Varna sat in her hotel room, feet on the desk, letting her mind drift. She had over the years grown comfortable with the connection she felt with whatever was shut in the coffin shaped object at the back of her ship's hold. She had asked several of the other captains, in as offhand a way as possible when they happened to meet in a bar on the frontier planets they would visit for supplies, or when they were collecting bounty payments for hunting down humans, if they had ever found anything like it before. None of them ever admitted they had. However, the last one she had spoken to, a freighter captain she had known in the army, recommended she looked up an old friend of hers who had an interest in history and human artifacts. She had told Varna that she went to him to sell things she had found on deserted human and Grojan worlds when she needed cash and no questions asked.

They had visited the central worlds to hand in their collection of human ears and collect their bounty. The rest of her crew had gone their separate ways although Petara and Catana had taken Theasa under their wing and the three of them always stuck together. Theasa had never been in the army and she had only just failed the mating ritual when the three of them found her alone working as a barmaid in a rundown Grojani bar. Varna had let her join their little group and she became the baby of the crew. They had been a crewmember short since visiting a frontier planet to get supplies and Galeia, an original member of her crew had suddenly disappeared. She had contacted Varna on her handy com the next day. The impossible had happened, she had found someone and wanted to stay. As there were no such thing as an un-bonded adult male Varna assumed she had been suffering from wishful thinking, but when she saw him hovering in the background during the call she could see the attraction. He was stunning, and at least a head taller than Galeia, which even for a Grojan was big. Varna had wished her well and they had left the planet a crewmember short.

Sisanna always went her own way. She had little in common with the others anyway, and they were happy to let her go. Varna usually returned to the ship once business planet side was concluded. It was after all her home, and the further she got from it the stronger the subconscious pull to return.

She pulled the handy com from her pocket, took a deep breath and dialed the number she had been given. The handy com buzzed a few times before it was answered gruffly in voice only mode. "Yes!"

"Hello, is that Luirlan?"

"Who wants to know?"

"My name is Varna, I was in the army with Messana, she gave me your number and told me you might be able to help me identify something I have found." The video feed came on and Varna found herself looking at an old man with bushy eyebrows and an unfashionable long drooping mustache, his hair white with age.

He glared at her. "Meet me at the junction between Luftan Street and Karr Street in the old quarter in an hour, and come alone." He hung up.

Varna blinked at her blank handy com screen as it quietly hummed with the open connection tone. She thumbed the screen to hang up the call then accessed the city map.

Her hotel was situated in the old quarter, because being a reject, Varna and those like her were not permitted in the main affluent parts of the city or the city center. It was the same on all the central world's cities; rejects were only allowed access to the rundown areas or the Grojani districts, which amounted to much the same thing.

The meeting place was within walking distance, and looking out of the grimy window the evening appeared to be pleasant, and once she had finished the meeting she could find a quiet café for dinner. Varna rose and walked out of her shabby hotel room down the narrow stairs and past the dozing receptionist. She had an almost overwhelming urge to ring the desk bell and make him jump but she thought better of it, pushed open the door and stepped into the busy street. Standing there she could have been anywhere; people in formal business clothes, some in casual dress, both expensive and poor and shabby. Vehicles as varied as the pedestrians made their way up and down the street. Everything, accompanied by noise, dust and smells assailed her senses, a typical city at the end of a working day.

She turned left, and walked along the busy street. No one took any notice of her, everyone intent on their own business, which Varna found comforting in its anonymity. On the frontier planets, women like her were regarded with fear and mistrust. For the likes of Sisanna it was justified, but Varna had found most of the younger generation normal, friendly and trustworthy. She had noticed that there were also more failures recently than there had been in Sisanna's generation and before. It was as if the authorities were tightening up on what an ideal Grojan female should be.

It took her just over three quarters of an hour to reach the meeting place. She stood on the corner with her back to a seedy looking general store so she could see the two streets and no one could come up behind her.

The early evening rush had abated by the time she had arrived and the business people were being replaced by more casually dressed people, going out for the evening Varna supposed. She watched a young couple with a pang of jealousy, hand in hand with eyes only for each other walking along the street. Even though they were lower class Grojan they were still regulated by the same rituals and laws and they had a partnership she would never have.

