Eleven year old Sally Anderson went back to bed with a funny feeling in her belly. Why did watching mummy and daddy swim make her feel like that? Was it the occasional glimpses of their naked bodies as they swam. She wondered how often they swam this early.
That night when she went to bed Sally set the alarm on her watch to wake her up at seven in the morning. To her disappointment she slept right through the alarm. After about a week Sally was able to get up every morning to watch them and found that they usually went out to the pool at around half six. The first morning that Sally was able to get up early enough to watch them walk out to the pool was a day that Sally would remember for the rest of her life.
Just after half past six her mother and father walked naked out to the pool hand in hand, they paused for a moment by the side of the pool. Slowly leaning towards each other mum and dad kissed each other before turning and diving cleanly into the water. On the nights that Alice stayed Sally was tempted to get up and watch her parents, but she was afraid her friend would find out. To Sally’s young mind it was ok for her to spy on her parents because she was family, to her it didn’t seem right that Alice might look at them as well.
After her parents swim Sally would lie in her bed and explore her developing young body as she tried to understand her feelings about their swimming. She knew that what she felt in her tummy was what girls were supposed to feel about boys, although not their father. What Sally couldn’t understand was why her mum had almost the same affect on her.
This carried on for two years before the now thirteen year old Sally was surprised one summer morning. After their swim her parents didn’t walk back to their room hand in hand, instead her mother stopped her father and kissed him. Sally could see her mother’s hand as it wrapped around his penis. So Sally maintained her silence about her loves, and watched them when she could. She knew the bodies of both of her loves, her father’s from his daily swim with mum, and Alice’s from the showers at school.

She stared at the sheet for some time before she realised that another piece of paper had been folded with it. Opening it Sally found it to be letter, from a man called Graham. He was demanding to see his daughter and threatening legal action if Sally’s mum didn’t provide access to her.
Sally sat there stunned. The man she had called her father wasn’t. It was hard to take in, who was her father then?
Eventually Sally tidied away all the evidence of her search and returned to her room with the certificate and letter.
She sat on her bed and reread the letter time after time. It slowly sank in, Morgan Vech was not her father. She knew she should be upset, she had been lied too, she should want to find out who her father really was.
