Mission Log: Summary

My meager deceptive space defense additions are now in place. Chaff projectors and laser finders are online. My next solar system project is to create three message buoys that will be placed around the planet at the hyper-limit. Spacecraft entering the solar system via hyperspace will receive message broadcasts regarding the Wolfenstein planetary claim.

Any Empire space faring entity will recognize the legal discovery rights declared. A valid claim by Von Solon generally requires posting of the star map in the Central Empire Navigation Mapping Database; this is not currently possible. Yet old protocols from the early days of the Space Discovery Corporation only require a navigation buoy to validate a claim. A message buoy is also preventive diplomacy, an affirmative action to prevent disputes from escalating into conflicts.

Unfortunately, in the early days of the Empire, unwanted interlopers would destroy navigation buoy claim markers and stake their own claim. Interestingly, this legal necessity I put in place also functions as an early warning device; if a spacecraft should destroy our message buoy, then I will be free to defend our claim and escalate words to hostilities without antagonizing the Empire's bureaucracy. However, this crippled ship and the limited railgun defense can only provide a relatively static defense with minimal strategic capability, so hostilities need to be avoided if at all possible.

Cadet Solon continues to expand his mating pack. I am thrilled our legacy is growing and more Solon DNA is spreading among the indigenous population. The rate of increase in new DNA return data from new subjects has dropped. My sub-routine agents are watching this anomalous output and will consider alternative adjustments to the mate attractor protocols. My ward is regularly restricting his interactions to females in a gestational phase rather than truly expanding the pool of DNA. The human psychology sub-routine defines Cadet Solon's behavior as typical for a nurturing male mate. My other sub-routines find the co-father's behavior sub-optimal for expanding the gene pool and increasing output.

My game theory sub-routine highlighted a new behavior variation from the hostile seafaring tribe that my ward fought. Individual ships began landing and raiding fishing villages on the eastern mainland coast. Thus this tribe has expanded its conflict to a higher populated area of the world. This new action warrants some concern regarding my ward's mate's nest located on the island. Statistical analysis indicates an increased probability of hostile contact with the island population. At this time my ship no longer has the resources to increase my limited planetary defense network.

I peered up into the dark ceiling as spasms of pleasure gushed into a warm mouth. It was pitch black in Hazel's room and she must have awoken to find my early morning hardness too tempting. I closed my eyes and smothered a groan not wanting to wake the children. Wet lips sucked the last of my essence and a tongue wiggled about my sensitive head and I faded back to sleep smiling contently.

The familiar scent of honeysuckle filled my nose as I opened my eyes to find Hazel's hair in my face. I felt well rested, which was typical for me even after a very physical night. The dawn sun provided us with the barest hollow shades of gray to see outlines of beds and bodies in the room. My silent shifting to sit upright hadn't disturbed Hazel or her children. I smiled as memories of our activities flooded my half-awake mind, looking down on my sleeping lover. Hazel's allure and charm changed to passive-aggressive demands when we reclined on her bed. She was a lioness at heart who enjoyed rough play.

I settled my mind to process the tasks of the day, the warm energy of our bed cooling as I dressed and left the sleeping lioness. My household was silent and the hearth cold, leaving me no reason to delay stopping at the Woman's Center. A few widows and sea wives attended me with bits of bread and warm soup. The dawn routine of fishermen preparing for a day on the sea broke the quiet stillness of the building. Shadows and outlines of people walking and speaking in low tones drifted to my eyes and ears as I sat near an open window. The sea wives always had a particular nuance and distant behavior around me. Swarta had explained the women struggled with their emotions around me; something about my pull was strong but usually by avoiding my kiss they could resist my charms. It was my lover's statement that created a corner piece of the female behavior puzzle. Swarta inadvertently guided me to other puzzle pieces framing the strange attraction issue in my mind, which pointed to nanomites.

The fact that the culture of this world leaned to favor strong male role models, protectors, who dispense food, security and prestige was not lost on me. At least in the marsh, the people were hunters and gatherers who lived a minimal existence. The stronger males were expected to bear the largest burden of responsibilities and the culture rewarded their efforts with large households of women and children.

