Chapter 26

4:00pm... July 3 Jim's Boat...

"Genevieve..."

"Si?"

My voice was low and slow. The heat had brought me to the point where a sloth could have left me in the dust. "If anyone had told me I'd be able to lie next to you for an entire day... When both of us are naked... Without making love... I would have called him a liar."

"Day not over. But know what you say."

In unison, both of us sighed and drank more hot, bottled water. The last ice in our ice chests had melted before noon. Today had been miserable. By 9am the temperature had already hit 95 degrees and it had just got hotter from there. For hours the two of us had been lying in pools of our own sweat. All desire except for a respite from the heat had been baked from our bodies. I'd been next to a beautiful, naked woman for hours and couldn't even raise the semblance of an erection.

"Ice cream. I'd eat a gallon of cold ice cream," I said wistfully. Genevieve and I had entertained each other by naming foods we wished we had.

"What type you like?"

"Butter pecan."

"Gelato... Any kind."

"It's time, Genevieve," I reluctantly told her. Once an hour we went to my cabin. I'd lift her up through the hatch so she could look for any activity on the small island. Lifting her was pure pleasure since, whether from the front or back, I ended up with perfect female anatomy at eye level. What wasn't pleasant was the heat. Walking into my cabin was akin to walking into an oven! A very hot oven.

"Oh, Dios," Genevieve breathed out. She was less enthusiastic at going into the oven than I was.

Sitting up, I took a moment to admire Genevieve. I'd put sheets and towels over the seat cushions we were lying on and even sweaty and nearing heat stroke Genevieve's body was gorgeous.

I was about to lean over to lick the sweat from a nipple when I raised my head to listen and... "Oh, thank you God."

Shading her eyes with a hand, Genevieve looked at me puzzled and asked, "Why you thank God?"

"Listen." I cocked my head and Genevieve listened.

In a few seconds the distant sound came again. "Aeroplano," Genevieve asked.

"No," I answered. Crawling to starboard to look down the boat's length I saw the distant dark clouds out over the ocean. Laughing I told a bemused Genevieve, "It's thunder! We're going to have a thunderstorm roll over us soon."

"No, no, no... Hot, sweaty, hungry... Now get storm! Why God hate me?" Genevieve cried out in an aggrieved tone.

"Genevieve, God loves you. Think! Cool rain... Cool breezes... Shade from the sun and..." I stopped talking, instead running below deck to reappear and hand Genevieve...

"Soap?"

"Yes. These thunderstorms roll through pretty regularly along the coast in the afternoons. They last about half an hour but that's plenty of time for you, us, to have a shower."

Suddenly infused with strength, Genevieve crawled to the side of the boat to watch the storm clouds draw closer. Already almost continuous rumbles of thunder were sounding and a breeze began moving the marsh grass. With the wind clearing the bugs away, once clouds covered the sun I pulled up enough tape to free our mosquito net so Genevieve could stand in one spot to wait for her bath. The soap clutched in her hand could have been a gold bar. Genevieve ran below for a towel and came back with shampoo, also.

When the storm broke around us it was all wind, lightening and thunder so loud we had to shout to be heard. Then the rain came and Genevieve wasn't interested in talking as she soaped and washed and shampooed and soaped and washed again. An hour ago we'd been baked almost into comas. Now we were shivering from cold as if bucket after bucket of cold water were being poured on us. It felt wonderful!

All too soon the rain began to slacken. Genevieve and I stopped with the soap and let the last of the rain wash us soap free. The wind remained strong and we were still shivering when I noticed that... Genevieve's nipples were very, very hard. Genevieve noticed that my cock was suddenly getting very, very hard, also.

Smiling, Genevieve stepped into my arms and after a deep kiss, whispered, "I no say no, Jeem."

Wet sheets, towels soaked from the rain. Wet cushions... None of that mattered to either of us as I followed Genevieve to the deck. Strong wind, lightening strikes close and thunder deafening... A last gale of drenching rain that came out of nowhere... None of that mattered except to invigorate our sex.

I pushed Genevieve onto her back. With the storm raging its final furies around us, I took her hard and fast. There was no love making technique between us. This was raw sex as we both used the other to build our passion. As hard as I moved between Genevieve's legs she pushed her hips up to meet my thrusts with her own. Strong arms pulled me down to lie prone atop Genevieve as she yelled, 'Fuck me fica! Fuck me hard!'. Which was exactly what I did. First atop her, then on my elbows, then on locked arms as I rose up to put more power into my thrusts. All the while listening to Genevieve's groans and cries for me to take her harder... Faster... I tried to meet her demands while enjoying watching how her tits moved over her chest in time to my thrusts.

Grasping Genevieve's thighs behind her knees, I bent her body until her knees were touching her shoulders. Again I pounded between her legs. My weight on my hands pressing her knees to the sheet beside her shoulders, Genevieve was gasping, 'Si! Si! Si!', in time to my thrusts. But then, I watched as her eyes rolled back and her words were replaced with small barking 'arf's'. Hands flung out to her sides clutched the sheets as her back and neck bent and her barks came through clenched teeth. Then with a cry, Genevieve came.

Controlling my desire to come, I continued to use her through her orgasm until her back and neck began to relax. Her wordless cries of orgasm became gasps for air as my thrusts continued to drive the breath from her lungs. Genevieve was still recovering from her orgasm when I threw her legs to one side, grabbed her hips and pulled her up upon her knees. Holding her hips with one hand, I used my other to put the tip of my cock to her slit and thrust hard. Genevieve cried out from my harsh treatment of her pussy but it was a cry of pleasure as she pushed back to take me as hard and fast as I took her.

