Making Adjustments
By Morpheus
Part 1
It was in the middle of the afternoon as the school bus slowly drove
through the quiet streets, dropping kids off after their long day at
school. 12 year old Richie Harper sat in his seat, silently watching
the scenery pass him by. Several times he stared at kids who got off
the bus, trying to figure out which house they actually lived in.
Then Richie turned his attention to the girl who sat several seats in
front of him. He let out an almost imperceptible sigh as he admired
Lisa, one of the prettiest girls in his class. He'd had a crush on her
for awhile, but then again so did most of the other boys. Of course she
had no idea that he liked her... or at least he hoped she didn't. It
was kind of embarrassing to like a girl like that and he blushed at what
people would think if they found out.
"Hey Richie," his fiend Ben exclaimed, "I'm having a big birthday party
next Sunday. Don't forget..."
"I won't," Richie told him with a grin, remembering last years party
when Ben's parents had taken everyone to a go-cart track for his
birthday party.
"And don't forget my present," Ben reminded him seriously, "I want a
really cool one..."
"What do you think I am... rich?" Richie asked with a snort.
"Richie Rich," Ben laughed. Then at the blank look on Richie's face,
Ben explained, "You know...that old cartoon character about that really
rich kid? My dad said he used to watch Richie Rich all the time when he
was a kid..."
"Okay," Richie shrugged, still not knowing what Ben was talking about.
"Just don't forget about my present," Ben reminded him again, then
announced unnecessarily, "Here's my stop..."
After Ben was gone, Richie turned his attention back to Lisa. He
watched her silently as she continued talking to her friends, still
having no idea that he was there watching her. Of course, even though
they'd been in the same class for several years, she still barely even
knew he existed. And though that frustrated him, there was a strange
sort of comfort in that too.
When Richie reached his own stop, he quickly climbed off the bus and
gave one final look back at Lisa whom he could see through the bus
window before it drove away. He sighed, then turned and hurried to his
house, eager to catch the cartoon shows he'd saved on Tivo and forget
about school for awhile.
"Hello!" Richie called out as he flung open the door. "Is anyone home?"
There was silence, but that was the answer he'd expected. After all the
front door had been locked and there was no sign of his mom's car in the
driveway. Of course her boyfriend Adam, who'd recently begun living
with them, could have been home working as he sometimes was, but Richie
hadn't seen his car either.
Richie frowned slightly as he thought about his mom's boyfriend. It
wasn't that Richie disliked Adam. He didn't. In fact he actually got
along pretty well with Adam. It's just that the whole idea of his mom
having a boyfriend and having him move in with them was just...weird.
Of course, Richie reminded himself, it wasn't like his dad was still
around. He felt guilty at the faint resentment over his mom finding
someone else. It had been five years since his dad had died and he
couldn't expect his mom to still be alone. She deserved to be happy.
And besides, Adam was helping to pay the bills now so there was more
money for fun stuff.
Richie's thoughts remained on his mom and Adam for only a minute before
they drifted off again. He hurried to the kitchen, grinning as he saw
the small plate of cookies set out on the counter for him.
"All right," Richie grinned biting into one of the chocolate chip
cookies that he so loved. "Mom always buys the best ones..."
After Richie gulped down the cookies that had been left out for him, he
helped himself to two more from the cookie jar and then went to the
living room to watch TV. He plopped down on the couch, finishing off
his last cookie as he looked to see what was stored on the Tivo. Now
that he was home and in front of the TV, nothing else really mattered.
--------------------
Elayne Harper stood in the smoking area just outside of the building
where she worked a file clerk. She lit a cigarette, then glanced at her
watch, relieved to see that she had little more than an hour and a half
before her shift would be over and she could go home.
"I wonder if Adam will be getting home early tonight," Elayne mused to
herself as she considered Adam. "I'll have to stop by and ask him
before I go back to my office..."
Elayne smile as she considered how convenient it was that her boyfriend
worked in the same building as she did, though this was where they'd
first met. She worked for one company as a file clerk while he worked
as a psychologist several floors above her. If it hadn't been for them
meeting the smoking area they could have very well continued to work in
the same building without ever meeting.
"I hope Richie is doing all right at home," Elayne mused, thinking of
her son with a hint of guilt. She hated leaving him home alone after he
got home from school, but work didn't give her much choice. And though
she knew Richie was old enough and mature enough to handle being by
himself for a few hours each day, it still didn't make her feel any less
like a neglectful mother.
"Are you all right?" a voice asked, snapping Elayne out of her thoughts.
Elayne looked to Joyce, a coworker and friend whom she frequently talked
with while on break. "I'm all right," Elayne answered with a smile,
"Just thinking is all..."
"About that handsome Doctor Lawrence?" Joyce asked with a wink. "Is he
as good in bed as you'd hoped?"
Elayne blushed. "That is none of your business." Then she laughed and
winked back, "But I wouldn't have let him move in if he wasn't."
The two women laughed again and Joyce commented, "I'm a little surprised
you had him move in with you. Why didn't you and your son move into his
place instead?"
Elayne took a drag of her cigarette as she considered how to answer
that. "Well, Adam had a nice place, but it was a bit too small for all
three of us. And besides, this is the only real home that Richie
remembers. I'd hate to take him away from that and from school and make
him start over somewhere else."
"Is he at least helping with the bills?" Joyce asked, more than a hint
of suspicion that Adam might not be pulling his weight.
"He's helping," Elayne admitted uncomfortably, "and to be honest, I
think he wants to do even more, but I'm not really comfortable with that
though. I mean, Richie and I have been doing fine. When my husband
Mike passed away five years ago, he had pretty decent insurance and
there was an out of court settlement with his company since he died on
the job. I was able to pay off our mortgage, put enough away for Richie
to go to college, and we get enough interest off the rest to pay off
most of our monthly bills." Then Elayne smiled, "And with what I earn
here, we're doing just fine even without Adam."
"But it's still got to be nice to have a man around," Joyce teased.
"Of course," Elayne admitted smugly, "and that reminds me. How's your
husband doing...?"
"The same as always," Joyce responded with a roll of her eyes. "Would
you believe that yesterday..." She suddenly stopped as a drop of rain
hit her cheek. "Damn... It's starting to rain..."
Elayne looked up at the sky and the dark formation of clouds that were
quickly getting worse. "Damn... It looks like it's going to be coming
down hard..."
And with that the rain began to come down harder and faster. Both women
cursed, dropping their finished cigarette butts into the butt can and
hurrying to the shelter of the building. By the time they reached the
dry entryway they could hear thunder coming from somewhere in the
distance.
