Niles Hyde took a huge breath as he looked at the jeans, cotton panties,

Niles then looked at the accessories he chose to go with his outfit,
black flats with a tiny bow at the throat of each shoe, a scrunchie for
his naturally curly hair, and a black clutch purse. He knew he would be
holding onto that purse as tight as a child held onto a teddy bear for
added security. The man who was taking a huge step into being who he
was wondered if what he picked was feminine enough.
He knew the time to get ready was now, or else he would never go. He
changed into the outfit and felt more at ease about going out in public
in it. It was just clothes. Then he sat at the makeshift vanity and
started to apply his makeup. The man who was as nervous as a child
going to their first day of kindergarten shook his head in disapproval
after seeing his makeup. It was done perfect, but was it right for
going out? Niles went for the everyday, going to the store makeup, but
tonight was about going out and hitting the town. It was too late to
change it, the time to do his hair was now or he would never go out.
Niles used his light pink scrunchie and bobby pins to get his hair just
how he liked it. He found that having most of his hair in the scrunchie
with some locks flowing down the side of his face so cute and adorable.
Then the man who was second guessing his second guesses wondered if his
look was right. It was too late, the time to leave was now or he would
never go out.
Right before Niles left, he put on his cat's eyes glasses. He never got
to wear them out before and right after putting them on made Niles not
care if he was under-dressed for his coming out party. He felt comfy
and safe, like Linus with his security blanket. Those glasses made
Niles feels so good that he was able to laugh at himself when he did the
last check in the mirror. He could not help but think he looked like
Leonard Hofstadter in drag.

The looks Niles got walking the half mile from his hotel to the club
gave a boost to his confidence like a parent's holding the hands of
their child. Most of the passersby gave a look of indifference to him,
just like he was another stranger. One lady did smile in approval,
Niles thought it was for the entire outfit. The woman did like the
entire outfit, but loved Niles' hairstyle.
Niles was not one who went to nightclubs, so he thought a 21:00 opening
meant people would be there promptly at 21:00. He walked into the club
and was the only patron. The only people there were the waitstaff of
two bartenders and the hostess, Janet, and her two assistants. The
doorman smiled when Niles paid the cover charge and said, "Girlfriend,
you will have a great time tonight." Those little words of
encouragement put Niles at ease. The coat check lady asked Niles if she
had anything to check in. The lady using the feminine pronoun made
Niles believe it was the right choice to go out tonight.
Niles went up to the bar and could not make a decision on what to order.
He wanted something to fit his feminine side, yet hated wine and mixed
drinks. He was from a blue collar family and his dad taught him that
one should taste the alcohol to know what they are drinking. The
metalhead loved that one of the guest ales was Iron Maiden's Trooper.
The bartender asked Niles what she wanted to drink, and to tell the
truth, the man who was feeling more feminine thought he needed nothing
to drink. Each time someone referred to him as she or her gave a better
buzz to him than any spirit ever did. Even if he does not speak to
anyone else for the rest of the night, Niles knew he made the right
decision on coming out in this outfit.
Finally, after a couple more minutes of being as indecisive as a child
picking their favorite ice cream, Niles finally asked what the others
girls drink. The bartender's answer was like a double shot of whiskey
to Niles' buzz, and also added the same amount of redness to his cheeks.
"They drink whatever they like sweetie."
"Oh, then I will have a pint of Trooper."
Niles went to a corner booth to sit down and just enjoy soaking up
feeling alive. After Janet got done checking everything was to her
liking and got confirmation the DJ was showing up, the hostess of the
gathering went over to check on the new girl. Niles got a smile as big
as a child watching their parent hang up their drawing on the fridge as
Janet came over. Niles was nervous about having an in depth
conversation with a stranger, but that was overridden by the joy of his
feminine side being seen by someone.
"Hiya Sweetie, I am Janet and you are?"
That simple question and you are stumped, Niles. Even with embracing
his feminine side in private, the man who was comfortable in panties
never gave her a name. He did not care about being judged, no one has

A little defensive, Niles gave his name.
Janet knew exactly how to handle the situation, she had to just about

Nell's shyness came back. The little time spent talking with Janet was
more social interaction Nell expected on having tonight. How well it
went put pressure on the introvert to try to top it. Nell smiled to
show her appreciation to the hostess's kind offer when she said, "Don't
worry about me, I will be doing fine."
Janet smiled back. "Nell hun, I am not worried. I want to see how you
are doing. It is great to see people shine and you will be glowing by
the end of the night."
As Janet left Nell's table, the newly christened Nell was feeling as
independent as a child left alone for the first time. The lady knew she
could handle anything the night had to offer by Janet's words. Nell
felt that glow Janet mentioned, and knew it would grow brighter as the
night went longer.

