August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois

At O’Hare, I parked in the short-term lot as I usually did and walked into the terminal. I checked the arrival board and saw that the flight from Atlanta was listed as on-time. I walked to security, passed through the metal detectors, and then walked to the gate. I sat down to await Stephie and, hopefully, some answers.

The jet pulled onto the ramp and parked, and the engines shut down. The Jetway was extended and shortly after, the first passengers began to file out. About two thirds of the passengers had come into the gate area before I saw Stephie. She saw me and walked over to where I was standing.

“Hi Yankee,” she said, holding out her arms.

“Hi Peaches,” I said, hugging her, “let’s go get your bags.”

Our greeting had seemed forced, and it was telling to me that she hadn’t moved to kiss me. I was confident in my belief that our romantic relationship was over.

We walked quietly to the baggage claim listed for her flight and stood next to the belt to wait for her things.

“How was your flight?” I asked.

“Smooth. How have things been in Chicago?”

“Pretty good. Everyone is here. I haven’t seen Kathy and Kurt, but I know they’re in Evanston. I suspect that we’ll see them at the house on Saturday.”

“Cool.”

Ten minutes of awkward silence between us followed before the belt began to move. Five minutes later, we had Stephie’s bags and walked out to the car. She didn’t have a lot, since she’d left most of her things in Chicago - things that were still in my room, at least for the moment. I suspected they’d be moved before the day was out. About forty minutes later we parked in front of the house and carried her things inside. I didn’t know for sure what to do with them, so I set them down in the foyer.

“Shall we talk?” I asked.

“Yes,” she said.

We went to the kitchen and got a couple of Dr Peppers, then I led her to the ‘Indian’ room. Fortunately, it was empty. I shut the door, turned on the boombox, and tuned to a smooth jazz station. We sat in the basket chairs, and I waited for her to speak.

“Interesting decor in the room. You did this for Anala?”

“And for me. I like it a lot. Everything else I have is sort of Scandinavian modern, I guess. Light-colored wood, lightweight and light-colored fabrics. There’s no Early American or French Provincial stuff in the house. And this room is really, really comfortable.”

“I like this chair,” she said. “I can curl up in it and if I pulled a blanket over it would be super warm. I can see why you bought them.”

“Are we going to discuss furniture and decorating, or us? You seem to be stalling, Peaches.”

She sighed, “I am. It’s because I’m confused, Steve. I didn’t sleep with Jason.”

“That’s the second time you’ve said that, but it’s not the answer to the question you know I have. And whether you did or didn’t doesn’t factor into how I see you, Peaches. You know I’ve been with lots of girls, so it would be really hypocritical of me to object to you making love with someone besides me.”

“You know,” she sighed, “sometimes you can be an insensitive asshole, Yankee.”

“Say what?!” I asked, rocked by what she’d just said.

“Do you think I’d just spread my legs for anyone? That I’m some kind of slut?”

“Where is this coming from? All I said was that I couldn’t object, not that you were actually going to start sleeping around. What I’ve done has really hurt you, hasn’t it?”

“Yes. No. Shit! I don’t know. I told you I was confused. It’s not just about Red, or you, or me. It’s about everything going on in my life, and in your life, and back home with Red. It’s not just you having lots of girls, trust me.”

“Pick someplace to start and let’s talk it out. I have plenty of time. The only thing I think you need to do is get your books, and then we have the race to go to on Sunday, assuming you still want to go.”

“I do. I guess I’ll start with Red and Rose. The best way to describe it is that it’s like you and Bethany and Jennifer, only I didn’t know it until he asked me out.”

I smiled, “He’s been in love with you forever, and Rose figured that out and that’s why she cheated on him. She knew that in the end, he’d want to be with you, even if you were with me.”

“Yep. And she was thinking I was coming back when I get out of school and that Red was just more or less passing time with her until I did.”

“But you didn’t know what you were going to do. In our case, you could look at a bunch of different relationships - Karin, Kara, Bethany - and see how they were all affected by Jennifer. But that was out in the open and everyone was aware. In your case, you didn’t realize he was in love with you, did you?”

“No. He was just my best friend.”

“And do you love him?”

