September/October 1980, Milford, Ohio

On Sunday after I called Karin, I had my weekly ‘play date’ with Debbie V, and she helped me pick out a gift for Karin, as her birthday was coming up and I wanted to send it so she could get it in time. I spent the rest of the day with Beth, working on computer dating and programming stuff. Bethany had come over for a few hours in the afternoon and hung out with us. I also let Beth know that the following Sunday we’d only have a short day because I had a date and that the Sunday after that, I’d be heading to Don Joseph’s house.

The week progressed like normal, and I saw Elyse on Monday and Thursday. We had dinner and then hung out at my house. By mutual agreement, we limited our affection to kisses when she arrived and when she left. We agreed that we’d continue our Monday and Thursday dates, keeping things moving forward, but very slowly. There was no doubt that we both wanted to make love, but Elyse was being cautious.

Dona on the other hand, had made it clear to me that she wanted to move forward quickly. I kept thinking about Stephanie’s warning and how I’d handle the situation. If I did have sex with Dona, would she insist on being exclusive? If she did, what would happen with Katt, Bethany, and Debbie V? Did I want to be exclusive? The answer to that was no, because despite the strong feelings I had for Dona, I wasn’t interested in going steady with anyone. Well, anyone but Jennifer, and that wasn’t possible.

I did invite people to my party — Kathy, Mary, Beth, Brent, Larry, Ralph, Debbie V, and, of course, Bethany. I invited Mary to bring Ben if she could. I decided to invite Cindy and Erin as well. I also invited Debbie C. I knew Mom would have a fit about the two Debbies, but I didn’t give a damn. I’d have to talk to Bethany about inviting Dona.

Friday was Homecoming and Bethany insisted that we do things exactly as we had done for our Freshman year Turnabout dance, though she asked me to drive to her house beforehand so that her parents could take pictures. The limo would pick us up and drop us off at her house.

I showered and dressed in a new suit because the one I wore Sophomore year didn’t fit in the shoulders at this point. I grabbed my fedora and drove over to Bethany’s house. Her mom opened the door when I rang the bell and I went in to sit in the living room to wait for Bethany to come down.

Bethany came downstairs wearing her long, conservatively cut, ankle-length pale-blue gown with long sleeves. Her hair was styled with curls hanging down to frame her face, just as it had been two years previously. She wore only a hint of makeup, including blue eye shadow that was the same color as her dress. She went to the mantle and took down a box with an identical white flower with blue tipped petals and pinned it to my suit.

Bethany’s mom took an entire roll of pictures with her 35mm camera, including some in the backyard under a tree. She promised to provide me copies of the pictures once she had them developed. Once we finished, we went back inside to wait for the limo to arrive. Bethany’s dad reminded her that her curfew was 1:00am and I promised to have her home by then. The limo arrived to take us to the country club a few minutes later. We said goodbye to her parents and headed out.

“Steve,” Bethany said when we were sitting in the back of the limo, “there is one difference from last time.”

“What’s that?”

“After the dance and after we get ice cream, we’re going to fuck each other silly!”

“I remember how afraid you were to even dance close last time.”

“After that last slow dance, I wanted you to make love to me, but I was so scared.”

“Everything worked out fine.”

She smiled and snuggled close to me until we got to the country club. We sat in the same booth that we’d had two years ago and when it was time to order, we looked at each other and laughed, then both ordered lemon chicken. When we had finished, the limo took us to Milford High for the dance.

We found a table with Mary and Ben, Kathy and Joe, Brent and Beth, and Ralph and Janet, who was there even though she had graduated the previous year.

“I suppose every girl at this table is going to want to dance with you,” Bethany giggled.

“I think you’re right,” I chuckled.

The ten of us had a great time dancing and talking. Mary managed her usual very good timing, and we danced to The Biggest Part of Me by Ambrosia.

“Steve, I love holding you in my arms!” she sighed. “It’s too bad you aren’t more flexible with your rule.”

“Mary, you feel fantastic and you know I’d love to do it, but no, the rule is firm.”

“So is something else!” she giggled, grinding into my erection.

I hugged her tight until the end of the song and let her go with a quick peck on the lips.

I danced with Beth, but it was much more chaste, my hands on her waist and hers on my shoulders. Janet and I danced to a moderately fast song, and she kissed me on the cheek when we finished and whispered “Thanks!” Kathy’s timing was good and we danced to Longer by Dan Fogelberg. She pulled me as close as possible to dance.