Part 2
Elayne looked over the dinner that was nearly finished and frowned,
wishing that she could do more. Unfortunately, when she got home from
work she didn't have much time or inclination to get fancy with dinner.
Instead it was going to be simple and easy fare as usual.
"At least it's not mac and cheese or hamburger helper tonight," she
mused.
Elayne looked at the clock, knowing that Adam should be home at any
time. In fact he should have been home about fifteen minutes ago, but
with the weather being what it was... She shook her head, refusing to
get worried over what was probably nothing.
"Richie," Elayne called out to her son, "can you set the table?"
When there was no answer, Elayne went to the living room where she found
Richie sitting in front of the TV with his video game console. He was
playing one of those fast and flashy games that she just didn't
understand, completely lost to the world around him. She shook her head
and let out a sigh.
"Richie," she called again, this time getting his attention. "I wish
you'd do something besides sitting around watching TV and playing video
games all the time... There are other things to do that don't involve
electronics."
"What?" Richie rolled his eyes in annoyance at the interruption. "What
do you want me to do...go play outside?" He pointed out the window
where the rain was coming down hard. "In weather like that?" Then
there was a flash of lightning and a boom of thunder to emphasize his
point.
"No," Elayne sighed, "but you can set the dinner table. Come on...chop
chop..."
Richie sighed, then put his game on pause to do what his mom said. As
he was going to the kitchen, Elayne heard the familiar sound of a car
pulling into the driveway. She looked at the door with a grin, thankful
that Adam had made it home all right.
A minute later the front door opened and Adam stepped inside. He was
tall at a height of 6 foot 2 and was in good shape thanks to his trips
to the gym at least twice a week. Adam was also handsome with the
rugged good looks that captured the attention of many women.
Elayne rushed to Adam and gave him a quick kiss, feeling rather smug as
she did so. After all she knew of at least three other women in the
building where she worked who were interested in him, but she was the
one who'd got him.
"Dinner's ready," Elayne said unnecessarily as the smell filling the
house already announced that fact. Then she quickly asked, "So how was
work?"
"About the same as usual," Adam responded with an amused smile, "I won't
bore you by getting technical."
"Thank you," Elayne chuckled. She used to be interested in how he spent
his day until he told her several times and left her confused with
technical jargon. All she really understood was that he spend his time
studying the human mind in order to help people with problems.
"It smells good," Adam said pleasantly as he looked over the meal.
"Hey," Richie greeted Adam with a nod.
"And how was your day?" Adam asked him politely.
"I went to school," Richie responded with a shrug as if that said it
all. Adam just nodded politely and took his seat for at the dinner
table.
Dinner started as it usually did with Elayne telling Adam about her day
in great detail while he nodded and made occasional noises to suggest he
was paying attention. Richie ate in silence as his mom talked, wishing
he could eat in the living room while playing his game.
After several minutes the lights suddenly went out and they were sitting
in the dark, except for what light came from the window. "The power
went out," Adam exclaimed unnecessarily.
"Really?" Richie snorted under his breath, continuing to eat though he
could barely see the food on his plate.
"I think I've got some candles," Elayne muttered in annoyance.
Elayne cursed under her breath as she made her way to the living room
and began searching through a drawer for her candles. She quickly found
a few and began lighting them to provide light.
"And you said all those candles I bought were a waste of money," Elayne
teased Richie.
Richie rolled his eyes, then pointed out, "You know we've got that
camping lantern in the shed. It's a lot brighter than your candles."
"You've got a camping lantern?" Adam asked with interest. "That would
give us more light..."
"Okay," Elayne frowned, embarrassed that she'd forgotten all about the
lantern, "I'll go get it..." She was halfway to the back door when she
paused, "Richie...do you know where we put it?"
"Yeah," Richie responded in annoyance, glancing to his half eaten dinner
and then going out the back door with his mom right behind him. He
paused for a moment before going outside, wincing at the heavy rain that
was coming down before he stepped into it and was immediately soaked.
"I should have grabbed an umbrella," Elayne exclaimed, looking back to
Adam who was starting to follow. "You can go ahead and stay dry. We
can get it..."
"I think I like that idea," Adam chuckled weakly as he looked at the
rain. If he could avoid going back out into it he certainly would.
Richie grimaced as he ran through the rain to the shed, almost wishing
he'd kept his mouth shut about the camping lantern. It was too late for
that though, so he'd just have to get the lantern and deal with it.
"I think it's in the back," Richie said as he began opening the shed
door, "I remember seeing it when you made me clean the shed last
month..."
"See," Elayne smirked, "I told you there was a good reason for cleaning
it..."
Richie snorted and went into the shed, going straight to where the
lantern was stored. They'd had it for years, but he was sure it would
still work. After all they'd tried it out just a couple months earlier
when lending it to a neighbor who was going camping.
"Here it is," Richie exclaimed triumphantly as he emerged from the shed
with the lantern in hand.
"Good," Elayne said as she began to take the lantern from his hands.
Just then a burst of lightning shot down from the sky and hit the
lantern. In an instant the lantern exploded in a brilliant flash while
Richie and Elayne were both thrown to the ground.
Richie started to scream as a surge of burning pain shot through his
body and then instantly vanished into darkness along with everything
else. At the same time Elayne felt the burning pain rip through her
body while a strange twisting and tearing seemed to fill her mind.
However both sensations were gone and she sank into unconsciousness
before she even fully registered them.
Adam stood inside the back door with his eyes opened wide in horror at
having just seen his girlfriend and her son struck by lightning. It had
come from nowhere...like a bolt from the blue. He suddenly hated that
old saying since it didn't even hint at just how horrific that kind of
thing really was.
"ELAYNE!" Adam screamed out as he ran to them as fast as he could,
scarcely even noticing that he was getting soaked.
Adam ran to where mother and son both lay on the ground motionless. His
hand shook as he reached for Elayne's body, half afraid that he might
hurt her though this seemed silly at the same time. He could feel a
pulse and she seemed to be breathing all right. In fact her body moved
slightly though she didn't open her eyes when he called out to her
several more times.
"Richie," Adam exclaimed, turning his attention to the motionless boy.
He let out a sigh of relief when he saw that Richie was in an almost
identical state as his mother. They were both alive, though he didn't
know more than that. "I need help..."
After assuring himself that Elayne and Richie were both alive, Adam
raced back inside and stumbled through the dark to find the phone. He
picked it up and immediately began dialing 911, pausing only when he
realized there was dead silence from the other side. He hung it up and
tried again, realizing that there was no ring tone.
"Damn," he cursed, realizing that the phones were down along with the
power.
For a moment Adam remained frozen where he was, unsure of what to do.
Then he turned and raced back out into the yard, slipping on the wet
grass and falling flat on his face before getting back up and hurrying
to Elayne and Richie.