With cries of, 'Si! Si! Fuck me! Fuck me!', Genevieve rose up to balance on one elbow. I felt fingertips touching my cock as we fucked. Fingers played fast and pressed hard on a sensitive clit as I continued to fuck her furiously. I was close to coming when cries of 'Fuck me!' were replaced with drawn out, wordless cries rising in octaves as Genevieve came again.

Genevieve collapsed face down onto her chest. Fingers continued to stroke across her clit quickly as her body spasmed through another climax. Deep muscles causing her cunt to grip and release around my cock pushed me over the edge. My hands still gripping Genevieve's hips pulled, holding her slit hard against my groin as I came deep with short, sharp jabs.

Not wanting to pull out, I reached to grasp her breasts and pulled Genevieve up against my chest. Both of us on our knees, gasping for breath, while I played with her large, soft tits and pinched hard nipples. Pressing her closer, I whispered in her ear, "You come big."

"Si. Oh, si... I come very big, Jeem. Two time!" Genevieve breathlessly whispered back. "I like this come very big."

Sitting back on my ankles, I pulled Genevieve back onto hers. She seemed perfectly content to continue to lean back against me with my cock still inside her pussy. Wrapping my arms around her I was perfectly content to have her exactly where she was. Damn, I was going to miss her. In two, three days at most, she'd be flying back to Italy.

Thoughts of her leaving made my cock soften and when I slid out, it was followed by a wet, pussy fart. Most women would have been embarrassed but Genevieve just laughed, "Now I make mess."

Moving out of my arms far enough to retrieve her washcloth, Genevieve put it between her thighs. I moved to stretch my legs out and scooted to where I could lean back against the side of my boat. Reaching, I got a grip on Genevieve and pulled her to sit between my legs so she could stretch her long, beautiful legs out and lean against me.

Holding her tight, my hands found her breasts. Lifting and supporting full breasts while kneading Genevieve's soft masses. Twisting her back and neck to kiss me, her free hand came to rest on one of mine to press my fingers deeper into her breast. "I like you like me boobies." Pushing the washcloth further between her legs, there was a merry twinkle in her eyes as she observed, "Man make mess... Go sleep. Leave woman to clean mess he make." Twisting her spine, Genevieve kissed me again, "I much like cleaning you messes."

Chapter 27

11:59pm July 3rd... Jim's boat...

"No work," Genevieve asked.

"No," I answered and tossed my phone onto the bench I was leaning against. "It might work when it dries out."

"I sorry, Jeem. I use phone when you sleep. Call Mama, say I okay. Forget and no put back. Then it rain so hard it get wet. You boat radio?"

"Nothing. Just static. Taking down the mast meant we also took down the antenna. I would have bet money we could still reach someone this close to shore... But nothing but static. Damn it! What the hell do we do if that boat does show up? We can't contact anyone!"

"We go capture," Genevieve stated matter-of-factly. "We capture, use they phone call help."

I chewed on that thought. It wasn't crazy. We were trained police officers and we'd have surprise in our favor... Except, the thought of Genevieve being shot... But, as I thought over our options... "Okay. Here's what we'll do. If it looks like we can get the drop on them we'll do the capture. If there are too many at the meet we run down the causeway like rabbits and hope we can flag down a car."

Genevieve raspberried my plan. "Pfft! I no run like rabbit! I shoot them!"

"Genevieve, my back-up piece is a snub nose revolver. I wouldn't go into a shootout with it and I sure as hell won't let you!"

"Why I need this back-up? I have my pistola."

"You have a gun?"

"Si. I Interpol, Jeem. I take pistola where I go. I no can carry on plane so is in lock box in luggage. I get. Show you."

Genevieve came back shortly with a pistol in a holster and, after dropping the magazine and working the action to show it wasn't loaded, handed it to me. "Is Berretta 92 FS, 9mm. Very good pistola. Is Italiano like me."

Damn. It sure as hell felt good. Good grip, weight... I felt a bit better knowing Genevieve would be going into trouble, if trouble showed up, with a good piece.

"Okay. But Genevieve, I'm in charge here. I'm the local law enforcement officer and if I say run like a rabbit... You will run like a rabbit!"

"Okay, okay... You say run, I run like coniglio."

I handed the Berretta back. "Well, at least we'll know soon. It's after midnight so, happy 4th of July, Genevieve."

"You too, Jeem. Happy this Quarto di Luglio."

Noon... July 4th... Willy's Cabin...

Two men walked through the door. One ordering, "Damn! Get the air conditioner going. You're sure what to do tonight?"

"I hang out by the bar pretending to be bartender. When you give the word I bring out the rifle and get the drop on everyone."

"Fine. Good! We get the diamonds and I'll get that senile old man to give me, us, the money and you'll be richer than you ever thought you'd be."

"Sounds good to me, Boss," the larger man answered while setting the thermostat.

"Sounds good to me, too," the smaller man said. Deciding it would be cooler outside until the air conditioner started making a dent on the heat inside, he went outside to sit in a chair on the small patio. Should have told that idiot to start the air conditioner going when he came to drop off the guns yesterday, he thought.

