June 1981, Milford, Ohio

The four of us decided that we’d head to the Cincinnati Nature Center in Goshen to spend some time walking. It was drizzling off and on, but we all grabbed umbrellas so we could walk outside. We spent a couple of hours walking on the trails and talking. Stephanie had been pretty much down in the dumps when we got in the car, but the fact that the girls seemed to accept her back as a friend cheered her up somewhat.

I wasn’t surprised when Bethany raised the issue of my relationship with Stephanie and said that the physical side should probably end soon. Ultimately, Bethany said, it wasn’t healthy for either of us and the longer it went on, the more likely we would be caught with devastating consequences. She also made the point that it wasn’t good for Stephanie’s relationships in the future.

I kept quiet, though I felt Bethany made a convincing case. I could tell that my little sister didn’t agree, but Kara added her opinion as well, which more or less repeated what Bethany had said. Stephanie didn’t say much of anything, which I felt was good. She seemed to be thinking about what they were saying and the fact that it was coming from these two girls helped.

Melanie and Jennifer had not only been OK with my sexual relationship with my sister, but had actively encouraged it. Both Bethany and Kara, as well as Joyce and Karin, objected but tolerated it, to one degree or another. As much as I enjoyed the physical intimacy, I knew that eventually it had to end, and the girls were making very good points. I also knew my sister wouldn’t give up quite so easily. She and I would have to talk about this without the other girls present.

“Kara,” I said, “given you’ve changed your attitude towards intimacy with me, what are the ground rules?”

“What are you asking? You know darn well what my opinion is. I’d prefer you weren’t with any other girls. But I know you’ll be with Karin, and probably Bethany. Are you asking for permission to fool around? You know I won’t give you permission to just screw anyone you want. I won’t even give you permission to be with Bethany and Karin. I have to accept that. Beyond that? Well, you know my opinion.”

“I do. Let me ask a different way. Am I going to lose you if I fool around with anyone other than Bethany or Karin?”

Kara was quiet for a moment, and just as it appeared she was going to say something, Bethany spoke up.

“Kara, let’s talk alone a bit,” she said quickly, touching her arm.

Kara nodded, and they walked ahead, leaving me with Stephanie.

“Big brother, do you agree with them? That we should stop fooling around?” she asked softly, sounding very concerned.

“I think they have a valid point, Squirt. I did tell you that you should start dating. And at some point, things will come to an end between us. If Kara does what she says, and things go the way I think they will, we’ll have to stop a little over a year from now, no matter what.”

“She told me what she planned. And you would do that, Big Brother? You would make that commitment? You know that if she moves in with you, she’s expecting you to marry her.”

“I know, Squirt. But she’s expected me to marry her since that night we first made love. I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. A lot can change in a year. Or in four years before I graduate.”

“So should we stop?” she asked in a very small voice.

I pulled her to me in a hug, “Yes, we should. You can have the week in Chicago with me, but then it really does have to be over.”

Tears ran down my little sister’s cheeks. I gently wiped them away with my thumbs.

“I have one request, Big Brother,” she said softly.

“What’s that, Squirt?”

“If somehow the opportunity for you and me to be with Jennifer comes about, that we can do that. You, me, and her. I know it’s not likely, but if it does?”

“Yes, Squirt. That’s fine. That would qualify as a very special occasion.”

She smiled. “Good. I have one other request, it’s just that you keep open the possibility that on your birthday and my birthday, we have a celebration fuck,” she giggled.

“OK. A possibility, Squirt. Not a guarantee.”

“You know what this means, right?”

“That you are going to want to screw every second of every day until we come back from Chicago?” I chuckled.

“As much as we can safely get away with. I promise to behave. You’re buying me breakfast tomorrow and then Friday and Saturday I have you as well! Did you want me to cancel with Trish and Shelly?”

“What did Bethany say?”

“She was fine with it, but I don’t think Kara is.”

“Don’t cancel yet, Squirt. Let’s play it by ear. If we change it on Friday, you can call them.”

“That’s true. Thanks Big Brother. You know I’ll miss doing it with you.”

“I do,” I said. “But I have a sense that my loss will be Ed Krajick’s gain!”

“Maybe! But I’ll need advice. I’ve never been with a virgin before!”

