"This can't be happening," Kevin lowly said to himself as he felt sweat
on his forehead. "How could it have? Who would believe me?"
"Keri, is everything all right?" Kevin's mother asked.
"Yes," Kevin responded in a panicked shout.
"Okay," Kevin's mother responded in a concerned tone.
Kevin's stomach tensed as he stared around the room. He wavered between
wanting to vomit and wanting to cry. He stood up and rested himself on
the bed. He cringed as he gazed at the floral pattern on his comforter.
He looked down at himself and ran his left hand along one his thighs. The
smoothness of the touch felt good to him, but any positive feeling he may
have had was quickly overtaken by apprehension.
He realized how good he looked. He knew that girls that look him did not
have any problem finding guys who wanted to spend time with them.
Unfortunately for Kevin, unlike most of those women, he had no interest
in men.
He stared at his manicured fingernails. He had always enjoyed the way
they looked on woman, but now that they protruded from his finger tips,
he saw them in a different light. He wondered how long it took to do
them. He realized that if he could not fix whatever had happened to him,
he would be living a more high maintenance lifestyle. 'I can't live like
this,' he thought to himself as he started to sob into his small hands.
He pondered his situation for a few more minutes before he finally
realized where his salvation might lie.
Liz's name surfaced in his mind and was soon on his lips. Liz had been
his friend since he was in high school. After they graduated, Liz started
an occult shop with one of her friends, Karen. Every time he visited her
at the shop, she always told him a strange magical story.
'Hell, Liz believes in anything,' Kevin excitedly thought to himself. He
knew that if there was one person who would believe him, it was her.
He ran towards his bedroom door. As he opened the door, he realized that
he was only wearing a long T-shirt.
He quickly closed his door and opened up his closet.
Kevin stared somberly at his new possessions. It did not take him long to
realize that he was the type of girl that he liked to call a 'girly girl'
with a mixture of derision and lust. He pulled out the two pieces of
clothing that disgusted him the least. He slipped on a pair of jeans and
put on a long-sleeved, white shirt. He pulled out his only pair of
sneakers and walked over to his dresser. He pulled a pair of socks out of
the dresser. He put his socks and sneakers on and grimaced at the pink
and white sneakers on his feet. Kevin shook his head and then looked
around the room.
"Where's my wallet?" Kevin asked himself. It took Kevin a few seconds to
remember that women carry purses. He looked around for a purse and saw
one resting on a chair. He picked it up and looked inside. He saw his new
driver's license and cringed. He knew that it would show a female, and
that her name would be Keri, but seeing it added a whole new level of
reality to the situation.
He rummaged through his purse and pulled out his keys. He swung his purse
onto his shoulder and hurried through his bedroom door. His mother
approached him before he could leave the house.
"Keri," she said in a low, but angry voice.

"I'll do my best not to, Ma," Kevin answered hopefully. Kevin then rushed
out the door and slipped into his car. He sped down to the occult shop.
He quickly got out of his car and hurried to the door.
Liz looked at Kevin as he walked into the shop. She smiled and said, "Hi,
Keri. What's up? Do you have man problems again?"
"No, Liz!"
"What's wrong?" Liz asked as she heard the desperation in Kevin's voice.
"You're not going to believe this."
"You went on a date and didn't have sex."

"The DMV?" Kevin said in a surprised tone.
"Yes, the Department of Magical Violations. You'd really be better off
just letting it go. Live and let live."
"What is the DMV?"
"It's an otherworldly bureaucracy that was created to deal with magic."
"Can you take me there?" Kevin asked.
Liz noticed the desperate look on his face and responded lowly, "Yes."
"Can we go, now?" Kevin asked in a pleading voice.
"Well, we could," Liz answered with some hesitation.
"Well, let's go then," Kevin replied hurriedly as he started to tap his
foot furiously on the floor.
Liz took a deep breath and answered in a slow, deliberate tone, "Um, no."
"Why not?" Kevin asked in a near shout as he threw his hands up into the
air.
"Keri, I've been there before. It's not an experience you want to
relive," Liz answered as she shook her a little.
"It's Kevin, and it can't be that bad! Please, you have to take me
there," Kevin pleaded.
"Keri, I mean, Kevin, I don't want to."
"Please," Kevin pleaded as he got down on his knees.
