Ken walked down the passageway towards the medical bay. Stopping at the door, he paused to gather his courage for what he was about to do. Then he walked into the room. The noise of the wounded assaulted him. The mangled bodies frightened him. He felt all this was his fault. Looking around the room, he saw Molly and her mother rushing around getting the wounded up on to the medical beds for the healing they needed. Gretchen helped by stopping the bleeding with pressure bandages. Tina walked around the room offering the wounded bottles of water. As he stood there, he was shoved to the side as the doors opened and two crewmembers rushed in carrying a woman on an anti-grav stretcher.

The gunnery officer looked up and realized he had just shoved the captain out of the way.

"Sorry, Sir, I didn't see you there."

Lifting the girl off of the stretcher, they set her on one of the medical beds.

Ken walked over and looked down at the dark haired girl. She was unconscious and nanobandages covered her face and chest, while her left arm and leg were in splints. Her right leg was missing from the knee down. There was a nanocuff on it, to keep her from bleeding to death.

"What happened to her?"

"Sir, her gun turret was flattened. We had to literally rip it apart, to get her out. Somehow the force shield stayed up, and she didn't loose any air, but she is badly hurt," replied the young man as he looked at the Captain. He reached over and tenderly brushed the hair out of her eyes as they flickered open and she moaned in pain, then he leaned down and gave her a kiss.

"Get better, my love."

Ken watched the heart-felt moment, looked over, and saw Molly watching him. Nodding his head towards her office, she nodded hers in return, and started walking that way.

"Lieutenant, I hope she recovers swiftly."

Looking up at the Captain, Lieutenant Bill Carlos replied. "Thank you, Sir and although my name is Bill Carlos, people call me Bull. She is my fiancée Karina Williams. We had planned on getting married in a few weeks, and were hoping you would say the words over us."

"I am not a pastor or preacher," Ken said in surprise.

"You are the captain of a ship underway. By Federation law, that gives you the authority."

"Oh! I didn't know that. Then it will be my privilege. I will leave you with her, and I pray she gets better. Now if you don't mind I need to go talk to the doctor, so I will leave you two alone."

"Thank you, Sir, and good luck," replied Bull as he took Karina's left hand in his.

"You're welcome, Bull."

Turning, Ken started walking towards the office, suddenly he saw someone watching him out of the corner of his right eye. Turning his head, he saw a blank computer screen.

'Weird! I could have sworn someone was looking at me. Must have been a reflection from the lights in here.'

Shrugging his shoulders, he walked in the room where Molly was just sitting down.

"Hi, Molly. How bad is it?"

Molly looked up at Ken, glanced at her computer screen, and sighed, "Bad, Captain. We have sixteen dead, seventy-seven wounded and six still missing. Most of them I recruited." Molly said with tears running down her face.

Ken shook his head as he walked over and pulled her to her feet and said, as he took her in his arms. "Seven are missing."

Molly looked up at Ken and then back at the computer pad in her hand, "No, I have six missing." Releasing Ken, Molly sat on the edge of her desk while Ken sat in one of the chairs.

Ken sighed and continued, "Amy is missing, too. I think we took a hit somewhere that was vital to her. I have repair crews working on it. We were on the bridge and all of a sudden she disappeared and the ship's intercom screamed as if she was in pain." With a sigh, he looked into Molly's face and said, "The real reason I came down here, is that I have some bad news for you." Ken choked a little and continued, "Molly, your nephew James was killed when his escape capsule was damaged by the Crytherian's fire. We don't think it was deliberate, the..." Ken got up and moved over to Molly taking her in his arms as she cried out in pain.

Molly started slamming her fist onto her desk, "No! ... Oh, God! ... No! First Mathew, and now James, I don't know if I can take it anymore." Molly cried out as tears started running down her face. Then Ken was there, pulling her up to her feet. Molly leaned into Ken and suddenly started hitting his shoulder as he held her.

"Its ok, Molly, we are here for you." Ken continued to comfort her as he saw movement out the corner of his eye again. Looking, he saw nothing. As he stood there, holding her, the door opened and Molly's mom was standing there. Waving her in with his hand, he guided Molly into her mother's arms to let her cry and be comforted by her mother.

