Kevin was walking back to his house after his football practice. Just as he was
hoping, he had secured the starter position of tight end on the team. Living
only two blocks away from the high school meant that he would only get his own
car when he went to college - if then! His parents were very nice, but hardly
well off.
This lack of car put a break on his social life, where the status of owning a
car did make life in high school a more colorful, enjoyable experience. Lots of
cute girls had the males divided into different species: The subhuman were the
dorks. The semi-human, the nerds. The untouchables, those without a sports
letter. And finally those without cars, undateable.

The coach had said to a fuming Jason who had lost his position to Kevin. "Look,
you don't want to practice or work. You think it should be yours because you
want it. That's not the way things work and the sooner you realize it the
better."
"Just drop dead! One day you'll be sorry!" said the red faced Jason who went
stomping into the locker room. The other players grinned. It served Jason right.
He was such a jerk!

When Kevin left he saw an old woman crossing the street, at a very slow pace
with a cane. The elderly woman hadn't looked at the street's coming traffic, but
was only looking down at the pavement, to make sure there are no potholes where
she would be stepping in the next few seconds.
Kevin's head turned to the left suddenly because he saw one of his teammates
leaving the school's parking lot. It was Jason the jerk, who was driving his
brand new 4x4 red SUV, with three cheerleaders laughing inside. Jason's 6 foot 2
tall frame and handsome looks, huge allowance AND flashy wheels still had most
of the girls in the cheerleading squad dying to be one of his many girlfriends.
As soon as the SUV squealed out of the school's parking lot, he made a right
turn, floored the gas and then turned his head to kiss one of the cheerleaders.
The other cheerleaders saw what was in front of them and screamed.
Jason turned his attention back toward the road and saw the old woman dead ahead
of his brand new SUV. He hit the breaks, but he and the three cheerleaders knew
it was far too late.
Out of nowhere, Kevin sprinted and managed to get to the pedestrian just in
time. He pulled the surprised woman back from the path of the speeding SUV!
Jason's SUV missed the old woman by just few inches before it came to a full
stop. Jason got out of the SUV and gave them a hard look before turning to
examine his new wheels.
"Man, get that old dirt bag out of the road, she almost caused an accident. You
hear me, Kevin? Get this old grandmother out of the road or I'll use my SUV to
push her out of the way!" Jason said and got back to his SUV. Two of the
cheerleaders got out, flipped a surprised Jason off and checked to see if the
old woman was okay. "Then walk!" shouted a red faced Jason furiously. The last
thing Kevin heard was the string Jason's laughter and the sound of the speeding
SUV, plus the awful smell of the exhaust fumes out of the powerful car.
The girls looked back at Jason and said "What a major asshole!" The turning to
the old woman "You going to be okay?"
"I think so!"
The girls kissed Kevin on the cheek and then said to the old woman. "Then we
will leave you with your grandson." Cindy used the cell phone to call her dad
and they walked to the corner to be picked up.
Kevin turned his head back to the old woman, whom just now understanding how
close she was been running over by that red SUV. She smiled at Kevin from the
side of the road.
"Young man, thank you for saving my life," the old woman said.
"Oh, it's nothing. Just next time make sure you look both way before crossing,
and use the cross walk instead of jaywalking in the middle of the road." he
said, blushing.
"No, for your effort, you have to be rewarded with something." The old woman
said and closed her eyes. Few seconds later, she opened her eyes and had a smile
on her old face.
"So, you're a writer, right?" The old woman said and that surprised Kevin a bit.
He had never saw this old woman all his life and the old woman somehow knew
Kevin's little secret.
"Well, no ma'am. I try to be a writer, but I'm not really any good at it." Kevin
said with flushed embarrassment on his face.
"Young man, it's not a problem. Here," the old woman reached into her bag and
got something out. "This is the reward I shall give you for saving my life." And
she handed the thing over to Kevin. It was a small laptop computer.
"I can't accept it, ma'am. Really, I didn't do that much, just forget it, okay?
You don't owe me anything."
"No, good deeds, as well as bad have to be properly rewarded. This laptop is a
magic computer; whatever you write on it will come true. I think this might help
you in your recent failed attempts to get a car, and maybe even getting a
girlfriend.
"But I have to warn you, there's a limit what the computer can do for you. Once
you cross that ability by asking the impossible, the computer will perform its
last magic, on the owner himself. It will unleash, with all the previous magical
effort, things that the owner requested would happen to the one written about.
If you had wished for that angry driver into becoming a 3-foot tall person, then