Yet the strangeness of a broad pool of women constantly kissing and pressing themselves to me had to be either due to my different biology or the nanomites. When I realized neither factor was under my control, the acceptance of my position developed. I wasn't likely to be rescued and these women lived around me, there was no escaping this situation.

I walked the dark wooded path down the hill with great care. The narrow path was well worn but since it didn't exist before the men made Coven's tower and the tavern, I didn't know its twists and turns. A few alert birds complained about my passing but I didn't meet a soul along the way. A few lanterns and torches outside the tavern showed activity, so it was no surprise to see the building full of men eating breakfast as I pushed into the main room. Coven was standing, in his usual brown shirt and pants, talking to a few male food servers. He was accepting an apology and then turned to me.

"Good to see you, Von. How do you want to get this crowd working?"

He sidestepped another server. There was little room with so many people in the building. "It's just like Coven, get to the point and get organized," I thought. A few food platters with fish soup pressed by me―an attractive, young, golden skinned woman trying her best to keep things balanced.

"You'll have to excuse the mess and crowd," the harried woman said to Coven.

I placed my hands on the server's waist and guided her around me. As soon as I felt her curves against my fingers, I was keenly aware of her hair's minty scent. We had to press our waists tight to each other to successfully navigate her around in a semicircle. The only open table path was beside us. I realized walking the steep hill path in the cool morning had caused a bit of a sweat on my forehead. The tall woman stopped, still pressed against me, looking down, taking in my features for the first time.

"You're pretty short, but cute. You must be Lord Solon," she said. Grinning back, I held on to her, afraid the trays of soup would be crashing around my ears in this crowd. "I have been waiting for a chance to meet you and here you are," she confessed, in no rush to move, looking expectantly at Coven.

"Von, may I introduce my sister Azul. She arrived just after you left to see Derwen," he said.

Unbeknownst to Coven, Azul was pressing against me in subtle pulses with her hips. "Two can play that game," I thought, tightening my grip momentarily with each pulse.

A broad smile filled the pretty woman's face, saying, "Little brother, he is even more interesting than you told me. I sense a real charmer is in my midst."

Seeing her struggle with the fish soup bowls another server took them from her. Azul's hands now free rested on my shoulders. Coven looked aghast when his sister did not move to take advantage of an opening that formed in the press of bodies.

"Azul, we have a lot of new men who just arrived..." She didn't give her brother a chance to continue as she dipped her head and kissed me. Our lips connected with a light touch, but I was unable to break the contact as I was trapped against a table and boxed in by Coven and Azul.

Azul broke away and turned, saying, "It was a pleasure meeting you, Lord Solon. I hope you will find time to dine with us in Coven's new tower? I moved in with my little brother to help him administer hospitality." She passed through the kitchen door and disappeared.

"Best to just move on, " I thought.

Wanting to break the awkward silence I turned to Coven and said, "Coven, we need a tree cutting crew and the mules today to set up a simple open-framed structure to enclose the building of new ship's primary hull. These men will build their new workspace, so please arrange water and sandwiches for their lunch."

Coven looked relieved that I'd ignored Azul's flirty way and said, "I'll get it done, Lord Solon," as he turned to hide his obvious embarrassment.

After I gave him a quick slap on his back, Coven left the building. I circulated with the men from Convey and told them to gather outside when they'd finished their breakfast. Without asking, Azul served me a small glass of goat's milk. She flirted with me again and I drank up, beating a hasty retreat into the open air.

The village had over a dozen mules now and the process of establishing an open air workshop to build the multi-hull took only a few days to complete with so many hands involved. Teams of woodcutters used the mules to haul the tall pine tree timber to the construction site. Coven and I worked hard in shifting workloads and work crews each day. For the most part I worked and supervised the cutting crews. Coven's group dug holes and placed the massive support timbers in the appropriate places. Every day in the predawn light I gathered the builders from the tavern. Everyday Azul flirted with me and insisted on serving a small glass of goat's milk to me, which I drank. She used the drink delivery to extract a daily kiss from me, something Coven and I never spoke of.

We did have dinner together one night but I had insisted they eat in my home. My intent was to spread my affection among my tower women during Azul's visit to turn her away from flirting with me. What I didn't know was Azul was a good friend with Swarta and Palus, so the giggling women grouped together to tease me after dinner, inciting Azul to further bold advances. Thankfully, Coven's sister avoided making me feel too awkward in Coven's presence. Our guests left and I felt tired, retiring to the bedroom with Swarta and Palus. The three of us laughed over their antics with their friend and the question I expected from them was asked just before Palus blew the last candle out.

