“Seriously?” Jessica laughed.

Kara and I had been watching the race at the North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina when Jessica got up from her nap. It was another short track, though it was about a tenth-of-a-mile longer than Bristol. Surprisingly, Bill had qualified 2nd. Even more surprisingly, he led 18 laps early on, but after that, he couldn’t stay with the leaders.

“Yes, seriously,” I said. “I think her plan all along was to get me to help her become 2nd Dan. Sex was just a means to an end. The thing is, I would have helped her if she’d just asked.”

“Maybe she was embarrassed,” Kara said. “And by challenging you she ‘saved face’, so to speak.”

“But how did she know I’d win?” I asked.

“Maybe she planned to let you win,” Jessica said.

“I don’t think so. She was so ticked at me that she couldn’t see straight. And I’m sure that wasn’t an act.”

“What did you do, Tiger?”

“I swept her leg, which is against Sensei Jim’s sparring rules. He taught us how to do it and how to defend against it, but it can be really dangerous, so he forbids it in sparring. We can only do it in specific, controlled practice sessions. Jolene was so enraged at that point that she just came at me without thinking and I took her down twice to win. It wasn’t fake rage, either.”

“So how do you help her?” Jessica asked.

“It’s about achieving inner peace and exercising self-control. That’s what she lacked yesterday. I saw it, and used it to my advantage today.”

“I’ll say!” Kara teased.

“I tried to talk her out of it, but she insisted. And yes, Babe, she’s been tested. She works in a medical office at UofC.”

“I’ve never seen her.”

“One of the physician offices, not the hospital. And she’s in administration, not a nurse or doctor.”

“And you used a rubber?”

“I remember the rules, Babe,” I reassured her. “Come cuddle with me while we watch the race, please.”

She sat down next to me and I held her while the race continued. Unfortunately, one of those leaders was Dale Earnhardt, who, despite a late tire problem, finished third, and on the lead lap. Terry Labonte won the race, and Bill finished 10th, the first car three laps down. That finish moved him up to third in points, but because he’d finished behind Earnhardt and Rusty Wallace, who finished fourth, Bill was now 60 points behind in Winston Cup points.

“Good and bad,” I said, stopping the tape and rewinding. “He’s in third with only Ironhead and Rusty in front of him, but he lost ground. He’s 60 points behind. And next week is another short track - Martinsville.”

“Have faith, Snuggle Bear. Have faith.”

“Hi Julio!” I said when Julio Moreno sat down across the table from Dave, Alonzo, and me.

“I hear you have two positions open,” he said. “So Jefferson and I can both get offers, right?”

“We’re also interviewing students at Loyola and University of Chicago,” Dave said. “So there’s a bit of competition!”

Julio nodded, but he had a confident smile on his face. He interviewed well, as did Jefferson Greene, and a third student, Sharon Oliver. The other students we interviewed didn’t impress me at all, and I let Dave know that at the end of the day.

“Did you have a favorite of the three?” he asked.

“I’ll never tell,” I chuckled. “I don’t look at them that way, because I’m only exercising a veto. All three of them are good.”

“Does he always do this?” Alonzo asked.

“Yes,” Dave said. “Getting Steve to say anything about a candidate, other than his veto or not, is nearly impossible.”

“Alonzo, if I tell Dave who to hire, is he really in charge?” I asked.

“No, I guess not.”

“That’s why,” I said.

“Happy Birthday, Tiger!” Jessica said when we woke up on Friday morning.

“Thanks!” I said, accepting her kiss.

“Happy Birthday, Snuggle Bear!” Kara said.

“Thanks,” I answered, accepting her kiss as well.

“We’ll celebrate properly when you get home from work! I’m sorry about tomorrow night,” Jessica said.

Elyse had planned a party for Saturday night instead of a Guys’ and Girls’ night. She’d also invited Doctor Barton and his family.

“It’s OK,” I said. “I understand. Besides, I have you tonight!”

Jessica laughed, “I can’t WAIT to hear what you do when Fawn asks you to dance!”

I groaned, “I think I’ll just avoid the attic the entire night.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” she teased.

“Let’s get a shower and have some breakfast. You can tease me later!”

We each took a quick shower and went down to breakfast. After we ate, the girls walked me to the office, and after a kiss from each, they headed back home.

