“Morning, Betty, are you feeling any better this morning?”
“Yeah, knowing that you really care about me as a person helps a lot. The way my parents and friends treated me is going to bother me for some time to come. I’ll get over it, but it will take time.”
“That’s good ... at least, the getting better part is. Rita, Cindy, and Carol should be back tonight, unless they comm and extend their visit for another day.
“I think we should plan on getting back to Vora tomorrow or at the latest the day after that. Sereine and I need to make sure we are ready for our meeting. Once that’s done, I think we should go back to Earth. I want to present my credentials, so I can proceed with everything else that I need to do.”
“Alright, Master, did you have any plans for today?”
“No, I haven’t made any yet. Since you know more about Slave World than I do, I was planning on asking you what might be interesting for us to do.”
“Well, we are very close to a very good water park, and to one of the best zoos on Slave World. The water park is always great fun, and the zoo has both local and imported animals. Would you be interested in having fun on the water slides, visiting the zoo, or something else?”
“Let’s talk about it over breakfast.”
We made breakfast a leisurely event this morning. We didn’t have to be anywhere, so we ordered the specialty of the house, which took a bit longer to prepare than a standard breakfast.
“Both things would be fun, and I don’t have a strong desire for one over the other. Which would you prefer to do, Betty?”
Betty smiled, “The zoo sounds like fun. I haven’t been to a zoo in years.”
The transit tube got us to the zoo in Billby by ten-thirty, and we started through the exhibits. I had seen pictures at the D-Hopping University of some of the animals we saw at the zoo for they were discussed in my class on recognition of dangerous animals. I had been taught a bit about those animals. I don’t recall my parents ever taking us to a zoo, so this was the first time I actually saw most of the animals.
Several times, I felt a sense of familiarity as we walked through the exhibits. It reminded me of the feeling of someone examining my mind that I had when I met Coral at Sereine’s apartment.
“Excuse me, Betty. I want to check on something at that Visitor’s Kiosk.”
Betty waited for me while I went to the kiosk. When I found a terminal, I entered ‘Bushbie,’ to see if the zoo had a Bushbie exhibit. It didn’t, so I must have been imagining the sensation. However, as we walked around, the sensation kept coming back. It always returned when we were in the northeast quadrant of the zoo.
The next time we passed through that area, the sensation returned very strongly. I looked around for a zoo employee.
“Excuse me, Miss. This may seem odd, but an acquaintance of mine has a pet Bushbie that I was recently introduced to, and I keep getting a sensation similar to the one I experienced when she introduced us. Are there any Bushbies here at the zoo?”
“The zoo doesn’t have a Bushbie Exhibit, but we are temporarily housing a Bushbie until a home can be found for it. Unfortunately, the Bushbie seems to be very depressed and lonely. Our head keeper is concerned that it is morning its dead owner and may die before a new home can be found. Did it feel like the Bushbie was trying to communicate with you?”
“I’m not sure what communicating with a Bushbie feels like. It sort of felt like someone going through my mind.”
“Can you stay here for a few minutes? I’m going to comm the head keeper, so he can talk with you.”
Five minutes later, a middle-aged man came rushing toward us. “Are you the one our Bushbie is linking with?”
“I suppose so, but it doesn’t feel like a link to me.”
“No, it wouldn’t at this stage, but this is the first time that I know of that he has reached out to someone. Bushbies have many personality traits that are close to those of humans. Right now, he is depressed and he needs a friend to help him get past the grief of losing his owner.
“If you have the time, could you spend a few minutes near his pen? I think it will be helpful for him. I certainly don’t want him dying on us, and it seems as if his health is declining.”
“Yeah, I can spend a bit of time with him, if you think it will help cheer him up.”
We were led into one of the “Employee Only’ areas and our guide, who said to call him Tom, took us into a small building. As we walked, Tom told us about the Bushbie’s history and that they were having difficulty placing him in a suitable setting. We must have been close to the Bushbie for the sense of someone in my head was very strong.
Tom opened a door to one of the rooms in the building so we could see the Bushbie through the bars of a cell door. Tom said, “Don’t get too close to the bars in the cell door for Sto here can reach through them if he wants to, and he might hurt you.”
Turning to the Bushbie, Tom said, “Sto, this is Mister Doug Smith. Doug, this is Sto. I have a few things to do, so I will leave the two of you to get acquainted.”
Tom had told me to treat Sto as I would another person. I felt foolish but I started talking with him, “Hello, Sto. Tom tells me that you are not feeling very good and need a friend. It’s sad about you not having a place to live due to your friend’s death. I think everyone should have a place that’s their own, a place where they belong. Tom tells me that he is trying to find you a place like that where you can go live.”
As I was talking, Sto was looking at me intently. When I stopped talking, he walked over to the barred door. Rearing up he placed his front feet on the cross bars and pressed his head to the bars. I had done the head bump ritual with Sereine’s Bushbie, so I knew what was required. I approached the bars and pressed my head against the bars also. We stood like that for a couple of moments, and then pulled back slightly. Sto stared into my eyes and I could sense thoughts forming in my mind. As a thought formed, my mind seemed to convert it into words.
Note: To differentiate between telepathic and vocal conversation, the telepathic communication will be presented using italics.
“I like you, human. I sense you from far away. You good man. You care for Sto. Sto miss old friend. Sto want new friend. Friend like you. Sto sad. No one share with Sto. Sto want have fun. No one care for Sto.”
I felt foolish talking aloud to Sto with Betty standing there, but I said, “I understand, Sto. I know what it means to be alone. No friend nearby to share with and care about. Tom is doing his best to find you a friend or at least a place for you to live. You can make friends there.”
“Not understand. Not talk to all human. Few human hear Sto. Many human not hear Sto. Most not hear Sto. I like Tom. I hear Tom. Tom not hear Sto.”
I was feeling sorry for Sto. I thought of Sereine and Coral. I was thinking that maybe she would be interested in having a second Bushbie to keep Coral company.
