April 29, 2000, Chicago, Illinois

“I read the paper this morning, Jamie,” Pete said at breakfast on Saturday morning. “How the hell did THAT happen?”

“Just like the paper said - financial mismanagement by the managing partners.”

“How does that work?” Terry asked. “I thought you were a partner.”

“Consider it like shareholders and a board of directors. It’s not quite like that, but the partnership turns day-to-day management of the firm over to the managing partner, or partners. That was Allen & Baker, who were also the ‘named’ partners. There’s a pecking order - associates, partners, senior partners, and named partners. The managing partner - or partners - are selected from the senior or named partners and run the firm on behalf of the rest of the partnership.”

“Can you tell us what happened?” Eduardo asked. “My company is a partnership, and we have basically the same structure, though the only named partner is Egon Zehnder himself.”

“I have to be careful, but the basic gist is that we took stock in lieu of a couple of large payments and used the stock as collateral for operating capital. We also borrowed heavily for the complete remodel of the offices. When the stock market collapsed, there was a margin call.”

“Which means you were well and truly fucked if you didn’t have the cash on hand,” Bo declared emphatically. “Nothing personal Jamie, but that was immensely stupid!”

“TELL me about it!” Jamie replied. “Once we covered the margin call, we no longer had sufficient funds to continue to operate. Fortunately, the opportunity with McCarthy/Jenkins was available.”

“Let me guess,” Dave said with a grin, “someone put two and two together and made four. McCarthy/Jenkins is a big NIKA client.”

“I really can’t divulge how things came about.”

Dave smirked, “Given someone I know popped into town unexpectedly I’m pretty sure I have it figured out.”

“Just keep it to yourself, please,” Jamie said.

“Where are your new offices?” Bo asked.

“Naperville. Jackie and I are going to look for a place in the area, probably not too far from where Elyse and Eduardo built their house.”

“It’s OK if you don’t want to say, but how bad did this hurt you financially?” Howard asked.

“I don’t have a full accounting just yet, and it’s complicated by the way you initially buy in, so I’m not even sure the percentage I gave Steve yesterday is accurate. I went over things with my accountant last night and the weirdest thing he said was that because of the way it was structured, I owe myself money. On the plus side, only the senior partners are on the hook for making good on any debts to anyone outside the firm.”

“That sounds like a royal mess!” Brian said. “And I thought the Navy was fucked up!”

“You have NO idea,” Jamie said with a grin. “But, our personal finances are good and we never overspent, so we’ll be fine.”

“In VERY positive news, Clayton got his travel orders from BUPERS,” Howard declared. “He arrives in Chicago on July 8. I figure we won’t see him or Charlie until around November!”

All the men laughed.

“Any word on Karl?” I asked. “I had hoped to get to London this year, but it’s not going to work out.”

“He’s basically topped out if he doesn’t want to do a DC tour,” Brian said. “I’d expect him to retire in two years, join a major law firm, and eventually become a Federal judge. If he was willing, he’d have a good chance at Vice JAG, and if he made the right connections, JAG.”

“I take it he wants to come back to Chicago?” Terry asked.

“That’s his plan, though I think Ginny would have loved to stay in Italy!”

“Given we’re on this topic,” Brian said, “Steve, how is your dad?”

“Other than his hips bothering him, he’s in fantastic health for a man who’ll be 83 in about four months!”

“Damn! Is he coming up this summer?”

“The drive is tough on him, but he’ll have Patrick Shaughnessy fly him up at some point, and then for the usual Christmas visit. I’ll make sure he’s able to join us for breakfast.”

“Let me know,” Brian said. “I want to organize something at Great Lakes. Let some of the ‘fresh-faced recruits’ see what a real Navy hero looks like!”

“You can ask, but that’s not usually his thing.”

“I’ll get Karl to talk to him. They’ve always had a good relationship.”

“True. I’ll leave that to you Navy boys and girls!”