“Happy Birthday!” Kimmy said brightly when she came to the office. She was the first in a long line of NIKA employees to wish me ‘Happy Birthday’. It was a Friday, so Penny and Tasha weren’t at the office and I didn’t get my usual tight hugs and kisses from them, but everyone else either shook my hand or gave me a light hug.

At lunch, there was a company party in the conference room. Kimmy had ordered sandwiches, chips, and a small sheet cake. They sang Happy Birthday before we ate, and the cake was cut right away. That way anyone who needed to leave could do so when necessary, or even eat at their desk if they had to. I stayed the entire time so that nobody felt like I didn’t care. Kimmy was in and out because of answering the phones, but she was there at the end of the hour.

“Thanks for arranging everything,” I said.

“You’re welcome!” she said, giving me a quick kiss on the cheek.

She started cleaning up and I watched her very cute butt sway as she moved around the room. I shook my head a couple of times to clear it. There was NO WAY that was happening. I filed the thoughts I was having in that area of my brain reserved for improbable fantasies, and went back to my office. I spent the rest of the afternoon working on some changes to the legal software, shutting down a bit early so that I could head home to Jessica and Kara.

“Have a Happy Birthday!” Kimmy said as I walked past her desk.

She flashed me a huge smile that spoke volumes. But they were volumes I wasn’t going to read.

“Thanks, Kimmy,” I said. “Have a good weekend!”

When I arrived home, my wives hugged and kissed me, and insisted that I relax in the ‘Indian’ room while they made dinner. I went in and sat down, and a couple of minutes later Elyse came in and sat down.

“They sent me to keep you company while they cook!”

“Did they put any restrictions on HOW you could keep me company?” I chuckled.

“No. What did you have in mind?” she said, arching an eyebrow.

“Come share the basket chair with me and cuddle,” I said.

She was out of her chair like a shot. She sat in my lap, snuggled close, and put her head on my shoulder. I wrapped my arms around her and held her close. Elyse sighed contentedly and I held her while we waited for my wives. This had become a pattern for Elyse. When I was with her, we usually made love once, then cuddled for the rest of the time, often with Matthew as well.

We cuddled for nearly an hour before Kara came to tell us that dinner was ready. Elyse gave me a quick kiss, and left the room. Jessica brought in a tray with the food, plates, and glasses. The three of us sat down on floor pillows at the low table to eat. When we finished, Kara went to get the cake that Jessica had baked that afternoon, and they sang to me. We cut the cake, and when we’d eaten, I opened my presents.

“So, now what?” I grinned.

“Anything you want, Tiger,” Jessica said.

“I just want to be with my wives,” I said. “It doesn’t matter what we do.”

“Then let’s go up to bed,” Kara said. “You and Jess can make love and then we can cuddle.”

“Is there anything I can do for you?” I asked.

“You’re already doing it by loving me.”

April 23, 1988, Chicago, Illinois

Our friends started arriving around 5:00pm, which was a bit earlier than the usual Guys’ Night and Girls’ Night Out. The surprise was when Alex and Samantha Saunders arrived.

“Happy Birthday,” Alex said.

“Thanks! How’d you manage the night off?” I asked.

“I told you to invite me to your next party!” Alex said. “I can take a very occasional night off.”

“Well, I’m glad you’re here!”

Penny and Terry arrived shortly after. Terry had come as Penny’s guest; I hadn’t extended a general invitation to people at NIKA. I knew Zeke would be arriving at some point, because Tasha had told me that she’d invited him. Another surprise was to see Barry, but because Elyse had her arm looped around his, I made the assumption that she and Kara had talked, and that Elyse might be making a special project out of the nerdy chemical engineer.

The Bartons arrived and I could tell that Fawn was almost giddy with excitement that she could attend one of our parties. Kara, Sofia, and Leila had all promised to keep a close eye on her, because some of my single Navy friends would be in attendance, and Fawn could easily be mistaken for being eighteen. And THAT was trouble I just didn’t need, and neither did the Navy.

The temperature was in the low 40’s, but Dave, Pete, and Kurt had insisted on grilling, so they cooked burgers and brats while some of the girls set out the fixings and side dishes. We had let everyone know that the evening was going to be informal, so people ate when they were ready, rather than everyone coming together at once.

