November, 1984, Chicago, Illinois

Friday was a lazy day around the house. Sofia booked her flight home, and wasn’t very happy with what she had to do.

“We have finals on the 21st, so I have to stay until then. The only reasonable time to leave is Friday night at 5:00pm. That gets me to Heathrow the next morning, and then I take a flight to Landvetter. Mom wants me home Saturday night for a dinner at her parents’ house. I’m going to be a complete zombie!”

“Is your Friday exam early or late?”

“Early. What’s your schedule? It has to be odd with working two days.”

“Three exams - one on Monday, one on Wednesday, one on Friday. The Friday one is in the morning like yours.”

“Can I have Thursday night to say goodbye?” she grinned.

“I think we can manage that! We’re having our Party on Saturday evening. Most of us will drive or fly home on Sunday. Some of our friends will be gone, I’m sure, but others will be here. Charlie already said she’ll be here, and so did Jorge. The schedule this year sucks since we don’t have a full week off before Christmas. When do you come back?”

“Mom wanted me to stay until the 13th but I told her that was nuts. I need a few days to get adjusted to the time again. I’m flying in on the 10th.”

“Tatyana will be gone, but Joyce will be here on the 11th. She’ll sleep in a guest room.”

“How is she?”

“No change so far. I talked to her a week ago or so. She’ll have another checkup in December. Hopefully things will be OK then and she can get on with her life.”

“Did you really promise to father a child with her if she had to have a hysterectomy?”

“I did. It’s like the situation with Elyse. But at this point, it looks like it’s not going to be necessary.”

“You could have kids by five different women! Do you know how crazy that is?”

“It’s just the way my life has gone. I don’t see anything wrong with it. The kids will be loved and cared for. It’s not like I’m shirking my responsibility.”

“How did I get myself into this?” she sighed.

“Hormones!” I replied with a silly grin. “You were a horny fifteen-year-old and couldn’t wait to drag me to your bed! And then you couldn’t stay away!”

“Jerk!” she laughed. “That was a rhetorical question!”

“Be sure you write the flight numbers and times on the chalk board for me.”

“I will. What’s the plan for the rest of the day?” she asked.

“I don’t have one, really. I was going to try to finish my book, but if there’s something you want to do, just say so.”

“Let’s go ice skating! I checked and the rink on West Madison has open skating all day today.”

I agreed and we got our things together. I’d bought skates when I’d come home from Sweden and though I hadn’t skated in years, they were on the shelf in my closet. I got them, and we invited everyone else to come along, but nobody else knew how to skate.

Jorge looked up, “No thanks! Last year I got dragged to go skating with some of the guys at the dorms, and I ended up doing a beautiful split when this little kid flashed by and I couldn’t stop! I ended up with my jacket tied around my waist like a skirt the rest of the evening!”

Between chuckles from all of us, I made sure that there were keys available in case anyone else was going out, and then Sofia and I headed downtown.

I was fairly rusty from not skating since I’d been in Sweden for Katt’s wedding, but once again, it came back fairly quickly. Sofia and I skated hand-in-hand and drank hot chocolate when we took breaks. We ate lunch after skating and then did some Christmas shopping and finally headed back to the house in Hyde Park around 4:30pm.

After dinner, Sofia and I used the sauna, though we skipped the whirlpool. Afterwards, we went up to my room to shower. As I often did, I pulled her to me, her back to my front, and gently rubbed her clit until she came. I teased her, as I usually did, by lodging my shaft between her butt cheeks and pulling her back tight against me. She’d taken to wiggling her butt a bit, but it had never gone past that.

I decided to give her a second orgasm, and this time I pulled her hair away and sucked gently on her earlobe. Sofia groaned almost immediately, having a small orgasm. It happened so quickly that I gave her a third. She was panting hard when the last orgasm passed and turned to hug me tight, pressing her breasts against me.

“Can I do something for you?” she whispered.

I cupped her butt cheek, and then gently slid my finger across her hole.

She laughed, “You! You’re turning into a dirty old man!”

“Turning into?” I laughed. “And what’s this ‘old man’ stuff?”

“Isn’t that the same in English?”

“It is. I suspect every language has that idiom!”

“So, IS there something I can do for you?”

“Turn around!” I grinned.