I saw Debbie V with a Sophomore guy I knew only by sight. She didn’t ask me to dance, but I wasn’t surprised. We were keeping our relationship completely quiet. Only Stephanie and Bethany really knew about it, and I wanted to keep it that way.

I wasn’t surprised when Michelle Bateman asked me to dance. She too managed to get a slow song, You Decorated My Life by Kenny Rogers. I started with my hands on her waist, but she stepped closer and wrapped her arms around me, putting her head on my chest. I saw Bethany smirk as she danced with Michelle’s date at arms’ length.

“Steve,” Michelle whispered, “what will it take to get together with you?”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“I’ve been flirting non-stop with you since the start of the year!”

“Yes, you have,” I replied.

“Ask me out, please!” she whispered as she pressed her body hard into mine.

The song finished and as we parted, I told her I’d talk to her on Monday. I went back to the table to find Bethany.

“Enjoy your dance?” Bethany smirked. “I don’t know if you could get any closer!”

“She wants me to ask her out.”

“No kidding! She wants a hell of a lot more than that, though. She knows your reputation as a fantastic lover.”

“And how does she know that?”

“I’m pretty sure Cindy told her, and she asked Kathy, too, because word got around with the cheer team about you and her at the party.”

I chuckled, “You know what happened there, but yeah, Kathy did have a pretty good experience after that!”

“Just make sure she knows that you’ll screw her silly, but you aren’t interested in dating.”

“Yes, Dear!” I sighed.

Bethany slapped my shoulder gently and then pulled me to the dance floor. We danced the rest of the night together. The final song was Every Woman in the World by Air Supply. I pulled Bethany close, and she hugged me tight as we swayed to the song.

“Am I your fantasy and reality? Am I everything you need?” she asked softly, repeating the song’s lyrics.

“I love you very much,” I said gently. “Don’t push too hard. Please don’t try to force things.”

“I’m sorry,” she said, a tear rolling down her cheek.

When the song finished, we said goodbye to our friends and headed out to the limo to go to Graeter’s.

“Maybe we should just go home now,” Bethany said, another tear rolling down her cheek.

“Bethany? What’s wrong?”

“You. Me. Us. It’s my fault, Steve. It’s all my fault,” she said and started sobbing.

I pulled her tight to me and told the driver to take us to Bethany’s house. I figured we’d get right in my car and I’d take her to the apartment to talk so we could have some privacy. At Bethany’s house, we got out of the limo and I led her to my car, holding the door open so she could get in.

“Steve, it’s a bad idea.”

“Just get in,” I said firmly.

She got in the car and I closed the door. I walked around to the driver’s side, got in, and drove to the apartment. We parked, and I helped her out of the car and then walked her upstairs. We went inside and I led her to the couch to sit. I took off my coat and tie and hung them on a chair. I put on the kettle to heat water for tea and got out the can of mint tea. Once the water was hot, I poured it into the teapot and added the tea ball with the tea leaves to steep and brought it and two cups to the table by the couch.

Bethany was curled up on the couch, her head on her arm resting on the back of the couch. She was still crying, so I brought a box of tissues to the couch with me. I dabbed tears from Bethany’s face and handed her a fresh tissue to blow her nose. Her hand was shaking as she reached to take the tissue. She looked at me nervously, with a look of fear in her eyes.

Fear? I thought quickly and took stock. I’d taken her back to her house, then told her, practically ordered her into the car, and we were silent until we got to the apartment. She’d followed without protest. Warning bells rang in my mind! She probably was thinking that she’d led me on, telling me to screw her silly after the dance, and now that she’d decided not to, she probably thought that I wanted to take her anyway! And she was resigning herself to it!

“Bethany, please.” I said, I reached to touch her shoulder, but she drew back and I withdrew my hand. “I brought you here to talk. Only to talk. This is the most private place I know where we can talk. Just to talk.”

She nodded, dabbing her eyes, stifling a sob.

“Talk to me,” I said softly. “Tell me what’s wrong.”

“I’m wrong. I can’t hold back my feelings and you don’t feel the same way. Then I see you with other girls and it’s like a dagger in my heart. It hurts so bad, and it’s tearing me apart. I don’t know what to do. I want you. I want all of you in every way. Just you and me forever. But you don’t want me,” she said, starting to sob again.

“That’s just not true! I do want you. I just can’t make a lifetime commitment at this point.”

“No, you can’t. I know that. But can’t we just go steady? Have it just you and me and nobody else?”