"All right," Liz responded as she rolled her eyes and tried to hide her
disgust before she added, "Maybe while I'm there, I'll be able to
convince one of them to increase my resolve."
"Where is the DMV?" Kevin asked as he stood up.
"The DMV is just through that door," Liz said as she pointed at a door
affixed to one of her walls.
Kevin went to open it, but the door would not budge. He looked at Liz,
and she said, "I have to use my spell book to open it."
She walked over to the door with the spell book in her hand. She looked
down at it and swung it towards the door. Kevin heard a loud thud before
the door opened with a creak.
Liz swung open the door, and Kevin looked through the doorway. Liz put
down her book and pushed Kevin through the doorway. She then called out
to her business partner, "Karen?"
"Yes."
"Cover for me."
"You got it."
Liz jumped through the doorway and approached Kevin. She led him into the
main lobby of the DMV. They got on the main line and waited for their
turn to come. Kevin stared around the room. It was wood paneled and had
tin ceilings. After he got tired of looking around the room, he asked
Liz, "Why do they have lines, if they can use magic to fix things?"
"Well, they want to make sure they get things right. I put a suggestion
in their suggestion box the last time I was here. I told them they should
use the internet to process renewals for magic licenses, like some of the
earthly DMV's do now for driver's licenses. I made the suggestion, but
they told me that the internet just isn't secure."
"They have magic! Couldn't they just make it more secure?" Kevin asked as
he raised his eyebrows.
Liz nodded and said, "You'd think that. You really would,"
Kevin shook his head as the line moved forward. As the line stopped
again, Kevin heard someone say something. Kevin looked at the man
standing behind him. The man was muttering to himself about the line.
The man looked at Kevin and said, "Hi, I'm Bill."
"Hi, I'm Kevin, and this is my friend, Liz."
The man stared at Kevin for a moment. He looked at Kevin's delicate,
female body and said, "Don't tell me. Gender change?"
"Yup," Kevin responded.
Bill laughed and said, "Have you ever noticed that it almost never seems
to happen to someone who wants it to?"
Kevin shrugged his shoulders and said, "What are you on line for?"
"I'm here to get the paperwork I need for a promotion."
"Oh, you work here?"
"Yes. I don't understand why we have stand on these lines too. It seems
like they're taking great liberties with us employees."
"What do you do?" Kevin asked.
"I'm responsible for making sure that all blonde celebrities under 30 are

"Thanks! I hope my supervisors' think the same. Now, that I finally got

"What do you want to do?" Liz interjected.

"I'll pass on that," Kevin hurriedly responded.
"You know, a lot of guys would pay to be a blonde bimbo."
"Not me," Kevin answered as he shook his head.
"Your loss," Bill responded with a smile.
"Next," Kevin heard the woman behind the counter scream. Kevin approached
her and told her his situation. She directed him to the body
transformation line.
Kevin and Liz walked over to the body transformation line. They both
stared down at a midget who was standing in front of them on the line.
"What are you looking at?" The midget asked with a sneer.
"Nothing," Kevin responded.
The midget squinted his eyes and asked, "So what are you here for?"
"Gender change," Kevin answered.
"Oh, you're one of those," the midget responded dismissively.
"What are you here for?" Liz asked.
"I want my old body back."
Liz smiled and said, "Why were you changed? Were you a tall guy who made
fun of a short guy?"
"No! I was a dwarf. I pissed off a magician, and he went and turned me
into a midget. He took away my livelihood," the midget shouted.
Kevin and Liz looked away from him. Kevin looked at Liz and grimaced.
They waited in silence for an hour before they were called forth by the
woman behind the counter. They told her Kevin's predicament, and she
smiled and nodded and said, "You don't want this line. You want that one
over there for gender transformation."
"What? We've been waiting on this line for over an hour," Kevin shouted.
"Miss, screaming will not get you out of here faster."
"This is absurd! Can't you just bring me whatever I need?"
"Miss, we don't do things that way."
"This is a mad house! Mad House," Kevin shouted.
"That's it. I'm on break," the woman said before she disappeared.
Liz dragged a seething Kevin away from the counter. They stood on the
gender transformation line for two hours. After Kevin explained what had
happened to him, he was given a form and told to wait outside an office
door.
Kevin filled out the forms as he waited. After a 30 minute wait, he was
called into the office by a middle-aged man.