“Hell if I know, Yankee. I can’t figure out if I love him like a friend or like a boyfriend.”

“Anala has an answer for that, if you want to hear it.”

“Sure.”

“The first one is more important. The second one develops over a lifetime. I think she’s right, too. Look at you and me. Did you love me romantically when we first started hanging out together? Or even when we started sleeping in the same bed?”

“I guess not. I was, well, comfortable with you. I started loving you later.”

“Exactly. The same is true for me. I love you, Peaches, but that came later, after we started living together most of the time.”

“You seem to be able to love a lot of people, Yankee. I’m not sure I can do that.”

“Sure you can. You’re thinking romantic love versus friendship-type love. You love me, Red, Emily, Martha, the girls here, and others. What you’re doing is confusing real love with romantic love. Romantic love isn’t the real thing. It comes and goes, and it fades with feelings. Real love, what the Greek’s called «agape», is the love that lets you die for someone if need be. I love Pete, Josh, Kurt, and Dave. Think about that.”

“Yeah, you’re the last person on the planet who I’d think was gay! But you do love them. Maybe I’m thinkin’ all wrong about this.”

“I’m assuming you talked to Jason a lot?”

“Yeah, we hung out together ‘most every day after you left. Just talkin’ and doin’ stuff together. We went to some races at the dirt track, went to the swimmin’ hole, and sat on our porch swing. We didn’t even kiss, though.”

“And why is that?”

“After what Rose did to him he didn’t want to do the same thing to you. You and I hadn’t called it quits, so he said it would be too much like cheating. As for me, I don’t want to be his rebound. I don’t think that’s what it is, but I need to be sure.”

“Do you know what you want to do?” I asked.

“Hell no! Life ain’t that easy! I’d pretty much set my mind on stayin’ in Chicago when I graduate and seein’ if you and I could make things work, but knowin’ the whole situation with Jennifer. I know Elyse is all cool with that, but for me it’s not so easy. I want to be with you, but I don’t know that I can accept your terms. Then toss in the fact that me and Red has been best friends since forever and he’s not like you in that he could be with me, and me only, and I got a real dilemma.”

“How did you leave it with him?” I asked.

“That I’d see him at Thanksgiving and we’d talk about things.”

I chuckled, “That sounds like me and Jennifer. We’ve done a lot of talking.”

“And you didn’t fool around with her when she was here?”

“No.”

“She’s still the main piece of this whole puzzle for you, isn’t she?”

“Yeah. Bethany pushed me pretty hard on that. I think you all are right. I have to work things out with Jennifer before anything else can happen.”

“That was always going to be the case. I talked to Elyse and Kathy about it. You know Kathy went with Kurt because she knew you would end up with Jennifer, right?”

“I got that impression. And like I said, it’s why Kara behaved like she did at the end of my Senior year. And I think it’s why you’re confused now. You would prefer I commit to you and only you, but you know I can’t do that now and maybe not in the future. Your struggle is between some sort of group relationship with me and a monogamous relationship with Red. And you don’t know what to do.”

“Yeah. Can I ask you something?”

“Always!”

“What do YOU want, Steve?”

“I want you to be happy and I don’t want you to compromise your values. Please don’t be upset, but I wonder if you really belong here in Chicago long term. Maybe you should think about going to graduate school at Georgia Tech.”

“That would mean giving up on you,” she sighed.

“Maybe. Jennifer and I have been apart for three years and we haven’t given up. But you should probably give up any notion that we’d be together, just us two. I’m just being honest with you now. If you did that, you could have a couple of years with Jason and figure out if you two belong together. In all honesty, I think you might. I asked you about that two years ago, Peaches.”

“You did. And I didn’t see it. I was hung up on Daryl and excited about being with you. But you didn’t answer my question.”

“Well, I listened to what you said and how you said it, and how our conversations ended, so I bought you a bed and stuff and set up the office as your room. I didn’t move your stuff from my room, though, but I was pretty sure you were going to break up with me, or at least change things between us.”

“But is that what you want?”

“I told you what I want. I want you to be happy. If that means we break up, I’m prepared for that. If it means our relationship changes, I’m prepared for that. If it means I turn the office back into an office, then I’ll store that stuff away for the future. But I do think I know the best course of action.”