the computer's last magical power would also make you another 3-foot tall
person.
"So you have to be careful what you write. Anything you write that's good for
the person, the computer will not punish you for it when the end comes. But
anything you write that's bad for the person, the computer will punish you for
the same when the end comes. So, good luck, young man!"
Kevin didn't believe what had happened. He looked at the computer and when he
looked up the old woman was gone. He put it in his heavy book bag and went home.
First thing he did when he got home was to try and use the laptop computer. It
wasn't really a laptop computer it turned out; it was more or less a word
processor. He looked at it, still not believing what the old woman said about
the old machine. Kevin stared at the screen for about 5 minutes; he didn't know
what to do. But the only way for him to see if the magical power of the laptop
was really true would be for him to write something.
So he wrote his first story on the laptop for about 10 minutes, thinking it was
a stupid joke. But he saved the story, went to work on his homework and totally
forgot about the laptop for the whole day.
The next morning, Kevin woke up from sleep and heard a series of knockings on
the front door of his house. When he went to answer it he saw a group of people
dressed in suits, plus two TV cameras.
"Are you Kevin Brown?" One of the guys in dark suit asked. When Kevin nodded,
the guy handed him a set of key.
"Mr. Brown, you have just won the Grand prize on the Shop Mart drawing! You're
over 18 right?" Kevin nodded again, since he just had his 18th birthday three
days ago.
"Good, are you happy or surprised by this?" Another guy in suit asked, for the
benefit of the cameras.
"Yeah, you can say that. What did I win?" Now Kevin's parents had also been
woken up by the sudden noise and went to the front door to see what was going
on. The group of people in front of Kevin parted to reveal a brand new red SUV!
Kevin's head was going nuts! He had almost totally forgot what he wrote in that
magic laptop yesterday afternoon, but he remembered that he said he would get a
new red SUV this morning!
Kevin's mouth was wide open now, as were his parents. They couldn't believe
their son would suddenly get what he always wanted to have, a brand new car for
his 18th birthday.
So that morning, Kevin drove his brand new SUV to school, to the surprise of all
his friends at school. Girls suddenly noticed who he was, and kept asking when
he would take them out for a ride on the new SUV. It hadn't hurt that the two
cheerleaders had told how brave he was when he rescued his grandmother.
During the day and after school football practice, Jason didn't have any
cheerleaders around him, for those cheerleaders were now all around Kevin!
Stories of what an unfeeling jerk Jason had been to the old woman and to two of
their number had put his stock in the cellar! Kevin smiled at the new reversal
of fortune, and just couldn't wait to get back to his room and write a little
more on that magic laptop computer.
Over the next few days, Kevin's father got a new job that paid 3 times more than
his old! His mother didn't have to work any more as a legal secretary and could
devote herself to her life long cause of helping battered women and children.
Amazingly the whole family won other drawing, including 14 days vacation in
Hawaii and a Lottery jackpot, worth around 200 million dollars! Also, he wrote
that the old lady who gave him the computer would someday get her heart's
desire. It was the very least he could do.
Kevin and his family's sudden wealth did attracted more than a few very curious
people wondering what was going on. One of them was Jason. He lost the tight end
position to Kevin, he also lost his girlfriends. Then Kevin became the hero of
the Friday night football game against the high school's long time rival, a game
that Kevin's team knew they don't stand a chance to go up against. So the
surprise performance by Kevin for getting 2 running touchdowns, a touchdown on a
fumble recovery and 4 reception touchdowns helped the team to get an upset over
the rival high school. Kevin was the hero of the game and then on Monday he was
selected as the class President by a landslide.
Jason knew something was wrong, no way was that deeb could beat him out of
anything! He was the best. True the coach and his brain dead teachers thought he
was stupid, but they were too stupid to realize how wonderful he was. Same with
those idiot girls. His latest one had broken up with him saying 'Even the car
and money can't compensate for you being such an asshole!' Kevin must be behind
all this problems!
He followed Kevin home. When Kevin left for a date with the most charming girl
in school, Jason sneaked into Kevin's room and saw the laptop computer was still
turned on. He checked a little, and saw several stories Kevin had wrote had
predicted what would happen the next day! And they all came true! Jason smiled
and decided he would help himself to this little fortune maker. True, none of
the stories ran him down. The only thing Kevin seemed to write about him was
'People realized Jason's true character!' There must be more to his bad luck
than this!