"How are you, Miss," the man asked.
"It's Kevin, and I've been better," Kevin responded as his head twitched
slightly.
"Right. I'm James, and I'll be handling your file."
"Good, can you change me back?"
"Well, yes. I could. I am a sorcerer, but we don't want to do anything
hasty."
"Why not?" Kevin asked.
"Listen, this will go a lot faster, if you don't interrupt me, Miss."
Kevin nodded his head. He sulked as James looked down at the form. A
second later the door opened.
"James," a man called in.
"Yes, Tom."
"Kristen wants to know if you want to go in on a gift for John and Lucy."
"Sure," James responded with a smile.
Tom said, "Great," before he closed the door.
"Those people are worthy of kissing my ass," James remarked as the door
closed.
"James," Kevin, Liz, and James heard a man say as the door to the office
room opened again.
"Yes, Mr. Smith. How are you? What do you need? That red tie makes you
like dynamic, Sir," James said as he approached the man.
"Thanks. Could you bring me the Peterman report by the end of the day?"
"No problem, Sir. It's an honor to do anything for you."
"Okay, then. Good day, James"
"Good day, Mr. Smith," James responded as he closed the door.
"Moron. That jackass has got me working on some piece of shit report. I
should have his job. I've got twice the skills that he has."
"Why are you so agitated?" Kevin asked.
"Why? I was a star before they stuck me here."
"Why'd they do that?" Liz asked.
"You lose one magic medallion that disrupts only a few thousand lives on
earth, and, all of the sudden, you're a pariah around here."
"Oh, that's too bad," Kevin remarked with feigned compassion.
"I don't need your pity. Someday, I'll be in charge around here. I know
somewhere it is better. Somewhere over the rainbow..."
"You know, I still have a problem," Kevin interjected.
"Oh, yes. You, you, you. Just because you're here to deal with your
problem, it must be my concern."
"Isn't that your job?" Kevin asked.
"You don't know my job description," James responded.
"Okay, you're right. What is it?" Kevin asked as a vein started to
protrude from his neck.
"To serve man."
Kevin jumped up and ran to the door. He turned the door knob, but the
door would not open. He looked behind him and saw Liz and James staring
at him with odd expressions on their faces.
"He's not an alien, Keri. Kevin, I'm sorry," Liz said.
"Settle down, ladies," James interjected.
"I'm not a lady," Kevin shouted.
"Look, I'm only calling you what you're now. I don't want to get sued, so
you'd better get used to it," James responded as he wagged a finger at
Kevin.
Kevin pouted as James looked over Kevin's forms.
After a few minutes, James picked up a stamp and authorized the forms. He
then directed Kevin out the door. However, Kevin was not ready to leave.
He asked, "Aren't you a sorcerer?"
"Yes."
"Then can't you just change me back?"
"I could, but I won't! It's against regulations."
"But, but...," Kevin said in a pleading voice as James pushed him out the
door.
"You've got to play by the rules," James said as he slammed his door in
Kevin's face.
Liz followed James directions and led Kevin to the right area, but they
did not see the office. Liz approached a booth and asked the clerk, "Do
you know where we can find office 2c?"
"Yes, it's right through that wall."
"What?" Liz asked.
"You have to run through the wall to get into it."
"Are you serious?" Kevin asked as he approached the booth.
"Yes."
Kevin nodded and ran towards the wall. He crashed into it and fell to the
ground. Kevin's nose swelled up as he tried to stand up.
"What the hell, man," Liz turned and shouted to the clerk.
"Oh, I meant that wall," the man corrected himself.
Liz shot the man a mean stare and then ran towards the wall. She made it
through. Kevin then collected himself and ran through it as well.
After Kevin ran through the wall, a heavyset black woman approached him.
She took the form out of his hand and gave it to a scrawny man seated
behind a desk.
The man read the form to the woman and said, "Oh, this is just another
Mister Miss case."
The woman smiled and said, "You'll have to see the wizard."
"He doesn't have to go into the mirror world?" The man interjected with a
question.
"No! He must see the wizard," the woman corrected him.
"Fine, where is he?" Kevin asked.
"Just go through that door and wait for a guide to lead you through the
maze," the woman answered.
"Do we really need a guide?" Liz asked.
"No one has ever gotten out of that maze without a guide," the man
replied.