“Oh no you don’t!” she giggled, lowering herself to her knees and slowly taking me into her mouth.

Sofia gave me a slow, sensual blowjob and then rose back to her feet and kissed me.

“Was that a good substitute?” she grinned.

“It was great! And don’t worry about it, I was just teasing about that before. You shouldn’t do anything you don’t like or don’t feel comfortable doing.”

“You’ve really done that with girls? More than once?”

“Yes. But forget it. Come on, let’s go to bed!”

We made love and fell asleep in each other’s arms. When I awoke early on Saturday morning, I opened my eyes and saw the clock was still shy of my normal 5:00am wake up time. Sofia’s head was nestled against my chest as she was sleeping cuddled against my side, her breasts softly pressing against me. That was enough for my dick to start stirring. I carefully rolled her on to her back and slid down. She responded to my touch on the inside of her knees and spread her legs apart. I kissed her labia gently and she moaned, and opened her eyes. I looked up and she smiled.

I started slowly, and her body, barely roused from sleep, began moving to match my slow strokes. She moaned and I felt her pussy contracting around my dick. She was close herself, so I sped up slightly. Finally, she bucked against me, groaning in her own orgasm, just as I began spurting into her.

“Good morning sleepyhead!”

She smiled and sighed, “I could get used to being wakened like this!”

“I was tempted to literally wake you up by pushing into you, but I needed consent.”

“You can wake me any way you like!” she grinned.

“Any way?” I leered.

“Oh for Pete’s sake!” she said in English and laughed. She switched back to Swedish, “You are so bad!”

“I am! And you love it!” I grinned.

I got out of bed and she followed me so that we could shower, and then we went down to breakfast. Penny was still in Florida at her dad’s house, so she wasn’t going to be here for our programming time, so I spent the time reading the paper and drinking tea. I went to my karate lesson and when I came back I saw Bethany’s car. She’d left Milford fairly early to make it by 11:15am. I gave her a quick hug and went up to shower and dress.

After lunch, Bethany settled into my office with my journal and Leila took the time to show me how to make proper Turkish coffee. The trick was, she said, to make sure there was enough foam on the top, which gave it a unique flavor. We talked about milk and sugar, though I wouldn’t usually use those since I preferred my coffee straight. It was crystal clear from her voice and body language that she wanted another chance, but I was sure that wouldn’t pass muster with Sofia.

I let the flirting pass by, much to Leila’s disappointment, because Sofia and I hadn’t discussed the ground rules, and she’d interposed herself between Alejandra, Leila, and me a few times the previous days. Leila and I finished our coffee and I went to check on Bethany. She was madly scribbling away in her notebook and looked up when I came in, bringing her some tea.

“How far are you?” I asked.

“I’m skimming some, so I’m at the point when you and Jennifer are fixing your relationship. Really, I’m looking for interactions between you and your sister, and you and your mom. I do want to read the other stuff, but I want to get more of what I need for my paper.”

“Did you talk to Stephanie?” I asked.

“For about four hours on Wednesday afternoon. She is most definitely not a victim in any way, shape, or form. I knew that from before, but to hear her talk about it, nobody will ever become that close to you. It was a bit gross to talk to her about my brother, but he seems to have treated her fairly well and, um, satisfied her. But he couldn’t deal with her starting up with you again.”

“Do you blame him?” I asked.

“No. I don’t. Except for Melanie and Jennifer, I guess everyone had difficulty with it in one way or another.”

“Very true. And honestly, for both our sakes, I’m glad that it’s over. She and I will always be very close, but our sexual relationship was interfering with everything else in our lives. It had to end so that we could move on.”

“Yes, it did. I’m curious, though. The way you wrote it, it seems like that was the best sex you have ever had and nothing comes close. Is that a problem?”

“Remember, that was the seventeen and eighteen year old me writing that. I’ve learned why that was the case, and while what Stephanie and I had was special and unique, I now know how to achieve that kind of sexual intimacy with anyone.”

“Oh? What’s the secret?” she asked.

“True intimacy isn’t about sex. That’s the most important thing that Anala taught me. If you have that, and add sex to it, well, then it’s out of this world. You know that, I’m sure.”

“You versus Gene, even allowing for his serious lack of experience compared to you.”

“Yes. What was it that made our first time so good?”