“Easy-peasy, Squirt. You suck him off first, then he’ll last long enough. Besides, he’s fourteen. Even if he cums quickly, he’ll be hard again in minutes, especially with that talented tongue of yours!”

“I hate this! But I knew it had to happen. And yeah, Ed is the guy!”

“Don’t scare him away. Take it easy at first.”

“The problem is, neither he nor I can drive.”

“I’ll help you until I leave for college. After that, talk to Tracey. I guarantee she’ll help you. Tell you what. When we come back from Chicago, we can double date with Bethany and you and Ed can use the apartment for a couple of hours.”

“You are so cool, Big Brother. I love you!”

“I love you too, Squirt.”

We waited a bit until the girls walked back to us. I decided to fill them in on the agreement Stephanie and I had come to, but leave out the very unlikely threesome with Jennifer.

“While you two were plotting against me, Stephanie and I agreed that we’re going to end our physical relationship after our trip to Chicago, though she’s reserving the right to ask for a birthday screw each year. I didn’t promise that would happen, though.”

“That’s a good thing,” Bethany said. “I’m glad to hear it. Are you OK with it?”

“I heard your discussion before, and I agree with both of you. And so does Stephanie, though she’s not happy about it.”

Stephanie was leaning against me, with a sad slight frown accenting her displeasure.

“I’m glad, too,” Kara said. “There are too many problems that can come from it. Better to end it cleanly and let it fade into the past.”

“Thanks girls,” I said. “So, did you come up with a master plan for world domination?”

“No, we just talked about you. I thought Kara needed to hear a different perspective on you.”

“Uh oh!” Stephanie said with a grin, perking up.

“No, not at all,” Bethany said. “I just told Kara about how my relationship with Steve has worked and why I let him have some freedom. He’s proved he CAN be exclusive, but for right now, because of the situation with Karin and him being away from both of us for a year, it’s better to give him some freedom. He needs to make these decisions now. Not me. Nor Kara. Not Melanie. Not Jennifer. And not you, Stephanie.

“Steve, the two of us agree that you can have some freedom, but do not go crazy. I think Kara told you that already. You know she’s not thrilled with the situation, but this is where we are. It was going to happen with Jennifer in August and she was prepared for that. You do not need to tell us and we agreed we don’t want to know. If Stephanie agrees, she should be the one you talk to about individual girls. Despite her major error with Karin, we think she has your best interest at heart. It’ll help you two rebuild trust, and that’s good. She just has to tell us if she thinks you’re being stupid.”

“So, my little sister has control over who I screw and who I don’t?” I chuckled.

“No, not quite. But we know she’ll give you good advice, Steve. And this is her chance to prove to us that we can trust her. I say that because I know for a fact that if you do something wrong, you’ll come to both of us and tell us. You always have. It’s just who you are. The Triumvirate is officially dissolved as of today. Kara and I both love you dearly, and we know that in the end, one of us is going to end up with you. We just don’t know which one.”

“Of course we do, Bethany. It will be me!” Kara said with a big smile.

“You are wrong, Kara! It will be me! As I said, WE don’t know!” Bethany said with an equally big smile.

“So, no open warfare?” I chuckled.

“No. But now that Stephanie is out of the picture, maybe the fuck-off is a good way to solve this!” Bethany giggled.

“Hah! You think you would win that, Little Miss Cheerleader?” Kara giggled.

“Easily, Miss ‘Holy Roller’!” Bethany giggled.

“Steve, you might be about to have the best time of your life!” my little sister giggled.

“Nah, they’re teasing. They know better. All three of you know my sexual preferences. Of course, I have an idea, but I doubt Kara would go for it,” I smirked.

“And what would that be, Mr. Smarty Pants?” Kara asked.

“We move to Utah and become fundamentalist Mormons! Then I can marry both of you! Problem solved!”

“No!” all three girls said at once.

“Wow, that was pretty vehement, girls!” I chuckled.

“You are not going to live that fantasy, Steve Adams. One wife. Period!” Kara said, wagging her finger in front of my face.

We all laughed. It was late enough now that we decided to get some dinner. We went to Pizza Inn in Milford and ordered a couple of medium pepperoni pizzas and a pitcher of Coke. We had a great time eating pizza and joking and teasing. I was still amazed at the transformation Kara had made. I swung by Kara’s house to drop her off, then headed back to my house where Bethany’s car was. Stephanie was a bit subdued, but that wasn’t surprising.