Pam and another waitress brought our food just then, and we all dug in. The conversation mostly revolved around sports, with the consensus being the Cubs sucked and would be lucky to not finish last in their division; the Penguins, now owned by Mario Lemieux in one of the strangest Bankruptcy Court outcomes in history, had won their first-round playoff series, the Blackhawks had missed out completely; the Bulls were equally bad; and the hapless Bears, who had missed the playoffs, didn’t show any signs of improving.

One thing bothered me, and that was that Ed had called Terry at the last minute and told him he wasn’t going to make it. That didn’t bode well, and I was tempted to call my sister, but I didn’t want to create any more problems. I decided to wait until we were in Durham to talk to her, thinking there was a good chance Ed wouldn’t show for the family dinner on Sunday evening.

When we finished eating, I left Bucktown Bistro to drive home so that Kara, my daughters, and I could head for the dojo. I’d missed quite a few practices, but there really wasn’t much I could have done about that because of the necessity of traveling. I’d run on treadmills and done my kata, so I was getting sufficient exercise, but that didn’t help my students at all. I spent most of the class working with Miyu, but also some time with Misty. When class finished, Kara, Birgit, Stephie, Ashley, and I headed home for lunch.

After lunch, Maria Cristina and I went to my study.

“I need to book the tickets for St. Martin,” I said.

“Eight?” she laughed.

“I’m not sure who’s worse - Samantha, Penny, or Kara,” I chuckled. “And I thought you wanted the romantic lovemaking session under the stars on the beach!”

“I do!”

“Then why do you want to bring a friend? Or six?”

“I thought you had fun with Samantha’s friends!”

“I did, but things have changed in the last seven years. Not to mention the fact that this seems out of character for you.”

“And you don’t think living with you, in this house, and being very close with Kara has changed my character?”

“Oh, it has, and I’m not complaining. But don’t you think that’s over-the-top? And do you seriously have six friends who’ll fly to St. Martin to have sex with me?”

Maria Cristina laughed softly, “Probably not.”

“Then let’s drop that idea, please. I could see bringing one friend to play with us, but you’ve resolutely rejected that idea, even after watching Kara and Jessica on several occasions. I don’t want you doing something because you think I want it or you think it would make me happy or because Kara does it. I want you to do what you want and what makes you happy. You know, like making love under the stars on the beach!”

“You always put it that way - that my happiness is what matters.”

“Do I seem unhappy with the circumstances?”

“No.”

“Then let’s just go together, and I can enjoy your sexy body on the beach!”

“I bet you next year I’ll have lots of friends who don’t have time for relationships!”

I chuckled, “I am NOT opening a stud service!”

“You’d turn down sexy twenty-two-year-old girls who need to work off stress?”

I laughed, “Let’s worry about that in the future. I’ll book two tickets to St. Martin. OK?”

“OK.”

“I’m sorry I won’t see you for tomorrow for dinner or our usual Sunday night together.”

“It’s OK. We’ll make up for it when you get back.”

We hugged, exchanged a soft kiss, and left my study. Maria Cristina got her bag and left to go visit her mom as she usually did, and I grabbed an overnight bag, kissed Kara and the girls goodbye, then left the house, got into my BMW, and headed for Oak Park.

“Hi!” Natalie exclaimed when she opened the door to the house. “Come in!”

“Hi!” I replied, and walked into the house.

“Nicole is upstairs in her room; it’s the first door on the left. I’m going to spend the night with Jack. See you tomorrow, if you’re here when I get home!”

“Have fun!”

“You, too!”

Natalie and I hugged, she grabbed her windbreaker, and then left the house. I went up the stairs and stopped at the open door of Nicole’s room and knocked.

“Come in!” she called out.

I opened the door and went into a room with several Pittsburgh Penguins posters on the wall, a Mario Lemieux bobblehead on the desk, and a very pretty hockey player wearing a Penguins jersey with black lace panties and nothing more.

“No autographs?” I asked with a grin.

“No.”

“Want an autographed Lemieux poster? I can get you one.”

