The highlight of the next two weeks was Bindy and Aaron turning up.
They turned up two days after I talked to Anne and the family in Alpha-IV were delighted to have them join the nightly meals. Justin did give Aaron a bit of ribbing about being caught, but he just grinned at us. We don’t think he fought really hard to get away. Bindy was a pretty awesome lady.
Sarah and Mark were delighted to have a third young couple of similar age become part of our group. Mark was the odd man out, with the rest of us being MPs but he had done some military training and had even been a shuttle pilot while he studied Management Law, so as far as we were concerned, he fit right in.
For me personally, I now had some really amazing friends. The girls did embarrass me on occasion when they laughed at my blank looks when they did really girly-girl things. It was scary for me learning that this was how other girls thought and acted.
Justin told me he loved me just the way I was, but he didn’t complain about the additions to my wardrobe. He took just as much delight inspecting and then removing them from me. He didn’t protest about a few other things the girls taught me either since he benefited as well.
He just told me I could experiment with his body all that I wanted too. He probably shouldn’t have given me such a licence, as I took him at his word. I did enjoy his gasps and reactions as I perfected a few new ways to give him pleasure. His responses heightened mine, so we both benefited.
Sarah had chuckled one night and informed me that we Aussies had created a very unusual situation. Having five Detectives from one country in a division, let alone on the Moon, had never happened before. Mark added, “No, it’s worse than that, you are all bloody Cane Toads.”
“Ah, honey, you can’t help being a Cockroach, but I do still love you,” she told him with a hug, while the rest of us cackled with laughter.
For the uninformed, Cane Toads are the mascots for the Queenslanders Rugby Union players and Cockroaches are New South Welshmen. The two states have had a competition called the State of Origin that has run since 1980.
The mascots for the states had long since maintained the adoption for the residents as well. Poor Mark was seriously outnumbered in this regard just being in the Connors’ family, but he was a good sportsman and of course, promised that there was always next year.
Simon, Darla, Hendrik, Nikolai and Carmel were not happy with the addition of Aaron and Bindy. LTC Paulo Rodriguez, Oliver, Sarah and Warana West’s team were happy to welcome them aboard. Oliver was even happier when Sarah’s partner was rotated back to Earth earlier than expected, due to issues at home. Paulo overrode Simon and moved Oliver to Warana’s team.
Since the Detectives and their placement was Paulo’s department, and Simon and Darla were his subordinates if they had objections they must have been squashed. Carmel, as his boss, couldn’t really say anything either without causing other eyebrows to be raised.
Carmel hadn’t taken being saddled with two guards well. She refused to let them stand outside her office doors or be in her apartment once they had checked it was safe for her to enter. However, she couldn’t refuse them going with her when she left a building that was deemed secure.
She was campaigning to have them removed because nothing had happened for two weeks, so I wasn’t sure how long Jamal and Ymir would be around. The forensic lab was at the end of the same hall that Carmel’s office was on, so the men just joined us, and one always sat so one of them could see out of the door.
Jamal had placed a passive sensor near the short section of the hall to Carmel’s door so that Ymir’s and his Mads beeped if anyone walked past it to get to Carmel’s office. He had placed a camera, so it faced down the Hall. It was located in the lab, and since we knew about it, we didn’t remove it when we did our bug sweep.
We put a monitor on the wall so we could all observe who went in or out of her office. I also added a backup drive and recorded the day’s event, and we kept them. Normally such observations of our fellow teammates were a breach of the rules, but since it was part of a special protection detail, our arses were covered.
We were happy for the boys to join us in the lab as they were of great assistance. They could easily identify items collected from their dome and the shuttle. They could also access other information for us when we queried anything that we didn’t have the immediate rights to use.
Before shots and back-ups of the camera information that conveniently got lost were put back into our files so we could do our job. Major Zaman even sent me all the recordings and documentation associated with the disposal of the weapons, to see if I could help identify how they went missing and because it was directly linked to the investigation.
Sheik Hamdan came and spent a couple of days with us downstairs in the evidence shed where the parts of the shuttle had been moved. We took him home to our dome, for the two nights he stayed, and he had a ball having dinner with the Connors’ family and company.
Vera, who was the only single member of the family other than Lora was not a lot older than Hamdan, and they got on famously. Vera ran the family’s shuttle while she was studying, so we weren’t surprised. She was also a very pretty young woman and easy to talk too.
One of Hamden’s guards, MP Imran, who we had met at the Sigma Dome, took a fancy to Lora. Imran looked to be a ten year-older version of Hamdan and was, in fact, a cousin. They were both good-looking men of above-average height.
Lora had decided to revert to her natural look on the Moon after a trip back to Earth. She just came back as her own replacement with her maiden name and twenty-five-year-old looks. She looked a lot like Sarah. We Connors’ all knew, but we kept that to ourselves. Subsequently, Hamdan and Imran were invited to come and visit the Connors whenever they wished.
I even had to field a call from Rashid when he asked me whom the young lady was that his son was mooning over. When he learnt that Vera was a business major, a pilot and closely related to Anne Connors, he told me that he had no objections. Justin and I had a good giggle over that development, as did the girls.
We did go to a Halloween party in Gamma with the team and the Connors. Even Oliver, Jock and Cantara came with us. Hamdan was allowed to attend as long as he stayed with us MPs. Since Vera and Lora were with us, they had no problem complying at all.
Thus, the month of October rolled into November.
Towards the end of the second week of November, some very interesting things happened.
After a month, the case was not really going anywhere. The three men responsible for the carnage at the Sigma Dome and the assassin still had not been identified. We were being blocked on several fronts, and even Rashid’s influence wasn’t helping in this regard.
We were all sure that there were several different factions involved. Justin and I suspected that Rashid and his family were pawns in someone else’s game and had ended up in the middle of a fight that wasn’t of their making.
No faction had come forward to claim responsibility, not even the crazies. That was telling in its own right. The whole thing stunk of political involvement at very high levels that we couldn’t touch or access.