On Tuesday, we swam and went to breakfast. I wasn’t surprised when Stephanie asked me to make love to her, slow and sweet, ending in our usual tremendously satisfying orgasms.

“That’s what I’m really going to miss, Big Brother. It shows me how much you love me and I can show you how much I love you. I love the feel of you moving inside me, of the soft kisses and of our bodies touching. I wish this would never end,” she sighed.

“I know, Squirt. There is something so special about this that I don’t think I can replicate it with anyone else.”

“Not true. There is one person, but you’ve taken her off the table. And of course, there was Birgit, but I guess it’s impossible to know from just one time.”

“Jennifer took herself off the table. You know that.”

“I know. Despite what I heard from your girls, I hope against hope that somehow, some way, you and Jennifer can fix this. I know it’s not likely, but I hold out hope. You loved her so much, Big Brother.”

“I still do. But twice now she’s betrayed my trust. That isn’t a recipe for success in a relationship. I did it to Kara, Bethany, Jennifer, and you with Becky. And you’ve done it to me with Karin. Once can be forgiven and trust can be rebuilt. The second time, well, I don’t see how trust can be rebuilt because there’s a pattern. Remember that Squirt. If you and Ed do start dating, you have to be honest with him. And if you find him not being honest with you, then you have to break it off.”

I moved off my sister and pulled her into a cuddle. We lay there for a bit, then got up and showered. We went out to the car and because it was in the upper 70s and the drizzle had stopped and the roads were pretty dry, we took the T-tops off the car and went for a drive. I didn’t say anything to Stephanie, but I wanted to make sure that her hair was dry! I was still shocked by Kara’s revelation and how clueless I’d been. Lucky for me, her mom had been cool about it.

After lunch, I called Larry and headed over to his house to hang out. I told him about Jennifer and he was surprised. I was a bit surprised that she hadn’t called him, but didn’t say so. Larry offered to play chess but given that his Elo was now 2053, and I had barely played, I declined. We settled for video games. Mrs. Higgins invited me to stay for dinner and I accepted. I called and let my dad know that I wouldn’t be home for dinner.

It was good to hang out with Larry — it had been quite some time since I’d done that, and I realized, once again, that I should make more of an effort to do this. It seemed that whenever I resolved to do that, events conspired against us. I did take the opportunity to talk to him about school again, but he was adamant that he was going pre-med like his mom wanted.

I arrived home around 9:00pm and found two phone messages. One from Pam and one from Mary. I called Mary first.

“You calling to set up a time to collect?” I teased.

“You are the meanest person I know, Steve Adams!” she groused. “That’s not why I’m calling. I was thinking of a going-away party for Josh. Do you think you could host it? It would be some of our friends and some of his church friends.”

“Oh, that’ll be a fun party. No dancing, no rock music, no sex!” I teased.

“Let’s see, Kara, Susie, Josh, yeah, sure, no sex!” she giggled. “By the way, Susie is itching for a go at you.”

I chuckled, “Same offer!”

“Oh now THAT would be hilarious. Only if I can watch!” she teased.

“Sure. But if you want to watch, you have to do it first!”

“Arrgggghh!” she groaned. “You are SO frustrating!”

“Yes, I am. Back on topic, sure, I’ll host it. Besides Susie, Kara and Josh, who are we inviting?”

“Tracey, Marty, Bethany, Larry, Kathy, and three other kids from his church, besides Susie. Two guys and a girl.”

“Sounds good. When?”

“June 20th, so a week from this coming Saturday. The kids from his church and I will bring everything. All you need to do is provide the pool and grill!”

“Got it. I assume my sister can join us?”

“Of course!”

“Unless you object, I’ll invite Bethany’s brother, Ed. They get along pretty well.”

“That’s cool. Thanks! I appreciate it.”

“You can still have your marathon if you want it, but if you want to trade for the other fantasy, well, you’re running out of time!”

“Just shut up, Steve Adams!” she giggled. “You’ve been trying to get in there since that time at Melanie’s house.”

“Let me know any other details. Start at 2:00pm OK with you? Then go until 11:00pm?”

“That should work. I’ll need to get Josh home right after that, so is it OK if I leave cleanup to you, Bethany, Larry, Ed, and your sister?”