The night was still as young as Nell felt when a lady in a batwing black
dress, silver choker necklace, and hair pulled back in a ponytail came
walking towards her table. The approaching lady's outfit made Nell feel
like a child playing dress up. The lady who went for comfort felt that
she could have worn something more fitting for a nightclub. Instead of
her feeling under-dressed overwhelming her, Nell made the conscious
decision the next time she went to a club she would wear an outfit more
appropriate for the social occasion to fit in better.
The lady said, "Hi there my name is Barbara. Do you have an extra bobby
pin? I can feel some of my hair coming out of place!"
Nell started to panic. She also did not understand why she felt as
nervous as freshman girl talking to the homecoming queen senior at the
moment. For some reason, Nell felt her acceptance all depended on her
finding a bobby pin. The lady who was more concerned about impressing
than interacting frantically looked in her purse for her supply of bobby
pins. She was amazed how hard it was to find what she was looking for
in that little clutch. How could it be so hard? Her purse did not have
that much room. Nell thought the saying should be trying to find a
bobby pin in a clutch purse instead of a needle in a haystack
Nell mumbled to herself, "I never knew something so small could have so
much room."
Barbara could feel Nell's tension and wanted to ease it. "Dear, I swear
purses have some sort of interdimensional space in them. Don't worry
about the pin, I am just being a diva with my hair. Yours is great.
Mind if I sit and join you?"

"I am sorry I did not catch your name, what is it again."
Barbara asking Nell for her name again really put the girl at ease.
Nell knew she did not introduce herself, and this lady was giving her a
way to do so again.
"I am Niles, no, it is Nell."
Nell cursed herself. She could not believe it was so complex for her to
say a simple sentence. This was the first time Nell had a name fitting
how she looked and blew the chance of saying it right.
"Nell, you are new to being out and you will say the other name a couple
of more times tonight. It is no big deal and every single girl here did
so while being out for the first time. I said my name was Tom so many
times my first time here. By the end of night I was joking that my name
was Tom sorry its Barbara."
Hearing that the woman sitting across from did not have it together her
first time out made Nell feel so much better about saying the wrong
name. If Barbara, a lady who as confident as a well prepared student