“We knew each other pretty well. The same was true for you and Jennifer as well as you and Becky. And Kara, of course.”

“Exactly. The girls that are core are ones I really, really got to know well before having sex. The one exception is Sofia, but we didn’t do it for months and months after the first couple of times, so you could apply that to my relationship with her as well. Tatyana and I weren’t quite as close, but we did take it slowly.”

“Which is why I don’t worry about your dalliances, really. I mean, well, you know what I mean.”

“I do. You wish it were otherwise, but you know that if I take them to bed quickly they won’t be a threat, so to speak.”

“You haven’t mentioned Penny.”

“It’s the age difference. Six years is a lot at this point. Sure, we’re compatible sexually, but then again, I’m compatible sexually with just about any female you can point to!”

“Asshole!” she said with a laugh. “But I get your point. How is this new plan of Sofia’s going to work?”

“It doesn’t limit me from being with any of the girls I’ve been with before, but new girls would need approval from you, Kara, and Sofia.”

She smiled, “Kara will give you blanket permission at this point. She’s content to just make love with you and be with you. You heard her plan. For me, for now, just be smart. I’d also suggest rubbers with any new girls to prevent any accidents or worse, another Becky situation. You never objected to those, so I can’t imagine it’s a major hardship. If and when you propose, we’ll set some ground rules.”

“If and when?” I asked with an arched eyebrow.

“Oh, I’ve got a serious leg up on everyone, I know that. And honestly, having access to your journals is like cheating. But all’s fair in love and war. And this is both!” she smirked.

I found it interesting that both Sofia and Bethany thought that they had an advantage based on something that the other one didn’t know. Bethany was certainly in a better position, as she could easily discern what I’d told Sofia, and even if she didn’t, being my best friend was a major advantage for her. I wondered if I shouldn’t just ask Bethany to marry me right then and there and follow Kara’s outline.

“Maybe I should just let you and Sofia duke it out and whoever wins lets me know!”

“No way! You have to decide. She might take herself out of competition in the end, if she doesn’t think you can commit the way she needs you to. I see the way you are with her. You really love her deeply and you could decide she’s the best one for you. As you’ve said, Kara, Sofia, Tatyana, and Penny all provide a slightly different answer to your question, and we each meet your needs in a unique way. As your best friend, I want you to decide on the girl who you feel best meets your needs in the way you need them met. As your Sweetheart, I want that to be me!”

“You are my Sweetheart!” I said. “I’ll leave you to your reading. I’m going to go find Sofia. When are you going home tomorrow?”

“After dinner. I want to get a full day of research in,” she answered. “Where am I sleeping?”

“Sofia’s or Cindi’s bed. I didn’t feel right displacing Sofia when she’d assumed she was going to have me until tomorrow.”

“And you shouldn’t. I came to do research, not get laid. Not that I would object to that!” she grinned.

“Take a number and get in line! Alejandra and Leila want another shot, but Sofia’s doing her best to keep those wolves at bay!”

“Good luck to her with that!” she laughed.

I went to hang out with Sofia for the afternoon. About 2:00pm I heard my phone ring and by the time I got to the office Bethany had answered it.

“Steve, it’s someone named Scott,” she said.

I was surprised, because it was a Saturday and I hadn’t been to work and all of our class assignments were up to date.

“Hi Scott. What’s up?”

“Are you free for lunch on Monday?” I asked.

“Sure. I usually eat with my girlfriend, but I can change those plans.”

“OK. Come to the faculty lounge. You and I are having lunch with Doctor Bauer.”

“What’s this about?” I asked.

“We’ll discuss that at lunch,” he said.

“OK. Thanks, Scott,” I said and hung up after we exchanged goodbyes.

“What was that about?” Bethany asked.

“I have no clue. He said that we’re having lunch with the Computer Science Department head, Doctor Bauer. But when I asked what it was about, he said we’d discuss it at lunch.”

“Is anything going on that might warrant it?” she asked.

“Not that I can think of. Maybe it’s about nominating me for valedictorian. I won’t get it, though. It almost always goes to an engineer or an architect.”

“You can’t think of anything else?”

“No. I have A’s in all my courses and I received glowing reviews from Scott for my work at Nuvatec. Maybe it’s about the Software Development class. It was kind of an experiment this semester. Anyway, I’m not worried about it.”

