in high school and that he regrets breaking up with you. Let's see what else?"
"I know you're a friend of Eks," she said defensively.
"I am, we went to school together and kept in touch through Uni," he confirmed. "Then I took a job sailing around the world for the last couple of years, so we have a bit to catch up on, including the band which is why I was there last night."
"Sailing around the world sounds cool," she said.
"It wasn't as cool as it sounds but it had its moments," he said thoughtfully watching her yawn. "Why don't you go and get a couple of hours sleep?" he suggested. "You can use my bed, I promise not to take advantage of you."
"I should go home, I need to change my clothes before getting back into this clip thing tomorrow," she shook her head.
"How about a compromise, you sleep for a few hours, and then I'll drive you home to change and pack a bag with a few clean shirts and then take you for breakfast, it could be our first date. You know to spend some time alone together," he suggested." As long as you promise not to take advantage of me again that is."
"Yeah, I'm not promising anything, but sleep sounds wonderful right now," she laughed softly finding herself liking him more than she thought she would.
"Besides," he grinned, "You're not really dressed to be going anywhere right now." He enjoyed the sight of her in one of his Greenpeace T-shirts, her long slim legs looking even longer under its short length. "Not that I am complaining," he continued to smile at her. "You look better in that shirt than I ever did."
"Yeah you just don't have the legs for it," she laughed. "Thanks for the bed," she touched his shoulder lightly as she walked back into the apartment.
"So you're the new guy huh?" Harry said belligerently walking out onto the balcony a few minutes later.
"So you're the old guy huh?" Quade returned the words. Neither confirming or denying the statement.
"We're gonna take off and get some sleep," Eks said from the doorway behind him making Quade turn around to look up at him. "You doing your jealous ex-boyfriend speech?" He asked Harry. "She made it pretty clear earlier she didn't want you to do this."
"She's my best friend I'm just looking out for her," Harry rolled his eyes at his brother.
"It's alright I get it," Quade said in a friendly tone. "You care about her, and if I hurt her in anyway, I will have to deal with you, is that about the gist of it?"
"Nailed it," Eks laughed. "Can we go now?'
"Yeah alright," Harry said in a frustrated tone not being happy about being robbed of his moment.
Quade stood and farewelled the guys looking back at the mess they had left behind as he shut the door. He cleaned up quietly thinking of the girl asleep in the other room and lay on the couch conscious of their talk about no expectations. He was glad to have run into Eks a few days ago. He had gone straight to working for his uncle upon his return and hadn't had a chance to resurrect any of his old friendships and social groups. He'd had fun today, and if he was honest with himself, he wanted to get together with Suzie. She was the coolest girl he had ever met, and he could see himself being happy in a relationship with her. He fell asleep thinking of the night they had spent together at her place.
In the wee hours of the morning, he felt her squeeze onto the couch with him moulding into his body with her back to his chest. "What's wrong?" he whispered sleepily.
"I don't like sleeping alone in a strange place," she whispered. "Shh, go back to sleep."
"I'm glad you're here," He whispered wrapping an arm around her and kissing the side of her neck below the ear softly. "This would probably be more comfortable in the bed, though."
"I didn't want to wake you," she whispered back.
"I'm awake now," he moved his hips slightly away from her, and she realised just how awake he was becoming. "Let's go back to bed."
"It's nice and cosy here," she whispered with a giggle squirming her ass back against his hard on making him groan softly into her ear and kiss her gently there again.
"I won't be responsible for what might happen," he rocked his hips forward teasingly and nipped at her earlobe.
"And that would be a bad thing because?" she laughed softly.
He grabbed her then, taking her in his arms, kissing her deeply and murmuring, "You had your chance and didn't take it, now you're stuck on the couch with me."
Wrapping his arms around her, he kissed her gently but passionately. Suzie wrapped her arms around his shoulders matching his kiss with her own, their tongues rolling in a delicious dance with each other. He moved to hover above her as she lay back on the couch, her head resting on the well-padded arm. Quade kissed down her neck and torso as he lifted her shirt leaning back slightly as she helped him pull it off revealing the absence of the bra she had worn earlier during filming.
He lowered his head to the soft flesh of the tops of her breasts kissing lightly there. He took his time exploring each nipple, sucking them between his lips into his mouth and rolling his tongue around them sending tendrils of pleasure through Suzie. She closed her eyes and arched her back enjoying the sensation as he lowered his hands to begin to remove her panties without her getting up.
Lost in the attention of his skilful hands and mouth Suzie revelled in the feelings he gave her. She wiggled and manoeuvred at the touch of his hands so that he could move her panties down her bare legs and discard them. Quade pulled her up slightly and kissed her deeply as his hands glided down over her naked body.
She moaned softly into his kiss. Her hands tried to lift the shirt he was wearing, so he sat up looking down at her and grinned as he pulled it over his head discarding it to the floor beside them. Remaining sitting he lightly ran his fingers up her ribs and around the swell of her breasts causing her skin to become goose-bumped. Looking up into his eyes Suzie could see the desire in his eyes, and it made her melt inside with the need that rose quickly within her, she reached for him then, and he leant back down to kiss her. She ran her fingers down over his chest to the band of his underwear. They continued to kiss as Suzie began to massage his cock through the soft cotton of his underwear.
