Chapter 1: A Change of things
One moment I was riding in my parent's minivan with my friend Yumi and
her parents. My parents are doctors, and not just any doctors but the
best doctors in the area. And me. I was Alan Wilson sixteen year old
son... at least last time I was awake I was. As we were riding there
was an accident. The status of my parents and friend and her parents
are still unknown to me. I can hear small beeps of the machines around
me making sure everyone around the hospital knows I'm still alive.
There is a strange weight in various places of my body. There is also
as tickling sensation on my neck but of course I just brush it off.
There are of course more important things to worry about.
"Well good morning sweet heart," said a familiar voice.
Slowly I open my eyes and I see a woman. My Aunt... well not by blood
but we know each other well enough that she lets me call her my aunt.
Whenever my parents needed to work late, which happened a lot, and of
course with my new abilities discovered recently she's been there to
help me and my friends.
"How ya feeling?" asked Aunt Julie.
"Strange," I said. My voice sounded very high and defiantly feminine.
My expression grew scared and Aunt Julie saw that.
"Sweet heart I'm not going to lie to you there was an accident and you
were badly hurt. Your parents were killed and you were in such bad
condition that we had to use the program your parents set up. So you
and Yumi were entered into the Replacement program. Did your parents
explain their program to you?" asked Aunt Julie.
I shook my head no. basically my parents barely told me any of their
programs in the hospital. What use would it be? My parents really
didn't want me knowing any real programs that happened in the hospital.
"Well the programs works like this. We get requests from couples who
are unable to become pregnant. We take some of their DNA and combine it
with subjects. You and Yumi are the first to be entered into this
process. The subject's ages are randomized from year 1 to at least 17.
So you are not still sixteen. Your are about thirteen," said Aunt
Julie.
"What about my voice?" I asked.
"Again couples put in requests and we facilitate those requests. The
only couple on the list were the Walker's. They wanted two girls, they
were hoping for twins but Yumi's transition didn't go completely with
their plan," said Aunt Julie.
"But what about her parents? You can't put people who have parents into
the program right?" I asked. I was concerned that she was taken from
her parents.
"Yumi's parents died in the accident. I'm sorry. And the reason your
voice is the way it is is because you are now Yumi's older sister,"
said Aunt Julie.
"W...what?" I asked. Now I started to get worried.
"You are no longer Alan Wilson. You are Alice Walker you are twelve and
a young girl. You see the DNA combination process is simple. The new
DNA combines with your DNA and alters it to be as we specify. So you
take on traits of the couple's DNA yet retain a few features from your
previous life. Your body thinks it's a twelve year old girl so it will
feel normal to act the way your body feels. You will experience life in
a brand new light. And now we are blood relatives. Your new mom is my
little sister," said Aunt Julie.
"Alice...... So this is the name these new parents have given me?" I
asked trying not to cry.
"Yes, they've been in here a few times and visited with you. Yumi was
released several days ago. Her name now is Erica. It's kinda funny that
she's going to be helping you instead of the other way around," said
Aunt Julie.
I couldn't help but smile. It seemed like only yesterday when me and
Yumi had discovered our powers. Her power to manipulate and create fire
and mine to manipulate and create Ice. I was teaching her to control
her powers and now she'd be teaching me how to act.
"What about my um..." I started.
"Your powers are still there, though they'll have to show themselves
again. It might be different to learn to control them again. You'll
have a good life, with your parents gone you need to fill that void,"
said Aunt Julie.
"So they've seen me a couple of times?" I asked. I was still very
nervous about this whole thing.
"Yes, I believe they said you looked like an angle while you slept,"
said Aunt Julie.
"What about Yumi?" I asked.
"Erica commented the same way. You must remember she is Erica now,"
said Aunt Julie.
"So you're now my aunt?" I asked.
"That's right sweet heart. Now I get to visit whenever I want," said
Aunt Julie.
"That could be nice," I replied.
"It will be sweet heart. Now in a few minutes your new family will be
here. I'll let Erica come in first and bring in some clothes for you.
Then I'll let your mom in then finally your dad and I will enter. It'll
give you time to talk," said Aunt Julie.
"So I'm able to go home today?" I asked.
"Of course sweet heart. Your condition is stable and there is nothing
else left for us to do to you. You are fully a twelve year old girl and
a cutie pie at that," said Aunt Julie.
"So can I still come visit you here? Do the people in the hospital
know?" I asked.
"some do. The ones you've spent the most times with. Gloria the head
nurse knows. In fact she's the one who has been with you through the
whole process," said Aunt Julie.
There was a soft knock on the door. Aunt Julie walked to the door and
walked out of the room. After a few moments a girl of about eight
walked into the room carrying a bag. She had light brown hair and had
green eyes. She wore a sundress with pink flowers on it. She wore white
sandals.
"Hi!" exclaimed the girl.
"Um, hello," I replied.
The girl skipped over to the bed and looked me in the eyes. She smiled
and started to giggle.
"You're my sister!" she said.
"Yumi?" I asked.
"Not any more. I'm Erica," she replied. She said Erica in several
syllables to emphasize her name.
"Okay Erica." I replied.
"So Alice ready for mommy?" asked Erica.
"I...I don't know. I'm kinda scared," I said.
"Aw, but mommy is nice. I like her. Come on. Stand up please?" asked
Erica.
Slowly I got out of the bed. I had to adjust the hospital gown so there
were no wrinkles.
"hey! It's pink, I like pink!" said Erica.
I couldn't help but blush, I didn't know why I blushed I just did. I
had to suspect that I subconsciously liked looking good, especially in
front of my little sister.
"are you still scared?" asked Erica.
"Kinda. I don't know what to expect from this new mom and dad," I said
feeling tears starting to form.
Erica walked up to me and hugged me tightly. I wrapped my arms around
her in a hug. This made me feel so much better so I stayed like this
for quite some time. I guess I was so absorbed in our embrace that I
didn't hear someone else enter the room.
"Aw, my little girls. That is so sweet," said a female voice.
Erica broke away from the hug and ran to the woman. The woman was in
her thirties and had light brown hair. She had Erica's green eyes. She
wore a black skirt and a white top. She held a woman's suit jacket in
her arms. She wore black 2 inch high heels with nude pantyhose.
"Mommy, mommy she's awake!" said Erica in an excited fashion.
"I see that honey. How are you feeling Alice?" asked the woman.
I sat there for a few moments before I realized she was talking to me.
At that point I was embarrassed.
"Fine," I finally said.
"that's good. My name is Amy Walker, but you just call me mom or
mommy," said the woman.
"um, okay," I said.
"Now let's get you dressed sweet heart," said Amy.