“Seriously?”

“It’ll just take a phone call.”

“Now, if you can just arrange for me to meet Mario Lemieux.”

“Actually, that might just take a phone call as well.”

“NO WAY!”

“The only problem would be getting to Pittsburgh. The Pens played here already this season. They don’t play here again until next season. But I can get you to a game, in a sky box, and if my contact can pull it off, a trip to the Pens locker room.”

“Have you done that?!”

“No, but I’d certainly like to! I did meet Mario Lemieux last year, but he was wearing street clothing.”

“I heard you get to go to playoff games.”

I nodded, “Yes. One of my executives in Pittsburgh has season tickets, plus the guy who can arrange for the autographed poster has a skybox. I’m going to the game in Pittsburgh on the 4th.”

“Think they’ll beat the Flyers tonight?”

“They should. They had no trouble the night before last, and they beat the Capitals pretty handily.”

“We could watch the game later if you wanted. We have cable.”

“That’s up to you. I can stay until around 1:00pm tomorrow, so use your time wisely!”

“Did you bring your jersey?”

“I did.”

“The bathroom is across the hall. Jersey and undershorts.”

I nodded, dropped my bag, bent down, unzipped it, and extracted my Mario Lemieux jersey which matched the one Nicole was wearing. I turned, opened the door, and went across the hall to the bathroom. I shut the door, stripped down to my briefs, put on my jersey, then went back to Nicole’s room, shut the door behind me, and put my clothes on a chair by the door.

“What can I do for you?” I asked.

“Score?” she smirked. “You know, deke, move to the slot, and put it in the ‘five hole’?”

I remembered my joking with Tara and decided to have some fun.

“So, twitch your twine and light your lamp?” I asked.

“With a good, hard shot from the crease?” she asked.

“Start with a forecheck, hip check, backcheck, body check, and poke check? Then high sticking?”

“Too funny!”

“Or maybe a bit of roughing? Or boarding and spearing!”

“Those words are NOT going to mean the same thing to me in the future!” she laughed.

There was, of course, the LAST thing I’d said to Tara - an offer to go behind the goal and stuff it in the back door. I wasn’t sure that was the best thing to say to Nicole at this point.

“Not to put a damper on the silliness, but your test?”

“The paper is on the desk.”

I walked over to the desk and slid the paper from under the bobblehead and as expected, it was clean. I returned it to its place then took two steps to stand next to the bed. Nicole scooted to her left and patted the mattress. I moved onto the full-size bed and sat cross-legged next to her.

“Have you done anything before?” I asked.

“Other than kissing Jesse on the cheek on his birthday, no.”

“Do you like Jesse?”

“You mean like, want to kiss and stuff? No. He likes Francesca, even if her mom is a total bitch. Besides, he’s like the best brother in the world! He’s around when I need him. He doesn’t bug me and I don’t have to live with him!”

I laughed, “That sounds like the opposite of what Birgit would have said until very recently. She and Jesse are getting along a lot better.”

“I kept telling him she made a better ally than an enemy!” Nicole said with a smirk.

“So you’ve been fomenting the formation of the terrorist cell in my house!” I said with a grin.

“Natalie and I have to stick together so we can do what we want without our parents finding out. Mom found out about what happened between you and Natalie in Russia, but I guess that was kind of important for Natalie.”

“And me being here?” I asked.

“No way! Natalie knows, of course. I told her I wanted to do this after she told me everything the morning after you guys did it in St. Petersburg. But we didn’t talk about it again until maybe a month ago when I told her I was ready. But this is only between you and me. Obviously Natalie knows, but she’s spending the night with Jack for the first time, so we both have something to keep from my parents.”

“And you’re sure you want your first time to be with me?”

Nicole laughed, “After what Natalie told me? Are you KIDDING?”