Quade's fingers began to move and press into the folds of flesh in her pussy. He noted how wet she was from his teasing of her body, her pleasure even more evident to him now than the soft moans and mewling noises she made. He was enjoying this slow exploration of the girl below him, and he ran his fingers over her swelling clit, smiling at the quiver it elicited in her body. He continued to tease her as her hand moved below the waistband of his underwear to circle his cock and stroke him gently eliciting a low groan of his own.
Suzie moaned and bucked her hips slightly as he left his thumb to rotate and tease at her clit, the fingers of his hand curling around her pussy and pushing one inside. Using their hands alone, each began the rocking, pumping motion of sex until with two fingers crammed into her tight pussy Suzie arch up and back calling out her first climax to the room and shaking with its impact.
Quade swallowed her cry with deep soul-searching kisses until she bucked up hard against him, and they fell to the floor below the couch. Grinning having fallen on top of him, Suzie began to follow the path that he had taken on her body. She kissed down his neck as her hands worked his underwear down over his hips. She kissed down his chest as he stroked her hair, manoeuvring to kneel beside his legs and pull his underwear away. He lifted his hips and kicked them away as they reached his ankles.
His cock stood up from his groin proudly, and she reached out fondling it gently and guiding it to her lips. Surprising him, she did not take it immediately into her mouth but rather extended her tongue and licked from under the head of his cock, down the shaft and over his balls making him groan deeply with pleasure. She repeated the motion in reverse and swirled her tongue around the tip and fluttered her eyelashes as she looked up at him. Over and again she teased him until finally she lowered her mouth over his cock and began to suck.
It took only a few minutes before he groaned and pulled her up wrapping his arms around her he rolled her to her back again. He entered her without preliminaries and began to pound long deep and hard into her willing body. Suzie wrapped her legs up around his hips, overwhelmed by the aggressive passion in his fucking she rocked her hips to meet his thrusts and mewled loudly in pleasure.
"Fuck!" he roared as he came minutes later. Pushing into her harder and harder until he finally collapsed on top of her wrapping his arms around her. She buried her face in his shoulder breathing heavily and holding him tightly as they both came back down to earth. Quade rolled off her to his back letting her breathe again and smiled.
He rolled to his side pulling her to face him and kissing her deeply, "I've wanted to do that since we woke up this morning. Yesterday morning?" He questioned.
"I am starving, come on let's see what's in the kitchen." Suzie stood and went to gather her panties, but he snatched them out of her hands, "You may as well get used to being naked with me if we are going to be a couple eventually." He grinned at her and raised a questioning eyebrow.
"Let's just relax and see how it goes," She replied with a grin to match his. She hadn't felt this comfortable and confident with a guy since Harry, and she savoured the feeling at that moment. The truth was that if he had come into the bedroom and tried to sleep with her rather than taking the couch, she would have written him off as a jerk like most of the guys she met. He was different, though, and she liked spending time with him in an uncomplicated way.
"Why don't we have a shower and go out for that breakfast date you promised me, then" he suggested hopefully. "By the time we swing past your place and pick up some stuff the Coffee Club will be open or there is a cool little café close by to the office where the gear is."
"Okay, you can shower first," she said making it clear that she had no intention of showering with him.
"Sure," he agreed still stepping tentatively around this girl and getting to know her likes and dislikes. "You can check the voting on that web page and tell me about it while I'm in there if you want. I like company."
"I'm more of a bathroom privacy girl myself so hurry up and don't make me wait forever," she laughed softly. "You could do with a shave too if you're planning on kissing me again this morning," she continued to laugh.
*****
They spent the morning together laughing and joking while getting to know each other better. He liked to hold hands and have physical contact with her, but she was prickly until she finally explained.
"Look I was honest last night. I haven't ever dated in the normal sense. I've never had the hand holding and sneaky kisses. I'm just not used it and honestly, it's a bit weird," she said after pulling away from him slightly when he went to kiss her after breakfast.
"So you haven't done it before, doesn't mean you can't. I've never dated such a ballsy girl before who was as honest and upfront as you. All relationships take some getting used to but we have a connection and chemistry, and that's something you can't manufacture or get used to. It's either there or it's not," he said. "We're just two people enjoying getting to know each other. I'm not asking you to marry me or anything. Just hold my hand and maybe a little show of public affection now and then, so I know I haven't been friend zoned just yet."
"You are definitely in the friend zone, but that's a good thing where I am concerned and I am open to more, it's just gonna take a little getting used to. Guys, I sleep with aren't usually anything more than that, just sex and afterglow. The ones I am interested in don't usually make it past Harry's jilted lover routine," she sighed.
"I can see how that might cause some issues but I heard what you said to him yesterday, and I don't scare so easily," he laughed.
"I'm assuming this walk along the river involves hand holding then," she grinned and took his hand in her own. You did say that was part of the date right?"
"Sure unless you want to go back to my place and relax before we meet the guys," he said suggestively.