“We talked about that, and we agreed we would explore our relationship, but also agreed I wasn’t going to be exclusive with anyone. You and I both know that if I did agree to be exclusive with you, that in your mind, it would be the same as getting engaged. I can’t do that. I can’t make that kind of commitment at seventeen.”

“I know, that’s why I said I’m the problem. Maybe we should just stop seeing each other completely.”

“Completely? As in not even be friends? Not sit together at lunch?”

“Yes,” she said softly, sobbing louder.

That was absolutely not what I wanted. If we went back to just being friends, I’d be fine. But I couldn’t handle losing her as a friend. I also couldn’t make the commitment she wanted. I was stuck with two very, very bad choices. If I did as Bethany asked, I would have to tell Jennifer and that would mean either ending any chance with Jennifer or, more likely, breaking up with Bethany when it was time for college. There was no way I could do the first one, and the second one would devastate Bethany. I couldn’t mislead her that way.

“Are those really the only two options? Make a lifetime commitment or never talk to you again? Are those two options what you really want me to decide between?”

She looked at me for a moment, tears streaming down her face. She knew for sure what I would do if those were the only two options. She knew I’d have to decide never to speak to her again. She gazed deeply into my eyes and composed herself.

“Steve,” she said softly, “make love to me. Make all the pain go away.”

I knew immediately that I couldn’t do it. She was asking for all the wrong reasons. I wasn’t sure which reason, but there were several possibilities, and all of them were wrong. It could be just delaying a decision, it could be trying to convince me through love to make a commitment, it could be her way of trying to seal a commitment or just a way to block out the pain of what she was deciding.

“Bethany, no. I can’t do that. Not until we figure this out. Do you want my answer?”

“I know your answer, Steve. You already told me.” she said, sobbing harder.

“Then ask a different question, Sweetheart,” I said softly, stroking her hair.

“Sweetheart?” she sniffed. “You’ve never called me that before.”

“I know, but it is what you are to me, and I felt it was right to say it.”

“It was. It was the perfect thing to say. You do love me, don’t you?”

I did. And because I loved her, I wanted to be with her. Partly for my own selfish reasons, but partly because I was afraid of what would happen if she were cast adrift. And that was exactly what would happen if we weren’t at least friends. I began to realize just how vulnerable Bethany still was. If someone was going to save this relationship, it had to be me. I had to find a way.

“Yes, I do. I’ve loved you for a long time. I need you, Bethany. I can’t lose you as a friend! That wouldn’t be good for either of us. I really need you. There is nobody that can do for me what you do. Not Stephanie. Not Jennifer. Not Karin.”

“But you don’t love only me.”

“That’s true, I also love Jennifer.”

“Yes, but she’s not the only other one,” Bethany said with a hint of anger.

Dona. That had to be the true source of the problem. But I hadn’t said anything to Bethany, nor had Bethany seen Dona and me together. That led to only a single conclusion. I was going to have to have serious words with Miss Stephanie Ann Adams.

“Bethany,” I said softly, “what did my sister say to you?”

“She told me that you were in love with Dona. That you guys fell in love at first sight.”

God damn it! First Stephanie said something to Jennifer about Karin, now she had said something to Bethany about Dona. I was confused at what Stephanie’s motivations were, but that wasn’t important at the moment. What was important was trying to fix my relationship with Bethany.

“Forget about Dona for the moment. I don’t know what Stephanie’s angle is; I’ll worry about that later. Right now, we need to find a way to be together, for both our sakes.”

“You really need me? You’re not just saying that to try to make me happy?”

“When have I ever been anything but honest and truthful with you? You know more about me than anyone, except possibly Stephanie.”

“More than Jennifer? You can’t mean that!”

“Has she been here for the last two months? Who have I talked to about everything? Who’s been my best friend and confidante? Who helped me when I was lost? It was you, Bethany. You were my rock of support. Just like I was yours back then.”

“I never thought about it that way. But it’s so hard.”

“I agree. Life is very hard at times. We’ve both suffered trauma. We’ve helped each other. We have a bond that may well be strong enough to bring us together forever. I can’t say for sure, but you know I think it’s possible. We’re High School Seniors and our lives are about to change dramatically. I want you to be part of my life, Bethany Michelle Krajick.”

