Academy Stars, the Evaluation Continues

"Ok everyone look alive, we're heading to Eclipse One," called out
Commander Howell. It had been two days since the incident, and everyone
was getting edgy just sitting here.
"Warming up the phase Jumper," called out Randi at the driver station.
"Power levels, full and in the green across the board. Fuel Cells Full,"
he reported.
"Roger, Captain Pierce, deploy your FAV's," called out Gretchen as the
Transport began to move.
"Deploying FAVs," called out Erika. "Cross linking FAV Signals with TIGA
Star." "Lieutenant Freeze, show us what's waiting for us." The FAVs had
an invisible Atmospheric shield that contained the atmosphere between
portals and when none was available on a planet's surface, it also
doubled as a Battle Shield.
The three person crews were in the FAV's ready, as the deployment arms
slid out to the sides and they dropped to the roadway, already in forward
motion. Now they shot out ahead of IMA Star headed for the portal and
what we understood was the Gunnery Target Range.
Our laser and Ion Canon blasts would only go a thousand meters beyond the
targeted range before dissipating. Something we were happy to know,
especially when it came to the Dragons Breath. Our personal power weapons
had a shot range inhibitor as well. They were limited to one hundred
meters beyond the estimated target.
Eclipse One was a host to the Holo-Drone Opposing Forces, or HD OpFor.
The HD OpFor's were Automatic as well as Random, and controlled by the
Satellite Network.

A Tracker ship had salvaged a portion of the Swarm Ships Central Memory
Banks, and it was now being examined electronically with the help of the
four Tanks available.
"What are you looking for?" asked Copa.
"I am trying to find out what this ships last mission was prior to being
captured by the Skecksies," answered Lars. "Even if the Skecksies erased
the Primary Drive Computers, this is the Memory Core for the Entire Ship
and every Hunter that was assigned to her."
"So far, we are only finding Skecksies Data," pointed out Sindee. "This
stuff is almost five years old now."
Lars input the date that the messages had been flashed to the fleets
identifying him as the Queens Assassin.
"Holy crap," breathed Copa and Sindee together as new Data began to
stream across their screens.
'Strangle Hold', had been tasked with tracking down Lt Lars Grendel,
formerly of the Seventh Squadron of Royal Guardians, and everyone who had
ever known him. But it was the bounty offered for his return, dead or
alive, to Draco Four, One Hundred Billion Draco Credits. There was
another portion that was scrambled though.
And there was a list of those whom the ship had tracked down, and another
of those they had been tracking who had been following him, fleeing
themselves from being executed for just knowing him, one of those listed
was Mistress Livia Stylz.
"I barely knew most of those people," he said. "A great many I had only
been in the Cub Academy with." Then he saw three names. Three people whom
he had told which direction he was going. There had originally been five,
but two were marked as eliminated.
Could Frag, Zirin and Chewbi still be out there? His fingers flew across
the keyboard now, pulling up the tracking data. They had been heading
this way, covering the trail of Mistress Livia Stylz and Mistress Feelah,
her daughter and several other Mistresses from the Academy, and helping
people to escape.
He doubted that anyone knew those three remaining Guardians of the Queens
Squadron had helped him to gain access to the Queen. Of course, if anyone
could have tracked him across the stars, they could have. And it looked
like they had done just that, at least up until this ship had been
captured.
"Excuse me Lars Grendel, we wish to make an alteration before anyone else
sees this data," stated Sindee.
"What? Why?" he asked, trying to figure out which data they wanted to
alter.
"You are a good person, no one needs to know of the bounty," stated Copa.
The other three nodded their agreement even as Copa began Deleting that
information.
"Something that large would always remain as a temptation were it to be
left, even in secure files," Stated Andorra Nikkei. "And our Queen needs
you in her life."
"Yes, and the Skecksies were following your friends," said Sindee. "We
will find them if they are still to be found." Everyone around him now
expressed their agreement.
"Now my friend, you need to return to your Queen before she decides to
come looking for you," Otru clapped him on the back. "We will continue
the search for you."
After he had left Sindee had some luck with the scrambled portion.
Apparently, they were also searching for a Draco Princess, believed to
possibly be with Lars Grendel. And King Dread had ordered that no harm
come to her, but she was to be returned to Draco Four the moment she was
found.
"Copa, could it be that Kailee Volt, is alive?" she asked.