"Let's walk," she laughed
They walked along the river bank pathways stopping every so often to sit on a bench. She asked about his work for Greenpeace and what he was doing now he was back in town. He asked about her future goals and was surprised to find that she had deferred her degree at the Conservatorium of Music to concentrate on making the band work for a year. While guitar was her first love, she was gifted with a range of instruments and wanted to compose in the future.
"I don't have the vocal range to sing well enough, and I am happy as part of the band, I don't need or want to be out front. Despite what Red wants, Eks is far better at it than me," she admitted.
"You sounded pretty good to me," he said sincerely. "You should do it more often."
She scoffed at the idea as they walked back toward the office building together. "Yesterday I wanted to sing, I don't normally sound that good, trust me."
"I think you should blow Red's mind and sing one of the songs he suggests one day, you know he only picks those songs so you'll fight with him and end up singing anyway," Quade said with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "You've got the perfect voice to do Chrissy Amphlett, all that raspy sexiness."
They arrived at the offices before anyone else and unlocked going up to the room where their stuff was. She picked up her guitar and began to pluck at the strings without plugging it in.
"Why don't you do an acoustic version of the song for your mum that you did yesterday and I'll get it on your phone just in case the guys haven't finished cutting it together yet?" Quade suggested.
"Because I don't have an acoustic guitar," she laughed.
"No need, I'm here," John said walking into the room, "I finished it this morning. Have a look before I upload it for you."
"This isn't for online," Suzie said aghast. "It's a birthday thing for my mum."
"Yeah but it's awesome and imagine how cool she will think it is to have her daughter saying she loves her go viral." John enthused. He took a seat at the makeshift table they had set up yesterday and opened his laptop.
The opening vision was of Suzie surrounded by her friends at Quade's place the night before all yelling, "Happy Birthday, Mum!" then it closed into a tight shot of her saying, "I love you mum I hope you like this." She watched as the screen changed into still shots of the band members with goofy credits. The guy with rhythm flashed in crazy writing over Harry's head and It's all about the bass lit up the screen with Eks. Boom, Boom, Boom, flashed around a still of Danny and Rock chick sat over her head, followed by rocks filling up the screen and disappearing again one by one to reveal the beginning of the song.
"You have to let him put that online," Quade said.
"I guess," she said uncertainly. The guy was a genius he had made them all look so cool with the editing and effects he used interspersed with stills taken the night before when they had gone back to Quade's place to eat. "Let's wait and see what the guys say. We aren't a covers band after all."
"I went and saw the Foo Fighters a few weeks ago, and they did covers of other people's stuff, it's cool," John said, "No one will think you are selling out especially as it's pretty obvious that you made it for your Mums birthday."
"Who's selling out?" Harry asked as he entered followed by Eks and Danny.
"Suzie's worried that it will look like you guys are if we upload the Cole Porter song. Even the biggest stars do covers occasionally. It's not a big deal, and it looks awesome if I do say so myself," John brought it up on the screen and pressed play while they gathered around him.
"Okay, quick vote. Upload?" all hands except Suzie's went up. "Don't upload?" Suzie put both her hands up knowing she'd been outvoted.
"This is why I won't sing any of your pervy songs," she poked a finger into Red chest and stormed over to her guitar before storming back. "At least, let me give it to her first before you plaster it all over the net." There was a general murmur of agreement as she stalked away again.
Realising this was not the time to follow her and console her flexing the new boyfriend muscle he thought he had, he watched her go remaining silent. It was Red who spoke up ignoring her tantrum and the finger she had poked into his chest.
"Starred in one clip and now your diva. Do you want to see the other song we shot yesterday even though Eks sang the lead?" he called out after her.
"Don't start with me," she said menacingly and walked back to watch the other clip. "This is all your fault, and you know it."
"I do, and you still haven't thanked me properly. As you used the song yesterday for your own selfish interests you owe me another one," he said as if it made the most sense in the world.
"It's online already?" She was surprised.
"We uploaded last night before we all went home," he shrugged. "That Aprilfool's Day prank has given us a lot of exposure. We may not be winning in the voting but we aren't last, and that's a bonus. Some of those bands have been playing together for a lot longer and at a lot of different venues. They're bound to have a bigger fan base."
"The top two are cover bands," Grant added having gone home and looked at the competition now that he had joined the team supporting this band.
"Alright let's get this done, we'll do one of ours and one with Suzie on lead vocal," the usually quiet Danny announced and clapped his sticks together loudly making them all look at him in amazement. "I have a song I'd like to hear you sing," he said quietly as they walked over to their instruments.
"Nothing pervy," she warned him with a scowl.
"Would I do that?" He laughed, and they spent the next few hours perfecting one of their songs and having it filmed from a million angles. Until everyone was well and truly sick of it, then they took a break for some food that Red's girlfriend had brought over.
"Which song," Suzie asked quietly sitting beside Danny. Quade joined them and looked at Danny curiously.
"I looked up the original of that song you sang yesterday, man it's old and it got me thinking, so I found this," he tossed her his phone that showed a guitarist belting the hell out of My Favourite Things from The Sound of Music.
"That's cool but it would take me forever to transcribe it and learn it," Suzie said.
"Got ya covered," he pulled a roll of sheet music out of his bag. "Amazing what ya can find when ya look. You could play that in your sleep," he grinned.