“Let me know what comes up,” she said.

I promised that I would then went back to Sofia who was with Leila and Alejandra. Jorge and George had disappeared somewhere, and I hadn’t seen them since breakfast. Sofia would be taking her friends back to Loyola first thing in the morning, so she asked them if there was anything that they wanted to do. Leila smirked but said no. Alejandra just said no. I knew what Leila wanted, but Sofia didn’t seem to be in a mood to allow it.

Jorge and George surfaced at dinner time and joined us for the last meal of the week. I was going to drive them back to IIT, along with Wen at the same time Sofia was taking the girls to Loyola. After dinner, we all walked to the ice cream shop on Hyde Park Boulevard and I spent a bit of time with Bethany before bed.

On Sunday morning, I woke Sofia as I had on Saturday, agreeing with her that it was indeed a wonderful way to wake up. Even though I was in the kitchen at 6:30, Bethany had already made coffee and was in my office reading and taking notes.

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 5 Housemates

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 63 Back to Work

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. Your guess is as good as anyone’s right about now.” “Steve, do you have a minute?”...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

July, 1982, Milford, Ohio I woke up early on Friday morning to make breakfast for Kara and her mom before she went to work. Mrs. Blanchard was surprised, but very pleased. After her mom left for work, Kara gave me a fierce kiss. “Thanks for staying in and cooking breakfast for us,” Kara said. “I hope that doesn’t cause you trouble with Stephanie, with you breaking your normal routine.” “Don’t worry about it,” I said, kissing her back. “We got in a bit later than I expected, and she’ll...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 38 Jennifer

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois After Rosie left, I stripped the sheets from my bed, as well as the cover of the duvet, and tossed everything into the washing machine. I lit a lavender candle in the room, and then swept and dusted. I did a quick spot-check of the rest of the house and noticed that the tub in the sauna needed to be cleaned. I scrubbed it, then mopped the sauna floor with a damp sponge mop. I finished cleaning the sauna about the time the washing machine finished, so I moved...

May 26, 1991, Iron Mountain, Michigan “Shall we see if we can find a farm?” I asked at breakfast on Sunday morning. “That sounds like a great idea,” Jessica said. “There’s a visitor’s bureau in town,” Kara said. “I saw it when we were here the first time.” “I’m sorry I ruined that vacation,” Jessica said. “Ruined?” I protested. “Are you kidding? Getting you back was way more important than a few days of vacation!” “I agree,” Kara added. “Jess, you know exactly how bad off Steve was...

August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The rest of the week proceeded as expected - class on Wednesday, as well as the usual visit from Penny, work on Thursday, and class on Friday. Kara and I had lunch together at IIT, Sofia practiced her driving and parking, and I hung out with Mark Agnini after class for beers. Staci and I got into a couple of interesting debates about the Old Testament that Mark had to break up to allow others in the class to participate. She was very much of the ‘directly...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 7 Reaching the Peak

March 25, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What time do I need to have you home?” “8:00pm will be fine,” Misty replied. “My parents are in Normal visiting my brother at Illinois State. They aren’t supposed to be home before 10:00pm.” Misty and I were in my car on the way to the NIKA apartment which, fortunately, was not being used. With our expansion, it was in more or less regular use, and that meant I didn’t have access to it as often as I would have liked. I was glad there had been a delay in...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 7 Setting the Course of My Life

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 6 SamanthaChapter 21 Georg and Maria

September 7, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “That went reasonably well,” Michelle said when her parents drove off. “There were a few times I thought my expression would give away something I shouldn’t. You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. Thank you!” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “So, what’s left?” I asked. “To visit UofC tomorrow and formally withdraw from classes. To spend some time with you and your...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 14 A Southern Belle a Surprise Proposal two Cheerleaders an Old Flame and a Girl Back Home Part I

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. I didn’t get much reading done because I was thinking about Tatyana, which led me to...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 9 KamiChapter 38 And Sometimes It Stinks To Be Big

January 23, 1996, Chicago, Illinois “Father, bless!” I said, greeting Father Basil with upturned palms. “Bless you, Stephen,” he said as I kissed his hand. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. We placed our food orders right away and he left to put them in with the kitchen. “I’m not quite sure how to address this, so I’m just going to ask you bluntly. Are you the father of Michelle’s baby?” I shook my...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 8 NIKAChapter 68 The Rules