"Elayne," Adam tried to gently shake her, putting his hand on her chest
to feel hear heart beat. He didn't need to do CPR or anything of the
sort which was a vast relief. However he wouldn't be completely
relieved until they were both up and around and a doctor had given them
a clean bill of health.
Then Elayne began to move. Her eyes flickered for a moment and finally
opened. She stared at him with a glassy eyed expression which slowly
began to clear. "I feel weird," she muttered in with dazed expression.
"Thank God you're all right," Adam exclaimed in relief, bending over to
give her a kiss.
But to Adam's surprise Elayne didn't kiss him back. Instead she pulled
away and stared at him with look of disgust as she blurted out, "Don't
touch me you perv..."
Part 3
Richie's mind pulled out of the darkness which had suddenly claimed him
though it still swirled around in a dazed confusion. His senses slowly
returned to him and he finally became aware that there was someone
touching him...holding him. With some effort he opened his eyes.
"I feel weird," Richie muttered as he realized that everything just
felt...wrong.
Then Richie noticed his mom's boyfriend Adam bent over him. Before
Richie could think to wonder why Adam was leaning over him, Adam
exclaimed, "Thank God you're all right," then bent over and gave Richie
a kiss.
Richie was completely shocked by this action and suddenly snapped to
full wakefulness, exclaiming, "Don't touch me you perv..." He pulled
himself away from Adam, staring at his mom's boyfriend in shock and
disgust. He wiped his mouth off, "That's gross..."
"What?" Adam blinked in stunned confusion.
Richie sat in the grass, taking in the fact that he was soaking wet and
getting cold. He looked at he heavy rain and the flashes of lightning
in the distance, his memory sparking. He suddenly remembered how he'd
been going to the shed to get the camping lantern. He'd been coming out
with it when... He scowled, not quite able to remember what had
happened next or why he was on the ground with Adam bent over him.
"Elayne...," Adam started towards Richie with a worried expression, "are
you all right...?"
"What?" Richie blinked in confusion, wondering why Adam was acting so
weird. And why was Adam calling him by his mom's name? "Leave me alone
you perv," Richie told him, then pauses as he noticed that his voice
sounded...wrong.
For a moment Richie remained frozen as his mind tried to make sense of
what was going on, then he noticed someone else laying in the middle of
a the wet grass several feet away. Richie was shocked to realize that
it was a boy and even more shocked when he realized that the boy was
wearing the same jeans and T shirt that he was.
"He's wearing the same clothes as me," Richie muttered, unable to resist
looking down at himself and his own clothes and gasping in shock when he
did. "WHAT THE HELL?"
Richie's eyes went wide in shock and disbelief when he saw his body and
the clothes he was wearing. His first impression was that Adam must
have played a joke on him while he was unconscious and dressed him in
his mom's clothes. After all he was wearing her blouse and her nice
slacks. However his clothes were soaked through and he could see his
skin beneath the blouse and it was not in the right shape.
Too stunned to think clearly, Richie grabbed the two bumps on his chest,
gasping again as he found that they were solid flesh. His throat seemed
to close up for a moment as he could actually feel himself grabbing
parts of his body that hadn't been there before. He could actually feel
his chest sticking out further than it normally did.
Then Richie tore his hands away and froze as he caught sight of them.
He slowly brought his hands up to his face and stared at them in
confusion. His hands...weren't his hands. They were slender and
feminine looking with nails that were longer and much nicer looking than
his. Instead of being the short stubs where he chewed them off, they
were longer and nicely manicured with glossy polish. They weren't his
hands...they were girl hands. He even had a ring on one of his fingers
and he never wore rings. But Richie knew who did.
"Impossible," Richie squeaked out, recognizing his mom's hands. He
turned and stared at the boy, now realizing that more than just his
clothes looked familiar. The boy looked like HIM.
"Are you all right Elayne?" Adam put his arms around Richie trying to be
comforting.
Richie tried pulling away but Adam was too strong and he was too dazed
to put up more effort. He was frozen in confusion, impossible thoughts
running through his mind. He wasn't a fool. He knew this kind of thing
just wasn't possible.
"I'm not..." Richie gulped, "I can't be..."
Just then, the boy began to stir and move. He slowly sat up and
blinked, muttering, "Adam..."
"It's going to be okay," Adam quickly told Richie, "Your son is all
right too..."
"My son?" Richie blinked in confusion.
Adam let go of Richie and went to the boy. "Are you all right Richie?"
"Richie...?" the boy frowned. "How is Richie....?"
"I think you're all right," Adam assured him, "you don't seem to really
be hurt."
The boy nodded in confusion, then turned and saw Richie still sitting in
the grass. They both slowly got to their feet and just stood there
staring at each other with looks of disbelief. Richie gulped, thinking
that this was almost like looking in the mirror. Then he looked down at
himself again and felt a cold chill run down his spine that he knew had
nothing to do with the heavy rain.
"Come on you two," Adam said, "let's get you both inside so you can dry
off..." He paused for a moment to look at the charred and burned mess
that had been a camping lantern just minutes before. "It looks like
we'll have to made due with the candles..."
The boy looked down at himself, his eyes going wide for a moment before
he exclaimed, "HOLY SHIT!"
"Watch your language Richie," Adam admonished him.
The boy looked up at Adam with an expression of pure horror. "I'm not
Richie... I'm Elayne..."
Adam stared at the apparent boy in surprise. "You've just been through
a huge shock...literally. You're just confused..."
"No," Richie blurted out, staring at the boy and realizing exactly what
must have happened. It was like that movie Freaky Friday. He and his
mom must have somehow switched bodies. It didn't make any sense but
that's what seemed to have happened. "I'm Richie..."
Adam stared at the two in confusion, then his expression became much
more controlled. "Let's get you both inside," he said, half pushing
both Richie and his mom into the house. "You both seem to be pretty
confused..."
"I'm not confused," the apparent boy responded almost angrily, "I know
who I am..." He looked down at himself again and winced, then stared at
Richie in horror. "We...we switched bodies..."
"It's like Freaky Friday," Richie agreed unhappily, sure that this had
to be some sort of nightmare. That kind of thing happened in movies,
not in real life.
"It's impossible," Elayne whispered, holding up her new hands and
staring at them in disbelief.
"You both need to get out of those wet clothes and into something dry,"
Adam told them grimly, glancing to the phone and wishing he could call
the hospital. Since they both seemed fine physically, he wasn't sure
that driving them there in the storm would do much good though. "All
you two need is to get warm, dry, and relaxed. Everything is going to
be just fine..."