“And what’s that?”

“To break the inertia. We were kind of on cruise-control and if we just go back to how it was, we’ll fall right into that same pattern. I don’t think that’s good for either of us. I’m not kicking you out, but I do think you should move into your own room, at least for the time being.”

“By not kicking me out does that mean I can still sleep with you if I wanted to?” she asked.

“If you think that’s the right thing to do, I’m not going to kick you out of my bed, Peaches. I like peach juice!” I grinned. “But in all seriousness, you need to figure out what your situation with Red is. If sleeping with me would make him feel like you cheated on him, or YOU would feel like you were cheating on him, then we can’t do it.”

“We actually talked about that. He told me that when he asked me out, he knew what was goin’ on with us and knew he was throwin’ a real wrench into the works. He told me he kind of figured that if’n I was to go with him, it might take some time and he couldn’t tell me what to do if’n I wasn’t his girl.”

“That’s different from saying it’s OK,” I said.

“Yeah, we know. But he and I ain’t together, Yankee.”

“And neither are we, Peaches. You’re dancing around that simple truth, trying to keep your bases covered and your options open. Trust me, I’ve done it way too much myself. My opinion on this is you should move into your own room until you decide what you want to do.”

“You got someone else to keep you warm?”

“Nobody in particular. If you and I aren’t living together, I’m not going to look for someone else. I need to sort things out with Jennifer. But you know me, I have some options.”

“Some?” she giggled. “That’s an understatement. I bet you weren’t too lonely while I was in Georgia.”

“Jackie and Bethany kept me company, and Anala was here a few times, but she and I haven’t moved beyond a bit of kissing.”

Stephie took a deep breath, “I think you’re right. Let’s put my stuff in the office, but on one condition?”

“What’s that?”

“An arrangement like you had with Elyse, at least until I see Red at Thanksgiving.”

“And you think I would pass that up because?” I asked with a smile.

“I’m still amazed at how well you’re taking this, Steve.”

“You can thank Anala and Bethany for that. And, Stephie? I knew this was going to be the result that first evening with you in Dawsonville. I’ve had a couple of weeks to get used to the idea.”

“You’re a good man, Steve. And thanks.”

“Shall we move your stuff? Or did you want to go to the IIT bookstore? Today would be better to go out because there are deliveries tomorrow.”

“Let’s go out, then we can take a look at my new room and you can help me move and put stuff away. And if we accidentally fell into bed, well, that would be OK, too.”

“Accidentally?” I chuckled.

We walked out to my car and drove down to IIT so she could buy her books, then headed back to Hyde Park. We carried her bags from the foyer into her new room, then went up to my room and gathered her things. It took two trips to bring her clothes and a third trip to bring her things from the bathroom. I helped her get settled in the new room and we did indeed accidentally fall into her bed and make love. We used her shower in the bathroom next door to clean up and then I started on dinner.

While I was cooking, Jennifer called to say that she was at Stanford and was settled into her room. We talked for a few minutes and then I went back to the stove to finish making our meal. Only Jackie and Cindi joined us for dinner, and I wasn’t surprised when the conversation turned to my relationship with Stephie. I let Stephie explain things, which gave me an opportunity to gauge her feelings. When she’d finished, I was pretty sure what was going to happen either at Thanksgiving or Christmas - she was going to tell Red that she’d go with him. I was also sure that if she did that, she’d decide to go to Georgia Tech for graduate school.

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 21 He Will Tell Thee What Thou Shalt Do

July 1982, Milford, Ohio On Tuesday morning, I kissed Kara goodbye and headed to my parents’ house for my usual morning routine with my little sister. She was happy that I could spend the morning with her and asked to take a walk, so we weren’t in the house with my mom. “Let me guess — this walk will end in the clearing,” I said with a smile. “Yes,” she said, taking my hand as we walked down Overlook towards Klondyke. As usual, we turned around and walked back, taking the path to the...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 73 Hypothetical Questions