IMA and TIGA Star were racing for the Eclipse One portal, the four FAVs
out front scouting the terrain ahead. DIGA and LIGA were doing the same,
only they intended to enter from the Eclipse Three portal, the same
portal that Nightmare had used to get here.
"Talk to me FAV-1," said Erika as she watched their forward view screen
the second they were through the portal.
"Lots of scrub brush and rolling hills," reported Daniel.
"Hostiles on our seven and five," called out Sgt Deek. They'd come up
from the area beside the portal, putting them behind anyone entering the
planet.
Both gunners swung around, the M-90's chattering away as they each took a
pair of targets. TIGA's FAVs opened up as they cleared the portal,
engaging the targets from behind just as IFAV 2 took a hit to their right
front wheel.
The FAV stopped all forward motion as the wheels locked up, simulating
the hit. More airborne targets were coming in fast, as both Transports
exited the portal one behind the other. All guns blazing, as they began
picking off the targets even before those targets got within range to use
their own shorter range weapons.
Suddenly five minutes later, all was quiet. Morriss, in TFAV One was
listed as the only casualty for TIGA. But IFAV2 was listed as a Simulated
Combat Loss, meaning not just the FAV but the crew as well were out of
the game for twelve hours. No weapons they touched would operate during
that time.
IFAV2 was recovered and would not redeploy before the twelve hours was
up.
"I want everyone to stay sharp," called out Randi.
"Talk to me Randi, do you think there are more targets this close?" asked
Gretchen.
"Commander there were sixty targets that responded within five minutes.
That means something drew them in," he reasoned.
"Yeah and they all came from the same direction," stated Noel as he
scanned on full with a hover drone, trying to see what was in the
direction they had come from.
"Are those heat signatures?" asked Judi Bencic a few moments later.
"Yes," said Noel. "Are they simulated Targets?"
"Deploying Combat Drones," called out Erika.
"Hey, I just lost my Drone," said Noel.
"What?" I asked. "A target took it out?"
"Negative, I was going in for a closer look and something clobbered it."
"Uhhh, Commander, I have two Hunter Scouts down in that draw. No, make
that three," called out Erika.
Felisha called out, "Those are not Skecksies. And they aren't friendly
either." She was dodging her drone, darting in and out as the people on
the ground threw rocks and sticks at it.
"Looks like the Target Drones were working them over," said Erika. "Pull
your Drones back out of range and watch for more of those Targets."
"IMA, we're going in to investigate," called Scarlet.
"Be careful TIGA, those ships have real holes in them," reported Erika as
she reviewed the scan data from the drones. They were reading the blast
residue traces of other Hunter Scouts.
'ATTENTION ALL SIMULATIONS HAVE BEEN DEACTIVATED,' came the announcement
from the Satellite Network.
"Talk to us Stars, what do you have?" requested Reaper.
"Three downed Hunter Scouts in a draw, approximately twenty to thirty
personnel scattered around them, throwing rocks and sticks at our
Drones," reported Commander Howell.
"Those are not simulations," announced Dessie. "The Network doesn't have
Draco Ships logged into the Simulators. Proceed with caution."
TIGA deployed her Hover Bikes to support her FAVs as they picked their
way slowly across the terrain. IMA followed at a distance close enough
for support if needed, but able to watch the surrounding areas.