Part 4
Richie stood in the middle of his mom's bathroom, having been gently
directed there by Adam. He stood by and silently watches as Adam turned
on the water for the shower, making it hot enough that steam was
starting to form.
"A good hot shower will help you," Adam told him before leaving the
room.
"My God," Richie muttered as he looked down at himself in shock.
Then Richie slowly looked at the shower, not quite taking it in at
first. He was soaking wet and dirty from laying out in the lawn in the
pouring rain, and not he was starting to get cold as well. With every
moment that hot shower was starting to look better and better.
After a minute Richie shook himself out of his shock enough to start
undressing. His soaking wet clothes fell onto the bathroom floor piece
by piece until he was standing there completely naked. Without the wet
clothes on he was still cold but not quite as much so.
Then Richie looked down at himself, feeling a cold knot in his stomach
as he did so. He had...he had breasts. He had a pair of breasts on his
chest and a body that just wasn't his. It was a girl's body...a woman's
body. Hell, it was his mom's body. The very idea was impossible, but
he couldn't deny the evidence before him.
Richie stared into the mirror above the sink, silently taking in all of
the details. It was his mom's face reflected back at him...his mom's
naked body. He was too much in shock by this to feel much except a numb
confusion.
"That isn't me," Richie whispered.
It was more than a little strange for Richie to be seeing his mom like
this and it made him uncomfortable. But at the same time, he had to
admit that his mom was still pretty good looking for her age. She was
35 years old and still had a pretty nice body that could easily pass as
belonging to someone several years younger. Even her C cup breasts were
still nice and firm.
Richie tried tuning out his body and focusing on his face. It was
definitely his mom's face, pretty and mature at the same time. He had
her shoulder length dark blonde hair, her ear rings and even her makeup,
though admittedly the makeup was badly smeared at the moment.
"This isn't me," he whispered again, shaking from more than just the
cold.
Then with a shake of his head Richie turned away from the mirror and
climbed into the hot shower. He immediately let out a sigh of relief as
the warmth soaked through his body. He closed his eyes, enjoying the
heat and trying not to think about what had happened to him. However
that was difficult with the water pelting down on his breasts.
Richie didn't bother washing himself since he only wanted to use the
water to get warm. Besides the idea of washing his mom's body just
seemed disturbing and wrong. He shuddered at the idea tried even harder
not to think about his new body.
When Richie climbed out of the shower, he grabbed the huge towel his mom
kept besides the shower and used that to dry himself off. He felt
strange doing so, especially when it came to drying off the two mounds
on his chest. He gasped in surprise though as the soft cloth ran over
his nipples, amazing him with just how sensitive they were.
"Don't think about it," Richie shuddered.
Richie quickly got his body dry, though his hair was another matter. He
knew his mom used a blow dryer and brushed it while doing so, but he
just got it as dry as he could with a towel and left it at that. Then
came the matter of getting dressed.
"I'm not putting on any of my mom's clothes," Richie insisted, glaring
in disgust at the soaking clothes that he just left on the floor. At
the same time though he was sure that his own clothes wouldn't really
fit him anymore. Then he saw the solution, his mom's big fluffy bath
robe which was hanging on the back of the door. He quickly put it on
and strapped it shut. "It's better than nothing..."
Richie looked into the mirror again, or at least he tried. It was too
fogged up this time to see much with. That was fine with him though as
he didn't want to see what he looked like anymore. He shuddered and
slowly left the bathroom, heading to the living room since he wanted to
talk to his mom and Adam and see if they might have figured out a way to
fix this.
"If we can even convince Adam we switched bodies," Richie winced. "It's
not gonna be easy..."
--------------------
"This can't be happening," Elayne cried, sitting on the toilet seat in
the common bathroom and sobbing to herself. She stared at her
unfamiliar hands with the chewed off fingernails and moaned, "It's
impossible..."
Elayne continued crying for several more minutes, horrified at what had
somehow happened to her. She couldn't believe that she and Richie had
actually switched bodies. That kind of thing was simply impossible. It
couldn't happen. She felt as though the whole world had suddenly
betrayed her and turned into something she couldn't recognize.
After awhile the cold and wet finally got through to Elayne enough that
she stood up and climbed out of her soaking wet clothes. She continued
crying though as she removed each piece and dropped it into the hamper.
She whimpered as she looked down at her 12 year old male body, feeling
as though she'd suddenly ended up in some kind of horror movie.
"No," Elayne winced, grabbing her now flat chest in horror. The only
feeling even worse was when she reached between her legs and felt the
alien equipment that had suddenly appeared there.
Elayne quickly climbed into the shower and began scrubbing her body with
a soapy cloth. She didn't know if it would do any good, but it made her
feel a little better. A part of her almost felt that if she scrubbed
hard enough she'd be able to wash away her new body and reveal her real
one beneath.
When Elayne climbed out of the shower her body was red and tender from
scrubbing too hard and too long. She didn't care about that though,
only about the fact that she was still stuck in that horrible little boy
body. She shuddered every time she caught a look at herself.
Then Elayne looked into the mirror, wiping away the fog so she could get
a better look at herself. She almost screamed when she saw her own 12
year old son Richie staring back at her. She had his face, his
undeveloped male body, and even his short dark blonde hair that was
nearly brown.
"I've got to get back to normal," Elayne cringed, turning away from the
mirror and going to Richie's room so she could get dressed.
Elayne absolutely hated getting dressed in Richie's clothes since it
reminded her that she wasn't in her own body. But since she didn't have
much choice, she quickly put on a pair of pants and a T shirt. At least
she had something that would fit her new body, even if it wasn't what
she wanted.
"I'm a freak," Elayne cried again, the tears pouring down her cheeks.
She grabbed her flat chest and sobbed even louder.
When Elayne went into the living room, she found Adam sitting there with
a worried expression on his face. He took one look at her and carefully
asked, "Are you going to be all right Richie?"
Elayne just started crying harder, "I'm not Richie," she protested,
sitting down on the couch and wiping the tears from her eyes. "I told
you...I'm Elayne... Why won't you believe me?"
Adam looked uncomfortable at that statement and didn't seem to know what
to say. "You know that kind of thing is simply impossible," Adam
finally told her.
"Don't you think I don't know that?" Elayne demanded angrily. Then she
bitterly spat out, "You always do this... You think you know everything
and you won't even listen..."
"What...?" Adam blinked.
Just then Richie carefully stepped into the room dressed in Elayne's
bath robe. She took one look at him and then burst into tears again
which only made Richie even more uncomfortable.
"This is...weird mom," Richie said uncomfortably, poking one of his
breasts and shuddering. "I want to change back..."
"Me too," Elayne cried.