Grinning, Willy didn't blame the other man for not showing the initiative to have the small cabin cooled. Willy hadn't hired the big guy for initiative. He'd hired him because the idiot did what he was told to do, asked no questions and was dumb enough to think he'd actually get rich tonight. If everything went according to plan only one person would be leaving this small island tonight alive...

2:00pm July 4th... Jim's Boat...

Today was just as hot and miserable as yesterday had been. Only the anticipation of the yacht showing up kept me going. To keep busy we'd begun taking a look around every 30 minutes. If I was right that boat could show up at any time now. Daylight for the run through the channel into the Waterway and daylight for the run out of the channel... That's what I'd want for a boat that large.

"Maybe rain today," Genevieve asked hopefully.

"Maybe. We can hope," I answered. Genevieve wasn't doing well after days in this heat. Hell, I wasn't doing well after days in this heat... Neither of us had an appetite. I'd made a silent vow to never eat another Vienna sausage in my life. "I hope if that yacht is coming it comes today. I don't think we have enough water to stay another day."

"A frittata."

"Is that a new curse word?" Genevieve had been passing the time teaching me curse words in various languages.

"Is what I want eat. Take eggs, cheese, olive oil, any left overs in fridge... Mix all together in pan over burner. Have frittata."

"That does sound good. Mom will need to look up the recipe. Though, I don't think she wants much to do with Italia right now."

"No to do with Italia girl you mean."

"Yea. I'm afraid you are definitely on Mom's shit list. But that's for another day. Right now I think we've got enough trouble headed our way. That's a lot of dark clouds to our south."

"Is new storm? Bring cool rain," Genevieve asked hopefully while sitting up to look.

"Si, is new storm," I answered in Genevieve lingo. "But not like the storm yesterday. I've been watching and it's not coming in off the ocean. It's coming from due south of us and it stretches inland and out to sea. That's not a thunderstorm that will move in and out in an hour. Genevieve, I think it's going to be a wet night."

Chapter 28

7:00pm July 4th... Jim's Boat...

Genevieve and I had to be careful. Wind gusts bent the marsh grass down at odd times and we had to stay low to prevent from being seen. With the wind carrying the bugs away I'd opened the mosquito net so we could climb onto the deck over the cabins. No more having to lift Genevieve through the hatch, the two of us could climb up and watch...

"Is big boat I see Palermo, Jeem."

"That is definitely a big boat," I agreed. At least 110 feet from stem to stern, she slowly glided up the Waterway with two crew men on deck ready to tie her off to Willy's dock. All this time I really hadn't believed 100% that this boat would come here. Now there was no doubt and I cursed that my phone and radio both obstinately refused to work.

Genevieve and I continued to watch as the yacht, edging towards the opposite side of the Waterway, went past Willy's dock before making a slow turn to come back. I waited until the yacht was tied up before sliding backwards and down onto the stern deck of my sailboat.

I checked my phone and the radio one more time. Neither worked. Damn! I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to inflate the emergency raft and make a run for the road. Except, it was at least a 700 to 800 yard trip past Willy's island. And it would be only that long if we didn't get lost in the channels that crisscrossed the marsh. With the sun hidden by the thick cloud cover the storm was pushing in, getting turned around and lost in the tall grass was a definite risk.

But, Willy's island was only 200 yards away and from what I'd seen before the boat came there was a channel that led straight to it. The best plan I could come up with was to paddle to Willy's place, look around and either bust in like Genevieve wanted or run like rabbits for the road.

Genevieve slid down beside me. "No one come off boat yet, Jeem."

"Okay. Let's get ready."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

"Are you ready, Uncle?"

"Almost, Giancarlo. Don't rush me. I think I threw up the whole trip here! Being seasick is nothing to just get over when you're as old as me."

"Nothing is good to get over when you're as ancient as you are, Uncle."

"Bah, I should disown you for such a disrespectable attitude. You carry the computer..."

"It's a laptop, Uncle."

"Then you carry the computer laptop while I hit you about the head and shoulders! That will make me feel better."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

"Are you ready," Willy asked while looking out the window. Three men were on his dock walking towards the house. "The chain is down so a car can reach the house?"

"The chain is down and the guns are hidden behind the bar, Boss. You say the word and I cover those guys with the rifle while you get your pistol."

"And..."

"And I don't shoot anyone unless they pull a gun or you tell me to, Boss."

"Good. Very good. Get the snack trays out of the refrigerator and put 'em out on the table. Let's give these guys a chance for a last meal."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I can't wait for this to be over! What a stupid place to meet. If anyone ever asks, I can honestly say that I've been to the ass-end-of-nowhere...

Rambo snapped on the headlights as the day darkened towards night. Cloud cover and tree limbs stretching over the narrow road made it darker than what it should have been. Slowing to make a sharp turn at the edge of a marsh, Rambo could see the glow of a light out in the marsh and an even narrower dirt road that ran towards the light.

Smiling, Rambo made the turn. It's showtime!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

7:45pm... Willy's Island...

"Lights, Jeem. Think is auto."

"I see 'em. We've got the host, the buyer and that must be the seller."

I'd grounded the inflatable and we were crouched on the marsh side of a low stone wall. Both of us pulled our heads down as headlights played over our section of the wall. Poking our heads back up, we watched as a man climbed out of the car carrying a heavy bag. He disappeared around the side of the house we couldn't see.

