Chad told Evelynn that he's sorry for how he treated her when she was Adam, and he admitted that he left for the surfing tourney just to be away from her. Being the dork that he is, Keith initially ruined the moment and Tamara got seriously angry on him... she didn't want to speak to him for two days! With some much needed help from Evelynn though, Keith slowly managed to right his wrongs with Tammy and to win her trust once more. Evelynn suggested to him that, with her knowing Tamara pretty well, she would really appreciate it if he was the one to make a first move, so Keith gathered his courage and actually asked her out on a real first date! Luckily she accepted and the date turned out to be the first of a series of other, equally successful dates! Tammy still didn't officially want to say she's going steady with Keith, but she seems happy when she's with him and Keith is even moreso! They spend a lot of time together too, at work and then they go out almost every evening, Tamara and Keith are becoming quite the couple! So life for Evelynn had returned to much like it was before her short period spent as Adam. She was herself again, back together with Chad and she quit her job at the office. She feels content enough, although things are a bit boring, Chad is boring... she was excited to see him return from California, but now the excitement wore off, and she's beginning to get that feeling that she usually gets after a few months being with the same guy... "What did I even see in this guy in the first place, anyway?" This is what she's starting to think. Evelynn never actually made it to feel particularly attached to any guy, in the end they all get boring... she's not planning on breaking up with him though, at least not yet. Maybe in the meantime she'll meet some more interesting man? Well who knows, she's not going to look for this other man, that's for sure, if he happens to pop up she'll see... She's in no hurry to look for a new job either, she's getting kind of bored and lazy, and there it goes again, Evelynn's back to that unsatisfied feel her life typically always had. It's friday evening, and Evelynn is just returning home. She actually went to her first interview for a new job today! But it went bad... she tried applying as a secretary at another firm, but they downright rejected her, they didn't even give her the classic "We'll give you a call" line! Her day at the mall was quite fun and when she finally returned to the appartment, with three large full shopping bags, it was already dark outside. Tamara was waiting for her lying on the couch reading a book. She puts the book down as she hears Evelynn come in and she immediately spots the shopping bags. But there is not a single living soul in sight... who opened the doors then? The heavy silence is ruined only by the sound of Evelynn's high heels on the cobblestones, until they finally reach the entrance and they halt for a few moments in complete silence. "What the hell, the doors are already opened..." Evelynn speaks shortly after, her voice stressed. "Told you, I'm not liking this shit," Keith whispers to his friends. They go inside though, and Tamara was just telling the others to calm down and just relax, as she hears hurried footsteps coming down the wooden staircase in the middle of the hall. It was a maid, dressed in a classic black and white uniform. The blonde young woman smiled as she made it down the stairs and she made a sort of quick bow before Evelynn, Tamara and Keith. "Good evening, a-and welcome to the Gold manor. Sorry to keep you w- waiting, Mr. and Mrs. Gold are expecting you, in the dining room." She rushes to the front doors and closes them, then, looking quite tired, the maid made a gesture with her hand and said, "This way please, follow me!" Evelynn shrugged her shoulders and the three of them started walking through the creepily silent corridors, following the blonde maid. She seemed kind of dizzy and had some trouble in keeping straight on her feet, and she walked funny, hurried and continuously tripping over folds of the antique carpets. Even their freaking maid is a weirdo, Evelynn thought to herself. After quite a few twists and turns through the dimly lit hallways, the clumsy maid stopped at the tall double doors which lead into the dining room. She pushed the doors open with visible effort, revealing the somptuous room behind them. The dining room was quite large, richly decorated and featured an expensive looking piano in a corner, a very ample arched window on the back wall and in the center, the long dining table, filled with all sorts of delicacies and surrounded by throne like dining chairs. At the two opposite ends of the table, Vernon Gold and his wife Morganna were seated. "Ah! Morganna, our guests are here! Welcome to you all, we are both so glad you could join us!"Vernon Gold warmly exclaimed, inviting his guests to have a seat at