Kathleen walked towards the office, looking for her daughter. She stopped at the CMO's office door. She started to open it, and heard Molly cry out. Quickly she opened the door and she saw Molly crying on Ken's shoulder. Ken waved her in and she stepped into the office and took her daughter into her arms.

"What's going on Ken?"

Ken sighed and told Kathleen the bad news, "Kathleen, I had to tell Molly that your grandson is dead." Wrapping both of them into his arms, he apologized for losing him.

"Kathleen, I tried to get the Crytherians to surrender without them killing anyone, but they wouldn't listen."

Ken felt the tears run down his face and drip into Molly's hair.

Kathleen reached her hand up and grabbed Ken's ear. "Now listen here, young man, yes my grandson is dead. Did you kill him? No! James died defending this ship and the Earth! And that is how we will remember him. Any other way and it cheapens his loss. We will mourn him, as I will mourn all the rest we have lost. However, we must go on and we must be victorious or we all die. I watched the footage of the T'Lari and I saw what the Crytherians did to those prisoners. They are evil and we must overcome them. Just like the world did against Hitler and his maniacs. Do you understand me, Ken?"

Ken looked at Kathleen in surprise and shock. Clearing his throat, he responded, "I am sorry Kathleen, I will do better, I promise."

Patting his cheek she continued, "Good, now get out of here and go back to work. Let me deal with my daughter. Later tonight, Jenny and you will have dinner with us and we will talk. I will make ... What the hell?"

Kathleen looked over at the in the corner of the room and saw an image of ghostly figure covered in blood. A huge knife was clutched in her left hand. Her right forefinger was pointed at Kathleen. Looking up into the face, she saw a snarl of evil and then it quickly faded away as it slid the knife across its own throat. Kathleen shuddered from the image and looked back at her daughter.

Ken turned and looked where Kathleen was looking but saw nothing there.

"What was it, Kathleen?"

Shaking her head, she said. "It was like a ghost, it was female. She was covered in blood, and had a knife that looked like a small sword. She slit her own throat with it." Looking at Ken, she continued, "Ken, she looked so evil! It was frightening!"

Ken looked back at the corner of the room, but did not see anything.

"I will have the holographic projectors checked out, as soon as we can get the time for them." Looking back at Kathleen, he continued, "The priority now, is the repairs. Now I need to get up to the bridge, and take charge of the situation. Get me a status report on the wounded as soon as you can."

Giving both women another hug, he headed out of medical and back towards the transport tubes.

Stepping in he said to the computer, "Bridge," and as he turned around, he saw a ghostly figure with a knife raised in her arm. Before he can say anything, she slammed it down into his chest.

At the same time, he heard in his mind, 'Die you fucking bastard!'

Jumping back, he slammed into the back of the tube as the image faded and slid through the floor. He felt a cold wave descend into his body, as he looked at the ghostly knife in his chest. He watched it slowly fade away. Ken slid his fingers up to where the knife once was, and felt for a wound, finding none. The transport tube came to a stop, and the doors opened. He saw his sister standing there waiting to board the tube.

Jenny stood there looking at her work pad and as the doors opened for the tube. She started to walk onto the transport tube, and looked up to see her brother sitting against the wall. His hand was pressed to his chest and his face was a pasty white.

"Ken, are you ok? You're white as a ghost."

Ken sat there looking at his sister, not hearing her at first, as his fingers pressed to his chest.

"Jen I ... I don't know. I think I was just attacked by a ghost."

Jen looked at her brother in surprise.

"A ghost? Come on, Ken, you know there is no such thing as ghosts."

Ken looked down at his chest and said, "Well you could have fooled me. I can still feel the knife that she stabbed me with, it made my whole body feel like it was freezing."

Straightening up with a shiver, he asked, "So what are you working on?"

Jenny glanced at the electronic tablet and said, "Damage reports, we took a lot of damage on the portside. I am trying to find out why the shields failed. They shouldn't have failed. They were only hit with four nukes. If I didn't know better I would swear it was sabotage, but who would do that?"