"Oh," Kevin responded.
Kevin walked towards the door and heard the woman say, "Stop right
there."
He looked at her, and she twitched her nose. He felt something move
across his chest. Kevin gave the woman a confused look.
She smiled at him and said, "You're going to need that sports bra in the
maze."
Kevin thanked her and approached the door. Kevin and Liz walked through
the doorway and waited for a guide to emerge from the maze. After 20
minutes had passed, one guide did emerge.
"Do you need to see the wizard?" The guide asked.
"Yes, we do," Kevin responded.
The guide nodded his head and said, "Follow closely behind me, and do as
I say."
Kevin and Liz followed the guide as he navigated the maze. As they made
their way through it, they heard a sound behind them.
"Waka, waka, waka," they heard something shriek.
Kevin and Liz looked around frantically. The guide told them to duck.
They then heard the sound again. This time it sounded as if it were
coming from in front of them. The guide told them to run. They ran
towards where the sound was coming from, and it seemed to get farther
away. The guide looked back and told them to duck, but it was too late.
The yellow beast had seen them. It made a lumbering turn and moved
towards them.
The guide started to run. Liz and Kevin followed him.
"Don't follow me," the guide shouted. "Let him get one of you. I'm too
important."
"What is that?" Kevin shouted.
"It's Pac-Man," the guide responded.
"Pac-Man?" Kevin screamed.
"Yes. There have been many Pac-Men. They each became the Pac-Man when the
previous Pac-Man devoured them. The Pac-Man can't become normal again,
until he devours another person," the guide yelled back to them.
Liz stopped running as the Pac-Man closed in on them.
"Liz," Kevin screamed as Liz was devoured by the Pac-Man. The Pac-Man
vanished, and a man came into being. He threw up a yellow ball and
started to run towards Kevin and his guide.
"I'll kill you," he screamed as he started to choke the guide. "You
pushed me at that thing!"
Kevin pulled the man off of the guide, and the guide said, "We have to
get out of here before that yellow ball turns into Ms. Pac-Man and comes
after us."
Kevin and the new man recognized that the guide had a point. They ran
behind the guide as he led them towards the end of the maze. The guide
suddenly stopped short, and the new man flew over an edge. Kevin caught
him and struggled to keep him from falling. It took every ounce of
strength in his small body to help get that man back onto solid ground.
The guide smiled at Kevin and said, "Good job."
"Don't you care that I almost died," the new man asked angrily.
"I get paid either way," the guide responded.
Kevin shook his head at the guide, but he continued to follow him.
Finally, after running for a few more minutes, they reached the end of
the maze. After turning and punching the guide in the nose, the man ran
up to Kevin. They walked into the Wizard's chambers together.
"Halt!" They heard a voice shout.
They looked around for the source of the voice until a small man floated
over to them.
"Hello, Kevin and Stephanie," the man said as he took the forms from
their hands.
"Who are you?" Stephanie asked in a burly voice.
"I am the Gender Wizard. I am tasked with turning you back into
yourselves."
"Really? You can change us back?" Stephanie asked excitedly.
"Yes," the wizard answered before he added in a muffled voice,
"sometimes."
The wizard looked at them and hit them with a blast of energy. Kevin and
Stephanie fell back to the floor. They got up and looked at each other
with dumbfounded expressions. Kevin and Stephanie both realized that they
had simply traded bodies.
"Uh, Gender Wizard, Sir, this isn't quite right," Kevin said to the
Wizard.
"We're both the right genders, but do you think that we could have our
old bodies back too," Stephanie asked in a meek, concerned voice.
"I'll give it a try," the Gender Wizard answered flippantly.
Kevin and Stephanie were thrown to the floor by another burst of energy.
"Damn it," Kevin exclaimed as he looked at his male body. Stephanie
nearly fainted when she saw her female body cursing angrily.
"Gender Wizard, you placed her in my normal body and me in hers. We need
you to change us again."
"Well, I'm a little tired. Can you come back tomorrow?" The Gender Wizard
asked.
"No!" Kevin responded.
"Well, I can't change you now. My powers have been run down. You're free
to stay the night in my dungeon of nightmarish torture, if you don't want
to go through everything again."
Stephanie fainted. Kevin looked at the wizard and shouted, "Dungeon of
nightmarish torture?"