“No human. Share not good. Friend and Bushbie bonded. One Bushbie bond, one human. Never two Bushbie. Bushbie not share human.”
It was evident that Sto could read my thoughts. I had never had a pet as a child and wondered what it would be like to have this Bushbie as a companion. How would he be around my women if Bushbies didn’t share their friends? Would he want me as a companion? How would a bond with him affect my life? These and many more questions passed through my mind unbidden.
“Human not understand. Mates different. Not part of bond. You be good bond partner. I think on bond. Mate want go. Mate not hear me. Mate tired waiting. Go with Mate. Come, tomorrow. Bring friend and Bushbie. Sto want meet them. Sto think on bond.”
As we were leaving, we met Tom. “Tom, Sto and I had a good conversation. He wants me to return tomorrow and bring a friend with me. We talked about him coming to live with me, but no decision was made. If he wants to go with me and I agree, how would that be arranged?”
While talking with Sto, I had realized that Sergei was right. Bushbies are sentient beings. A sentient being should not be locked away like an animal. Sto deserved the right to pick a friend that he liked. If the friend also liked Sto, then they should be together for as long as they wanted to remain friends. If Sto wanted to be my friend and live with me, then I would be happy to have him as my friend.
If I understood his comment about thinking about a bond, then he was considering me as his future bond partner. Being his friend was one thing, but did I want to bond with Sto? Doing so would be a major decision. As Sergei said, a bond with Sto would affect my life, but being bonded with a Bushbie also had certain benefits.
“Did Sto actually communicate with you?”
“Yes he did. We talked; well talk is not the right term. Let’s say that he thought things to me and I talked to him. I got the impression that he and I might become friends. If Sto were to want to be with me what would be involved in my adopting him?”
“I thought that the two of you might hit it off,” Tom said. “The deceased owner left some instructions in his will about the adoption of Sto. It’s my understanding that Sto has a series of code words that identify someone as being a suitable owner for Sto. If Sto wants you as his owner, I can contact the lawyers. The lawyers will pass thoughts to Sto. Sto will give you the code word for each thought, and if the code words match the thoughts, the lawyers give you the paperwork that identifies Sto as your property.”
“That seems odd to me. Sto’s old owner must have really cared for Sto to go to those lengths to ensure that he was with someone who truly cared for him.”
“I know. The lawyer who placed Sto in our care was very particular with us about not releasing Sto into someone’s care without their permission. Exotic pets like Sto don’t normally get the attention that Sto is receiving. They are usually given to us for us to find a new owner. When we do, we just release them into the new owner’s care. These stipulations have made it harder to place Sto with someone.”
“Okay, Tom. Sto asked me to bring a couple of friends with me tomorrow to visit with him. I will see you tomorrow.”
“Sure thing, when you get here, tell the ticket counter agent to call me. I will come get you into the zoo, and escort you to Sto’s pen.”
The rest of the day at the zoo was interesting. Betty oohed and aahed at most of the exhibits. I liked the exhibits also, but at the back of my mind, I could feel Sto. He was sharing our pleasure, and it made him happy. I think that head bump thing allowed Sto to create a link with me, for I could feel him in my mind after we left the zoo.
We returned to the hotel in time for dinner, and Carol, Rita, and Cindy were waiting for us. Carol met us first, and said, “Well, I’m glad to have visited. I may go back again to visit with my friends, but as far as I am concerned, my family is dead and gone.”
“I’m sorry that things didn’t work out for you, Carol.”
“That’s okay, Doug. Things never were very good between us once I was old enough to go out and earn money for them. That was all I was ever good for according to them, and they always felt that I should have been able to do that better than I did.”
Turning to Rita and Cindy, I asked, “How did things go for the two of you?”
Cindy answered before Rita had a chance with, “Great. I really had fun with my friends. They will be graduating from school next year, and they already have good jobs promised to them at some local companies.”
Rita added, “I didn’t get home very often, since I worked so far away. So it was fun to visit with my friends. They are getting on fine with their husbands and boyfriends. My best friend is pregnant and due to have a child in six months. She showed me all the baby clothes and things that she and her husband have already bought for the baby. We went shopping and I bought her a couple of cute baby outfits.”
Sto was still in the back of my mind, and he was enjoying my reunion with my ladies. It seemed to give him great pleasure, as if he were already a part of our family. We were about thirty five miles from the zoo. I started to wonder about the maximum distance this link was good for. Would a permanent link be good for a greater distance, and if so, how far?
“Okay, ladies,” I said, “this has been an interesting visit and an eventful day. Let’s discuss it over dinner.”
My four ladies were discussing their visits with friends and families. I was just sitting there enjoying it all, when Sto broke into my thoughts.
“Friends good. Make you happy. Better to have mates. Mates love you. Give you children.”
I decided to try communicating with Sto without talking, so I thought back, “Yes, Sto. Friends and mates are good. I have many friends, much family, and many mates. All are good to me, and for me.”
“Sto agree.”
Rita asked, “Are you okay Doug? You seem very distant and occupied.”
“I’m fine, Rita. There is no problem. It’s just that I had an interesting meeting today. I don’t recall mentioning it to you, but Sereine introduced me to her pet Bushbie the other day. Do any of you know anything about Bushbies?”
With the exception of Betty, everyone was shaking their heads no. Betty said, “That animal we visited today was a Bushbie, wasn’t it? It looked very dangerous to me.”
“Yes, Betty that was a Bushbie. I’ve learned a lot about Bushbies over the last few days. Sereine and Sergei Magnusson told me a lot about Bushbies. According to Sergei, Bushbies are very intelligent and can be very dangerous. However, they are also very good friends and companions if they accept you as part of their family.
“The Bushbie we saw today lost its owner recently. The head keeper at the zoo said that its owner died in a hover car crash, and it has become very despondent and depressed. He thinks the Bushbie is depressed enough that it might die. He asked me to spend some time with the Bushbie to help cheer it up.”