A Dreaded Homecoming

CHAPTER 1 Barbara Thompson came close to panic as she read the email from her daughter on the eve of Nikki’s homecoming after spending the last two years in England finishing her Fine Arts Degree at great expense. Barbara and husband Bass (Basil) had used the money set aside to buy another commercial property in their town of Lynch to ensure their eldest received the education she desired. The email read: ‘Hi mom, my degree with honors is in the bag and I’ll be home in two weeks. I have...

Coming Back for Homecoming

“That’s crazy. Let’s just stay watch the game. We’re going to get caught.” “No, we’re not. And even if we are, what are they going to do? It’s about two years too late to expel us. And it’s not like they’re not going to call the cops. After all we’re alums. Potential donors.” Clara was right, although that attitude came naturally to her. Although she came from an enormously wealthy family, she was not in the least snobby or stuck up. It was impossible, however, for her to be unaware of how her...

The Greatest Lie Chapter 14 From Prom Night to Homecoming

The Greatest Lie, Chapter 14 From Prom Night to Homecoming Alexandra Rios [email protected] For me, my hometown, L.A., is not the sexy, sweaty night clubs of West Hollywood nor the porn scene of the North Valley. Though I feel more at home there, that side of L.A. is not my home but rather the world into which my transsexual destiny exiled me. Home is the leafy, moneyed boulevards and side streets of Brentwood and Bel Air, California. Beneath the swaying palms and in the...

Senior Year Part IChapter 15 Homecoming

Friday October 14 I woke to my hound licking my face. It seemed someone had to go out... right now! I managed to put on a pair of shorts without passing out from the pain and hobbled down the stairs. Precious met the two of us at the back door. She was starting to really show. I did a little internal calculation and figured she should have her kittens in a couple of weeks. I groaned when the cat darted into my apartment as Duke went out. I was in no mood to play ‘find the kitty.’ When I made...

Carl McHenry looked up from the textbook spread out on his dorm room desk and out the window at the now dark sky. After all, he had been studying non-stop for the last nine hours. Attending the University on a scholarship, Carl needed to maintain at least a B average. Dance of a LifetimeChapter 69 Homecoming

Warren and Sophia pulled out of the campus at 8am on a Saturday morning, heading home for Christmas break. "Springsteen, again?" Sophia asked as he started the CD player. "It's good driving music, Pookie. Besides, you like Springsteen." "Yeah, but you always put him on when we're in the car. It's so... predictable." She giggled. "We're going to be on the road for two days, we'll have time to listen to a whole bunch of stuff. I need Bruce to help me wake up." "Well, OK...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 78 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part II

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

Two weeks after I finally asked Kelly to homecoming, we had the dance. During the time between the two, I started hanging with Kelly more and more. We'd walk to school and back home together, she'd sit at my table at lunch, we'd sit on her front porch swing and talk for hours about ourselves. She was finally getting me out of my shell, but I'd still get goosebumps when she would hold my hand, or kiss my cheek. Surprise Homecoming  Leaving home earlier that evening it was still warm and pleasant outside so the last thing I expected was rain when I headed home. I was just meeting a couple of friends at the local club and decided to walk so I could have a couple of beers. A couple of hours later I said my goodbyes and left my friends to it. They had just ordered more drinks but I promised Jay I wouldn’t be late and left them to it. Stepping outside I could not believe how the weather had changed in the...

Valentines Day Homecoming

Jennifer grinned to herself as she finished running the bath water and slid into the tub. Today she would see her fiancé for the first time in six months. Stationed overseas with the Marines, Michael was simply the most amazing person she had ever known. His dark hair and stunning green eyes never failed to make Jennifer's heart melt. He also didn't have a hard time getting her pussy wet. As her thoughts drifted like her fingertips over his skin, her hips moved under the water slowly,...

My Homecoming

I took the night bus and arrived Saturday morning. I have been thinking about my wife all night long. My cock is throbbing at the anticipation of arriving home to her after my out of state business trip. when I arrived, she was about watering the flowers. On seeing me, she shouted and ran up to meet and embraced me. She said why didn't i inform her of my homecoming, i told her that i wanted to surprise her. She lead me to the door and she looked totally stunning in your sheer see-through...

Redheads Homecoming

Homecoming I’d say I proved you wrong, Father. I’d say your expectations of me came up short. You said I could never survive without a man to define me; said I could never exist without his protection, his touch, the submission he would demand. But that was before the law brought me to task for my youthful indiscretions. Dragged from my husband by the conscription squad for service in the Public Regiments, I was condemned to distant frontiers until my debt was repaid. As I left our secluded...