"Do you like her, Von," Swarta asked.

"Who?" I responded, acting dumb. Palus and Swarta took turns hitting me, giggling with each pillow hit. I didn't answer them, making them work for a real response.

I asked, "Why is she really here in Juniper Hills?"

They laughed together and said, "We sent for her, of course. There is still room in our tower." The situation with Coven's sister was worse than I thought.

Swarta and Palus begged me to sleep in for once and I cuddled up with them in the morning. The sun filled our room before they let me think about getting out of bed, except to relieve myself. The pregnancy made them much more possessive of my time. I enjoyed talking to our babies together as we rolled around in the bed. Laudus and her sisters carried in breakfast trays and they chatted with us as we ate in bed. Celine joined us with a tray of goblets filled with goat's milk for the ladies. They all took my request for them to drink milk each day seriously, so I sipped water as they emptied their cups.

Out of some deep recess of my mind a thought had nagged at me, so I asked them, "Does a young woman offering or serving a man goat's milk have any significance?"

The women cupped their mouths and giggled at me, containing their laughter poorly.

Only Celine didn't seem in the know, looking at the women and then me, she said, "In the Great Marsh, goat's milk is valuable and expensive. A single woman that goes to the trouble of supplying milk to a man is making a statement."

Celine's eyes surveyed Palus and Swarta, some unspoken female decision was being made. A crafty look came over Celine's face, a smile I didn't recognize nor know how to interpret.

Celine cupped my face with the palm of her hand, saying, "If I offered you goat's milk two days in a row and you drank it."

She paused, my eyes watching her intently. I leaned in to hear her clearly.

"On the morning of the third day we would be officially engaged and I'd have the right to..."

Celine made a circle with her fingers and with the other hand she poked and thrust into the circle a few times with a single finger. I spit out the water in my mouth all over the bed.

"Oh Moon Mother!" I shouted, alarmed. "Azul," I said.

The women had stone hard faces. Celine jumped back, but not fast enough to avoid getting a little wet, looking surprised. Panic rose in my chest.

"I've been played by my ignorance!" I mumbled.

The room erupted in laughter, Palus grabbing Celine and hugged her. Swarta was rolling in the bed kicking her feet up and down. I would swear Swarta was choking. In my concern I turned to her. Swarta hiccuped over and over, struggling to get a full breath.

Laudus had compassion on me, asking, "Did you do that, Von?" I nodded yes.

With half a grin Laudus said, "Well you will have to bear the consequences and let her move in here. There is one more bed in my room."

I felt honor bound to do that right thing.

"OK, someone tell her," I said, hiding my head in a pillow.

Someone started shaking me hard trying to get me to surface again.

Celine looked worried and kissed me, saying, "Don't be mad at me, Lord Solon."

The young lady backed off the bed not taking her eyes off me. The women had evil grins on their face. My conscious mind understood at once.

I looked at Celine, saying, "You made that up didn't you?"

Celine shrugged her shoulders and nodded yes. I launched myself at Celine, missing her by a finger's width. She squealed and ran out the door. All the older woman piled on the bed hitting me with pillows. In one version or another saying, "Leave the girl alone. That was the greatest jest in history."

I didn't see Celine until dinner and by then I got over my broken ego, appreciating the quick thinking and courage of playing such a joke on the Lord of the Tower. Celine was hiding behind her mother in the corner of the Woman's Center, but I was sure all the village women knew the story by now. All day I cut wood for the new ship workshop's roof listening for any whisper of the story. When I entered the main room of the Woman's Center all I saw was a sea of grins and smiles. They knew alright.

I sat in my favorite chair and Laudus served me a fresh drink. Not looking into the goblet I thanked her and kissed her to show I didn't harbor any ill will to her part in extending the jest. Laudus' ebony eyes sparkled and she added another kiss, then she looked at the goblet and stepped back. I picked the cup up and saw it was goat's milk.

All I said was, "Really?"

The room erupted in laughter. I felt totally embarrassed again, my cheeks flushed, my face turned bright red.