“Tom wrong. Bushbies get sad. Very sad. Bushbie know it pass. Sad long time. Bond partner die. Very sad, very long. Not die.”
“I decided that I would try to help the Bushbie. His name is Sto. Bushbies are empathic and communicate by means of thoughts, not words. He told me that most humans are mind deaf to his thoughts, but he could hear theirs.
“We are considering the establishment of a bond. I suppose you could define it as a commitment to lifelong friendship and companionship. It may be more than that, but as of now, that’s what I understand of bonding.”
“Yes, human. Bonding more than friendship. Can’t explain. Must experience.”
“What I need to know is how you will feel about my having a Bushbie with you living in its vicinity. From what I have been told, once you are introduced to Sto, Sto will not be a problem for you. In fact, he will become a friend and protector if you allow it.”
Carol said, “Master, the three of us are your slaves. What you want will always be our wish. We would never deny you what you want. If you wish to have something from us or for us to do something for you, all you need to do is ask or tell us. If you want the Bushbie in our home, then that’s what you will get.”
Rita and Betty were nodding their head in agreement. “Yes,” I said, “that’s true. However, I want to know if you will be comfortable being around a Bushbie. Betty, you saw Sto. What was your impression?”
“Well, as I said earlier, Sto seemed as if he could be dangerous. Other than that, he seemed very gentle and well behaved. When you walked up to those bars, I thought he would attack you. He didn’t do that, instead he seemed to give you some type of greeting. If he is as nice to be around as my pet gremdial, then I won’t have any problem being around him.”
Note: A gremdial is a small animal that’s similar to a dog. It’s an herbivore and its demeanor is very placid. It’s not aggressive toward people or other animals.
Rita and Cindy said they knew nothing about Bushbies, so they would have to wait to see what Sto was like, before they could form an opinion.
I twixted Sereine after dinner. I explained the situation with Sto, and told her that Sto would like to meet her and Coral. I let her know that she and Coral were invited to join us for breakfast here at nine tomorrow morning, which was eighteen-thirty Multiverse Standard Time (MST). Four hours later, I received a Twixt telling me that Sereine and Coral would be here for breakfast.
Author’s Note: Each planet in the Multiverse maintains its own local time, date, and calendar, but they also maintain what’s called Multiverse Standard Time (MST). When comparing any two planets, the MST is a constant between all times and allows the people of various planets to easily translate their time to that of another planet. For local time, the seconds per minute, minutes per hour, and hours per day are set according to the length of each planet’s solar day (i.e. one revolution of the planet). The number of days the planet takes to make one revolution of its sun defines the length of its solar year. The number of days in a week, weeks in a month, and months in a year is defined by the local populace. On some planets, the week (or month) time unit is not used.
Since the length of a day, week, month, and year are different on different planets, their time references are out-of-sync with those of other planets. For example: for one planet, two days may be a period of seventy-two hours, while on a different planet, the first planet’s seventy-two hours may be a duration of three days.
Due to these variations, it’s necessary to link each planet’s time and date to a single time reference in order to coordinate events between planets. The Multiverse’s capital city of Timson is in the Lockwar Universe on the planet Shilling. It was selected to be the reference for Multiverse Standard Time.
When trying to coordinate events between two or more planets, the event’s time is expressed using the MST time and the local time on the planet that’s hosting the event. A time translation program is used to compute the MST time to another planet’s local time and date. Sereine would have to convert the eighteen-thirty to the local Vora time in order to know when to make her hop, so she would arrive on Slave World in time for breakfast at nine in the morning.
Rita and Carol came to bed with me that night. They wanted reassurance that Sto would not be a threat to them. Once they were reassured, they took very good care of my physical needs, and I took good care of them also. They then snuggled up to me and went to sleep.
I could still feel the link with Sto. It had been a little unsettling to make love to my women with Sto monitoring my activities.
“Sto will a permanent link be like this? You’re always in the back of my mind, listening in on my activities.”“Sto like listen. Fun game. Sto learn new human. Permanent link different. Link allows private time. What do to mates?”
“My women and I had sex. Didn’t your partner have sex with his women?”
“No. Partner not have mates. Say mate no good. Say mate play bad game. Partner happy with Sto. Partner no want other friend.”
“I’m glad to hear that I can have some private time. Do you need private time?”
“All need private time.”
“Good night, Sto. I will sleep soon. Serene and Coral will come in the morning. We will see you after the zoo opens.”
Now I was starting to express myself in short broken sentences like those my mind generated from Sto’s thoughts. I had not noticed it before but a series of thoughts are needed to express a complex idea.
“Sleep good, human. Tell Mates Sto housebroken. Not dirty animal. Sto no hurt friends. Sto no hurt Mates.”
That was an odd thing to say. Was Sto capable of picking up my ladies thoughts via our link, or perhaps that’s what I feared my ladies would think. I thought about the day and all that was happening to me until I fell asleep. We all slept in a bit that morning, but were dressed and ready to go down to breakfast when Sereine and Coral arrived.
Rita answered the door when Sereine knocked. She quickly backed away startled by the sight of Coral sitting at Sereine’s side. Coral’s head was just a little below Sereine’s shoulder, so I wasn’t surprised by Rita’s reaction.
“Come on in, Sereine,” I said. “Introduce Coral to everyone, and then we can go eat.”
By the time Sereine had introduced Coral to each person, everyone was a bit more at ease with Coral. It took us a while before we could go eat for everyone had questions about Coral. Cindy, who had been the most reserved, even asked if she could pet Coral. Sereine showed her where Coral liked to be scratched. In no time, Coral was purring. I think Cindy had a friend for life.
I found it odd that the link between Sto and me was no longer present. On the way downstairs, I asked, “Sereine, Sto created a link with me yesterday, but it’s gone this morning. Is that normal or is there something wrong?”
“Nothing is wrong, Doug. The link was probably a temporary link. He needs to be very close to you to create the link, and then he can talk with you over long distances using the link. When he went to sleep, the link was broken. He can’t reestablish it until you and he are close to each other again.”