"Well stop woolgathering and show me your teeth." The gruff voice at her shoulder made her jump - she turned in surprise to face the old man.

"How did you... ?"

He frowned. "Show me your teeth or I'm gone!"

Varna bared her teeth and the old man seemed to relax, he smiled "Good yes, good, such a pretty little thing, such a waste."

"I beg your pardon?" Varna was not sure she liked being referred to as a pretty little thing; it would play havoc with her carefully contrived reputation.

The old man raised a bushy eyebrow and ignored her question. "Do you have a handy com?"

"Yes."

"Then turn it off."

She pulled the handy com from her pocket and turned it off as he requested then held it up for him to see.

The old man nodded. "Good, follow me, I have somewhere quiet and out of the way we can talk, do you like coffee?"

"Coffee? What's coffee?"

He clicked his tongue, turned and started down a side street. "Oh dear, doesn't know what coffee is." Varna had to hurry to keep up with him.

He turned down another street then ducked into a recessed doorway set in what looked like a block of rundown apartments and Varna almost walked right past before realizing where he had gone. She turned and ducked in the door behind him. She found herself in a small and almost empty apartment.

Luirlan indicated a couple of overstuffed lounge chairs. "Please take a seat." Varna sat on one of the chairs. "Good, good, this is one of several temporary apartments I can use for private discussions so I apologize for the lack of facilities."

"You don't live here then?" Varna asked

"No of course not my dear, I'm afraid that nowadays you can't be too careful. Now for a cup of coffee, would you like milk and sugar?"

Varna sighed. "I don't know what you are talking about, so I will leave it to you."

The old man narrowed his eyes as if sizing her up. "Humm ... I think milk and sugar as it is your first time, it's how I like it." He went through to the kitchen, removed a small tank from the back of a machine, filled it with water and then selected a small round container from a box and fitted it into the top of the machine. He put two cups underneath and pressed a button. Hot water ran into the cups. After a minute or so he removed the cups, walked back into the lounge area and handed her a cup of frothy brown liquid. He settled himself in the other chair and took a sip from his cup. He sighed. "Wonderful. Come on my dear take a sip, but be careful, it's hot." He gazed at her intently so Varna raised the cup to her lips and sipped the hot frothy liquid.

"This is delicious." She took another sip. "Why have I never heard of coffee before?"

The old man smiled. "That's because it is human."

Varna almost choked, "human?"

"Yes, wonderful isn't it?"

Varna took another sip. "Actually yes it is, where do you get it from?"

"That my dear is a secret I might tell you one day, but not today. Now, what about this artifact you have found? You must tell me everything, including where you found it."

Varna took another sip of her coffee and settled back in her chair. There was something about the old man she liked and her instinct was to trust him.

"A couple of years ago we came across a ship that had been damaged. At first we thought it had been attacked but we subsequently discovered it had exited a jump right by a stray interstellar chunk of rock. The relative velocities were so great the rock went through the ship's shields and hull like butter, causing a shock wave and explosive decompression killing the crew instantly." Varna hesitated for a moment.

The old man took a sip of his coffee. "Go on."

"Well the strange thing was the crew were human and Grojan. They were wearing the same uniform."

"Was it dark grey with a motif resembling a stylized comet on the shoulder and silver marks like this -" He drew IC in the dust on the table. "- in a square on the collar?"

"Yes, how did you know?"

The old man smiled. "Please continue."

"In the hold of this ship was the artifact. It looks like a large white coffin with an active control console on the side." She placed her coffee on a small table beside her and pulled out her handy com. "Is it all right if I turn it on to show you some pictures?"

"Yes, computer mode only not coms."

She flicked it with her finger and located the photos of the artifact. "This is it." She leant forward and handed him her handy com. "There is something else I have never mentioned to anyone else; it pulls me towards it, on almost a subconscious level." Why did I tell him that?! Ancestors I did not mean to tell him about that! She felt her face flush and she shifted uncomfortably in her chair, then reached for her coffee and took a large gulp.