She moved to sit in my lap, with my legs still crossed. She faced me, and rested her arms gently on my shoulders. I wrapped my arms lightly around her lithe body and she scooted forward just enough so that her panties came into contact why my briefs. Nicole looked deeply into my eyes then moved her head forward just a bit. I moved mine towards her and our lips touched briefly, then again, and then on the third time, pressed softly together in Nicole’s first kiss.

When I felt her lips part slightly, I tightened my arms around her and gently pressed my tongue into her mouth. When our tongues met, Nicole tightened her arms around me and ground against me. I moved my hand down and slipped it up underneath her Penguins jersey. I ran fingers along the soft skin of her back and discovered, as I had expected, she wasn’t wearing a bra. I moved my other hand so that I could slide it under the front of her jersey, then slowly slid it upwards to cup her small, firm breast.

I ran my thumb over Nicole’s nipple, and she gasped into my mouth. Our kiss became fierce and she moaned as she ground against me. I moved my hands so I could take off her jersey, but she stopped me.

“Leave it on for the first time,” she requested.

She moved off me and quickly slipped off her black panties and tossed them onto the floor. I straightened my legs and with a few contortions removed my briefs and tossed them in the same direction Nicole had tossed hers. I crossed my legs again and she moved back onto my lap, though this time I felt slick labia on my now rock-hard shaft. After we resumed kissing, I slid my hands inside her jersey and rubbed her nipple with my thumb while she ground against my erection.

She was sopping wet, and given her athletic activity, I was sure she no longer had an intact hymen, so when she broke our kiss and raised herself up, I simply moved my hand from her back and grasped my shaft. Nicole lowered herself until her labia touched my glans, then moved to kiss me. As our tongues twirled and swirled, she moved down until my glans slipped through her well-lubricated labia. She paused for a second, then pressed downwards, slowly taking my shaft into her extremely tight tunnel. She was so tight that had she not been so ridiculously wet, she’d have made no progress.

Nicole groaned into my mouth as I moved deeper and deeper inside her, finally settling onto my legs as our pubic hair meshed together. Nicole broke the kiss and took several deep breaths, then put her head on my shoulder.

“Wow,” she breathed. “You’re so big and I feel so full.”

And I felt the amazing grip of her muscles on my shaft. It had to be the skating, I thought, remembering Katt and Laura, the two previous skaters I’d been with. They’d been figure skaters, but their builds hadn’t been much different from Nicole’s. She ground gently against me, and squeezed and released her muscles, generating intense pleasure for me. After about two minutes, she shuddered and breathed out hard, and her muscles grasped me even more tightly. Her gentle orgasm, the first of what I was sure would be many, lasted for nearly a minute.

“Natalie said you could last a long time,” she sighed when her orgasm had passed. “Can we just do this for a while?”

‘Forever’ I wanted to reply, savoring the sensations as her pussy gently massaged my dick while enclosing it as securely as any rubber ever could.

“As long as you want,” I replied, then kissed her neck.

With no exertion, and with extreme pleasure, Nicole gave herself a series of gentle orgasms over the course of nearly forty minutes, before she began moving up and down, instinctively knowing how to bring about my release. When I came, I came so hard I felt as if I was going to blast her from my dick, though the exquisite friction would have prevented that, if it even were possible.

“Oh, God!” Nicole gasped as the warm, sticky fluid jetted into her spasming pussy.

When both our orgasms had passed, Nicole put her head on my shoulder and I held her tightly against me. She whimpered softly when a few minutes later I softened and slipped from her freshly deflowered pussy.

“Can I remove your jersey now?” I asked quietly.

“Yes,” she replied.

She sat up and I pulled her jersey over her head and tossed it on the floor. She did the same for me, and then I pulled her to me, crushing her small breasts between us and enjoying the feel if her hard nipples boring into my chest. We began kissing and Nicole ground her clit against my pubic bone, bringing herself off three times before I was hard enough for her to mount me once again.

The second time around was very much like the first - with Nicole grinding against me and squeezing and relaxing her muscles. I lost track of how many orgasms she had before she brought me to the height of pleasure for the second time, then rested her head on my shoulder.