Both of us were in jeans and the darkest shirts we had. Genevieve looked cute with her long blond hair bunched under a baseball cap. As dark as it was getting as the sun sank further plus the heavy cloud cover we were very well camouflaged.

"Genevieve, if we go that way we might be seen from the boat," I told her pointing in the direction of the Waterway. "We'll go towards where the car came from and recon the perimeter." Remembering Genevieve didn't have her translator machine, I dumbed down my words. "We'll use the cover of this wall to make sure no one is outside the house before we go towards the house.

"Ahh, good thing, Jeem. We go."

Staying low, Genevieve took off. Shaking my head I could only follow. We didn't see anyone and went slow towards where the wall ended to let cars pass. Both of us taking a good look around. There was barely any light and I bumped into Genevieve when she stopped suddenly where the wall ended. As far as I could tell there was no one but us on this side of the house.

I tapped Genevieve's shoulder and let her see me draw my gun. She nodded and did the same. The wind gusts were getting stronger and the lightening was visibly closer. "Okay," I told her. "When I say, we'll cross this open section and get behind the wall on that side."

I took another long look but didn't see any suspicious shadows. I nodded and said, "Now!"

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

"Now!"

I was tired of watching that fat shit try and explain why some girl wasn't here. Don Carlos didn't look happy. His nephew sure as hell wasn't happy to hear some dumb broad had had a car accident. The guy examining the diamonds looked like he didn't give a shit. At my command, as one we came up with rifle and pistol trained on the unhappy group.

It was Don Carlos I kept my gun trained on. That old bastard had to be carrying. No way would an old mafioso come to a meet unarmed. "Don Carlos, very slowly... Very, very slowly, put your hands on the table and don't move."

The old guy did as I said. Didn't even ask questions. He knew what the score was. "Now you," I told the nephew. "Hands on the table."

I waited until hands were in view. The guy who'd been looking through a loup at the diamonds didn't need to be told. His hands hit the table, too. That left the fat fuck who'd brought the diamonds. I didn't need him but I didn't want to kill him yet. Better to let these guys think they had a chance of leaving here alive. Asshole looked ready to cry but he sat down in the last chair at the table and put his hands on the table top when I told him to.

"Okay, if anyone takes their hands off the table my associate will shoot you. Understand? Nod your head if you understand. Good."

Moving to not block a rifle shot, I moved behind each of them to give 'em a good pat down. As I thought, Don Carlos had a small revolver in the small of his back. The bag of diamonds was heavier than I thought but I got it off the table and put it aside.

Standing behind Don Carlos I threw a piece of paper onto the table between his hands. "That has the bank account I want you to transfer the money to and..."

"Don't do it, Uncle. He will kill us anyway."

"You have the diamonds," Fats blubbered. "You can have 'em. This is between you and them now! Just let me go!"

"Jesus Christ! There's no way you're the brains behind stealing all those diamonds," I told Fats with scorn.

"He is not," Don Carlos stated, then asked across the table. "Answer me true, where is Granddaughter? Is she dead or do you speak true that she is in hospital?"

"I swear! She's in a hospital and..."

"SHUT UP! Both of you," I shouted. "I don't care who this granddaughter is. I want the money."

I didn't expect Don Carlos to smile. "You will care if he say the truth. Not matter what you do now. If she lives, then you die."

The younger guy nodded and smiled also, adding, "And you'll never see her coming."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

So far I'd seen no one lurking around outside of the cabin. Dark windows gave me pause but no one must have been watching from them as I'd made my run to the wall of the cabin.

"Come on," I said and waved my hand. Genevieve ran hunched over to join me by the wall of the house. No one was on the dock. We hadn't seen anyone during our sweep of the perimeter. The cars were behind us. In front of us French doors let light shine on a small patio.

I'd crossed the lawn first and with Genevieve beside me now we waited for any sign of alarm. None.

"Jeem. Doors have thin curtain. We see in room but they no can see us in dark."

"That's true," I replied. I didn't like this at all. If Genevieve was right, and up to now she'd been right about everything, then someone was missing. I waved Genevieve to follow me and moved further away from the lit patio.

Crouched in shadows, I talked just loud enough to be heard over the wind and the growing rumbles of thunder. "The small woman. The woman you think did the jobs. Don't you think she should have come with the guy who brought the diamonds? If she's not already inside, then she's out here like us keeping watch."

"Maybe inside already then. Not know if no look."

"And if we do move to look we'll be in the light. If she's out here watching, no way she won't see us. And if she's on the causeway keeping watch we'd run right into her if we run for the road. Either way she'd get the first shot before we'd see her."

"I say look. She there or no there. But we know then."

Shit! I did not like this at all! But, I couldn't think of anything better to do. "Let's go. Just far enough to peek in. Try to stay out of the light as much as possible."

Genevieve nodded and we both padded forward. We stopped and crouched down before stepping where the light coming through the panes of glass was the brightest. I looked around but it was full dark now. Lightening was growing closer but was still far enough away that flashes barely lit the outside. This was where Genevieve and I were the most vulnerable. Anyone out by the cars or the low wall would see us in the light of the doors and we wouldn't see shit!

Both of us leaned forward at the same time. Through the filmy curtain I counted quickly... Four men sitting around a table. Two men standing, one with a pistol and one with a rifle, both with weapons trained on the men seated at the table.

Still looking at the men I asked Genevieve, "What do you think?"

"I think it's time I fuck this party up."

