Although Reddit.com/JOBuds had reactivated commenting on threads during this review, it is still impossible for new members to join the subreddit! The subreddit was supposed to be in restricted mode for only a week, but as of this review, it has been two months, and the sub still has not been placed out of restricted mode. The reason for putting the subreddit into restricted mode was because the moderator stated he has some personal issues to deal with in his life and needs to take the time not only to find but train moderators to take his place.
As you can imagine, the diehard members of the subreddit are not very happy. While members at first surprisingly showed understanding and compassion for the original mod’s situation, it turned into disappointment and impatience. Who can blame them when there hasn’t been any word on when restricted mode will be disabled? It was supposed only to last a week, but two months in and no word on when the restriction will be lifted is, unfortunately, causing a lot of people to jump ship to other subreddits.
While trying to find any updates behind the restriction, I noticed other members posting links to alternative subreddits to Reddit.com/JOBuds. The sub is in a very dangerous position at the moment, as it is on the verge of becoming abandoned. The moderator needs to either lead once again, find another moderator(s) to fill their shoes or close it altogether.
Nearly 260,000 people
Despite the uncertain future of Reddit.com/r/JOBuds (that uncertainty may have changed by the time you read this), that does not change the number on the subreddit impressive. There are approximately 259,000 members. I noticed about 400 members online at a given moment, though that number would sometimes fluctuate between 350 and 420. Despite the restriction, there are still plenty of active members here – more so than other NSFW subs that are open to the public. Thus, that tells you everything you need to fucking know about this subreddit: it’s active, it’s engaging, and people want to use it more than ever!
One of the ways that the subreddit is actually circumventing being restricted and lacking a moderator is via a robot mod. Once a week, the robot mod posts a, ‘Weekly Meetup/Chat/Selfie Thread,’ that allows the members of Reddit.com/r/JOBuds to reach out to one another, chat, and ultimately meet up and jerk off with one another regularly. This can be offline, though the emphasis is usually on an online jerk off bud.
If you read the rules before jumping into this thread, you probably realize that the nature of the thread goes against the rules. That’s by design. Although users cannot submit posts asking dudes to jerk off with them, the dedicated weekly thread exists to make these connections. It’s ultimately a smart move. As you can probably guess, when you get a bunch of horny fuckers together on a subreddit called Reddit.com/r/JOBuds, the first thing they want to do is find a dude to jerk off with. During this review, ThePornDude found that content is sporadic at best. When sorting by new (more on these sorting options later), it was found that content was posted only five times in two days. Nothing was posted for another five days: during that day, four posts were submitted. Digging deeper, around 4-6 posts were submitted daily for the next 10 days, so in that regard, there was still some consistency.
Still, the amount of content posted here is a far cry from how active the sub used to be! Sorting by new and browsing through the sub before the restriction, it’s insane how much content was flowing in here. It was difficult to keep up at times, and it was fucking active beyond belief. Fortunately for the members, there are enough of them that the content is still being posted, and there are still enough people active to make up for the closure, but it’s still a huge shame for the community. If Reddit.com/JOBuds wants to ensure that the subreddit continues being active and healthy for the foreseeable future, they need to open it back up and add moderators into the mix if that’s indeed what is required.
Sorting options like other subreddits
What is amazing about this subreddit and other subs like it is that once you figure out how to sort content, you can figure out how to use the rest of Reddit. And if you already know how to use Reddit, guess what? You can fucking sort and browse this sub with goddamn ease!
But for those that don’t know what the fuck they are doing, look at the top of the page and notice the tabs labeled hot, new, top, and rising. Sorting by hot will show you the most engaging content of the moment while sorting by rising shows you which content is currently receiving a lot of engagement and will thus probably be in hot before too long. For those that want to dive into conversations before they get active, this is a good option to sort by.
Further, you can sort by new which obviously shows you which content is the newest of the new.