“A permanent link like the one between Coral and me is different. We are always linked, but we can each sort of turn the volume down or off without breaking the link. There is also what you might call an override for instances when our volume is turned down and we absolutely need to talk. I find the connection soothing, so I don’t bother turning the volume down unless I need privacy.”
While we were waiting to be seated in the restaurant, Sereine informed me that she had taken delivery of the new shelters, transported them to First Stop, and stored our equipment in one of the shelters. Breakfast was the usual chaos. Coral’s presence made it slightly greater. Our waitress was intimidated by Coral’s size, but Sereine introduced her to Coral and Coral rubbed her head on the waitress’s thigh. I don’t know why, but the waitress found that comforting. Sereine later told me that Bushbies could sense what’s necessary to put someone at ease, and will do so, so people are comfortable with their presence.
“Sereine, is it easy for you to understand Coral? I found it difficult at times to understand what Sto was trying to say.”
“Yes, I can understand Coral clearly. I’m not certain about a temporary link, Doug. I’ve been told that communication over a temporary link is very stilted. It has something to do with your mind. Coral was an infant and we had only been together for a few minutes when Coral decided to adopt me, and she created our permanent link. We never had a temporary link, so I don’t know how it’s different.
“I’ve been told that a Bushbie does something when creating a link that makes it easier for their partner to understand the mental images they insert in their partner’s mind.”
While thinking about that, I asked, “What type of food do you feed Coral?”
“Coral will eat almost anything, if I let her. I usually give her a large bowl of dry cat food twice a day, and twice a week, I give her about a pound of raw meat with her cat food. She is also a terrible mooch and frequently begs to be fed off my plate. There doesn’t appear to be any foods that bother her, but she does have her favorites and a few dislikes.”
Coral had eaten her breakfast before they left Vora, so she sat beside Sereine’s chair throughout our meal. I saw Rita check with Sereine and then slip Coral food off her plate.
Several of our fellow diners commented on how lovely Coral was and asked where they could buy a pet like her. Sereine handled their request very well. She told them Coral was an exotic animal, and not sold on the open market. That satisfied all but one woman. She decided that if she couldn’t buy a Bushbie in a store, then she wanted to buy Coral. She was so insistent that Sereine had to show the woman her police ID and threaten her with arrest if she kept harassing her. Finally, the woman left. After breakfast, Sereine, Coral, and I hopped to the zoo, and everyone else went shopping.
At the zoo’s ticket counter, I asked the girl to contact Tom and let him know that we were there. Tom arrived in about ten minutes to escort us to Sto’s pen.
Sereine was walking Coral on a leash, and I found the reaction of people to Coral amusing. Judging from Tom’s expression, he was amused also. The visitors who knew nothing about Bushbies would walk right up to Sereine and ask her questions about Coral. The people who worked for the zoo and had been briefed on Sto, stayed as far away as they could get.
I could feel Sto trying to reestablish our link. He could sense my presence and probably knew that Serene and Coral were with me. Once we entered the building that housed his pen, I was close enough for him to reestablish the link. Saying that he was overjoyed at our presence is an understatement. Sto wanted to get out and play, but when I asked, Tom told us that he was not allowed to open the barred gate. I told him that I understood. He said he would return in about thirty minutes, and left us alone with Sto.
“Sto happy. Sto very happy. You bring Sto new friends. Sto want play new friends.”
Speaking aloud, I said, “I’m glad you are happy, Sto. Sereine, this is Sto. Sto, this is Sereine. Sereine and I are friends, Sto. We work together.”
I wasn’t sure about the protocol for introducing two Bushbies. Sereine smiled at me when I looked at her, and then she said, “Coral, this is Doug’s friend, Sto.”
Sereine looked at me and made a go-ahead motion, so I said, “Sto, this is Sereine’s friend, Coral.”
The two Bushbies approached the pen’s bars and bumped heads. They stepped back and sat down. For the next ten minutes, they just sat there looking at each other. Sereine and I talked about their conversation. She could hear what Coral was saying and hearing, but I was getting nothing from Sto.
“Sereine is this behavior normal for two Bushbies that have just met?”
“I don’t know, Doug. I never introduced Coral to another Bushbie before. However, I suspect it’s typical. I don’t want to disturb them right now. I need to talk with Coral to be sure, but they seem to be establishing the grounds for a friendship.”
Finally, I heard Sto say, “Girl Bushbie nice. Sto like new friend. Sto like new friend’s friend. Sto want play with new friends.”
Sereine tapped me on the shoulder and motioned me to the side. The two Bushbies went back to talking with each other.
“Doug, Coral tells me that Sto is very nice and she would like to have him as a friend. She also told me that Sto likes you, and all of your friends. He is very lonely and wants a friend to bond with to form a new family. Coral told me that he wants to bond with you, but he is not sure you want to bond with a Bushbie that allowed a companion to die.”
“I don’t understand, Sereine. He didn’t do anything wrong, so why would I not want to bond with him?”
“I know that, Doug. Coral told me that according to Sto, it’s part of Bushbie social structure to ostracize a Bushbie that allows a friend to die. Since he did nothing to protect his friend, he feels that he let his friend die. I think you need to talk with him and let him know that there was nothing he could have done for his friend. Even if he had been with his friend, there was nothing he could have done to prevent the accident or his friend’s death.”
“I decided last night to bond with Sto, if you and Coral agreed that a bond would be a good thing. It sounds as if Coral thinks it’s a good idea. What do you think?”
“Bonding with a Bushbie is a major decision, Doug. It’s sort of like getting married. It will change many things in your life. Most of the changes will be good, but there will be a few changes that will cause you problems. I personally think that you and Sto will be good for each other. My impression is that Coral agrees with me.”
“I guess you and Coral will be there to help Sto and me to establish our relationship. I don’t know the first thing about the care and feeding of Bushbies other than what you said this morning.”
I looked over at Sto, got his attention, and said, “Sto we need to make a decision. My friends and I need to leave and go back to my home planet. I would like to form a bond with you and take you with me. What do you want to do?”
