He punched her again. He was blind with rage. She did this to him, she made him this way. She was taking his child from him.
She fell back onto the bed, blood streaming from a cut on her lip. The tears starting to flow again. She’d cried a lot this past week wishing he could be with her but now she knew he couldn’t. She knew the she needed to keep the baby safe.
The door opened and in rushed her father and two other men. He landed another punch on her father before he was overpowered and dragged away by other two.
Her mother rushed past the men struggling with him and went to her daughter, comforting her as best she could. Her mind consumed with trying to figure out how to keep her family safe.
Her father recovered his feet and helped the two men removed the intruder. After a couple of aborted attempts that got him kicks to the face and chest, he managed to grab the intruder’s feet and the three of them removed him from the flat. Once they reached the parking lot, the police were there to take custody of the intruder.
That was the last time the unborn baby would ever be in a room with his birth father.
A few days later, he was in court as a restraining order was placed on him. A month later there was another fight with her father. This one outside the apartment building as he tried once more to get to her.
That was the final straw for her and her family. While he was holed up in a police cell waiting for another court appearance, she left town. She moved into home for pregnant women that was run by the Church. It was located in a small village over an two hours drive from her hometown.
She remained there until the baby was born. Days after the birth of her son and barely two weeks after her fifteenth birthday she then returned home without the baby.
The Church had promised that her baby would be going immediately to a good home. That he would be loved unconditionally by his new parents. She took comfort in that given the situation she was returning too.
But she soon found out that things were different when she got home. He - the baby’s father - wasn’t there. He was in juvenile detention centre. He been found guilty of stealing from a local pub and assaulting the police officers that tried to arrest him. It would be four years before he actually returned home.
The promise made by the priest was eventually honored but not for two years. Instead the baby had health problems that kept him in the custody of the Church. Needing frequent visits to the local hospital with breathing problems. He eventually grew out of the problems after a serious attack when he was five. Only see them return much later in his life.