December 5, 2000, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota “I had a good time last night,” I said. “I was surprised you invited a friend!” Mary laughed as we walked into the exam room, “Naomi had a good time as well. You know what a Resident’s life is like.” I nodded, “No social life.” “Exactly. You guys seemed to hit it off pretty well.” “Yes, but I’m not here for that!” “You’re everywhere for that, and you know it!” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Let’s just say that you hit the sweet spot -...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 28 Summer Vacation Part I

May, 1983, Chicago, Illinois The party had finally ended about 10:00pm, though a few people had left earlier, including Jeremiah. Kurt, Kathy, Dave, and Julia all stayed to help clean up, as did the girls who were staying with us - Katy, Cindi, and Jackie. Elyse and I made several passes through the house to make sure that nothing was left, and Stephie, Julia, and Dave swept the floors and wiped up a few spills. Overall, it wasn’t a lot of work. We folded up the tables and Dave and I...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 20 Winter or Summer

October 12, 1996, Rutherford, Ohio Rutherford, Ohio was a relatively small town; but then again compared to Chicago, Cincinnati was a relatively small town. Rutherford was bigger than Milford, but not by a lot. It had the regional trauma center, the BMV, and the Harding County courthouse and other government buildings, as well as the Sheriff’s Department. I could imagine Milford being like Rutherford if all those facilities had been in Milford, instead of Batavia, which was the Clermont...

A WellLived Life Book 2 JenniferChapter 23 End of the Summer Vacation

August 1978 Things did go back to normal on Monday. Jennifer and I talked, and she seemed to be more like her old self. I wondered just how often she’d need something like this. I suspected she’d want something different before I left for Sweden. I wondered if I would survive. We would need to talk about this, but it seemed we both needed some time to think about what had happened. August moved right along. Jennifer and I went on dates and made love gently every time. I saw Joyce as well —...

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 9 End of Summer Part I

August 1979 — Hovås, Sweden On Monday, Anders and Eva went back to work. They had shifted their vacations from their normal full month of August to three weeks in July and one in August because of the exchange program. They were getting ready to leave when I left to jog and hit the golf course. I had the house to myself because Patrick was with friends, while Suzana and Pernilla were at their cousin’s house for the day. Sofia and Petra arrived just before 1:00pm, wearing T-shirts, shorts,...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 53 End of the Summer Part I

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois Becky was quiet on the drive back to Chicago. My answer to Alyson’s question had been weak. Saying “I can’t” just didn’t really cut it. Alyson had pressed me, but I’d declined to answer further, just saying that it wasn’t going to happen. We’d finished our lunch and then Becky and I dropped Alyson at her house. She’d hugged me and then given me a quick kiss on the lips. The last thing she’d said to me was, “Give it a chance, Steve.” Becky had wisely not said...

A Stepmothers sin Ch 8 Robert returns to college the end of a wonderful summer

And as you would expect, Robert shared my bed with me the rest of the summer. We had fallen into a routine of sorts. Every day, before I came home from work, I would insert my diaphragm, even after the pill was supposed to be adequate protection.I believe we made love virtually every night, often more than once. Even when I was menstruating, Robert still wanted me and had me. Robert found a sturdy, two step plastic blue step-stool that he placed in the shower when I was menstruating, and he...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 11 End of Summer Part III

August 1979 — Hovås, Sweden It was the final week before I’d start school. Monday morning, after my jogging and golf, I went with Patrick to the store to buy notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, and other supplies I’d need for school. I’d brought my TI-30 calculator with me, so I didn’t need to buy one. I also bought a small zippered gym bag to carry my homework back and forth to school. I managed to make all my purchases without speaking a word of English, but it had been fairly simple...

Thelma and Me Summer of 65 part 2

After tea on the Friday evening Thelma stopped me as I was going into upstairs to my room. Her eyes looked wild and her breathing was heavy. “I’m going to a party,” She said in a low voice, “do you want to watch me getting undressed?” I nodded like a puppet. “Wait in my room…I’ll be up in five minutes.” I skipped up the stairs two at a time! I nervously let myself into my sister’s bedroom. I’d been in many times before – borrowing her dirty knickers and stuff to use...

Thelma and me Summer of 65 part 1

Thelma was 22 and like all of the young women at that time was still living at home with me and our parents in rural Kent; even though she had a good job in local Department Store. I was 15 and had just left school. The summer of 1965 was particularly fine so it wasn’t uncommon for me to sit around our secluded garden reading a Detective novel when my parents were at work. The difference today was that Thelma was on the first day of her annual holidays and had joined me wearing a very...