About 8:00pm, everyone gathered to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ and we cut the cake. I took mine and headed for the basement to play pool and hang out with some of the guys. I had done my best to stay out of the attic room, but around 9:00pm Penny hunted me down and dragged me upstairs the dance floor.

“Not too close, Penny,” I whispered. “Terry’s here.”

She ignored me and melted into my arms. I saw Terry smile, shake his head, and roll his eyes. He had certainly seen Penny and me together at work, and how we acted around each other, so this probably neither surprised nor bothered him.

“Do you remember four years ago?” she whispered.

“Like it was yesterday, Pretty Penny!” I answered quietly. “I’ll never forget that!”

“Me neither,” she sighed.

When the song finished, I walked over to the fridge to get a Coke and Terry stopped me.

“Hey, Boss!” he said. “Thanks for letting me come tonight!”

“You’re welcome, but thank Penny; she’d the one who invited you! Just be nice to her, she’s a very sweet young woman.”

“Nothing but!” he said. “Can I ask you a question?”

“Absolutely.”

“Is there any way I can get regular invites? I know you kind of keep personal and business separate, but I’d hope you could let me into your circle of friends.”

“Come to breakfast with us next Saturday morning. We meet alternate Saturdays at Bucktown Bistro. It’s run by Alex, that guy over there with the smoking hot brunette hanging on his arm.”

“The one who looks like she’s half his age?” Terry laughed.

“She IS half his age! He graduated High School a year after her mother did or something like that!”

“Damn!”

“That’s pretty much what everyone says!”

I offered him a drink and he accepted, so I poured shots of bourbon for each of us. I’d have to remember to let Dave know that I’d invited Terry so he wasn’t surprised when Terry showed up at breakfast. I finished my bourbon and was just about to make my escape from the attic when a very pissed-off Fawn cornered me.

“Leave!” she growled at Terry.

He looked at me, I shrugged, and he walked away.

“Did you tell all those guys to stay away from me?” she asked angrily.

“I asked the girls to keep an eye on you because ‘those guys’ are all Naval officers and you’re underage!”

“None of them will dance with me!” she complained. “It’s not fair!”

“Fawn, I promised your mom and dad that I’d watch out for you. You’re awfully young to be at one of these parties.”

“I’m almost sixteen!” she protested.

“Yes, and the drinking age is 21. You’re a minor. The next youngest person here is Penny, and she’s nineteen.”

I realized I’d made a mistake as soon as the words left my mouth.

“She’s not 21 either! And you let her come to your parties! I’ve seen her here! And I just saw you dance with her!”

“Penny and I have been friends for five years. And she works for me. And she’s at least in college, not High School.”

“I want to have fun! I want to dance!” she insisted.

I seriously considered getting Jesse from Jenna, one of my sister’s friends, who was babysitting for us this evening. Jesse would LOVE to dance with Fawn, and he’d be a safe dance. But that wouldn’t placate her; in fact it would likely upset her even more. The song that was playing was Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley, and I figured it was relatively safe.

“I’ll dance with you,” I said.

She smiled and grabbed my hand and dragged me onto the dance floor. I saw Kara across the room smirking, and I suppressed the urge to stick my tongue out at her. Fawn and I danced, but because it wasn’t a slow dance song, I managed to avoid touching her, just dancing to the beat of the tune. When the song finished, I took a step back and turned towards the bar.

“Stop!” Fawn demanded. “I want another dance!”

I turned back just as the next song started, and I groaned very softly. The song was Almost Paradise, from the movie Footloose. This was EXACTLY the reason I’d wanted to avoid the attic, and I’d have promised Penny anything she’d wanted to avoid coming upstairs. Well, almost anything, because Penny apparently still had ‘sex with Steve’ on her ‘to do’ list. I didn’t see how I could avoid the dance without causing a scene, and the last thing I needed was Fawn running out of the attic in tears.

I decided that the safest approach was the Junior High standard hands on hips and shoulders style, that would keep daylight between us. That worked for about ten seconds, before Fawn stepped forward, put her arms around me and rested her head on my chest. She felt damned good against me, her small breasts lightly pressing on my chest and her stomach pressing lightly on my hip. It took every ounce of willpower that I had not to have an embarrassing reaction, but I managed, just, to keep things under control.