"Don't suppose you have the words too?" She asked.
"As a matter of fact," he delved deeper into his bag.
Suzie spent over an hour going over the song and listening to the guitar piece on youtube as they ate and joked around. She liked it. It was a cool twist of an iconic song and knowing what Red would suggest, she decided to give it a go having some fun with the new tune. She got up and plugged her guitar back in and began to play, singing along quietly trying to get the cadence of the words right in her head, while she had the option of having the words right in front of her.
The boys came back one by one slowly improvising behind her and Quade went to the sound board and dropped their instruments slightly so that her guitar sang out hiding their slight mistakes. It was almost ten that evening when they did the last take and wrapped it up.
"Pizza and beer at your place while we edit?" Red asked Quade.
"Sure if you want," he was happy to be as involved as they let him.
"Harry, can you take my amp?" Suzie asked, "I parked at his place today, so I didn't have to worry about getting a parking ticket."
"May as well leave it we need to get that third track down tomorrow. We planned to do three this weekend," Harry said.
"We've done four!" She argued. "It's mum's birthday I gotta be there by lunchtime, so I can't do it tomorrow. Do one without me and just dub me in later, you don't need me for a few of the songs. Or Eks can do my part, and Red can find another bass player either way. I don't want to hold things up but I promised my Dad, and he doesn't ask me to promise very often."
"Sorry guys but Sundays are a bust in residential area's you've got even less time to make noise," Quade said apologetically. "I could maybe find you something in a business district for next weekend if your keen."
"Even God rested on the seventh day, Harry. I could use a day off too," Danny said. "Can I come and pick up my kit in the morning, though? She's a bitch to move in the dark especially down stairs like that."
"No problem just give me a call when you're coming, and I'll give you a hand," Quade said easily.
Suzie felt herself start the fade as the clock neared midnight and went into the bedroom to lay down. Quade took up his usual chair on the balcony and let the guys do their thing around the dining room table. It was closer to three when they left, and he didn't bother cleaning up. After the night before he didn't bother with the couch either but rather climbed carefully into bed so as not to wake her.
They both woke in the morning to the sound of his phone, and he rolled over snatching it from the bedside table.
"Hello?" he murmured sleepily and recognised his mother's voice asking him to have dinner with them and some old friends who had asked after him, that night. Since he knew Suzie was busy, he agreed half-heartedly and hung up.
"Seems we both have family stuff on tonight," he rolled back towards her laying a hand over her waist. "Good morning," he said kissing her softly. She nuzzled into his neck moving against him and sliding a hand down his body to his cock.
"Lend me your toothbrush and I'll show you what a good morning it could be," she murmured.
"Help yourself to a new one," he grinned. "Bottom drawer below the sink.
"One bathroom, one person," she shook her head as he tried to follow her.
"Fine, I'll brush in the kitchen," he snatched up his brush and let her put a dab of toothpaste on it before dashing to the kitchen.
Quade walked in seeing her naked on the bed and felt his arousal heighten at the sight. Following her every movement he pounced on her kissing her deeply. He leaned back and looked down at her again a small smile playing over his lips. His hand came up to brush his fingertips over her cheek, down the side of her neck and over her shoulder teasing the sensitive skin.
"Well," Suzie wriggled against him, "Are you going to fuck me?"
"Maybe," Quade murmured huskily, "But you didn't say please," he teased her even though they both knew he was about to do just that. His kiss was as gentle as a butterfly at first. The next movement of his mouth brought a little more pressure, her lips opened slightly at the feel of the tip of his tongue gently teasing the tender flesh of her lower lip.
"Please," the soft moan escaped her lips. His fingers tightened around the back of her neck, and he pulled her body closer to his, deepening the kiss, leaving no doubt about his intentions. He wrapped his arms tightly around her; one across her shoulders and the other under the curve of her bottom, then he rolled to his back, taking her with him in one fluid movement. Her bright green eyes widened in surprise at finding herself neatly planted atop him, her thighs splayed on either side of his hips. Rolling her hips, she could feel the hard ridge of him pressed into the soft flesh of her pussy.
Bracing her hands on either side of his head, she pushed herself up. Her sleep tousled hair fell in a curtain across her face to tickle at his chest, and a wicked grin spread across her lips as she lifted her hips a fraction of an inch and arched her back, rolling her hips again and pressing down onto his hard cock. She heard his breath hiss in through his clenched teeth, and she peeked at him through her lashes, and wiggled a little more, setting him more firmly into her moist folds.
Grinning at having affected him enough to hear a muffled groan and feel his hands reach for her hips, to still her movements, Suzie stilled her movement. Having kept her still for several moments Quade relaxed back and gazed up at her, a sinful smile on his face as one hand quickly left her hip and smacked her ass. As she yelped in surprise, he quickly pulled her back down on top of him and kissed her deeply.
His dark eyes were bright with undisguised lust as she began to rotate her hips pressing down onto him again. Her eyes closed, and small white teeth glinted behind warm pink lips as she bent to nibble his neck, paying particular attention to the tender spot just below his ear. She distantly registered his hands gliding lower to cup her bottom. He lifted her slightly away from him so that she could feel his cock glide between the hot wet folds of her pussy. Sinking her teeth into his neck to distract him slightly she reached back and took his hands pulling them up over his head trying to pin him to the bed. She knew she couldn't restrain him if he wanted to be loose, but it excited her to have him at her mercy if only for a short time.
