The ship was at General Quarters as Captain Kenneth Thompson ran onto the bridge. The ship was nearing the asteroid belt. Looking over at Lieutenant Kathy Jenson at the ships helm, he moved to his chair and began issuing his orders.

"Kathy, raise the shields and take us into the belt. Deploy recon drones for surveillance. Spin up all shield generators to minimum power."

Sitting down in his chair, he looked over at Commander White at the weapons station.

"Ted, how many Lightning fighters are ready for launch? What's the status on ship's weapons?"

Kathy went to work and started typing the course into the asteroid field. At the same time, thirty small drones were ejected from one of the missile tubes.

"Going in now, Sir. Drones are deployed and are taking up stations."

Ted checked his status board on the fighters.

"Sir, we have twelve fighters ready for launch in four finger formations under the command of Captain Michael Torris." Ted switched his board for weapons control and continued his report, "All laser cannons are on line, torpedoes are ready and the rail guns are armed and tracking. I wish we had more gun crews, but Amy says she can handle them."

Ted reached up and grabbed his coffee cup taking a sip of it. Setting it back down in its holder, he started typing commands in for the automatic firing of the rail guns.

Ken sighed and answered Ted, "I agree with you Commander, we need more crew and I was hoping we would have had time to recruit them, but it looks like we have to go with what we've got. Launch the fighters. They are our ace in the hole. They are to stay hidden in the asteroid field while we engage the Crytherians."

Ken watched the screen as the ship moved into the asteroid field, the rocks were tumbling along and were hitting the shields.

"As they used to say in the old submarine movies, ladies and gentlemen it's time to 'run silent, run deep'. So shut us down, and I mean everything but station keeping thrusters and tractors beams to keep the asteroid rocks from hitting us."

Turning to Tammy and his sister, he said to them, "Tammy, take Jen with you, and go to Command Two. I want you both up and running, in case something happens to us up here on the main bridge."

Across the command deck, Tammy and Jenny looked up as Ken addressed them, "Aye, Captain," they stood up and headed out the door.

On the screen, the fighters dropped from one of the stern landing bays, and headed for one of the largest asteroids. They landed on the slowly tumbling rock and prayed that another asteroid would not hit them.

Captain Michael Torris, late of the United States Navy, walked up to the podium and looked at the other eleven members of his unit. Six family members, and five family friends sat there and watching him.

"Ladies and Gentleman, as you all know, we have two ships heading for Terra. Their plan is to enslave more humans. Well the Marines have done their job on the enemy base, now it's our turn. We do not know what class of ships are heading towards us, but just in case, we are launching with full war loads. Now, rules of engagement are as follows: if fired upon you may return fire, but wait until I give the order, otherwise. Stick with your wingman, and no hot-dogging it."

Mike stood there and looked at each pilot, and continued, "Now, the Crytherians do not use fighters, or at least there is no record of them using them. Why, I don't know. Maybe they just think they are not worth their time. I hope that is the case, because you are all still too green. Now you all know your fighter's weaknesses and strengths, so use them to your advantage. By orders of the Captain, your fighters have been loaded with one Odin anti-matter torpedo, and three Gladiator class missile pods with thirty missiles each. Use your smaller missiles sparingly. We do not know when we will get an opportunity to rearm. If damaged, get out of the battle, wait until it is over and then land on the ship. We cannot afford to lose anyone, so pay attention! Keep your shields up, and cover your wingman. If your shields start to go down, or you take damage, fall back. It is no disgrace if you need time to reenergize. I would rather have a pilot who is over cautious, than dead. Any questions?"

"Sir? Squadron orders?" asked Lieutenant Johanna Myers of green flight.

"I will decide once we are in flight. But for now, keep your squadrons together." Michael said as he looked at the brown-haired pilot.

"Yes, Sir."

Looking at the rest of the pilots Michael said, "Now, pilots, man your fighters!"

Michael watched the pilots headed out of the ready room. His eyes settled on to his wife and he walked over to her. Taking her arm in his, he walked her out to their new destiny.

Michael and Tina Torris stood on the flight deck and hugged each other. Reaching up, Tina touched her husband's lips with her fingers.

"See you after the battle. You had better come back to me."

Mike smiled at his wife's words and cupped her face in his hands.

"I love you very much. You have blue wing, keep our kids safe and I will see you after the battle. It's my turn to cook dinner and I am going to make my chicken and ham special."

His voice trailed off as he looked into her eyes.

With a sigh he continued, "We'd better get in our birds and stop these bastards."

Giving her a quick kiss, he turned and walked over to his bright blue single seat fighter, and climbed up the ladder. Looking over as his wife climbed into hers, he swung his legs into the cockpit, and started strapping himself in. He went through his checklists.