Reaper, Nightmare and the other two Stars were racing to get there now.
Bondage and Werewolf on an outer planet made an emergency jump.
"Hunter, I have a downed Hunter," called DIGA Star as they cleared the
portal ahead of LIGA Star.
"Commander Ponder, we have five Humanoid heat signatures in the draw up
ahead," reported Della.
"DIGA is slowing to attempt contact. Deploying all Drones," directed
Terrence.
"Commander, we have four adults and one child. All female," finished
Della.
"Get your rescue teams ready," ordered Terrence. "But remember, they
don't know who we are."
"DIGA, we are using the satellites. There looks to be several graves to
the west side of that Hunter," called out Scarlet. "Hold up I have an ID
Marking on that Hunter."
She flashed it to everyone on the planet and those responding. It was a
Golden Dragon with a 'I' imposed on it.
"I've seen a similar Emblem like that," stated Otru. "If I am not
mistaken that Hunter belongs to the First Squadron of the Draco Royal
Guardians."
"Reaper we have that same Marking on these Hunters," said Maleeza.
"Hey, try asking to speak to Frag, Zirin or Chewbi. They were friends of
Lars Grendel," advised Copa.
Using their drones external speaker's they asked to speak to one of the
three names.
Slowly a woman stood up among the four closest to DIGA.
"I am Chewbi, but you are not from Draco, so how do you know my name?"
she demanded as Reaper pulled to a stop a little ahead of the two Academy
Stars.
Stepping out alone, Otru spoke out loudly enough to be heard, his voice
going over the speakers to the other Transports.
"Totalis Protectis Fini," he recognized the inscription under the Unit ID
on the downed ship. "That is the Pledge of royal Guardians of Draco
according to my friend, Lars Grendel."
Slowly two more figures stood up near the other three ships located by
IMA and TIGA. "I am Zirin, how do you know Lars Grendel?" "Did our other
ship survive to reach him?"
"Saniya, contact Lars. We need him here right away," Otru said loud
enough to be heard by those still taking cover.

"Your Majesty," Leonida interrupted Keeli and Lars reunion kiss. She was
still listening to something over the communication chip implanted behind
her ear. "Otru has located friends of Lars, they need him there right
away."
"T, Tiffy?" breathed Mistress Stylz. Her face was filled with hope. But
it was the look on Lars own face, the look that said this was someone he
would die for.
"Lars, I am going with you this time," stated Keeli feeling just a bit
jealous.
"Ma'am," questioned Leonida.
"It is my order Commander, I am going," Keeli put her foot down.
Leonida made a circling motion and the two squads moved in.
"You are not going alone," said Sabina as she stepped forward, the
Demonian First ringing the group. "Leonida, the location please?" she
requested as she reached out touching both the Guardian and Racer, her
own Chow.

The transports were busy passing out rations and water to everyone when
the air nearby shimmered. And then four dozen Gambichow's fanned out
around the new arrivals.
Holding Keeli's hand, Lars started towards the refugees. One very young
girl about seven years old started forward, "Daddy!" then suddenly she
stopped, "M, M, Mommy?"
She was running forward now, tears streaming from her eyes as she cried,
"Mommy, Daddy."
Lars wrapped his arms around the little girl who was still reaching for
Keeli too.
"Lars, we did our best to keep her safe," said the one identified as
Chewbi.
Finally, the girl managed to wrap her arms around Keeli's neck. "Mommy?
You, you aren't my Mommy." She let go to cling to Lars again.
"Tiffy, oh gods, I, they told me, oh god you're safe, you're really
safe," he had tears running down his cheeks.
The Guardians of the First Legion closed in around them, keeping everyone
else back.
"Lars, is this your Daughter? Yours and Kailee's?" asked Keeli gently.
"Yes, she, she was born in secret. Only a select few knew about her. But,
the Queen, Kailee's mother said that, that she had killed her even before
Kailee was murdered. She told Kailee just before she signaled the
execution," he said. "That was the only reason I left without her." he
was clinging to her just as much as the girl was clinging to him.
"Then she is a Princess of Draconia. If, if you will let me be a mother
to her," said Keeli.
"You look just like my Mommy," said Tiffy a few minutes later. "I, I
thought you were my Mommy."
"I'd like to be your Mommy, if you want me to be." Keeli felt her heart
melting for this little girl who had spent the last five or six years
fleeing for her life.
She looked at her father.
"Tiffy, Keeli is the Queen of Draconia. But you don't have to worry, none
of the queens here are mean like your grandmother," assured Lars.
"Lars, you know all of these people here?" asked Leonida.
"Yes, they are friends, and Guardians who also knew Kailee," he said.
"Then they are coming to Draconia," announced Keeli. "Tiffy should have
people around her that she knows and trusts."
"Lars," Frag got his attention. "We lost track of Mistress Stylz. They
made a blind jump ahead of us, I'm sorry."
"Frag, she and those with her are safe. They are on Demonia," Lars said.
"Leonida, have Cherrie meet us at Demonia with her ship and two more
diplomatic couriers," directed Keeli. "We need to get these people to
where they can rest and recover." She turned to Tiffy then, "And you
little one, need a nice warm bed and a glass of milk."
The medical officers had been busy seeing to everyone, now they were
waiting to see to Tiffy.
"Where my future husband and daughter go, I go," she said sternly.