I wore a floral print dress with a light blue denim jacket and black

"Really, it just feels like I am a little underdressed with what you and
the other girls have on."
Nell's statement showed how much perception made reality for a person.
It was true most of the girls there so far where dressed in one of their
best outfits, but not all of them. Many of them were dressed casual.
"Nell, look around you again. You are not underdressed. There are a
couple of girls just wearing a cotton blouse and denim skirts. There is
that lady wearing the black with white stripes romper also.
Plus, that outfit suits you well. It is geek chic and you pull it off
great. Don't worry about what other people are wearing. Being out
tonight is all about expressing yourself."
"You are dressed so elegant."
"That is how I wanted to dress tonight, hun. Like I said, the last time
I came here I wanted to be way more than casual."
Having the little conversation with her new friend made Nell feel as
much at ease as an underclass girl sitting with her best friend at a
dance. The new girl casually looked in her purse and found the red
herring Barbara used to strike up the conversation with her. Barbara
was a little confused when she was offered the bobby pin, but quickly
remembered her ruse. She thanked Nell and fixed her hair.
Some of Barbara's friends came to the table to see her and also meet the
new girl. Nell was finding her footing and laughed the couple of times
she gave her male name first. The other girls told the stories of them
mixing up their names. Barbara's best friend and mentor, Susanne, told
the one which was the most embarrassing. After her first time out as
Susanne she introduced herself to her new next door neighbors as Susanne
instead of her male name. Nell felt that must as been as awkward as
walking into the wrong class in the middle of a term during sixth form.
Nell was ready to strike out on her own. She was feeling as confident
as a student in their last year at Sixth form and wanted to dance. She
excused herself from their table and left her purse there. Nell knew
she did not need her shield to form a protective zone around herself.
Plus, she wanted both of her hands free as she was on the dance floor.
As Nell walked away Tress mentioned to Barbara and Susanne that she
loved watching how quick the little ones grew up.
On the floor some of the men were checking out Nell. The girl Nell was
talking with while dancing, Trudy, made sure to point out Nell's
admirers. The neophyte dancer thought to herself even more men would
check out out if she was wearing black baby doll dress she brought with
her.
One of the men had the courage to come out on the dance floor and dance
with Nell. He had a retro Atari t-shirt underneath his unbuttoned cotton
dress shirt. To her, the man was going for casual geek, and she loved
it. She started to enjoy the company of the man who crashed her private
dance party as much as a girl being asked out by the guy she had a crush
on.
Nell told her dance partner she was going back to her friends to cool
down some. As she was leaving the dance floor; the smitten lady was
hoping, like a student who did not do their homework that the teacher
would not collect it, that he would follow her. Instead he mentioned to
her that he would be at the Way Out Club tomorrow night. She loved how
she said might see you there. It felt like flirting.
In truth, Nell wanted to say yes more than a girl wanted the perfect
prom dress but could not. She planned on being in London for only the
night. Even if this was a weekend excursion she had no idea where The
Way Out Club was located or what it was. Nell liked to know as much as
possible about anywhere she went before she took a step in there.
Nell came back to the table to tell her three friends who were still
sitting there: Barbara, Susanne, and Tress. "Have any of you heard of
The Way Out Club?"
Barbara "Yes sweetie, we go there all the time. If Nell is free, you
should come tomorrow."
Nell was trying to figure out a way to go there without spending that
much more money. She had to be frugal with her funds to make ends meet.
If it was just going to the club, it would be no problem. There is the
added cost of another night at a hotel, eating out, and also changing
her train ticket. "I don't have a hotel room and my train ticket is for
tomorrow."
Barbara said, "Dear, I will upgrade my room to a double tomorrow night
and you can stay with me. That is only if you are comfortable with
that."
Tress added, "You, along with Barbara and Susanne can come over to my
place for tea. We always talk about meeting up like that before going
out. It will be a fun!"
Susanne said, "I can take you out shopping to get you a different outfit
for tomorrow."
Nell did not answer. She was touched that these ladies were being so
generous and kind to someone they just met. Even with the offer coming
from the heart, the prideful lady did not want to be seen as a charity
case.
Susanne said, "Nell dear, do not think about it we will take no for an
answer. Us girls have to help one another. I helped Barbara out when
she was starting to come out, and we both helped Tress when she started
to come out. We know you will do the same when you can help a new
girl."
"OK, it sounds like a great time! I do not need a new outfit for
tomorrow for I brought a couple of different ones for tonight. I've got
a nice black baby doll which I so want to wear. That is if I can pull
it off!"
Barbara said, "You can so pull that off. You already have that Lisa
Loeb vibe going."
Nell did have have that vibe. Her glasses and pixieish geek demeanor
gave it to her. Still, the girl who was born before Lisa Loeb's heyday
had no idea who they were talking about. Being a child of the internet
she pulled out her phone and looked up who they compared her to. Seeing
the video for Stay, Nell agreed they were right.
Not only that, Lisa was the embodiment of womanhood to Nell.
Remembering what Janet and the other girls told her about names, Nell
had a thought. She felt like a Lisa not a Nell. The lady who was
changing her name made the announcement, "You are so right! I love her
vibe. My name is Lisa."
Her three fairy godmothers agreed and were so happy to share this moment
with their new friend. It made the bond between them stronger. The
rest of the night the four ladies just talked and enjoyed being who they
were. Lisa was so happy when Janet came over again, she wanted to tell
tonigt's hostess her real name. Janet loved it and agreed about the Lisa
Loeb vibe. Lisa could not help but think she had the answer to when the

As the club closed, they left. Lisa felt as good about the future as
the student who aced all of her A Level exams. She could not wait to
see what was ahead for her. She knew her life was filled with so many
possibilities and wanted to go explore them all.