Quade raised his eyebrow at her and smirked, and she leaned forward to lick over the bite mark she had left on his neck. She heard his soft moan and grinned to herself as she licked her way down his throat to his chest, nibbling here and there. Her tongue flicked out and gently teased his nipple knowing this would excite him, his hips insistently pushing up into her proving that she had learned something about him over the last two days, and a thrill ran through her when he finally broke free of her grasp his hands moving to her rotating hips once more.
Enjoying being the tease she wriggled free of his hands once more and slid down the length of his body, pausing to nip the flat belly with her teeth. She was on her knees between his legs, running her hands up his thighs. Looking up at him, she lowered her head, taking his hardness into her mouth.
His legs tensed, and his fingers twined into her hair, she smiled around his cock, running her tongue up the underside of his shaft. She felt his little shiver and slid her mouth back down on him, taking all of him and feeling him press into the back of her throat.
Her left hand curved under his balls and cupped him, stroking with soft, gentle fingers. She felt him pulsing on her lips, and she moved down onto him. His fingers twined further into her hair, his hips thrusting up gently into her mouth, making her gag slightly. She distantly heard him moan, and she gave a small whimper in response. She felt herself clench and knew she wanted him inside her. She lifted her head and looked up to see his lust filled gaze on her.
Quade decided that she had had her way long enough and pulled slightly at her hair that was wrapped around his fingers he led her back up his body. With the grace of an athlete, he changed their positions pushing her down onto the bed and rearing up above her.
It was his turn to taste the sweetness of her skin, his tongue running down a similar path to one Suzie had travelled down his body. He loved her breasts, the small pale pink nipples that were short and puckered sweetly between his lips making her breasts rise into pointed mounds of flesh. His hands rested on her breasts as he kissed his way down her body nipping the soft skin below her navel and rolling over her flat belly.
His hands spread her thighs wide and his nipped at the soft flesh listening to her sigh in pleasure. He placed extra pressure on her thighs watching the lips of her pussy part and leaned forward to flick his tongue over the centre of her being at that point in time. A grin curled his lips again as he felt the shock of pleasure ripple through her making her thighs tremble and his cock harden impossibly more so.
His lips closed over the tiny bud, and he began to whip it gently with his tongue. Her fingers threaded into his hair, pulling his mouth closer to her as her hips came off the bed to meet him. Her lips parted with soft whimpering gasps. He ran his hand up her thigh and slowly entered her, first one then two fingers marvelling at how hot and wet she was. She moaned, thrusting her hips upward once again onto the fingers and into his mouth. His tongue began to work at her faster, and he could feel her wetness begin to coat his hand. Her muscles tightened around his fingers, and he knew she was close to the edge of that abyss of pleasure that would wrack her body and leave her weak and trembling in his arms.
Pulling free of her grappling hands Quade rose above Suzie again guiding his throbbing cock into her. He slid in only a frustrating fraction at a time, and the excruciating slowness of his movements nearly sent them both over the edge.
Finally, embedded in her to the hilt he felt her muscles grip him and a groan of pleasure rumbled from his throat as he began to fuck her. He guided her legs up the length of his body from where they had wrapped around his hips essentially doubling her in half and watching her breath shorten even more as she cried out her need.
Suzie dragged her fingernails down Quade's back enjoying the added grunts of pleasure he issued. He stiffened moaning her name and unable to hold back the tide began thrusting harder into her wanting her to come with him. He looked at the glazed eyes and wide panting mouth of the incredible girl he had captured and groaned loudly as he came. She matched him completely, and he felt the muscles around his cock pulse with it milking the cum from him to mix with her own.
Quade collapsed beside her, allowing Suzie to unfurl her legs and they both lay breathing raggedly for long minutes. Suzie turned to look at him leaning up on her elbow and smiled crookedly. She was glad he had been persistent. He had a way of making her laugh and take life less seriously, and he was right, you couldn't fake the chemistry that they had. What they had was incredible and could only get better from here, and as she gazed at him, she knew he felt the same.
"Taking advantage of me again," Quade smirked at her, "But I guess I can't blame you I am a sexy b**st!" He rolled out of bed and shook his ass at her strolling to the bathroom as she laughed and threw a pillow at him.
"You know," she said in a strange tone when he returned to the bedroom making him worry that she was reverting to the feeling of regret he had seen on her face yesterday morning. "Now that we have got that whole sex thing out of the way, do you think I could get your phone number?"
"Geez, I dunno, that sounds like an awfully big commitment. What if you start calling me at work and in the middle of the night," he shook his head seriously. She hit him with another pillow making him laugh, and he wrestled her back down onto the bed and kissed her. "Of course, you can silly woman. You were the one playing hard to get."
"Well you got me so hand over your phone," she laughed. He rolled onto his back and reached one hand out for his phone grabbing it and passing it to her. He watched as she put her number into his contacts and texted herself.
So if this dinner with the olds doesn't go too late do you wanna get together later tonight?" He asked trying to seem casual but unable to hide that fact that he couldn't get enough of her.
