Valkryr
The battle went well.
Olaf swung his weapon slaying another of his adversaries and readied
himself too meet another.
He felt the surge of excitement flow through his blood. He was meant for
war, it was his life and he knew it would also be his death.
He looked too his sides seeing his kinsmen in the thick of battle and he
knew that victory was near.
Suddenly the sound of battle cries brought his attention too a nearby
hill. Running down its side, axes and swords held aloft, shields held at
the ready were many warriors. They had been ambushed. He felt the
victory they had gained slipping away as the new, fresh warriors joined
his enemies side. He saw his kinsmen falling around him.
He fought on, anger and dismay driving him. An enemy met him, he held in
his hand a spear. He thrust out yet Olaf grabbed the spear end before it
pierced him and drove his axe down into the warriors shoulder leaving
him too die from the grievous wound inflicted. Blood doused his axe
handle as he grasped it once more with both hands. The spear point had
cut him yet the pain did not deter him, it drove him on. He met several
more warriors and dispatched them as easily as the first before he
realized he was the last of his kinsmen.
The enemy drew around him.
He knew now his death was inevitable.
He waited with grim determination for the end.
"ODIN" He called. "I am ready too meet you and dine in your halls."
As he called out he saw the glimpse of something white in the sky. As it
got closer he realized what it was. A Valkryr. A warrior maiden from
Asgard who served the gods and took the souls of worthy warriors to
Odins hall. She was clad in bright chainmail, her face was pale and
beautiful, her eyes large and glittered a deep blue. Her hair was of
flowing gold and upon her head she wore a helm of shining silver. In her
small perfect hands she held a spear and the reigns of her white winged
stallion on which back she rode.
The gods had heard him. He knew his destiny now. He charged into the
warriors his axe flailing. He took two down before the rest brought
there weapons into him. As he lay dying he swung his axe one more time
and heard a scream. Wait....that was not the scream of a man. It was a
woman's. He weakly turned his head too see the body of the Valkryr fall
beside him. Horror raced through him at the mistake he had performed. No
one had killed a Valkryr before. The sheer weight of his action bore
down on him as blackness overcame him and deaths sweet embrace took him
into her folds.

Olaf stood on a great bridge. It glittered with colour that astounded
the eyes. He stood upon the rainbow bridge that connected the mortals
too the gods. Yet Olaf thought of nothing else apart from the blasthemy
he had performed. Behind him the bridge stretched back to the great
sphere that had been his home, Midgard. Wrapped around it was a great
snake that glittered a bright green. Ahead lay a great land, the land of
which the gods resided, Asgard. Yet barring its way stood a great
warrior who stood seven feet high. He was broad shouldered and a wrapped
around them was a great fur cloak. In his hands he held a great sword
which could cleave several men in two.
"Will you let me pass Heimdall, or do the gods bar my entrance for the
crime that I have performed." Olaf cried.
"I do not bar your passage warrior, you can go on you way too Odins
hall. There you are too be judged before the very gods themselves." and
with that the giant stepped aside allowing the warrior on his way.
When Olaf reached the bridges end he saw before him a great hall which
lay at the foot of a great mountain. He walked up the path before it and
entered through its mighty doorway. Running along the walls of the
hallway stood many great warriors and fair maidens adn he knew he was in
the presence of the Gods. Sitting at the back on a large stone throne
was a powerful looking man who appeared to be in his fifties. Across one
eye was an eye patch. By his side sat a benign, motherly looking woman
looking. Olaf strode down until he was before them and then slowly
kneeled.
"My Lord, I kneel before you. Ready too be punished for the crime that I
committed."
Odin, (for that was the great man before which Olaf kneeled) sat and
pondered long. "It is true warrior that the striking of one of my
maidens is in itself a crime. Yet that fact that you wounded her was not
entirely your fault. A Valkryr is invulnerable to the blow of a mortal
man so long as she obeys me in all matters. Yet her heart did not obey
me. She longed for the life of a mortal woman and because of this your
blow rang true. She does not lie dead, for she was still protected
enough, yet her powers are now lost and mortal blood flows through her
veins. For I have granted her wish. Olaf, you have been a great warrior
and do not deserve to go to Hel's icy realm. Yet you shall also be
barred from sitting at my tables amongst the warriors. This places you
with no where too go. Yet perhaps I do have a vocation for you if you
choose to serve."
"I do my lord."
"Then stand Olaf and open yourself too me."
Olaf stood before his lord and god and Odin reached out his hand and let
flow his power into Olaf's very being. Olaf was surrounded by a bright
light that blinded his eyes. Slowly the light faded and he felt a
strangeness in his very being. He looked down at himself and was
astonished too the see the changes that had been made. He bore the body
of a voluptuous woman clad in shining mail. He felt long golden hair
that ran down his back. In his perfect pale hands he held a brilliant
white spear and shining silver shield.
Odin stood. "You shall now be known as Kara and shall take your place
among my nine Valkryr's replacing the one which I lost. You shall serve
me in my hall and and fetch the souls of warriors who have died in
battle. And when the time of Ragnarok is upon us you shall fight by my
side."
Olaf felt that his male pride should make him ashamed of the body he now
wore. Yet there was no male pride. In fact he....no she was now proud
too serve her lord as a Valkryr, a warrior maiden her head held high as
she walked between the gods and mortal men. Odin reached out his hand
and she grabbed it and kissed it.
"Now go Kara. Your steed awaits for a great battle has begun on Midgard.
It is time for you too take up your duties among your sisters."
She turned and and left the hall and upon coming out into the open she
saw before her mounted on their winged steeds her new sisters. A lone
winged stallion stood before them. She quickly mounted it and let it
take flight her sisters by her side and driven on by a new purpose she
flew onwards too Midgard and the new life that lay ahead.