“Sto like human. Sto want human be partner. Sto not understand. Sto let old partner die. Why human want Sto as partner?”
“Your partner died in an accident Sto. You didn’t let him die. If you were with him, you could not have stopped the accident. Your friend would have died with you there. You could have died also. I’m glad you are here and want to be my partner. You did not let your partner die.”
“Sto want you as partner. Sto want bond with you. Do you want bond with Sto?”
After a leisurely breakfast the next morning, Betty, Misty, and their helpers set up an area to work on the translation. While they were busy doing that, Cindy, Kendrick, I, and our bodyguards left to go to the Guild Office. We only had a short trip to get to our destination, and when we arrived, we went directly to the reception area of Guild Master Kevin Moore’s office. My bodyguards insisted on checking the area before I entered, which alerted Ann Tinny, Kevin’s secretary, to my arrival....
I was expecting Bill to arrive early the next morning, so I left the door ajar. When I heard a knock on my hotel room door, I called out, “Come on in, Bill.” Bill walked into my room with an attractive woman by his side, and she seemed a little uneasy. Bill said, “Doug, this is my wife Susan. Sue, this is Doug.” Sue offered her hand to me and said, “It’s nice to meet you, Doug. Yesterday, Matt and Bill told me about you and since you are going house hunting today, Matt thought that a...
After leaving Guild Master Moore’s office and returning to the hotel, Matt and I learned that our ladies weren’t back yet. We left them a note, so they would know we had gone to the hotel’s swimming pool and the note suggested that they join us. The pool was nice. The only problem was the large number of kids made it difficult to swim laps. Matt and I decided to just relax and enjoy the water. We also participated in that male bonding activity commonly known as girl watching, until our...
During our ride to the Archer Conglomerate Headquarters, I noticed that Sandy turned her comm unit off. It had chimed three times, so turning it off seemed to be a wise move. I didn’t comment on it as it was evident she didn’t want to speak with her mother. Our driver dropped us off at the front entry and he went to park the limousine in the visitor parking area. The line at the front desk was short, and our driver had rejoined us by the time it was our turn to obtain help from the...
I knocked on the doorframe of Abby’s office. She looked up and motioned me in. As I pulled one of her visitor’s chairs to the front of her desk, I thought we needed to get something more comfortable to sit in. Then I recalled the staff meeting where Sue suggested plain metal chairs for visitors. They were okay for short visits, but sitting in one for too long was uncomfortable. Sue said that she found the uncomfortable chairs got rid of visitors quickly, so she could get back to her work. We...

After breakfast the next morning, we said our goodbyes to Sereine, Coral, and Sto. Sereine would deliver her report to Carl on Vora and check on the availability of police officers, who could staff the checkpoint on Earth. Then she would be taking Coral to Toomby for a prenatal checkup; Sto was going to support Coral. Sereine expected to return in a week, but she told us to not hold our breaths. It’s nice to see I am not the only one who is learning and using Earth slang. However, it must...
The estate was not equipped to handle the number of people in my party. So, once we arrived, Edgar made a call to a local hotel that was owned by the Archer Conglomerate. He finalized his prior room arrangements for my bodyguards and their family members. He also arranged for D-Hoppers to take a number of my people to their home planets, so they could visit with their friends and other family members. He made the arrangements to get them to Vora for the wedding at the same time. While Edgar...
During the remainder of the week, and the weekend, I dealt with the various matters that my staff brought to my attention. I skim read the procedure for determining a currency exchange rate. Most of it addressed financial considerations that were not familiar to me, and I was definitely not qualified to address those considerations. I would have to turn it over to Kendrick and my financial support group. Once I finished that familiarization process, I decided to begin writing the document...
After breakfast the next day, I rode the transit tube to Cinnity to meet with Sereine instead of hopping. I needed time to get my thoughts in order prior to my meeting with Sergei. I also needed to give the meeting with my future security team some consideration. Most people objected to the minor sensation of bouncing and swaying that was induced into the tube by its high-speed passage through minor air turbulence. Personally, I enjoyed it and found it to be relaxing. So sitting on the tube...
The family meeting was scheduled to start at ten. So the next morning, we all had a late breakfast and I hopped us back to my parents’ home. When we arrived, everyone was there except for one of my uncles. He wasn’t responding to Dad’s comms, so we weren’t sure if he was coming. Mom was chairing the meeting and she said we should start without him. Mom started the meeting by defining its purpose. She then had Dad present the status of the new company that the family had formed to do business...
“This obstacle called the Gentic Belt”. Benni explained to Zax, “It encircles the planet, like a very long belt, and can only be safely crossed through the Emerald Cross, on an equipped vessel. Imagined it as the sole punch hole on this large belt”. The girl was very patient and the closeness she maintained to Zax signaled the development of a certain interest. “The buckle is where we’re heading, the Earthly Crater, there- Eh, look! The eruption is finally over”. She pointed at the wall of...
Day 1: When Doug finally woke up at the ranch, the morning started out with breakfast. Bashira, who had a long day yesterday, slept through breakfast. After thanking Betty for a wonderful breakfast, Doug called Secretary of State Charles Boyd. “Good morning, Doug. I let the President’s Chief of Staff Aaron McCaul know about what happened yesterday, and he said he would inform the President. Aaron and I decided you would be busy so we should wait until you contacted us to see if you needed...
I am now the Multiverse’s Ambassador to Earth. It is my responsibility and mission to ensure Earth joins the Multiverse with a minimum of difficulties. Now, all I have to do is figure out how to accomplish that mission! I like the people of Earth, and do not want them harmed by the Multiverse taking over their planet. I doubt the Multiverse Government would force itself on Earth, but, I suspect the Guilds will push to open trade with Earth at too fast of a pace, and I will need to resist...