"Oh, it's a just name," the Wizard responded as he shook his head
slightly.
Kevin gave the wizard an angry look. He looked at Stephanie and tried to
wake her up. After a few minutes of slapping and pinching her, he was
able to wake her. As Kevin helped Stephanie to her feet, Liz walked into
the wizard's chambers.
"What do you want?" The wizard asked Liz.
"Oh, I'm just here with my friend, Kevin."
"Oh, all right. He's heading down into the dungeon. Don't bother me until
tomorrow."
Liz ran over to Stephanie.
"What's wrong, Kevin?" She asked.
"She's not Kevin," Kevin responded.
"What?"
"I'm Kevin," Kevin responded from Stephanie's body.
"Wow, you're looking prettier than usual," Liz responded.
Kevin rolled his eyes and said, "Can you help me get her down the
stairs?"
"Sure," Liz answered.
Kevin and Liz helped Stephanie walk down the stairs. They stood her up
against a wall. Liz then looked at Kevin and asked, "What happened?"
"The wizard messed up!"
"Yes, he does that from time to time."
"What are you not telling me?" Kevin asked.
"Well, he still might not get it right tomorrow. Wizards are typically
either mean spirited or incompetent. And this wizard is not the best
wizard. He's not very good at what he does. I'm sure that you've figured
that out by now."
"Yes, I could sense that," Kevin responded as he put his head down.
"Well, maybe he'll get it right tomorrow."
"I hope so," Kevin responded. He then added after a brief pause, "What
happened to you?"
"Nothing much. The Pac-Man ate me. I became Ms. Pac-Man. I was Ms. Pac-
Man for an hour or so, and then I ate this Swedish guy. After that, I
joined up with his guide, and he led me here."
"I'm sorry about that," Kevin said.
"It's no big deal," Liz responded.
Kevin went to say something, but he heard a bang. Kevin and Liz walked
down the corridor. They approached the source of the noise. Kevin saw a
shadowy figure and picked up a brick with Stephanie's small hand.
"Oh, I didn't mean to frighten you," the Gender Wizard said as he looked
at them.
"What are you doing here?" Liz asked.
"I thought I left my contacts down here."
"You're a wizard! Why don't you just fix your eyesight?" Kevin shouted.
"That's not a bad idea, but it's against regulations."
Kevin shook his head in disgust.
"All right, I'm going to get out here. I'll see you folks tomorrow," the
Gender Wizard said before he disappeared.
Kevin sat down on the floor and grabbed his head.
"Are okay?" Liz asked.
"I'm all right. Let's just get some sleep," Kevin answered as he lied
down.
Liz nodded. She lied down beside him and went to sleep.
Liz awoke the next morning and woke up Kevin and Stephanie. They walked
up the dungeon steps and approached the wizard. The wizard looked at
them, and Liz ran towards the door. She looked back at the confused
Wizard and said, "They're ready now."
The wizard nodded slowly. He hit Kevin and Stephanie with another bolt of
energy. They stood up in their own bodies. They smiled at each other and
Stephanie did a triumphant leap into the air. They gave each other a
celebratory hug while Liz rushed towards them. Kevin turned and hugged
Liz and kept repeating, "Thank you," in her ear.
After they ceased their embrace, Liz and Kevin joined up with Stephanie
and exited the Gender Wizard's chambers. When they walked through the
door, they realized that they were back in the waiting room of the DMV.
A large man walked up to them and said, "You can leave through the same
door you entered through."
He then turned and walked away. Kevin and Liz said goodbye to Stephanie
and headed for the door. They stepped through the doorway, and Liz used
her spell book to reseal the entrance. After Liz finished, she put the
book away and stared at Kevin.
"So do you think that it was worth it?" Liz asked.
"Yes, but it probably would have been easier to kill the Femem and eat
her heart, if I knew where she was."
"That's the problem with her."
"Yup. Thanks," Kevin said with a smile.
"For what?"
"Taking me to the DMV."

"Well, I knew about the Pac-Man, so I knew that the guide wasn't lying
about the whole Pac-Man procedure. I was just happy to help."
"If I can ever do anything to help you, just tell me," Kevin responded.
"Well, I need someone to take me to the airport next Friday."
"What time do you need to be there?" Kevin asked with a smile.
"5 a.m."
"5 a.m.! Are you kidding me?" Kevin shouted.