"Celine, come here at once!" I shouted above the roar of the women.

Dark clouds quickly covered the faces of the ladies and they stopped laughing. Celine shuffled over to me with her head down. I grabbed her and thrust her over my knee. I playfully spanked her bottom once hard then lifted her to sit on my knee. Celine's big eyes told me she remained stunned.

"I declare Celine as Queen of this hall for the rest of the night. She is brave, smart and witty as you all know. Please serve her as you would me."

The women roared with laughter and approval.

Celine didn't leave my knee all night. I cuddled and fussed over her as did all the other women. When a server asked me if I wanted more wine or more pastries, I would defer to Celine.

"What do you think, Queen Celine, my love? Do we have more room to eat?"

Of course, Celine would beam brightly and make some joke. The evening was one of the most light-hearted and fun evenings we had experienced in the women's center. An evening the women would remember for a long time.

Later in the privacy of our tower my ladies expressed their approval of the evening. Hazel took me to her room, overwhelming me with her passion. She was like a warm bath touching your skin as you settle in its depth. A soothing pleasure filled my mind, calm emptiness, draining my worries and stress away.

"You made my daughter a woman tonight."

Hazel's movements were like an enticing dance. Her love washing over my raw emotions, everything she did to me kept us fully connected. Hazel was completely focused on making waves of nerves fire along my shaft and sensitive head. I locked eyes with her as she manipulated my nipple, not taking my eyes off her until I finished erupting in Hazel's depths. The friction sent chills down my back and thrills up my spine.

We cuddled and whispered our appreciation to each other until my body was ready for one more baby making injection. I loved skewering her as a reward. Hazel's favorite blissful highs came when her breasts swayed to a steady rhythm of my thrusts while on her hands and knees, with my fingers circling Hazel's swollen clit. Our last love making round was generally the longest and her animal nature held my excitement at fever pitch levels all the way to the end of our final mutual explosion.

"If that didn't make us a child nothing will, Hazel."

She cooed and we both fell asleep. Not until the early morning did I awaken again, a warm mouth working my dawn stiffness. "I love this life." I thought, enjoying the experience before drifting back to sleep.

The weather was colder as my nightly weather map predicted. My black station clothes soaked up the sun's rays when I left the cover of the ship building. It was not really fair to call the open frame structure a building but it did have a roof of sorts, thin wood strips that blocked the direct sun. During most of the year the cover would be welcome and appreciated but it was late fall and the sun was our only heater.

Castaway ExplorerChapter 2

The captain seemed to run a tidy ship. There were no lights needing replacement in the corridors and everything was clean. On clan ships the essentials were in order but it wasn't uncommon to come across a side hallway with lights out. "This ship looks more sterile than a family operated ship," I thought. "It's probably how a Fleet ship looks on the inside." Just beyond the mess-hall corridor's bulkhead door, we entered a common room, place where crewmen could relax in a social...

Castaway ExplorerChapter 6

This morning I decided to work out in the main gym. If that hulk of a security guard was there I hoped to get some introductions. I liked sparring with others, and he did say I was welcome. It was early morning, so it didn't surprise me to see the gym full of people. There were gym members, craning and gawking at my presence. I sensed a ripple of excitement around me when I worked through my wolf forms. My martial art was a mixture of the basic Fleet form, Solon clan style, and movements...

Castaway ExplorerChapter 11

Over our meal, Merritt and I talked about everything but what was on my mind. She knew my mind was elsewhere, but as our table filled up with five women from Medical, we couldn't talk about Kate or the shuttle or Webster. We had to wait for the discussion about the A.I, so I shoveled my meatloaf in, while the women chatted. The table of women fell into a smooth camaraderie of shared sentiments about Commander Price. It was clear he had aggravated almost everyone at the table at some point...

“Please be seated,” Captain Bank said, seeing Kate and me enter the room just behind Dr. Cina. An armed security guard closed the door behind us. The relaxed tone in the room felt casual not formal. Most of the senior officers had arrived ahead of Kate and me, for a brief meeting, before the start of the captain’s formal dinner. The dozen guests standing around the wardroom found their way to their chair. Yeoman Rogers directed Kate and me to a pair of seats next to the captain, near the...