I felt something sting my neck. I turned in shock to see a syringe in Genevieve's hand and... then... things... went... bluuurrry..........

Chapter 29

9:00pm... Willy's Island...

"Come here, Jim. Sit down over here. Yes, over here... Sit, Jim."

"Okay... Wow, you're so pretty..."

"Thank you, Jim. I want you to sit here. Sit, Jim. Sit! Good boy. Now don't move. Stay right here, Jim."

Taking Jim's pistol, I put the safety on and stuck it through my belt. What I'd shot into Jim wasn't the stuff Rambo had cooked up but it worked fast and lasted about 20 minutes. Rambo had shown me how useful a quick, silent and non-lethal way to put a guy down was. It hadn't taken much research to find and acquire my own substitute. Unfortunately it didn't knock out the person who received it. The good thing about it was it didn't need to be mixed and it didn't turn to crap in 30 minutes.

I crept back to the French doors... And hung my head down in irritation. Sighing, I turned around to lead Jim back to where I wanted him to sit. Telling Jim over and over to stay, I left him trying to grasp pretty things only he could see.

The action inside hadn't changed much. The smaller of the two armed men I labeled Willy. Willy was pushing a laptop in front of Don Carlos, pointing at it and yelling so loudly that I could hear. He wanted Don Carlos to transfer the money for the diamonds to an account. Willy then said something I couldn't hear over the sound of the wind but seeing him point the business end of the gun at Gi's crotch, I got the gist.

It would serve Gi right to get his dick shot off but Grandfather wouldn't like that if it happened. I knew what I had to do and who I needed to shoot first but... I needed to time my shots when Willy's gun wasn't pointed at Gi's balls. With the safety off I aimed through the pane of glass. "Move the fucking gun," I whispered and waited.

The thunder was getting closer. One lightening flash behind me and my shadow would be silhouetted against the curtain. Jim was still murmuring, 'Pretty, pretty...', but I couldn't count on him remaining in place. Dammit, I needed a distraction. Something to make Willy move his gun. Looking around I saw nothing I could...

Hell, I knew what to do... I put my gun under my armpit to draw Jim's from my belt. Dropping the magazine I worked the action and caught the round that popped into the air. Tossing magazine and pistol into the grass, I took a deep breath, looked through the door... and threw the round hard against one of the panes of glass.

I saw Willy mouth 'What the fuck,' as he turned towards the sound of the glass pane cracking. As soon as the barrel of his pistol wasn't pointed towards Gi I opened fire. Not really sure how many times I fired. My first shot probably missed as it was deflected by smashing through the glass, but at least one of my shots went home and Willy dropped. Either dead or wounded I didn't know. He was out of my line of sight so he could wait as I shifted targets and began blasting rounds at the guy with the rifle.

He was further away than Willy had been and he took a blind shot through the curtain that punched through a glass pane in the door to my side. He didn't get a second shot as, again, at least one of my shots hit home and he dropped. As I stood looking through the glass doors, in the sudden silence I almost wet myself when Jim's face appeared beside mine and, "You're really pretty."

"Oh, Jesus," I breathed and pushed Jim's face away. Don Carlos got his wits together first and picked up Willy's pistol. Looking at the door I was behind, he was clearly uncertain if he should fire blindly. Dropping down, I... Stood back up grabbed Jim's shirt and pulled him down to the ground too.

Raising my voice, I yelled, "Grandfather! Don't shoot! It's Christina!"

"Granddaughter? But this man say you in hospital." I was pleased to see Don Carlos shift the pistol in his hand to point at Rambo.

"He lied. That bastard tried to kill me. Keep your gun on him and shoot him if you feel like it. I'm going to come inside."

Moving slowly, I opened the door. Grandfather wasn't the only one to see me. Screaming that I was dead, I think Rambo wet himself as I stepped inside.

"It can't be you! I killed you! You're dead!"

"I got better, you asshole."

Jim came wondering through the door and I stepped between him and Grandfather as Grandfather raised the gun to point at Jim. "No, Grandfather. He's not one of them," I told him, pointing to the bodies on the floor.

I led Jim to a couch and got him to lie down. Gi asked if Jim were retarded. "No, just d**gged. It'll wear off in about ten minutes."

"Who is he, Granddaughter?"

"He's a police detective. He helped me get here without that bastard knowing I was here," I pointed to Willy.

"That one is dead, Uncle," Gi said walking back from checking the guy who'd had the rifle. Gi now carried the rifle.

I walked over to kneel beside Willy. I'd winged him in the shoulder but he was still very much alive. Despite what old Westerns and war movies would have you believe, there's nothing minor about a shoulder wound. Major arteries and nerves meet there. From the slow bleeding I saw I hadn't hit a major vessel. Grimacing in pain, Willy observed, "I guess you're the girl they were talking about."

"I guess I am," I answered, standing up. Moving a few feet away I took aim and shot Willy in the head.

Gi looked shocked and Rambo began blubbering harder. Don Carlos looked satisfied. "Why did you shoot him," Gi asked looking at the body. "What did he do to you?"

"He didn't do anything to me. That's why I killed him."

"What," Gi almost screamed.

I had to remind myself that Gi, despite knowing what his uncle did, had pretty much been a straight arrow all his life. He'd definitely never been exposed to the grittier side of life. Walking over to intercept Jim from walking out the open French doors, I explained while leading Jim back to sit on the couch. "He wasn't going to leave here alive no matter what, Gi," I said. "He was in pain so I put him out of his misery. If he'd done something to me I would have let him live in pain for awhile."