The next morning Abby, Sereine, Mac, and I were ready to leave. Unfortunately, Cindy was sick. My ladies told me that she would be fine in a couple of days, so I should go ahead without her. I hopped us to Wayside and we got our traveling equipment, then Sereine hopped us to our next stop. As usual, the trip was uneventful. Abby was excited at first, but then her excitement turned to boredom. We did have one dismal event on the way to First Stop. I had hopped us to our next stop, and when...
I had Twixted ahead to reserve a room at the Timson Luxury Hotel, as we usually did when I visited Maribel in Timson before leaving the estate. Maribel currently had a moderately light schedule; well, light relative to how busy she seemed to be during my previous visits to Timson. A light schedule was good for we had a number of things that needed to be discussed, and there were a few items that were important to me. Most of this visit would be dedicated to our discussing specific topics, but...
Matt and I were up early the next morning for we knew Yarl and his crew were eager to complete the installation and get back to Vora. I think they were worried that their food would somehow become contaminated by sugar and turn them into sugar addicts. Things didn’t work that way, but many fears are often totally unreasonable. We needed more drivers than I thought, so Matt, Mary, Bill, Sue, and I went into Greely and picked up the rental equipment that Matt had reserved. With Carla and Ken’s...
We had just arrived, and I felt my link with Sto reestablish itself. All I heard was, “Doug back. Go talk.” The idea of Sto having to be face-to-face with me in order for us to talk over our mental link seemed funny to me. “Hello, Sto. How was Toomby?” “Shots hurt. No go Vet. Sto no need shots.” “Shots? Was there something wrong?” “Vet say need. Sto good. No need shots.” By then Sereine and the rest of my people made it out of the house and had walked over to greet us. “Hello, Sereine....
Cindy was right about us needing a bank. My idea of, me becoming a middleman for my people making deposits to and withdrawals from their Multiverse banks was a stopgap measure that would suffice, but only for a short time. The more I thought about things, it was very evident that the Banking Guild would not establish a bank on Earth in the near future, and we needed one now. By the time I got to my office portable, I had formed a rough plan to handle this issue. My first step would be to...
It had been a long and tiring trip back to Earth. The seasons were changing on our layover planets, so we had rain, snow, and temperature extremes to contend with on the different planets. We all agreed that we didn’t care for sitting on a planet in a hundred and two degree heat, and then hopping to our next layover and arriving in the middle of a blizzard and minus twelve-degree cold; the wind chill factor made it worse. I really needed to get a travel shelter. Harry had told me the...
Before my wives and I left on our honeymoon, Sandy and I had hired two lawyers, Grant Baker and Kenny Natron, to help us start our new business. They set up an appointment with us for today to discuss their progress and to ask us questions. It was ten minutes to two in the afternoon when Cindy called to let me know our two lawyers had arrived and they and Sandy were waiting for me in our conference room. We were starting to get really busy, so I definitely needed to find someone to be my...
Sereine and I getting stuck in a quarantine shelter for almost a week didn’t really affect my overall schedule. I didn’t have much to do before I had to leave for Shilling, so there was a lot of available time in my schedule. The only impact the delay caused me, was my having to reschedule a few minor things that I wanted to do before I left for Vora. Overall, I would be able to finish all of my outstanding tasks before my departure date. One of the good things that happened while I sat in...
While returning to Earth, I had a great deal of time to think about my past activities on Earth, and the changes that my new position would require in regard to my relations with the people of Earth. I had been telling lies of omission to many people since my arrival on Earth. I don’t like lying, but most of Earth’s people were not ready to learn the truth about my being an alien from outer space or about some aspects of my being a D-Hopper. When a D-Hopper opens a planet, they can choose...
By the time Sereine and I got to Wayside, we were both tired. We had let our egos control our actions, by hopping eight shipping containers to Wayside. Their combined mass and volume was more than the utility equipment we had hopped to Earth some months before, and we had been pushing our limits to hop that much equipment. We decided to leave the shipping containers on Wayside, and hop them to the ranch, later. As soon as we had stored our travel equipment and rested, we hopped home. Since...
Turning back to Kim I could see that she had endured all the culture shock that she could handle at this time. “Kim, I think we should set this subject aside, for now. Once you have had a chance to think about it, we can talk about it again if you wish. “I’m curious about whom you work for, and what prompted you to become a reporter. Would you care to talk about that instead?” “Yeah, I would. I think I got in over my head, and you are right. From what your friends have said, I do need to...
A strong pungent odor burned Zax's respiratory system through his nostrils and rose to his brain, the body organ which contained the soul. Zax woke up from the smell, but when his eyes opened what he saw was foreign. All he could see as he stared above was the ground as the ceiling and a dim light illuminating from somewhere. The last imagery that Zax could remember was the earth he was lying on splitting and a black shadow, like a long and thick whip, moving quickly out of the cracks,...
The trip to First Stop was the usual boring event. When we had arrived on Wayside, it occurred to me, this was the first trip I had made to the Multiverse with no trade goods. On our way to First Stop, Sereine and I briefed everyone on our plans for what each of our two groups would be doing during this trip. We had been talking during the trip, while we rested. During our discussions, it occurred to me that in the future, we might need two penal planets in Earth’s Universe. For the interim...
The first thing in the morning, Edgar called Kendrick to let him know I was back. Me ... I was lying between two lovely pregnant women, and I had no plans for getting out of bed until it was absolutely necessary. As usual, my bladder told me it was necessary and I reluctantly got out of bed. When I made it out into the dining room for coffee, Edgar let me know Kendrick had commed, and he had returned the comm to let him know I was out of bed. Kendrick showed up an hour later, and at the...
Matt, Bill, Sue, and I were waiting for Aaron when we heard a knock at the door. Rita answered the door. “Good afternoon, I’m Aaron McCaul. Is Doug Smith available?” “Yes, please come in.” Rita’s English was getting better, especially the standard phrases we use in our interpersonal communications. Aaron and a woman in her mid-thirties came into the room. “Doug, this is Miss Abby White. Abby, this is Mister Doug Smith. “It’s nice to meet you, Mister Smith.” “And it’s my pleasure to meet...