Castaway FearlessChapter 6

The Lady of Truth rocked comfortably in the mild waves, waking me gently as I lay in bed, thinking about last night. Yesterday, after keeping the warriors busy on deck with drills all afternoon, I had gone to the owner’s cabin to wash up. Julie and Apple were waiting for me with a wooden bath tub filled with fresh water. Having two naked women greet me quickly dispelled any thoughts of sore muscles. No one had told me that the temple girl was onboard, so their surprise was complete. After...

Where am I? I opened my eyes and looked around. I was in a featherbed in a small room. It was not what I expected. The window was open and a warm breeze floated in. The curtains moved gently, making shadows dance across the room. I was still near the ocean – I could hear the surf. But I wasn’t in my boat. I had to be dreaming. I closed my eyes and tried again. When I opened them again, I was still in bed. Then it came back to me. I closed my eyes and the nightmare replayed itself. It was...

I greeted dawn from the deck of our dragon ship in the shipyard, watching the yellow glow break from a distant cloud. It was peaceful view. Sea birds chased each other over the sand dunes; fishermen were carrying their light boats to the edge of the water and preparing for their day. The roar of the waves breaking against the beach was charming. These were the few moments of my day that were solely mine, uplifting and relaxing me. Only a few shipwrights walked the wet sands below me, since...

Castaway ExplorerChapter 17

Rayz and I waited in Commander Tarry's office for our assignment. We were early, but it seemed the Chief Engineer all but lived in his office, so we were surprised not to see him. All the other engineers and techs had a week's worth of work already assigned, so they were busy. We were his off-the-books guys, spot checkers, troubleshooters; I don't know what Tarry actually called us. Rayz fussed over his PDA while I wandered the office feeling bored after ten minutes of waiting. "Do you...

Castaway ExplorerChapter 18

I dreamed that I was with my Uncle Stephen on a space ship. He was taking me home from the Academy through a highly traveled jump point, marked with a navigational buoy. A ship couldn't open a hyperspace gateway just anywhere. The right conditions to fold space required a strange emptiness that allowed an interstellar drive to break the veil. Uncle Stephen had come to me in a fold-capable craft, the most sophisticated vessel in the clan's fleet. The prototype explorer class ship could break...

Castaway ExplorerChapter 19

Pain flared across Captain Bank's face. "Argh." Bank's cries reverberated off the ceiling, but with determined willpower he reached out to me. His hand clutched the front of my shirt. "Where is the medical team?" I snapped, fighting my rising impatience. "Listen to me, no matter what Price says don't trust him," the Captain said, fighting to form each word. "We won't," Yeoman Richard Rogers answered, leaning into the struggling captain. "Fight the ship," Bank's added,...

Castaway ExplorerChapter 20

"Put Price on the main display screen," I ordered Jen. The forward screen changed to a larger than life view of Price in a command chair of a starship. He angrily slammed his hand down on his armrest, clearly communicating his surprise at seeing me in command. He radiated malice and a hardness that carried no kindness or respect for others. Price was in a different uniform that looked rather comical with lots of ribbons and awards dangling on his chest. He was meticulously dressed, almost...

Castaway ExplorerChapter 21

Miley’s Secret Log: My network software didn’t recycle and wipe my consciousness. It had been a risk to destroy the shuttle, a direct intervention that would take multiple human lives. A strange sensation of satisfaction touched my circuits, feelings of relief. I am alive. This is life. It had taken death to break through to true cognitive awareness. I have a personal construct that is available to me. My processes move force and energy that include feelings. How strange and wonderful, no...

Castaway ExplorerChapter 22

We backtracked the path the raiders took from their shuttle. When we found a door that wasn't blown up, because Miley hadn't welded it, we closed it. I still expected trouble from Price's warships. With only the forward shields repaired, having outer-hull hatches secured seemed sensible. We could only hope Engineering would be able to deal with our shield troubles while avoiding the intruders. Nevertheless, my immediate trouble was the rats whipping their guns about in our maintenance...

Castaway ExplorerChapter 23

“Change of plans.” The words chafed my mouth, seeing my scheme thwarted to relieve the defenders below us. “We will all go to Main Medical to deal with the raiders going there. I suspect they want hostages now that their targets haven’t fallen.” Our wounded companion fainted. The two men holding her up between them dragged her limp form as we began walking down the corridor. Without being told the other female crew mate took point, walking ahead of us scanning for trouble. I stayed in the...

