Chapter 4 - Announcements
The front door bell rang and Christopher went to answer it.

"There's just one other thing I would like to say and to be honest
there's no easy way to put this," Helen went on.
"After we get married we are moving to Australia so what that means I'm

puts you out of a job Linda."

queried.
"Christopher has just been made redundant," Linda replied.

From a reasonably pleasant gathering of friends, a sudden depression
descended on this party.
"There is a way out of this, you know," Helen said.
"What's that?" replied Linda.
"Yes, what's that?" echoed Christopher.
Helen went on, "Well, what I'm about to say, I was actually going to say
anyway when I announced I was going to sell up. Because you're family,
I'm going to make you an offer. In other words, I'm giving you first
refusal to buy the business."
"What do you mean?" Linda queried.
"What I mean is, would you like to buy the shop, the lingerie shop?"
"Pardon."
"I'm giving you the chance to buy the shop?" Helen repeated.

The depression of the evening lifted slightly, the meal went ahead as
planned and a few more drinks followed and the atmosphere mellowed the

she had loved working in for the last two years. The more she thought
