Julia hesitated, debating about whether to tell Ben about the rumors. While she didn’t want to upset him, she thought it was better for him to know. As she gave a condensed version of her conversation with Marilynn, the smile faded from Ben’s face. By the time she finished he was sitting perfectly still, staring blankly at the floor.
