For the fiftieth time in the last ten minutes, the bus fills with the kind of shrieking and howling laughter that only teenage girls can produce. Well, I say teenage, but however immature they may be acting, their senior uniforms means that they are at least 18, as unbelievable as they are making that seem.
"She's such a trainwreck! No wonder even Ava stopped being friends with her, and she's basically a cross between a walrus and a lorry!!"
Again with the shrieking and howling. I glance around at the other passengers to make sure I'm not being overly sensitive. And sure enough, it seems that every single person on this bus has been regretting ever boarding it since the moment this gaggle of girls invaded it. The woman directly behind me keeps turning around to glare at them, but she's being completely ignored. There's a guy a few seats ahead of me who has his earphones turned up to a volume that would normally be very annoying in its own right, but in this situation it hardly even registers -- and even he seems to still be able to hear their shrieks. Indeed, everyone apart from the girls themselves seems to be suffering, but no-one is saying anything; everyone is probably waiting for someone else to finally pipe up and put them in their place.
I look back at the group, who have occupied the back bench of the bus and are completely oblivious to their surroundings. Well, almost. One of them seems to be a bit more mature than the others and is evidently not quite comfortable with the level of noise her friends are emitting. She looks slightly older than the rest -- although that might just be due to the fact that she's the only one NOT in fits of laughter from inane comments -- and has very long, straight, maroon hair and green eyes, which she keeps rolling whenever her friends shriek at a particularly unfunny joke. On the other end of the spectrum is what can only be described as the ringleader -- the loudest, dumbest, most obnoxious girl of the group, who has the body of a barely legal porn star but the facial expression of the most cliché teenaged bitch imaginable. She is covered in way too much makeup and her blonde hair is done up in some complicated way that somehow makes her seem even more unlikeable. She is responsible for about 80% of the noise coming from their group, with the rest being supplied by the other girls, who apparently don't have much to contribute to the conversation except for regular screams of laughter at their imbecile friend's jokes.
"Oh my GOD, Samantha, you're SO annoying! You're like a bad parody of a spoiled fourteen-year-old!" Finally, the quietest girl has had enough and is telling her friend off. Of course, this is immediately met by a round of "oooh"s and hisses as the other girls get ready for a catfight. However, Samantha, as the loudest of them is evidently called, just shrugs it off. "Look who's talking, Alica. I may be a parody of a fourteen-year-old but at least I'm not a 120-year-old stuck in the body of a nineteen-year-old!" And off they go again, shrieking and howling at their own jokes.