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 39 TwentyEight

March 18, 1994, Apple Orchard Bed-and-Breakfast near Montpelier, Vermont “This place is fantastic!” Gina gushed when they returned to the great room. “We certainly think so,” Katy laughed. “Steve, are you healthy enough?” “For you, always,” I grinned, knowing what she meant. I got a strange look from Gina, who knew Katy was lesbian and in a committed relationship. I winked at Katy, stood up, and walked over to her. I took her in my arms and looked deeply in her eyes. “You’re up for it?”...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 57 Land of the Rising Sun Part III

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 54 Westward Bound Or is it Eastward

June 15, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “That’s everything, I think,” I said. “My luggage is in the trunk of the car, I have my passport, tickets, and money, both dollars and yen. I can’t think of anything else.” “I’ll see you in five weeks,” Elyse said, giving me a quick hug. “Did you see they rioted in Vancouver last night because they lost the Stanley Cup?” I chuckled, “Only Canadians would riot when they LOSE the Cup! I did see that on the front page of the Trib. Are we ready?” “Michelle and...

A WellLived Life Book 10 The WifeChapter 40 TwentyTwo Part II

April 22, 1985, Chicago, Illinois In the morning, Sofia and I showered together. Contrary to what she’d said in the shower after the sauna, she’d only wanted that one lovemaking session. I did my utmost to make it the best, most loving act we’d ever had and Sofia had cum repeatedly. Now, we were lovingly washing each other, most likely for the last time. “Are you OK?” I asked. “Yes,” she replied with a smile. “Remember what I told you? The worst case scenario was that I would come here and...

April 22, 1983, Chicago, Illinois “So, what’s the plan for tonight?” I asked the girls. “Take a shower and put on some nice clothes. We’re going to meet Dave and Julia,” Elyse said. “Where?” “At the Sig Ep house.” I went to the shower and just as I was getting out, Elyse opened the door. She smiled, blew me a kiss, and said I had a phone call. I brazenly walked past her without bothering to pick up a towel, and picked up the extension in my room. I turned to face Elyse who was standing...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 5 Housemates

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. Your guess is as good as anyone’s right about now.” “Steve, do you have a minute?”...

April 22, 1984, Chicago, Illinois Penny melted into my arms and moaned softly as we kissed. She tasted like cherry, and our tongues tangled, sharing the flavor of the lip gloss. I knew she was in a hurry, but I wanted to take our time and build the pleasure to the explosion that I knew would come. I wanted to savor it, and I knew it would be better for her if she did as well. If Penny had her way, I’d already be inside her! She broke the kiss, panting. “Slowly, Penny,” I said gently. “It’ll...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. The last time had been in the shower where we’d ostensibly gone to clean up afterwards, but instead I ended up taking her from behind as she leaned against the wall of the shower. “I think I’ll have you again, Steve Adams,” she...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 38 Freshman Year Ends

May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 6 SamanthaChapter 21 Georg and Maria

September 7, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “That went reasonably well,” Michelle said when her parents drove off. “There were a few times I thought my expression would give away something I shouldn’t. You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. Thank you!” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “So, what’s left?” I asked. “To visit UofC tomorrow and formally withdraw from classes. To spend some time with you and your...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 14 A Southern Belle a Surprise Proposal two Cheerleaders an Old Flame and a Girl Back Home Part I

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. I didn’t get much reading done because I was thinking about Tatyana, which led me to...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 9 KamiChapter 38 And Sometimes It Stinks To Be Big

January 23, 1996, Chicago, Illinois “Father, bless!” I said, greeting Father Basil with upturned palms. “Bless you, Stephen,” he said as I kissed his hand. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. We placed our food orders right away and he left to put them in with the kitchen. “I’m not quite sure how to address this, so I’m just going to ask you bluntly. Are you the father of Michelle’s baby?” I shook my...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 8 NIKAChapter 68 The Rules

June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

December 5, 2000, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota “I had a good time last night,” I said. “I was surprised you invited a friend!” Mary laughed as we walked into the exam room, “Naomi had a good time as well. You know what a Resident’s life is like.” I nodded, “No social life.” “Exactly. You guys seemed to hit it off pretty well.” “Yes, but I’m not here for that!” “You’re everywhere for that, and you know it!” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Let’s just say that you hit the sweet spot -...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 25 The Puzzle and the Cat Part II

March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt. When she woke, she hopped out of bed and pulled a robe out of her closet and handed it to me. “There’s a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. Go have your shower, then we’ll have breakfast after I have my shower.” I quickly showered and brushed my teeth, and went back to Katt’s room. She went to shower and came back a few minutes later. She dressed, and I got a very good look at her sexy body...