"Call me when you're done and we'll see how things look on my end, I doubt it will be a late night," she smiled.

"Why am I invited to this thing?" Quade asked again as he fixed his tie in the hallway mirror of his parent's house.
"Because even though you obviously don't remember, Rebecca was my best friend and neighbour for almost ten years when you were little. You and their daughter spent a great deal of time together. You told us that you were going to marry Susan one day," Jane, his mother explained again.
"I hope you're not still waiting for that to happen because I have met someone," he said with a smile.
"Wonderful and when do we meet this someone?" she asked with a knowing smile.
"When I get around to it," he chuckled. "It's new, so I don't want to scare her that much yet."
"Come on Carl, we're going to be late," Jane yelled up the stairs. "Honestly, the man spends more time in front of the mirror these days than I do."
"I heard that," Carl said hurrying down the stairs. He grabbed his keys and looked at them, "Well let's go, you two can't stand around here chatting all night."
Despite them being overly inquisitive about every facet of his life, Quade really did love his parents and enjoyed hanging out with them now and then. What he didn't like was having to sit in the back seat like a c***d so he offered to drive so they could enjoy a drink at the dinner.
The drive over was punctuated with laughter and teasing, and he pulled up outside of a big house that bordered on mansion proportions. "Are you sure they live here?" Quade asked.
"That's the address we got," his father said from the passenger seat checking the address on the invitation. Quade pulled over feeling glad he had worn the dark suit rather than the jeans and a jacket that his parents had advised against.
"I'm so glad you came!" Bob exclaimed opening the door. "I haven't told the girls they are gonna be so surprised."
"They're not the only ones," Quade mumbled recognising Suzie's father from the auto repair shop and wondering how Suzie was going to feel about being ambushed like this.
"It took me a while after seeing you yesterday to connect all the dots, but I knew I'd met you before, I never forget a face," he grinned. "Good to see you again Quade."
"Yeah, I'm a little confused here," Quade said carefully.
"No worries I can fix that. Come on in and we'll find the girls," Bob said grinning from ear to ear. They walked through the house to the backyard where a small crowd of middle-aged couples mingled and chatted.
"Rebecca looks who's here," he called out to his wife leading them forward. Quade held back walking behind them worried about how Suzie would react to seeing him here in her parent's house.
"Oh my God, Jane!" Rebecca exclaimed coming forward to embrace her old friend. "It's been so long.
"Too long," Jane agreed, and they laughed.
"How are you, Carl?" Rebecca greeted him with a soft embrace and kissed his cheek.
"I'm well thank you, it's good to see you," he smiled. "You remember our son Quade?" He said stepping to the side to reveal his son more fully.
"Oh gosh yes! He and Susan were inseparable when they were little. She's around here somewhere. You probably wouldn't recognise now, though," Rebecca smiled. "oh do you remember when they were little, and they were determined to get married so that they could live in the same house," she laughed casting her eyes around the small crowd for her daughter. "Susan," she called loudly seeing her talking to a family friend.
Quade watched as a girl in a pale pink tailored dress turned to look at her mother. His eyes widened at the lack of the eye make-up she preferred and the presence of an Alice band holding back her hair that bounced around her shoulders. He saw her eyes widen to match his own, and she hurried across to where he stood with his parents.
"What are you doing here?" she said, "I thought you had a thing with your parents."
"I do, this is my Mum, Jane and my Dad, Carl," Quade introduced his parents unable to help the chuckle that accompanied it at her question. "We were invited weren't we, Mum? I mean we're not gate crashing this shindig?" he looked back up at Suzie.
"Of course, they were invited, Jane is one of my oldest friends," her mother turned on her. "That was a very rude way to greet your Aunt Jane," she said disapprovingly.
"Aunt Jane? I don't remember having an Aunt Jane," she shook her head. "If this is some elaborate joke that you're all in on then you're two days late for Aprilfools and it's not very funny."
"It's a surprise to me too," Quade said as she looked at him accusingly lifting his hands up in surrender.
"I can clear this up," Bob said stepping between his wife and daughter wrapping an arm around each of them. "Quade here came into the shop on Friday looking for Suzie, seems they have been seeing each other. I didn't recognise him straight away, but once I worked out who he was, I thought what a great time to catch up with old friends and bring our two little lovebirds back together."
"Back together?" Suzie asked. "We only met a few days ago."
"Apparently I proposed to you about twenty years ago, and you accepted. It's been such a long engagement I'm afraid we've both forgotten it," Quade couldn't help but laugh at the strangeness of the situation.
"You didn't even buy me a ring," she complained looking down at her bare fingers.
"I was ten if that. It was probably a candy one which you would have eaten. Do you think the engagement still counts if the girl you propose to eats the ring?" he asked with a perfectly straight face.
"I think it just means you have to buy her a new one that she can't eat," Suzie grinned.
"See I didn't know that, I thought the engagement was off when you scoffed it down. I've been broken-hearted these past twenty years unable to move on with my life," he put a hand to his chest and shook his head sadly.
"Oh stop that," Jane swatted her son, "You're not as funny as you think you are."