That night Kevin went home after spending few hours in a nice restaurant and
then dancing afterwards with a lovely girl who seemed to really like him. Carol
was so nice. She may not be the prettiest girl in school, but was the nicest.
When he returned to his room, he found his magic laptop was gone! His heart
chilled! He searched everywhere!
He took the steps three at a time. "Mom, Dad - Sis has anybody seen my laptop?!"
They all looked at each other. "No dear, but don't worry we can afford to buy
you another one!"
Kevin was not reassured.

When Jason got the laptop back at his house, he started writing a "story" about
his enemies. He turned Peter into Patty, a red head bombshell with 4 feet long
hair. He also made Dale into Diana, a black cheerleader. John the quarterback
was now Jennifer, the school's openly lesbian school vice president. He then
changed Mr. Johnson, his history teacher that been hard on him recently, into a
3-foot midget! He turned his coach into a homeless street person. He also made
his uncle the new team coach! As for himself, Jason made all the girls in school
want to sleep with him and give him head. He also would suddenly come in contact
with few billion dollars of wealth, then moving into a brand new mansion. He
hadn't decided yet what to do about Kevin. Something really special. He'd sleep
on it.

The next morning at school, Jason wasn't able to keep the girls off him.
Patty was also there, giving him the kiss. She hadn't remembered she was Peter!
Diana also wanted to get on a date with him, but Jason didn't date blacks! The
new Jennifer made the girls feel creepy since she was so openly gay. Mr. Johnson
had to use a chair to address the students in his classroom, no longer the 6

Kevin noticed all those changes in the school, but others around him didn't.
Then he saw four men in suits talking to Jason and he knew Jason must have
something to do with Kevin's missing laptop computer. He tried to talk to Jason,
but he was too busy negotiating with the men in suits. Only later he learned
that Jason had sold the swords his grandfather gave him to those men. Turned out
the swords were 400 year old Japanese antiques and worth a huge fortune, at
least two billion dollars! Those rich guys wanted those ancient family swords
back in their family possession at all cost!
By the time Kevin was able to talk to Jason, it was at the after school football
practice. Jason had just become the team quarterback!
"Look, Jason. I know you have the laptop computer you took from my room. I want
it back!" Kevin said to Jason. "You are doing harm rather than good with it.
It's not a toy, but very dangerous!"
"I have no idea what you talking about. Get lost, asshole!" Jason turned toward
one of the cheerleaders on the sideline blowing him kisses.
"You have no idea what kind of trouble you're getting yourself into. If you ask
for too much or for bad things to happen to others, it could backfire! The old
lady you almost hit warned me about that when she gave it to me!"
"Yeah right! You're just trying to scare me so I'll return the laptop to you.
You think I'm that stupid? I'm not as dumb as I look! Get lost or I'll tell the
coach to get rid of your starting job! No, I'll write about it on the laptop
tonight and make it happen myself, like you will suddenly break both of your
legs by accident!"
That night, Jason wrote in his laptop that Kevin will lose both of his legs due
to accident and be 71 years old, his dad will die of heart attack and his family
will lose all their money! Jason laughed cheerfully that will show Kevin. Now
who else? Oh yes, Mr. George, the head of school security that had got Jason in
trouble so many times, will also die of in a freak accident when his own people
shot him with several bottles of pepper spray. Oh yeah the old lady - who caused
his problems by giving Kevin instead of me that computer. How to punish her? She
was already old and feeble and poor. Jason grinned. He typed out something
really bad will happen to her! Jason laughed again at his work. It serves all of
them right! He contentedly went to sleep.

The next morning, Jason woke up screaming. He was now an old black woman of 71,
only 3-foot tall, lesbian, and with a head full of red hair that was long enough
to cover her new 3-foot tall body frame! Jason screamed and screamed and
screamed. He looked for the magic laptop, and it was nowhere to be seen!
All the bad changes that Jason had made were reversed. Also, Jason's family lost
the billions of dollars since they only got what the swords were truly worth,
$500,000. Oh yes, when his parents found the strange freaky old woman midget in
their house they threw her out! Their son Jason came in as she was being tossed
out. The former Jason's toothless mouth dropped. Who was this impostor in his
great body!? The new Jason smiled.
"God, who is this freak of nature?" he asked.
The homeless freak found herself on the street. How could this happen to a nice
person like me? The former Jason wondered, weeping and hobbling down the street
with everyone drawing away from her in disgust.
The new Jason smiled. It was marvelous to be young and strong again! He had a
great family and a wonderful life in front of him. This new Jason would turn
over a new leaf and wouldn't be a jerk and soon would be popular again. The
powers that be hadn't allow the old woman to use the computer on herself, but
things had turned out very well - very well indeed - at least for her!
