She HAD come armed with a degree in accounting, a CPA certification, and a folder full of letters of recommendations. They had hired her on the spot. She had the nicest personality and the best speaking voice, so she also doubled as receptionist.
She had remained the picture of a cute teenager, and had won a spot of every ones hearts. They all treated her as a "little sister." Up until Mary had decided that her dress code was too restraining. The very next morning, EVERYONE had a change of heart. Their "Little Sister" had turned into a hottie.
Dollie came to work WITHOUT a bra, and wearing a short "flirty" skirt. Eyes began popping at the first sight of her. Mary had smiled and made a comment about being full of surprises. Dolly had thought she was being scolded, and offered to go home and change clothes. Mary had clucked her tongue at her offer. "Heck, no, girl. Ya just caught me by surprise. I never even thought you were hiding so much. Now I'm wonderin' what OTHER surprises your hiding."

She could recite, often word for word, conversations that were held within earshot of her. She could also see through people like an X-ray. It turned out that she admitted her Father had been in the military, and used the motto, "The maximum range of an excuse is 0 meters." She lived by it as if he were standing beside her.
She had also proved to several men, that she was NOT a pushover. She was no prude, but she was NOT easy. You had to actually WORK for it, to get anywhere with her. She very seldom raised her voice above a conversational level, and NEVER used vile, obscene, or off-color language. She acted like she was talking to her pastor with any she spoke to.
That's why, when she took such an interest in Sharon's adventure with Tony, it was a shock to the others. Sharon had commented on it to her the next day, in private, of course.
She had explained to Sharon. "I had standards of behavior that I was expected to follow. My Dad was a well-respected man, and it was passed to us to help him earn that respect. We had to earn certain grades in school, do our very best in any sports we were into, and conduct our behavior as if we were at a formal affair, AT ALL TIMES. No matter how poorly we did, as long as we did our best, he was satisfied, and would show us in the best ways. He always, as I was the only girl, insisted that the boys came to the door, introduced themselves, showed proper courtesy, and treated me like a lady. And I was expected to be just that. A LADY!!!"

He told us EVERY day how proud of us he was. He was always there for us, even when he was away from us. I still try to live by his standards. "I'm just the same as other girls. If a man wants to ask me out, he has nothing to worry about. I will accept or decline based on how he has treated me in the past. The boys had taken care of the farm work, before and after school, and during the summer. They hadn't been well off, but they were a far sight from poor.
She had had good enough grades to get a scholarship, and that, along with a part time job had financed a college degree. She had tutored other students, and done a few other things, so she didn't have to borrow any money to pay her way, and had graduated 5th in a class of 136. This was her 2nd job after graduating. The first job had turned out to have strings attached. The manager had called her in and explained that she had other duties expected of her as well. When he started explaining those "duties", she had risen from her chair and disrobed in front of him. William, Dave, and Carl had come in and were introduced, and they moved to one of the "family" tables. Catl was even more charming than usual, and had struck up a conversation with Julia. It turned out that he had known her Father, and one of her brothers in the past, and were sharing stories about them. Carl was visibly moved when he heard about her Father being injured. The police were called and Carl told them that for HIS part, he didn't want to press charges, as long as they apologized TO ME!!! Both did, the cops thanked us and we went to my place. Remember what I said about being impressed? I WAS IMPRESSED!!! So much so that I gave Carl a shower, fixed a couple of bruises, and a black eye. THEN I GAVE HIM A NIGHT TO REMEMBER!!!