Two Marines had been pressed into being ground crew. They ran through the hanger, pulling the ladders away from the fighters so they could launch.

Across the deck, Michael Jr. looked at his parents hugging each other as he patted his black fighter. Walking over to James Woods his wingman, he held his hand out.

"Hey, James, I wanted to wish you luck."

James looked up as he heard his name, seeing his wingman Mike Torris holding his hand out, he reached out and took it.

"Good luck to you, too. Hey, what do you say after this is over we get a couple of six packs, sit back, and watch some Star Wars?"

"Sure but nothing can beat what we are going to be doing out there. We are literally going to be fighting our own Star Wars," replied James as he laughed.

"True, but nothing beats the original three movies, and my 64 inch plasma screen with stereo surround is just waiting to be tested."

Mike Jr. looked around the great hanger and saw his dad climbing into his fighter.

"We'd better get in our birds. Don't want to upset my old man. See you out there."

Walking back to his fighter, he climbed the ladder and got into the fighter. Quickly going through the preflight, he turned on his com unit.

"Tiger Six to flight control, I am ready for lift off," Mike Jr. said.

"Roger Tiger Six. You are cleared to lift off after Tiger Four has exited the bay."

Michael Sr. looked over at his wife's fighter and then started booting up the systems on his fighter. As the engines fired up, he moved down the deck and lined up with the opening and into space.

"Flight control to Tiger One, please stand by for orders from the Captain."

"Standing by, Flight Control," Mike responded as he checked the power settings on his lasers.

"Roger Tiger One, orders from the Captain are as follows. All Tiger units are to enter the asteroid belt and land on one of the larger asteroids, where you will wait for the signal from the flag to engage. Any questions Tiger One?"

"Negative, Flight Control. Orders are understood. We will lift off and take cover on an asteroid and wait for flag's orders. Relaying orders to rest of my unit," switching frequencies so he could address the rest of the squadron, he looked once more at his wife, "This is Tiger One to all cubs, we are going into the belt and will land on one of the larger asteroids. We will sit there until the ship calls for us. Keep all systems at minimum power and be prepared to go at a moment's notice."

Michael moved the throttle to one-quarter power and dropped out the stern of the ship. After leaving the ship, he shoved his throttles to full power. He headed for what his computer said was the largest asteroid in the area. Behind him, the rest of the squadron quickly followed.

Kathy reached over and took the main engines off line, bringing them to standby mode. Then she sent commands to shut down everything else.

"Engine shut down complete, Sir. Non-life support systems are shutting down all around the ship."

The ship's thrusters kept her from drifting while tractor beams prevented any of the asteroids from hitting her as they waited.

Getting up, Ken walked over to the replicator, and ordered a cigar from the machine.

"Computer, replicate me a cigar please."

The item requested materialized, and Ken picked it up. Walking back to his chair, he sat and chewed on the end of it. Pulling the cigar out of his mouth, he looked over at Ted.

"Ted, are your Marines ready to go?"

Ted glanced at Ken and then did a double take when he saw him with the cigar,

'Ah, crap. He is nervous, but I don't blame him. So the fuck am I.'

"I have thirty-five Marines on board. The rest are back on the Crytherian base. Fighters are launched and will be setting down on one of the larger asteroids."

"Damn, just thirty-five Marines!" Ken thought for a minute and then continued, "Ok, set them up into five man squads. I want at least one armed with a plasma rifle and another with a heavy machine gun."

Ted looked up in annoyance at Ken, and replied, "I've already set them up and they are ready to go."

Ken got up and started pacing the command deck, chewing on his cigar as he thought. Walking over to Ted, he leaned down.

"Sorry, Ted, I shouldn't have done that. You know your job."

"No problem, Ken. We're all nervous. This is life or death, here."

Patting Ted's shoulder, he turned and started his pacing again. As he passed navigation, the view screen changed from the asteroids to Tammy's face as she called from the secondary bridge.

"Captain, we are in the auxiliary command and are bringing our systems online now. We are a little undermanned but with Amy's help I think we will be ok."

Ken walked over to his chair and sat down, "Very well, Commander. If anything happens to us, you are to take over and defend the system."

Then, we should get the Washington back up into space. After that, we need to recruit a crew," turning back to Amy he added, "I just thought of something. Do you have to be at the asteroid belt for your spider bots to build? And if not, is there a way we can get the spider bots there, quickly?" "Yes, we could use a shuttle and...