"Wow, Keeli's barely sixteen and already she has a seven-year-old kid,"
grinned Erika. "Wait till Momma hears about this."
"Erika." I got her attention.
"Daddy, I'm happy for them," she said.
"And we are still on a Classified Mission that requires us to stay out of
contact with the rest of the Quadrants," he reminded everyone.
"Yes Sir," she threw him a salute. "She won't be hearing anything from
me." But still there was mischievous grin that said, 'Wait till Momma
finds out.'
It was difficult for Donnie to sit back and let Gretchen run the show,
even more so to watch his two daughters and Randi Shore as they commanded
the troops aboard. But he knew that he needed to let Gretchen handle this
new side to the Academy, he didn't want to spread himself too thin, take
on too much responsibility. And she was ready for it, as well as for her
silver oak leaf cluster of a Lt Col.
He'd watched as the 'Line Troops' learned to ride the Hover Bikes. He
even watched as the command crew were taught the basics in maintaining
the transport.

They'd been there on the planet, for weeks, fending off the drones,
unable to understand why they only stunned them. The Skecksies had done
so much damage to the ships, they had to make emergency landings on
Eclipse. But they knew that Strangle Hold had tracked them here to the
system where the Transports had found them, they told Lars and Keeli.
Now they were waiting for Cherrie and the other ships to arrive at
Demonia. Tiffy growing closer to Keeli by the minute. She had only been a
year old when her mother was executed.
Tiffy was asleep and Keeli decided to ask him more about her.
"Lars, why did you believe that she'd been killed too?"
"Dessinda, she was with Dessinda who was keeping her safe. But when
Dessinda was executed at the same time, and I heard her mother say that
she'd eliminated my child too," he couldn't finish.
"Lars," Chewbi said, "It was reported to the Queen that Dessinda was
pregnant before she was executed," Keeli was holding him tightly. She
felt his tears wetting her shoulder. He hadn't known that last detail,
he'd been too bent on revenge and justice for the innocent lives
destroyed.
He told Keeli everything about the events leading up to Tiffy's birth and
Kailee's execution.
Kailee was already in trouble with the Queen when she discovered she was
pregnant. She, Lars, Dessinda and six others, of the Seventh Squadron
went into hiding. They'd managed to stay hidden for almost two years,
until Kailee, in a fit of anger against her mother decided to publicly
oppose the new taxes requiring the citizens to pay a forty percent blood
tax.
Forty percent of each family's blood supply, whether Feeder Animals or
allotments of blood, were to be surrendered to the Government.
Four of the other guardians were killed as they tried to hold off the
five Squadrons sent in to capture them. But Dessinda had escaped with
Tiffy, along with two Guardians for protection. Chewbi had been the only
one he hadn't gotten hold of, he thought since they had Dessinda that
Chewbi had been killed also.

