You wake up to the sound of your buzzing alarm clock. After missing the mark a few times you eventually manage to hit the snooze button. Pulling your blankets tighter around yourself you let out a big yawn and try to fall back asleep but, before you can you hear the doorbell ring. You try to ignore it but they just keep ringing over and over again.
Pulling your pillow over your head muffles the sound some but not enough to keep you from hearing the unknown guest begin to pound on the front door. Grumbling under your breath you force yourself to sit up and open your eyes. Pulling on your robe you slowly stumble through your house still half asleep.
When you reach the front door you reach out for the knob and the pounding suddenly stops. Opening the door you are surprised and more than a little angry that the persistent knocker is no where to be seen. Cursing loudly you are about to slam the door closed when you notice a small box at your feet. Realizing that the rude wake up call must have been an over zealous delivery man you pick up the package which easily fits into the palm of your hand you slam the door closed. Heading into the kitchen you set the tiny delivery on the table and head to the fridge for some breakfast.
After having a banana and a glass of orange juice (you need to go grocery shopping) you remember about the box. Sitting down at the table you hold the box between your two index fingers looking it over curiously. It is approximately 2 inches long, 2 in. wide, and 2 in. deep forming a perfect cube. You don’t know who it is from since the brown cardboard has no type of identifying marks or writing. Now your curiosity is piqued and you lift open the flaps that make up the top of the box revealing to you a small red ball that fills the box. Laughing a bit that so trivial a thing was even worth someone sending you reach in and pull the ball out holding it in the palm of your hand.
A few seconds later you start to feel a burning sensation at the points where the ball is in contact with your skin. Panicking you fling your hand outwards to throw the ball but, it is stuck to your skin. Looking at it the ball appears to be melting and it is really starting to burn now. You hurry over to the sink and flip on the cold water but, no sooner than the water begins to flow the burning sensation stops. You quickly look down at your hand and see a small red circle slowly fading into your skin until it disappears. More than a little nervous now you aren’t sure what to do when all of the sudden you hear a voice in your head.
The voice sounds strange you can’t tell if it is male or female. It says
“You now have the power to bring fiction to life the power to meld it into reality and bend it to your will.”
‘What in the world is going on?’ you think to yourself.
“I just told you what is going on.” the voice replies.
‘I must be going crazy…or maybe that ball was some kind of drug or biological weapon that is affecting my mind’ you think frantically.
“No the ball was a conduit to help transfer the power to you.” The voice says calmly.
‘If I can make fiction into reality prove it to me.’ You think smugly.
“Only you may prove it to yourself but, if you do what I say then you will soon believe.”
