I looked up from my textbook and looked around the classroom. Almost half the students in the classroom were asleep and the teacher was too absorbed in her book to care. It was the last class of the day and she had given us the last part of the period to study. I laid my head down on my desk and let myself start to drift off. I was nearly asleep when I felt a sharp wrap across my knuckles.
"Ms. Agosto, my class room is not a place for sleeping and I expect to see you back here after school for detention." Said the teacher standing over me. Smack! A pencil hit her in the back, and the whole class broke out laughing. She whipped around and the room instantly fell silent. "Which one of you threw that, tell me or I’ll have the whole class in detention for a week!" she said in a very calm quiet voice. A girl near the back raised her hand, smirking a bit. "You Ms. Cascade, just because you’re new doesn’t mean you can get away with breaking the rules, detention for you also!" I frowned a bit at this; it wasn’t her who had thrown the pencil. It was the boy next to her.
I was pondering why she had raised her hand; did she actually want detention? I noticed that she was staring at me with a dreamy almost lustful gaze. I shuddered a bit and looked away from her. I tried to ignore the feelings of excitement and lust that I felt. I had been brought up my whole life thinking that homosexual feelings were wrong. I had always tried to repress them. But my heart was pounding in my throat and I felt like I had a fire down in my stomach.
I had secretly had a crush on her ever since I had first seen her earlier this week. She had long brown hair and brilliant green eyes. She looked like a goddess. She always wore black and was a total Goth. I was a skater, with baggy clothes. I had spent hours during the last few days daydreaming about her.
The bell rang and got up a grabbed my books and slowly walked out of the class. As I was walking out of the classroom she brushed past me I stumbled a bit. Totally unnerved by the closeness. I saw her look back at me, just a glance, and then she hurried away. I got to my locker still remembering how she smelled.
"Fuck!" I said to myself. I had forgotten that I had planned to go to a concert after school. It was my favorite band and that bitch just had to give me detention. Much less how the hell was I going to get home? My parents were gone for the week and my friend who I was going to the concert with was also my ride home. It would be a long walk. I threw my books into my locker savagely. I spun around and nearly trampled over her, I paused.
Her face was only about four inches from mine; her lips were full and soft. The smell that lingered around her, was enough to make me heady. I stumbled back against my locker. I had the urge to run, and would have if she hadn’t been so close. My heart was pounding so loudly in my chest that I was sure she could hear it.
"Hi, um, do you mind if I could borrow your math book for detention." she said in a beautiful almost innocent voice. All I could do was nod; I turned around and reached into my locker to grab my math book. I had a small mirror in the back of my locker. I had been ambushed and locked in my locker one too many times. I saw her reflection in the mirror she was watching my ass. I involuntarily shuddered and turned around quickly. I handed her my math book. When she grabbed it, she placed her hands on top of mine.
I froze and felt like I was drowning in those beautiful eyes. Then we both went red and she quickly took her hands away. "Sorry" she mumbled, looking just as embarrassed as I felt.
"Good your both here" said the teacher sticking her head out of the classroom "well come on the sooner you’re in here the sooner you’ll be down with detention." we both hurried into the class room, sat down, and started doing our homework. After a few minutes the teacher left the room to go make copies. She told us that if we weren’t here when she got back she would have us suspended.
While we worked I become increasingly aware of her sitting next to me. Her leg resting against mine. I glanced up to see her watching me. She smiled and went back to work. We could hear the teacher cursing at the copying machine we smiled in silent laughter. The copying machine had been broken for weeks but none of the janitors ever bothered to fix it. It took me a moment to realize that I had stopped working and was staring at her. I mentally hit myself and focused on my work.
"I suppose you two can go" I heard the teacher say. I got up and looked at my watch. It was six oh clock, my parents were gonna kill me. I was supposed to be home an hour ago. I hurriedly stuffed my books into my bag and dashed out of the room. I had promised to baby sit a neighbor’s child. They were going to a good friend’s wedding and I had promised them that I would take care of him. They were going to drop him off at 6:15 and it would take me a half-hour at least to get home even at a run.
I ran down the sidewalk in a hopeless attempt to do the impossible and get home in time. I heard a car honking and I saw a new looking SUV pull up beside me. The passenger window rolled down and I saw the girl from detention wave to me.
"Hey, you need a lift?" she asked my prayers were answered. I got in and threw my stuff into the back.
"Thank you" I gasped.
"Sure, no problem, just tell me were you need to go" she said with a small smile
"I promised my neighbors I’d watch their son for them, and they’re dropping him off at my house in 15 minutes." I said and gave her directions to my house. We pulled up right as they were pulling out. I got out and ran over to the car. I apologized, and it took them a few minutes to gather from my tirade at the teacher what had happened. They knew me, and were happy to let me take care of him still. Once they’d gotten him out of his car seat and over to me they left.
I looked up when the girl, her name I finally remembered was Kristie, honked the horn. "Hey, see you at school tomorrow." She yelled and started to pull out of the driveway.
"Wait!" I yelled, I told the jimmy, the neighbor’s son to go inside and wait for me. I ran over to Kristie’s SUV. "Do you, uh, want to come in for a second" I said with what little courage I could muster. I felt myself blushing bright red, but I doubted I was blushing as much as she was.
"Sure" she said and parked the SUV. "But what about the kid?"
"Oh, he’s no trouble at all, I bet he’s already glued to my TV. His parents don’t let him have TV, poor kid." I said as she got out and we hurried into the house. As she walked in front of me I couldn’t help but stare at her as. "nice ass" I muttered.
"What was that?" she said
"Oh, nothing" I replied.
We went into the house, and sure enough jimmy was already sitting on the floor in front of the TV. I led her over to the couch and we sat down to do our homework together. I looked up when the TV volume suddenly went up much louder than it should. Jimmy had fallen asleep on the TV remote. I jumped up and turned the TV off. Then I picked jimmy up and quietly carried him into the extra bedroom. I laid him down in the bed and stood there for a while watching him sleep. Just watching him made me wish I had kids of my own.