June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

December 5, 2000, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota “I had a good time last night,” I said. “I was surprised you invited a friend!” Mary laughed as we walked into the exam room, “Naomi had a good time as well. You know what a Resident’s life is like.” I nodded, “No social life.” “Exactly. You guys seemed to hit it off pretty well.” “Yes, but I’m not here for that!” “You’re everywhere for that, and you know it!” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Let’s just say that you hit the sweet spot -...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 25 The Puzzle and the Cat Part II

March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt. When she woke, she hopped out of bed and pulled a robe out of her closet and handed it to me. “There’s a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. Go have your shower, then we’ll have breakfast after I have my shower.” I quickly showered and brushed my teeth, and went back to Katt’s room. She went to shower and came back a few minutes later. She dressed, and I got a very good look at her sexy body...

April 5, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “You missed cuddles this morning!” Birgit said accusingly when I walked into the house about 9:30am. “I know, Pumpkin, but I had a work emergency and had to go see Aunt Joyce and Grandpa A.” “And now we have to get ready for karate!” “I know. We’ll have some family time this afternoon. I don’t have any plans.” “Good!” I hugged her and the rest of the kids, then went to find Kara. We hugged and kissed, and went straight upstairs to get ready for...

September 3, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Good morning, Sensei,” I said, bowing to Sensei Jim. “Good morning!” he said waving me to a chair in his office. “How was your trip?” I asked. “Enlightening. I spent most of my time acting as a manservant to Sensei Robert and Sensei Hiro.” “He who will lead, must first serve,” I said. “Someday, I’m going to send you to Sensei Hiro, should he live long enough. You understand.” “Does that mean you are now 6th Dan?” I...

October 29, 2000, Chicago, Illinois Birgit followed me as far as the stairs, then scooted upstairs when I went to the front door and opened it. “Hi!” Sophie said. “Hi!” I replied and held the door open so she could come into the house. I closed the door behind her then led her to my study where I waited until she went in, and then walked in, closing the door behind me. I nodded to one of the wingback chairs, she sat down in one, and I sat down in the other. “Is something wrong?” she...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 61 Anala Part II

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I walked in the near 90°F heat to Carla’s place. I was grateful that the humidity of the morning had dropped significantly; otherwise the heat would have been unbearable. By the time I walked up the steps to the apartment over the photography studio and knocked on her door, I had broken into a light sweat. Carla answered almost immediately and invited me inside her studio apartment. The air was moderately cool, and the window air conditioner was running full...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 21 He Will Tell Thee What Thou Shalt Do

July 1982, Milford, Ohio On Tuesday morning, I kissed Kara goodbye and headed to my parents’ house for my usual morning routine with my little sister. She was happy that I could spend the morning with her and asked to take a walk, so we weren’t in the house with my mom. “Let me guess — this walk will end in the clearing,” I said with a smile. “Yes,” she said, taking my hand as we walked down Overlook towards Klondyke. As usual, we turned around and walked back, taking the path to the...

March 13, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Steve!” Ailea said when she opened the door. “Hi,” I replied, accepting the offered hug. There was no touching of lips, just of cheeks, and I wondered if I’d misread her intentions at her birthday lunch, or if, perhaps, she detected my reluctance to return the offered affection. “Lunch is ready, so go ahead and sit. I’ll bring it in from the kitchen.” I went to the low table, sat down, and a minute later, Ailea brought miso soup and sushi, our usual...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 72 An Explosive Discovery

April 3, 1997, Dallas, Texas “Remember what I said about drinking too much,” I said, as I poured bourbon into three cups. We’d stopped at a liquor store, bought a bottle of Blanton’s, and then returned to the small suite I’d reserved at the Westin. Deborah’s room was down the hall, and Krissy’s was two floors below. Krissy’s comment had caught me a bit off guard, but I hadn’t reacted visibly. I didn’t know her quite well enough to know if she’d been teasing with Deborah, so I was being...