The Homecoming

As the plane circled over Heathrow Ned felt a definite tightening of his trousers. He closed his eyes and imagined Clare, the last time he’d seen her she’d looked so pathetic that he’d lost the normal urge to ravage her there and then.Three months in a jungle with snakes, mosquitoes and scorpions and not a hot blooded woman in sight had converted him, and he was now desperate to feel her flesh against his.As the plane descended, Ned felt the pressure build up in his ears and his trousers. He...

UNCLE DAVES HOMECOMING

Uncle Dave’s Homecoming Eleven fifteen she thought as she looked at the clock on the V.C.R. Dam I’m not going to get the beach today. Anita had been looking forward to a day at the beach with friends from school for weeks. It was a hot summer’s day in Miami and instead of going to the beach party that she had planed, she was on her way to the airport to pick up her Uncle Dave, a man she hadn't seen in five years. As Anita took the 405 freeway out to Sky Harbor Airport she wonders if she would...

The Homecoming

The Homecoming By Ricky When he arrived home he was greeted by the blinking red light on the answering machine. Shrugging out of his coat he thought, 'Probably some damn salesman.' It had been a tough day, details nagging and pecking at his soul until his spirit sagged as deeply as the lines on an old man's face. With a weary shrug he pressed the button on the machine. A low, quavering voice broke the stillness of the room. "Peter... Peter it's me. Please... Peter you have...

Going Back to Homecoming

It was some years later that our class was invited back to our college, it was customary for the graduating class to invite another previous class to homecoming. There was the normal type of entertainment, we were invited to instruct some classes and to perform in our schools amateur stage shows. On Saturday before the big game we were encouraged to participate in the days activities. After some excruciating sprints and touch football, we were allowed the opportunity to shower and dress in...

Peter and Dash Homecoming

Hopefully I'll be able to finish off the characters from the Tucker stories here. Then we can get on to much better and more interesting stories. Peter and Dash: Homecoming By Wolverine Almost a year before this story begins, a young man named Tucker came under the possession of a strange entity. The entity corrupted Tucker's soul, his sister's (Whitney), and his mother's (Sherry). Murder, lust, prostitution, and the loss of souls were only a few of the sins they committed. A young...

The Homecoming

The Homecoming by Heather Ann Scared and worried about how I would be accepted, I walked through the snow toward the front door of the house I grew up in but had not seen for years. The world around me seemed to be holding its breath in anticipation along with me. Standing there for a moment, I took a deep breath and then rang the doorbell. The first face I saw was that of Momma when she opened the door. She looked like I remember only a little bit older, but still a...

The Homecoming

Note: I posted this story on Crystal's Storysite in 2002. It received a generally positive response. I haven't written anything since, but I am posting it here to give it a wider audience. Aoife Martin, 2004. The Homecoming By Aoife Martin "Miss?" Something shook my shoulder. "We're here Miss. End of the line." It took a little while for my senses to kick in and realise where 'here' actually was. Home. Or, at least, the town I had grown up in. I looked out the window of the...

CHRISTYS HOMECOMING

Christy’s Homecoming I had been away at college for about eight months when I decided to pay a long over due visit home. Since leaving the comforts of my family it had been a very lonely time for me. I had always had the love and the shelter of my family, growing up as the only girl in a house where five men ruled was not easy, but all that changed the night of my sixteenth birthday, for it was on that night that I became my family’s sex toy and the dynamics of my family changed forever.I had...

SURPRISE HOMECOMING

HOMECOMINGIt had been a long tiring trip and I had forgotten to call home to tell my wife I was on my way. “Oh well”, I thought, “She’ll be glad I was coming home early to surprise her” Needless to say I would be the surprised one. I walked around to the rear of my house to put the stuff down that I had bought on my business trip for the house, depositing them on the chaise lounge. The back door was unlocked so I just walked into the living room. I heard some indefinable noise coming from down...

Transitions Part 2 Homecoming

Transitions. Part 2 The Homecoming. By Colleen Chapter 7. Shopping It was only about five minutes after three when I saw my Aunt's car pull into the lane leading up to the main building. She parked close to the front door and got out of the car then walked to the main doors of the building. Our eyes met as she entered the lobby. "Kevin? Is that you?" she asked. "It used to be," I said in my new lilting voice. "I'm Colleen now Aunt Gwen." "Well I'll be. Kev......