Chapter 30

9:23pm... Willy's Cabin...

It was time to wrap things up. Getting Gi to carry the diamonds and laptop to the boat I drew him out of Jim's hearing and quietly asked him to put the powerboat on the yacht's stern into the water and make sure it was fueled up. Gi left with the diamond appraiser in tow. I yelled after him to bring back a liter or two of gasoline.

I handed Don Carlos a slip of paper with the account number he could transfer my money into. He nodded and surprised me by kissing both my cheeks. "You save my nephew's life. You are familia now."

"Ah, we don't have to cut our hands and mix blood or anything like that, do we," I asked. "I like my blood on the inside."

Don Carlos laughed then pointed to Jim who was sitting, shaking his head and starting to wake from his dreams of pretty things. "I take him with us. He will just disappear."

I shook my head. "No, I'll take care of him. In a couple of weeks no one will care about Willy and these guys. Hell, quite a few people Willy has dirt on will want to give us medals for killing him. But Jim's policia. Kill him and they'll never stop coming after us."

"Genevieve? What the hell is going on?" Jim was looking at the dead bodies quizzically and sounded almost normal. That's when I remembered. Going to Jim I knelt down and took his back up piece from the holster around his ankle before he remembered it was there.

Deciding that I'd waited long enough, it was time to wrap up loose ends. I stood Rambo up from the table and pushed him to one wall of the room. Backing away, I tossed Jim's revolver onto a chair then continued to back up to the opposite wall. "I'm gonna give you a chance, Rambo. That's more than you gave me. Go for the gun. Who knows? Maybe my gun is out of ammo."

"NO! You're gonna kill me..."

"Well, I'm definitely going to kill you if you just stand there. Go for the gun, Rambo," I told him calmly. "I'll give you a three count. If you're still standing against the wall like a coward after that, I'll shoot you in the gut. Go for the gun and have a chance to live or die with a bullet in your belly. Your choice... Three..."

"Genevieve! You can't just kill him!"

"Shut up, Jim. I'm a little busy... Two..."

Rambo made his move... Moving and reaching toward the revolver. I took aim and waited. As Rambo's hand touched the revolver his eyes came up as I fired. It was pure luck that let me drill a clean hole right between his eyes. I took custody of Jim's revolver from Rambo's limp hand.

"I said I'd give you a chance, you piece of shit," I told Rambo's body. "I never said it would be a good chance."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I couldn't believe what I'd seen. I wondered if I was still d**gged. Closing my eyes I took a deep breath and... No, he was still dead. Genevieve had shot him in the head, showing no more emotion than if she'd swatted an annoying fly.

Just then a guy came through the French doors with two glass bottles he set on the table. Asking Genevieve to step out onto the patio, they left me alone with the old guy. He sat down in a chair too far away for me to have any chance to jump him.

"He came for her, police."

I pulled my eyes away from Genevieve and the other guy. There was no mistaking their body language though I couldn't hear what they were saying. There had been more than just friendship between those two.

"Listen to me, police," the old guy continued. "My nephew, Giancarlo, he have nothing to do with this. He just come to say things to Christina. Understand, police? You say what you want about me. I have many lawyers. Lawyers that will talk, talk for many years. I old. I maybe die before lawyers stop talking.

"But nephew? He never here, police. Understand? You not involve nephew in this. You bring mi familia into this, I bring you familia into this. You understand this, police? No bring familia into this..."

"I understand what your saying, old man."

"Good. Good, police. You want beer," the old guy asked getting up to walk behind the bar.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Gi and I walked back into the room to find Jim and Grandfather drinking a beer. A fine mist was turning into a light rain as we said our goodbyes. "It's time for you to go, Gi. There will be so much confusion around here shortly that you'll be way out in the Atlantic before the police figure out what happened."

"You call me when your safe. Do not make me worry," Gi said.

"I'll call when I'm where I'm going," I assured Don Carlos and Gi.

With one last kiss-kiss to my cheeks Don Carlos went to the door and stopped. Turning, he addressed Jim. "Remember, police. You no bring mi familia into this, I no bring you familia into this."

Gi gave me a last wave and they were gone.

Jim and me were quiet for a long time. Willy had been a smoker. There was a pack on the bar and I lit up. Menthols but beggars can't be choosers. I offered Jim a smoke but...

"As in a last smoke and a blindfold? Is this where you kill me," Jim asked.

"Why would I kill you?"

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe so you can get away?"

"I've got my escape all planned. Killing you isn't necessary."

Jim looked at the three dead bodies and asked, "Why?"

"Those two were threatening my friends and my former partner tried to kill me so..." I started explaining what I thought was obvious when Jim cut me off.

"Not why you shot them. Why involve me at all? You could have been here and gone without me, the police, even knowing."

"I never go into anything blind, Jim. As you and Lt. Dan pointed out, I do stand out in a crowd. I needed info and you don't know it yet but you helped me so much. You gave me a reason to be here. You showed me everything I needed to see. Besides," I smiled and tossed my hair theatrically and made a broad sweeping gesture with my arm. "This is my swan song. My last job. Maybe I just wanted to go out with a bang!"