Luirlan raised an eyebrow. "My dear, please don't look so concerned, I assure you your secret is safe with me." He looked down at her handy com and flicked through the photos. Varna watched his expression as he did so. He paused for a moment on one photo and turned her handy com to orientate the picture better. She noticed his expression change - for a fleeting moment a look of shock crossed his face, if she had blinked she would have missed it. What he could not hide was, his face went white and his hands shook. He took a deep breath and continued flicking through the photos. He then passed the handy com back to her. "Um ... would you like another coffee, my dear?"

She was certain he had offered her another drink to cover his shock at whatever he had seen in her photos. "Yes please." The old man got shakily to his feet and walked into the open plan kitchen. She watched as he took a deep breath and started to make another coffee for them both.

"You know what it is, don't you? And why it has an effect on me?" she asked.

"Yes." He finished making their drinks and walked back to his chair, handed the coffee to her and sat down.

"First let me tell you a story, but before I do I need to know you have an open mind. What do you think of humans?"

"They are vermin, I am a bounty hunter among other things."

Luirlan leant forward in his chair, sighed and pinned her with an unblinking stare. Varna had an uncomfortable feeling he was looking into her soul. "Spare me the propaganda, what do you really think? I can see in your eyes you are hiding something, something that frightens you."

She shifted in her seat and licked her lips. "I ... I am, or was indifferent to humans, I had more contempt for the stupid subservient bitches who succeed in the mating ritual. They are little more than chattels to their bond mates with no power or independence."

"So what has changed Varna?"

She put her cup down on the table and clasped her hands together in her lap. Ancestors! I only want to know what the artifact is. She frowned for a moment then decided to tell him of her strange experience with the human, why she could not fathom, but she had kept it a secret for so long it had been gnawing at her. He seemed harmless and she was sure he would not laugh at her. It was a secret she needed to get off her chest and she would never see the old fool again so what the heck?

She sighed. "It was late in the war and we were circling human space to come up behind them. I was part of an advanced force and we attacked a small human colony. Everything was going to plan until a human cruiser unexpectedly arrived. What should have been no more than a routine extermination turned into a hard fought battle. Unfortunately, many of the humans escaped to the cruiser while their Marines held us off. After they had evacuated the population their Marines withdrew and the cruiser got away as we had nothing there at the time that could take it on.

"I was doing a house to house search in case any had been left behind when I came to a partly destroyed dwelling..." She twisted her hands in her lap. "I'm sorry, but this is difficult for me."

"Take your time, have another sip of coffee."

She closed her eyes for a moment then leant forward and took a sip, then sat back with a sigh. "I thought I heard something as I stepped through the door and I was tensed ready to fight when this human suddenly appeared and snatched my pulse rifle from my hands. He spun me round smashing, me back against a pile of rubble, then knelt on my chest keeping me pinned down." She ran a trembling hand through her hair. "Luirlan, he was massive, and so fast I had no chance against him. I tried to grab his arms but they were like iron, I thought I was going to die. He picked up a brick and smashed it against my helmet, and he knew exactly where and how to hit it to cause molecular cohesion failure.

Varna The Grojan War Book TwoChapter 5 A Derelict Ship

"It's been six hours since we should have heard from Minara, try and contact her again, Catana." After several attempts, the quantum communication system just hissed static with no connection established. Sisanna sat with her boots on the navigation console. "Maybe she has given up and left." "No that's impossible, I don't care whether you like her or not, Sisanna, Minara is nothing if not reliable. She will do exactly what she says she will do and is certainly someone I would want...

Varna The Grojan War Book TwoChapter 21 Escape

Varna slept fitfully, running plans of escape through her mind. For some reason she did not understand she was certain Mark would come for her. But she was no shrinking maiden waiting for her knight to rescue her. She was determined to take matters into her own hands and escape. It niggled at her that they had taken her alive. Of course she didn't object in the slightest, but why? For the bounty all they needed was her ears and her thumb with her personal ID chip. Keeping her alive was a...