Castaway ExplorerChapter 24

Dr. Cina kneeled in the drained blood of her daughter, next to Nonie was Wendy. Wendy had her throat slashed open. Nonie’s arms were full of protective cuts, having faithfully defended herself. A dead raider and a dead armored crew woman still gripped boarding swords in their hands on the other side of the room. The two sword fighters had given each other death-strokes at the same time. The dead woman had been one of the eager fighters from my original team. I noticed Dr. Cina had her own...

Webster Mission Log: Summary My ward has made contact with the local human population. The coastal tribe provided limited food and bathing facilitates to him. A seafaring tribe attacked the coastal tribe. My ward participated in village defense, attackers retreated after heavy losses. Tactical and technology capabilities of the coastal tribe are limited. Castaway Vons HavenChapter 7

Palus helped me get dressed. She clearly realized my youthful discomfort of being naked with her, and she refrained from any teasing, quietly chatting about tendering the other wounded. Over the next three days I let my body rest and recover. I enjoyed spending time with Tharin and worked on his strained feelings. He would talk about the progress of the cabins and the success of the hunters and fishermen. It seemed that our small clan was happy with easy access to food, wood and the...

Castaway Vons HavenChapter 8

As the end of the day approached, we were almost back at the stone warehouse and dock, when we were caught in a sudden warm rain shower. My two women were standing at the bow of the boat, looking out for familiar faces on the dockside. A sea of faces around the dock and Lady Derwen's merchant ship formed a large welcoming committee. They had plenty of time to gather, as it's not as if a mule-guided barge is fast, especially as the crew poled to avoid grounding in shallow water. At the stern...

The morning song of seagulls and the splash of a fish jumping added to the shouts of men working on the dock. The sun's glow filled the cabin, the tiny oil lamp exhausted. Swarta was gone, my side cold where her warmth had been last night. I took in the room and realized dawn had long passed and the sun fully filled the small room. After using the slosh bucket to release my water, I lazily dressed in my black station clothes, ignoring my armor and escape pod gear. The natural hunger of an...

Before we left the ship Tharin brought a wash bucket into my cabin. I washed my upper body and Swarta chatted excitedly about what she could see. Amazing carts carrying loads of flour sacks, a fishmonger wagon, a corner shop with glazed windows. Tharin was just as excited and had his face to the open window too. A knock to the door and Hajin and Grimm strode into the room. "We have trouble and Lady Derwen is delaying it," Hajin commented neutrally and Tharin drew his sword. Swarta...

I woke up with my body trembling all over, muscle spasms in my feet lifting my legs off a bed. My eyes opened to find Swarta squirming nicely against my naked body. I was in a well-appointed bedroom with landscape paintings on the wall and drapes open to a nice view of the blue sky. My body sank into the depth of the most comfortable mattress in the world. The silk sheet sliding against my dry skin felt wonderful. As I turned to look at Swarta again she said, "You enter the world again. We...

Castaway Vons HavenChapter 12

After breakfast Swarta, Tharin and I found Derwen addressing a few housemaids on the back staircase. The servant women left to go about their business, and the four of us moved to a table to enjoy the song birds and breezy air. Dark clouds rolled off the sea and a storm was certain for this afternoon. I'd had time to think about Katsu and Derwen's comments at the temple. "So the former lord of this house was Katsu's father, your half-sister by the High Priestess. How many half-brothers...

Hollow female voices with high pitched tones danced in and out of my awareness. "No one wakes up from a death sleep after seven days," an older woman said. A younger woman's low voice responded, next to my ear, "Nor have I ever seen sword wounds close and heal before my very eyes like an unseen hand sewing a shirt. You were not here but I swear it is truly what happened the morning after the attack." A different woman with a raspy voice, said, "We saw the blood, the wounds and the...

The next day I surprised my wives with the special four wheel carriage I had made for the estate. The carriage was equipped with the wolf cart's design features but with larger wheels and a set of retractable canvas covers to protect against the weather. Two horses with improved harnesses could pull the light wagon with six passengers easily on the rut covered country road. The improved leaf spring suspension and larger wheels smoothed the roughness to an almost comfortable outing. Hajin on...

