On Saturday night after spending most of the day with my family, Linda and I headed out to the Japanese Garden. There we made love for about two hours before I took her home. I spent some time chatting with Rosie and telling her my plans for the rest of the week, and she smiled.

“Well, not just her, next week is going to be something similar with Holly. It actually started because Mandy told me that Holly was feeling a bit depressed that we have not been together much the last few months. She suggested a day just for her and I, and of course I realized I owed her the same attention.”
“Where are you taking her tomorrow?”
“Nope, sorry, that’s a secret. She can tell you about it when I bring her home that night. But I hope that it ends as a dream date for her, and one she remembers for years afterwards. But to give an idea, next week I am taking Holly to Long Beach for the day. First shopping downtown, then a few hours at the largest used book store in the country. After that, the tour of the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose, then a nice dinner and dancing at the nicest restaurant on the Queen Mary.”
“Oh Pete, that sounds incredible! I was about to say that sounds like a lot of money, but I sometimes forget you are wealthy.”
I chuckled. “No, not wealthy at all. A modest trust fund, and I spend almost none of my pay since the Marines gives me almost all I need. Free food, free housing, free medical, I actually bank around half of my pay every month. The inheritance and trust fund just lets me get the occasional toy like the motorhome. But that is my dad’s now, he and Dee will be using it for the next few years at least. He is paying me what I put into it next week, and if I decide when I get back I want it I will buy it back from him.”
“And you are giving Linda your truck,” she reminded me.
“Not giving, permanent loan. I can’t take it with me, and I don’t want to sell it. She can use it, and since we plan on getting married in a year or so it will be half hers at that time anyways. I plan on being back here in about a year, and we can get married then. Then it will take a few months until I can arrange housing for her to join me. We will spend my last year or so on Okinawa, then we will see where we end up.”
Rosie nodded, and said I seemed to have things worked out. “Well, I’m working off the Government’s schedule mostly for the next five years or so. I will request my second tour at Tustin, El Toro, or Camp Pendleton. That will have us close to home here, no more than a two or three hour drive away. Of course that is not a guarantee, but I was told they try hard to make a second tour someplace we want to go after getting stuck like I am for three years far away from home.”
The girls came back out, and I gave Linda a kiss then Mandy, reminding her to be ready by 8. “Oh, and this should not be a real surprise, but bring your skates. At least part of the date will be that, and I know you hate to use rentals.”
I headed on home and did some work on an article about using a “standard pack” in gaming. I described various types of backpacks used in the real world, including those with and without frames. And in creating a “standard packing list” with a set selection of items such as candles, tinder, lantern, rope, canteens, food, blanket, half a tent, and other things to make it easier to get a new group started as quickly as possible. This way less time would be spent in preparing prior to leaving on an adventure, and more time on the adventure itself.
I printed out a copy and put it and the disk on Dee’s keyboard. I would likely be leaving right about the time she was getting up, and knew she would want to read it as soon as possible.
I threw my suit into my Marine clothing bag along with my dress shoes, then packed a day bag with my other things. The next morning I was up at 6 so took a one mile run, showered, and after getting into jeans and a t-shirt threw everything into the truck and headed to get Mandy. She met me at the door before I even got there, and gave me a huge hug. I hugged Linda and Rosie, then took Mandy’s bags and carried them out to the truck and off we headed. And right before I left, Linda whispered softly into my ear “You have my full permission for anything within your limits, lover.”
I stopped at McDonald’s and got us breakfast, and we ate as we headed South. I looked over at Mandy, and she wore a nice sundress and flats, and I suspected she had followed what Linda had told her and wore a bikini on under that. And she laughed when I got onto the 10 heading West, and said “Santa Monica, right Pete?” I nodded, and soon we were pulling in by the pier. I grabbed a backpack and shoved our shoes and her dress into it as we put on our skates. And sure enough, she was wearing a modest bikini that was red and blue under it. I put on the backpack and holding hands we skated off along the beach.