Varna The Grojan War Book TwoChapter 9 Halcyon

The Slexi Moon orbited a barren planet deep in the Scorpious Sector. They had been on the run now for three months and had at times come close to being captured. Varna sat at the Navigation console moving randomly through the database. She was alone, attempting to forget the pull the casket in the hold had on her. When she was occupied or asleep she forgot about it, but when she had time on her hands, time to think the emotion bubbled to the surface. She hated it because it was how Sisanna...

The old man rose. "Now, my dear, there are pressing matters I have to attend to and there is nothing more I can tell you about your artifact." Varna stood and followed him to the door. He put his hand on the door catch then hesitated and turned towards her. "Are you certain you do not want to sell it to me, I can pay a great deal of money for it?" She frowned for a moment - it did take up space in the hold and while most of her crew accepted her eccentric attachment to it Sisanna would...

Varna The Grojan War Book TwoChapter 15 A Request

The streets were busy, the city bustling, everything had returned to normal after the King and Queen had come out of hiding. The whole country had thought them dead and Minara had suspected the Halcyons would insist she and Arron took the crown. Once it became known they had survived there was rejoicing throughout the kingdom. The fact that she had hidden the royal family from the Usurpers, as Varna and her crew were being called, made her a heroine as far as the people were concerned. As...

Varna The Grojan War Book TwoChapter 8 Bounty Hunters

"Well it would seem we are officially classed as pirates." Four young women sat round a table in a dark corner of a seedy bar located in a rundown city on a lawless rim planet. Theasa looked round the table at her comrades and captain. "I hacked into the planetary security network and we are on the list, a bounty on our heads." She shook her head. "It's not fair we are lumped together with that murdering bitch Sisanna." A tear trailed down her cheek. "I only just failed the mating...

Varna The Grojan War Book TwoChapter 27 Family Reunion

The ship smelt damp and musty with a hint of oil and stale alien sweat thrown in for good measure. Mark thumped the main console as the nav screen flickered out for the umteenth time. The jump engines were charging, and as the small three berth scout ship drifted in interstellar space it creaked and groaned like an old fashioned wooden sailing ship. Most of their money had been spent on a decent ship for Arron and Minara. They had left the station several days ago to search for their young...

The inner airlock refused to close. Mark had removed it from its track and dismantled it three times now and it was seriously pissing him off. He had used the door from Varna's cabin to repair the blast damaged airlock. He had ripped the closing mechanism from the cabin wall to escape and it was not worth repairing, especially as the ship needed an airlock to go into space. Cabin doors were a low priority. Mark swung a booted foot at the door and hit it hard in frustration. It groaned and...

The evening was cold and Varna stood on the palace battlements watching the market close and the stall holders pack up. She shivered and pulled her cloak round her. She heard footsteps and looked round; Petara was making her way along the walkway towards her. Varna turned back to watch the activity in the square below. Petara stopped next to her and they stood together in silence for a while. "I saw Minara walking around the market this morning," Petara broke the silence. "Yes, I think...

The carriage rattled along the cobbled street, the leather and wood suspension barely isolating Minara from the uneven surface, the early morning light only just illuminating the still deserted city streets. It would be another hour before the traders would be opening their shops and the market holders advertising their wares, each adding to the noise and bustle common in cities everywhere. She yawned, and her mind wondered to the previous night, and she smiled to herself as warmth suffused...

Varna The Grojan War Book TwoChapter 3 A New Ship

On paper the ship looked to be ideal for Varna's purposes - a heavily armed converted freighter that still retained a reasonable size hold. The downside was, being rather old, it needed five crew to run it. A pilot, navigator, engineer and two for weapons control. The navigator, co-pilot and second in command was Sisanna, an older, hard and vicious woman she had befriended after she pushed Minara away and transferred to a different brigade. Varna wanted a reputation as a badass, and the...

Two Intelligence Corp psychology officers strode down the corridor and knocked on the commanding officer's door, one Grojan and one human. "Come in." The base commander, Major James Evans, sounded weary. The doctor sighed, opened the door and stepped into the commander's office. The commander looked up. Yes?" "We have a problem with Captain Fuller, sir." The commander ran his hands through his hair. "Dear God, that's all I need on top of everything else." The human doctor made a...