"Let me get you both a drink," Bob said. "It will be fun to catch up a little." He led the couple to the bar with his wife.
"You look different," Quade said moving to kiss her and finding her cheek instead of her lips as she turned her head to the side. "I had no idea, honestly," he said quietly.
"I believe you, but if they think I'm dating a nice boy from a nice family she will be in there talking wedding plans with your mother before the night is over."
"They probably already are," he chuckled. "Let them talk about what they want it's not like we have to agree with them."
"You don't know my mother, I mean look at me," Suzie groaned.
"I have been, your beautiful, it doesn't matter what you wear, I like you for who you are, rock chick as well as Mummy's good girl," he chuckled.
"Says the man in the suit and tie," she accused making him chuckle.
"I wear a suit to work every day," he shrugged. "Maybe if you wanted to show me where we used to play, say your room, you could persuade me to take it off for you," he murmured.
"How about I get you a glass of ice to cool you down," she suggested with a soft laugh. Despite herself, she was glad that he was there.
"I doubt that would work, but I will have a drink with that ice," he grinned. "Did your Mum like the clip you made her?"
"She hasn't seen it yet," she said as she led him to the bar, "Dad has some big nostalgic trip down memory lane planned for her."
Quade and Suzie circulated around the party together for the rest of the evening much to their parent's delight. The inevitable questions about the future, when they would be settling down and creating a family of their own which Suzie had been dreading since his arrival, Quade seemed to swat away effortlessly with a joke or a compliment about their own family. She had to admit she was impressed by how well he handled the situation they found themselves in when she felt hideously under a microscope.
A buffet dinner was served, and people took seats at long tables mingling freely. Suzie's father asked her to sit with them as they ate. For once her mother seemed happy and didn't attempt to nag her about anything. They sat talking to what seemed to be a revolving circle of family and friends who came to sit with them at various stages. As the dinner buffet was cleared away to make room for dessert, her father patted her hand and whispered, "Showtime."
Bob stood from his chair and clinked at the crystal glass he has been drinking his beer from. "I'd like to thank you all for coming tonight to celebrate my wife's birthday. Here's to family and good friends who make the celebrations in our lives so special," he raised his glass to murmurs of agreement.
"Now if you will indulge me, I'd like to take Rebecca for a trip down memory lane. The slideshow started with pictures of her as a baby and a sweet lullaby playing in the background. It paused at one particular photo and Bob invited her mother to say a few words about the young life of Rebecca. At the end of a series of teenage photos Suzie laughed loudly as her grandfather got to his feet and regaled them all with a story of Rebecca's love for Joan Jett and how she too planned to become a runaway rock star just like her.
"I didn't though. I got my degree and look at me now," her mother whispered to her meaningfully as the slide show started again. Suzie decided it was best to say nothing given their attentive audience and bit her tongue. The continuing photos showed Rebecca in her early twenties, her marriage to Bob and the birth of Suzie right through until recent years. Then Bob halted the show again and stood to smile at his audience and wife.
"My wife's love of Joan is still there, it's never wavered and in all the time I have loved her I have come a poor second to Joan," he said sadly to many an "aww" from his audience. Even our daughter has felt Joan's influence on our lives and rather than being jealous has also tried to embrace the love her mother has for eighties rockers and anti-heroes with her own band. So in their tribute to your birthday my love," he pressed play, and Suzie's music clip came up on the screen beginning with the bands birthday dedication.
"Oh my God, that's my favourite song!" she exclaimed hugging Suzie to her and began singing along until her father dragged her out of her seat and began dancing with her. He'd followed her clip with a range of songs from that era of music and the party degenerated from a staid elegant affair into a mosh pit of middle-aged punk rockers.
"We old people need our rest," Suzie's grandmother yelled over the music as Rebecca sat down to catch her breath. "That husband of yours was always a bad influence on you, Becky," she laughed.
"I know, isn't he dreamy," Rebecca said laughing loudly.
"Yes, I just hope Suzie has the same good luck before you turn her into a boring old frump before her time," the old woman laughed and snatched the Alice band from Suzie's hair. "Be yourself, Suzie, your only young once." She said with a stern voice and bent to kiss her daughter's cheek. "Happy birthday darling." Suzie sat stunned as her grandparents said their goodbyes to the table and left the party with several other older couple.
"Looks like we're in for a long night," Quade said as the dance floor reclaimed her mother.
"It's a Sunday, and they all have to work tomorrow so it won't be too late I expect," Suzie smiled. "I wouldn't bank on getting together after it, though, especially if we both have to go to work tomorrow."
"I could just come to your place, and we can dissect this party and our long engagement," he chuckled.
"Still waiting for the replacement ring," she laughed.

The band came fifth in the online voting for the Aprilfool's Day Heroes contest. That meant they didn't get a spot in the live semi-finals but the publicity generated by having the clip up on the station's web page was enough for Red to book them bigger and better gigs. It also cultivated a loyal fan base that guaranteed their gigs always went over well no matter where they played.
The rest of that year was a whirlwind for Suzie as the band took off and her mother became more accepting of her choice to defer her education in favour of living her life. In the end, she too compromised and agreed to go back to the Conservatorium as a part-time student the following year. She wanted to write music more than she ever wanted to play it and she knew she needed the training to be taken seriously.
