The female German Shepard Sheba who had once been a stunt
man named Eric Stoltz looked desperately at Sam, the man
who was now her trainer, as the original Sheba had stolen
Eric's male human body and life three long days ago. A
lifetime ago, really!
Eric barked and desperately tried to make writing motions
with her paws. All Sam did was to look irritated and
command "Quiet!"
Damn Sheba's instincts! This body that Eric now found
herself trapped in was so well trained that Eric was forced
into obedience. For three days ever since the original
Sheba had tricked Eric, the trainer and that damned Doctor;
the stuntman had tried everything to arouse the suspicion
that all was not as it appeared and the wrong dog was
turned 'back' into the human body!
Eric's task was not made easier by the fact that her mind
was ruled by Sheba's instincts, training and even thoughts!
Ruefully, Eric realized that any suspicions anyone might
have of anything being wrong would have an up hill battle
because of her own actions. Eric allowed this new body to
be mated!
Eric still remembered the large male German Shepard
mounting her and Sheba's body's passion and instincts
taking completely control of the stunt man's human mind.
And while the male distracted Eric the real Sheba in the
stuntman's body smilingly put the red collar around Eric's
neck! The same red collar that the trainer had put on Sheba
two months ago to keep them straight. It was the same red
collar the real Sheba had pulled off earlier in the evening
after she had tricked Eric into an exhausting playtime!
Then Sheba had been the only awake and alert dog! Somehow
Sheba had planned the whole damn thing!
Then the fake Eric said "Good luck, Sheba!"
He then stepped back so the trainer and the doc could
observe the mating. They had no doubt as to who was who!
Damn Sheba anyway! Now Sheba was living Eric's life and
Eric's Sheba. They had shut the door and murmured something
about a steak dinner waiting for 'Eric' to celebrate 'him'
getting his own body back! Before Sam left he kindly poured
out cans of dog food for Eric and the male Shepard. Even
with the fuzzy vision Eric could see the triumphant look
Sheba cast at the former man, now trapped in her body and
her life!
There was a knock on the door. It was the damn doctor who
had turned the wrong dog into Eric, the wealthy stunt man.
He patted 'Sheba' on the head. Eric felt like biting the
man, but training was against it - besides - what good
would it do except to get 'Sheba' a bad reputation? Eric's
now furry body shuddered. She had few rights now. She could
be put to sleep at a word from her master! God, what a
pickle I'm in, Eric thought and whined.
"Good to see you, too, Sheba, you're a good clever girl!"
said the Doctor.
Great! Thought the former Eric, I'm now reduced to being a
good doggie!
"How's Eric doing, Doc?" asked the trainer as he poured his
guest a beer.
"He is doing well, Sam," the doctor had told the handler.
"Eric is rapidly returning to normal. Nobody now will
notice anything strange about him and our secret is safe
that he impersonated Sheba during the movie. He walks and
talks normally. His vocabulary is back to normal and the
nurse I sent to help him through it, says he is all man
now!"
They both laughed.
"Good for him!" said Sam.
Eric had just buried her snout in her paws and whined. It
was nightmare! A nightmare. Why couldn't she wake up?
They ignored 'Sheba'.
"And good for my nurse Alice! They're engaged. Eric's not
only a great looking guy, but I'm sure that bank account
with over $500,000 in it didn't hurt!"
They both smiled cynically.
"I guess Eric was pretty vulnerable just becoming a human
male again after being Sheba for two months."
"Alice thought so, too. I think that's why she asked for
the assignment. She had her eye on him when we first talked
about doing the procedure."
Eric closed her current eyes. 'My god, Sheba was already
engaged and to that pretty young nurse I flirted with two
months ago!' Eric thought. 'My misery is now complete.'
Eric was wrong.
Sam laughed. "That's not the only romance! I just checked
and Sheba is pregnant!'
'Oh, my God!' Eric thought, frozen with horror. 'I'm going
to have - puppies! Perhaps MANY PUPPIES! Then have them
with their shark teeth nursing at my tender breasts!'
"Yep, the mating took very well!"
"Could I have one of her puppies?" asked the doc.
"I don't see why not?" answered Sam easily.
'Even my children can be given away,' Eric thought.
"We start tomorrow for the tour. It's a shame we have to
fly Sheba in a cage in the baggage compartment."
Eric groaned internally!
The doc laughed. "She won't notice the difference! I'm glad
the movie finished few days ahead of schedule. As I told
you I wasn't comfortable having Eric go much beyond nine
weeks. His human mind and memory would start to fade. After
all a dog's brain is much lower in capacity than a
human's!"
"Unless you're a vice president!"
They both laughed and Eric had something more to worry
about!
"Twelve cities in fourteen days!" said the handler. "I'm
going to be worn to a nub!"
Eric whined.
Somehow Eric endured the trip, the cage and every other kid
having sticky fingers to pet her with. All his efforts to
convince Sam that there was something wrong and that Eric
wasn't Sheba came to nothing!
Sam poured out another can of dog food and Eric resignedly
started wolfing it down. Once when she was very thirsty she
had drunk out of a toilet bowl!
