tried replying to her in words but then my aunt and my mother ganged up

started crying.
Looking at me crying, my aunt said, "Oh look at this 'man of the family'
crying like a little girl."
I said, "If I hit you, you will cry too!"
The situation was heating up and with the growing pitch of all our
voices, my cousin sister woke up too. Her name is Namrata. When she came
out my mother said "Look Namrata, he's crying like a little girl."
I felt insulted, they were calling me a girl. How can someone call a 26
year old guy a girl? My male chauvinist ego was hurt and I replied back
to my sister yelling "Go inside your room and sleep, this is none of your
freaking business."
By this time, my mother and aunt could figure out what made me more
angry. It was the whole "crying like a girl" thing. So they started
teasing me even more by calling me a girl again and again. I got real
angry this time and threw a plate at the wall, breaking it.
I think that was the last straw. My mother and aunt were already very
unhappy with my behavior around the house and this broke their patience.
My aunt whispered something in my sister's ears and Namrata went inside

Bangles are the symbol of femininity in India. It is a belief that anyone
who wears bangles cannot be a man. Seeing those bangles in her hand, I
was terrified. My aunt said, "Since you cry like a girl, you will be a

I looked at my mother with utter helplessness and with my crying face
said, "Mother please, don't make me wear bangles. I am sorry please don't
do this to me."

Mother said.

humiliating experience, my mother asked my sister to put those on me. And

because of the intense humiliation. Aunt then got her phone from her room

The indian culture is very male chauvinist and I was raised in that
culture. Ever since my childhood, at my schools, in my classes, I was

lesser than us men. So when I saw the kurta, my instant reply was a no!
obviously I was not going to wear girl's clothes, why would I? I am a
man, a 26 year old guy. I completely rejected their idea of me wearing

clear. In no unequivocal terms I told my mother that I am never ever
going to wear girl's clothes because they are demeaning. In the heat of
the moment I also told her that I am not going to do it no matter what.

This was the end of everything for me. After that incident, my manhood