“Yes. I may have to get Kara home as well, but I’ll ask her dad for special permission for her to stay later because it’s at our house.”

We said goodbye and hung up. I pulled out my address book and dialed Pam’s house in Eau Claire.

“Steve! «Hejsan! Hur mår du?»” (“Hi! How are you?”)

“«Hej Pam, Bara bra, o’ du?»” (“Hi, Pam, Just fine, and you?”)

We continued in Swedish.

“I’m good. Any chance I can see you this Summer?”

“We might be able to arrange it, maybe the second week in July? My friend Bethany is going to UW and wants to scope out Madison. She was there for a campus visit, but it was really quick.”

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 54 Westward Bound Or is it Eastward

June 15, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “That’s everything, I think,” I said. “My luggage is in the trunk of the car, I have my passport, tickets, and money, both dollars and yen. I can’t think of anything else.” “I’ll see you in five weeks,” Elyse said, giving me a quick hug. “Did you see they rioted in Vancouver last night because they lost the Stanley Cup?” I chuckled, “Only Canadians would riot when they LOSE the Cup! I did see that on the front page of the Trib. Are we ready?” “Michelle and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 63 Back to Work

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. Your guess is as good as anyone’s right about now.” “Steve, do you have a minute?”...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 5 Housemates

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 23 So Now You Turn Back Into Diana Prince

January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

July, 1982, Milford, Ohio I woke up early on Friday morning to make breakfast for Kara and her mom before she went to work. Mrs. Blanchard was surprised, but very pleased. After her mom left for work, Kara gave me a fierce kiss. “Thanks for staying in and cooking breakfast for us,” Kara said. “I hope that doesn’t cause you trouble with Stephanie, with you breaking your normal routine.” “Don’t worry about it,” I said, kissing her back. “We got in a bit later than I expected, and she’ll...

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois After Rosie left, I stripped the sheets from my bed, as well as the cover of the duvet, and tossed everything into the washing machine. I lit a lavender candle in the room, and then swept and dusted. I did a quick spot-check of the rest of the house and noticed that the tub in the sauna needed to be cleaned. I scrubbed it, then mopped the sauna floor with a damp sponge mop. I finished cleaning the sauna about the time the washing machine finished, so I moved...

August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The rest of the week proceeded as expected - class on Wednesday, as well as the usual visit from Penny, work on Thursday, and class on Friday. Kara and I had lunch together at IIT, Sofia practiced her driving and parking, and I hung out with Mark Agnini after class for beers. Staci and I got into a couple of interesting debates about the Old Testament that Mark had to break up to allow others in the class to participate. She was very much of the ‘directly...

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. March 25, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What time do I need to have you home?” “8:00pm will be fine,” Misty replied. “My parents are in Normal visiting my brother at Illinois State. June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

May 11, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Monday was turning out to be a LONG day. After my run and talk with Gina, and my talk with Elyse, I had a full day at the office scheduled. September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 6 SamanthaChapter 21 Georg and Maria

September 7, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “That went reasonably well,” Michelle said when her parents drove off. “There were a few times I thought my expression would give away something I shouldn’t. You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. Thank you!” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “So, what’s left?” I asked. “To visit UofC tomorrow and formally withdraw from classes. To spend some time with you and your...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 9 KamiChapter 38 And Sometimes It Stinks To Be Big

January 23, 1996, Chicago, Illinois “Father, bless!” I said, greeting Father Basil with upturned palms. “Bless you, Stephen,” he said as I kissed his hand. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. We placed our food orders right away and he left to put them in with the kitchen. “I’m not quite sure how to address this, so I’m just going to ask you bluntly. Are you the father of Michelle’s baby?” I shook my...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 8 NIKAChapter 68 The Rules

June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 73 Hypothetical Questions

December 5, 2000, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota “I had a good time last night,” I said. “I was surprised you invited a friend!” Mary laughed as we walked into the exam room, “Naomi had a good time as well. You know what a Resident’s life is like.” I nodded, “No social life.” “Exactly. You guys seemed to hit it off pretty well.” “Yes, but I’m not here for that!” “You’re everywhere for that, and you know it!” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Let’s just say that you hit the sweet spot -...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 25 The Puzzle and the Cat Part II

March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt. When she woke, she hopped out of bed and pulled a robe out of her closet and handed it to me. “There’s a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. Go have your shower, then we’ll have breakfast after I have my shower.” I quickly showered and brushed my teeth, and went back to Katt’s room. She went to shower and came back a few minutes later. She dressed, and I got a very good look at her sexy body...

