John T. Jones stood up from their table at the end of year dance and swayed slightly. Like many others, they had smuggled some alcohol in, but had arrived well-lubricated already. Then he set off across the floor towards the other side; beside him his Vice-Captain Vince tagged along. John had an IQ of over a hundred; Vince, maybe not so much. Hi, enjoying the dance?” Woodrow Woodruff – Woody to everybody in the school – had also smuggled some alcohol in; if he had been in his normal frame of mind he would have been half way to the door by now. But a bit of alcohol had given him courage; no, he would not run this time (he always got caught anyway, eventually).

“Ah, a good riposte” Beside Woody, Tina Brown was beginning to feel irritated. Tina was some kind of math genius, she could calculate the square root of 945 to 3 decimal places in the time it took you to tie a shoe lace. What she could not do was apply her very impressive IQ to commonsense questions; this would be a problem soon. She and Woody were platonic friends, genuinely. She had no more interest in him sexually than she had in Mr Pierce (who was now moving slowly through the crowds towards them – he was like a bulldozer, or perhaps an oil tanker; his great bulk causing a bow wave of teenagers on either side of his track), but she was somewhat affronted that Woody’s eyes were clearly distracted from looking at John T. Jones to focussing about a foot to 18 inches below Mandy’s face. He was ogling her tits, he was trying not to but he was. Even their discussions on whether, if you could travel faster than the speed of light, that would mean your infinite weight would bend time and make time travel possible, were no match for a pair of large bouncing tits apparently. “Tis. The IOC accepts Chess” which wasn’t true “and so does the International Sport Federation” which was “Soooooo! It is a sport.”