Four days had passed since arriving at the ICorp base and Mark busied himself checking the ship's systems. He unconsciously raised his left hand and touched the long tip of his left ear. There was no feeling as it had no nerves, but the surgeons had done a perfect job of bonding synthetic tissue to his own ears. He now looked like a Grojan. Footsteps sounded behind him and he turned just as Arron and Minara walked onboard, followed by Theasa carrying Arron Jr. Minara smiled, showing perfect...

Catana leant forward and pointed at the star map floating in the center of the control room. "I was told a few human ships were spotted there." Varna walked around the map and tapped the tips of her fingers to her lips in thought. She looked across at the rest of the crew. "That's the Scorpious Sector, it is vast and deserted, if there are humans there then they would be difficult to find." She turned back to the map. "There's something about that sector." She spoke almost to...

"God, I hate fucking computers!" Mark slammed his fist against a bulkhead. He had been working for several days now attempting to get the ship's core to boot. He had traced several faults to the ship's consoles, particularly the navigation control Arron had damaged during his campaign against the pirates. To his frustration the core refused to co-operate with his efforts, a blank screen just stared back at him like a large holographic sightless eye. The Grojan ship's core was a type he...

"Well, ladies, that proved easier than I thought." The man smiled and glanced at Nora's deecrets. Varna could see out of the corner of her eye the female had sat down next to her. She had known them long enough to realize that the way the deecret was swishing her tail, the end moving from side to side in short flicking movements, that she was not happy. With the baby settled, Minara made her way along the hall to the landing. She stood at the top of the stairs then hesitated. She wondered if Mark Fuller had shown any sign of improvement and regained consciousness. He was due back from inspecting the condition of the army barracks in the city that had suffered during a riot against Varna's...

"Who are they Nora?" "I don't know, Jim, they look human though." Valenora Fuller lay flat on her stomach looking at the group working on a large military style scout ship. Others milled about round the ship, some setting up a camp. From their vantage point on a small wooded ridge overlooking the ship they could spy on the new arrivals without being seen. The sun was just setting as Minara stood on the palace walls watching the last of the market stalls being packed away in the square below. Her back ached and she groaned; she wondered if she had walked too far today. One of the palace guards stepped away from his post. "Are you alright, my lady?" "Yes!" Minara snapped, and the guard flinched at her tone. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap at you." "That's no problem, my lady, would you like a hand down the steps?" "Yes...

Minara the Grojan WarChapter 2 Arron

"Stand up straight!" the drill sergeant yelled into Arron Johnston's face and the sergeant's spittle landed on his cheeks. He stood impassively, as to flinch, or heaven forbid, wipe his face, would probably result in fifty press-ups. Arron hated the sergeant with a passion reserved for raw recruits against their drill sergeant, probably since the time of the Romans. For an eighteen-year-old, such treatment seemed pointless. He had joined up to fight the Grojan, not put up with crap like...

With Minara safely out of the way he could move to the second part of the plan. The Grojan would be gathered in one place tonight so it was time to visit the City Guard and make his presence known. First he changed into his traveling leathers, then he made for a local stream and removed the hair dye he had smothered into his hair. Once it was all removed he walked back to the city. The queue for drinks at the bar melted away as soon as Minara bared her teeth. Filed teeth marked her out as a failure, but she had learnt that generally, people both male and female, regarded her and others like her with fear. For some it was justified, and the woman she had come to meet had a reputation as a ruthless bounty hunter and pirate. Some of the things she was reported to have done were justified, some, Minara suspected, were meant to enhance her fearsome reputation. Minara...

Arron had used the culvert to gain access to the castle grounds for a second night. He was half expecting to have to use one of the other secret entrances but he was amazed nothing had changed. He envisaged the Grojan's would use the royal quarters, and since he had warned them of his intensions he hoped they would stay close together. The next three days dragged as Arron kicked his heals waiting for a reply from the King of Terfain. He left the Guard building for a safe house on the outskirts of the city in the rundown poor quarter as he wanted to avoid being recognized. The fair-haired General of the Halcyon Western Army was as infamous in Matheros as he was famous in Halcyon. He was relying on the fact he was infamous in Terfain as well for his plan to work. With time on his hands he considered what Minara had told him....

