Prologue
Captain Abrams looks out at the massive rolling cloud out the window of the ready room and rubs his eyes. He's been staring at this Hemmer Nebula one way or another for six days now. One of the crewmen referred to it as the Hellfire Nebula and it stuck.
He walked out to the bridge and glanced around at his crew who were working hard not to miss a single bit of data on this phenomenon. Just as he sat in his chair the automatic alarms went off.
"Captain three incoming ships, sir." the Chief Flight Control Officer said.
"Bring them up on screen"
The screen flashes for a second but the same swirling lighting filled mass fills the view.
"Did you hear me ensign? I said bring up the ships."
"I did Captain, They are coming out of the Hellfire.
"That’s not possible." Abrams said leaning forward in his chair.
"I know but here they come sir."
The screen zooms in on three ships as they exit the storm. Abram looks down on his com pad and sees lines and lines of unknowns
"Patch, send a hail" He said to the lt. commander.
"No reply, Captain"
Then they fired
Alex Parker looked out the massive window outside of Admiral Bentley's office. He was amazed by how well the repairs to the Star Fleets Headquarters went after the Breen attack. Even the Golden Gate Bridge was fully repaired.
"He's ready to see you Commander" a young woman with an amazing smile said from behind him. "Right this way, sir"
He followed the young woman through the double doors of the admiral's office. She gave him another warm smile as she closed the doors. Behind the desk was a gentleman standing with his arms folded behind his back. Admiral Bentley adjusted his uniform then extended his hand towards the chairs in front of the oak desk. "Hello, Commander Parker, Please take a seat." Parker walks to the chair and sits.
"I assume you have heard about the destruction of the Montoya." The admiral says but continues without even waiting for an answer. "Well Parker with Star Fleet pulled so thin right now with recovery program and the separatist movement we have had to make some quick changes. I know you were ready to take command of the Zagreb upon the retirement services of Captain Blake but things have changed. We have a new enemy."
The painting 'Creation of Adam' by Michelangelo behind him changes to the view of three ships firing upon the USS Montoya. "These images are taken just outside the Hemmer Nebula. The attacking ships are of an unknown type. They ended up taking out the shielding in three hits. They boarded the ship and killed the entire crew. Hell, Parker, nothing is even supposed to be able fly in that mess let alone come out and destroy one of are science crafts. This is where it gets even odder. The ship was then abandoned and drifted into the nebula. These are images that came from inside the nebula and I'll be damn if the thing isn't hollow. Computer, zoom in on section 12D maximum magnification. Now this was the last image that we received from the Montoya before the warp core overloaded destroying the ship. As you can see object here appears to be the first stage of a wormhole opening. Well this is where you come in. We have a new ship. The Majestic B, it's the new DaVinci Class."
The image on the screen shifts to a class of ship that Parker wasn't familiar with. "This class has a brand new form of subspace shielding. It should be able to fly into that mess and find out what the hell is going on in there. I want you to take command of it Parker. I worked with your father and if you're even half the commander he was you’re the perfect man for the job. Now I'm not going to pussyfoot around this. This is going to be a hell of a challenge. You're going into an unknown territory against an unknown enemy with no back up but maybe if you play your cards right you may be returning here with Captains pips on your neck"
"Take this" the admiral hands Alex a PADD with a long list of names scrolled across the touch-sensitive glass. "This is the available members of Star Fleet that you can choose for your crew. They will have a choice if they wish to join you or not since this may be a suicide mission but I'm willing to bet you can convince them all to join you"
"Now Commander do you wish to accept this mission?"