Chapter 21Wassamassaw Island... July 1stI woke up when I heard Dad clumping around up on deck. After so many years working at the post office he seemed incapable of sleeping past 5am. Mom could sleep right through the noises he made while getting ready for work. Now that he was retired, the noises he made not getting ready for work woke her up. No one wanted to wake up Mom before she decided to wake up! So Dad would come out to my boat and wake me up instead.I started the coffee maker and by...

"There's no reason to. We're just going to sit for a bit until Grandfather has a decent head start.""And then?""And then I hit you with more happy juice," I told him. Death and Damnation Book 2 of Poachers ProgressChapter 21 Legacy of Diamonds

It was the song of a Mistle thrush that woke me. The sound of that bird's blithe, liquid, notes was something I had wakened to most mornings at Greenaway's Farm, and for a moment I thought myself back in the bedroom I had shared with my brothers. However the bed I was lying in was far more spacious and luxurious than the narrow bed of my youth, and then I realised it was the large four poster bed that I had shared with Annette Blanchard. The memory of the happy times we had enjoyed in this...

Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes

"Good morning, Ma'am. How may I serve you?" Katrina felt a shiver run down her spine to see the young man kneel beforeher, as if someone had run a pin-wheel along its length to lightly prick herskin. Such a charming welcome! Such sweet obeisance! She had heard whispers of this shoe store for some weeks now, rumours ofthe originality of its goods and the unique service it offered. It had takensome time to find, though, it never bothered to advertise, its name was nevermentioned in the press,...

‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend’ ‘Got a weird one for you, Adele.’ ‘I always get the weird ones, Hank,’ Detective Adele Franken responded as she walked past the sergeant and headed for her desk. She folded up her umbrella, taking a moment to make sure the rain hadn’t frizzed out her long brown hair too much. ‘The bidding rights for my memoirs are going to be fucking historic.’ She took a seat and reached for the file at the top of the stack. She flipped it open and her eyes automatically...

I showed up at five to nine and knocked on the door. The woman behind the desk pressed a buzzer that let me in. That was the kind of neighborhood it was now. As I entered the girl behind the counter came forward and greeted me warmly. She was a petite girl, maybe 5’1” with pale white skin and long dark hair that naturally curled down around her shoulders like Elizabeth Mastrantonio (the chick that played Maid Marion in the Kevin Costner Robin Hood movie). Her mouth was small and her eyes dark....

Labatt Mansion, London, Ontario 11:51pm, Friday, December 28, 1979 “Jeezes, Cuda! I can’t believe you tipped that missed shot into the basket like that to win the game,” Tempe excitedly said as she sat in the leather recliner with her injured right leg propped up with a pillow in the main living room of the Labatt’s big mansion. “Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then,” I laughed as I stood behind my four girlfriends at the entrance to the living room. “That was no luck,...

I had one particular passenger with unusual demands, but I was more than happy to oblige her requests. She was a thirty-eight-year-old divorcée named Holly Sykes, and she lived in the Gramercy Park section of Manhattan. What Holly asked for and got from me one Sunday afternoon in June, 1976, was my participation in her self-directed, quite...

IX: Training Daze Harvey Betancourt kept his eyes closed, his mind in an almost Zen-like state, as his wife continued to run the buzz of her old-school clippers over areas of his head. Bloodlines 2 PostVampire Depression

BLOODLINES 2: POST-VAMPIRE DEPRESSION BY Cassandra Anaconda Morrison Being a vampire is not as easy as you might think. In the first place, one has to pretty much swear-off direct sunlight - which means you can forget about that golden tan which is considered the epitome of sexual desirability. Instead you have to cultivate that alabaster pallor most people associate with dead things. One can compensate for this with body make-up of course but I would advise any fledglings out...

Diamonds and Rust

Author’s note: The title and theme of this story come from a song by Joan Baez from around 1969 or 1970, about her relationship with Bob Dylan. ^ ^ ^ ^ It was late in the afternoon in late November, already getting dark on a cold, dreary day that promised snow later that night. I was at a particularly rough spot in the novel I was working on, and I had developed a headache from trying to work out the plot line at that point in the book. I knew I needed to push on, because time was growing...

'What's going on; and why am I beginning to feel happy again?' Sam asked herself, watching Lynn play with Major. It didn't make any sense to the young woman. Major would have normally had a stranger on the ground by now with his playfulness. Not so with Lynn. Major behaved just as he would with Sam. While his improved behavior made her happy, it also perplexed her. Major, was a one-woman dog — her dog. Why would he relate to Lynn like he did to her? Sam was also mystified by how...

It was really too easy, I reflected when it was all over. I'd decided what I wanted, and getting it was almost anti-climactic. I say almost, because climaxes definitely weren't in short supply. It all came down to blood magic. When Jowan came to me with a half-assed scheme to learn blood magic from Uldred, I didn't agree to it for power. Blood Lust

I am so tired of all the bullshit about vampires. Yes… we do exist, so that’s not a myth, but all the rest… well, the crap people think they know about us is mostly nonsense. Firstly, we do not live thousands of years long. Around two hundred years is as good as it gets for us. Fortunately, we do not age and all mature vampires look like they are in their mid-twenties. This, of course, is a great advantage and sets us apart from boring humans. In addition, unlike humans, Vampires are also...

Blood Lust

Blood Lust        The winter wind howled fiercely as I made my way back to the town tavern. Pulling my tattered top coat tightly around my neck. Deathly afraid to be late for my meeting with my mysterious benefactor.       I think about the night before last while sitting alone at the rear of the noisy dark tavern   Counting my dwindling money and wondering how I would live and survive in this strange new world in...