April 5, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “You missed cuddles this morning!” Birgit said accusingly when I walked into the house about 9:30am. “I know, Pumpkin, but I had a work emergency and had to go see Aunt Joyce and Grandpa A.” “And now we have to get ready for karate!” “I know. We’ll have some family time this afternoon. I don’t have any plans.” “Good!” I hugged her and the rest of the kids, then went to find Kara. We hugged and kissed, and went straight upstairs to get ready for...

September 3, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Good morning, Sensei,” I said, bowing to Sensei Jim. “Good morning!” he said waving me to a chair in his office. “How was your trip?” I asked. “Enlightening. I spent most of my time acting as a manservant to Sensei Robert and Sensei Hiro.” “He who will lead, must first serve,” I said. “Someday, I’m going to send you to Sensei Hiro, should he live long enough. You understand.” “Does that mean you are now 6th Dan?” I...

October 29, 2000, Chicago, Illinois Birgit followed me as far as the stairs, then scooted upstairs when I went to the front door and opened it. “Hi!” Sophie said. “Hi!” I replied and held the door open so she could come into the house. I closed the door behind her then led her to my study where I waited until she went in, and then walked in, closing the door behind me. I nodded to one of the wingback chairs, she sat down in one, and I sat down in the other. “Is something wrong?” she...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 61 Anala Part II

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I walked in the near 90°F heat to Carla’s place. I was grateful that the humidity of the morning had dropped significantly; otherwise the heat would have been unbearable. By the time I walked up the steps to the apartment over the photography studio and knocked on her door, I had broken into a light sweat. Carla answered almost immediately and invited me inside her studio apartment. The air was moderately cool, and the window air conditioner was running full...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 21 He Will Tell Thee What Thou Shalt Do

July 1982, Milford, Ohio On Tuesday morning, I kissed Kara goodbye and headed to my parents’ house for my usual morning routine with my little sister. She was happy that I could spend the morning with her and asked to take a walk, so we weren’t in the house with my mom. “Let me guess — this walk will end in the clearing,” I said with a smile. “Yes,” she said, taking my hand as we walked down Overlook towards Klondyke. As usual, we turned around and walked back, taking the path to the...

March 13, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Steve!” Ailea said when she opened the door. “Hi,” I replied, accepting the offered hug. There was no touching of lips, just of cheeks, and I wondered if I’d misread her intentions at her birthday lunch, or if, perhaps, she detected my reluctance to return the offered affection. “Lunch is ready, so go ahead and sit. I’ll bring it in from the kitchen.” I went to the low table, sat down, and a minute later, Ailea brought miso soup and sushi, our usual...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 72 An Explosive Discovery

April 3, 1997, Dallas, Texas “Remember what I said about drinking too much,” I said, as I poured bourbon into three cups. We’d stopped at a liquor store, bought a bottle of Blanton’s, and then returned to the small suite I’d reserved at the Westin. Deborah’s room was down the hall, and Krissy’s was two floors below. Krissy’s comment had caught me a bit off guard, but I hadn’t reacted visibly. I didn’t know her quite well enough to know if she’d been teasing with Deborah, so I was being...

March 28, 1991, Chicago, Illinois “This day belongs to you, Kara!” I said when the three of us woke on Thursday morning. “Happy birthday!” Jessica said. “Thanks,” Kara replied happily. “I think I’d like an amazing birthday fuck from our husband, and then a nice loving shower with my wife!” Kara said. “Do we have enough time?” I asked. Jessica giggled, “I set the alarm for thirty minutes earlier!” “Then let’s not waste any of it!” I said pulling Kara to me. Kara’s squeals as I plunged...

September 1, 1987, Chicago, Illinois “I heard that you have some kind of plan to help Ed,” I said to Connie. “There’s no plan,” she replied. “A witness who saw the shopkeeper alive after Ed left came forward.” That sounded convenient, and I wondered if the witness was real or someone that Anthony had put forward to solve the problem. Certainly, the videotape was real, because I couldn’t imagine how Anthony could have faked that, but the witness? Who knew? “So is he being released? Or is...