April 5, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “You missed cuddles this morning!” Birgit said accusingly when I walked into the house about 9:30am. “I know, Pumpkin, but I had a work emergency and had to go see Aunt Joyce and Grandpa A.” “And now we have to get ready for karate!” “I know. We’ll have some family time this afternoon. I don’t have any plans.” “Good!” I hugged her and the rest of the kids, then went to find Kara. We hugged and kissed, and went straight upstairs to get ready for...

September 3, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Good morning, Sensei,” I said, bowing to Sensei Jim. “Good morning!” he said waving me to a chair in his office. “How was your trip?” I asked. “Enlightening. I spent most of my time acting as a manservant to Sensei Robert and Sensei Hiro.” “He who will lead, must first serve,” I said. “Someday, I’m going to send you to Sensei Hiro, should he live long enough. You understand.” “Does that mean you are now 6th Dan?” I...

October 29, 2000, Chicago, Illinois Birgit followed me as far as the stairs, then scooted upstairs when I went to the front door and opened it. “Hi!” Sophie said. “Hi!” I replied and held the door open so she could come into the house. I closed the door behind her then led her to my study where I waited until she went in, and then walked in, closing the door behind me. I nodded to one of the wingback chairs, she sat down in one, and I sat down in the other. “Is something wrong?” she...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 61 Anala Part II

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I walked in the near 90°F heat to Carla’s place. I was grateful that the humidity of the morning had dropped significantly; otherwise the heat would have been unbearable. By the time I walked up the steps to the apartment over the photography studio and knocked on her door, I had broken into a light sweat. Carla answered almost immediately and invited me inside her studio apartment. The air was moderately cool, and the window air conditioner was running full...

July 1982, Milford, Ohio On Tuesday morning, I kissed Kara goodbye and headed to my parents’ house for my usual morning routine with my little sister. She was happy that I could spend the morning with her and asked to take a walk, so we weren’t in the house with my mom. “Let me guess — this walk will end in the clearing,” I said with a smile. “Yes,” she said, taking my hand as we walked down Overlook towards Klondyke. As usual, we turned around and walked back, taking the path to the...

March 13, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Steve!” Ailea said when she opened the door. “Hi,” I replied, accepting the offered hug. There was no touching of lips, just of cheeks, and I wondered if I’d misread her intentions at her birthday lunch, or if, perhaps, she detected my reluctance to return the offered affection. “Lunch is ready, so go ahead and sit. I’ll bring it in from the kitchen.” I went to the low table, sat down, and a minute later, Ailea brought miso soup and sushi, our usual...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 72 An Explosive Discovery

April 3, 1997, Dallas, Texas “Remember what I said about drinking too much,” I said, as I poured bourbon into three cups. We’d stopped at a liquor store, bought a bottle of Blanton’s, and then returned to the small suite I’d reserved at the Westin. Deborah’s room was down the hall, and Krissy’s was two floors below. Krissy’s comment had caught me a bit off guard, but I hadn’t reacted visibly. I didn’t know her quite well enough to know if she’d been teasing with Deborah, so I was being...

March 28, 1991, Chicago, Illinois “This day belongs to you, Kara!” I said when the three of us woke on Thursday morning. “Happy birthday!” Jessica said. “Thanks,” Kara replied happily. “I think I’d like an amazing birthday fuck from our husband, and then a nice loving shower with my wife!” Kara said. “Do we have enough time?” I asked. Jessica giggled, “I set the alarm for thirty minutes earlier!” “Then let’s not waste any of it!” I said pulling Kara to me. Kara’s squeals as I plunged...