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 5 Housemates

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 63 Back to Work

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. Your guess is as good as anyone’s right about now.” “Steve, do you have a minute?”...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

July, 1982, Milford, Ohio I woke up early on Friday morning to make breakfast for Kara and her mom before she went to work. Mrs. Blanchard was surprised, but very pleased. After her mom left for work, Kara gave me a fierce kiss. “Thanks for staying in and cooking breakfast for us,” Kara said. “I hope that doesn’t cause you trouble with Stephanie, with you breaking your normal routine.” “Don’t worry about it,” I said, kissing her back. “We got in a bit later than I expected, and she’ll...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 38 Jennifer

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois After Rosie left, I stripped the sheets from my bed, as well as the cover of the duvet, and tossed everything into the washing machine. I lit a lavender candle in the room, and then swept and dusted. I did a quick spot-check of the rest of the house and noticed that the tub in the sauna needed to be cleaned. I scrubbed it, then mopped the sauna floor with a damp sponge mop. I finished cleaning the sauna about the time the washing machine finished, so I moved...

May 26, 1991, Iron Mountain, Michigan “Shall we see if we can find a farm?” I asked at breakfast on Sunday morning. “That sounds like a great idea,” Jessica said. “There’s a visitor’s bureau in town,” Kara said. “I saw it when we were here the first time.” “I’m sorry I ruined that vacation,” Jessica said. “Ruined?” I protested. “Are you kidding? Getting you back was way more important than a few days of vacation!” “I agree,” Kara added. “Jess, you know exactly how bad off Steve was...

August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The rest of the week proceeded as expected - class on Wednesday, as well as the usual visit from Penny, work on Thursday, and class on Friday. Kara and I had lunch together at IIT, Sofia practiced her driving and parking, and I hung out with Mark Agnini after class for beers. Staci and I got into a couple of interesting debates about the Old Testament that Mark had to break up to allow others in the class to participate. She was very much of the ‘directly...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 7 Reaching the Peak

March 25, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What time do I need to have you home?” “8:00pm will be fine,” Misty replied. “My parents are in Normal visiting my brother at Illinois State. They aren’t supposed to be home before 10:00pm.” Misty and I were in my car on the way to the NIKA apartment which, fortunately, was not being used. With our expansion, it was in more or less regular use, and that meant I didn’t have access to it as often as I would have liked. I was glad there had been a delay in...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 7 Setting the Course of My Life

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. “So, how should we do these Stone’s songs?” Phil asked at our rehearsal session. “I think we all know the music, we just need to come up with a pretty awesome arrangement; we don’t want to sound like yet another cheap cover band.” “I had some ideas, if it’s okay for me to make some suggestions,” Allison said. “Of course it is,” Phil said. “Everyone can have a say, there’s no rule that says you can’t participate in the discussion.” “Thanks, Phil, I guess being the newest here, I’m a bit...

May 11, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Monday was turning out to be a LONG day. After my run and talk with Gina, and my talk with Elyse, I had a full day at the office scheduled. January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 6 SamanthaChapter 21 Georg and Maria

September 7, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “That went reasonably well,” Michelle said when her parents drove off. “There were a few times I thought my expression would give away something I shouldn’t. You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. Thank you!” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “So, what’s left?” I asked. “To visit UofC tomorrow and formally withdraw from classes. To spend some time with you and your...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 14 A Southern Belle a Surprise Proposal two Cheerleaders an Old Flame and a Girl Back Home Part I

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. I didn’t get much reading done because I was thinking about Tatyana, which led me to...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 9 KamiChapter 38 And Sometimes It Stinks To Be Big

January 23, 1996, Chicago, Illinois “Father, bless!” I said, greeting Father Basil with upturned palms. “Bless you, Stephen,” he said as I kissed his hand. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. We placed our food orders right away and he left to put them in with the kitchen. “I’m not quite sure how to address this, so I’m just going to ask you bluntly. Are you the father of Michelle’s baby?” I shook my...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 8 NIKAChapter 68 The Rules