I timed our departure from Timson so we would arrive at Mister Tam’s home on Halpern late in the morning. I did so for I knew we had to be at the Tam home before mid-afternoon to confirm our hotel reservations and we didn’t want to arrive too early. We arrived in the portion of his backyard that he had previously designated as our arrival area. It didn’t take the Tam family long to usher all of us into their home. Our party was too large for them to accommodate us in their six-bedroom house,...
“Those are the main points that Maribel and I discussed, Kevin, and here are your copies of my replies to the questions that her committee sent you over the past year or so,” I said. “Maribel said that for the next year or two, she will have future questions routed to you, and will expect me to reply through you. That will change once I have a Twixt System in place. Maribel and I did this first set of responses to her questions this way, so we could work out any problems between the two of...
For Alma Walcott it was all in a day’s job as a freelance stringer. She started her day on the phone by calling her normal news sources, but it was an unusually unproductive day for news. Then she called her contact in the Sheriff’s office. To ensure confidentiality, she never used her real name when dealing with someone she had registered with her paper as a confidential informant. She was always Sheila and her informant was either Bob or Babs. Her contacts were aware of this duplicity, but...
From Vora it was only one hop to First Stop. Since we were now based on Slave World, we needed to consider a different planet as our point of arrival and departure. It didn’t make much sense to make three hops to and from Slave World when that would be our first stop. A planet along the route we used to travel between Slave World and Vora would be a better First Stop planet, as it was not commonly used as a rest stop by other D-Hoppers. I would discuss that with Sereine during our return to...
Arriving at the Archer home, Doug rang the doorbell. “Good morning, I’m Doug Smith. This is my Administrative Assistant Cindy Smith, and my lawyer, Kendrick Jones. We have an appointment with Mrs. Archer. Is she available?” “Yes, sir. Mrs. Archer is expecting you. Please come in and I will show you to the sitting room, and let Mrs. Archer know you are here.” The sitting room was a nicely furnished and pleasant place to meet with someone. I decided that I would like to have a small meeting...
Kendrick and I were talking and he said, “The Judge outsmarted the media. The case number and parties associated with the case, have to be posted for at least one hour prior to a hearing. Normally, the case number and all of the main parties are listed in the posting. He listed the case number and your name followed by the phrase ‘and others’, which satisfied the requirement of the law. The media expected the Archer family’s name to be listed. Since it wasn’t, the majority of the media missed...
“Are you ready to go, Doug?” “Go where, Bill?” “To put in another order for vehicles. You were going to put me on your calendar for a vehicle shopping trip.” “Sorry, Bill, I forgot to tell Cindy. I can’t think of anyone I was to meet with today. Let me check my calendar ah, yes, I have the rest of today clear; except for my regular tasks, which I can put off until later. I was talking with Matt about this, so will we need him and when did you want to go?” “Matt told me that as far as...
I was awakened at two in the morning by the siren alert of my comm unit. Someone had sent me a Twixt, and had flagged it as urgent. By the time I got to my comm unit, my eyes were open far enough for me to read the message. The message read, ‘Urgent you and Abby return to my office at once, Kevin Moore.’ I went down the hall and knocked on Abby’s bedroom door. When she said to come in, I opened the door, and said, “You need to get up and dress. We need to leave for Vora as soon as we can. I...
I needed to talk with Matt, Bill, and Sue about presenting my credentials and a few other things. “Matt? Doug, here.” “Hi, Doug, what’s up?” “I’ve finished the immediate things that I had to do. Do you have time to go over the arrangements for my presenting my credentials?” “Yes, when do you want to do it?” “I’m still at the ranch. We should be back at my home, shortly. Let’s meet there in two hours.” “See you then, Doug. Bye.” “Hello, Sue, Doug. Matt is going to be at my place in two...
The media had gotten word that my entourage was staying at the Trinity Hotel in Cinnity. They had staked out the hotel’s ground-level entrance and the landing pad on the roof. The only way my people could come and go undetected was for Sereine to hop them in and out of the hotel. Since her ability to hop was limited by her recovery time, it was very inconvenient for all of my people. My bodyguards decided that the media representatives needed to be taught a lesson; namely, do not harass the...
My wives said I needed a new wardrobe for the office. Rita was the most insistent, and she had arranged for an appointment with a tailor at a men’s specialty store that Charlie had recommended. Charlie always looked good in the office while he had been with HS, so I accepted his suggestion. Rita knew exactly what I needed as office casual and my other wives agreed, but Charlie had said that whatever I got as off-the-shelf clothing had to be tailored to fit me properly. Cindy had some work to...
During breakfast the next morning, I talked with Betty about her translation efforts. She said she needed an office in which to work. I suggested she get with Misty and set something up in the Hospital portable. Then the conversation took a turn that I wasn’t expecting. Rita said, “Carol and I have been talking to Betty and Cindy about your trip to visit with Harry at his office at the Archer Conglomerate. “Betty and Cindy think you are interested in the receptionist at the front desk and...
Within a sealed cavern, encompassed by blackness, sitting crossed legs, Zax prepared himself to tackle the fifth bottleneck of insight. Smell, touch, taste, sight ... These were the four bottlenecks of insight Zax already perceived and proceeded to comprehend. Zax was not oblivious. By now he could tell that the bottlenecks of insight have something to do with the five senses. The issue was with him unable to figure out if the remaining sense, sense of hearing, which will probably make him...
Our status meeting went well. Matt was making progress on getting a building permit for our temporary facilities and William was finalizing the supporting drawings. I let Matt know that we would have to install the utility equipment at what would be their permanent location, since Chairman Smart had bought me the equipment I would use for the Embassy Compound. I let him know I would get the equipment’s technical details for him when I had a chance and we would get with William to give him...
The Reyes and Rivera families remained at the clinic for the remainder of the day and well into the evening. Misty would periodically check her patients with her analyzer. By early evening, it was apparent that their condition was improving. After Misty informed the families, they returned home except for the mothers, who stayed with their sons for the night. They didn’t want a bed in which to sleep, so we provided them with a couple of our comfortable office chairs. They talked until the...