With the band playing gigs every weekend, she and Quade took every opportunity to spend time together during the week and eventually gave up the pretence of living separate lives and moved in together in October, six months after they had started dating. Harry had finally backed off seeing how happy they were together and found a relationship of his own. Even Eks had been dating a range of people and seemed surprisingly happy to be out of the closet as bisexual.
It came as no great shock to anyone except maybe Harry when Eks asked Danny about his love life one night after a gig when the band was winding down with a few drinks almost a year after their fifteen minutes of fame had ended.
"I'm gay, so no, there is no sexy fan girly in my sights," Danny sighed after ten minutes of Eks badgering him to tell them who he was seeing.
"Okay fanboy then," Eks shrugged, "I'm not one to judge."
"I'm not seeing anyone, okay?" Danny answered with another sigh. "This is why I don't talk to you people," he huffed.
"Ooh, a reason to check out the men in the bar," Harry's girlfriend enthused. "What's your type? That guy over there is pretty cute," she suggested pointing at a tall, lanky man at the bar.
"No," he said reluctantly his eyes flickering to Eks for help.
"I'd do him," Eks said without any qualms.
"You've got a better chance of doing me than him," Danny interjected. "He's straight."
"Shame about that whole no dating band members thing, you two would make a great couple," Suzie grinned.
"Pffft, I only made that rule up so Red and Harry would stop hitting on you," Eks laughed. "Mostly Red," he amended after a pained looked from Harry.
"Great then let's do it," Danny said with a perfectly straight face. "Give me your best Sexy Eksy pick-up-line."
"Danny I think you and I could have a really stable relationship," Eks grinned trying not to laugh as he placed a hand on his crotch, "because of my horse cock!" He burst out laughing as everyone else groaned. "Get it stable, horse," he laughed harder.
"Alright, we got it, that was pretty good, take me home and I'll let you ride me," Danny said dryly making everyone laugh all the more.
"Wait! What?" Harry was staring at them in disbelief.
"It is what it is little brother," Eks got up and kissed Danny taking the seat beside him and holding his hand still struggling not to laugh.
"Shit it's twelve thirty already," Suzie looked at her watch.
"Why what's up?" Quade asked in a worried voice.
"They just stole my thunder but," she paused and turned to Quade. She slipped from her chair to one knee and held out a small box. "It's been a great year so I was wondering, would you marry me?" The table went silent, and they all watched as Quade sat there stunned for long minutes. Then she grinned and opened to box to reveal a yellow plastic ring with a huge blue diamond shaped lollipop on the top.
"Oh my God, Yes! Of course, I will marry you," his hand fluttered out in front of him. "Put it on put it on!" He squealed like a girl.
"We might have to get it resized," Suzie giggled and took the ring pushing it halfway up his finger before it stopped moving.
"I don't care it's the most beautiful ring in the world," he held it up in front of his face and cried, "Oh I'm getting married! I'm so happy! You can all be bridesmaids!"
"What the fuck is going on over here," Red growled angrily as he came back from schmoozing with the manager to see what all the laughter was about.
"As far as I can tell," Harry's girlfriend frowned. "Eks and Danny have just hooked up, and Suzie just proposed to Quade and they're having their wedding in Candyland judging by the ring, and these guys are going to be the bridesmaids." Red narrowed his eyes and looked at the grins on the band member's faces.
"Do you want a lick of my ring?" Quade offered holding the ring up to Red's face, and they all began laughing again.
"Just as well you're all in a good mood, we didn't get paid because that last set sucked," he said angrily.
"What?"
"He can't do that!"
"We kicked ass! Get back in there and fight for us," the band members immediately began to shout at him.
"Ah," he drew out the sound pointing around the circle at them. "Aprilfool's!" He laughed loudly. "You two can stop holding hands now," he said dismissively to Eks and Danny. "As for you," he pointed at Quade, "Get her a proper ring," he shook his head. "You can't fool a fool, your idiot's."
"In all serious," Quade stifled his laughter. "I did get her a proper ring and while I hadn't planned to do it quite like this. It's good that you're all here because, without you, we never would have found each other." He picked up his wallet and drew out a small velvet envelope. "Suzie, I know it's not as big or as pretty as the ring you gave me," he took the diamond solitaire from the small velvet case and held it up to her, but will you marry me," he asked suddenly serious and worried about her answer.
"Seriously?" Suzie looked from the ring to his face.
"Say yes, you can always change your change your mind and call it a Joke," Eks laughed.
"Seriously," Quade said with certainty.
"Yes," she grinned and held out her hand for him to slip the ring on noting that it was a perfect fit. "You can all be bridesmaids she announced to the band."
"Quade did ask me first," Eks said sadly still holding Danny's hand, "But Harry looks good in a dress, he'll swap teams I am sure, being your BFF and all."
"Only if I can be the maid of honour," Harry said with an air of finality.
"Who else would I choose," she laughed, "Wait until you see the gorgeous frock I have picked out for you." The table rang with laughter again, and she kissed Quade deeply. "I love you," she whispered when the kiss broke.
"I am one hundred percent a fool for you," he said softly, "I couldn't be happier."