She stood there and watched the four friends hug each other, and talk. She moved around the room and sat in one of the chairs. She studied each one, and listened as they talked about the fall. The one she had saved, Ken, was tall and handsome. He projected an aura of possible command material. The other male, jumped right in, and took over. He showed confidence and determination, a possible recruit as a Marine. The one, who carried her sensor crystal, had a quick mind, and a sharp eye. She...

Ken stood on the flag bridge of the Washington, and looked at the holomap. The Oregon was five hundred miles to his portside. The destroyers Bulldog, Boxer and Doberman were in an arrow formation directly ahead of the two battleships. Behind the flagship, the remaining ships of the fleet stretched out to their individual time drops. The last ones were the hospital ships, while directly behind him were the assault cruisers. Worried about what was going to happen, Ken chewed on his cigar. So...

"I think I will keep you for awhile, you have been such a game to catch, but now you are mine." Reaching down, he squeezed her breast. Frustrated by her shirt, he started pulling it up. For some reason, it refused to yield to his grabbing. The light changed, and he pulled through the intersection and into a dark parking...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 25The Moon

Jenny groaned as she came to. Her jaw hurt, and her body hurt even worse. She could still feel the effects of the device he had used on her. Opening her eyes, she saw she was in a metal room lying on a bed. Groaning, she stood up. She examined the bands on her wrists and tried to remove them. Each time she dug her nails under the band she got shocked. "Damn it, that hurts." "Then I would advise you not to do it, human." Jen jumped when she heard the voice. Turning around, she saw a...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 14 Reno Bound and Danger

Ken drove the big vehicle and continued to think about finding people to get to join them. One group he was going to ask was his Dungeons and Dragons group, and the ROTC class. They were going to need military people, so he added his dad's Vietnam buddies to the list, or at least some of them. As the miles went by, everyone else fell asleep to the drone of the tires on the road. Every few minutes they passed a car going the opposite way. A few hours later, they pulled into Tonopah, Nevada...

Molly went into the room and set her bag down on the bed. Nurse Gretchen Hilliard looked down at the little girl suffering from the cancer. Turning to get her pen,...

Maria had just sat down to her morning cup of hot coffee when the phone rang. Reaching over she picked it up. "Hello? Ted, Honey, how are you? Are you ok? Why have you not called ... oh silly me, you are calling now. Did you all have a good time? Did Tammy get any pictures? Oh, what's that? Ok, let me ask them." Getting up, she walked down the hallway, looked in the bedroom, and called to her husband, "Andy, wake up!" as she walked over to the bed. On the bed, Andy rolled over to look...

Amy appeared in the bedroom and looked down at Ken and Tammy curled up in each other's arms. "Sir? It's four am. It's time to wake up. You have four hours until the United Nations meeting," she said with a sigh. Ken opened his eyes and looked over at Amy, and replied, "Good morning, Amy, and thank you," Then he looked down on Tammy with her head pillowed on his shoulder, her other arm across his stomach holding him tightly in her arms. Ken tried to slide out but Tammy clutched him...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 8 A Day of Healing and Play

Amy stood there watching Molly heal inside the bed's force field. Several hours ago she had released Ted from medical, and sent him to his cabin to sleep. She ran a final diagnostic on her patient and shut down the force field. "Molly, it is time to wake up," she stood there as Molly's eyes fluttered open. "Hello, Molly. How are you feeling?" Molly dreamt of her mom making her breakfast, before school. She sat and ate the hot pancakes. The butter and hot syrup was dripping...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 3 The Discovery

She sat, her power at minimum, for ages. Her servants repaired the great tears in her body. They restored her passageways, her components, and her systems to pristine condition. The servants burrowed deep down into the Earth. They gathered the resources she so desperately needed. They mined the gold, titanium, platinum, iron, and 'rare earths' that would have cost far too much in precious power to have been replicated. They brought her back to life, as she slowly rebuilt herself. In the...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 22 Decisions bills and packing

The people went around and learned about the ship. They were each deciding what career choice they wanted. James Woods had decided he wanted to be a fighter pilot once he saw the sleek attack fighter sitting in one of the cradles. Code-named Tomahawk, the fighter carried a miniature rail gun in the nose cone, two lasers on each wing, and a missile bay with sixteen ship-to-ship missiles. The missiles were antimatter warheads for larger ships or 'fire and forget', for enemy fighters. James...