Summer Football Practice

I'm the bad girl who loves the ballers. I love sports, I love hip-hop, and I love the boys that do both. When I got to college last year, the first thing I did was find out how to get student tickets to the football and basketball games. I had to support my team, and if I could meet the boys, even better. Ours is a big school and I never did meet any that first year, but just as final exams were ending, I saw a flyer in the student union that grabbed my attention and didn't let go: the football...

Summering in Femininity Part 12 Summers End Continued

The next morning, a Saturday, Taylor was awoken by a gentle knock on his door. He sat up to see Aunt Agnes waiting by the door. "Is something wrong?" Taylor asked, yawning. "I was about to ask you the same thing, Emily hasn't come by yet and I got worried," Aunt Agnes stepped into the room. "Worried? Why?" Taylor reached for his phone and realized that it was nearly noon. "Wow... She let me sleep in?" "Did you two have a fight?" Aunt Agnes asked. "No," Taylor replied. "I...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 57 Land of the Rising Sun Part III

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

I think you’ll like it.” “Too scary for the boys?” “I think Jesse would be fine, and probably Matthew. She had asked the right question, of course, but her solution just wasn’t for me, not at this point. Even though I had considered it, I certainly wasn’t following it. Summering in Femininity Part 11 Summers End

Over the course of the summer, Taylor's life had changed in numerous ways, but the most noticeable change was in his morning routine. After agreeing to join the cheerleading program, Taylor was then quickly roped into Emily's morning jogs, so that meant being up early and in a tight running outfit. A WellLived Life 2 Book 6 SamanthaChapter 67 Summer of 93 Part III

July 13, 1993, Chicago, Illinois Abbie was in tears when I came back from my run with Gina on Tuesday morning. I knew why even before she spoke. “Jason called. Davey died at 7:00am this morning at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.” “Shit,” I sighed. “This has been a totally fucked up year. And that family has really suffered. Bobby’s serious injuries, Clifford’s death, and now Davey’s.” “Jason said he’s going to quit today. He can’t take it anymore. And he needs to...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 54 Westward Bound Or is it Eastward

June 15, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “That’s everything, I think,” I said. “My luggage is in the trunk of the car, I have my passport, tickets, and money, both dollars and yen. I can’t think of anything else.” “I’ll see you in five weeks,” Elyse said, giving me a quick hug. “Did you see they rioted in Vancouver last night because they lost the Stanley Cup?” I chuckled, “Only Canadians would riot when they LOSE the Cup! I did see that on the front page of the Trib. Are we ready?” “Michelle and...

Summer Job with The Reverend

A friend told be about his hot time, and now here it is for you! The ReverendIt was summer and I had just finished my first year of college. I knew I was gay and had played with some of the guys in my dorm. I loved to suck cock and guys would often compliment me on my ability, telling me that I must have sucked a lot of cock. I hadn’t, it was passion for cock that showed, not experience. I loved to look at cock, play with it and of course feed on it. I needed a summer job and my dad suggested...

Davids Life Book II Just Like Starting OverChapter 9 Hot Town Summer in the City

In the past, David and Meri had spent the summer at the camp, and had loved it. This year was going to be different. They were both going down to NYC, and stay there for the summer. The Wilson's had friends who had a place down in Manhattan that was available, this year. The three parents had talked about it, and agreed that it would be good for them to see something different. Plus, there were the museums, parks, and so much more for them to explore and experience. It didn't hurt that the...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 35 An Interview and Some New Friends

October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

A WellLived Life Book 9 AnalaChapter 45 A Journey Ends

June/July, 1984, Stockholm, Sweden I woke when the conductor announced that we were arriving in Stockholm. I was happy the announcement came early enough for me to be fully awake and clear my mind before the train arrived on the platform. My dream had replayed the last seven years, but in a disjointed fashion. The strongest memories had come first - seeing Birgit for the first time, making love to her, her death, seeing Karin for the first time, my night of passion with Karin, and Karin’s...

