Jen looked at the Eiffel Tower mesmerized. Paris was meant to be one of her most favorite cities in the world and she knew it the moment she had set her foot there. She adored everything, the river which divided the city in two, the church of Notre Dame, the wonderful buildings and most of all the Eiffel Tower.
Standing there in front of it was so impressive that she stopped listening to what Devlin was saying. Jen had been that overwhelmed twice before in her life; the first time was when she visited the Pyramids in Egypt. It was like she had travelled back in time for a few moments. The Western civilization did not exist, only this miracle existed and it was beckoning her to unravel its secrets. The second time she was in Athens, working for a Greek family and they took her to the Parthenon. Jen was lost again. How could this people have built something so perfect so many centuries ago?
And now she was in Paris staring at the Eiffel Tower, a sight that took her breath. That moment she thanked Devlin for forcing her to come with him. She wanted to walk the streets of Paris alone, to take her time to visit the Louvre, to meet new people ... The thought was exciting but she had a job to do first.
"Shouldn't we go to our hotel? Your friends will have arrived by now", she said.
Devlin didn't look pleased. "Are you bored Miss Lawson?"
"Of course not. But I am a little tired", she lied.
Devlin nodded and they walked back to the hotel. Jen would have been impressed by the luxurious suite had she not already seen Devlin's mansion. The expensive hotel paled in comparison. The suite had two separate bedrooms, a living room, a dining room and two bathrooms. Jen took off her shoes and walked barefoot to her room.
She tried to take a nap but sleeping while Devlin was so close was impossible. From the beginning of their trip he had been a perfect gentleman. He hadn't touched her, he hadn't even said one word that could offend her all day. Jen didn't trust this polite behaviour. It was so unlike him that it had to be fake. She punched the pillow in frustration.
If she wanted to sleep there were two options available. The first were her pills, which she avoided taking too often and the second was a hot, relaxing bath. Actually, she had no choice at all.
Jen got up and strode in the bathroom. She filled the tub with hot water, added some bubble-bath, took off her jeans and got in quickly. The water was soothing but it was not enough. She couldn't stop thinking that this trip was a huge mistake. Not because Devlin could do anything he wanted without Maddy intruding but because day by day she found it really hard to say no. Maybe a stronger woman could look at his grey eyes or his beautiful hands without wishing that he was hers. Maybe she was a willing prey despite the walls she had put around her years ago. Maybe she just didn't care anymore. She sighed and got out of the tub. Apparently she couldn't avoid taking the pills.
Jen wrapped the soft towels that were folded in a drawer around her and went in the living room. There was a small refrigerator there and she poured some cold water but as she brought the glass to her lips she realized that Devlin was already there, looking at her. She put the glass and the pills she was holding on the table.
"A warm milk would be a better idea", he suggested.
Jen felt fear mixed with lust. He would do it now, she thought and she wasn't so sure that she was going to resist. They were alone in the room and she was naked beneath the towel for God's sake! Surely he would take advantage of that. "I hate milk".
"How about a glass of brandy?"
"I hate brandy as well".
His eyes were gleaming in the dark but he didn't seem to notice her lack of clothes. He put his hands in his pockets and leaned against a wall and she wondered what would happen if she got rid of the towel. "I called home. Hannah sends you her love and wants you to help me buy her a gift".
"I'll do my best. How's Maddy?"
"She's fine. She is baking all kinds of cookies and of course her sisters try hard to spoil Hannah now that we're not there to stop them".
Jen smiled at the thought and Devlin took a step towards her. A small voice inside her head was saying, "Yes. Let him touch you, let him kiss you. Just let it happen".
"Miss Lawson..."
"Yes", she whispered staring timidly at the floor.
"You have the rest of the day off", he said, his voice devoid of emotion and left her alone.

Alex had seen her need very clearly but she hadn't seen his struggle. She thought that he was indifferent, that he hadn't noticed the curves of her body, that he didn't care about the fact that she was naked.
