Lying in the hut on his mat the next morning, Zack's mind slowly cleared from the clouds of sleep. Looking around the bamboo hut Zack slowly became aware he was not alone on the bed; somebody was still next to him. He vaguely recalled the events from the night before just as he was falling asleep. Nani had shared his bed, but since he'd been so exhausted from the day, the memory was rather dim. As carefully as possible, he turned on his left side, and looked over at the young native woman, as she was lying there asleep. Zack was still surprised at how quickly he was recovering from his wound, and how the pain was lessening. Turning over had actually been almost pain-free.
As he laid there staring at Nani, Zack realized he'd never really had the time to study her this closely. He'd noticed the scar on her cheek, and had seen her semi-nudity, but until this moment, he'd never really taken the time to examine her carefully. The more he gazed at her sleeping form, the more overwhelmed he was with her beauty. As he lay there, the slowly receding darkness of night was now revealing her shapely body. He could see her ripe firm breasts covered with chocolate-colored nipples, which were now awake and rigid in the morning coolness. He studied her attractiveness, and he felt dumbfounded by the thought that anybody could feel repulsed by the scar on her cheek.
Zack knew he'd spent a hard life at sea, and was not good at judging a woman's beauty, but something inside of him told him this young woman lying next to him was something special. He decided that even if her scar was noticeable, how could anyone think that it took something away from her beauty? Above all else, he knew he was grateful to her ... grateful she'd taken care of him ... grateful she'd fed him ... and that she'd looked after him while he had been incapable of doing it himself. He felt he owed her a great debt. Actually, he felt he owed her his very life. Moreover, as he lay on his matt staring at her in the early morning dawn he wondered how he could ever repay her.
Beecher watched as her eyes opened, and she looked over at him. She smiled timidly at him, carefully reached out, and touched his right arm. She said something softly to him, and he guessed she was asking how his arm felt. Gently he lifted his arm, and was once more pleased how little pain there was. At one point, he must've grimaced, because Nani quickly reached out, and softly pulled his arm back down. Her action of moving his arm down brought her body close to his, and he leaned forward, and kissed her on her cheek ... the cheek with the scar. She tried to pull back, but Zack shook his head back and forth at the same time saying, "No ... no!"
Nani tried to hang her head in shame, but Beecher reached out, and lifted her chin, so the she was looking straight into his eyes. Once more, Zack shook his head no, then leaned forward, and gently kissed Nani on her lips. He felt her lips tremble, and heard a soft moan. After a few seconds, she pulled away, got up, and fled from the tent.
With great difficulty, Beecher pushed himself up from his matt, and stumbled to the front opening of the hut. Several of the village women were moving around outside, as they were about to prepare the morning meal. Zack decided it was several days since his last bath. He wondered if could remember how to return to the small lake with the waterfall where Nani had first found him. When the native was carrying Zack back up to the village he was so shocked with the effortless way that he carried him, he didn't pay much attention to the journey.
After a couple of wrong turns, Zack finally stumbled upon the lake. At the lake, he removed what was left of his clothing, and he waded into the waters. The water was refreshing, and he tried to see if he could swim a little. His arms were a little stiff, but he could manage to paddle gently across the lake. He ducked his head under the waterfall a couple of times, and then started back across the lake.
As he paddled towards the shore he watched Nani come down the path coming down to the lake. She stopped, and dropped the covering from her pubic area. Zack just floated in the water, mesmerized by the exquisiteness of the young native. She waded out past her waist, and then ducked under the water. Zack watched in silence, as the young woman emerged from the water; snapped her hair forward and then back after which she shook her hair, and reached up to arrange it. Nani's beauty of movements, and her sensuality made Zack gasp.
He was close enough to her now, so he spoke softly to her. She looked startled at finding him in the lake at first, and then she timidly smiled at him. She swam towards him, and when she was close enough, he pulled her to him. He reached out with his right arm, and put the palm of his hand on her cheek. He smiled at her, then leaned forward, and kissed her again on her lips. This time she threw both arms around his neck, and returned his kiss with gusto.
When their lips parted, Zack smiled at her, kissed her on her forehead, and embraced her. Nani squeezed his neck one more time, kissed Zack quickly on his lips, and then started to swim towards the shore. Zack felt he was lucky the cool water kept him from getting an erection. Since he had no way of knowing how old Nani was, or what experience she might have had with sexual matters, two things concerned him. He wanted to make sure that she was not frightened and that she should see his arousal.
The sun was shining on them, as they emerged from the water, warming them, and drying them off. Zack pulled on what was left of his pants, wondering, as he tied the tattered remains around his middle, how much longer he was going to have any pants to wear. It suddenly came to mind how the captain's clothing didn't look as tattered and torn, as his clothing. If the captain had been here all these years, Zack felt that by this time, his clothing should have totally worn out. He'd have to ask the captain why his clothes looked so good. Nani had secured the covering across her front, and she made motions asking Zack if he wanted to eat. He nodded his head, and after he put on the remnants of his pants, they set off back to the village.
Zack's had half-completed his breakfast when Destand showed up Zack's hut. The captain asked if he could come in, and the first mate warmly welcomed him. "When you finish with your breakfast, there's something I'd like to show you on the other end of the island."
"I'm really curious now. Care to tell me anything about it?"
"No, I want this as a total surprise," and he smiled warmly at the first mate.
Zack quickly finished his meal, and stood to go with the older man. Nani stood, and said something to the captain. The captain replied, and then told Zack she'd asked if she could go with them, and if she went, would that concern him. Zack told him he wanted her with him, so he could start working on learning her language.
As they entered the jungle, Zack noticed there were half dozen native men waiting to go with the three of them. While Zack walked with Nani, he'd point at various things, and then ask Nani what her word was for the object. By the time they had reached the other end of the island, Zack had learned several words as well as a few simple sentences. A couple of times when Zack would try to use Nani's words she'd take his left arm, and squeeze it again her body to show her affection. She seemed very pleased he was trying to learn her language.