A Golfers Dream Book II Chilly Winter Hot SummerChapter 27 Lifes Little Surprises

Roger noticed the stressed look on Dave's face as he entered the room. He asked, "What's wrong?" Dave replied, "Sheri just kissed me; she really kissed me. It was a total surprise. As soon as I could I told her I had a girlfriend and that I wouldn't betray that trust; but Sheri seemed to get really pissed. I swear I didn't do anything to lead her on. I was polite but that's all, I swear." Roger chuckled, "I believe you, Dave. Relax; it's not the end of the world." Dave seemed...

A WellLived Life Book 9 AnalaChapter 59 New Friends

August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The rest of the week proceeded as expected - class on Wednesday, as well as the usual visit from Penny, work on Thursday, and class on Friday. Kara and I had lunch together at IIT, Sofia practiced her driving and parking, and I hung out with Mark Agnini after class for beers. Staci and I got into a couple of interesting debates about the Old Testament that Mark had to break up to allow others in the class to participate. She was very much of the ‘directly...

Davids Life Book II Just Like Starting OverChapter 3 Summer Time

One of the great things about the 1980s was, to many, the music. Blondie's "Call Me", Billy Joel's "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me", Lipps Inc.'s "Funky Town", and many others. You couldn't go to out without hearing something great on the radio. Then again, people who were young in early 1980s had so much going for them. The world was relatively peaceful, though there were those hostages in Iran until they were released after Reagan was sworn in as POTUS. The economy seemed to be...

My Crazy Life 5 Tammy Wendy Brenda First Half

Sometimes, egos are good things. You can ride high on the wave of a growing ego, but you better watch for the breakers at the shore! This is a long story of how I built my ego up, flaunted it around, and then crashed back to reality.=== Tammy:My wife met Michael at an infamous "Sue and Lyle" house party. He is a smaller dark-skinned man with a giant cock. At five-feet-six-inches, he was only a couple inches taller than my wife. His cock may, in fact, be longer than mine, but on his frame, it...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 4 ElyseChapter 64 Pull the Other One

May 26, 1991, Iron Mountain, Michigan “Shall we see if we can find a farm?” I asked at breakfast on Sunday morning. “That sounds like a great idea,” Jessica said. “There’s a visitor’s bureau in town,” Kara said. “I saw it when we were here the first time.” “I’m sorry I ruined that vacation,” Jessica said. “Ruined?” I protested. “Are you kidding? Getting you back was way more important than a few days of vacation!” “I agree,” Kara added. “Jess, you know exactly how bad off Steve was...

A WellLived Life Book 10 The WifeChapter 14 Katherine Victoria Will

January, 1985, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back in Hyde Park about ten minutes before the end of the Super Bowl. It didn’t look like it had been much of a contest, given that the score was 38-16, with San Francisco trouncing Miami. I grabbed a Coke and some chips and sat down on the couch next to Julia and Dave. In the room, besides my housemates, were Jamie, Kenneth, Kurt, Kathy, Jorge, George, Charlie, Bert, and Wen. “Julia, I got approval from both guys in Cincinnati,” I said. She...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 32 Summer Vacation Part V

May, 1983, Milford, Ohio On Sunday after swimming and breakfast, Stephie and I spent some time with my dad before leaving for Don Joseph’s house. We stopped at the Tri-County Mall on the way so I could get Larry a card and a small gift, and arrived about 1:00pm. Joyce was already there and a small nod from her told me that she’d explained things to her grandfather. I put Larry’s card and gift onto the table that was already overflowing, and went into this office to greet him. “Steve!...

Loosening Up Book 9 Fantasies Among the WeedsChapter 2 Phi Theta Rho Party Again

Late on Saturday afternoon Dave shifted into his job as one of the bartenders for the Circle. Just as he was ready for a first customer, Emma came racing up to the bar. She was alone and only wearing a monokini, unlike a few hours earlier when her parents and younger sister had visited and she was dressed conservatively. She extended her body over the bar and kissed Dave. “Thank you for being so nice to my parents and sister.” “Of course. They’re nice people. I take it they don’t know a...

