I heard my sister groan. ‘Jennifer, you have to get up right now! Get dressed and come outside.’
‘Outside? For what?’
‘Because I am outside in your driveway. I have come to take you to the beach.’

We drove in silence the rest of the way. I had reclined the seat back, and I pretended to sleep.

The waitress threw four menus on the table and walked off. ‘Geesh. Somebody obviously got up on the wrong side of the bed.’ I felt Maddy kick my shin under the table for the nasty comment.
I decided to keep my thoughts to myself for fear of getting another kick to the shin. I stared at my menu. What a selection! It was basically a sandwich and soup, hamburger and fries, or pizza and chips.
When the waitress came back over, all four of us ordered hamburgers and fries. Brad ordered a pitcher of beer for us all to share.
We chatted while we waited for our food to arrive. I found out the guys were both twenty one years old, they were in college, but currently on a long weekend break at Brad’s family beach house.
Maddy’s eyes danced when she realized Brad had to be the coolest guy ever. He was young, in college, and obviously rich. She smiled at me from across the table. I couldn’t help but smile back.
Our food finally came and we ate, chatted, and drank our beer. I didn’t mean to drink so much beer. Every time I would drink some out of my glass, someone would fill it back up to the top.
This went on the whole time we were in the restaurant, and I started to get pleasantly drunk. We finished our food, and Brad went up to the counter to pay for us.
John got out of the booth and literally had to catch me when I stumbled out of the booth. ‘I’m so sorry. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.’ I could tell my speech was slurry.
Maddy giggled. ‘Are you drunk, Jennifer?’ I was confused. ‘I don’t know. I only had one glass of beer.’ Even though that one glass of beer never seemed to empty!
John grabbed my elbow and helped me out of the restaurant. The smell of the ocean and the wonderful breeze helped to lift my mood. I hugged John tight to my body. ‘Thank you for taking me here. I am so glad to be on vacation with you.’
Maddy laughed. ‘John didn’t bring you here. I did.’ I pointed my finger at her. ‘You bitched slapped me. So, I am still not talking to you.’