June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

December 5, 2000, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota “I had a good time last night,” I said. “I was surprised you invited a friend!” Mary laughed as we walked into the exam room, “Naomi had a good time as well. You know what a Resident’s life is like.” I nodded, “No social life.” “Exactly. You guys seemed to hit it off pretty well.” “Yes, but I’m not here for that!” “You’re everywhere for that, and you know it!” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Let’s just say that you hit the sweet spot -...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 25 The Puzzle and the Cat Part II

March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt. When she woke, she hopped out of bed and pulled a robe out of her closet and handed it to me. “There’s a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. Go have your shower, then we’ll have breakfast after I have my shower.” I quickly showered and brushed my teeth, and went back to Katt’s room. She went to shower and came back a few minutes later. She dressed, and I got a very good look at her sexy body...

April 5, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “You missed cuddles this morning!” Birgit said accusingly when I walked into the house about 9:30am. “I know, Pumpkin, but I had a work emergency and had to go see Aunt Joyce and Grandpa A.” “And now we have to get ready for karate!” “I know. We’ll have some family time this afternoon. I don’t have any plans.” “Good!” I hugged her and the rest of the kids, then went to find Kara. We hugged and kissed, and went straight upstairs to get ready for...

September 3, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Good morning, Sensei,” I said, bowing to Sensei Jim. “Good morning!” he said waving me to a chair in his office. “How was your trip?” I asked. “Enlightening. I spent most of my time acting as a manservant to Sensei Robert and Sensei Hiro.” “He who will lead, must first serve,” I said. “Someday, I’m going to send you to Sensei Hiro, should he live long enough. You understand.” “Does that mean you are now 6th Dan?” I...

October 29, 2000, Chicago, Illinois Birgit followed me as far as the stairs, then scooted upstairs when I went to the front door and opened it. “Hi!” Sophie said. “Hi!” I replied and held the door open so she could come into the house. I closed the door behind her then led her to my study where I waited until she went in, and then walked in, closing the door behind me. I nodded to one of the wingback chairs, she sat down in one, and I sat down in the other. “Is something wrong?” she...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 61 Anala Part II

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I walked in the near 90°F heat to Carla’s place. I was grateful that the humidity of the morning had dropped significantly; otherwise the heat would have been unbearable. By the time I walked up the steps to the apartment over the photography studio and knocked on her door, I had broken into a light sweat. Carla answered almost immediately and invited me inside her studio apartment. The air was moderately cool, and the window air conditioner was running full...

July 1982, Milford, Ohio On Tuesday morning, I kissed Kara goodbye and headed to my parents’ house for my usual morning routine with my little sister. She was happy that I could spend the morning with her and asked to take a walk, so we weren’t in the house with my mom. “Let me guess — this walk will end in the clearing,” I said with a smile. “Yes,” she said, taking my hand as we walked down Overlook towards Klondyke. As usual, we turned around and walked back, taking the path to the...

March 13, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Steve!” Ailea said when she opened the door. “Hi,” I replied, accepting the offered hug. There was no touching of lips, just of cheeks, and I wondered if I’d misread her intentions at her birthday lunch, or if, perhaps, she detected my reluctance to return the offered affection. “Lunch is ready, so go ahead and sit. I’ll bring it in from the kitchen.” I went to the low table, sat down, and a minute later, Ailea brought miso soup and sushi, our usual...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 72 An Explosive Discovery

April 3, 1997, Dallas, Texas “Remember what I said about drinking too much,” I said, as I poured bourbon into three cups. We’d stopped at a liquor store, bought a bottle of Blanton’s, and then returned to the small suite I’d reserved at the Westin. Deborah’s room was down the hall, and Krissy’s was two floors below. Krissy’s comment had caught me a bit off guard, but I hadn’t reacted visibly. I didn’t know her quite well enough to know if she’d been teasing with Deborah, so I was being...

