He called back to the living room.

Jake called it.

Carol got up and padded back to Jake’s room.
“If anyone could know how miserable you and Leanne are, don’t you think it would be me?”
“I guess. How did you get her to decide?”
“I saw that she was unhappy, so I got her to talk to me. When everything was on the table, I told her how I could help. When she saw that the issues that kept her at the mercy of your father could be dealt with, she didn’t hesitate for a second.”