Around the base, the Marines gathered up the Crytherians as they surrendered. They herded them into the large underground hanger. While Jen and her squad of Marines moved through the base to the hanger bay, they passed other Marines gathering up papers, computers and any other intel that they could find. Walking out into the bay, she saw one of their shuttles, where Marines were herding four Crytherians into the bay and put them into chains. Walking up the shuttle ramp, Jen saw Lynn standing...

The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 19 Medical Emergency

Jen finished her writing, stood, and stretched. Taking her bottle of water, she walked out the door. After locking the door, she walked down the driveway to the mailbox and checked the mail. She stood there flipping through the mail. Seeing a letter from her pen pal in England, she stuck it into her pocket. She turned to start walking back up the road with the rest of the mail when she saw a brown car slowly pass by the driveway's entrance. Looking up, she looked into a face she would not...

Ted sat there looking at the woman who had just given him a blowjob. His eyes kept wandering to her scantly clad body as she crawled up his body kissing his bare flesh as she went which caused him to moan. "You are so handsome looking! I just had to come and thank you personally for saving me and my Angel," Augusta said as she licked his nipples. She straddled his waist, and raised her green eyes to look into Ted's brown ones that were wide, as if he was a deer caught in the lights of a...

Ted walked down the hallway, passing people who were being guided out of the medical bays, and were being lead back down to the shuttles. Passing a side passageway, he started to head into medical when he heard the crying. Turning around, he saw a brown haired girl sitting against the wall. Her dress was slightly dirty, and her knees were pressed tightly to her chest as she rocked. Walking over, he saw she was about eight years old. Kneeling beside her, he said, "Hi, I'm Ted. Lieutenant Vak watched as his squad of firefighters battled a fire near the number one magazine. With temperatures reaching up to the eighteen hundred degree mark, support beams were becoming weakened and the storage room was an inferno. The...

Lisa slowly woke up and opened her eyes. As she moved her eyes, they settled on her sister's face. In a scratchy voice, she said, "Hi, Sis. Can I have a drink of water? I'm really thirsty." Tammy brushed the hair out of Lisa's eyes. "Hey, Sis! Yes, you may have a drink. How are you feeling?" Reaching over to the bedside table, she lifted a glass of water with a straw in it to her sister's lips. "Take your time drinking. Well, we now know what was wrong with you, and it will...

Jenny hung from the wall. The pain had finally stopped and she looked around the room. Her eyes slowly focused on the only things in the room, a spider bot hanging on the far wall above the replicator and the camera in the center of the room pointed at her. Suddenly the pain started up again, and she started screaming until her voice was hoarse, and she lost control of her bladder and soiled herself. The pain stopped for a second and she started gasping for a breath. She screamed into the...

Jenny tossed and turned in her bed as she slept. She twisted and wrapped herself up in the sheets. The dream came once again to her. It had come often, since she had found out that she was supposed to die. She watched her dream self walk down the stairs of her home, dressed as a clown. Walking up to her parents, she gave them a kiss and a hug. A sad smile was painted upon her face, and she gave a small sigh for her brother. Her mother took her face in her hands. She looked deeply in her...

Setting his wife down on the couch, Mike staggered back up the stairs and over to one of the windows. He looked out. What he saw, appalled him. Black smoke billowed up into the sky all around them, while people staggered out of their shattered homes. Mike took one more look around, and limped down to the bathroom, where he pulled the first aid kit out from under the sink, and carried the kit back downstairs. Setting the box down by his wife, he looked over at his gun safe. Going over to his...

Ted jerked away. "Yeah, Ken? What you need?" Looking around he saw buildings and civilization. With a yawn, he asked, "Where are we?" The Destroyers Book 1 A New BeginningChapter 23 To catch a Killer

The next week went by quickly. The shuttle made nightly flights to the ship, depositing the belongings into the prepared quarters, or into a storage container in the hold. On Friday night, the gang finally arrived at the house. A cargo/lifter shuttle arrived, and all five of the kid's cars were loaded up, along with the U-haul carrying their belongings. Amy took the new crewmembers into medical and began their training until Molly could return. Molly had returned to Las Vegas to look for a...
