Soon, they were at the empty lot. The trailer park had once been larger than
it was, and now, a large gravel lot on the east side occupied roughly one
third of the trailer park's area. Remnants of broken trailers remained,
broken glass, plastic wrappers, and the occasional used condom mixed with
gravel, dirt, and the occasional weed that sprouted. Off to the side, a semi
truck tractor parked for the two days a week it's driver was home.
"Okay, Charlie, let's see what you can do," Marie commented, as she started

"Simply reach into yourself, and do what is natural!" Mr Tupples commented.
"Clinging Clematis!" Charlie found herself saying as she pulled a purple
flower from her bouquet and side armed it across the gravel lot. The flower
expanded in mid air, with green vines whipping to either side as it spun
like a bolo, before landing on the ground and constricting into a ball of
vines and flowers. It sparkled for a moment, then vanished.
"Good, good!" Mr Tupples exclaimed as he jumped up and down in joy. "What
else can you do?"
Charlie stood still for a moment. Frowning. She had felt the flower pull
something out of her as she threw it. It didn't feel bad, it felt more like
excerpting than being injured, like she was stretching a muscle she hadn't

"Ripping Rose!" Charlie called out, and this time the red flower she drew

truck parked on the other side. The sound of shattering glass filled the
air, and the truck's cab rocked back and forth on it's suspension.
"Holy shit, did you see that?" Angie laughed. "We finally have some combat
options here!"
Marie smiled for a moment. She had previously mentioned that the Trailer
Park Girls were all debuff and DOT, and needed crowd control and DPS if they
wanted to step up to the next level. Lee had called her a nerd and told her
to shut up about that video game bullshit, but now Marie was vindicated.
May just stood there, watching blankly. When was she going to get a chance

Lee frowned as she watched, with her arms crossed, displeased at the
complements the others were giving Charlie. "How many flowers do you have in
there?"
"A few more?" Charlie replied as she looked down at the bouquet.
"Yes, I see!" Mr Tupples laughed as he jumped up and down. "This is
wonderful! You can grow and charge the flowers with your magic ahead of
time, then use them in combat! This is a HUGE multiplier, and it's so
flexible! Each flower can do something different! You just have to be
careful that you don't run out of flowers, and make sure you prepare the
right flowers ahead of time."
Lee had been displeased before. Now, she was downright angry. The new girl

Marie's lip twitched as she watched Lee's expression. Lee saw the bait, and

"Time for a sparing match!" Lee yelled. "Tetanus bolt!"
A filthy rusted brown bolt emerged from Lee's hand and flew towards

Charlie straightened out, and looked over at the rest of the team. Marie had

Charlie nodded. These girls, Lee especially, had been pushing her around all
day. Charlie couldn't let that go on, it was about time she stood up for

her.
"Jesus fucking Christ, we're coming!" Marie yelled as she stomped forwards,
looking back at Charlie's face for a moment.

papers and shit to me before you turn them in so I can make sure there's
nothing on them they can use to figure out where you live.
"Also, only magical names from now on. That means you're Rubella, Beetus,
Bloom" Marie pointed each out in turn, then pointed to Lee, who was tapping
her foot by the large double doors of the town hall. "Lockjaw, and I'm Rash.
Don't fuck this up, Rubella, that could get us all killed. Actually,
Rubella, just play the mute game, like when we were kids. I'll do the
talking for you."
Charlie gulped, looking up at the large brick building. Police cars filled
the parking lot next door, the fire department was across the street, and
the other parking lot, the one for the civil employees, was filled with cars
and pickups that weren't dented, rusted, or sitting on cinder blocks.
Precise sidewalks cut through neatly manicured lawns, and well trimmed trees
filled the small courtyard next to the town hall. The few people visible in
the park were all wearing nice suits and professional clothes. They were
well groomed, and had all their teeth.
No one from a larger city would have found it impressive, but the town hall
radiated money, wealth, and exclusivity in a way that Charlie felt was
unwelcoming to someone like her. It had only been a few miles walk, but the
town hall complex seemed like a completely different world than the run down
area of Omaha she and her mother had lived in prior to moving, or the
dilapidated trailer park she now resided in. Charlie looked at the man in a
suit who was sitting on a bench, staring intently at his cell phone, and
imagined that this man might not even know the trailer park existed.
It didn't matter. Charlie was a new person now, she had finally reached the
potential she knew had been inside of her all along. She was in the company
of bullies, about to walk into a government building to do paperwork, still
slightly lost from the changes she had experienced in the few short hours
since meeting Marie, and was deathly afraid of the idea that she would have
to go up against scary monsters with nothing but flowers, but, part of her
was excited. There had been so many changes, and getting those changes
registered felt, on some level, like acknowledgment of her new status.
Charlie took a deep breath, summoned her most charming, confident smile, and
walked proudly into the town hall as Marie held the door open for her team.
