My goal right now is to finish all the things possible to do on day 1, as well as the ending (I want to get it out of the way first, along with all the viariables that come with it. I have the structure already plotted out, it's just a matter of filling it with writing). Anything marked WIP either doesn't lead anywhere or has no exit path.)
The life of a goblin is simple. They till soil. They build huts. They hunt. Goblins live in tight-knit communities. Almost everything is shared between the tribe, though if the odd sack of gold found its way into town it is not snubbed upon to take it for oneself; after all, who doesn't enjoy the glitter of gold as it slips between ones fingers? There were never any major problems, as goblins generally know not to cause too much trouble for others, for if they did they know that the humans would not hold back. As long as they were nothing more than an occasional nuisance, they were left alone to practice their peaceful existance.
Problem is, peace always seems to attract trouble.
It was a day like any other. It was the end of the harvest season, when the trees begin to change colour and the wind becomes crisp. Goblins worked in their primitive fields gathering for the coming winter, when out of the brush ran a woman; a human woman. She wasn't watching where she was going, for she wouldn't have ran straight into the midst of the Goblin village otherwise; she started panicking, jumping around like a terrified rabbit surrounded by dogs. She was quickly subdued, had her arms tied behind her back, and was thrown before their chief. But despite all this, it was as if she wasn't scared of the goblins; she was scared of what was chasing her.
It was shortly after when another person broke through the brush. A rider on a brilliant white steed, clad in shining armour. The figure drew their sword at the presence of the goblins, and advanced towards the village center where the chief awaited them.
"Goblins!" they bellowed, "I have no quarrel with you yet! Hand her over, and I will spare your lives!"
The chief, not wanting trouble with someone who could cause them a lot of pain, was about to hand the woman over, when the woman broke her silence, and struggled against being handed over with all her might, shouting till she was hoarse. "Please I beg you, don't hand me over! I can't go back, I cannot!"
Seeing this the chief hesitated, which the rider saw as refusal. "You dirty creatures don't know what you're doing!" The rider charged towards the woman, attempting to scoop her up without considerence of any goblins that might've been in their way. It was then when the goblins fought back. They swarmed the rider, jumping onto the horse and hitting them over and over with their weapons. The rider roared, swinging their blade to and fro. By some miracle the swings never hit home, and the rider was pushed from their saddle, their foot still in the stirrup; the horse reared in fear from the multidous goblins that were attacking it, and with a neigh of terror, charged back into the brush, the rider in tow.
"Augh! Aaaah!" The rider cursed as every bump distorted their voice.
The sound of a horses gallop and the breaking of branches, and then, deathly silence.
"They'll be back!" The woman broke the silence, stepping towards the goblin chief falling to her knees. "And they won't be alone this time! Please, you must protect me!"
The chief mulled over this. "When fates bring in trouble, it could not be avoided," she said in her old crone voice, tossing scrying stones at the ground. The other goblins gathered around close, watching. There was silence, just the chief nodding as if the stones were talking out loud, and then, after a long pause where she had closed her eyes, she considered what the stones showed her and gave her answer. "OooOoOoh, great danger after her, very close, very near. Important this woman must be protected by us. Great misfortune otherwise, not just for us, but all." She turned to the woman, a wild but sly and playful gleam in her one good eye. "Cannot let woman run either; I can read face of yours that such thought in head there is. Great misfortune that will cause too."
Much to the womans protests, she was thrown in a cage, and the cage was carried to the chief's tent.
The chief stood above all on a pile of dirt, speaking her decision to the villagers. "Work to protect village we must! Soon much fighting upon us! We must be ready!"
The goblins cheered with agreement, for the stones never lie and the chief has never steered them wrong before.