Jessica giggled, “I set the alarm for thirty minutes earlier!” “Then let’s not waste any of it!” I said pulling Kara to me. Kara’s squeals as I plunged...

September 1, 1987, Chicago, Illinois “I heard that you have some kind of plan to help Ed,” I said to Connie. “There’s no plan,” she replied. “A witness who saw the shopkeeper alive after Ed left came forward.” That sounded convenient, and I wondered if the witness was real or someone that Anthony had put forward to solve the problem. Certainly, the videotape was real, because I couldn’t imagine how Anthony could have faked that, but the witness? Who knew? “So is he being released? Or is...

August 17, 1997, Chicago, Illinois We finished lunch and Marissa and the younger kids went to play, but Natalie sat with the adults to talk, with coffee, tea, or soft drinks. The Sarcus were very comfortable, but the Heaths were still struggling. But, vitally, they hadn’t left and hadn’t insisted Natalie leave the group. “Can you explain how you developed this attitude and approach?” Chris asked. July 1979 — Falkenberg, Sweden On Friday, when I got back from my run, Pam was in her bra and panties again. I whistled at her, she giggled, then finished dressing. I showered, and we went to breakfast and finished up our last day. Once class was done, we were pretty much free. On Saturday, we’d have several optional activities and then on Sunday we’d head back to our host families. After dinner on Friday, I took Pam’s hand and we walked towards the river. July 1980, Over the North Atlantic We reached cruising altitude, and I settled back to read my book. Pam raised the armrest between us, snuggled close to me and read as well. The cabin crew offered drinks, and I had my first Coke in a year! Meal service began about an hour and a half into the flight. After the cabin crew picked up the trays and offered drinks again, they passed once more, offering headsets for the movie. Trevor and Maria took them, but Pam and I didn’t, instead we turned on...

You were VERY careful with our dance, so I kind of followed your lead.” Which showed very mature thinking on her part. Both of these girls were exactly the kind of students I...

November 8, 1993, Chicago, Illinois A dark fog swirled before my eyes as I tried to take stock. My head hurt, badly. I felt something on my face and realized, dimly, it was an oxygen mask. My right hand was uncomfortable and I recognized the feeling of an IV and pulse-oximeter. My left arm ached fiercely. On my chest I felt the pads and wires of an EKG. I didn’t feel anything else wrong as I continued taking inventory. I tried to open my eyes, but the fog didn’t clear. I tried to speak, but...

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois In the morning Anala and I ran as we had the previous time, then showered together, carefully washing each other’s bodies in an intimate but non-sexual way. After our shower we went to the kitchen and I made breakfast and we sat down to eat. “Steve, may I make a suggestion?” she asked. “Sure.” “Broaden your circle of friends. Other than me, all of you are white, nominally Christian, 20-year-old Americans. And you don’t invite me to your Sunday...

He did, and I sat in the usual chair across from him. “She has a real problem, you know that, right?” he asked. “I do. May 1979 The limo dropped me at home about 9:00pm. I took my stuff to my room, stripped, and hung up the tux. The rest of the things went into the hamper. I took a shower, put on shorts and a t-shirt, and walked down the hall into my dad’s office. I saw no reason to put this off any longer. “Stephen, you need to explain yourself!” my mom demanded. “I was in Mrs. McGrath’s, well, Mrs. Sanders’ now, wedding, as I said.” “You walked her down the aisle! February, 1983, Chicago, Illinois Our first joining since the previous summer was slow and sweet, trying to express our deep love for each other through the motions of our bodies. When we finished, Karin held me tight and refused to let me move off of her. “Sleep there, please,” she whispered. July 1983, Milford, Ohio My drive to Ohio was filled with wild swings of emotion. After quickly driving Anala home I had set out for Milford, driving as fast as I thought I could get away with, slowing only when warned to do so by my radar detector. I’d told Nancy that I’d come straight to her house and asked her to call my dad and let him know so that Stephanie wasn’t worried.
