Is This the Steam of Online Casinos?
Along Bet made an interesting first impression when I pulled up their front page. Maybe it’s the sliding images of pretty girls dressed in Santa costumes at the top of the screen, the Asian chick smiling beside a roulette wheel, or maybe it’s the site’s logo that immediately gave the place a certain festive, gamer-oriented vibe. The little icon beside the site’s name looks like a cross between a fidget spinner and the Steam logo, which is kind of fitting when you think about it. Online casinos tap into some of the same risk-and-reward centers of the brain as the tweaky toys and the games on Steam, though the stakes are a bit higher around here.
The site does look a little bit cluttered, at least from out front, but the site’s new enough that I’ll cut them a little slack on the presentation. It sometimes takes a bit of time to iron out all the kinks, and I say that from experience. The really important thing, though, is the site’s potential for fun and the potential for payouts.
I went ahead and signed up for an AlongBet.com account, which only took about a minute. They’ll ask for your phone number in the first step and your email address a little later. They added a couple credits to my account just for signing up, even before I’d deposited any real money. That’s only the first taste, because new players can get a welcome bonus up to 58,888 pesos. This is subject to the usual terms and conditions you’ll find on these sites, which means you’ll have to play with that money a bit before you can cash out.
There are a few other promos listed out front, but I always recommend looking at any casino’s Promotions page. Along Bet offers a nice batch of bonuses to entice players and keep them interested. The current spread includes a fat daily Christmas Reward, a 2% unlimited rebate if you’re using PayMaya, free daily credits, VIP rewards and a handful of other perks. The rewards are looking plentiful, and I haven’t even started playing yet!
Take It to the Bank
I ran into a funny issue as I was getting my account set up, and I think it’s just another one of those new site quirks that’ll be sorted out soon. When I went to deposit funds, the only available option was GCash. That’s particularly weird when they’re running a promo for users who fund their wallets with PayMaya, which ain’t even listed on the Deposits page.
The FAQ also talks about depositing via local banks. If you want to go that route, you’ll have to hit up customer service to get AlongBet’s bank account numbers. It’s a mild pain in the ass, but should make for easier transactions in the future. The overall lack of banking options is probably going to lose them a few players, so I imagine they’re working on the issue right now and will roll out some new methods soon. This is Business 101: your customers need to be able to pay you.
It's worth noting that AlongBet.com probably ain’t the kind of site you’ll want to play on if you’re living outside of Asia. They don’t seem to restrict access from other parts of the world, so there’s no VPN required to connect, but the withdrawal conditions are going to be a dealbreaker for any foreign gamblers looking to get in on the game. Withdrawal to local banks requires a copy of your ID card and a couple other credentials, plus a 3-day waiting period.
No Sluts, But Slots Galore
Once I’d gotten my Along Bet account funded, it was time to play some games. Some of the easiest games to start with are the massive selection of slots and fishing games. They’ve got games from a bunch of the major and respected providers, like AE Gaming, FA Chai, KA Gaming and PG. If any of them seem familiar, it's because pretty much every reputable online casino offers games from the same handful of companies. Let’s Place Some Along Bets
I didn’t check out Along Bet until a couple days after the World Cup ended, so I didn’t get to put any money down on Argentina. Fortunately, the site gives users the opportunity to bet on damn near any sport or e-sport out there. Again, they’re working with major providers like AE Plus and TFGaming, so you’re not just throwing your money down a deep, dark hole and hoping for the best.
I don’t really like how the sportsbook section is divided up by provider, which puts an extra step between you and the bets you want to place. Ideally, they’ll build a similar sportsbook interface to the ones you find elsewhere, where you see all the games and relevant stats right out front. Ultimately, though, I don’t think it’s going to be a dealbreaker for many gamblers, especially if you already know who you’re rooting for and who you’re betting against.
I feel like AlongBet.com still has a little bit of work to do as far as the presentation is concerned, but they offer a decent selection of games and some even better bonuses. The welcome bonus, in particular, is sure to draw gamblers over from their other favorite platforms, while the range of other promos will help keep them there. Ultimately, what any online casino really needs to survive and thrive is an adult playground that keeps us entertained, with enough payouts to keep us satisfied. It’s a little early to put this one at the very top of my list, but the potential is certainly there.