August 17, 1997, Chicago, Illinois We finished lunch and Marissa and the younger kids went to play, but Natalie sat with the adults to talk, with coffee, tea, or soft drinks. The Sarcus were very comfortable, but the Heaths were still struggling. But, vitally, they hadn’t left and hadn’t insisted Natalie leave the group. “Can you explain how you developed this attitude and approach?” Chris asked. A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 6 A Tale of Three Cities Part III

July 1979 — Falkenberg, Sweden On Friday, when I got back from my run, Pam was in her bra and panties again. I whistled at her, she giggled, then finished dressing. I showered, and we went to breakfast and finished up our last day. Once class was done, we were pretty much free. On Saturday, we’d have several optional activities and then on Sunday we’d head back to our host families. After dinner on Friday, I took Pam’s hand and we walked towards the river. It was quiet and peaceful, and...

July 1980, Over the North Atlantic We reached cruising altitude, and I settled back to read my book. Pam raised the armrest between us, snuggled close to me and read as well. The cabin crew offered drinks, and I had my first Coke in a year! Meal service began about an hour and a half into the flight. After the cabin crew picked up the trays and offered drinks again, they passed once more, offering headsets for the movie. Trevor and Maria took them, but Pam and I didn’t, instead we turned on...

July 8, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “Is it really that surprising?” Leah asked. “I suppose not,” I replied. “I just didn’t read too much into the kiss on the cheek.” “I didn’t think it was a good idea to kiss you on the lips with all those people around, because I had no idea who they were or what they would think. You were VERY careful with our dance, so I kind of followed your lead.” Which showed very mature thinking on her part. Both of these girls were exactly the kind of students I...

November 8, 1993, Chicago, Illinois A dark fog swirled before my eyes as I tried to take stock. My head hurt, badly. I felt something on my face and realized, dimly, it was an oxygen mask. My right hand was uncomfortable and I recognized the feeling of an IV and pulse-oximeter. My left arm ached fiercely. On my chest I felt the pads and wires of an EKG. I didn’t feel anything else wrong as I continued taking inventory. I tried to open my eyes, but the fog didn’t clear. I tried to speak, but...

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois In the morning Anala and I ran as we had the previous time, then showered together, carefully washing each other’s bodies in an intimate but non-sexual way. After our shower we went to the kitchen and I made breakfast and we sat down to eat. “Steve, may I make a suggestion?” she asked. “Sure.” “Broaden your circle of friends. Other than me, all of you are white, nominally Christian, 20-year-old Americans. And you don’t invite me to your Sunday...

March 1979 Monday was back to the normal routine of school. Debbie Vaughn, who lived just down the street, would turn fourteen on March 16th and invited me to her birthday party. He did, and I sat in the usual chair across from him. “She has a real problem, you know that, right?” he asked. “I do. May 1979 The limo dropped me at home about 9:00pm. I took my stuff to my room, stripped, and hung up the tux. The rest of the things went into the hamper. I took a shower, put on shorts and a t-shirt, and walked down the hall into my dad’s office. I saw no reason to put this off any longer. “Stephen, you need to explain yourself!” my mom demanded. “I was in Mrs. McGrath’s, well, Mrs. Sanders’ now, wedding, as I said.” “You walked her down the aisle! February, 1983, Chicago, Illinois Our first joining since the previous summer was slow and sweet, trying to express our deep love for each other through the motions of our bodies. When we finished, Karin held me tight and refused to let me move off of her. “Sleep there, please,” she whispered. July 3, 1996, Chicago, Illinois I blinked several times and took a breath before responding. It didn’t help. July 1983, Milford, Ohio My drive to Ohio was filled with wild swings of emotion. After quickly driving Anala home I had set out for Milford, driving as fast as I thought I could get away with, slowing only when warned to do so by my radar detector. I’d told Nancy that I’d come straight to her house and asked her to call my dad and let him know so that Stephanie wasn’t worried. June 1980, On the Train, and in Abisko, Sweden As the train sped across the Swedish countryside towards Stockholm, I reflected on the fact that there were less than three weeks to go until I had to be in Copenhagen to board a flight home. I was torn between wanting to go home and wanting to stay, but in the end, I didn’t have a choice. I really liked my life here, the freedom I was given, the friends I had and, the respect I had from adults. I hadn’t run into a single adult who had treated...
