Night falls on the Isle of Lions, some twenty miles off the shores of lake Cashmere in the Republic of Tylina.
Like most Thursday nights, the entire population of the island, minus a small set of security and maintenance crews, is partying on the island's Grand Manor. It is the opportunity for the women stationed here to unwind after almost a week's worth of actual work, which would normally be a rarity for the noble-born women.
The Isle of Lions is special. It is the home base and training locale for the Lion Brigade, a military unit comprised entirely of noble-born women. Now in its seventy-eighth year, the brigade started as a way for the nobility to show that no citizen of the Republic, not even noble women, can ignore their duty of military in service.
In practice, however, the Isle of Lions is a resort. A female-exclusive resort, but a resort. The women train and work here four days a week, and then boats and ferries pick most of them up so they can spend the weekends in luxury in the greatest cities in the Republic.
There are eighty-five women on the isle right now. Unbeknownst to most, there are also three men here, but we'll get to that later.
The entourage of Valyrie Applesmith enters the party. She is wearing a pink dress that shows off her cleavage, but none of the women at the party care about her breasts. Their attention is turned to the two dark haired women that flank her, clearly twins to anybody that would pay attention to them for more than few seconds.
"Native filth," whispers an unseen noble in passing. The twins do not respond outwardly.
Even that term was vulgar and wrong. It has been over seven-hundred years since this land was colonized, and even before that the people that lived across the land were not so different than the occupying Tylian royal family. From centuries of selective breeding, the nobility has fairer skin and lighter hair colors, while those that are regarded as "natives" have black hair and slightly darker skin. People from other kingdoms and democracies barely note a difference and consider the widespread discrimination against natives barbaric and arbitrary.
The Republic itself denies the existence of such discrimination, and claims that reforms have essentially wiped out the little discrimination that once existed.
"Reforms", as if they made a difference.
Those reforms didn't prevent the twins from spending their twenties working in a brothel against their will. Had the sisters not been labeled as natives for their tainted blood, the indignities visited upon them would have rightfully been labeled rape, but the constabulary looked the other way based on their lineage. Only after Valyrie purchased them were they freed from their daily duties of servicing dozens of men.
As the third daughter of a Baron that oversaw a far Western district, Valyrie had little chance of inheriting power or position. She mingled with commoners, and grew sympathetic to the native cause. That sympathy led her to joining Western Dawn, a fringe group with connections to the criminal underload that sought revenge for the injustices visited upon the native population, both past and present.
The Republic used euphemisms and lies to downplay the atrocities. That propagated into the occupied territories and was never to be questioned out loud. The people know, though, and Western Dawn has spent decades documenting the full treatise of crimes against the natives. These lies and brutal truths include...
1) The forced slavery of native folk for hundreds of years. Thought masked as indentured servitude, there was essentially no recourse or escape for many until slight changes to the law four centuries earlier.
2) Widespread discrimination against natives that denied economic opportunity via selective licensing processes and exclusive schools. With little legitimate opportunities, natives often have to turn to criminal activities, leading to negative perceptions of natives as inherently criminal.
3) The forced sexual slavery of native women, which continues to do this day. Prostitution is legal but regulated in the Republic, but allowing anyone other than natives to be a prostitute is a recipe for frequent visits of the police. As for the native women working the brothels, there is virtually no legal protection. Even when a native woman is clearly bound, gagged, and crying, there are virtually no police forces in the country that would investigate it as potential sex trafficking. Thus native women are bought and sold as objects.
Shortly after Valyrie bought the twins, she was drafted for military service. Her parents and brother viewed it as a great opportunity, a lesser-noble's chance to mingle with those from more prestiguous families.
Valyrie and the twins have other objectives, though. Even as she becomes friends with the nobility, she plots her grand plan to kidnap and enslave as many of them as she can.
"Don't start feeling sympathy for them," reminds Jessica, one of the twins.
"Remember what they did to us," continues Jennier, the other twin. "They are the ones to blame, even if they pretend to be honorable."
"I know," responds Valyrie, with great determination.
There are fifty nobles on the island, twenty-two servants, and ten non-noble maintenance crew. All are women. The higher nobles, including a member of the royal family, have their own houses on the island, while the less nobles are bunked together in dormitories.
Those dormitories would be where Valyrie herself were forced to stay, if she weren't tasked with a more significant job. As quartermaster of the group, she had her own house adjacent to the storehouse where both arms and supplies were kept.
And in that house... is a basement. In that basement is the key to the story. It contains both a hidden underground route to a small docking bay hidden among the isles cliffs, a little makeshift dungeon with seven separate cells. In those cells, unlocked, rest three men, members of Western Dawn that will help in the defilement and kidnapping as needed. Also in that dungeon are one hundred sets of bondage, one set fit for each of the women known to the be on the island with some generic sizes to spare. Gags, cuffs, blindfolds, leather straps, and small gas tanks with masks filled with chemicals that will put the women in coma states.
Come Friday morning, all but a handful of the noble women leave the island, their personal chaperones arriving by boat to take them away if they important, and the rest leaving on a ferry. Now is the time to start planning the scheme. Between Noon Friday and the midnight end of next week's party, Valyrie, Jennifer, and Jessica, need to capture and enslave as many nobles as they can. From there, they may be sold off to brothels, raped for torture or interrogation or brainwashed to be sleeper agents.
This is the culmination of Valyrie's life. This is where she leaves her mark in destroying the nobility. When she shoots her flare, boats will arrive from off shore to take away her captives the members of the mission, and she will disappear to the deep reaches of the native lands, forever forsaking her noble titles.