She stood there and watched the four friends hug each other, and talk. She moved around the room and sat in one of the chairs. She studied each one, and listened as they talked about the fall. The one she had saved, Ken, was tall and handsome. He projected an aura of possible command material. The other male, jumped right in, and took over. He showed confidence and determination, a possible recruit as a Marine. The one, who carried her sensor crystal, had a quick mind, and a sharp eye. She...

Holding up the string of trout, he grinned. "Brad, it looks like we have trout for dinner..." seeing the look on the face of his friend he stopped speaking for a second, and asked, "What's wrong?" Walking up to his...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 12 Tinas Trip and Vegas

Up north, in Reno, Tina and her two friends were in the garage. They were loading the luggage into her mother's van. Closing the back door, they stood there chatting as they waited for Tina's mom. Tina looked around the garage, and saw a towel on the dryer. Walking over, she grabbed her beach towel with Jonny Depp on it as Captain Jack. "Damn, I almost forgot this." Walking back to the van she opened the door and stuffed the towel into her bag. Kathleen said, "Yeah, you would have...

The black car pulled up to the United Nations building and came to a stop. Across the street angry protesters picketed against the war in Iraq, while in the distance came the bustling sounds of one of the most populated cities in the world, coming to life. The driver opened the door and a man got out. He was carrying a black briefcase that was chained to his wrist. He walked towards the main doors of the building. Ambassador Joshua Chandler strolled into the United Nations building, passing...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 10 A new victim and preparing to go home

Joshua sat down the street from Reno High School, and watched the kids come out of summer school. They went by on their way home, as he watched as the young sluts chat with their friends. Some even made out with their punk boyfriends, who wouldn't know what to do with them, even if they got into their pants. He sat there and remembered the last girl he'd grabbed ... Jennifer Taylor. Her long brown hair and hazel eyes were the things that stood out about her. How the fear flashed in her eyes...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 2 New Explorers

Ken played his light around the cave, and saw that it was getting tighter. They were descending into an unexplored cave system at the bottom of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Ken moved some smaller rocks out of his way, and pointed his light down the incline. The area was less than eleven inches high at his position, but it seemed to widen out a few feet farther on. Looking deeply into the darkness, and seeing no danger of loose rock, he turned his body on its side. He looked back at the...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 37 Surprises

Amy accessed the data link into the Earths internet and started searching through the records and history. Happily, she started downloading all she could find. On the chat programs, and peer to peer sites, she gathered movies, books, music and anything she thought the crew would like an then she froze as she started reading some of the historical documents. "Oh NO!" Which caused her to dive into more pages and then she froze all her downloads, and locked her system down. Flight 329 from...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 18 Ken and Jenny Recruit

Under the Arizona desert, work continued in a deep cavern. Amy sent four spider bots into one of the shuttles. She ordered them to go into the storage compartment, and to shut down. She then sent a maintenance droid onto the shuttle's passenger deck. It placed two briefcases of money into another storage compartment. Another spider bot carried in a large cooler of food, and a stack of four cases of beer, securing the requested items to the shuttle's floor. Amy was waiting for night to fall...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 24 The chase is on

Joshua drove back towards his home. His heart was beating faster than it ever had before. Pulling up to a red light, he looked down on his catch and smiled evilly. "I think I will keep you for awhile, you have been such a game to catch, but now you are mine." Reaching down, he squeezed her breast. Frustrated by her shirt, he started pulling it up. For some reason, it refused to yield to his grabbing. The light changed, and he pulled through the intersection and into a dark parking...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 25The Moon

Jenny groaned as she came to. Her jaw hurt, and her body hurt even worse. She could still feel the effects of the device he had used on her. Opening her eyes, she saw she was in a metal room lying on a bed. Groaning, she stood up. She examined the bands on her wrists and tried to remove them. Each time she dug her nails under the band she got shocked. "Damn it, that hurts." "Then I would advise you not to do it, human." Jen jumped when she heard the voice. Turning around, she saw a...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 14 Reno Bound and Danger

Ken drove the big vehicle and continued to think about finding people to get to join them. One group he was going to ask was his Dungeons and Dragons group, and the ROTC class. They were going to need military people, so he added his dad's Vietnam buddies to the list, or at least some of them. As the miles went by, everyone else fell asleep to the drone of the tires on the road. Every few minutes they passed a car going the opposite way. A few hours later, they pulled into Tonopah, Nevada...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 29 Saving a life Slavers

Ken caught the young mother before she could fall to the floor. He looked over at Molly. "Get in there and do what you can to help her." Molly looked in the window and her heart started to break at the sight of the little girl. Tubes running in and out of her, an oxygen mask over her face to help her breath. "Yes, Sir!" Molly went into the room and set her bag down on the bed. Nurse Gretchen Hilliard looked down at the little girl suffering from the cancer. Turning to get her pen,...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 16 Going to Breakfast

Maria had just sat down to her morning cup of hot coffee when the phone rang. Reaching over she picked it up. "Hello? Ted, Honey, how are you? Are you ok? Why have you not called ... oh silly me, you are calling now. Did you all have a good time? Did Tammy get any pictures? Oh, what's that? Ok, let me ask them." Getting up, she walked down the hallway, looked in the bedroom, and called to her husband, "Andy, wake up!" as she walked over to the bed. On the bed, Andy rolled over to look...