Minara made her way to a small Inn in the center of the village and she pushed open the door and walked to the bar. Conversation stopped and everyone turned and looked at her, and she noted there were no female customers. Minara the Grojan WarChapter 7 Abandoned

Eight months later, Arron was ready to start the campaign against the Matherosians holding the southern province of Halcyon. He had spent the time bringing what was more or less an undisciplined rabble into a cohesive disciplined fighting unit. A trusted Captain, and troops from Halcyon, had replaced Arron's trained men at Harcross, so he had a core of trained, battle experienced men to help speed up the process. Jerros had remained his second in command. Morale was high and the men were...

The final section of the path to his hideaway cottage was treacherous. Arron picked his way with care. He had left it like that on purpose, to dissuade visitors. The little fisherman's cottage he had purchased was originally built with only access by boat. To ensure it remained secure, and just in case he needed to open the door when he didn't have a key, he had adapted part of his defunct radio transmitter case. The case had been secured with a thumb print lock. He had stripped the lock...

Minara the Grojan WarChapter 24 Hunted

The journey back proved largely uneventful. The tales of horror and cruelty coming out of Halcyon city had at least abated and things had settled to an uneasy peace. The Grojans, from what he could ascertain, were replacing people from the previous government with lackeys of their own. People with no particular skill, but who had sworn allegiance to them, mostly criminals and dropouts who could feather their own nests by sucking up to the new regime. Of the young King and Queen, other than...

Arron had been walking for just over a week. He had left his advanced weapons, explosives and uniform under a low-level force field in the back of the cave, close to where he had been dropped. The ship shuddered, waking Arron, and he stretched and yawned. The ship was no longer rocking so he pulled on his boots and, bending low so as not to strike his head, he made his way above decks and found the ship had docked and lines were being tied. The First Mate spied him. "Good morning, sir, we have arrived, the winds were favorable and we made fast passage. We should have the gang plank out shortly." Minara the Grojan WarChapter 13 Departure

The morning of departure was problem-free, for which Arron was grateful. He had ensured the additional wagons for the extra supplies needed for the Princess and had sufficient military escort as well as the wagons for her retinue. With extra military protection to the border and the Halcyon Prince meeting them on the Halcyon border, Arron was confident that baring a full-scale military assault the Princess would be delivered safely. There were some last minute changes with the Matheros...

Minara the Grojan WarChapter 15 Allies And More

Arron had started to pick his way over the bodies when he noticed Minara pause. "Wait, Arron, there is one here, still alive." She kicked a body and it moved. "Stop playing dead, animal!" She stood and pulled up her skirts, revealing long shapely legs. She hitched them up to her thighs. Arron stared at the creamy smoothness of her skin, and he sensed the beast within stir. "Minara stop! It won't take much to tip me over the edge again." She smiled, revealing her filed teeth, and drew...

Minara the Grojan WarChapter 20 Further Revelations

At least the food they had been giving her was good, although the facilities left a lot to be desired. Minara had to put her chamber pot by the cell door hatch at first light or it would not be emptied and she had no washing facilities. By the ninth day she really, really, needed a bath. When they had come for her, whoever they were, she had been woken with a sword at her throat. There was no sign of Arron and she noticed his clothes and weapons had gone. She had sat up slowly then swung her...

Minara the Grojan WarChapter 22 Escape

Arron had started counting the days since he had been locked in the dungeon. When the first door was opened he expected to be led away for his execution, but so far all that happened was the hatch lifted and a plate of gruel was pushed through. He ate, then placed the empty plate by the hatch, then an hour later the door would open followed by the hatch and the plate was snatched away. Once he had not placed the plate to be collected and the next day he was not fed so he made sure he always...

Minara the Grojan WarChapter 11 Meeting

Arron fingered his high collar and shifted his feet. He stood with his three senior officers, his dress uniform stiff and uncomfortable. They were first in line waiting for the King and Princess to arrive. He looked at the sea of faces beyond the line of officials and dignitaries facing them, the somber gray and blue dress of the males and the vibrant colors of the females' long dresses. It reminded him of films he had seen as a child of a fourteenth century ball on earth. He had become used...