The Homecoming

It's the end of a busy work week and I can't wait to finally leave the building and go home. I haven't seen you for almost 2 weeks and you are the only thing on my mind as I walk out into the bright sunshine. The only way of communication during your business trip are the late night talks on Skype and your sweet messages you leave on my cell. After arriving at the house I realize that I have less then 90 minutes left to prepare for the little surprise I planed for your homecoming. Entering our...

The Neighbor Homecoming

It was summer vacation and I left town helping out a sick relative. My stay lasted a month and a half and I was on my way home. The day was hot but not as bad as it was before I left. Still, it was good to be back home. I got onboard the elevator where I ran into one of my neighbors. He was an old man who always complained about the noises Cynthia and I always made. He just passed me by not bothering to make any eye contact. I had the elevator all to myself and was on my way to the sixth floor....

The Homecoming

The homecoming By Cassandra Morgan The skies are high in the midwest. Luke always smiled when he heard his neighbors say that. Hell, he imagined the sky was high in New York or Chicago, too. But there was something about the flatness of the land that made the Kansas sky seem higher. The blueness was so vast, so expansive. Even now, Luke McCall looked. One small cloud hovered above. That meant no rain today. That meant he had to turn on the irrigation pumps. Above him, a...

A kind of homecoming

A kind of homecoming: My husband Rob had just been demobbed from the army. I went to meet him at the base. I was delighted I no longer would feel the constant fear I had of getting that knock on the door and finding his commanding officer there to tell me he had been killed or maimed fighting some stupid war in some foreign country no one had ever heard of. We had three daughters, Cecilia, Rita and Joan and one son, Bobbie. Bobbie was a keen competitive swimmer. The girls all did...

A High School Homecoming

A High School Homecoming... The little Clique, made up of my former classmates who had been in charge back in High School, was elated. The very fact that he had bothered to respond at allto their invitation was considered to be quite a feather in their cap. The E-mail sent from his office, no doubt by his Secretary, had simply read: Hello all, Tour schedule permitting, I'll try to make it home this year for our Class Reunion. Warm regards, Smokey Joe I found myself laughing at the...

Twins Do Homecoming

The Tucker twins' social life was so constantly busy, they were both getting laid at least three times a week that fall, that they had almost forgotten the prep school boys they had met at the beach when they spent a rather frantic weekend with the principal and his buddies. (See "A Pair for the Principal") Then Madison got an e-mail on her cell phone, a question. She showed the message to her sister when Kimberly was through sucking her current best boyfriend and sent him home,...

FaithfulChapter 9 Andrews Homecoming

"Ah Nevers, hah, you are surprised to see me. I'm glad. Please don't get up." "Master Andrew! Well, I must say you are certainly correct," said the overseer. "Thought you were in England." He set aside his spectacles and quill and then donned his wig and patted his crown to settle it. "Right, as usual, as always. Indeed I was, at school in fact. Miserable place, cold and unfriendly. Terrible food, awful, not fit for a field hand." Andrew M'Kenna flipped out the tails of his...

SophomoreChapter 11 Homecoming

We had already boarded our flight when Shirley asked why I was so quiet. "I guess I've just got a lot on my mind," I said, not wanting to divulge that I had thought of nothing but Darien's letter since Tammy let me read it. If she didn't trust me enough to tell me about the harassing letters and telephone calls from her ex-boyfriend she had no right to know the plan I was forming to put a stop to them. "We'll get to the bottom of this, sweetheart. Maybe it will turn out to be nothing...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 5 Housemates

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 63 Back to Work

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. Your guess is as good as anyone’s right about now.” “Steve, do you have a minute?”...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

July, 1982, Milford, Ohio I woke up early on Friday morning to make breakfast for Kara and her mom before she went to work. Mrs. Blanchard was surprised, but very pleased. After her mom left for work, Kara gave me a fierce kiss. “Thanks for staying in and cooking breakfast for us,” Kara said. “I hope that doesn’t cause you trouble with Stephanie, with you breaking your normal routine.” “Don’t worry about it,” I said, kissing her back. “We got in a bit later than I expected, and she’ll...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 38 Jennifer

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois After Rosie left, I stripped the sheets from my bed, as well as the cover of the duvet, and tossed everything into the washing machine. I lit a lavender candle in the room, and then swept and dusted. I did a quick spot-check of the rest of the house and noticed that the tub in the sauna needed to be cleaned. I scrubbed it, then mopped the sauna floor with a damp sponge mop. I finished cleaning the sauna about the time the washing machine finished, so I moved...