Finally belatedly Eric had a glimmering of why. No one was
looking for anything! Eric having allowed herself to be
mated with the male Shepard and with the red collar on her
neck produced certainly that they had changed the real Eric
back! Besides, even if a suspicion started to arise it
would be quickly suppressed! It was to no ones interest
that they find out a mistake had been made! The cruel
thought was true. The procedure was fiendishly expensive.
Then there would be lawsuits perhaps running into the
millions, the fact that a human in a dog's body had starred
in the film might reduce its box office and last but not
least - no one wanted to admit they made a mistake.
Eric bitterness increased. Now the original Sheba was out
there somewhere in the human world living Eric's life and
enjoying no doubt eating human food and other human
pleasures and freedoms and everyday that past Sheba's
impersonation of Eric's former self was surely getting
better. Sheba had not only been smart but now had Eric's
brain, body and instincts to use. Eric in the meantime was
forced into Sheba's body and life and it was harder and
harder to think as clearly as before and her human
knowledge and former human personality was slipping away.
Everyday she was more Sheba! Eric vaguely remembered the
doctor saying that two months was close to the outside
desirable limit for a human to be a dog, that's the animals
brain couldn't contain all his human knowledge for much
longer and each day his human personality would be
difficult to maintain and he would become more and more
Sheba like! Well his predictions had proved true. Eric
still understood much of human speech, but knew there were
growing gapes in her knowledge and it was almost impossible
not to mimic Sheba's personality. Also, Eric responded to
the ingrained commands of her trainer.
Eric bitterly reflected. She was now a good dog!
Time went by. Eric spent a great deal of time alone as the
trainer caught up with his life. She couldn't help but
reflect on many if - what if she would have been more
suspicious and not worn herself out and been awake when the
trainer and the doc came? Can a life, an identity hinge on
such a slight fact as these?
Every day Eric felt more and more uncomfortable. Her
pregnancy was making her heavy. God what a feeling! Now her
life was the trainer and the puppies growing inside of her.
Her thoughts were fuzzy now, and it was harder to hold on
to her human memory.
Her trainer came home and she leaped and barked excitedly
and gazed with dog like devotion at Sam. She licked his
hands and he petted her. It felt great! Her new personality
was taking more and more hold of her. Now she found
pleasure in Sam's company. It had been perhaps a month or
more the original Sheba had tricked everyone including Eric
and had received Eric's former human body when the doctor
had come to return Eric to human form. But time was getting
harder and harder to measure. Still Eric knew enough that
time in her new body was going to run out far sooner in a
five year old dog's body than in a twenty five year old
human male form!
The doc came buy to have a few beers and to tell Sam the
news. 'Eric' was back from his honeymoon!
"It's a shame you are having your children out of wedlock,
Sheba," the trainer joked.
"He wants a puppy, too."
"Okay, I guess he earned it - being a dog for two months -
not something I would want to do."
The doc nodded. "The studio has been unable to talk him
into becoming a house for a flick. He says that once as an
inhuman was enough for him! Though he's better than ever on
many stunts. Maybe a little of Sheba did carry over. Eric
has almost an animal like agility! My nurse is now only
working part time. With the money he's got and earning
she's sitting pretty!"
Eric whined. They paid him no heed.
Occasionally Eric was allowed to romp and play with other
dogs, but now he was a valuable property for the studio!
Her giving birth to puppies would be sold to national TV!
Everyday Eric felt herself getting heavier. Her many tits
swelled with milk. Then finally the labor started. A vet
was sent for. God was it painful, but instinctively Eric
gave birth to 6 puppies if she but knew it 63 days after
mating.
Eric couldn't help but feel a fierce protectiveness towards
the helpless, blind and mewing babies. She whimpered
knowing they soon would be taken away from her.
Soon they were nursing and soon she felt the nip of little
teeth on her sensitive nipples, as they grew older.
The phone rang one day and Eric heard her beloved trainer
Sam say.
"Sure come on over and take your pick of the litter! One
will be given away in a contest the studio is holding but
there are five others."
Soon the doorbell ran. Eric was nursing her puppies and
they sucked greedily. Sam opened the door.
The hair on the back of her neck stood up. She recognized
that scent. It was her former self! She heard the clatter
of high heels and the firm fall of larger feet and looked
up.
Through the distorted vision she was able to recognize her
former face. This Eric was smiling broadly. He was well
dressed and moved like - well like Eric. Clinging to the
new Eric's arm was a beautiful blond girl - his bride! She
rushed over cooing!
"They're so cute! Can we take our pick, Eric darling?"
"Of course," 'Eric' replied evenly, kissing Alice.
The now Sheba found a growl forming in her throat.
Deliberately and tauntingly the large young man came over
and patted the dog's head.
"I miss you, Sheba, you were always a good girl."
The now Sheba wanted to tear at him, but instinctively she
couldn't - she couldn't abandon her puppies when they were
feeding.
"I think I will take that one!" Alice pointed at the cutest
puppy. "Are you sure dogs don't mind?"
Her husband laughed. "Alice, they're only dumb animals!"
He looked triumphantly at 'Sheba' and smiled and winkled
and mouthed 'thanks for everything!' Only Sheba saw him.