Davids Life Book II Just Like Starting OverChapter 6 Another Summer of Fun 1982

By the end of the year, both David and Meri had earned 4.0+ GPAs and their letters for Cross Country and Basketball. They had attended all the school dances, other than Prom, which was Juniors and Seniors only, unless escorted by someone from one of those two classes. They'd made a good number of friends, who they would spend time with during the weekends of the school year, and they'd become far more involved in school activities than they had in their previous lives. It was a very...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 32 Still Together

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. Mom, Dad, Aunt Kara and I left the house and headed down the sidewalk towards the hospital where Mom and...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 5 Housemates

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 34 Friendship Needs No Words

June, 1983, Göteborg, Sweden The SAS DC-9 from Heathrow rolled out on the runway at Landvetter, bringing me back to Sweden for the second year in a row, and the third time overall. When the plane had taxied to the ramp and parked, the doors were opened and I grabbed my carry-on bag and headed off the plane and into the terminal. I found the baggage claim and after a short wait, collected my bags. I switched my brain into ‘Swedish’ mode and prepared to speak little or no English for several...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 63 Back to Work

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. Your guess is as good as anyone’s right about now.” “Steve, do you have a minute?”...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 51 Friends and Neighbors Part I

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois In the morning Anala and I ran as we had the previous time, then showered together, carefully washing each other’s bodies in an intimate but non-sexual way. After our shower we went to the kitchen and I made breakfast and we sat down to eat. “Steve, may I make a suggestion?” she asked. “Sure.” “Broaden your circle of friends. Other than me, all of you are white, nominally Christian, 20-year-old Americans. And you don’t invite me to your Sunday...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 30 Summer Vacation Part III

May, 1983, Chicago, Illinois After Elyse left, Stephie went to take a bath while I called Karin. We confirmed our plans and told each other that we were looking forward to our time together. When I hung up, I called Sofia to confirm with her the details about the wedding from the formal invitation I’d received from Katt. Sofia knew where the church was and said she’d find a gift for us to give. I promised to contribute whatever she felt was appropriate toward the gift and encouraged her to...

August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois On Monday morning after my usual routine of running, a shower, and breakfast, Kara, Sofia, and I got into my car to head to IIT. I let Sofia drive so that she could get the practice and she was grateful. We arrived a bit earlier than Kara and I needed to so that Sofia had time to make it to her 9:00am class at Loyola. Once she was safely on the El, Kara and I went to the student center to get some coffee. “Will Sofia be OK taking the El?” Kara asked. “She’s...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

July, 1982, Milford, Ohio I woke up early on Friday morning to make breakfast for Kara and her mom before she went to work. Mrs. Blanchard was surprised, but very pleased. After her mom left for work, Kara gave me a fierce kiss. “Thanks for staying in and cooking breakfast for us,” Kara said. “I hope that doesn’t cause you trouble with Stephanie, with you breaking your normal routine.” “Don’t worry about it,” I said, kissing her back. “We got in a bit later than I expected, and she’ll...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

July, 1984, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday morning, Jackie and I ate breakfast together, and then she left to head home. I started a load of laundry and then walked to the shop to pick up my rented tux. As I turned the corner onto Woodlawn, I saw a black sedan parked in front of the house and two men in suits standing on my front porch. I sighed. It had to be the FBI. I continued up the street and up the steps to my porch. “Mr. Adams, do you have a few minutes to talk?” Agent Feldman asked,...

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois After Rosie left, I stripped the sheets from my bed, as well as the cover of the duvet, and tossed everything into the washing machine. I lit a lavender candle in the room, and then swept and dusted. I did a quick spot-check of the rest of the house and noticed that the tub in the sauna needed to be cleaned. I scrubbed it, then mopped the sauna floor with a damp sponge mop. I finished cleaning the sauna about the time the washing machine finished, so I moved...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 7 Reaching the Peak

March 25, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What time do I need to have you home?” “8:00pm will be fine,” Misty replied. “My parents are in Normal visiting my brother at Illinois State. They aren’t supposed to be home before 10:00pm.” Misty and I were in my car on the way to the NIKA apartment which, fortunately, was not being used. With our expansion, it was in more or less regular use, and that meant I didn’t have access to it as often as I would have liked. I was glad there had been a delay in...