Blood of BrothersChapter 10 House Cleaning

From the writings of Aarcidmus, high archivist and lord researcher to High Emperor Sedimer'tiskoniar: Milord has been obsessed as of late. His only concern is the weakness that has been spreading. The sickness seemed to come from nowhere, and yet, minor cases of it have been appearing in my research dating back several imperials. The weaker lords have been becoming ill and dying. The weak have vanished. The powers all demon kin has been weakening over time. I have not been able to make a...

Blood Lust

I was thinking what a pathetic life... I didn't see the car in front of me until I was nearly on top of it. Dim flashers through the snow caught my eye and I was able to slow enough to avoid hitting it. I wondered, as I slowly passed by if anyone was inside. I could not make out anything but the outline of the car. As I drove past I saw the lights flash faintly in the mirror. There was someone in the car. I slowed and started backing towards it. I'm not in the habit of stopping for...

Blood FangChapter 6

Paul showed up early the following day to his new job, eager for a new beginning. No longer would he be an alpha, and worse case scenario he could at least pretend to be normal. When the first dogs came in, he began their check ups, trying to hide the fact that he could hear them. He succeeded as far as the police were concerned, the dogs however knew better. Watching his every move they reacted to his every word and intention as if they clearly understood, and indeed they did. In an odd way...

Blood RoseChapter 7

1590 Very few things in the world had the power to frighten Electra. Her master's wrath happened to be one of them. And even that was usually only enough to make her take a step back and bow her head. Right now she shrunk down to the floor, positively cowering. Dracula's shadow aura was practically causing the whole keep to tremble with his rage. "Dost thou dare presume to insult my intelligence, Electra?" "No milord," Electra responded weakly. "I spoke only truth to you." "Then...

Blood RoseChapter 8

Her hair is like blood, her eyes violet jewels And she governs the fates of all whom she rules. Her voice is of silk, but her words are of steel. Look in her eyes, and your fears become real. A blossom of blood, with thorns that can kill, She will bend all your dreams to the ways of her will. Her beauty is pure as the clear driving rain, But to enter her world will bring only pain. The blade that she holds you cannot defy. Kill her you might, but she will not die. There is but one...

Bloodlines 3 Bats All in Leather

BLOODLINES 3: BATS ALL IN LEATHER I was growing extremely disillusioned with the LAPD. Here I had been hiding in my (recently deceased) Uncle Gregory's decaying Hollywood mansion for almost three weeks and STILL they had not discovered the body of Rick Herzog. I mean... what in the Nine Billion Hells of Nyarlathotep are we paying taxes for? I was almost tempted to grab the first cop I saw and drag him over to Rick's apartment. Saner council prevailed, however. And I soon realized...

Blood of BrothersChapter 13 Dining with Demons

What is the nature of demons? Are they the demons case down by god, the spawn of Satan, as humans tend to believe? Do they come from a different world? What are they? Demons come from all over the worlds. They are dimension travelers, but most specifically, they are beings that feed off of life. They are parasites. There are few that know the true origin of demons, most of them being the first demons. Some of them are still alive. Stories claim that the demons came originally from a harsh...

Blood Lust

My name is Jackson Shaw; at least that is what I call myself now. I have gone by many names over the ages. I am a vampire. I was turned the year the great pyramid was completed. Yes, I am over 2000 years old, ancient even by vampire standards. I have lived in the shadows for most of recorded human history. I say human history because it has been a long time since the title human could be associated with me.  Time teaches all to he who has the luxury of eternity. And what the ages have taught me...

Blood Moon Chronicles Book 2 As the Waning Moon SetsChapter 13

I made my way from the inn to the market east of there, where Clive had said they had been ambushed. When I arrived, there was a bustle of activity, normal for a market of this size, as well as a grouping of soldiers on the far side. I suspected that was where the attack had transpired. I weaved my way through the crowd until I arrived at the other side, where three soldiers were investigating the area. “Good afternoon gentlemen, what exactly happened here? Do you have any idea who did...

Blood RoseChapter 3

Six years ago... It was almost midnight. Brad and Ritchie had already retreated to their tents; Anthony was alone. Aside from the chirping of crickets and the crackle of his campfire, it was quiet. The pale light of the moon danced eerily on the ripples of the lake. He sat calmly in front of the fire, gazing out around the darkness of the woods. She was out there. He was certain he'd seen her once already. Last night when they got back from their hike he was certain for a split second...

Blood Diaries Ch 03

Chapter Three: The Angel of Death I had no fear for my life, if he had wanted to kill me he would have already. I realized that the warm feeling I had been getting was him feeding on me, but I was confident in my assessment that he wouldn’t make me his next victim. He wanted me to panic, to flee and leave him, but I couldn’t. instead I leaned forward and embraced him. He became very shocked at my reaction. ‘Who made you the way you are?’ I asked. ‘I have never told this story before,’ he...

Blood Sword

Blood Sword by Eddie Glover Brenlan felt the familiar twinge in his body. He reached for the sword he'd brought back from the east, the sword to which he was cursed. "That's a hell of a sword!", the bartender whistled in admiration. Brenalan turned with a frown, "You have no idea of it's strangeness or powers my friend.". He could now feel the sword's pull and the beginnings of his own change. "Help!", a woman screamed from outside. "Damn! It's about time I was...