Adam stared at them both for a moment before getting up and going to his
briefcase. He pulled out a bottle and shook two pills from it in the
palm of his hand. Then he went to the kitchen and returned with two
glasses of water.
"Here," he said as he handed one pill to each of them, "this will help
you relax and get some sleep..."
Richie gulped down his pill at once while Elayne hesitated, "What is
it?"
"Just something to help you relax," Adam told her gently.
Once Elayne had swallowed the pill, she began to feel the effects within
just minutes. She began to feel increasingly groggy and numb. She was
actually grateful since this was much better than the way she was
feeling.
"You always have the best pills," Elayne giggled as she slowly slid into
unconsciousness. "You remember that pill you gave me last month when I
couldn't sleep...? I certainly had some nice dreams..." Then she
giggled again as she remembered the rather erotic dreams she'd had that
night. She'd been too embarrassed to even describe them to Adam until
several days later. "Some dreams..."
Adam just stared at Elayne as she drifted off to sleep, his eyes wide in
disbelief. "It can't be..." He shook his head, sure that he had to be
imagining thins too. But he was sure Elayne wouldn't have talked about
something like that to Richie. He turned his attention to the apparent
woman who was just slipping away as well. "Is that really Richie...?"
Adam remained where he was for several minutes, staring at the two
unconscious bodies in amazement and disbelief. He wasn't completely
sure, but he was starting to believe their strange claims. After all
the human mind was capable of some pretty strange and amazing things so
maybe with the right circumstances...
"But could they really switch bodies?" Adam asked himself uncertainly,
"Could being struck by lightning really do something like this...?" The
idea seemed preposterous, but the way they were both acting... "I'll
just have to wait... Maybe they'll be back to normal in the morning..."
He certainly hoped so because if they weren't they would have a serious
problem.
Part 5
Richie's sleep was filled with strange and twisted dreams, yet when he
woke up he quickly wished he was back in that world of dreams. For as
strange as his dreams were, they were far more normal than reality.
He slowly opened his eyes, feeling strange and...wrong. That just made
his memories of the night before jump to mind. He gasped as he
remembered somehow turning into his mom. Of course he immediately
reassured himself that was just a dream. That was just one of the weird
dreams he'd been having...even if it had felt completely real.
After a moment Richie slowly realized that something else was wrong. He
blinked, suddenly noticing that he wasn't in his own bedroom. He was in
his mom's room. He sat upright with a gasp, looking around at the room
and then down at himself.
"Oh shit," Richie gasped as he saw his body. He felt a surge of panic
rush through him at the realization that it hadn't been some weird
nightmare. He really had switched bodies with his mom. "No way..."
Richie looked around frantically, relieved when he didn't see any sign
of Adam beside him. He knew that Adam and his mom usually slept
together, but it would have been WAY too freaky to have woken up beside
him. In fact it was already too freaky as it was.
Taking a deep breath to calm down Richie tried to make sense of his
memories. The last thing he remembered was sitting down in the living
room... He vaguely remembered drifting off to sleep there. Then how
did he get here...in his mom's room? It took him a moment to realized
that Adam must have brought him here once he'd fallen asleep.
"Oh God," Richie winced, trying to cover himself up and shuddering at
the thought of what his body looked like.
Richie remained frozen where he was for several minutes before realizing
that he'd have to get up. He certainly couldn't stay hidden in bed all
day. He slowly climbed out of bed, grimacing at the sensation of his
breasts jiggling. He almost felt as though he was going to be sick to
his stomach. Then being careful not to look at himself any more than
absolutely necessary, Richie grabbed his mom's robe off the chair it was
laid across and put it on.
"This can't be real," he scowled, staring at his hands. They were
definitely his mom's hands instead of his own.
Since Richie had no idea of what else he could do, he left the room and
started towards the living room. When he passed the spare bedroom, he
saw that it had been slept in which explained where Adam had been.
Richie felt a little relieved at that, though not much.
When Richie reached the living room he found Adam sitting there with
several thick books opened up around him. Adam looked up with a tired
expression, staring at Richie for a moment.
Finally Adam carefully asked, "Do you remember last night?" After
Richie slowly nodded that he did, Adam continued even more carefully,
"Do you remember who you are?"
Richie gulped and nodded again. Then in a quiet voice, he nearly
whispered, "I'm Richie..."
Adam didn't look surprised at that though he didn't look happy either.
He gave Richie a steady look before saying, "If you don't mind...I'd
like you to answer some questions."
"What kind of questions?" Richie asked suspiciously.
"The easy kind," Adam gave a forced smile.
Adam began asking Richie a variety of questions, quizzing him on things
from school subjects and his best friend to people he'd never even heard
of. After two dozen questions Adam paused and nodded thoughtfully.
"Why don't you go and get breakfast," Adam suggested as he sat there and
considered the answers he'd been given.
Richie nodded and went to the kitchen to pour himself a bowl of cereal.
He sat down to eat, unable to stop thinking about how wrong he felt. It
wasn't just that his body was shaped wrong, sticking out in some places
while having other ones missing. He just felt...jittery.
"This has got to be a dream," Richie told himself grimly, "a really
REALLY bad one..."
--------------------
Elayne was horrified to wake up in Richie's room and immediately jumped
out of bed. She looked down at herself and nearly screamed, then kicked
the dresser that was such an easy target. However that hurt her foot so
she hopped around cursing with every profanity she could think of.
"This can't be real," Elayne snarled angrily, looking for someone to
blame for her current body. Off the top of her head both Adam and
Richie seemed like good targets for blame, though intellectually she
couldn't see what they could have done to cause or prevent this. But
that didn't mean she couldn't be angry with them.
Then Elayne wondered if there had ever been a lawsuit over something
like this before. Even if she could sue someone for ending up in the
wrong body, she couldn't think of anyone that she could actually take to
court over this.
After a few minutes Elayne decided to get dressed. She put on some of
Richie's clothes, cursing the need to do so, but knowing that she
couldn't very well wear anything of her own. Then she took a deep
breath before leaving the room.
Elayne went into the common bathroom, blushing brightly as she sat down
on the toilet to relieve herself. She knew that she now had the right
equipment so she could stand to do her business, but old habits were
hard to break. It was easier to sit down and pretend that everything
was normal, though the sensations of urine coming through her new
plumbing quickly broke that illusion.
Once Elayne was done she washed her hands, scrubbing them as hard as she
could. This whole business of going to the bathroom in her own son's
body was not only disgusting, but downright disturbing in so many ways.
She could only imagine that Richie was having the same problems in her
body, though that hardly improved her mood.
Elayne reluctantly made her way to the living room, not wanting to face
either Adam or Richie, but seeing no choice. She was actually afraid of
them seeing her like this and would have run away if she thought she
could.