Minara the Grojan WarChapter 16 Revelation

They ate from the supplies left in the shack to save their own. They were both ravenous after their lovemaking. They hid the bandit's bodies in the trees. Fresh mounts were corralled in a small pen behind the trees out of sight of anyone moving along the road in any direction. Arron noticed Minara wince with pain as she settled sat in the saddle. He allowed her to set the pace and noticed her tendency to press forward had abated somewhat. "I assume that was your marvark I saw dead a few...

Minara the Grojan WarChapter 6 A Hero

The next morning Arron woke early, bathed and dressed in his light leather armor. He walked down to the common room for breakfast and was saluted by the desk sergeant. "Good morning, sir." "Good morning, Jerros." There was a noise outside so Arron walked to the main entrance and opened the doors. He was greeted by a loud cheer. A crowd was quickly gathering; people pushed forward, patted him on the back and shook his hands. He was about to step back through the door when Jerina rushed...

Aella and the Greek War against the Romans

Aella held the bow and arrow in her hand steadily. She knew these forests better than anyone else because of her time fighting the Macedonians, and now she lay in wait in the thick underbrush as the night hid her slim figure in its darkness. “General Aella,” Stavros, her advisor, had said to her earlier in the day. “Everything is ready now. The men have been briefed, and your spies have returned confirming the news you had received last week. There will be an attack tonight, and we will be...

Sperm Wars Cuckolds Threesomes and Evolutionary

Originally posted on Doctor Susan Block's JournalMost men are excited by the idea of their women being with other men. Yes, most. They may or may not actually like it. But many an otherwise sensible gentleman finds himself aroused upon seeing his hot wife, girlfriend or significant other flirt with a stranger, or perhaps a friend. He may be jealous, hurt, angry, even enraged. Still, he often can’t help but want to make love to “his” woman as soon as they get home, his erection stronger than...

The Knight and the Acolyte Book 5 Chapter 1 DwarfQueens Reward

Book 5: The Vault's Treasure Chapter One: Dwarf-Queen's Reward By mypenname3000 Copyright 2016 Note: Thanks to B0b for beta reading this. Minx – The Free City of Rartha I padded through the bustling crowd in the market square, my small cutpurse dagger tucked into my palm. It was a ring dagger. Instead of a hilt there was a circle of metal I slipped my pointer finger through. With a flick, I could spin the blade around my finger, slice a purse open, gather the coins with my other...

Over the Hills and Faraway Book 4 Soldiering OnChapter 14 Spoils of war

Two days after the 'incident', Bravo 6 was deployed to Tizer — well that is as close a pronunciation as we could make of the name of the town. I say 'Bravo 6', but Big Ben and #1 section, accompanied by Danko the Bosnian Serb interpreter, were actually in Split, where the HQ of British forces in Bosnia was situated, as well as the HQ of the UN observers. A full blown UN inquiry had been launched into the 'incident' at the behest of Yugoslavia/ Serbia, and Russia. This was a blatant...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 54 Westward Bound Or is it Eastward

June 15, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “That’s everything, I think,” I said. “My luggage is in the trunk of the car, I have my passport, tickets, and money, both dollars and yen. I can’t think of anything else.” “I’ll see you in five weeks,” Elyse said, giving me a quick hug. “Did you see they rioted in Vancouver last night because they lost the Stanley Cup?” I chuckled, “Only Canadians would riot when they LOSE the Cup! I did see that on the front page of the Trib. Are we ready?” “Michelle and...

Dont Sleep on the Subway Book ThreeChapter 60 Jan 1946 the New Two Germanys and the Cold War

The alleged accident that killed General Patton at the end of World War Two was a terrible awakening to the American people that suddenly they had lost the most outspoken critic of the Soviet Union and the dictator Joseph Stalin taking the place of Hitler and his Nazi goons as the primary threat to continuing peace in Europe. He had plenty of critics for his outstanding views on politics and the world around us but he was one hell of a combat commander and inspired deep loyalty in his...