their table. As she wanted to sit down, Evelynn was interrupted by the blonde maid who smiled at her and then lead her by the hand to a different chair... it was next to where Morganna was seated! Evelynn gulped and sat down trying not to look too freaked out, but the blasted creepy woman was looking at her with those weird eyes, as if expecting her to say something maybe. Evelynn made a quick awkward smile and tried talking. "Um, hi!... So uh, how's it going?..." Morganna didn't react in any way. "My dear friends!"Vernon began again, "Tonight we dine together, we share this food and drink with you, as you three brought entertainment to us. In her mind, Tamara was now convinced this man was completely and utterly insane. Evelynn was now looking down into her plate, feeling her heart beating fast. Keith's scientific mind could not possibly take this fool's words seriously, he couldn't help himself and let out a loud laugh. When he laughed, Morganna suddenly laughed as well, her voice strident and startling. The candlestick at the center of the dining table sparked a green eerie flame in an instant and Keith immediately ceased to laugh. He and Evelynn both exclaimed a scared "What the fuck!" and then their eyes jumped back at Vernon Gold. "What, what was that?" Tammy asks confused. "How did that candle light itself like that? Is it really magic? Can it be?" "Why is it so difficult to believe?" Gold asks warmly. "No way, man, come on you don't seriously expect to fool me..." Keith says. "Magic doesn't exist, this was some trick." "My friend, you are very convinced of your limited views of existance, I understand your reaction, but you know only a fool deems impossible that which he does not know. I assure you this was no illusion. I shall tell you more. I know that you have said before to your friends that you had visited my mansion one year in the past, and that it was but an abandoned ruin. Evelynn, Keith and Tammy look in its direction and observe the dimly lit garden outside and the starry night sky. Well, nothng unusual yet. But wait, something is happening! The night suddenly turns to morning, then full daylight, then even faster transitions to evening and night again. The wilted autumn hedges and the trees go through rapid changes as well, passing through all the seasons in a matter of a few seconds! The unnatural process repeats itself a couple more times and then everything returns to normality and stops changing. The starry night sky and the autumn garden are back to the way they were and Vernon's guests turn towards him all three with their jaws dropped. The Wizard smiles satisfied and with a wave of his bony hand he raises the bottle of fine wine from the table and into the air. The bottle flies by itself as if posessed and pours wine into the glasses of everyone. "Do you believe now? A toast my dear friends! To Magic, and most importantly, to you!" Gold says excited. They raise their glasses to his toast and take a deep sip in silence. None of them could believe what just happened. There was no denying it anymore though, magic existed. Magic! A thought occured to Keith and he spoke: "Mister Gold... There is no doubt anymore, as hard as it is to accept, magic actually exists... I can barely wrap my mind around it, the implications are... oh man! No, shit this must be a dream!" "This is no dream my friend and no trick I assure you. And please, call me Vernon!" "If... They continue to drink and talk about strange things late into the night, and Evelynn and her friends can't really shake off the thought that all of this strange evening was in reality only a dream, or that they saw things because of the wine they drank. When the food and drink were finally over, and Evelynn and friends were preparing to leave, Vernon Gold was saying his goodbyes to Keith and Tamara and also handing them the promised sum of money, when Evelynn felt someone taking her hand in their own. She turned her head and big surprise, it was Morganna. The woman dragged her to the other end of the room and then spoke to her in whispers, as if wanting to keep the others from hearing her: "My dear. I have a special gift for you." She takes out a small white box and hands it to an intrigued Evelynn. The young woman cautiously opens the box and sees that inside there is a simple ring. It's pure black and has only a few strange yellow markings on it. Evelynn takes the ring and is intended to try it on her finger but Morganna's hand quickly stops her. "No my dear. Not now. This is my gift to you. I have seen into the depths of your mind and soul, Evelynn, and I know your darker thoughts. I know you are frustrated, unsatisfied by your life and I've seen hidden desires you have that you don't even dare to ponder. I have seen in the depths of your mind that which was born not long ago, by accident. That which may have bloomed into something great if it only had a chance.