When Elayne reached the living room, she found that Adam was already
there waiting for her with a number of his psychology books surrounding
him. He gave her one of his professional looks and studied her for a
moment before saying anything.
"How do you feel?" Adam asked her with a neutral expression.
"How do you think I feel?" Elayne snapped, "I'm freaking out..." Then
she glared at him. "You should be at work."
"I called in sick," Adam responded, "I think this is more important."
Then he scowled and asked, "Do you remember who you are?"
"Of course I remember who I am," Elayne glared at him, "I told you last
night... I know what I look like but I'm really Elayne..."
Adam forced a smile. "You have to understand how this looks..." When
she grunted her reluctant understanding, he asked, "Can you answer some
questions for me?"
Adam began asking Elayne a series of questions, many of them the same
ones that he'd already asked Richie. He became increasingly interested
in her responses and by the time he was through he was positive that in
spite of her appearance this was indeed Elayne. She knew things that
only Elayne would know and didn't know things that a boy like Richie
would.
"This is...amazing," Adam responded for lack of a better word. He
stared at Elayne, no longer having any doubt as to her identity. "I've
never heard of anything like this happening..."
"And that makes me feel so much better," Elayne responded sarcastically,
sitting on a chair well away from Adam and scowling. She shook where
she sat, relieved that he believed her, but not sure what to do next.
"I've heard stories about people being struck by lightning and claiming
odd things happen as a result," Adam continued, more to himself than to
Elayne. "I've just never heard it causing two people to switch bodies
like this..."
"I'm glad you're interested in this," Elayne sneered, fighting to keep
from bursting into tears again. She grabbed her pack of cigarettes from
the coffee table and muttered, "Damn I need a smoke..."
"I don't think so," Adam responded, quickly snatching the cigarette and
lighter from her hands.
"What are you doing?" Elayne demanded.
Adam gave her a firm glare. "You might be a grown woman inside, but
that's still the body of a twelve year old boy and I'll be damned if I
let some underage kid light up in front of me." Then in a more gentle
voice he reminded her, "Besides, that is Richie's body and I don't think
you'd want him smoking."
Elayne stared at Adam with her mouth open, hardly able to believe the
way he'd spoken to her. She gulped, suddenly feeling as though her
adulthood...even her very identity had been stripped from her. And with
that she lost what meager control she had over her emotions and started
crying again.
Part 6
It was late afternoon and the tension around the house was so thick that
Adam half thought that a single spark could cause everything to suddenly
explode. Neither Elayne nor Richie was dealing with their situations
very well and it was all Adam could do to keep from setting them off.
"Switching bodies is impossible," he told himself. Of course everyone
knew that...but he wasn't one to deny what all the evidence suggested.
He no longer had any doubt that they'd switched bodies, even if that
kind of thing was impossible.
Adam closed his head and rubbed his temples, trying to think of how he
could deal with this situation. So far it had been very difficult for
everyone involved, himself included. He could only imagine how
stressful it must be to suddenly find yourself in someone else's body,
much less that of your own child or parent.
Elayne had certainly been taking it hard, bursting into tears several
times during the day. He'd even caught her trying to put on some of her
own clothes and makeup earlier as if that might help her reclaim her
true body and identity. Richie had thrown a huge fit when he saw her
wearing girl clothes and makeup on his body, which only made the
situation all the worse.
Of course Richie was having plenty of his own problems as well. He'd
spent all morning refusing to get dressed in his mom's clothes until it
was pointed out to him that he was already wearing her bath robe. When
he'd seen her wearing her own clothes, that had made him even more
stubborn in his refusal to wear girl clothes. It had taken everything
that Adam had to finally convince Richie to at least put on his mom's
jogging suit.
Richie had also been extremely grumpy, but Adam thought this might be
due to more than just being struck in the wrong body. Elayne was a
smoker but that body hadn't had a cigarette since the night before.
Richie was probably going through the withdrawals from his mother's
nicotine habit.
"And this is just their first day as each other," Adam sighed, imagining
how much worse it would be once their initial shock wore off. As it
was, both of them were on the edge of snapping and suffering irrevocable
psychological harm.
But as difficult as it had been to deal with Elayne and Richie, Adam had
to admit that it was equally fascinating as well. Never before in
history had a psychologist been able to observe first hand the reactions
of two people who'd switched bodies. It was beyond interesting. And
while he was horrified by the situation on a personal level, on a
professional level he couldn't help but be secretly delighted by the
opportunity this presented.
"I need to help them," Adam reminded himself firmly. "That's my first
priority."
Just then the door bell began to ring. Adam let out a sigh of relief
that the pizza must have arrived. Elayne wasn't the greatest cook in
the best circumstances and this was anything but, so it fell to him to
provide dinner. Considering the situation, something like pizza seemed
like the best option.
"I'll get it," Richie called out, rushing to the door.
Richie opened the door and found himself face to face with a pizza
delivery man who was only 5 or 6 years older than him but looked far
younger. It took Richie a moment to realize that the pizza guy was
looking straight at his chest.
"What?" Richie gulped uncomfortably, backing away from the door and
staring at the pizza in disbelief. He blushed brightly as he realized
that the pizza guy was checking him out, then he began to get angry.
"I'll take care of this," Adam said, gently directing Richie away from
the door so he could pay for the pizza.
Once Adam was done buying the pizza, he looked for Richie who had
disappeared. With a deep scowl he went to Richie's bedroom and knocked.
"Come out for pizza..."
"NO," Richie yelled through the door. "He was staring at me..."
"It's bound to happen when you're in that body," Adam tried telling him,
but that only seemed to make things worse. He heard something smashing
against the floor and sighed, deciding that it might be easier to let
Richie vent and blow off steam for the moment. Anything more might make
things worse for the moment.
Richie eventually came out of his room to eat the now cold pizza, though
he didn't say a word as he did so. He just kept looking at the door
with a haunted look, thinking about how humiliating it would be to go
out in public with his new body. He paled at the thought, knowing that
he could never do that. There was no way he could let other
people...especially not his friends see him like that.
"You know," Adam said quietly once he had Richie and Elayne both
present. "This is a very unusual situation..."
"No shit," Elayne snapped.
"Watch your language," Adam warned her more out of reflex than anything.
Then he gave her a gentle smile. "I can't even imagine how difficult
this is for both of you..."
"It sucks," Richie said with a deep grimace. He looked down at himself
and the protrusions from his chest, wincing even more visibly.
Adam nodded knowingly, trying to maintain a calm and professional
demeanor. "I've never heard of such a thing as this happening before so
there is no precedent. You two are in a unique situation that has no
real solution."
"Maybe a doctor can help us," Elayne said hopefully. "There's got to be
someone who can switch us back..."