We had a great time, and several times I would wrap my arm around her waist and held her close. And sometimes I would let her skate on ahead just so I could watch her. “Mandy, of course I do! And so does anybody else that looks at you. No, you are not one of the pencil-thin girls that are models like Brooke Shields. To be perfectly honest, I find that as a body I find yours more appealing than that of your sister, but I love her so that does not matter to me. I could see she was doing exactly that, and a small smile was appearing on her lips. “Yeah, I am hot, ain’t I?”
“Yes you are, now let’s go ahead and head on back.”
When we got back to the truck, we changed back into shoes and her sundress came back on, and hand in hand we walked the pier. We had fun on the merry go round and Ferris wheel, even kissing a bit at the top. Then had some hot dogs as we looked out over the ocean.
“Wow, when I come back here after next week, you are going to be on the other side of that. It’s kind of hard to imagine that you are going to be on the other side of this same ocean, but we can not see each other. I’m going to miss you so much, Pete.”
“Me too, Mandy. Me too. If it was not so large I would swim across it so I can be back with you and your sister again. But at about the time you graduate High School I will be back. You will see me in about a year and a half or so, and a year or so after that I will be back here in the US to stay. Hopefully California, but that is not guaranteed. But a few more years, I will be back for good. And by then your sister and I will be married, and we will be related for the rest of our lives. You are always going to be my sister.”
She smiled at me and gave me a soft kiss. I returned it, then looked at my watch. “OK, time for part two. Go ahead and change in one of the showers, and we go to our next phase.”
She came out in a white blouse and black skirt, and after a soft kiss we got into the truck and pulled out. Mandy laughed when she realized we were pulling in front of WoW. “Oh Pete, this is perfect! I always wanted to come back here!”
“I thought you would like it. It’s too far for our regular skating trips, but this is a special occasion.”
We spent the next three hours there, and had a blast. And unlike any other skate session with her, it was only the two of us as far as we were concerned. We held hands almost the entire time, and spent every couples skate together. I got a soft sad kiss at the end of the last one, and when the session ended we changed back into our shoes and headed back to the beach.
There we both headed into the showers to wash off the sweat we had accumulated during the day, and got into our nice clothing. I was in black slacks, a blue shirt and matching tie. My formal cowboy boots finished it off, and I waited at the truck for Mandy.
Oh my God. She wore a form-fitting dark green cocktail dress that had the hem halfway down her thighs, and looked absolutely amazing. I whistled as she came up, and looked her up and down. Bare legs, and two inch heels completed the look and it was amazing.
Hand in hand we drove to Burbank, and she looked at me in puzzlement when I pulled into the place. After all, it looked less like a restaurant than it did a house. But when we walked in and she saw Charlie Chaplin was the host she started to laugh. “Oh, this is the place you took Linda to last year! Oh, this is wonderful!” He tipped his hat to her, and called over Madonna to take us to our table. Then after ordering non-alcoholic drinks, we ordered dinner and had a great time.
We spent diner chatting, and talking about the staff around us. A different guy was Rocky this time, and we also recognized Indiana Jones, a guy dressed as a 1930’s gangster, and what I think was Betty Boop. Then with dinner finished we got back in and headed to Griffith Park. And after spending about 20 minutes looking through the observatory when they called for the laser show I took her hand and we headed over.
And it was a blast! The lasers and lights matched the music perfectly, and it really was like going to a concert. And as the show ended and we headed out she said that she had a new routine she wanted to do. “Oh Pete, that was amazing! I can’t believe I never listened to Pink Floyd in that way before! I wanna do a routine but I don’t know what song to choose.”
“Well, what do you like most?”
“Oh, Comfortably Numb for sure. But also that one with the telephone call.”
“That is ‘Young Lust’. And don’t look at me that way, that is the actual name. Watch the movie version, it involved some teen groupies trying to do it with the band. But get together with Mike, I bet he can help you combine both songs into a single one for you to perform to.”
“Yeah, I bet he can! He has a home studio he can do that in. I bet I can even get Keith to help, maybe even get him and some friends to do some other work.”
“There you go girl! You do that, I bet it would be a great routine. But we have about two hours until I have to take you home, what should we do until then?”