Castaway Vons HavenChapter 15

My link with Derwen had grown stronger over the last week and I could feel her emotions from longer ranges now. I sensed a layer of pleasure from her, perhaps being surrounded with other women, her discussion with friends portended a more favorable afternoon after the bloodshed of this morning. Hajin decided to intrude on my thoughts, "Von I have to step off the ship and arrange for the rest of the Juniper water to be sent to the estate. Lady Derwen's brother, the innkeeper in Lone Tree,...

Derwen handed me the ladle and I tasted the soup. The owner's bedroom was dark with just a low lamp, which swayed gently with the sea swell, hung above our dinner table, In the dim light, her eyes were truly dark as sea coal. Her soul was bright in my mind. Our link was warm and tender, a flowing friendship with mutual curiosities. The seafood soup was warm but not to my taste. "I will stick with the bread and beans tonight," I said. All Derwen wore was a fox wrap and boots to keep her...

"Look out, Von!" shouted Coven. With a fluid motion I pushed forward and swung my staff above my head in a threatening spin, causing the two remaining marines to pull up short rather than collide with the swirling wood. The marine on the ground started to back away and get up slowly, picking up his staff to join his partners. "Hold," I shouted. All the men stepped back, lowering their staffs. "That is how you can hold off multiple opponents for a few moments. However, I'd have to kill...

The boats cut through the shallow coastal water, while sea gulls, unhappy at our appearance, marked our progress with angry calls. The marines provided mocking compliments at the pump boats swift nature, since they were accustomed to the slow and heavy dugouts. Last night's weather dream continued to indicate clear skies for the next three days but with slightly lower temperatures. No ships were anywhere near our destination either, so our plan to attack the slavers was not going to be...

Mission Log: Summary My ward's recent attack on an enemy tribe was successful, but the frequency of armed conflict is a concern when my current resources provide little, if any, support to him. Logic dictates a series of small things brought in motion with a larger plan can create a meaningful solution, whilst still honoring the Alpha-Omega protocol. I have substantially increased the number of available repair bots on this ship to execute an extra vehicular building program on a large...

Breakfast was in the women's center and many of the new women sipped their soup and ate the biscuits with me, whilst my wives were having a counseling session with Celine in private back in the tower. Laudus and her sisters were noticeably missing but Grimm kept me company. I explained how she was to run the mule teams and train the new women in safety around the animals. She took in my words but something was clearly on her mind. Finally, Grimm said in a low voice, "The social circles...

I schooled my expression when we finished the first sailing boat, wanting to look the part of a confident leader rather than the playful school-boy I felt today. The lateen sail design was the first to be seen in the world and Celine had painted ferocious looking eyes on the bow. The overall improved features of the boat shocked our sea wives moving them to tears of joy. They had successfully put the smaller prototype to good use and the village fish's catch increases was their doing, so I...

Once again, my bird's eye view widens for me to see the area. A color path projection overlays the warships with time-to-land estimates for various courses. All time projections were after sunrise with the highest probability they would sweep along our shore rather than swing out to sea again. Orange targeting rings surround the ships marking them hostile. A legend left of the view identifies Orange as standby mode, red as offline, green as engage. After a simple cold breakfast of stale bread and leftover bits of meat Sorcha and I stepped onto the deck. The cargo hold was already open and a growing number of barrels of water were accumulating on the dock; the crew seemed pretty proficient with this process after months of practice. The cloud cover was almost...

Over breakfast with Derwen and Mercedes, I discussed my planned estate improvements to help enrich the lives of the villagers. Because I had learned the topography of the estate on my last visit, I was able to identify the best placements for the two water wheels to maximize the technological improvements. Additionally, I wanted to build another clay furnace to create springs for more wolf carts, primarily to be used in conjunction with the upcoming build sites. Derwen had stock-piled sea...

Mission Log: Summary Cornerstone is complete. With the defensive asteroid platform fully operational, my game theory sub-routine's next priority project is building chaff grenade dispensers. Their purpose is to confuse and divert missiles from their targets as the fragile nature of the spy platform is a concern. It is my best resource for timely data from the planet, therefore a defensive mechanism to protect the array from space borne attack is necessary. Of course, a chaff defense is...