"Are you crazy?" Richie stared at his mom. "If we told anyone they'd
just lock us up..."
"I'm afraid Richie is right," Adam gently told Elayne. "You'd both be
institutionalized at best. And even if you were able to convince people
as to who you really were you'd only end up as medical oddities for the
rest of your lives."
"Maybe we can find a way to reverse it ourselves," Elayne blurted out,
staring at Adam with pleading eyes as if begging for him to offer her
hope.
Adam was tempted to tell her what she wanted to hear, that they'd find a
way back to normal before long. However he couldn't bring himself to
lie to her when she needed to accept the truth.
"The odds of you both getting struck by lightning were slim to say the
least," Adam said carefully. "Having your minds switched like this was
a billion times less likely than that even. The truth is, we all know
it's virtually impossible. We have absolutely no idea how it really
happened or how to reverse it..."
"But..." Elayne tried one more time.
"Even if we were to find some way of getting you both struck by
lightning again," Adam gave her a steady stare, "it would probably only
kill you both instead of switching you back. As much as we might not
like it, I think we have to assume that this is permanent..."
"NO!" Elayne cried out, crushed at having her worst fears confirmed. "I
can't be like this..." She jumped to her feet and ran to her room,
slamming the door behind her.
Richie remained where he was, staring at his hands in shock as he tried
to absorb what Adam had said. He'd already known that they weren't
likely to just change back, but the idea of being stuck like that
forever... He couldn't imagine it. He couldn't...
Adam felt guilty as he watched Richie and Elayne's reactions, but he
knew that it had to be done. They couldn't start to adjust to their new
bodies and lives until they'd come to accept that they had no choice.
At the same time, Adam couldn't help but thinking about how fascinating
this was. The more he thought about Elayne and Richie being stuck as
each other, the more curious he became. His mind raced with
possibilities and intrigue.
"I have to help them," Adam reminded himself, thinking about how they
were both in shock and getting worse. "They're both freaking out...
They're both on the verge of nervous break downs..." He could clearly
imagine the downward slide of psychosis that the two of them could face
if they didn't start to accept their situation deal with it.
As difficult as this would be for everyone involved, Elayne and Richie
would have to start adapting. It wouldn't be easy, but it would be
necessary for their own mental stability and well being.
"I can help them adjust," Adam mused, a small part of him getting
excited at the prospect. "It's for their own good..."
Adam considered his options for awhile before deciding on the one that
he thought might be the fasted and most effective. Normally he'd never
consider doing something like this, but this was a unique situation that
demanded somewhat more drastic methods.
With that Adam went to his briefcase and pulled out a small bottle of
liquid. He stared at it for several seconds before taking it to the
kitchen where he carefully measured two doses. A few minutes later he
left the kitchen with two glasses of juice.
Adam waited over half an hour after he'd given Elayne and Richie the
glasses of drugged juice, then he began to make his move. He went to
where Elayne was still hiding herself away and stared at her for a
moment. She was nearly motionless, sitting there with a completely
dazed look on her face. She didn't even seem to notice his presence
which was just the way it should be.
"I'm sorry that I have to do this," Adam whispered, "but it should help
take the edge off your nervous breakdown..."
Adam stood beside Elayne, thinking of the drug that he'd just given her.
It was a recent breakthrough in the arena of hypnotherapy. It helped to
lower a persons mental blocks and open them up to suggestion. And at
the moment a few suggestions were what Elayne and Richie really needed.
They might not listen to him, but they wouldn't be able to ignore the
little whisper in the back of their own minds.
"Elayne," Adam whispered to her so she could hear him, "can you hear
me?"
"Yes..." Elayne mumbled. He might not have been able to make it out if
he hadn't been listening for it.
Going slowly at first, Adam began to prepare Elayne for the suggestions
he wanted to implant. Once he was certain she was ready, he began to
give the instructions.
"This body isn't so bad," he told her, making sure to phrase it so she
might accept it as her own thoughts. "After all I'm still human. I
still have two arms and two legs. It's not really all that different.
In fact it feels kind of good to be young and healthy. This isn't
really all that bad..."
Adam repeated this twice more before leaving Elayne to go tend to
Richie. The drug would only leave them susceptible for a short time and
he wanted to make sure that he took advantage of it while he could. He
found Richie hiding out in his own bedroom, looking just as dazed and
out of it as Elayne.
Once Adam had prepared Richie with a few comments, he began to give
nearly the same suggestions that he had to Elayne. "This body isn't so
bad," he told Richie. "After all I'm still human. I still have two
arms and two legs. It's not really all that different. In fact it's
kind of neat having an adult body. This isn't really all that bad..."
Adam repeated these lines several times and was about to leave when he
remembered another problem that he might be able to help resolve.
"Maybe I should wear clothes that fit my new body. There's nothing
wrong with wearing girl clothes if you have a girl body. It only makes
sense to wear clothes that fit right..."
When Adam was finished, he turned and left the room with a mixture of
feelings. He felt guilty for performing this kind of therapy on Richie
and Elayne without their knowledge or permission, but he was also
pleased at being able to help them. After all he'd only been doing it
for their own good. His actions may prevent them from going over the
edge as they were about to do.
Then Adam sighed to himself, "I just hope my little adjustments actually
help."
Part 7
Richie stood in the bathroom and was about to climb into bath tub to
take his morning shower. He hesitated just a moment to look at his
reflection in the mirror, shaking his head as he did so. Only then did
he finally step into the shower.
A slight moan escaped Richie's lips in spite of himself. The water hot
water felt good coming down against his skin, almost like it was giving
him a massage. It felt especially good against his new breasts and
nipples. He enjoyed the sensations for a few minutes before he began to
wash, taking his time and going over every inch of his new skin. He
carefully examined his new body was a nervous curiosity at the same
time.
"This isn't so bad," Richie finally told himself, feeling a little more
relaxed. After all it wasn't like he'd just turned into an alien or
something like that. "It's not really all THAT different..."
He looked himself over as he washed, reminding himself that he still had
two arms and two legs. He was still human. And his mom had never
seemed to have any problems with her body, other than occasionally
complaining about a new wrinkle or needing to lose a few pounds. And
personally he'd never noticed any of those problems with her body even
now that he was in it.
"Mom is kind of pretty," Richie thought to himself, "I just don't want
to be her..."
Still, he had to admit that it was actually kind of neat to be in her
body. Sure, it was weird as hell...but he couldn't help but thinking of
all the things he could do with her body. He could go to R rated
movies, buy beer, and generally have people treat him like a grown up
instead of some kid.