The 400 Year WarChapter 8 The French and Indian Wars

1760 The Fall of Montreal The heated battles of the French and Indian Wars were primarily fought in the deep forests and isolated outposts of the exposed English settlers. However, the British eventually brought the fight directly into the heart of the French Colonial Homeland in Canada. The initial assaults on Quebec were fought off but it eventually fell to the English forces in 1759 with much loss of life and property. The key to this success was the prior taking of Fort Niagara by the...

Dont Sleep on the Subway Book ThreeChapter 57 Nov 1945 the Nurenberg War Crimes Trial Begins

“As I see it today, Hitler and Goebbels were in fact molded by the mob itself, guided by its yearnings and its daydreams. Of course, Goebbels and Hitler knew how to penetrate through to the instincts of their audiences; but in the deeper sense they derived their whole existence from these audiences. Certainly the masses roared to the beat set by Hitler’s and Goebbels’ baton; yet they were not the true conductors. The mob determined the theme. To compensate for misery, insecurity,...

January 30, 1991, Chicago, Illinois “There goes the luckiest man in Iraq,” General Norman Schwarzkopf said as he played a video of a laser-guided bomb destroying a bridge just after a vehicle had crossed it. “Damn!” Elyse exclaimed. “Those videos are amazing, but it’s making this war too much like a damned video game,” I groused. “The damned country is already too ‘gung ho’ for this war as it is.” “But you want us to win, Snuggle Bear.” “Once it started, my only concern is our men and...

A Paladins WarChapter 4 Treemother

Smythe sat Thunder’s saddle just inside the first real line of oak and elm and pine trees that separated the Sorral Plain from the Emerin Forest. His view to the north, over the rolling grasslands, was unobstructed from here; a dense cluster of old trees atop a small rise from which his eye was thrown for miles over the flat plain. The morning sun sat low in the east, unobstructed but for a low band of thin cloud that it had already almost surmounted on its journey upward. A gentle gust...

The Empire Book 3Chapter 9 The War College Fiasco

The estate was an impressive, imposing, and surprisingly large underground complex that filled a huge cavern, with a dim looking pseudo-sun in the centre. The cavern was so large Jason was sure the whole of Manhattan Island could fit in it with ease. They walked along the stone path that was lined with grey/brown foliage none of which Jason could recognize. The plants looked like a cactus with thick oddly shaped leaves and a conical stem that was about two feet tall. There were trees that...

'The Leader' looked out over the city, and smiled. It had taken many years to ensure that the city fell, and the inhabitants would come to worship him as a saviour to the people, and the plan had worked well. A cough behind him, he turned to face his second in command - Darius. This was a man who knew exactly how far he could go before the leader would stop him, and had many times with just a word. Darius spoke in a mocking tone -"They await outside Leader, a delegation to announce...

Jason and Philippa returned early the next morning to have breakfast with Ouma Chatzke. “Jason I do agree with your hypothesis. I suspect yesterday went some way towards its validation. I would not bother researching it while you are at University, the validation will occur nevertheless,” Ouma Chatzke said. “You know mother, sometimes you are really obscure, and I don’t understand what you are talking about!” Philippa said. “Jason, I assume you do understand me?” Ouma Chatzke asked...

Aunt Katherin and Her SlavesChapter 2 Katherine

Katherine stepped into her elegant living room and took a book from the shelf. She sat in a plush lounge chair, specifically selecting a chair in the back corner of the room next to an old dumbwaiter that was once used to ferry delicious meals from the downstairs kitchen to the dining room table. She planned to read the book for a short while, but she already knew her attention would soon be diverted. Tonight the dumbwaiter would once again be placed into service, except this time it would be...

My Golden Summer with Blythe Ch 01

Our Last Day of School. I can’t believe it. This is my last day of school, I thought, not sure how I felt now that the long awaited day was here. Stepping out into the beautiful sunny afternoon, heading toward the group of waiting yellow school buses I breathed a sigh of relief. I was glad school was finished. Throughout High School like a ship at sea, I had plotted my course, studying hard. However, the Scholarship that many felt I had rightfully won had somehow ended up going to one of...