September 1, 1987, Chicago, Illinois “I heard that you have some kind of plan to help Ed,” I said to Connie. “There’s no plan,” she replied. “A witness who saw the shopkeeper alive after Ed left came forward.” That sounded convenient, and I wondered if the witness was real or someone that Anthony had put forward to solve the problem. Certainly, the videotape was real, because I couldn’t imagine how Anthony could have faked that, but the witness? Who knew? “So is he being released? Or is...

August 17, 1997, Chicago, Illinois We finished lunch and Marissa and the younger kids went to play, but Natalie sat with the adults to talk, with coffee, tea, or soft drinks. The Sarcus were very comfortable, but the Heaths were still struggling. But, vitally, they hadn’t left and hadn’t insisted Natalie leave the group. “Can you explain how you developed this attitude and approach?” Chris asked. I nodded, “It started when I was just a bit younger than Natalie. My mom was a total control...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 6 A Tale of Three Cities Part III

July 1979 — Falkenberg, Sweden On Friday, when I got back from my run, Pam was in her bra and panties again. I whistled at her, she giggled, then finished dressing. I showered, and we went to breakfast and finished up our last day. Once class was done, we were pretty much free. On Saturday, we’d have several optional activities and then on Sunday we’d head back to our host families. After dinner on Friday, I took Pam’s hand and we walked towards the river. It was quiet and peaceful, and...

July 1980, Over the North Atlantic We reached cruising altitude, and I settled back to read my book. Pam raised the armrest between us, snuggled close to me and read as well. The cabin crew offered drinks, and I had my first Coke in a year! Meal service began about an hour and a half into the flight. After the cabin crew picked up the trays and offered drinks again, they passed once more, offering headsets for the movie. Trevor and Maria took them, but Pam and I didn’t, instead we turned on...

July 8, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “Is it really that surprising?” Leah asked. “I suppose not,” I replied. “I just didn’t read too much into the kiss on the cheek.” “I didn’t think it was a good idea to kiss you on the lips with all those people around, because I had no idea who they were or what they would think. You were VERY careful with our dance, so I kind of followed your lead.” Which showed very mature thinking on her part. Both of these girls were exactly the kind of students I...

November 8, 1993, Chicago, Illinois A dark fog swirled before my eyes as I tried to take stock. My head hurt, badly. I felt something on my face and realized, dimly, it was an oxygen mask. My right hand was uncomfortable and I recognized the feeling of an IV and pulse-oximeter. My left arm ached fiercely. On my chest I felt the pads and wires of an EKG. I didn’t feel anything else wrong as I continued taking inventory. I tried to open my eyes, but the fog didn’t clear. I tried to speak, but...

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois In the morning Anala and I ran as we had the previous time, then showered together, carefully washing each other’s bodies in an intimate but non-sexual way. After our shower we went to the kitchen and I made breakfast and we sat down to eat. “Steve, may I make a suggestion?” she asked. “Sure.” “Broaden your circle of friends. Other than me, all of you are white, nominally Christian, 20-year-old Americans. And you don’t invite me to your Sunday...

March 1979 Monday was back to the normal routine of school. Debbie Vaughn, who lived just down the street, would turn fourteen on March 16th and invited me to her birthday party. He did, and I sat in the usual chair across from him. “She has a real problem, you know that, right?” he asked. “I do. May 1979 The limo dropped me at home about 9:00pm. I took my stuff to my room, stripped, and hung up the tux. The rest of the things went into the hamper. I took a shower, put on shorts and a t-shirt, and walked down the hall into my dad’s office. I saw no reason to put this off any longer. “Stephen, you need to explain yourself!” my mom demanded. “I was in Mrs. McGrath’s, well, Mrs. Sanders’ now, wedding, as I said.” “You walked her down the aisle! February, 1983, Chicago, Illinois Our first joining since the previous summer was slow and sweet, trying to express our deep love for each other through the motions of our bodies. When we finished, Karin held me tight and refused to let me move off of her. “Sleep there, please,” she whispered. July 3, 1996, Chicago, Illinois I blinked several times and took a breath before responding. It didn’t help. The best I could do was contain my visceral reaction at her completely out-of-line request and her wrong-headed assumptions when she had NO idea what had happened in my life the previous eight months. “What makes you think you can make that request after refusing to talk to me for nearly eight months? And equally importantly, without explaining Alexi? And without giving me the first...