Richie considered the things he could do with his new body which only
made him feel better about being stuck in it. However, his mood crashed
as he began remembering all the things he could no longer do. He
couldn't go play with his friends like this. He couldn't run around the
beach with just his shorts on and no top. And he couldn't go to school.
"Maybe I should consider no school as one of the good things," he told
himself with a faint chuckle.
After Richie finally climbed out of the shower, he slowly dried himself
off while still thinking about things. Now that he wasn't as shocked
and shaken up as he had been yesterday, he was finally able to think
about what this might mean. It was a lot to think about and a lot to
absorb.
Once he was done drying off, Richie decided that it was time to get
dressed. He looked at his mom's bathrobe and decided that he'd have to
put on some real clothes. He scowled, realizing that he certainly
couldn't wear anything of his own. That only left one choice.
"I have to wear mom's clothes," Richie scowled, not at all happy with
the idea. But at the same time it no longer seemed like such a big
deal. After all he had his mom's body, so it made sense to wear her
clothes. "And it's not like anything else will fit me."
Richie sighed and put his mom's bath robe on again. He left the
bathroom, stopping at the door to her room then went in search of her.
He found his mom in the kitchen pouring herself a cup of hot coffee. It
seemed strange watching her do something like that in his body, but at
least she wasn't about to break into tears or freak out like she had
been. She somehow seemed a little calmer about being in his body.
"Can I...?" Richie started hesitantly, unable to look his mom in the eye
as he asked, "Can I borrow some of your clothes?"
"Of course," she responded almost immediately. He knew that she
couldn't very well say no when she was wearing his clothes at the
moment. "Let's go find you something..."
Just then Richie noticed Adam standing in the kitchen doorway. He was
watching this exchange with a strange look on his face, almost as though
he was happy. In fact he almost looked as though he was fighting back a
smirk.
Elayne stared to take a sip of her coffee but Adam was suddenly there
pulling the coffee from her hands. "You know you shouldn't..."
"What?" Elayne demanded, beginning to get angry.
"You wouldn't allow Richie to drink coffee at that age," Adam pointed
out calmly, "and that is his body you're in..."
"But," Elayne stared to protest.
However Adam forced a smile. "Besides...you hardly need any caffeine in
that body. It's probably got more than enough energy as it is..."
Elayne hesitated for a moment before admitting, "I do feel pretty
energetic..." She smiled, rather enjoying the feeling.
"Well I certainly don't think you need caffeine to make you hyper then,"
Adam pointed out, taking a sip from the cup himself. Then he looked
back to Richie. "Besides weren't you two going to do something about
clothes?"
Elayne nodded and led Richie back to her room. "The first thing you're
going to have to do is dry your hair." She glared at him. "I'm not
about to let you get it all tangled with split ends."
"I did dry it," Richie protested, thinking that he'd always used a towel
before without any problem.
"You need to use a hair dryer to get it dry," Elayne responded in
annoyance. She grabbed the hair dryer and began to run it over Richie's
hair. "Like this..."
Richie reluctantly sat in a chair while his mom dried his hair and ran a
brush through it. He grimaced when his scalp got hot or his mom pulled
too hard, but he refused to say anything in complaint. However he did
wish that he'd kept quiet about needing some of her clothes and had just
helped himself to her dresser the way she had his.
Once Richie's hair was dry enough, his mom began to pull out clothes for
him and set them on the bed. "A pair of slacks should do for you," she
told Richie, chuckling, "I don't think you'll want the pantyhose..."
"I just want to get dressed." Richie rolled his eyes, wondering why she
was making such a big deal about it.
A few minutes later Richie was getting dressed in a pair of panties. He
felt awkward for putting on his mom's underwear, then reminded himself
that since he had a girl body it only made sense to wear girl underwear.
That was followed by the bra that was even more awkward, though he
didn't complain as he put it on.
"I have a girls body so it only makes sense to wear the stuff a girl
would," Richie tried to convince himself.
The rest of the clothes were much less problem, consisting mostly of a
pair of slacks and a nice blouse. He scarcely even noticed that there
was a pink kitten on the front of the shirt his mom had picked out.
After all his mom wore that shirt all the time so there was nothing
unusual about it being worn on the same body.
"Not too bad," Richie commented as he checked himself out in the mirror,
amazed at how much more he now looked like his mom. The only things
missing were her jewelry and makeup and he had absolutely no intention
of touching that stuff. "No way..." He shuddered at the very idea.
Richie eventually returned to the living room, fully dressed and feeling
much better because of it. He only wondered why he'd been so reluctant
to get dressed before this. After all it was just clothes. The fact
that his mom normally wore them only meant that they were better suited
for his current body.
When Richie returned to the living room, Adam watched him in
fascination. Just yesterday he'd refused to wear any girl clothes at
all, but now he seemed to have absolutely no problem with it. In fact
Adam suspected that Richie would even have put on a dress without
complaint if it had been offered.
"Incredible," Adam mused to himself thoughtfully.
Adam shook his head, amazed at just how much Richie and Elayne had
changed overnight. Their attitudes had both changed dramatically.
They'd gone from being in shock and on the edge of panic to being calm
and beginning to adjust.
"I never imagined it working this well," Adam mused, thinking about he
drug he'd used on them. He'd never heard of it being this effective in
a single treatment. Never.
Adam was burning with curiosity about how a single treatment could
effect Elayne and Richie so drastically. He couldn't stop thinking
about it and ran it over in his mind for the next hour before he finally
came to a conclusion. It had to be because they'd switched bodies.
"Their subconscious minds must still be off balance," Adam thought
aloud, "their normal mental defenses are shaken up and easier to
penetrate... That must be it..."
Adam became excited as he considered this and what it would mean.
Elayne and Richie were currently very susceptible to suggestions if
properly applied. Who knew how long that would last though. Eventually
their subconscious minds would adjust and their defenses would return.
There was a limited window of opportunity to take advantage of this
realization. His mind filled with eagerness and curiosity as he
considered this opportunity, then he shoved that aside with the reminder
that these were not test subjects.
"I'm just going to help them adjust," Adam told himself with a hint too
much excitement in his voice. "That's all...
Part 8
Elayne frowned as she walked through the house, feeling more than a
little annoyed. Her new body no longer felt all alien and freaky, at
least not enough to bother her much. After all there were far more
similarities between it and her old one than there were differences.
However there were a lot of other problems that came along with the new
body that she couldn't stop thinking about.
For one, Elayne couldn't wear any of her own clothes. Her entire
wardrobe was now entirely inappropriate and ill fitting. Nothing she
owned would go with Richie's body and she especially mourned all her
nice shoes. And after the way Richie had freaked out yesterday, she
knew that she had better not get caught even trying any of her own
things on.
Elayne was