I arrived a little early for my appointment with Sergei, and was immediately ushered into his office. “Yarl Wilson, who is my installation foreman, Tim, and I, were reviewing the pictures that Tim Hart took at your ranch. Tim told us that you plan to set up a temporary Embassy Compound on your ranch, and live in it for a year or two. Is that right?” “Yes, but we hope it will only be a little over a year from the time we move in, until we can move into the Embassy.” “Yarl mentioned that you...
It took a bit longer than I had planned before we were ready to depart. Sereine hopped us to our first intermediary stop just as the sun was rising above the horizon. Three hops later, we arrived in the backyard of Mister Tam’s home. They had started to worry about whether we would get there for the wedding. Mister Tam said they had expected us to arrive three days ago so there would be plenty of time to make any final arrangements that may be necessary, and the wedding was scheduled for...
The four security people traveling with us were new to me. I had just a few minutes to introduce myself before we left Slave World, and I was having trouble recalling their names. Edgar said they were four of the better people that he’d had assigned to him by Kendrick. I would make a point of getting to know them better as I rested between hops. Our first stop on Vora was at my parent’s home. I had timed our departure so we would arrive early enough to have lunch with my Mom and Dad before...
Kendrick wanted to know when I would hold my media conference. The media was in a frenzy to find me. They wanted to know everything about me. My task during the interview was to limit my answers to my public life. He also wanted to set a date for me to meet my Board of Directors. He had contacted the Chairman of the Board and explained how I had inherited the conglomerate. The Chairman wanted at least a week to finalize their presentation. Kendrick and I settled on dates and times for my...
My wives woke me early the next morning. They enjoyed playing in bed yesterday morning, and were thinking of another romp in our bed. We had just started our usual sex play, when Carol made a mad dash for the bathroom. We could hear the sound of her retching, so Rita went to check on her. When Rita returned, she said, “It’s time for Carol to be checked out by Misty. I think she’s pregnant.” “Pregnant!” I exclaimed. “Didn’t she just finish her ovulation period? I didn’t think morning...
Alpha males vs earth sissies revolution part 1 "Pink or blue?" "Or should i say light pink or powder blue, we cant make you think blue is a boys color, it can be feminine also... or a sissy yellow... hmm." the deep alpha manly voice asked his soon to be sissy prisoners as he and the other alpha men laughed. the captured "men" were asked. "It doesn't matter soon to be sissies," the tall, huge super alpha man said grinning as the captured men of earth struggled. "You'll look...
Alpha Males Vs Earth sissies; part 2 A few weeks later.... "Stacy... are you ready to come out and show your new feminine self to me your new master?" The strong alpha male called from outside her girly room. Jack/Stacy stared at slender self in the mirror still not quite believing what had come of herself.. The servants had taken their time get "her" ready... slowly stripping away the earth masculinity and showing the inner girlishness all earth men naturally have, but has...
Alpha Males with earth girl sissys part 4 final. John tried to get away, but it was hopeless, as she looked down at his new feminized body, the restive pink skirts did nothing to help with getting away as he tried to escape. The nightly ritual of letting the now conquered earth sissies try to escape from their manly super alpha males, now their strong boyfriends/husbands. They never got that far, with their girly clothes always giving them away, the light pink yellow pastel colors...
Matt and his wife Mary were to join my ladies and me for dinner at my home. We had to discuss the trading hop and to make plans for outfitting Matt and Mary for the trip to Vora. Mary turned out to be a moderately attractive redhead in her mid-forties, with the lithe muscular tone of an athlete. Betty had been in her element all day for she had been busy preparing our meal. My ladies tolerance to sugar had increased, so I had cleared them for eating a wider variety of foods. Betty was making...
Rita met me at the door with, “Doug, Aaron called you and he asked you to call him back.” Bill and Sue were still at the house, so I asked everyone to stick around until I finished the call. Once the pleasantries were out of the way, Aaron said, “Doug, I wanted to discuss the President’s event with you. “I had my assistant reserve three, two-bedroom suites for you at the Embassy Suites, and each bedroom has two queen-sized beds. I don’t know what the sleeping arrangements are for your...
As I said, we arrived at Wayside two hours later than I had expected. During one of our rest stops, Mac and Martha’s son Timmy wandered around the clearing. He was tired, so he stretched out on a comfy looking bed of leaves and fell asleep. Unfortunately, the leaves were on the far side of a boulder. So, when Dan prepared to hop us to our next stop, no one noticed him behind the boulder. Mac and Martha each thought the other was holding his hand. Martha knew Timmy wasn’t holding her hand,...
The first thing I did was to call William on his direct line at HRD. “HRD Architects, William Chambers speaking.” “Hello, William. Doug Smith here. I was able to complete my business on the East Coast sooner than expected. I would like to arrange an appointment with you for tomorrow morning.” “No problem, Doug, would nine be alright?” “That will be good. I will be bringing Matt Crane and his wife Mary with me. “Matt will be setting up mobile homes, portable buildings, and utility...
Days 4 & 5: It was Day 4 and Sereine was to make her presentation to our attackers and the lawyers they had retained. Yesterday, Sto, Coral, and the kits had moved back to their home with Sereine. The kits were doing fine. Aunts Sereine, Misty, Betty, Carol, Rita, and Cindy were taking turns making sure they had everything they needed. Sereine started her presentation with a detailed description of the laws pertaining to the commission of an act of violence against another party and the...
“Hello, Bashira, it’s Doug. How are things going with you and Amir?” “Good, Doug. Are you and your wives starting to settle in as married people?” “Well, not yet Bashira. The honeymoon trip has ended and we just got home yesterday, but our honeymoon is continuing. If I’m lucky it will continue for some time to come. I’ll have to wait to see if married life is different from just living with my ladies. What is Amir doing?” “He is busy with a number of issues, Doug. Canceling your visit was...