Victorias Asteroid Mining Adevnture

Victoria felt a tired confidence flow through her weary body. She gently leaned forward onto the console, feeling the nose of the ship dip down as she did so. The screen in front of her was split between the rocky pick marked ground below and the ink sky studded with more lights than anyone could ever visit in a lifetime. She dipped the nose back up, a thin sheets of sweat causing the salty drops to leave a snails trail through the dirt on her skin. Victoria silently smiled, and let the ship...

Amy appeared in the bedroom and looked down at Ken and Tammy curled up in each other's arms. "Sir? It's four am. It's time to wake up. You have four hours until the United Nations meeting," she said with a sigh. Ken opened his eyes and looked over at Amy, and replied, "Good morning, Amy, and thank you," Then he looked down on Tammy with her head pillowed on his shoulder, her other arm across his stomach holding him tightly in her arms. Ken tried to slide out but Tammy clutched him...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 8 A Day of Healing and Play

Amy stood there watching Molly heal inside the bed's force field. Several hours ago she had released Ted from medical, and sent him to his cabin to sleep. She ran a final diagnostic on her patient and shut down the force field. "Molly, it is time to wake up," she stood there as Molly's eyes fluttered open. "Hello, Molly. How are you feeling?" Molly dreamt of her mom making her breakfast, before school. She sat and ate the hot pancakes. The butter and hot syrup was dripping...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 3 The Discovery

She sat, her power at minimum, for ages. Her servants repaired the great tears in her body. They restored her passageways, her components, and her systems to pristine condition. The servants burrowed deep down into the Earth. They gathered the resources she so desperately needed. They mined the gold, titanium, platinum, iron, and 'rare earths' that would have cost far too much in precious power to have been replicated. They brought her back to life, as she slowly rebuilt herself. In the...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 22 Decisions bills and packing

The people went around and learned about the ship. They were each deciding what career choice they wanted. James Woods had decided he wanted to be a fighter pilot once he saw the sleek attack fighter sitting in one of the cradles. Code-named Tomahawk, the fighter carried a miniature rail gun in the nose cone, two lasers on each wing, and a missile bay with sixteen ship-to-ship missiles. The missiles were antimatter warheads for larger ships or 'fire and forget', for enemy fighters. James...

Around the base, the Marines gathered up the Crytherians as they surrendered. They herded them into the large underground hanger. While Jen and her squad of Marines moved through the base to the hanger bay, they passed other Marines gathering up papers, computers and any other intel that they could find. Walking out into the bay, she saw one of their shuttles, where Marines were herding four Crytherians into the bay and put them into chains. Walking up the shuttle ramp, Jen saw Lynn standing...

Jen finished her writing, stood, and stretched. Taking her bottle of water, she walked out the door. After locking the door, she walked down the driveway to the mailbox and checked the mail. She turned to start walking back up the road with the rest of the mail when she saw a brown car slowly pass by the driveway's entrance. Looking up, she looked into a face she would not...

Ted sat there looking at the woman who had just given him a blowjob. His eyes kept wandering to her scantly clad body as she crawled up his body kissing his bare flesh as she went which caused him to moan. "You are so handsome looking! I just had to come and thank you personally for saving me and my Angel," Augusta said as she licked his nipples. She straddled his waist, and raised her green eyes to look into Ted's brown ones that were wide, as if he was a deer caught in the lights of a...

Her dress was slightly dirty, and her knees were pressed tightly to her chest as she rocked. Walking over, he saw she was about eight years old. Kneeling beside her, he said, "Hi, I'm Ted. The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 34 The capture and repairs

Aboard the cruiser Starburst, fires raged throughout the ship. With the internal force fields on, the fires had air to burn, but with the damage to the ship, they knew if they lowered them they would lose many warriors trapped in damaged compartments. Lieutenant Vak watched as his squad of firefighters battled a fire near the number one magazine. With temperatures reaching up to the eighteen hundred degree mark, support beams were becoming weakened and the storage room was an inferno. The...
