A Destroyer came a week later. May was in her office working on her clients' records. She had transferred most of her money to two offshore accounts in a fictitious name, made provisions for her family, and sent out checks to all her clients with a business letter with each check telling them she couldn't manage their accounts any longer. She then meditated on strengthening every aspect of her mind, spirit, and body.
This Destroyer wasn't too effective. She killed it easily. The flat was torn apart frightening both Barbara and April. She knew that the Council would send back one who was much stronger. She prepared for the inevitable. She searched her mind on what to do if they were able to kill her body.
"I have three plane tickets and put ten million dollars in a Fairbanks. Alaska bank. You are going there," May insisted. Andy stood amazed as he viewed the total devastation of their apartment. There was no sign of the Destroyer which she finally obliterated. The Council had made a mistake by sending one who was far too weak for her. She showed him all her wounds as proof of her fight. Then she proceeded to heal herself in front of him.
"What about my schooling?" Andy asked, watching her gaping slashes close and knit together without any scars.
"Your job now is to take our girls into an area where they won't go. One thing our kind can't stand is extreme cold. There will be warm days in summer but the majority of the time it will be frigid and cold. I want you to stay there until I contact you. Don't expect it to be too soon. I'll have to disappear once they kill my body. I will come back as another person and contact you. You can choose then to accept me or not. Our girls are the most important persons for the both of us."
"I don't want to leave," he moaned.
"It isn't a matter of want or not. This must be done. If need be, take Jill with you. She can mother the kids and be your bed partner after they're sleeping. I have left enough money there for you to buy a house, get settled, and make sure the kids will be safe."
"Jill won't come with me and I'm not sure I want her."
"I trust Jill. She'll make you a good companion. She can even take your name stating she's your wife. If it were just you and me, I'd go with your wishes. However Barbara and April must be safe. They saw my battle with that Destroyer," she put on a skirt and silk blouse just to cover herself.
"How will I be able to reach you?"
"You won't. May Flowers will be killed but I will live on. It breaks my heart for this to happen but those bastards wanted me to get rid of you and Breed with a male Breeder. I will not do it. I'll have it out with the next Destroyer and if I am victorious, they'll send another and another. They may even send two to three to make sure the job is done to the Council's satisfaction."
Jill agreed to join Andy. Living in Alaska seemed like an adventure to her. She was packed and ready to go within hours. May called a cab as soon as Jill arrived. May gave Andy one long kiss then sent him away. Once the cab pulled away May broke down and cried. She wept bitter tears as she packed a few bags to take to the Ritz Carlton to await her fate.
May Flowers sat with her back to the headboard of the bed. She was completely nude awaiting her enemy or enemies to arrive. She knew they were coming. She made no attempt to hide from them. Whoever it was had to be much more powerful than the puny one she had bested earlier.
Her kind hadn't learned any lessons from the past. They lose a war of near extinction, a remnant of which she was one escaped, floated across the universe for millions of years until they ran into this habitable planet. Inserted into the population, became a part of the human race, they got along for four hundred years, now they are enforcing the same code they lived by back on their home world. May believed that their arrogance and violence were the reasons they lost that inter-galactic war. She was one of the troops that took a beating. She barely alluded the enemy. Now she was in this luxury room awaiting to be slain by one of the Council's Destroyers.
It came at three am. The other had come during the day. This one was using stealth methods. May spotted him through her enhanced eyesight.
"You've come," she said softly.
"Yes, you know what I have to do."
"And you know what I must do."
It leaped at her but she flashed across the room as its claws ripped the pillows and mattress. May extracted her claws to equal it. Her fangs grew several inches as well as claws on her feet. She was preparing herself to fight as a big cat. It glared at her as she hid her body behind a chair knowing this was poor cover but it gave her a slight edge. It flew across the room knocking the chair aside. May slashed her claws at its abdomen causing it to cry out in an animalistic sound. Her foot flew at what was his head. She sent it across the room. May flew to him only to receive a large cut on her thigh. She hit him again in the head while ignoring the pain. She heard something crack and it stopped fighting. May immediately bit into what was a neck severing its nerve center rendering it useless. Using her super human strength she flung it into the lake which was over a quarter mile away.