Over the next two weeks, the Stars completed their evaluations, scoring
higher than even the seasoned Transport Crews. More, they still had
nearly all of their starting fuel. An analysis of their consumption
revealed that it was the Dragons Breaths that had accounted for the most
of it. Requiring the TCF-13's to kick in generating more power to keep up
with the increase in demand. The Tanks and Kelvin's estimated that the
Stars had enough reserve power to operate another four Dragons Breaths on
each Star.
When linked together, those batteries increased their Maximum Fire Power
Output, (MFPO).
But even that increase in fuel consumption was deemed well within the
acceptable range. More, the onboard fuel converters had topped off the
fuel tanks without having to be refueled like the other Transports during
the exercises.

Kelvin Nine;
The Secure Facility had just received the order for ten more pairs of
Stars. But four of those were to be sent to the Academies, to become the
other half of the Transport Teams already assigned to them. The Academies
needed them to begin training the Crews that would be going out into the
unknown.
And to be effective, the crews needed to train together.
Jarda sat with Hob going over the power consumption readings, when Hob
leaned forward reaching for a pencil. "Jarda, check my figures," he
sounded excited.
The two were calling out numbers and abbreviations, working with so much
excitement they didn't notice as Teala entered the office. Reaching out
now she picked up a page.
"Debris shield strength ratios? These are off the charts," she exclaimed.
Then she saw the related power consumptions. The increased shield
strength coincided with the powering up of the Ion-5s and Dragons
Breaths.
"Jarda, we have to test this further," stated Hob. "Where is the report
from when they were attacked by the Hive Ship?"
"Here it is," Teala's hands were shaking, it was the first time those
systems had actually been powered up.
"The ship didn't miss," said Jarda. "See, the shield power strength
spikes each time. These are hits, not misses."
"Commander Demure, we need the Commanders of the Academy Stars in
conference right away," said Hob. "We've made a huge discovery that they
need to know about. It has to do with their debris shield generators."
"There is a problem in the debris shields?" worried Otru.
"No, not a problem, a breakthrough," stated Jarda.
"Tell me about it. They are gathering here, preparing to leave the
Training System."
"Hob, check this new Data Stream," said Teala.
A reading of IMA Star's Debris Shields streamed across the screen in full
view.
"When was that taken?" Otru asked.
"Commander, do they have their weapons systems powered up?" asked Teala.
"No, not now. But that looks like a Starships Force Shield reading."
"Otru my friend, that is IMA Stars current Debris Shield Strength. We
were analyzing the readings during the attack by that Swarm Ship. It
didn't miss them, it hit them, the shield used the bleed over power from
the weapons systems to absorb the hits and increase it's own strength."
They saw his eyes as he realized what would have happened if it had been
Reaper that had been hit by even one of those blasts.
"We need to find out if this is a fluke or if it is a result of the
combining of all the different technologies," confided Jarda. "And I hate
to say it, as strong as I feel about our own analysts, but the place to
do that is Tank Electronics on Iridani Five."
"They will be there," said Otru. "But I have to notify the Queens to meet
us in Conference. This is after all one of their pet projects." "Dessie,"
"Initiating a conference call now," she said.

It took fifteen minutes before everyone was linked into the video
conference.
"Mr Nimbus, I understand there may be a problem with the Stars," began
Tarriana.
"A Problem, no. A possible unexpected breakthrough, yes. But I should let
Hob and Teala explain it," he stated.
While it was just the Queens, and Supreme Commander Grealing at the other
end, everyone aboard the Transports involved was hearing the
conversation.
They needed to analyze the connections, see if it was something they
could duplicate again on the new ones they were building.
All the Academy Stars were being sent to Tank Electronics on Iridani.
"Commandants, please select your permanent Cadet Commanders, who will be
commanding each of the Stars. Your current Assistant Commandants will be
in overall command of the pair," stated Natani with a smile and wink. "We
will meet again during the after-action review on Iridani to brief them
on when to expect the second half of your Twin Stars."
Donnie had already made his decision, but he needed to talk to four of
them, and with Gretchen first. But he wasn't going to make the mistake of
keeping his wives in the dark about it.