March 28, 1991, Chicago, Illinois “This day belongs to you, Kara!” I said when the three of us woke on Thursday morning. “Happy birthday!” Jessica said. “Thanks,” Kara replied happily. “I think I’d like an amazing birthday fuck from our husband, and then a nice loving shower with my wife!” Kara said. “Do we have enough time?” I asked. Jessica giggled, “I set the alarm for thirty minutes earlier!” “Then let’s not waste any of it!” I said pulling Kara to me. Kara’s squeals as I plunged...

September 1, 1987, Chicago, Illinois “I heard that you have some kind of plan to help Ed,” I said to Connie. “There’s no plan,” she replied. “A witness who saw the shopkeeper alive after Ed left came forward.” That sounded convenient, and I wondered if the witness was real or someone that Anthony had put forward to solve the problem. Certainly, the videotape was real, because I couldn’t imagine how Anthony could have faked that, but the witness? Who knew? “So is he being released? Or is...

August 17, 1997, Chicago, Illinois We finished lunch and Marissa and the younger kids went to play, but Natalie sat with the adults to talk, with coffee, tea, or soft drinks. The Sarcus were very comfortable, but the Heaths were still struggling. But, vitally, they hadn’t left and hadn’t insisted Natalie leave the group. “Can you explain how you developed this attitude and approach?” Chris asked. A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 6 A Tale of Three Cities Part III

July 1979 — Falkenberg, Sweden On Friday, when I got back from my run, Pam was in her bra and panties again. I whistled at her, she giggled, then finished dressing. I showered, and we went to breakfast and finished up our last day. Once class was done, we were pretty much free. On Saturday, we’d have several optional activities and then on Sunday we’d head back to our host families. After dinner on Friday, I took Pam’s hand and we walked towards the river. July 1980, Over the North Atlantic We reached cruising altitude, and I settled back to read my book. Pam raised the armrest between us, snuggled close to me and read as well. The cabin crew offered drinks, and I had my first Coke in a year! Meal service began about an hour and a half into the flight. After the cabin crew picked up the trays and offered drinks again, they passed once more, offering headsets for the movie. Trevor and Maria took them, but Pam and I didn’t, instead we turned on...

December 1, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “How bad?” I asked. “Well, if my initial, off-the-cuff analysis is correct...” “Which it usually is,” I interrupted. “Thanks. So, if I’m right, the MBA playbook says cost-cutting, including rounds of layoffs, reductions in benefits, and increased fees for our products and services.” “That would wreck the company,” I said. “But it would improve the bottom line today!” Elyse countered. “And that’s how you know why I will never go public and never...

November 8, 1993, Chicago, Illinois A dark fog swirled before my eyes as I tried to take stock. My head hurt, badly. I felt something on my face and realized, dimly, it was an oxygen mask. My right hand was uncomfortable and I recognized the feeling of an IV and pulse-oximeter. My left arm ached fiercely. On my chest I felt the pads and wires of an EKG. I didn’t feel anything else wrong as I continued taking inventory. I tried to open my eyes, but the fog didn’t clear. I tried to speak, but...

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois In the morning Anala and I ran as we had the previous time, then showered together, carefully washing each other’s bodies in an intimate but non-sexual way. After our shower we went to the kitchen and I made breakfast and we sat down to eat. “Steve, may I make a suggestion?” she asked. “Sure.” “Broaden your circle of friends. He did, and I sat in the usual chair across from him. “She has a real problem, you know that, right?” he asked. “I do. May 1979 The limo dropped me at home about 9:00pm. I took my stuff to my room, stripped, and hung up the tux. The rest of the things went into the hamper. I took a shower, put on shorts and a t-shirt, and walked down the hall into my dad’s office. I saw no reason to put this off any longer. “Stephen, you need to explain yourself!” my mom demanded. “I was in Mrs. McGrath’s, well, Mrs. Sanders’ now, wedding, as I said.” “You walked her down the aisle! When we finished, Karin held me tight and refused to let me move off of her. “Sleep there, please,” she whispered. July 1983, Milford, Ohio My drive to Ohio was filled with wild swings of emotion. I’d told Nancy that I’d come straight to her house and asked her to call my dad and let him know so that Stephanie wasn’t worried. June 1980, On the Train, and in Abisko, Sweden As the train sped across the Swedish countryside towards Stockholm, I reflected on the fact that there were less than three weeks to go until I had to be in Copenhagen to board a flight home. I was torn between wanting to go home and wanting to stay, but in the end, I didn’t have a choice.
